Lgbt Committee Discrimination
Why the LGBT committee is being discriminated against
Have you ever felt so strongly about a topic, but when you really think of why you feel that way it's
hard to come up with reasons why? That's kind of how I feel about today's topic; it's an issue I don't
feel even deserves an explanation, it should just be. The topic is on whether or not gay and lesbians
should be allowed to adopt. I am one hundred and ten percent for this issue, and I believe that
everyone should see it as I do. Of course that is a little unreasonable, however that won't stop me
from trying to persuade the other side. There are many facts and statistics that will support my side,
along with an interview from a close friend sharing her views. There is also money, which ... Show

Foster care is responsible for providing to the needs of children who don't have homes. And who is
responsible for funding these expenses? CNN wrote an article on the average cost of raising a child
for 18 years, "High–income families who live in the urban Northeast, for example, are projected to
spend nearly $455,000 to raise their child to the age of 18, while low–income rural families will
spend much less, an estimated $145,500, according to the report" (Hicken). Lets go with the lowest
number, $145,000, and divide that by 18 years; roughly $8,000 is spent to care for a child per year in
a low income household. Now lets take a look at how many children are in the foster care system in
the United States. "On average, 402,000 children are in the foster care, and in 2013, over 23,000
aged out of the system" ("Children's Rights" 1). If we were to do the math, over 3 billion dollars
would be spent on fostering children, per year! By simply allowing same sex couples to adopt, we
could save the government money that could be put to use of other important things, such as
improving city parks or assisting other families who struggle financially. Or better yet, we could be
spending money towards getting help for the kids who have been in foster care and have developed

Homophobia In Peter Pan
Have you ever wondered why some Disney villains are often so frilly and tend to care about their
appearance? Well stereotypically gay men are portrayed that way as well, so does that mean Disney
is making their villains sub textly gay? Looking back into the 1950's and to current times, you'll find
that our societies views of those who aren't straight are negative and has found itself in our
childhood movies. A good example of homophobia in a Disney animated movie is Peter Pan. The
villain of this classic film is no other than Captain Hook, a character who dresses in frilly clothes,
often cares for his appearance and chases after the neverland boys. This movie was released in 1953,
during this time those who were gay, especially men, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most would never figure this term as offensive. But looking into how the Candy King dresses it isn't
very different from how Captain Hook dresses, both wear pink, very frilly/ feminine clothing, as
well as both characters extremely careful about their appearances. Let alone how they both act,
exaggerated movements, flowery language and very prissy like. But what was happening during the
time Wreck–It Ralph came out? Wreck–It Ralph came out in 2012, during this time man more a
pushing for same–sex marriage and better equality for the LGBT community. But there was also
major pushback from many states who banned same–sex marriage before their district courts could
rule it unconstitutional or even be brought up. Not only was that an issue a lot of homophobia and
the f slur (sorry I personally refuse to say it let alone type it, but I am sure you know what I mean).
King Candy is also another stereotypical gay man represented in Disney with the only difference to
Captain Hook, is that King Candy isn't seen going after boys. Between these two characters and the
time eras, Disney hasn't made much of an effort to change when it comes to how it portrays the
LGBT community since it has viewed Captain Hook and King Candy because "For decades, Disney
films have reinforced the stereotype that gay men are bad because not only do they scheme and
enact mischief upon the good characters, but they are also

The Gay/Lesbian Market Essay
The Gay/Lesbian Market
With the waving of the rainbow flag, the emergence of a vibrant gay and lesbian niche market is
being heralded across the United States. A wide range of commodities and services aimed at gay and
lesbian consumers are now advertised in an equally wide range of media and venues. Reproductions
of Robert Mapplethorpe photographs in the New Yorker, Miller Beer ads in the Advocate,
catalogues distributed nationally by gay–owned businesses, and websites "display" just a fraction of
the new opportunities for consumption based in lesbian and gay identity. The consolidation of gays
and lesbians as a target market raises several questions. What does this market development have to
do with the lesbian and gay political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The area of intersection that I have been examining is advertising directed toward gays and lesbians
and the trade literature on advertising to this new niche market. Exactly how does advertising
picture and/or describe the gay and lesbian "Community"? The overwhelming majority of this
material depicts that "community" as white, affluent, male, educated, healthy, youngish adults. The
words and pictures in magazines and catalogues, as well as the now–dominant description of gays
and lesbians in the trade literature, fail to adequately represent the diversity of the gay and lesbian
population in this country. A good deal of information about the gay and lesbian market circulating
in the trade literature comes from advertising, consulting and consumer research firms such as
Overlooked Opinions, Rivendell, and Mulryan/Nash. These sources are responsible for
disseminating distorted information about the gay community, which is being fed to corporations to
convince them to advertise to this new market. By generalizing the results of surveys of gay–
publication readers to the "gay community" nationwide and by using extrapolation techniques that
cannot be applied with accuracy to a self reporting population, these firm have inflated estimates of
gained lesbian income and misrepresented gay and lesbian spending patterns. For example, the
claim that the gay and lesbian market is worth $514 billion

Stereotypes And Stereotypes Of The Media
In our media–intensive culture, it is not difficult to find different opinions as well as stereotypes.
Stereotypes are found in the media every day and affect our opinion as well as how we perceive
others. Stereotypes of the GLBT community in the media are most commonly found in movies or in
TV shows but they rarely talk about their sexual identity. When their identity is being portrayed, it is
shown with some form of stereotype. The identity of the homosexual seems to stem from a
stereotype itself; sometimes as if the GLBT community has formed their identities based on
stereotypes. Men are commonly shown as "feminine" while women are portrayed to be "masculine".
Other stereotypes such as that all gay men are all into fashion or that ... Show more content on

These very stereotypes have influenced all of our views on LGBT men and women.
Stereotypes are damaging ideas about how a group of people are supposed to behave and act. It
dehumanizes them by lumping them into broad categories it takes away their traits that makes them
unique and it does not define their personality and turns them into a form of objects. The idea that
the male homosexual is directly linked to feminism is inaccurate. While there are some males who
express themselves in behaviors that are considered to be feminine, there are others who do not. Gay
men are displayed to seem interested in fashion, are meticulous, and are emotional but in reality not
all men display these characteristics. This stereotype damages gay males in the extent that they are
playing a role in which gay men are hiding their uniqueness as individual human beings because of
the formation of these stereotypes.
Sexual behavior and desire varies from person to person and like all humans, gay people also have
sexual needs. The stereotype of them having sex with multiple partners also increases the
generalization that all gay people may have AIDS or HIV. According to US statistics, gay people of
all races are in fact the most severely affected with HIV but the misconception that they all have
AIDS or HIV is wrong. This is harmful to the gay community because men and women who are

Diversity In The Workplace
Furthermore, the power of context is the things in the environment can change people's behaviors.
This will let them know what kinds of actions are properly doing at what time. Lofferda proposes
that some higher level people in the society always do not have good behaviors and take advantages
of gays, she states that "the Supreme Court upheld a Cincinnati ordinance that denied gays and
lesbians legal protection from discrimination in housing, employment, and other public
accommodations" (249). This quote shows that even in higher government, the gays cannot get the
same treatment like the housing and employees as the other residents. The surroundings around
them are really terrible. They cannot get really benefits and advantages from the society or the
government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the contrary, Gladwell states "What do you want? Give me five dollars......pull out a chrome–
plated, five–shot Smith a Wesson 0.38, firing at each of the four youths in turn" (149) This shows
that as the harassment around Goetz, he becomes really angry and annoyed. He does not want to
give the four kids money because there is a gun in his pocket. As the environment and kids'
behaviors changes, he only can shoot them in order not let them find that he has a gun in his pocket.
This shows the environment which can make people have different kinds of decisions and behaviors.
If the kids disturb him, the kids may still on the train and do not have danger in their lives. And also
states that "The impetus to engage in a certain kind of behavior is not coming from a certain kind of
person but from a feature of the environment" (152). This quotes shows that the person does not
have great power to change the behaviors. The environment plays a major key role which make
people's behaviors get to change. The environment affects people's behaviors a lot. Different kinds

Harvey Milk Informative Essay
"If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door." This quote was said by a
man who took that very close to home. Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in the U.S.,
said this quote in one of his personal recordings. Harvey Milk is an important figure in history
because of his ability to persevere and inspire all those who are a part of the LGBT community.
Milk is considered a hero because he refused to let his sexuality get in the way of his dreams and
inspired thousands to embrace their sexuality. Harvey Milk was born May 22, 1930 in Woodmere,
New York. He was a popular kid in his High School, and did many activities from football to opera.

