Introduction
Today, marketing plays an important role in business success. "Marketing drives successful
organization, but it is often misinterpreted and sometimes gets bad press" (Jobber and Ellis–
Chadwick, 2013: 4). Peter Drucker stated that "the basic function of marketing is to attract and
retain customers at a profit". On the other hand, British Institute of Marketing (BIM) defines
"Marketing is the management process for identifying, anticipating and satisfying customer
requirements profitably." Along with rapid globalization, changing information technology,
changing consumer profile and intensity of competition, "marketing is more sophisticated than the
past" (Dalgic and Yeniceri, 2013). There are many ways for new products approaching the markets.
Many companies use customer oriented marketing as the main strategy, especially in the context of
the marketing mix for their new products. This assignment will discuss customer orientation and its
implications of two factors of the marketing mix: product and price.
I. Customer orientation in context of marketing mix

Based on understanding about customer behaviour, the companies tend to depend on their created
marketing mix to promote new products, which consists originally four key elements (4Ps) namely
product, price, promotion and place. Today, marketing mix is developed and includes other Ps like

The Field Of Business Marketing
My research for this paper included various online articles in the field of business marketing. In my
research using these sources, I found things that I have never known (Previously didn 't know) about
marketing in the business world. In this process, I found that finding information on my topic has
really gotten me more interested in my major and my topic. This research has really given me a
better insight on starting my research paper. My google search for marketing did not end up as well
as the database search. Most of the results that came from google seemed to be irrelevant and
contained many advertisements, which were also unhelpful. However, when I searched marketing
psychology in google, I found better and more credible results. One of my sources, "The Consumer
Psychologist", (Italicize titles) turned out to be very helpful and seemed to be credible as it was
written by a professor with a Ph.D. Also, it provided a good definition and explanation of consumer
behavior which really helps to understand it. Also, it includes the basic principles of marketing
which does not make it too complicated. So, this showed me that when using google, I will have to
be more specific with my search terms in order to get better and more helpful results. In my
database research, I did not have much success at first. My searches were not turning too many

This subject of advertisement is constantly changing with each passing decade, with the new
technological advancements that are being invented constantly. Half a century ago the only
marketing tools that were used to target children were television and comic books now decade's later
