Annotated Bibliography Angoules, A. G., MD, PhD. (2012, June 13). Agricultural Injuries: A Global Rural Health Problem. Retrieved November 13,
2017, from (–– removed HTML ––) The author of this article, Antonios G. Angoules MD, is currently a member of the Department of Essential
Medical Subjects and the Technological Institute of Athens. Previously, he completed his medical training and residency for orthopaedics and trauma
in Athens. He also completed a fellowship and his PhD in the United Kingdom. Given that Angoules is a member of these medical and technological
institutes, is a medical doctor, and is published by this journal, this source is credible. This journal, the Journal of Trauma and Treatment, is an
internationally published journal with the intended audience of medical professions. This article, unlike most of the other sources, focuses on one
thing rather than a series of things. The topic of this article is agricultural related injuries and their immense presence in rural areas around the globe.
It is very interesting that rural areas in every country has similar issues when it comes to health. Angoules gives statistics collected by national
governments to back his work and uses his own logic as a medical doctor to explain farm–specific injury scenarios. While the author does not take a
particular stance on one thing over the other, he gives solutions on how to prevent these injuries from happening. Compared to other sources, this one

My First Semester Of English
Throughout my first semester of English in college I have gained a significant amount of knowledge in writing. Each writing assignment encouraged
me to use and try new approaches to writing. They also encouraged me to a take my writings a step further than the previous papers I have written
before. My writing is more academic and formal rather than casual and informal. I have taken the tools that I have learned throughout the semester and
articulated those tools into each writing project. With many hours of dedication to my papers as a whole, the time that I spent was a time for learning
and advancing the skills and tools I already had from high school.
I was surprised that the papers were not 12 pages as some previous teachers said that was what I was going to be walking into. Although, 6 pages is
still a lot for me, I felt most of the writing projects were easy to reach the page requirement as they were interesting and fun topics.
Out of the four writing projects that we did, writing project three, the informative and surprising essay, is the one that challenge me the most. It was a
good challenge as I was determined to answer the "How and why is this important to society?" question. That question was hard for me to answer but
will help from my peers and learning through class activities I was able to understand and answer the "Why and how?" question. Before that paper, I
have never had to relate my research to society and write about it. This specific writing project

Plagiarism: Annotated Bibliography
Proper citation is essential in any written work. The format style may be the American Psychological Association (A.P.A.) citation, which emphasizes
authorship, or the Modern Language Association (M.L.A.) citation that emphasizes creation date, or the Chicago Manual of Style (C.M.S.) citation
(Purdue, 2014). Regardless of which format style is required, the proper utilization is important. It is not only necessary to avoid the negative
consequences of plagiarism, but also provides some significant benefits.
Whether one is paraphrasing, summarizing or quoting another's work, proper in text and reference citation is needed. Taking a section of another
source's work and rewriting it into your own words is paraphrasing. Summarizing on the other hand, is presenting your own take on another source's
material, generally condensing the full material into the principle point (Driscoll & Brizee, 2013). Quoting a source, however, is writing someone else's
material using their exact words in quotations. Plagiarism.org (n.d.) recommends to "quote material when you believe the way the original author
expresses an idea is the most effective means of communicating the point you want to make". ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are benefits for properly citing sources beyond solely avoiding a charge of plagiarism, which is a serious offense. Firstly, it confirms that you
have prepared your material with necessary research, and in so doing added support to your position (University Library Service, Cardiff University,
n.d.). It can provide emphasis and clarification to your points. In addition, accurate references "allows the reader to locate the material you consulted"
(U.L.S., Cardiff University, n.d), enabling him to further his own research if

Reflection Paper
Throughout the course of the semester, the portfolio I have created in W233 has helped me gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of the
writing process. Coming into the class, I felt confident in my abilities to write a good research paper. However, looking back on my former self, I
now realize that there is much more to writing well. It is not all about using fancy, grandiloquent vocabulary and reading over drafts and revising and
editing and following a prompt like a robot; writing truly becomes proficient when taking the road less traveled through extensively collecting research,
refining the topic of the paper, analyzing and summarizing research, and showing a commitment to multiple drafts to refine a writing. I came a long
way when I went through this advanced writing process over the semester. I started out with little knowledge of how to mediate an argument
effectively and I went through two research ideas before I finally decided on a topic that I really felt I could discuss. When finally deciding on
negotiating between advocates of GMOs and advocates of organic agriculture, I felt that it would be a pretty simple argument to mediate, but there
ended up being much more to it than I expected. Moving from pre–writing stages and the abstract to the rhetorical analyses to the annotated
bibliography and finally to the negotiation paper, I learned a lot in each phase about my topic and about the writing process. As I previously mentioned,
the pre–writing stages of

Annotated Bibliography Analysis
The annotated bibliography is the second of four main projects in this writing course. I have never done an annotated bibliography before, so this was
a learning experience. The expectations for myself on this assignment was to find good credible sources from the URI libraries database and write
thorough summaries on the main points from each of them. I met most of the expectations where I explained the source material well and why it
correlates to the argument. I formatted the citations well. I think one thing i should have done better to fulfill the expectations completely is to find
better sources that contain data and statistics to support an argument. I learned from this project that credible sources are important and that for an

Citing Sources: Annotated Bibliography
Citing Sources
Citations provide information to help your readers locate the sources you consulted when writing your paper. Some of your instructors will specify
which citation format you should use; others will tell you to choose your own citation format as long as you use it consistently. If your instructor does
not mention citation format at all, you should ask whether a particular format is required. The most common citation formats are MLA (Modern
Language Association) style, which is primarily used for papers in the humanities; APA (American Psychological Association) style, which is primary
used for papers in the social sciences; and Chicago style (The Chicago Manual of Style), which is used for both humanities and social

