2. MY TOWN – SPIŠSKÁ NOVÁ VES
• I live in Spišská Nová Ves. It is a district town located in
Košice region. The town has approximately 38 000
inhabitants of mainly Slovak nationality, who live in an area
of 66,67 km². It is situated on the main railway line Košice-
Bratislava with connections to the Czech Republic, Austria,
Hungary, Poland and Ukraine. Natural beauties of the
Slovak Paradise Natural Park, located in close
surroundings, are an addition to many historically
remarkable objects. Many of them are situated in the
lenticular square (Town Hall Square – Radničné námestie)
which is ranked among the most beautiful in Slovakia and
the longest of its kind in Europe.

3. TOWN SYMBOLS
• Town escutcheon - In the blue shield from the middle of three green hills
grow three gold roses with leafy stems, on the side of the hills are two
silver mining hammers.
• Town flag – The current flag of the town Spišská Nová Ves has got four
longitudinal stripes of equal width of colors in the following order:
• Yellow - the color of the roses, as a substitute for gold,
• Green - the color of three hills and stems of roses,
• White - the color of mining hammers, as a substitute for silver,
• Blue - the color of the shield box.

5. ROMAN-CATHOLIC PARISH CHURCH
OF THE VIRGIN MARY´S ASSUMPTION
• The parish church belongs to the most valuable monuments
in the town. Part of the architecture of the church from the
14th century is preserved in its original condition to this day.
• A neo-gothic church tower with a height of 87 metres was
built between the years 1892-1893. It is the highest church
tower in Slovakia. On its four sides there are seven clocks
run by a single clock mechanism.
• The tower provides outstanding views of the town and its
surroundings. On the tower, there are four wooden
sculptures of the Evangelists with a height of 3,25 m and
weight of 800 kg.
6. SLOVAK PARADISE
• Slovak Paradise is located in eastern Slovakia in the Spiš
region. It is considered one of the most beautiful natural
areas in Slovakia. Areas of the mountain range of Slovak
Paradise protects the Slovak Paradise National Park, which
is one of nine national parks in Slovakia.
• Slovak Paradise has an area of about 210 km² in the district
Spišská Nová Ves, Rožňava and Poprad. It is crossed by
the river Hornád and Hnilec. Forests cover 90% area of the
park.
• In the Slovak Paradise we can find the wolf, lynx, fox,
golden eagle, hawk and falcon.