White was only given five years for the assassinations due to the defense that he had depression

Gay Adoption Should Be Legal
Gay adoption is a touchy subject to a lot of people. Even though gay adoption became legal in all 50
states on June 26, 2017 everyone still seems to have an opinion on the matter and a lot of the
opinions lean toward not allowing gay couples to adopt. There are so many children in the foster
care system that need loving and stable homes so why not let gay couples give that to them? There is
a lot of evidence to show that gay couples can be just as good at parenting as a straight couple.
Maybe even better due to them being committed and better motivated because they chose to be
parents. No child should be denied parents that will give them a loving and stable home just as no
couple should be denied a child due to their sexual preference. ... Show more content on

Not a single study has found a difference (between children of gay and straight parents) that you can
construe as harmful. (Dan Gilgoff, 2005) While the debate continues on whether or not to allow gay
couples to adopt, the numbers of children with gay parents keeps increasing. Children with gay
parents thrive and continue to do just as well as children in straight homes. However, critics disagree
and feel that children living in gay homes are at risk of having an unhappy life. Gregory Rogers, a
writer living in South Africa, believes that children in gay homes will have issues that include the
instability of homosexual relationships, evidence of widespread pedophilia within the gay
community, and the possible psychological and social problems associated with children reared in
homes without a mother and a father. Rogers believes it is wrong to trust homosexual couples with
the fragile and impressionable development of children.(2013) Even though a lot of people feel the
same way that Rogers does, that does not mean that it is true. Statistics have shown that children that
are raised by gay parents do just as good as children raised by straight parents. Kerry Hosking, a
psychology and metaphysics student said "It is not possible to discriminate against prospective (gay,
lesbian, bisexual, and transgender) parents, without also showing utter disrespect for the thousands

Cultural Experience
Describe
In preparation for this reflection, I began by thinking about what cultural event I would most like to
attend, what would work for the assignment and what would also benefit me in my personal life by
actually forcing me out of my comfort zone to experience things I never have before. Because
Christianity is such a huge part of my life I immediately thought I would want to do something
based on another religion since I've never really gone out of my religious comfort zone, but for this
assignment I chose to go to a gay bar. The reason I chose to do this was because I have been raised
as a Christian, I grew up in a very conservative town and while I ... Show more content on

drink at the bar, I think it would have changed the experience a little bit. We arrived at the bar at a
little bit after 10 which is when the dance floor opened and stayed until around 1 in the morning.

The part of this experience that was the most compelling to me was almost the sense of community
that I felt was just there between the gay community. Like there were a lot of groups of people there
that night that didn't even know each other, but you would never guess that by the way they acted
like they had been friends for years. Even towards me and my roommate who they didn't know, was
just some straight stranger walking in and "observing" them they were so nice and accepting. They
were willing to let us into their environment, knowing that we were not a part of it and I felt no
judgment or anything. My fears that I had felt earlier in the day before going were put to rest, while
some people were unusually friendly to me no girls really tried to hit on me, which was really
relieving.
As mentioned above, the most shocking thing I noticed was the community, or the way they
socialized with and accepted themselves and each other. I think

Article on lgbt rights. Is acceptance of one's sexuality as important as other issues like poverty,
unemployment, global warming, natural disasters and proper health solutions for Ebola, Lyme that
put our survival itself at risk? When meditating on this question, let us also analyse our own sexual
fabric. We set the standards of our own yardsticks to measure a sexual identity as valid/ invalid,
normal/ abnormal, natural/ unnatural, acceptable/ unacceptable, moral/ immoral and finally good/
bad. Perhaps, upon these standards we define and adopt a sexual identity that belongs to a privileged
position. One tends to overlook these privileges and rights that are available for heterosexual people.

The country can proudly claim the progressive and radical shifts made in response to the demands of
lgbt community. Why even in the twenty first century people have to fight for equal rights as they
encounter discriminations based on sexual attitude and identity in a country that stands for
democratic and secular rules? There are many such questions one needs to ponder on, as we try to
understand the position of the lgbt community of the US juxtaposing its achievements to the ones
made in other countries across the world. Confronting homophobia, eradicating hate crimes and
providing equal rights to the lgbt community are all to be considered considerable achievements of
the society. The United States has been a country, that has seen innumerable radical movements and
fights for lgbt acceptance, presumably progressive as we still have countries that suppress the
existence of sexually marginalised community by all means.
The argument that sexual orientation is already given and it is biological becomes immaterial, when
considering the plethora of sexual cultures that one can find in the US. History makes the evidence
of the existence of variant sexual cultures like tribadism, sadomasochism and so on, available to the
society. Let us not forget that many books based on the theme of homosexuality were banned, to

The Benefits Of Gay And Lesbians In The Military
In addition, all people should be allowed to serve freely in the military. If gay, lesbian and bisexual
people are willing to serve and die for their country, they shouldn't hide their sexual orientation. Gay
and lesbian Americans are anxiously willing to serve the country but they also want to reveal their
true identity as homosexuals. And for the first time ever, they will be able to openly join the army.
Brave men and women currently serving in the army will have the opportunity to come out freely
and to be honest with their companions about whom they are and who they love. Therefore,
nationalistic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the
country they love. And the armed forces will no longer lose its remarkable skills and combat
experience of so many gay and lesbian service members.
Today, every American can be honored that we have taken another great step toward keeping our
military the finest in the world and toward fulfilling our nation's founding ideals. Many countries
prohibited gays and lesbians from serving openly in the armed forces. The reasons to implement this
prohibition, included the hidden negative bounce on unit cohesion and confidential concerns.
However, many studies were charged to examine the effects on the military, and found that little
evidence existed to support the prejudiced policy. Moreover, when the ban was abolished in several
countries including the UK, Canada, and Australia, no large scale

Definition Essay Draft
Words are not defined by dictionaries or professors, or officials, but by how people use them, how
they are put in to context, through the timeless evolution of meanings. Words can have many
different faces, many of which can be powerful or quite weak, others can have a friendly face or a
mean one. Sometimes there are words that can start out having a friendly face, but with time society
can turn them into a mean face that betrays its former self, words like this exist all across modern
social interaction, some can be more prominent than others and promote an ignorant atmosphere as
to which we are forced to live in. The word gay is no exception, many people apply this word

Gay wasn 't used to replace homosexual as a noun until the twentieth century (Oxford English
Dictionary). That was when politics and news corporations used the word to label the homosexual
community as gay. In recent events, for example, there have been instances such as the Gay Rights
Movement which has been mentioned in media, in turn creates it as a label for homosexuals. So
nowadays homosexuals are officially known as gays. Although gay became a technical term in the
professional field, at a local level, the word turned away from being a noun and became an
adjective, just like in the beginnings of the word; but it had taken on a very different meaning from
what it was originally. Gay: adj., stupid, dumb, out of favor. That seems to be how our generation
defined this word, it is sad to see that society has come to this, to relate a group of people to the
words dumb or stupid. People use this word in many cases that don 't even have any relation to the
actual meaning of the word, mostly as a derogatory term or insult. For example, if a student chooses
to complain about a homework assignment or how a teacher runs their classroom, they usually will
say " Man, this is so gay, I hate this" . To the student, their statement is exactly the same as, " Man,
this is so stupid". It is pitiful how this generation has done this to such a word that has so much other
meaning behind it. It is the same story for similar words, like faggot or queer. These terms have

more are what steer the LGBT community away from the military. The LGBT community should be

Gabriel Rotello in his article "Calling All Parents," underscores this need for parental love by stating
that almost all lesbian and gay teens go through a terrible, lonely stage when they feel they have no
one to turn to, not even their own family members – sometimes especially not their own family
members. It's a phase that can leave lasting psychological damage even to the vast majority who
survive it (112). Gay children are at extremely high risk for anxiety, confusion, despair, and, yes,
some even contemplate suicide. In fact, according to a recent study published in the May 1999 issue
of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, gay and lesbian youth "were 3.4 times as likely to
have attempted suicide than straight youth." (487)
Can the media play a part to alert parents of gay children to express their love and acceptance before
it is too late? We see and hear campaigns about drugs and smoking, but what about homosexuality?
Rotello took the plunge and created an ad campaign that warns, "Millions of American kids are gay
and at risk. So talk to your children and let them know you love them, no matter how they choose to
love." (112) The more exposure this sensitive issue receives in the media, the better off families with
gay members will be.
On another note, the gay and lesbian community is gaining more acceptance in the entertainment

of the same gender. Marriage has changed and has become such a huge topic of conversation and

Whenever a gay couple adopts a child, the couple should think about the child's stability. Adopting a
child while being homosexual can have many effects on the child and how the child view things. A
child that grows up in a gay house hold may grow up and think that it is okay to date someone of the
same gender. Homosexual couples cannot produce children, so therefore they must adopt if they
want children. A homosexual couple who adopts children does not take the children in
consideration. In the article, In the Best Interests of the (Silenced) Child, the author says, "to include
children's voices would be to acknowledge children's agency and individuality and in doing so
would undermine the figure of the passive, innocent and powerless child which sustains the 'best
interests' rhetoric." The author is basically saying that a child that is for adoption does not have a
voice and no one takes in consideration of the child's feelings. A gay couple that adopts does this for
their satisfaction instead of the child. Many heterosexual couples would argue that a child needs a
male figure in their life as well as a female