Examples Of Annotated Bibliography
What is an annotated bibliography? When and why is it used? Also, what are in–text citations and why do we use them? These are a few questions that
we will be addressing in this paper, in addition to many other questions about these topics. Let us start by defining an annotated bibliography. As
mentioned by Bullock et. al, "an annotated bibliography describes and gives publication information for, and sometimes evaluate each work on a list of
sources." (p.66) Additionally, an in–text citation is defined as "a reference made within the body of text of an academic essay" ("What is an in–text
citation?", para. 1) We will discover their purpose, why they are important, how to construct them, and when to use them. "The purpose of anannotated
bibliography is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited." ("Annotated Bibliography," 2007) It can be done in

al, 2017) It can be written in different ways, for example, if the author is mentioned in the sentence, you would put just the page number in parenthesis,
e.g. (263). If not, the parenthesis would include the authors last name and page number, e.g. (Wordsworth 263). Additionally, there are many guidelines
depending on the type of source, what information is available, etc. Therefore, it is best to research certain types of citations when you come across
them.
In conclusion, we learned that the purpose of an annotated bibliography is to summarize or analyze the source used for your research. Additionally,
having an annotated bibliography has many benefits. One example is the assistance in developing the proper thesis statement for your paper. With the
extensive summaries or analyzations, you can use this information to choose the right path for your essay. The length and format of your annotated
bibliography is dependent on the style you chose as well as instructions given for the

Annotated Bibliography Of The Bibliography
1. At the end of Week 6, your annotated bibliography is due. What is an annotated bibliography? How will the annotated bibliography help you as
you write the research paper? Provide an example of one entry from your annotated bibliography including the citation. An annotated bibliography
is a record of citations to books, editorials, and papers. Each citation is followed by a short summation, which are about 150 words by and large,
explanatory and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The intention of the annotation is to enlighten the reader of the importance, exactness, and
excellence of the sources quoted. The annotated bibliography will assist me as I write my research paper is that it will make the writing of the
paper less of a struggle for that it will provide me some edification into making the paper more efficient and fluid. Here's an entry from my

Graduation Speech : My Experience
This class, UWP 104FY, has lead me to realize the areas I struggle in and how I overcame those struggles. When I entered this class, I lacked
practice with writing and was unable to adjust my habits to accommodate the flow of this course. I had not written an essay, except for research
papers, since my fall quarter of freshman year. It was especially hard for me to adjust my time to account for all the activities in the class. Since the
course is a hybrid course, I only had one face–to–face meeting with the class. Half of the class requires self–pace and constant checking of what
needed to be accomplished. With my initial abilities, I was unable to excel in the course. However, as the course progressed, I was able to change some

As I learn about myself more throughout the course, I became more curious about the things I write about. I had originally accepted things as they are
because following is much simpler and easier to do, but as the course progressed, I became more curious and frequently generated new ideas to
incorporate into my writing. When I first started the Annotated Bibliography, the course reader was a great help in outlining a template to follow. The
Annotated Bibliography doesn't require too much thinking, so I merely followed what needed to be done. The Annotated Bibliography still required
knowledge of the general topics I would like to summarize. The summary themselves did not require me to be creative, but the brief assessment of
the entries' usefulness did. The assessment allowed me to connect ideas that I never thought would come together. It was very interesting to make
these connections, and I started to generate more ideas about how I can incorporate these for the Literature Review. However, I did not use these
ideas for my Literature Review because I restricted my topic more towards a specific research question. The Literature Review allowed me to general
new ideas. Reading those articles I have chosen offered me a variety of options to let my ideas flow and integrate with each other. Synthesis of these

Grade Level(s) :4th and 5th grade
OVERVIEW
Students learn about the purposes and techniques of annotation by examining a text closely and critically. They will practice analyzing a sample
annotation and identifying the purpose for annotating an article. Students will then practice annotation through a careful reading of a story excerpt,
using specific guidelines and writing as many annotations as possible. Students then work in pairs to peer review their annotations, practice using a
web tool to annotate a story excerpt on their group level and PowerPoint to present annotations, and reflect on how creating annotations can change a
reader 's perspective through personal connection with text.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the unit 80 % of the students will be able to independently analyze text closely, critically, and carefully examine a text or passage.
Make personal, meaningful connections with text, world and self.

Writing An Annotated Bibliography
Hello Everyone, I have written many papers in my time, but I can say that I've never had to write an annotated bibliography. If I have I completely
forgot what it even was, I guess the name sounds more challenging than what it actually is. Now knowing the use for the annotated bibliography, I
know the great value that it holds when constructing a research paper. It allows you to think on a much deeper level as to where you are getting your
information, also what the level of importunacy for each citation. This much needed detail is what a key to information, people need to know where
information is coming from as well as the reader knowing the purpose. I think that this will make writing my paper an easier process, as I will already

Essay On Annotated Bibliographies
When first brainstorming what topic I was going to pick for each annotated bibliography, it took me a while before I settled on a topic for each
essay. While reflecting on my writing process, I came to the conclusion that more time would have definitely benefited my argument for each of
these annotated bibliographies. If I had more time on each of these essays, I would have looked in more databases to try and find a wider variety of
sources to argue each point. Since I can not search across all the databases at once, I picked out what looked to be the best database for each topic.
For example, my public argument is on abortion, so I went straight to the sociology database. My other argument was about blockchain technology, so I
went do my... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While doing this, I found out that some of the sources were not what I thought they were going to be. For example, one of the sources for my public
argument seemed like it was against abortion, but once I got to the end, I found out that the author was actually for abortion. I had this problem while
writing both of my essays, so I had to go back to the databases to find new sources. I think the most important change I made during the writing
process was changing a few of my sources to ones that would better validate the arguments in each annotated bibliography. After searching within the
database for a while, I was able to find other articles that gave me a wider range of information and statistics to choose from. If I would have not
taken the time to go back and find sources that would better fit my argument, I would have needed to do it later in the writing process of each essay.
Because of this, I went back for both of my annotated bibliographies and replaced some of the sources that I thought were good at first, but after
reading more into them I found that they did not provide me with the evidence I

Personal Reflection
At the beginning of the semester, I set four goals: managing time wisely, enhancing my self–learning ability, improving my listening and adapting to
reading academic journals. Now, I have already achieved all of my goals via the three main course components (Focused Research and Writing,
Seminars and GIS). The most important thing I have learned from Focused Research and Writing is the way of analyzing data and writing an essay
based on those data. Knowing how to analyzing data is very important for us, especially for me. Even though it has not benefited me, I think it will
help me a lot once I study at UIC. My major is Finance, so I need to deal with data very often. We are required to provide some solutions or

