11. Process Type: Continuous process. Once aluminium
sheet is placed it is highly continuous product, highly
standardized process, and efficient, high volume, costly
to change set up and high cost of downtime.
Forecasting: Used in determining inventory. They
forecast foreign exchange and purchase newsprint.
Location Planning: Printing takes place only in
ahmedabad and copies are distributed from Udaipur to
Rajkot. Since, ahmedabad is in the centre so relatively
less transportation time.
Quality Control: Newsprint is purchased from North
America. The quality what they want is not available in
India so they import newsprint.
12. Sequencing: Same machine is used for all news paper so
they print newspaper prioritizing with the distantness of the
place where newspaper has to be delivered.
Flexibility: Any news obtained before 15 mins of start of
production, that can be included in paper. But once if printing is
started it needs to change aluminium sheet.
Recycling: The paper waste and aluminium sheets are sold to
get recycled.
Maintenance: Cost of downtime is very high and the time lost
is also very high.
After every type of paper, maintenance team come and check
every part of machine.
The inventory needs to be taken care of specially by the
treating them with insecticides and protecting them from water.
13. Types of wastage
Wrapper waste: weight of wrapper is also
included while weighing the newsprint weight.
Cut waste: If the papers are not intact or torn
due to mishandling are taken out.
Print Waste: There is an initial waste of copies
when the ink is new.
Sweep waste: Wastage after newsprint
remains unused.

Ordering of Raw material : The two major raw materials
are ink and news print. The TOI imports its news prints
from North America ,Indonesia and Philippines .Hence
the orders are placed, keeping the Foreign exchange
rates into account. The ink is purchased from local
manufacturers. A stock of 7 days is maintained as the ink
should not get dried up.
Storing Raw material : The Newsprint received is stored
at port cities in cheaper locations, insecticides are used to
protect paper from insects. The shipment & storage has
to be water proof. The ink is stored in a central tank
where optimum temperature is maintained.
Strategic Capacity Planning for products and services :
If any distributor wants to increase copies, he can
increase till 11 pm but in case of decrease in the number
17. CIRCULATION &