Analysis of Andrew Sullivan´s Article: "Let Gays Marry"
Gay Marriage is not Equal Rights In his essay, "Let Gays Marry," Andrew Sullivan advocates gay
marriage. He argues that gay couples ought to be able to marry because as citizens, they deserve
equal rights. He claims that disallowing gays to marry each other would make them strangers in
their own country. However, his argument is invalid as it seeks to impose the broad definition of
equality on the narrower, but unrelated issue of marriage. Just because gays have equal rights as
citizens, doesn't mean they have the right to marry each other, because homosexual marriage cannot
fulfill the biological, sociological, or civil aims of marriage. Sullivan starts by quoting the Supreme
Court's declaration that "[a] state cannot deem a class of persons a stranger to its laws" (83),
demonstrating that gays and lesbians are entitled to equal rights with other people. He is absolutely
right. Gays and lesbians, as citizens, should have equal rights. They do have equal rights. But
Sullivan makes a "radical proposal" (Sullivan 83) on the issue. He concludes that, because gays are
equal in the view of the law, they should be allowed to marry. True, gays and non–gays are equal
under the law. However, individual freedoms are very different from the proposition of gay
marriage. When looked at objectively, gays have no less rights then non–gays. Moreover, the
equality we have is judicial, not biological. Homosexual relationships lack the biological conditions
required by nature for marriage,

unquestioned yes. Gays would be proud and determined to protect this beautiful country in which
we live. I personally am confused as to why there is even a question of whether or not gays should
be allowed to protect and die for a country they love. I do understand however the question of where
should they live, both in the field and at their home base. It is hard for a ... Show more content on

On one hand you have the "In group" which is non–gay people, and on the other hand we have the
"Out group" which is the gay and lesbian community. This is a classic example of how a prejudice is
used to keep the, "Out group" down and out. This is because any culture that tries to identify and
prosecute something as hidden as a secret homosexual identity can only do so by creating a climate
of fear and hypocrisy. It must encourage unfounded accusations and it must submit unfairly accused
people to brutal and destructive interrogations. In the case of gays, this must be done whether or not
the suspected parties recognize themselves as gay or lesbian prior to the interrogations. Military
examples of these interrogations sometimes sound like brainwashing. There are currently gays in the
military. A ban cannot keep gays out. There are just as many gays in the military as there are in
civilian life. Policing the military to eliminate homosexuality does not eliminate homosexuals but it
does create a climate of anxiety that causes a sexually toxic situation for everyone, straights as well
as gays, because straights can be mislabeled as gay in our current military. Straights are also able to
keep gays down because of this anxiety. The present view of our government on gays in the military
is a policy first brought up by the Clinton administration, and that is a policy of "Don't

Gay Adoption Should Be Legalized
"It matters not who you love, where you love, why you love when you love or how you love it only
matters that you" – John Lennon. Homosexuals have been fighting for equality over six decades in
America history. The situation of gay equality has slowly simmered down. Homosexuals are still
face with certain issues. One of these issues is gay couples do not have the right to adopt children in
certain states. Adoption should be legalized for gay couples; if they meet the requirements of being a
great parent deserves to have that privilege. Here are some of the reasons why homosexual's couples
are great parents. One reason is homosexual couples choose to have kids. Unlike heterosexuals
couples who typically have "uh oh" babies. According to the Guttmacher Institute "about half of
U.S. pregnancies are unplanned and half of those unplanned pregnancies end in birth rather than
abortion". Not saying that unplanned pregnancies will not be great parents but some are ... Show

Children raised by homosexual's couples are often taught to be open–minded and display love
towards everyone. In heterosexual families children were taught the dos and don'ts of his or her sex.
In other case in homosexual families children were taught to dream big. According to the American
Journal of Orthopsychiatry, Clark University's "Goldberg interviewed 46 adults who grew up with at
least one gay parent. Twenty–eight of the interviewees independently mentioned that they felt their
upbringing made them more tolerant and accepting." The third reason is that nurture the helpless. In
adoption children with special needs or are older have a slight chance to not get adopted. The Evans
B. Donald Adoption Institute found that "60% of gay and lesbian adoptive parents adopt across
races. The percentage of homosexuals that would like to adopt get higher and higher every year and

Playing A Sport Is Tough Enough As It Is, Things Such As
Playing a sport is tough enough as it is, things such as training, potential for injuries, mental
preparation and making sure the team reaches their full potential are all factors. Now, imagine not
feeling like a part of that team because of the person you want to love. I was fortunate enough to be
able to get a first hand look into what being a gay athlete is like. My ex teammate and friend Ryan
Houchen, great athlete, even better person. Ryan himself is a homosexual athlete, he played hockey
for Metro State as well as the University of Colorado Denver. He, as well as others, are seeing that
more and more gay athletes are emerging and as Ryan says, "Things are definitely on the up". What

These are shocking statistic really, when asking Ryan about his comfort level with his team he said,
"It was okay, I never felt physically threatened...". He did say however, that he did never feel quite
like a part of the team due to his sexuality. Another aspect of homophobia affecting gays in sports is
the homophobic slurs used in the locker room and on the field, granted, Ryan said that even in day
to day life he never felt harmed or hurt by homophobic slurs. However, it is still a major problem in
sports. 89 percent of homosexuals heard or felt targeted by homosexual slurs, according to the study.
In my interview with Ryan I asked him if the culture of the locker room needed to be the first thing
to change, he said "Absolutely, sometimes it has to start from within a team and then that positive
and encouraging attitude can go on to others."
In my interview with Ryan, he said he never felt targeted but he did hint at the fact that at times the
slurs could be excessive, he aimed responsibility of the needed culture change on the coaching staff.
He spoke about the coaches on one of the teams he played for previously, who used slurs towards
the opposing team, "Kinda shocked me, but I recognized it was a motivating factor". Coaches in the
sports are ones who need to step up to the plate and make the world of sports more comforting and
help homosexuals feel less threatened. Most coaches have or at

Pros And Cons Of Homophobia In America
In America, there are laws and policies to protect the working class. Employers can not discriminate
on employees based on race or gender, although sexual orientation is not covered by such laws. This
leaves gay people venerable to discrimination in the work place or the termination of their job,
because of how they choose to express their sexuality. This venerability caused by the lack of anti–
discrimination laws. This puts gay people into a situation that is less stable than their heterosexual
counter parts. As long as a person's intimate relationships do not impact work performance, then a
person's relationship choices, gay or not, should not be a concern to the employer. Homophobia is
often based on one's religious belief that gays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alleviating homophobia in education, would allow for more LGB people to get the education that is
needed to get a secure job. John Iceland, Professor of Sociology and Demography at Pennsylvania
State University, in his book Poverty in America: A Handbook, explores how inequality in
opportunity plays a large role in driving poverty. He explains that in globalization of trade and
sending jobs overseas for cheaper labor, makes less unskilled jobs for people in America. Iceland
explains those who are more likely to lose their jobs are more likely to fall into poverty. He observes
that an uneducated people are having a harder time getting a job, and higher education is necessary
to get a well–paying secure job (Iceland). The discrimination makes it harder for homosexual people
to get an education, therefore making it harder for them to secure a stable job in the current state of
the economy. Gay people are very prone to discrimination. LBT people are more prone to a wage
gap caused by lack of opportunity that makes them more likely to experience poverty. The constant
threat of homophobia is a threat to gay people and put gay people in an unsafe, unstable work and

The LGBT community should be able to serve openly in the military because gender identity has
nothing to do with physical ability, the ban is an act of discrimination, and the American
Constitution proposes a society based in inclusion not exclusion.
The LGBT community should be able the serve openly in the military because gender identity has
nothing to do with physical ability. Gender identity and sexual orientation are not the same, and
many people do not understand the difference between the two. Gender identity is which one applies
him/herself as male or female. This includes: straight men and women transgender men and women,
and some lesbians and gays. The definition of Sexual orientation is the person which one desires to
be with. To further explain: a woman with a woman would be in the lesbian community. A man with
a man would be the in gay community. A man or a woman who chooses to be with either sex would
be in the bisexual community, and the transgender community would be men or women that have
gone under surgeries or procedures that change their gender identity. "Gender identity and sexual