As for Seminars, I leaned how to write a CV and an annotated bibliography as well as explain concepts. All of them are useful. Knowing how to write
a CV can help me to apply for schools or jobs. Knowing how to write an annotated bibliography can help me in my academic future at UIC. The most
useful one is concept explanation presentation. When I learned to explain concepts, I got information about how to present in front of people, which
is helpful for me. I did not like public speaking because I thought it was difficult, whereas I started to like presenting for the public because I found it
was not that hard after mastering some skills of presenting. I have learned many skills of presenting. Also, the concept explanation presentations made
contribution to improve my listening. I need to ask the audience questions and give some responses when they ask me questions, which practiced my
listening comprehension. After finishing the study at TIE, I will still work on annotated bibliographies. This is very useful to organize my research. It
can remind me what I have done about my topic. Seminars also helped me enhance the ability of self–learning since we needed to do research by
ourselves before we doing these seminars. For instance, before we wrote in our fields, we needed to read some articles and go through some websites
to learn how to write by ourselves. In terms of GIS, this was the most difficult course component for me, but it also the most beneficial

There is not an author. Since there is no author i can not answer this question. I can tell that this source is well written and ready to argue the position
against the issue because they have a lot of good information about the argumentative issue. This source is found on a website that is called Shark
Online. The intended readers are more for the rodeo people. The people that think rodeo is and isn't abuse. The position being argued here is that rodeo
is abusive to the animals because they claim that when people are doing the events that they hurt the animal. For example, they say that when cowboys
are calf roping or doing break away the are saying that they rope tightens and stays tighten. That is not true what so ever, yes the rope tightens for a
couple seconds then it releases then the calf is let go. The rope is not tight enough where the calf can't breathe.
The writer's stance is that animals are abused in the rodeo. Compared to what my other sources say i have both arguments for this topic. This writer
has probably experienced a rodeo before and seen what happens during it. The first thing that probably came to their head is there hurting the
animals and then they made a article about how it is abusive. This source is not a reliable or an accurate source at all. This website has used pathos.
All they did was put fake stuff up on the website and put pictures and videos up that make rodeo look horrible when it really not.
This article will allow me to argue against their belief that rodeo animals are abused because their information is incorrect and exaggerated.

Annotation Reflection
Over the course of the year, I have annotated countless short stories, articles, reviews, and novels. Coming into the class in September, I had little to
no knowledge of the numerous intricacies that contribute to effectively annotating a piece of written work. Over time, I have learned much more
about how I like to read and write. The constant repetition of annotating articles has helped me to improve the quality of said annotations, to a point
today where I can say I have found the best personal method for annotating so far. This did not come instantly, and was a learning process led by
various assignments, essential questions, and complex articles. The first 'phase' of my annotations experience can be characterized simply as

"American Civilization" by Ralph Waldo Emersonis not only a revolutionary manifesto for its ideas, but was also revolutionary for my annotations.
I experimented with a new method that addressed the problems identified in the past, and it worked wonderfully. I gave a short summary of every
paragraph in the margins, mainly focusing on the essential questions of the unit as well as trying to interpret the meaning of the article. To my
surprise, this was extraordinarily helpful the next day when we discussed the article, because not only did it give me a detailed road map of the
article, it also forced me to closely read each paragraph for its basic meaning and connection to the essential questions. While I had found the method I
liked, I needed to address the problems of actually annotating too much. I annotated too many phrases and summarizing every paragraph was frankly
unnecessary. In my annotations of "On The Duty of Civil Disobedience" by Henry David Thoreau, I employed the same strategies that were used in
"American Civilization," except I amended the problems. My annotating is much more selective, and as a result, the more important phrases stand
out. Also, the short summaries of paragraphs are not on every single one. Only the paragraphs that warrant an explanation are summarized and
explained in order to keep my annotations concise. The two or three most important paragraphs on each page were chosen to be summarized and
explained in regard to the essential questions. They make logical sense out of context, and I can flip to any page in the article and be able to
explain what it is generally about. This fulfills what I am looking for in my annotations; a way to provoke me to think deeper as I am reading as well
as an efficient method of referencing the article after it has been read. This can help me to better

My Ananotating Style
I decided to annotate pages 2 and 3 from our "Writing Analytically" textbook because the contents of those two pages helped me grasp the importance
of analyzing information more. Since the copy of the textbook that I have is an e–book, I was originally going to annotate them on my computer. But I
realized that my annotations on my laptop were very restricted, and were not as in–depth as I would like them to be, so I decided to print out both
pages and annotate them the "old–fashioned" way. My annotating style doesn't have as much structure in comparison to the techniques that others
incorporate, but it has proven fruitful for me so far. To annotate, I used a couple of different items. Among these are blue and pink pens, and a yellow
highlighter.

Classroom Reflection Essay
The classroom was a tall open square filled with around 35 student desks and one large set of desks in the front of the class. The front desks consisted
of smaller desks which included a stand–up desk that held a computer and a smaller but longer desk with a chair. Behind the front desks was as
whiteboard wall that had a projector pointing towards the wall. All of the student's desks were scattered throughout the class and faced the whiteboard
the room has a lot of space, but the number of desks in the room took up most of the walking space. The first student arrived at 5:52. Afterwards nine
others join him, one by one. Two of the students began having a conversation while the others. The discussion between the students stopped shortly
after Mrs. Keener arrived.
Mrs. Keener walks in at 5:56 and greets me. She then makes her way to the front of the room and logs into the IPFW system. The students in the
room stay quiet and focused on other things such as their phones and printed articles as I talk to Mrs. Keener. After she pulls up a power point from
the projector the class begins right at 6:00.
She begins with asking for students to get their writer's notebooks out and answer the question that was on the whiteboard: "(When it comes to
Literature Review versus Annotated Bibliography) Which do you do and why? What do you understand to be the difference between these two
mediums. Please respond to this question in your writer's notebook." Keener also mentioned that she would be

Almonaitiene, J. (2011). Motivating Employees in Small and Medium Business Enterprises in the Context of Intense Workforce Emigration. Social
Sciences, 72(2), 7–15.
Based the Hertzberg's Hygiene and Motivating theory, the author of this article collects data showing that the incomplete motivators may be the
reasons why the workers and employees are not satisfied at work and decide to leave and emigrate. Data also show that opinions concerning hygiene
and motivating factors are very different amongst the employees with different age, educational level and work position. In general, Almonaitiene's
research matches Hertzberg's dual factor theory. In order to retain employees, employers need to find out what are the hygiene and motivating factors
for different employees. This research helps my essay in small business motivation issues and provide suggestions on motivating factors in small
businesses.

