2. ๏ Self rescuer is essentially gas mask in a simplified
form without the corrugated hose tubing.
๏ Its weight is low, nearly 1 kg.
๏ The chemical are manganese dioxide & copper oxide,
is used as a catalyst which changes CO to CO2.
๏ CO is a poisonous gas & also colorless & odourless.
๏ Basically it is used in degree 3 mines
๏ It canโt use for breathing operation.
4. Use of self rescuer
๏ Self-rescuers are for use in environments such as
coal mines where there is a risk of fire or explosion,
and in a location where no external rescue may be
available for some time
๏ The main hazard here is from large quantities of
carbon monoxide or white damp, often produced by
an explosion of firedamp.
๏ A miner should don the rescuer immediately on
seeing
5. 1-clouds of smoke
2-smell of combustion gases
3-unexpected dust
๏ Self rescuers are stored on the surface in the lamp
room or in a self rescuer room adjacent to the lamp
room .
๏ Worker are pick up the lamp & self rescuer at the
same time when going down the mines.
6.
7. ๏ In IW-65,calcium bromide & lithium chloride(53%
CaBr2 & 5% LiCl) are used for drying agent in
charcoal.
๏ The Co catalyst is hopcalite used for conversion of co
to co2.
๏ This conversion generate heat in reaction.
๏ The filter section has an outer coarse dust filter & an
inner fine dust filter to remove dust particles.
๏ The self rescuer can be used for one hour after its
seal is broken in atomsphere of 1% CO.
