The Ministry of Education, Sport and Culture in Zimbabwe has the mission to provide high quality education, sport, and culture programs. It is comprised of divisions for early childhood education, primary education, secondary education, and adult education. The ministry's functions include developing education policies, overseeing curriculum implementation with an emphasis on STEM subjects, coordinating teacher training programs, and promoting student welfare. It partners with international organizations like the EU, UNICEF, and SACMEQ on education projects focused on reform, gender issues, and quality monitoring.

Non Formal Education and to facilitate access to and
participation in sport, in sport, recreation and culture in order
to enrich the lives of all the people of Zimbabwe.
The Division is formed of the following sections:

4. Functions and Responsibilities of the Division.
1. Initiating the formulation, implementation and reviewing of
policies relating to the school system.
2. Facilitating the development of quality assurance tools,
e.g. circulars, evaluation instruments and performance
indicators.
3. Setting and monitoring performance standards for Early
Childhood Education Care, Primary and Secondary school
systems.
4. Organizing and conducting staff development programs and
providing specialized expertise in all relevant ministry training
programs which are within the Division's realm.
5. Overseeing curriculum implementation with special
emphasis being placed on the delivery of a relevant
curriculum promoting and strengthening mathematics,
science and technology, technical and vocational education
and student attachment programs.
5. 6. Promoting and managing Guest Teacher Programmes to
Denmark, Ireland,Japan,Sweden, U.S.A. etc.
7. Developing and promoting the Science Education, In-Service
Teacher Training programme (SEITT) and other initiatives such
as popularisation of science.
8. Developing and promoting the effective use of teaching and
learning materials.
9. Co-ordination at national level , the Better Schools
10. Program (BSPZ) and all initiatives pertaining to the
improvement of education delivery.
11. Resources e.g. funds, scholarships, social safety
nets, textbooks, other learning materials, assistive devices
and media for learners with disabilities and ensuring their
equitable distribution.
12. Promoting student discipline and their general welfare.

This is an European Union funded project with an overall objective to
contribute to a more efficient, equitable and sustainable education
development. (since January, 2001)

3. SOUTHERN AFRICAN CONSORTIUM FOR MONITORING EDUCATION
QUALITY (SACMEQ) II
Is a research project that is jointly undertaken by 15 African countries on
monitoring of education quality and learning conditions in primary schools.
(it began in 2001)
4. COMMERCIAL FARM AREAS CONSTRUCTION PROGRAMME
Totally funded by SIDA and targets commercial farm schools.
5. COMMERCIAL FARM AREAS CHILDREN SCHOLARSHIP
6. UNICEF GENDER PROJECT
It’s totally funded by UNICEF. The main objective of the program is to
sensitize top officials in the Ministry on gender issues.