In this paper by Schaltegger and Burritt (2015) explored links between different ethical motivations and kinds of corporate social responsibility (CSR)

Literary Analysis Of Nick Otten's 'Beyond The Yellow...
1)Nick Otten writes "How and Why to Annotate a Book" for an audience of students, whereas "Beyond the Yellow Highlighter" is written by Carol
Porter–O'Donnell as a resource for teachers. Otten addresses "readers," "students," and "you" during the introduction thus identifying his audience of
students as though he is presenting a verbal speech. In contrast, O'Donnell writes from personal experience to share her methods of teaching with her
fellow teachers. For example, she writes "Before teaching annotating, we ask that students . . ." The use of the pronoun "we" shows the connection
O'Donnell feels with her audience of other teachers. Ironically, Otten addresses students and writes about teachers in third person while O'Donnell does
the opposite– addresses teachers and writes about students in third person. Because each article is written for a different audience, one can gain a better
understanding for the subject of annotating through contrasting perspectives. 2)The general purpose of both authors is to provide a resource that
defines, states the purpose of, and explains annotating. "How and Why to Annotate a Book" and "Beyond the Yellow Highlighter: Teaching Annotation
Skills to Improve Reading Comprehension" are both titles that explicitly state the author's purpose. Otten provides steps and tips for students to inform
them how and why they should annotate, whilst O'Donnell gives a more in depth analysis of the importance of annotating. She also writes to persuade

Annotate Makes You Annotate
Have you ever tried annotating? Annotating is the act of adding notes or comments to a text. I do like it and think it's a good way to stay connected
with the book but I happen to not use it that often. When annotating, it sometimes takes me a little to think about what I want to write and that adds a
lot of time to reading. When you annotate it starts to take too long to write and think about what to write and I really just don't enjoy doing that
because I think it takes too long. My freshman year in English, I had to read the book Great Expectations and we had to annotate everything and it
already took a long time to read that book so it took another 30min every day to just annotate and I really didn't like doing that but on the test it

In the beginning, the writers present the process of the research conducted by the MIT researchers and conclusions that showed how even a low
carbon tax would be effective at lowering carbon emissions. The writers continue the article by pointing out the effects of different policies, relating
to the revenue created from a carbon tax, on corporations and lower income households. Finally, the writers draw attention to the fact that this carbon
tax will greatly influence the effects of global warming. This article was written for Americans and is a solution that is perfect for the political
spectrum of any government institution within the United States. The article addresses ways that a carbon tax can be used to please both liberals and
conservatives. Though the writers did not conduct their own research, they did cite a study conducted by university researchers and a government
organization and use interviews with key researchers in the study. Though this article cites only one research study, the idea of a carbon tax is still a
viable solution and it will be used in my research to show that there is a viable solution to the problem of air

Rhetorical Analysis Of Beowulf
During the first marking period of the school year, the concepts that have been taught was how to do annotations and we covered the literary work,
Beowulf. When the topic of annotations was taught I learned how to annotate a text, which basically is marking up a text with questions, pointing out
interesting pieces. When learning to annotate I also learned about rhetoric. Rhetoric is the way of speaking or writing persuasively, and an author's
rhetoric can be found using the rhetorical triangle. The rhetorical triangle is a triangle used to answer the following questions: Who created the text,
who did they create the text for and why did they create this text? The audience is who the message is for, and may include a specific age or gender
to get the author's purpose across. The rhetorical appeals that might be used by an author to get his or her message across would be appealing to the
audiences ethos, logos, and pathos. Ethos is the perception of credibility, trustworthiness, and characteristics, pathos is the emotional appeal and logos
is the perception of logic given off by the author. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

century and the poem was set in an earlier time period of 500 A.D. The poem also includes a lot of references to Christianity, but the characters and

Annotated Bibliography: The Indian Removal Act Of 1830
Research Overview When doing my annotated bibliography I had to go through many steps. First, I had to choose a topic of interest from 1492 to
1865. I decided on the topic the Indian Removal Act of 1830 because it seemed very fascinating to me and had a lot of information to read about and
learn from. The next step I had to do was come up with a well–written research question and thesis statement that would help me understand what I
would be looking for in my topic. After choosing my thesis and research question I was now ready to research more about my topic by going to the
library and finding many interesting secondary sources to help me write my annotated bibliography. I found two secondary source books at the library,

Not many people knew that the process that was carried out by the Jackson administration disrupted the agreements made by Congress that authorized
the removal. Historians often misunderstand and misinterpret the requirements of this law. For example a writer in 1830's claimed that the United
States Congress passed a ruling authorizing use of the military force to require the relocation of all native people east of the Mississippi River. The
Indian Removal Act passed by Congress in 1830 neither authorized the individual repeal of treaties guaranteeing Native American land rights within the
states, nor the forced relocation of the eastern Indians. Yet both occurred, on a massive scale, during and immediately following Andrew Jackson's
administration and were the result, not of an explicit congressional authorization, but of an abuse of presidential

Essay On Annotated Bibliography
I found that creating an annotated bibliography was incredibly useful and important in helping me organize my research. The assignment forced
me to keep track of my sources. I like to scan through journals quickly and take notes on what information I'd like to revisit based on titles and
headlines. My method is great for finding research, but the downside is that I can sometimes lose track of the properly cited source for the
information. I think this is incredibly valuable because of the real problems that exist due to plagiarism. As I was researching, I looked only at two
initial items to determine if I would continue to investigate the article. I wanted to see if the authors had graduate degrees and if the article (or other
information) was published in an academic journal or respectively similar format. In some sense, I took a breadth first approach to collecting
information. I then went into a deeper search for credibility after I had compiled a list of twelve or more articles. I looked at the references and... Show

