2. • Bulgaria is a country with
thousands of years of history,
which is evident by the multiple
remains of necropolises, antique
towns and tomb stones. No
doubt some of the most
interesting proofs of life are the
multiple golden and silver
treasures, found in various parts
of Bulgaria. A number of them
provoke serious international
interest and carry important
information about ancient
civilizations on present
Bulgarian lands.
3. The Gold Treasure of Valchitran
• The Valchitran gold
treasure was
unearthed in 1925 in
the village of
Valchitran, Pleven.
The biggest gold
treasure known to the
Bulgarian
archaeology has very
interesting small
cups: they would
stand in upright
position only when
filled with liquid!
4. • Four deep one-handle cups
with their handles bent upwards
• A bowl characterized by its
high swung handles, weighing
over 4 kg
• A triple vessel, consisting of
three almond-shaped pieces
connected to each other with
tubes, and with a handle with
three branches forming a system
of interconnected vessels.
5. The treasure of Rogozen
• This treasure is
the biggest one ,
counting 165 silver
vessels . It is
unearthed in 1985
in the centre of the
village of Rogozen
(located in
northern-west
Bulgaria) in an
empty plot of land,
used many years
as a vegetable
garden.
6. • Тhe overall number of
the items increased to
165 silver vessels – 54
jugs, 3 cups and 108
phialai. The decoration
of found objects
represents many scenes
from the Thracian and
Greek mythology, proof
of the strong
relationship and
cultural exchanges
between ancient Greeks
and the Thracian
tribes.
7. The Gold Treasure of Panagyurishte
• The gold treasure from
Panagyurishte was
found in 1949 near to
Panagyurishte. This
one-of-a-kind treasure
consists of an
extremely beautiful set
with rich decorations
and ornaments. It was
used in feasts or in
libations and rituals
related to the Thracian
mythology. It consists
of 9 vessels made of
pure 23-carat gold,
weighing over 6 kg
8. • Four of the
rhytons are shaped
as animals’ heads
or torso – ram,
goat, and two of
them have fallow
deer heads. The
upper part of the
rhytons is
decorated with
scenes and heroes
from the Greek
mythology.
9. Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak
• The Thracian tomb of
Kazanlak is a unique
aesthetic and artistic
work, a masterpiece of
the Thracian creative
spirit. This monument is
the only one of its kind
anywhere in the world.
The exceptionally well
preserved frescos and the
original condition of the
structure reveal the
remarkable evolution and
high level of culture and
pictorial art in
Hellenistic Thrace.
10. Roman amphitheatre in Plovdiv
• The ancient
theatre of
Philippopolis is a
historical building in
the city center
of Plovdiv(ancient
Philippopolis), Bulg
aria. Although this
structure is
commonly referred to
as anamphitheatre, it
is actually a
traditional Roman
theatre.
11. • The Roman amphitheatre was
constructed at the time of
emperor Marcus Aurelius
(2nd Century BC). It was
one of the most important
public buildings of
Trimontium, with impressive
architecture and compelling
magnificence. Its was
constructed to seat between 5
and 7 thousand people to enjoy
spectacular
performances. Today the
theatre is regularly used
thought the summer season for
all type of shows, concerts,
bale and other performances.
12. The Madara Rider
• The Madara Rider is
a unique relief, an
exceptional work of
art, created during the
first years of the
formation of the
Bulgarian State, at
the beginning of the 8th
century. It is the only
relief of its kind,
having no parallel in
Europe. It has
survived in its
authentic state, with no
alternation in the past
or the present.
13. Great Preslav
• Preslav was capital
of the First
Bulgarian Empire
from 893 to 972. The
ruins of the city are
situated some 20
kilometers southwest
of the regional city of
Shumen and are
currently a National
Archeological
Reserve.
14. Rila Monastery
• The monastery is a
complex of cultural,
dwelling and farming
buildings which take
about 8800 square
meters. The Rila
Monastery has an
unique architecture.
Outside, the monastery
looks like a fortress. It
has 24-meter stone
walls which forms
irregular pentagon.
15. Tsarevets castle
• The castle
Tsarevets is
situated in the
picturesque town of
Veliko Tarnovo,
Bulgaria. It is
rising on its place
from the time of the
Second Bulgarian
kingdom (1185 -
1393), and it was
main castle of the
old Bulgarian
capital.
