2. Poster
• The poster has a "6" shape in it's main image which is
relevant to the movie's name.
• The most important starring actor is at the top of the poster.
• The tagline of the movie is at the bottom of the poster.
• Producers, Directors and studios listen in small text.
The contrast of dark and light colors on the character's features is
conventional for psychological thriller posters.
However, the colour scheme has very little to do with the actual teaser
trailer, the only things that link the trailer to the poster are the characters
and the tagline which is heard in the teaser and displayed on the poster.
The low-key lighting creates a sense of mystery which is often used in
psychological thrillers.
The font used to say "Sixth Sense" resembles a child's hand writing which
could link to the character choices in the film.
The silhouette of he young boy surrounded by light could suggest he s the
character with a "sixth sense" as he appears o be walking towards the yellow
tinted light. By the use of framing and close ups we can see the concerned
facial expressions of the character on the left which has used an indirect
address suggesting his attention is focused on something more important,
unknown to the audience.
3. Teaser Trailer
Fade/dissolve transitions into darkness have been used which are typically used in thriller films as they
create a sense of mystery and eeriness.
Within the montage sequence, a short duration of camera shots have been used to create a suspense
filled, tense atmosphere.
The diegetic sound used displays the innocent, high pitched voice of the young boy which creates an
eerie and unsettling atmospheric feel to the teaser trailer.
Non-diegetic voice over, a deep voice says "not every gift is a blessing", this is often used in this genre
of film.
The duration of the shots become shorter and quicker as the teaser trailer progresses, anticipation and
tension rises as flashing transitions and abstract camera angles are used.
Complex editing, which is a typical convention used in psychological thrillers has been used. This
includes slow motion effects which create a sense of time passing in an unrealistic and other worldly
way.
4. Teaser Trailer
The trailer opens on the death of an old lady which
conveys the main theme of this film straight away to the
audience and even further when the young boy claims to
see the old lady who died next to his car window with a
broken back, this is complemented with an eerie sound
which can make the audience feel creeped out. We can
see this by taking a look at the comments for the video.
Further more the trailer introduces the genre to the
audience by having a heartbeat match the cuts in the
edit which gets the audience tense and thinking about
the films mystery.
Throughout the trailer a few handheld shots are used
which gives the audience the perspective of a ghost
floating.