The study was conducted in India and it was full of interesting evidence for linking children's food preferences and even levels of attachment to food
based on viewing advertisments on television. The problem was that all of the authors listed did not immediately appear to have academic degrees. In
fact – no affiliations, references, accreditations, or degrees were listed. I was really upset about this because I enjoyed reading the abstract and first
page of the article. I discarded the article, but not because I didn't think the information was accurate and scientifically valid. I felt that the extra time
spent validating the authors credentials would impede other avenues of fruitful research. I also felt that if this one article came to such conclusions, that
certainly authentic and visibly credible research exists to say the same thing or disprove

Analyzing Multiple Perspectives
From an early age I have been passionate about reading. Like seriously, when I was five years old I was upset that I didn't get the newest Little
Mermaid book for Christmas. However, I have never had an interest in writing. Unfortunately, as I plan to go to graduate school to obtain my Ph.D, I
really cannot avoid it. Over the years, my lack of enthusiasm about writing has caused me to view most English classes as a chore, something I needed
to do in order to advance to what I really wanted to do with my life. With the risk of sounding like a suck–up, this is one of the first English classes I
have valued because I have felt like I improved some aspect of my writing in each essay.
One of the biggest take–aways I have had is how to write a proper conclusion. This can best be seen in the changes ... Show more content on

strong my introduction is. Although my annotated bibliographies will probably not be as detailed if I am not turning them in for a grade, I will most
likely utilize them in other classes to provide a direction for my research and save time in the long

An annotated bibliography is similar to a bibliography with one significant difference: an annotated bibliography has an evaluative paragraph after each

Difference Between Pinterest And Annotated Bibliography
Juxtaposing research via pinterest and annotated bibliography, taught me how social media can be used as an academic resource and how to
adequately identify credible sources for an annotated bibliography. Also learning to use databases made it easy to find and identify reliable scholarly
sources. Though I was familiar with citing sources, I had always used a web–based citation formulator. Therefore learning MLA 8th edition was a
completely new experience. The rigidity and technicality used to scare me, but the system makes sense now that I have a comprehensive
understanding. While learning to create an annotated bibliography, I encountered a few mechanical errors. I did not use a hanging indent for the

The expository writing style for the annotated bibliography asks the researcher to explain the article/source while developing its credibility. In the
academic world this allows other colleagues to pinpoint where certain information was collected. The writing within the entry is direct, lacking the
color or vibrancy of the Pinterest board. The writing style for Pinterest is hard to narrow down as a variety of media can be pinned. However, if we
look directly at our classes' board we can see that the style communicates the information in a linguistically brief and concise manner, while the visuals
do most of the explanation. In the bibliography there are no visuals, forcing the reader to rely solely on the annotated explanation.
The information in an annotated bibliography is built upon scholarly review and recognition by those in a similar designated field of study. In
Pinterest, the first pins on the board set the tone, and the floodgates open for a rush of ideas. This collaborative nature allows the research to move as
a group conversation among individuals of all backgrounds . Given the popular appeal and brevity of Pinterest's language, it may not be applicable for
very specific topics. (I'm researching the American state of awareness in regards to their

The article, "Annotated Bibliography: Why You Should Prepare One" entails information on the elements of an annotated bibliography and the
advantages to creating one. To start, the article describes the author's experience in using annotated bibliographies, with the author describing
explaining how they used annotated bibliographies before they even knew what one was. Next, the author explains components of annotated
bibliographies and instructions on creating a concise annotation. Finally, the article elaborates on the benefits of writing an annotated bibliography.
First, the article begins with the framework of an annotated bibliography. Similar to how Allyn and Bacon interprets annotations, the article says to
include at least the article's central thesis, a summary of the source's main arguments, and how this is relevant to your topic. I enjoyed the way this

