2. WHAT IS
DESIGN
THINKING?
Design thinking refers to the set of
cognitive, strategic, and practical
procedures used by designers in the
process of designing, and to the body
of knowledge that has been developed
about how people reason when
engaging with design problems.

3. PAD MAN
Muruganantham Arunachalam aka Pad Man
the man who bought a revolution in our
country by making low cost sanitary pads
and also giving jobs to women of rural areas.

4. DESIGNING THINKING THROUGH PADMAN
• The movie padman is a great example of learning entrepreneurship. We can learn how to create
good solutions that can help society.
• The way in which he identifies the problem, applies his ideas, came with solutions, tests his
solution, and finally evolved his product with further research is a great thing to learn from the
movie.

5. EXPLORE
• Lakshmi married Shanthi in the year 1998.
• After a few months of marriage he realized that at the time of periods his wife as
well as other women the society use dirty clothes
• After meeting a doctor he realized the need for hygiene that should be maintained
by women on the days of their periods.
• When he came to know about the price of the sanitary pad he decided that he will
make it by himself at a much cheaper rate.

6. IDEATE
• He came up with solution of making
pads by himself using regular cotton.
• He failed as the product was not able
to soak the blood properly.

7. CREATE
• Lakshmi did a lot of research and found a
solution.
• He imported the cellulose fiber and made a
manually operated machine of his own that cost
around 65000rs.
• He tested his pad on few people and got their
reviews.

8. EVOLVE
• After doing many experiments and
taking reviews from the people
Lakshmi finally made a product that
was perfect.
• His product was identified as a great
invention and bought a revolution to
our society.

9. TAM, SAM, SOM
• TAM: Approx. 1.6 billion women in the world use
pads. In India only 36% of women use pads.
• SAM: All the women around each and every. rural
areas of our country face this problem
• SOM: Lakshmi started his venture in a small
village and succeeded there.

10. ACHIEVEMENTS
• In 2016, he was awarded the Padma Shri by
the Government of India.
• In 2014, he was included in Time magazine's list
of 100 Most Influential People in the World.