Persuasive Essay On Gay Marriage
America prides itself in allowing its citizens to manifest their natural born rights. Our founding
fathers created documents such as the Constitution granting us our liberties, the main one being the
pursuit of happiness. However, throughout history people have faced discrimination due to race,
gender, class and sexual orientation. The LGBTQ community has fought to gain their right to marry
and won. Many believe that same sex marriage mocks the idea of commitment. Yet, they fail to
understand that marriage is not a privilege but a right. Individuals should be able to marry who they
love regardless of their gender.
Before discussing the idea of gay marriage, I will briefly discuss the many challenges that people of
the LGBTQ community have struggled with and the reasons for this. The main reason that the
legalization of gay marriage is looked down upon is due to the normalization of heterosexuality.
Because heterosexuality dominates society it creates a stigma towards LGBTQ youth. It creates
more pressure for them to come out because having feelings for the same sex makes them feel
different when in reality they're not. We dont ask straight people to announce their sexuality so why
must they? They already deal with internal issues. Examples of these internal issues include
understanding and coming to terms with their sexuality. Being gay has such a negative connotation
to it. "To call someone gay or fag is like the lowest thing you can call someone. Because that's like

Persuasive Essay On Gay Adoption
When it comes to gay and lesbian people fighting for the right to adopt children in the United States,
this task becomes one of the most difficult feats to accomplish. The difficulties that lesbians and gay
people must deal with are religions and states that discriminate on the right for lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) to adopt children. The problem when it involves religion is that
there are groups of people that strongly believe that a child should be raised by a man and woman
and not by a gay or lesbian couple. adding to the fact that some states allow Christian adoption
agencies to have the authority to discriminate homosexuals from adopting; for example, when Texas
passed the bill "Freedom to Serve Children Act," allowing discrimination against same–sex
adoptions on May 08, 2017(Lang). The right for a person to adopt should be allowed to anyone
above the age of eighteen. If that individual does not have a record that could endanger a child than
he or she should have the right to adopt a child without having religious ideals interfering. Other
issues that LGBT face are the financial burdens to become a second parent to an adopted child or
significant other's child. These are some issues that need to be improved for the LGBT's rights to
become parents.
In the United States, there are some states that make it difficult for gay and lesbian couples to adopt
children. "The jurisprudential landscape for same–sex adoption is a patchwork of laws, policies, and

Moonlight Movie Analysis
At the "Hot Wings and Hot Topics," we watched the movie, Moonlight, which is about a Black
American man named Chiron, and takes place in 1980 in Miami. The movie is about 3 parts of
Chiron's life; young adolescence, mid–teen, and young adult. The first Chapter is his childhood in
which he is known as "Little." He lived in a neighborhood full of crime with his mom who was a
drug addict. Little is a little, shy boy who tends to be bullied. He has one friend his age named Chris,
and a drug dealer named Juan, who sees how neglected Little is from his mom. Because of this, Juan
tries to give as much care to Little, and so does his girlfriend, Teresa, and they allow Chiron to go to
their house whenever he needs to get away from the bullying or his mother. The next chapter is
"Chiron," and is about his teen life. This is where we learn a little about Chiron's sexuality, and
when he begins to stick up for himself towards the end of the chapter. We see peer pressure in this
chapter because if affect what Chiron, and his friends are accepted to do. In the third chapter,
"Black," we see Chiron all good up, and no longer skinny, but built like a strong man. After leaving
Miami, Black is a drug dealer, is no longer weak, but is a drug dealer like Juan. He has a lot of
masculinity now with his body, and what he wears. His old friend, Chris, gives him a call to come
see him after years, and we are left with them hugging each other. The discussion begins with the
end of the movie when

History Of GLAAD
HISTORY
GLAAD was formerly known as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.[i] It was
founded in New York City in 1985 by Vito Russo, Jewelle Gomez and George Kolovakos.[ii]
GLAAD is a media monitoring agency that seeks to promote and protect issues affecting the
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.
The organization was originally founded in response to the New York Post's homophobic and
defamatory coverage of the AIDS epidemic, which was at its height in the 1980's. Initially,
AIDS was closely linked with gay men within the American psychology.[iii] The first time that
AIDS was detected in the United States was in 1981, when groups of men in New York and
Los Angeles were diagnosed with Kaposi's sarcoma and pneumocystis pneumonia.[iv] The
media had labeled it as a gay disease. Based upon the statistics compiled by the Center for
Disease Control, the AIDS virus disproportionately impacted gay men at a time when
Americans had an extremely negative attitude towards homosexuality. "[I]t was perhaps
inevitable that AIDS would be defined in political and cultural terms as well as medically, and
that many heterosexuals' reactions to AIDS would reflect their attitudes toward
homosexuality."[v]
Thus, the coverage of homosexuals was extremely sensationalized and a topic that was not
generally discussed as a societal norm within the mainstream media. Nonetheless, due to the
hard work of its pioneering members, GLAAD enjoyed several early

Gay Marriage Did you know that 52% of the population support gay marriage and 40% of the
population do not (Changing Attitudes on Gay Marriage), but what happens with that 8% that
doesn't know or doesn't care? What if the 8% could help people be happy. Did you know 10% of the
population in the world is gay (Robison)? There are so few gays in our population. Are people just
being selfish or do they honestly believe that it's such a bad thing and that having gays could cause
problems. I hope in this paper you see what side you want to support and go with. First off I would
like to tell you the argument side against gay marriage and why people do not like it and don't want
to see it legal. People that think gay marriage is so wrong usually goes off of three things. First is
usually the religious side and debates on whether god wants it to be that way and how there are
raised is also a factor in the religious side. Second they argue that if adopted a kid or kids that it
would mentally hurt the child and could cause damage having parents that are gay and not having
both a mother and a father. Third is the people either just don't want to see it or its against
everything, this would also combined with the tradition reasons and complaints. this is where people
come up with all the reasons why it should be illegal. Most of those reasons can be hurt full and
sometimes make no sense. To people that are gay all this comes as an offence

Stereotypes In Modern Family, Glee, And Mean Girls
Imagine being mocked for who you are and singled out on the way you act and dress–heterosexuals
face that problem everyday seeing it broadcasted on shows and movies commonly seen in the genre
of drama and comedy. Stereotypes on groups of people affect whether they are true or just a
perception. The gay community is discriminated against and has to overcome stereotypes in the
media, as seen in Modern Family, Glee, and Mean Girls showing how they are struggling to be
represented accurately and positively.
Before the 1960's gay men weren't shown in films, plays, shows, etc. but the very first time a
homosexual character was aired in a film was in 1962, in the film Advise and Consent (Wood 2007).

Modern Family does not let the audience perceive only one trait for the characters Cam and Mitchel.
In a blog by Murray Lipp, she writes the stereotype that "Gay men are not relationship–oriented",
this is an unrealistic assumption that gay men do not keep committed relationships but in the show
the relationship between Mitch and Cam are in a stable relationship that are supportive of each
other(Lipp 2013). Cam and Mitch live together and are loving to each other and are serious about
their relationship. It may seem that "Two gay men as a couple can't raise healthy and happy
children" stated by Murray Lipp but in the show the couple adopts a baby and are more than capable
of being good parents, Cam and Mitch are loving parents to their daughter (Lipp). Cam is being
portrayed as feminine and a stereotypical gay man but they also show a side of him as a farmer,
football player, and continuing his teaching of music. It is important showcasing the contradictions
of the stereotypes so it can help viewers understand that stereotypes are not something that is
realistic and all gay individuals are

Gay Bars And Gay Nightclubs
Introduction Since the 1930s, gay bars and gay nightclubs have been around. The bar called White
Horse, in Oakland, California, has been opened since 1933. It is known to be the first gay bar to be
opened here in America. Being gay in the 1930s was brutal. Same gender sex was a felony, and
being caught in a gay bar could cost someone their job. "In a society that viewed gays as barley
human, the White Horse allowed a level of freedom that in the 1940s or 1950s was liberating"
(Duffy 2016). With time changes and people being more accepted, gay bars and gay nightclubs
started opening all across America. One of the many gay nightclubs here in Denver is known as
Tracks. It was opened in 1980. On October 5th, 2017, an experimental observation at the Tracks
nightclub was made. During this experience, it was observed that these people that identified as
either gay, lesbian, or bisexual were acting as normal human beings in a heterosexual nightclub.
Although the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender movement acts have been created to allow
this community to be more opened and unafraid, it has had a history of having psychological
components such as depression, and social components such as relationships with one another, and
of course the history within hate crimes towards the LGBT community.

that are going through this. The LGBT community already go through enough some of their families
disown them because of who they are which is ridiculous. People make them feel guilty because
loving another sex is a sin which it is not. Our society thinks children needs a mother and father not

because the government feel like they are not fit to do so. Many states still have a ban on gay
marriage until this day. Before President Obama left office he promised to help the LGBT
community to gain their rights and also appeal the DADT. Our government should take more
procession with their rights we have hateful people out there and would like to terminate them. In
2016 the military lifted the ban on transgender people. Which is a start I feel that it should not be a
option to pick and choose who to fight for our country. Also I feel that if a person love someone no
matter what color , shape , size , gender , etc you should not stop them from finding their true love.