  • 1. Annotated Bibliography In Annotated Bibliography Annotated Bibliography Angoules, A. G., MD, PhD. (2012, June 13). Agricultural Injuries: A Global Rural Health Problem. Retrieved November 13, 2017, from (–– removed HTML ––) The author of this article, Antonios G. Angoules MD, is currently a member of the Department of Essential Medical Subjects and the Technological Institute of Athens. Previously, he completed his medical training and residency for orthopaedics and trauma in Athens. He also completed a fellowship and his PhD in the United Kingdom. Given that Angoules is a member of these medical and technological institutes, is a medical doctor, and is published by this journal, this source is credible. This journal, the Journal of Trauma and Treatment, is an internationally published journal with the intended audience of medical professions. This article, unlike most of the other sources, focuses on one thing rather than a series of things. The topic of this article is agricultural related injuries and their immense presence in rural areas around the globe. It is very interesting that rural areas in every country has similar issues when it comes to health. Angoules gives statistics collected by national governments to back his work and uses his own logic as a medical doctor to explain farm–specific injury scenarios. While the author does not take a particular stance on one thing over the other, he gives solutions on how to prevent these injuries from happening. Compared to other sources, this one is unique but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. My First Semester Of English Throughout my first semester of English in college I have gained a significant amount of knowledge in writing. Each writing assignment encouraged me to use and try new approaches to writing. They also encouraged me to a take my writings a step further than the previous papers I have written before. My writing is more academic and formal rather than casual and informal. I have taken the tools that I have learned throughout the semester and articulated those tools into each writing project. With many hours of dedication to my papers as a whole, the time that I spent was a time for learning and advancing the skills and tools I already had from high school. I was surprised that the papers were not 12 pages as some previous teachers said that was what I was going to be walking into. Although, 6 pages is still a lot for me, I felt most of the writing projects were easy to reach the page requirement as they were interesting and fun topics. Out of the four writing projects that we did, writing project three, the informative and surprising essay, is the one that challenge me the most. It was a good challenge as I was determined to answer the "How and why is this important to society?" question. That question was hard for me to answer but will help from my peers and learning through class activities I was able to understand and answer the "Why and how?" question. Before that paper, I have never had to relate my research to society and write about it. This specific writing project ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Plagiarism: Annotated Bibliography Proper citation is essential in any written work. The format style may be the American Psychological Association (A.P.A.) citation, which emphasizes authorship, or the Modern Language Association (M.L.A.) citation that emphasizes creation date, or the Chicago Manual of Style (C.M.S.) citation (Purdue, 2014). Regardless of which format style is required, the proper utilization is important. It is not only necessary to avoid the negative consequences of plagiarism, but also provides some significant benefits. Whether one is paraphrasing, summarizing or quoting another's work, proper in text and reference citation is needed. Taking a section of another source's work and rewriting it into your own words is paraphrasing. Summarizing on the other hand, is presenting your own take on another source's material, generally condensing the full material into the principle point (Driscoll & Brizee, 2013). Quoting a source, however, is writing someone else's material using their exact words in quotations. Plagiarism.org (n.d.) recommends to "quote material when you believe the way the original author expresses an idea is the most effective means of communicating the point you want to make". ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are benefits for properly citing sources beyond solely avoiding a charge of plagiarism, which is a serious offense. Firstly, it confirms that you have prepared your material with necessary research, and in so doing added support to your position (University Library Service, Cardiff University, n.d.). It can provide emphasis and clarification to your points. In addition, accurate references "allows the reader to locate the material you consulted" (U.L.S., Cardiff University, n.d), enabling him to further his own research if ... • 4. Reflection Paper Throughout the course of the semester, the portfolio I have created in W233 has helped me gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of the writing process. Coming into the class, I felt confident in my abilities to write a good research paper. However, looking back on my former self, I now realize that there is much more to writing well. It is not all about using fancy, grandiloquent vocabulary and reading over drafts and revising and editing and following a prompt like a robot; writing truly becomes proficient when taking the road less traveled through extensively collecting research, refining the topic of the paper, analyzing and summarizing research, and showing a commitment to multiple drafts to refine a writing. I came a long way when I went through this advanced writing process over the semester. I started out with little knowledge of how to mediate an argument effectively and I went through two research ideas before I finally decided on a topic that I really felt I could discuss. When finally deciding on negotiating between advocates of GMOs and advocates of organic agriculture, I felt that it would be a pretty simple argument to mediate, but there ended up being much more to it than I expected. Moving from pre–writing stages and the abstract to the rhetorical analyses to the annotated bibliography and finally to the negotiation paper, I learned a lot in each phase about my topic and about the writing process. As I previously mentioned, the pre–writing stages of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Annotated Bibliography Analysis The annotated bibliography is the second of four main projects in this writing course. I have never done an annotated bibliography before, so this was a learning experience. The expectations for myself on this assignment was to find good credible sources from the URI libraries database and write thorough summaries on the main points from each of them. I met most of the expectations where I explained the source material well and why it correlates to the argument. I formatted the citations well. I think one thing i should have done better to fulfill the expectations completely is to find better sources that contain data and statistics to support an argument. I learned from this project that credible sources are important and that for an annotations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of your instructors will specify which citation format you should use; others will tell you to choose your own citation format as long as you use it consistently. If your instructor does not mention citation format at all, you should ask whether a particular format is required. The most common citation formats are MLA (Modern Language Association) style, which is primarily used for papers in the humanities; APA (American Psychological Association) style, which is primary used for papers in the social sciences; and Chicago style (The Chicago Manual of Style), which is used for both humanities and social ... • 7. Examples Of Annotated Bibliography What is an annotated bibliography? When and why is it used? Also, what are in–text citations and why do we use them? These are a few questions that we will be addressing in this paper, in addition to many other questions about these topics. Let us start by defining an annotated bibliography. As mentioned by Bullock et. al, "an annotated bibliography describes and gives publication information for, and sometimes evaluate each work on a list of sources." (p.66) Additionally, an in–text citation is defined as "a reference made within the body of text of an academic essay" ("What is an in–text citation?", para. 1) We will discover their purpose, why they are important, how to construct them, and when to use them. "The purpose of anannotated bibliography is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited." ("Annotated Bibliography," 2007) It can be done in one of two ... If not, the parenthesis would include the authors last name and page number, e.g. (Wordsworth 263). Additionally, there are many guidelines depending on the type of source, what information is available, etc. Therefore, it is best to research certain types of citations when you come across them. In conclusion, we learned that the purpose of an annotated bibliography is to summarize or analyze the source used for your research. Additionally, having an annotated bibliography has many benefits. One example is the assistance in developing the proper thesis statement for your paper. With the extensive summaries or analyzations, you can use this information to choose the right path for your essay. How will the annotated bibliography help you as you write the research paper? Provide an example of one entry from your annotated bibliography including