2. TYPES OF MUSIC VIDEO
Noticeable types of music video include:
• Narrative based – the audience follow a story that is
being told in the video.
• Concept based – these videos don’t follow a
narrative, instead using multiple different clips with
little or no correlation.
• Performance based – these videos centre around a
performance by the artist, or sometimes a dance
routine by performers.

3. PURPOSE OF A MUSIC VIDEO
Music videos are produced for two main purposes:
• Promotional – Videos are made to promote an artist in
order to make more money. These type of videos range
from mass appeal to controversial, both aiming to get as
much media attention as possible to make the artist
more well known. For example, Miley Cyrus – Wrecking
Ball sparked many controversies due to the intense
amount of voyeurism and nudity.

to be made. Instead of being an advertisement for
the artist, the video may be an experimental and

In conclusion, I have realised that when planning our
music video we will have to make a decision on
whether we are constructing a concept, narrative or
performance based video and whether it is going to
be promotional or artistic.