Personal Narrative: The Pentecostal Church
As a child, I was taught the beliefs of the Pentecostal Church. That church was interesting, to say the
least. Ladies always wore skirts, people would start speaking in tongues in the service, most
members were very closed–minded and, the part that most affected me: being gay was a sin. When I
hit middle school, I began to see life outside of my church. People were gay and transgender. I
wasn't sure what to think about it. I had been taught that it was a sin, so why were these people so
willingly rejecting the Lord? I had avoided it for a very long time– that is, until rumors started.
Saying that I was in a lesbian relationship with my two best friends. I cried when approached, but
not because it was inaccurate in any way. I was in denial about my love for girls. I wasn't a lesbian,
no;, I'll get to that later. That rumors continued for a long time. My denial continued for a long time.

"Family–ship"
In 1994, the book, Waves: An Anthology of New Gay Fiction, edited by Ethan Mordden was

about homosexual issues within a dominant heterosexual culture. The book, saturated with
homosexual ideas, was published at a point in history when homosexuality was utterly taboo and its
condemnation was commonplace. Moreover, the rise of the HIV and the AIDS scare, which was
peaking at this time, injected fear into the hearts of mainstream Americans, who demonized
homosexuality as causing these fatal diseases. The short story, "Homo in Heteroland", which was

America is said to be the land of the free, which means that every legal citizen is given freedom of
speech, and the right of privacy. Among these rights, we are given freedom of religion. If someone

own religion however they see fit, and you are welcome in America because this is the land of the

People are ignorant, and humans harm others everyday for no real reason. Do Gay people harm

Argumentative Statement Against Gay Adoption
Gaia Alberti
Ms Mathers
HN English III
13 November 2017 Gay Adoption
"We believe that every child has the right to a loving, nurturing and permanent family, and that
people from a variety of life experiences offer strengths for these children" (The Board of Directors
of the National Adoption Center). Gay adoption by legal couples has become a rising controversy in
the past decade, affecting the lives of many children and families. Around the world there are so
many children that need to be adopted and thousand and thousand parents that want to undertake
this experience, but they are not allowed because of the law in some countries. These parents have
the right to adopt and have done nothing wrong and they have the same ability to grow children as
straight couple; yet, they are not allowed to take care of a child that has been abandoned. Still, many
people are against gay adoption because they think kids need a mother and a father to have proper
male male and female role models. They also believe kids raised by a gay couple are more likely to
become gay. This unconstitutional act exists because of prejudices and discrimination. Many
organizations wants equal rights for all parents and children and they believe discrimination based
on sexual orientation should be stopped. Gays and lesbians should be allowed to adopt because they
can be just as good at parenting as straight couple. Many kids are still in orphanages waiting for
homes, and children will have the opportunity

Let Gays Marry and Leave Marriage Alone Essay
I will summarize some of the key points from the essay, Let Gays Marry, by Andrew Sullivan, and
the essay, Leave Marriage Alone, by William Bennett. Some of these main points are taken from
mutual beliefs of both authors and others are derived from the opposing opinions of the two.
The first summary of Andrew Sullivan's essay is a reflection of Andrew Sullivan's stance of the
issue. The original essay was in favor of allowing same sex marriage in America. My summary will
dictate some of the arguments that I found to be the most persuasive and important to Sullivan's
case. The second summary is of Bennett's essay, Leave Marriage Alone. I will, again, try to point out
the most influential pieces of argument in the essay. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a basis for these arguments, Sullivan believes that marriage is an important key to the
progression of homosexual equality in America.
Sullivan is aware of certain churches and religious affiliates that would be in opposition to the
marrying of gay couples. Sullivan explains that homosexuals pushing for the permission of gay
marriage do not intend to change the doctrines or traditions of any church. The movement's actual
desire is the fundamental right to marriage.
Sullivan reiterates the hopes of the gay community by expressing their longing for recognition
before the law as a married couple. Gays are essentially making the simple request that they be
given the same marriage license as any other couple in America who wishes to be married.
Advocates of homosexual marriage say they are aiming to strengthen and become a part of the
institution. Bennett disagrees and implores that if they were allowed to follow through, and be
accepted as an active part of the institution of marriage, they would be, in turn, destroying the very
foundations of marriage.
Bennett deems that allowing gays to marry would have a profound influence on society. The change
from the traditional ideals of marriage would completely redefine the conventional definition of
marriage. Simply allowing gays to marry would contradict some of the worlds major religions that

Downtown El Paso: Personal Narrative Analysis
One of the biggest events of the year in El Paso, Texas, is the big outdoor market that only happens
once a year, exactly during the first weekend of June. It happens in Downtown El Paso a city where
we have more hours of sunshine than of darkness. Every year, I go with my family. We get there
together on the same van, but when it comes to shopping and exploring it, my mom would give each
of her children, meaning my two sisters and me, money for us to splurge on anything that can calm
our capricious desires. We always seem to squander it in an impetuous way. I opted to take my own
way through the market. I prefer to go through the handmade crafts and all the artsy stuff section. I
decided that this year I might be able to encounter a fascinating ... Show more content on

I decided to leave home after I turned 20. None of who I was really interested them. I was openly
gay, they weren't able to accept it either, I didn't have anything else to do there." Antonio pauses for
a few seconds, pondering upon his past, then he proceeds, "The thing is that my parents were
forcing me to marry this girl, my brother's sister–in–law. And there comes a time in everyone's life
when you have to say to yourself, 'I will begin living my own life; one's life ought to be self–
governed. Your life, your choices, live it the way you want it, not the way anybody wants you to live
it." As he was uttering all this, I wrote it all down, trying to make it fit into the significance behind
the discovery of his signature style. He went on to tell me big part of the story follows the departure
from his parents' side. He said he went on to travel the globe, he studied art in Paris, found the love
of his life. He commented that the sheer joy of just living life the way he wanted to steer it, allowed
him to collect a bundle of memories and that it all has inspired his art. Life itself is a ceaseless
source of inspiration and it morphed into his primary artistic influence: "I didn't just sit one day and
said 'I'm going to have my own distinguished style.' My art depicts aspects that are part of our
normality–we just aren't aware of

The Lgbt Community : Dan Savage
Evan Cafiero
Professor Mohammed
MGT 110
Dec 2nd, 2015 Dan Savage Throughout the years, the LGBT community has made numerous strides
in equality, recognition, and respect. Every rights movement has its origins, and the push for the
LGBT community is no different. Beginning with the Stonewall Riots in New York 40–something
years ago, to the protests against Proposition 8 on the west coast, leaders have emerged; countless
Americans that believe LGBT persons can become fully vested in the American dream stand behind
them. One such leader is Dan Savage–an author, journalist, and primarily, an advocate for the LGBT
community. He demonstrates multiple traits of a leader, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But these accomplishments are only secondary to his greatest feat–the "It Gets Better Project". On
September 21st 2010, Savage, along with his husband Terry Miller, put into motion the "It Gets
Better Project" because of the suicide of Billy Lucas, 15 year–old who was perceived to be gay. It
encourages adults, both LGBT or otherwise, to submit videos assuring gay teenagers that life can
improve after bullying in early life. The movement gathered motion instantly and by November of
2013, it had more than 50,000 user created videos, and each testimonial was viewed over 50 million
times. Savage gained a following and was recognized amongst the LGBT leaders of the decade, and
he demonstrated the qualities of being a leader.
First off, he has aspects of the emotional intelligence–traits that allow him to interpret the emotions
of those he is fighting for–and against. He knows the struggle of the LGBT person because he,
himself, is gay. His multiple channels of communication to his audience reinforce his ability to
recognize and meet their needs. Savage's "It Gets Better Project" inspired millions with the
compelling vision of equality amongst sexual orientations. But, by far, is Savage's most defining
trait–his aggressiveness. Savage is a catalyst for change because he stands up to conservative
politicians, and even though he may be harsh, he proves his point.