the citation. An annotated bibliography is a record of citations to books, editorials, and papers. Each citation is followed by a short summation, which are about 150 words by and large, explanatory and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. When I entered this class, I lacked practice with writing and was unable to adjust my habits to accommodate the flow of this course. I had not written an essay, except for research papers, since my fall quarter of freshman year. It was especially hard for me to adjust my time to account for all the activities in the class. Since the course is a hybrid course, I only had one face–to–face meeting with the class. Half of the class requires self–pace and constant checking of what needed to be accomplished. As I learn about myself more throughout the course, I became more curious about the things I write about. I had originally accepted things as they are because following is much simpler and easier to do, but as the course progressed, I became more curious and frequently generated new ideas to incorporate into my writing. When I first started the Annotated Bibliography, the course reader was a great help in outlining a template to follow. The Annotated Bibliography doesn't require too much thinking, so I merely followed what needed to be done. The Annotated Bibliography still required knowledge of the general topics I would like to summarize. The summary themselves did not require me to be creative, but the brief assessment of the entries' usefulness did. The assessment allowed me to connect ideas that I never thought would come together. It was very interesting to make these connections, and I started to generate more ideas about how I can incorporate these for the Literature Review. However, I did not use these ideas for my Literature Review because I restricted my topic more towards a specific research question. The Literature Review allowed me to general new ideas. Reading those articles I have chosen offered me a variety of options to let my ideas flow and integrate with each other. Synthesis of these literature requires curiosity and the ability to generate new ideas. I struggled with synthesizing the materials, but I enjoyed making ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If I have I completely forgot what it even was, I guess the name sounds more challenging than what it actually is. Now knowing the use for the annotated bibliography, I know the great value that it holds when constructing a research paper. It allows you to think on a much deeper level as to where you are getting your information, also what the level of importunacy for each citation. • 14. Essay On Annotated Bibliographies When first brainstorming what topic I was going to pick for each annotated bibliography, it took me a while before I settled on a topic for each essay. While reflecting on my writing process, I came to the conclusion that more time would have definitely benefited my argument for each of these annotated bibliographies. If I had more time on each of these essays, I would have looked in more databases to try and find a wider variety of sources to argue each point. Since I can not search across all the databases at once, I picked out what looked to be the best database for each topic. For example, my public argument is on abortion, so I went straight to the sociology database. My other argument was about blockchain technology, so I went do my... For example, one of the sources for my public argument seemed like it was against abortion, but once I got to the end, I found out that the author was actually for abortion. I had this problem while writing both of my essays, so I had to go back to the databases to find new sources. I think the most important change I made during the writing process was changing a few of my sources to ones that would better validate the arguments in each annotated bibliography. After searching within the database for a while, I was able to find other articles that gave me a wider range of information and statistics to choose from. If I would have not taken the time to go back and find sources that would better fit my argument, I would have needed to do it later in the writing process of each essay. Because of this, I went back for both of my annotated bibliographies and replaced some of the sources that I thought were good at first, but after reading more into them I found that they did not provide me with the evidence I ... Personal Reflection At the beginning of the semester, I set four goals: managing time wisely, enhancing my self–learning ability, improving my listening and adapting to reading academic journals. Now, I have already achieved all of my goals via the three main course components (Focused Research and Writing, Seminars and GIS). The most important thing I have learned from Focused Research and Writing is the way of analyzing data and writing an essay based on those data. Knowing how to analyzing data is very important for us, especially for me. Even though it has not benefited me, I think it will help me a lot once I study at UIC. As for Seminars, I leaned how to write a CV and an annotated bibliography as well as explain concepts. All of them are useful. Knowing how to write a CV can help me to apply for schools or jobs. Knowing how to write an annotated bibliography can help me in my academic future at UIC. The most useful one is concept explanation presentation. When I learned to explain concepts, I got information about how to present in front of people, which is helpful for me. I did not like public speaking because I thought it was difficult, whereas I started to like presenting for the public because I found it was not that hard after mastering some skills of presenting. I have learned many skills of presenting. Also, the concept explanation presentations made contribution to improve my listening. I need to ask the audience questions and give some responses when they ask me questions, which practiced my listening comprehension. After finishing the study at TIE, I will still work on annotated bibliographies. This is very useful to organize my research. It can remind me what I have done about my topic. Seminars also helped me enhance the ability of self–learning since we needed to do research by ourselves before we doing these seminars. For instance, before we wrote in our fields, we needed to read some articles and go through some websites to learn how to write by ourselves. Retrieved October 30, 2017, from http://www.sharkonline.org/index.php/animal–cruelty/rodeo–cruelty /cruel–sports/rodeos/ There is not an author. Since there is no author i can not answer this question. I can tell that this source is well written and ready to argue the position against the issue because they have a lot of good information about the argumentative issue. This source is found on a website that is called Shark Online. The intended readers are more for the rodeo people. The people that think rodeo is and isn't abuse. The position being argued here is that rodeo is abusive to the animals because they claim that when people are doing the events that they hurt the animal. For example, they say that when cowboys are calf roping or doing break away the are saying that they rope tightens and stays tighten. That is not true what so ever, yes the rope tightens for a couple seconds then it releases then the calf is let go. The rope is not tight enough where the calf can't breathe. The writer's stance is that animals are abused in the rodeo. Compared to what my other sources say i have both arguments for this topic. This writer has probably experienced a rodeo before and seen what happens during it. The first thing that probably came to their head is there hurting the animals and then they made a article about how it is abusive. Jennifer Ryan | Mar 05, 2013. (2013, June 17). • 18. Annotation Reflection Over the course of the year, I have annotated countless short stories, articles, reviews, and novels. Coming into the class in September, I had little to no knowledge of the numerous intricacies that contribute to effectively annotating a piece of written work. Over time, I have learned much more about how I like to read and write. The constant repetition of annotating articles has helped me to improve the quality of said annotations, to a point today where I can say I have found the best personal method for annotating so far. This did not come instantly, and was a learning process led by various assignments, essential questions, and complex articles. The first 'phase' of my annotations experience can be characterized simply as unorganized.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "American Civilization" by Ralph Waldo Emersonis not only a revolutionary manifesto for its ideas, but was also revolutionary for my annotations. I experimented with a new method that addressed the problems identified in the past, and it worked wonderfully. I gave a short summary of every paragraph in the margins, mainly focusing on the essential questions of the unit as well as trying to interpret the meaning of the article. To my surprise, this was extraordinarily helpful the next day when we discussed the article, because not only did it give me a detailed road map of the article, it also forced me to closely read each paragraph for its basic meaning and connection to the essential questions. While I had found the method I liked, I needed to address the problems of actually annotating too much. I annotated too many phrases and summarizing every paragraph was frankly unnecessary. In my annotations of "On The Duty of Civil Disobedience" by Henry David Thoreau, I employed the same strategies that were used in "American Civilization," except I amended the problems. My annotating is much more selective, and as a result, the more important phrases stand out. Also, the short summaries of paragraphs are not on every single one. Only the paragraphs that warrant an explanation are summarized and explained in order to keep my annotations concise. The two or three most important paragraphs on each page were chosen to be summarized and explained in regard to the essential questions. They make logical sense out of context, and I can flip to any page in the article and be able to explain what it is generally about. This fulfills what I am looking for in my annotations; a way to provoke me to think deeper as I am reading as well as an efficient method of referencing the article after it has been read. • 28. Literary Analysis Of Nick Otten's 'Beyond The Yellow... 