• His mini machine Can manufacture sanitary pads for less than a
third of the cost of commercial pads

nations
• Invention came at great personal cost - he nearly lost his family,
his money and his place in society
• No interest in making lot of money.
• In 2014, TIME placed him in its list of "100 Most Influential
People in the World" - Pioneers.
4. LIFE
• He grew up in poverty
• He lost his father in car accident and his
mother was worker in farm
• He was good student but he dropped
out of school at the age of 14
• 1998-got married
• He discovered his wife uses filthy rags
in menstrual cycle
5. • Costly sanitary napkins available in market is the reason behind
this unhygienic practice
• He decided to develop low cost product
• Initially he used cotton but that product was rejected by his wife
and sister
• He bought commercial product and realized raw materials used
in that product hardly cost 10 paisa that time.

last he tried on himself
• For his experiments he was ostracized
by community
• Even his wife and mother decided to
leave him
• But he didn’t lose hope
• Now he is well known for social

• The semi-automatic machine deploys
4 stages for finished products:
• Main Raw Materials used in this
machine are : wood-fiber, thermo
bonded non-woven, polyethylene,
release paper & super bonded paste.

• First Stage : Conversion of raw material into de-fiberation pulp.
• Second Stage : Conversion of de-fiberated pulp into required
shape
• Third stage : Sealing of the Product
• Fourth Stage : Passing through Sterilization unit

• At 2006, he visited IIT-Madras to show his idea & get suggestions
• His idea was registered for the ‘National Innovation Foundation's
Grassroots Technological Innovations Award’ & it won the
award.
• He received it from President Pratibha Patil.
• This event brought him into the media spotlight and he obtained
some seed funding and founded ‘Jayaashree Industries’, which
now markets these machines to rural women all over India.