Lgbt Committee Discrimination

  • 1. Lgbt Committee Discrimination Why the LGBT committee is being discriminated against Have you ever felt so strongly about a topic, but when you really think of why you feel that way it's hard to come up with reasons why? That's kind of how I feel about today's topic; it's an issue I don't feel even deserves an explanation, it should just be. The topic is on whether or not gay and lesbians should be allowed to adopt. I am one hundred and ten percent for this issue, and I believe that everyone should see it as I do. Of course that is a little unreasonable, however that won't stop me from trying to persuade the other side. There are many facts and statistics that will support my side, along with an interview from a close friend sharing her views. There is also money, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Foster care is responsible for providing to the needs of children who don't have homes. And who is responsible for funding these expenses? CNN wrote an article on the average cost of raising a child for 18 years, "High–income families who live in the urban Northeast, for example, are projected to spend nearly $455,000 to raise their child to the age of 18, while low–income rural families will spend much less, an estimated $145,500, according to the report" (Hicken). Lets go with the lowest number, $145,000, and divide that by 18 years; roughly $8,000 is spent to care for a child per year in a low income household. Now lets take a look at how many children are in the foster care system in the United States. "On average, 402,000 children are in the foster care, and in 2013, over 23,000 aged out of the system" ("Children's Rights" 1). If we were to do the math, over 3 billion dollars would be spent on fostering children, per year! By simply allowing same sex couples to adopt, we could save the government money that could be put to use of other important things, such as improving city parks or assisting other families who struggle financially. Or better yet, we could be spending money towards getting help for the kids who have been in foster care and have developed mental health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Homophobia In Peter Pan Have you ever wondered why some Disney villains are often so frilly and tend to care about their appearance? Well stereotypically gay men are portrayed that way as well, so does that mean Disney is making their villains sub textly gay? Looking back into the 1950's and to current times, you'll find that our societies views of those who aren't straight are negative and has found itself in our childhood movies. A good example of homophobia in a Disney animated movie is Peter Pan. The villain of this classic film is no other than Captain Hook, a character who dresses in frilly clothes, often cares for his appearance and chases after the neverland boys. This movie was released in 1953, during this time those who were gay, especially men, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most would never figure this term as offensive. But looking into how the Candy King dresses it isn't very different from how Captain Hook dresses, both wear pink, very frilly/ feminine clothing, as well as both characters extremely careful about their appearances. Let alone how they both act, exaggerated movements, flowery language and very prissy like. But what was happening during the time Wreck–It Ralph came out? Wreck–It Ralph came out in 2012, during this time man more a pushing for same–sex marriage and better equality for the LGBT community. But there was also major pushback from many states who banned same–sex marriage before their district courts could rule it unconstitutional or even be brought up. Not only was that an issue a lot of homophobia and the f slur (sorry I personally refuse to say it let alone type it, but I am sure you know what I mean). King Candy is also another stereotypical gay man represented in Disney with the only difference to Captain Hook, is that King Candy isn't seen going after boys. Between these two characters and the time eras, Disney hasn't made much of an effort to change when it comes to how it portrays the LGBT community since it has viewed Captain Hook and King Candy because "For decades, Disney films have reinforced the stereotype that gay men are bad because not only do they scheme and enact mischief upon the good characters, but they are also ... • 5. The Gay/Lesbian Market Essay The Gay/Lesbian Market With the waving of the rainbow flag, the emergence of a vibrant gay and lesbian niche market is being heralded across the United States. A wide range of commodities and services aimed at gay and lesbian consumers are now advertised in an equally wide range of media and venues. Reproductions of Robert Mapplethorpe photographs in the New Yorker, Miller Beer ads in the Advocate, catalogues distributed nationally by gay–owned businesses, and websites "display" just a fraction of the new opportunities for consumption based in lesbian and gay identity. The consolidation of gays and lesbians as a target market raises several questions. What does this market development have to do with the lesbian and gay political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The area of intersection that I have been examining is advertising directed toward gays and lesbians and the trade literature on advertising to this new niche market. Exactly how does advertising picture and/or describe the gay and lesbian "Community"? The overwhelming majority of this material depicts that "community" as white, affluent, male, educated, healthy, youngish adults. The words and pictures in magazines and catalogues, as well as the now–dominant description of gays and lesbians in the trade literature, fail to adequately represent the diversity of the gay and lesbian population in this country. A good deal of information about the gay and lesbian market circulating in the trade literature comes from advertising, consulting and consumer research firms such as Overlooked Opinions, Rivendell, and Mulryan/Nash. These sources are responsible for disseminating distorted information about the gay community, which is being fed to corporations to convince them to advertise to this new market. By generalizing the results of surveys of gay– publication readers to the "gay community" nationwide and by using extrapolation techniques that cannot be applied with accuracy to a self reporting population, these firm have inflated estimates of gained lesbian income and misrepresented gay and lesbian spending patterns. For example, the claim that the gay and lesbian market is worth $514 billion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Stereotypes And Stereotypes Of The Media In our media–intensive culture, it is not difficult to find different opinions as well as stereotypes. Stereotypes are found in the media every day and affect our opinion as well as how we perceive others. Stereotypes of the GLBT community in the media are most commonly found in movies or in TV shows but they rarely talk about their sexual identity. When their identity is being portrayed, it is shown with some form of stereotype. The identity of the homosexual seems to stem from a stereotype itself; sometimes as if the GLBT community has formed their identities based on stereotypes. Men are commonly shown as "feminine" while women are portrayed to be "masculine". Other stereotypes such as that all gay men are all into fashion or that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These very stereotypes have influenced all of our views on LGBT men and women. Stereotypes are damaging ideas about how a group of people are supposed to behave and act. It dehumanizes them by lumping them into broad categories it takes away their traits that makes them unique and it does not define their personality and turns them into a form of objects. The idea that the male homosexual is directly linked to feminism is inaccurate. While there are some males who express themselves in behaviors that are considered to be feminine, there are others who do not. Gay men are displayed to seem interested in fashion, are meticulous, and are emotional but in reality not all men display these characteristics. This stereotype damages gay males in the extent that they are playing a role in which gay men are hiding their uniqueness as individual human beings because of the formation of these stereotypes. Sexual behavior and desire varies from person to person and like all humans, gay people also have sexual needs. The stereotype of them having sex with multiple partners also increases the generalization that all gay people may have AIDS or HIV. According to US statistics, gay people of all races are in fact the most severely affected with HIV but the misconception that they all have AIDS or HIV is wrong. • 9. Diversity In The Workplace Furthermore, the power of context is the things in the environment can change people's behaviors. This will let them know what kinds of actions are properly doing at what time. Lofferda proposes that some higher level people in the society always do not have good behaviors and take advantages of gays, she states that "the Supreme Court upheld a Cincinnati ordinance that denied gays and lesbians legal protection from discrimination in housing, employment, and other public accommodations" (249). This quote shows that even in higher government, the gays cannot get the same treatment like the housing and employees as the other residents. The surroundings around them are really terrible. They cannot get really benefits and advantages from the society or the government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the contrary, Gladwell states "What do you want? Give me five dollars......pull out a chrome– plated, five–shot Smith a Wesson 0.38, firing at each of the four youths in turn" (149) This shows that as the harassment around Goetz, he becomes really angry and annoyed. He does not want to give the four kids money because there is a gun in his pocket. As the environment and kids' behaviors changes, he only can shoot them in order not let them find that he has a gun in his pocket. This shows the environment which can make people have different kinds of decisions and behaviors. If the kids disturb him, the kids may still on the train and do not have danger in their lives. And also states that "The impetus to engage in a certain kind of behavior is not coming from a certain kind of person but from a feature of the environment" (152). This quotes shows that the person does not have great power to change the behaviors. The environment plays a major key role which make people's behaviors get to change. Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in the U.S., said this quote in one of his personal recordings. Harvey Milk is an important figure in history because of his ability to persevere and inspire all those who are a part of the LGBT community. Milk is considered a hero because he refused to let his sexuality get in the way of his dreams and inspired thousands to embrace their sexuality. Harvey Milk was born May 22, 1930 in Woodmere, New York. He was a popular kid in his High School, and did many activities from football to opera. Daniel White was a former San Francisco Board Supervisor who had issues with Milk's sexuality and political decisions. Not to mention, White also killed San Francisco mayor George Moscone just seconds before Milk. Daniel White was only given five years for the assassinations due to the defense that he had depression caused by consuming too much sugar. This was known as the "Twinkie Defense", and was later banned (Cloud). Even though the death was terrible, it caused thousands of gay people to come out in respect to Harvey. Also, there were many gay riots after Daniel White's miniscule conviction. After his death thousands of people had a candlelight vigil in his respects (Cloud). • 13. Gay Adoption Should Be Legal Gay adoption is a touchy subject to a lot of people. Even though gay adoption became legal in all 50 states on June 26, 2017 everyone still seems to have an opinion on the matter and a lot of the opinions lean toward not allowing gay couples to adopt. There are so many children in the foster care system that need loving and stable homes so why not let gay couples give that to them? There is a lot of evidence to show that gay couples can be just as good at parenting as a straight couple. Maybe even better due to them being committed and better motivated because they chose to be parents. No child should be denied parents that will give them a loving and stable home just as no couple should be denied a child due to their sexual preference. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not a single study has found a difference (between children of gay and straight parents) that you can construe as harmful. (Dan Gilgoff, 2005) While the debate continues on whether or not to allow gay couples to adopt, the numbers of children with gay parents keeps increasing. Children with gay parents thrive and continue to do just as well as children in straight homes. However, critics disagree and feel that children living in gay homes are at risk of having an unhappy life. Gregory Rogers, a writer living in South Africa, believes that children in gay homes will have issues that include the instability of homosexual relationships, evidence of widespread pedophilia within the gay community, and the possible psychological and social problems associated with children reared in homes without a mother and a father. Rogers believes it is wrong to trust homosexual couples with the fragile and impressionable development of children.(2013) Even though a lot of people feel the same way that Rogers does, that does not mean that it is true. Statistics have shown that children that are raised by gay parents do just as good as children raised by straight parents. Kerry Hosking, a psychology and metaphysics student said "It is not possible to discriminate against prospective (gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender) parents, without also showing utter disrespect for the thousands of kids who need them so ... Because Christianity is such a huge part of my life I immediately thought I would want to do something based on another religion since I've never really gone out of my religious comfort zone, but for this assignment I chose to go to a gay bar. Examine The part of this experience that was the most compelling to me was almost the sense of community that I felt was just there between the gay community. Like there were a lot of groups of people there that night that didn't even know each other, but you would never guess that by the way they acted like they had been friends for years. Even towards me and my roommate who they didn't know, was just some straight stranger walking in and "observing" them they were so nice and accepting. They were willing to let us into their environment, knowing that we were not a part of it and I felt no judgment or anything. My fears that I had felt earlier in the day before going were put to rest, while some people were unusually friendly to me no girls really tried to hit on me, which was really relieving. Is acceptance of one's sexuality as important as other issues like poverty, unemployment, global warming, natural disasters and proper health solutions for Ebola, Lyme that put our survival itself at risk? When meditating on this question, let us also analyse our own sexual fabric. We set the standards of our own yardsticks to measure a sexual identity as valid/ invalid, normal/ abnormal, natural/ unnatural, acceptable/ unacceptable, moral/ immoral and finally good/ bad. Perhaps, upon these standards we define and adopt a sexual identity that belongs to a privileged position. One tends to overlook these privileges and rights that are available for heterosexual people. On the other hand, the gay and lesbian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The country can proudly claim the progressive and radical shifts made in response to the demands of lgbt community. Why even in the twenty first century people have to fight for equal rights as they encounter discriminations based on sexual attitude and identity in a country that stands for democratic and secular rules? There are many such questions one needs to ponder on, as we try to understand the position of the lgbt community of the US juxtaposing its achievements to the ones made in other countries across the world. Confronting homophobia, eradicating hate crimes and providing equal rights to the lgbt community are all to be considered considerable achievements of the society. The United States has been a country, that has seen innumerable radical movements and fights for lgbt acceptance, presumably progressive as we still have countries that suppress the existence of sexually marginalised community by all means. The argument that sexual orientation is already given and it is biological becomes immaterial, when considering the plethora of sexual cultures that one can find in the US. If gay, lesbian and bisexual people are willing to serve and die for their country, they shouldn't hide their sexual orientation. Gay and lesbian Americans are anxiously willing to serve the country but they also want to reveal their true identity as homosexuals. And for the first time ever, they will be able to openly join the army. Brave men and women currently serving in the army will have the opportunity to come out freely and to be honest with their companions about whom they are and who they love. Therefore, nationalistic Americans in uniform will no longer have to lie about who they are in order to serve the country they love. And the armed forces will no longer lose its remarkable skills and combat experience of so many gay and lesbian service members. Today, every American can be honored that we have taken another great step toward keeping our military the finest in the world and toward fulfilling our nation's founding ideals. Many countries prohibited gays and lesbians from serving openly in the armed forces. The reasons to implement this prohibition, included the hidden negative bounce on unit cohesion and confidential concerns. However, many studies were charged to examine the effects on the military, and found that little evidence existed to support the prejudiced policy. Definition Essay Draft Words are not defined by dictionaries or professors, or officials, but by how people use them, how they are put in to context, through the timeless evolution of meanings. Words can have many different faces, many of which can be powerful or quite weak, others can have a friendly face or a mean one. Sometimes there are words that can start out having a friendly face, but with time society can turn them into a mean face that betrays its former self, words like this exist all across modern social interaction, some can be more prominent than others and promote an ignorant atmosphere as to which we are forced to live in. Gay wasn 't used to replace homosexual as a noun until the twentieth century (Oxford English Dictionary). That was when politics and news corporations used the word to label the homosexual community as gay. In recent events, for example, there have been instances such as the Gay Rights Movement which has been mentioned in media, in turn creates it as a label for homosexuals. So nowadays homosexuals are officially known as gays. Although gay became a technical term in the professional field, at a local level, the word turned away from being a noun and became an adjective, just like in the beginnings of the word; but it had taken on a very different meaning from what it was originally. Gay: adj., stupid, dumb, out of favor. That seems to be how our generation defined this word, it is sad to see that society has come to this, to relate a group of people to the words dumb or stupid. People use this word in many cases that don 't even have any relation to the actual meaning of the word, mostly as a derogatory term or insult. For example, if a student chooses to complain about a homework assignment or how a teacher runs their classroom, they usually will say " Man, this is so gay, I hate this" . To the student, their statement is exactly the same as, " Man, this is so stupid". It is pitiful how this generation has done this to such a word that has so much other meaning behind it. Homosexual couples cannot produce children, so therefore they must adopt if they want children. A homosexual couple who adopts children does not take the children in consideration. • 33. Analysis of Andrew Sullivan´s Article: "Let Gays Marry" Gay Marriage is not Equal Rights In his essay, "Let Gays Marry," Andrew Sullivan advocates gay marriage. He argues that gay couples ought to be able to marry because as citizens, they deserve equal rights. He claims that disallowing gays to marry each other would make them strangers in their own country. However, his argument is invalid as it seeks to impose the broad definition of equality on the narrower, but unrelated issue of marriage. Just because gays have equal rights as citizens, doesn't mean they have the right to marry each other, because homosexual marriage cannot fulfill the biological, sociological, or civil aims of marriage. Sullivan starts by quoting the Supreme Court's declaration that "[a] state cannot deem a class of persons a stranger to its laws" (83), demonstrating that gays and lesbians are entitled to equal rights with other people. He is absolutely right. Gays and lesbians, as citizens, should have equal rights. They do have equal rights. But Sullivan makes a "radical proposal" (Sullivan 83) on the issue. He concludes that, because gays are equal in the view of the law, they should be allowed to marry. True, gays and non–gays are equal under the law. However, individual freedoms are very different from the proposition of gay marriage. When looked at objectively, gays have no less rights then non–gays. This is because any culture that tries to identify and prosecute something as hidden as a secret homosexual identity can only do so by creating a climate of fear and hypocrisy. It must encourage unfounded accusations and it must submit unfairly accused people to brutal and destructive interrogations. In the case of gays, this must be done whether or not the suspected parties recognize themselves as gay or lesbian prior to the interrogations. • 45. Persuasive Essay On Gay Marriage America prides itself in allowing its citizens to manifest their natural born rights. Our founding fathers created documents such as the Constitution granting us our liberties, the main one being the pursuit of happiness. However, throughout history people have faced discrimination due to race, gender, class and sexual orientation. The LGBTQ community has fought to gain their right to marry and won. Many believe that same sex marriage mocks the idea of commitment. Yet, they fail to understand that marriage is not a privilege but a right. Individuals should be able to marry who they love regardless of their gender. Before discussing the idea of gay marriage, I will briefly discuss the many challenges that people of the LGBTQ community have struggled with and the reasons for this. The main reason that the legalization of gay marriage is looked down upon is due to the normalization of heterosexuality. Because heterosexuality dominates society it creates a stigma towards LGBTQ youth. It creates more pressure for them to come out because having feelings for the same sex makes them feel different when in reality they're not. We dont ask straight people to announce their sexuality so why must they? They already deal with internal issues. • 47. Persuasive Essay On Gay Adoption When it comes to gay and lesbian people fighting for the right to adopt children in the United States, this task becomes one of the most difficult feats to accomplish. The difficulties that lesbians and gay people must deal with are religions and states that discriminate on the right for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) to adopt children. The problem when it involves religion is that there are groups of people that strongly believe that a child should be raised by a man and woman and not by a gay or lesbian couple. adding to the fact that some states allow Christian adoption agencies to have the authority to discriminate homosexuals from adopting; for example, when Texas passed the bill "Freedom to Serve Children Act," allowing discrimination against same–sex adoptions on May 08, 2017(Lang). The right for a person to adopt should be allowed to anyone above the age of eighteen. If that individual does not have a record that could endanger a child than he or she should have the right to adopt a child without having religious ideals interfering. Other issues that LGBT face are the financial burdens to become a second