1)Nick Otten writes "How and Why to Annotate a Book" for an audience of students, whereas "Beyond the Yellow Highlighter" is written by Carol Porter–O'Donnell as a resource for teachers. Otten addresses "readers," "students," and "you" during the introduction thus identifying his audience of students as though he is presenting a verbal speech. In contrast, O'Donnell writes from personal experience to share her methods of teaching with her fellow teachers. For example, she writes "Before teaching annotating, we ask that students . . ." The use of the pronoun "we" shows the connection O'Donnell feels with her audience of other teachers. Ironically, Otten addresses students and writes about teachers in third person while O'Donnell does the opposite– addresses teachers and writes about students in third person. Because each article is written for a different audience, one can gain a better understanding for the subject of annotating through contrasting perspectives. 2)The general purpose of both authors is to provide a resource that defines, states the purpose of, and explains annotating. "How and Why to Annotate a Book" and "Beyond the Yellow Highlighter: Teaching Annotation Skills to Improve Reading Comprehension" are both titles that explicitly state the author's purpose. Otten provides steps and tips for students to inform them how and why they should annotate, whilst O'Donnell gives a more in depth analysis of the importance of annotating. I do like it and think it's a good way to stay connected with the book but I happen to not use it that often. When annotating, it sometimes takes me a little to think about what I want to write and that adds a lot of time to reading. When you annotate it starts to take too long to write and think about what to write and I really just don't enjoy doing that because I think it takes too long. My freshman year in English, I had to read the book Great Expectations and we had to annotate everything and it already took a long time to read that book so it took another 30min every day to just annotate and I really didn't like doing that but on the test it ... When the topic of annotations was taught I learned how to annotate a text, which basically is marking up a text with questions, pointing out interesting pieces. When learning to annotate I also learned about rhetoric. Rhetoric is the way of speaking or writing persuasively, and an author's rhetoric can be found using the rhetorical triangle. The rhetorical triangle is a triangle used to answer the following questions: Who created the text, who did they create the text for and why did they create this text? The audience is who the message is for, and may include a specific age or gender to get the author's purpose across. The rhetorical appeals that might be used by an author to get his or her message across would be appealing to the audiences ethos, logos, and pathos. • 36. Essay On Annotated Bibliography I found that creating an annotated bibliography was incredibly useful and important in helping me organize my research. The assignment forced me to keep track of my sources. I like to scan through journals quickly and take notes on what information I'd like to revisit based on titles and headlines. My method is great for finding research, but the downside is that I can sometimes lose track of the properly cited source for the information. I think this is incredibly valuable because of the real problems that exist due to plagiarism. As I was researching, I looked only at two initial items to determine if I would continue to investigate the article. I wanted to see if the authors had graduate degrees and if the article (or other information) was published in an academic journal or respectively similar format. In some sense, I took a breadth first approach to collecting information. I then went into a deeper search for credibility after I had compiled a list of twelve or more articles. Over the years, my lack of enthusiasm about writing has caused me to view most English classes as a chore, something I needed to do in order to advance to what I really wanted to do with my life. With the risk of sounding like a suck–up, this is one of the first English classes I have valued because I have felt like I improved some aspect of my writing in each essay. One of the biggest take–aways I have had is how to write a proper conclusion. This can best be seen in the changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My first semester I had to write a literature review which was a similar process to this paper. Unfortunately, I really had no idea how to write one and spent a ton of unnecessary time finding articles and then trying to remember what they were on. This was my first time doing an annotated bibliography and it helped me tremendously. Through the annotated bibliography, I learned how to properly organize my research. I think this is evident in how strong my introduction is. Although my annotated bibliographies will probably not be as detailed if I am not turning them in for a grade, I will most likely utilize them in other classes to provide a direction for my research and save time in the long ... • 38. A Survivor's Story Angela Goodwin-Slater An annotated bibliography is a list of available references to books, articles, and documents. Each reference is followed by a brief description of the content, quality, and relevance of the source this is the annotation. An annotated bibliography is similar to a bibliography with one significant difference: an annotated bibliography has an evaluative paragraph after each reference. In her article "A survivor's story" Angela Goodwin–Slater (2013) claims that the effect of child abuse on her was mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse, low self–esteem and possible tendencies of being a child abuser. Goodwin–slater goes further to say that her mother developed this abusive nature from an abusive grandparent. She tries to point out that child abuse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Difference Between Pinterest And Annotated Bibliography Juxtaposing research via pinterest and annotated bibliography, taught me how social media can be used as an academic resource and how to adequately identify credible sources for an annotated bibliography. Also learning to use databases made it easy to find and identify reliable scholarly sources. Though I was familiar with citing sources, I had always used a web–based citation formulator. Therefore learning MLA 8th edition was a completely new experience. The rigidity and technicality used to scare me, but the system makes sense now that I have a comprehensive understanding. While learning to create an annotated bibliography, I encountered a few mechanical errors. I did not use a hanging indent for the bibliography and thus had to learn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The expository writing style for the annotated bibliography asks the researcher to explain the article/source while developing its credibility. In the academic world this allows other colleagues to pinpoint where certain information was collected. The writing within the entry is direct, lacking the color or vibrancy of the Pinterest board. The writing style for Pinterest is hard to narrow down as a variety of media can be pinned. However, if we look directly at our classes' board we can see that the style communicates the information in a linguistically brief and concise manner, while the visuals do most of the explanation. In the bibliography there are no visuals, forcing the reader to rely solely on the annotated explanation. The information in an annotated bibliography is built upon scholarly review and recognition by those in a similar designated field of study. In Pinterest, the first pins on the board set the tone, and the floodgates open for a rush of ideas. This collaborative nature allows the research to move as a group conversation among individuals of all backgrounds . Given the popular appeal and brevity of Pinterest's language, it may not be applicable for very specific topics. (I'm researching the American state of awareness in regards to their ... • 41. Personal Narrative: My Experience With Annotating What is your experience with annotating? Do you think it benefits you if you're being graded on it? And is it needed? In particular I would rather do less annotating than others would. It is helpful at times but not when I feel I have to be graded on it. It brings stress to me and I rush through the book to get annotations in. Annotating is beneficial when you need help to understand your section. Annotating what I struggle with, not what others think is difficult helps me customize my book to my benefit. It's about helping you understand your reading and helps you out. Being graded on annotating puts extra stress on students who already are having a hard time understanding the book they're reading. People learn in many different ways, some ...
