1. MEDICAL COLLEGE AT AMBEDKAR HOSPITAL CAMPUS,
Rohini, New Delhi
Site Report
Submitted by: SHALINI SINGH
3rd year, sec-B,
U.S.A.P.
General:
1. Fabrication of steel components is being carried out in fabrication yard set up at site.
2. Col sections and Beam sections are fabricated from plates. Standard rolled steel sections re not used except
for RHS tube sections, used for Steel Roof Trusses, Purlins, Framing for floor rafters and walling.
3. All fabricated connections are welded connections (Arc welding and Mig welding)
4. Bolted connections are provided for Base Plate Connections for Steel columns, Truss Support Connections
and Purlin connections.
5. No rivetted connection is provided.
6. M25 grade design (ready mixed) concrete mix and Fe 500 grade steel reinforcement is used for RCC work in
Pedestals and Col footings for Steel Cols.
7. Structures are designed for Wind Zone 4 and Seismic Zone 4, in which Delhi lies.
8. Analysis is performed using computer softwares like STAADPRO and ETABS.
2. Medical College at Ambedkar Hospital Campus, Rohini, New Delhi
Some important features:
Type of Structures: G+1 Storey Steel Structure, Ordinary Moment
Resisting Frames, with Steel columns supported on RCC Pedestals and
RCC Footings.
It is example of a Pre Engineered Construction in which most of the
elements of the building are prefabricated in a factory or a
prefabrication yard, transported to the site, assembled at the site and
erected. Major advantages are saving in time of construction and good
quality control.
Steel Structure:
i) Steel Beam and steel column sections: They are fabricated from
mild steel plates, as per Structural consultants design, at the casting
yard established the site. Standard rolled steel design beam have
not been used. Mild steel plates used for fabrication of beam and
column sections: 250 grade steel with yield stress of 250 N/mm2.
ii) Hollow Tubular Steel Sections: Square/Rectangular hollow steel
tubular sections (SHS/RHS) are adopted fro steel roof trusses,
purlins and bottom runners, wall paneling and floor paneling.
Standard SHS/RHS steel tubes used are Jindal tubes with 350 grade
steel, with yield stress of 350 N/mm2.
3. ROOFING:
A type steel roof trusses with SHS/RHS steel tubular sections, supported on steel
columns (All joint connections for trusses are welded connections, except for
support connections with steel columns and purlin connections, which are bolted
connections.
SHEETING:
Powder coated Aluminium/GI corrugated sheets (one piece) with no longitudinal
joint, fixed to RHS tubular Purlins with power driven self fixing screws. Roofing
sheets are treated with insulation material as an integral component of the sheets.
False Ceiling: Provision for gypsum board false ceiling to conceal steel trusses from
inside.
WALLING:
Walling consists of Bison Panelling on inside and outside of the framing consisting of
RHS steel tubes welded between floor beams and steel columns. Space between
wall panelling is filled with Glass wool insulation to provide insulation against heat
and sound.
Bison panels are compressed fibre board panels impregnated and bonded in
cement to make these strong and water proof.
FLOORING:
Similar to walling, flooring consist of Bison Panels supported over RHS tubes floor
rafters supported on main framing floor beams. Final floor finish consists of floor
tiles. RHS floor panelling is welded to main floor beams.