parent to an adopted child or significant other's child. These are some issues that need to be improved for the LGBT's rights to become parents. In the United States, there are some states that make it difficult for gay and lesbian couples to adopt children. • 49. Moonlight Movie Analysis At the "Hot Wings and Hot Topics," we watched the movie, Moonlight, which is about a Black American man named Chiron, and takes place in 1980 in Miami. The movie is about 3 parts of Chiron's life; young adolescence, mid–teen, and young adult. The first Chapter is his childhood in which he is known as "Little." He lived in a neighborhood full of crime with his mom who was a drug addict. Little is a little, shy boy who tends to be bullied. He has one friend his age named Chris, and a drug dealer named Juan, who sees how neglected Little is from his mom. Because of this, Juan tries to give as much care to Little, and so does his girlfriend, Teresa, and they allow Chiron to go to their house whenever he needs to get away from the bullying or his mother. The next chapter is "Chiron," and is about his teen life. This is where we learn a little about Chiron's sexuality, and when he begins to stick up for himself towards the end of the chapter. We see peer pressure in this chapter because if affect what Chiron, and his friends are accepted to do. In the third chapter, "Black," we see Chiron all good up, and no longer skinny, but built like a strong man. After leaving Miami, Black is a drug dealer, is no longer weak, but is a drug dealer like Juan. He has a lot of masculinity now with his body, and what he wears. His old friend, Chris, gives him a call to come see him after years, and we are left with them hugging each other. The discussion begins with the end of the movie when ... History Of GLAAD HISTORY GLAAD was formerly known as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.[i] It was founded in New York City in 1985 by Vito Russo, Jewelle Gomez and George Kolovakos.[ii] GLAAD is a media monitoring agency that seeks to promote and protect issues affecting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. The organization was originally founded in response to the New York Post's homophobic and defamatory coverage of the AIDS epidemic, which was at its height in the 1980's. Initially, AIDS was closely linked with gay men within the American psychology.[iii] The first time that AIDS was detected in the United States was in 1981, when groups of men in New York and Los Angeles were diagnosed with Kaposi's sarcoma and pneumocystis pneumonia.[iv] The media had labeled it as a gay disease. Based upon the statistics compiled by the Center for Disease Control, the AIDS virus disproportionately impacted gay men at a time when Americans had an extremely negative attitude towards homosexuality. "[I]t was perhaps inevitable that AIDS would be defined in political and cultural terms as well as medically, and that many heterosexuals' reactions to AIDS would reflect their attitudes toward homosexuality."[v] Thus, the coverage of homosexuals was extremely sensationalized and a topic that was not generally discussed as a societal norm within the mainstream media. Gay Marriage Should Be Legal Tiara Cramm Ms. Lueck English 9–5 May 12, 2015 Gay Marriage Did you know that 52% of the population support gay marriage and 40% of the population do not (Changing Attitudes on Gay Marriage), but what happens with that 8% that doesn't know or doesn't care? What if the 8% could help people be happy. Did you know 10% of the population in the world is gay (Robison)? There are so few gays in our population. Are people just being selfish or do they honestly believe that it's such a bad thing and that having gays could cause problems. I hope in this paper you see what side you want to support and go with. First off I would like to tell you the argument side against gay marriage and why people do not like it and don't want to see it legal. People that think gay marriage is so wrong usually goes off of three things. First is usually the religious side and debates on whether god wants it to be that way and how there are raised is also a factor in the religious side. Second they argue that if adopted a kid or kids that it would mentally hurt the child and could cause damage having parents that are gay and not having both a mother and a father. Third is the people either just don't want to see it or its against everything, this would also combined with the tradition reasons and complaints. this is where people come up with all the reasons why it should be illegal. Most of those reasons can be hurt full and sometimes make no sense. To people that are gay all this comes as an offence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stereotypes In Modern Family, Glee, And Mean Girls Imagine being mocked for who you are and singled out on the way you act and dress–heterosexuals face that problem everyday seeing it broadcasted on shows and movies commonly seen in the genre of drama and comedy. Stereotypes on groups of people affect whether they are true or just a perception. The gay community is discriminated against and has to overcome stereotypes in the media, as seen in Modern Family, Glee, and Mean Girls showing how they are struggling to be represented accurately and positively. Before the 1960's gay men weren't shown in films, plays, shows, etc. but the very first time a homosexual character was aired in a film was in 1962, in the film Advise and Consent (Wood 2007). In a blog by Murray Lipp, she writes the stereotype that "Gay men are not relationship–oriented", this is an unrealistic assumption that gay men do not keep committed relationships but in the show the relationship between Mitch and Cam are in a stable relationship that are supportive of each other(Lipp 2013). Cam and Mitch live together and are loving to each other and are serious about their relationship. It may seem that "Two gay men as a couple can't raise healthy and happy children" stated by Murray Lipp but in the show the couple adopts a baby and are more than capable of being good parents, Cam and Mitch are loving parents to their daughter (Lipp). Cam is being portrayed as feminine and a stereotypical gay man but they also show a side of him as a farmer, football player, and continuing his teaching of music. It is known to be the first gay bar to be opened here in America. Being gay in the 1930s was brutal. Same gender sex was a felony, and being caught in a gay bar could cost someone their job. "In a society that viewed gays as barley human, the White Horse allowed a level of freedom that in the 1940s or 1950s was liberating" (Duffy 2016). With time changes and people being more accepted, gay bars and gay nightclubs started opening all across America. One of the many gay nightclubs here in Denver is known as Tracks. It was opened in 1980. On October 5th, 2017, an experimental observation at the Tracks nightclub was made. During this experience, it was observed that these people that identified as either gay, lesbian, or bisexual were acting as normal human beings in a heterosexual nightclub. Although the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender movement acts have been created to allow this community to be more opened and unafraid, it has had a history of having psychological components such as depression, and social components such as relationships with one another, and of course the history within hate crimes towards the LGBT community. People make them feel guilty because loving another sex is a sin which it is not. Our society thinks children needs a mother and father not a two mothers or two fathers. Before President Obama left office he promised to help the LGBT community to gain their rights and also appeal the DADT. Our government should take more procession with their rights we have hateful people out there and would like to terminate them. In 2016 the military lifted the ban on transgender people. Ladies always wore skirts, people would start speaking in tongues in the service, most members were very closed–minded and, the part that most affected me: being gay was a sin. When I hit middle school, I began to see life outside of my church. People were gay and transgender. I wasn't sure what to think about it. I had been taught that it was a sin, so why were these people so willingly rejecting the Lord? I had avoided it for a very long time– that is, until rumors started. The book was a collection of fourteen short fiction stories written by gay men who talked about homosexual issues within a dominant heterosexual culture. The book, saturated with homosexual ideas, was published at a point in history when homosexuality was utterly taboo and its condemnation was commonplace. Moreover, the rise of the HIV and the AIDS scare, which was peaking at this time, injected fear into the hearts of mainstream Americans, who demonized homosexuality as causing these fatal diseases. Argumentative Statement Against Gay Adoption Gaia Alberti Ms Mathers HN English III 13 November 2017 Gay Adoption "We believe that every child has the right to a loving, nurturing and permanent family, and that people from a variety of life experiences offer strengths for these children" (The Board of Directors of the National Adoption Center). Gay adoption by legal couples has become a rising controversy in the past decade, affecting the lives of many children and families. Around the world there are so many children that need to be adopted and thousand and thousand parents that want to undertake this experience, but they are not allowed because of the law in some countries. These parents have the right to adopt and have done nothing wrong and they have the same ability to grow children as straight couple; yet, they are not allowed to take care of a child that has been abandoned. Still, many people are against gay adoption because they think kids need a mother and a father to have proper male male and female role models. They also believe kids raised by a gay couple are more likely to become gay. This unconstitutional act exists because of prejudices and discrimination. Many organizations wants equal rights for all parents and children and they believe discrimination based on sexual orientation should be stopped. Gays and lesbians should be allowed to adopt because they can be just as good at parenting as straight couple. Let Gays Marry and Leave Marriage Alone Essay I will summarize some of the key points from the essay, Let Gays Marry, by Andrew Sullivan, and the essay, Leave Marriage Alone, by William Bennett. Some of these main points are taken from mutual beliefs of both authors and others are derived from the opposing opinions of the two. The first summary of Andrew Sullivan's essay is a reflection of Andrew Sullivan's stance of the issue. The original essay was in favor of allowing same sex marriage in America. My summary will dictate some of the arguments that I found to be the most persuasive and important to Sullivan's case. The second summary is of Bennett's essay, Leave Marriage Alone. I will, again, try to point out the most influential pieces of argument in the essay. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a basis for these arguments, Sullivan believes that marriage is an important key to the progression of homosexual equality in America. Sullivan is aware of certain churches and religious affiliates that would be in opposition to the marrying of gay couples. Sullivan explains that homosexuals pushing for the permission of gay marriage do not intend to change the doctrines or traditions of any church. The movement's actual desire is the fundamental right to marriage. Sullivan reiterates the hopes of the gay community by expressing their longing for recognition before the law as a married couple. Gays are essentially making the simple request that they be given the same marriage license as any other couple in America who wishes to be married. Advocates of homosexual marriage say they are aiming to strengthen and become a part of the institution. Bennett disagrees and implores that if they were allowed to follow through, and be accepted as an active part of the institution of marriage, they would be, in turn, destroying the very foundations of marriage. Bennett deems that allowing gays to marry would have a profound influence on society. The change from the traditional ideals of marriage would completely redefine the conventional definition of marriage.
