5. Description
It can be cultivated through out the Pakistan.
It is a rabi season crop.
It is a herbaceous type of plant grows up to four
feet.
It is an annual crop.
Flowers are just like umbrella and found in
patches of cluster.
7. Soil and climate
Cultivated in variety of soils with sufficient
supply of moisture.
It prefers clay, loam soil with well drained
Water logging condition significantly reduce the
cultivation of fennel.
8. Varieties
Common fennel
Is a large branching plant that can reach height of
upto 5 feet
Florence fennel
Is smaller then common fennel reaching only 2 to
3 feet in height
11. Soil preparation
Cultivate the soil 3-4 time to pulverize and good
structure.
Farm yard manure(FYM) can also be add before
ploughing.
It can be cultivated in line sowing or broadcasting
12. Sowing time
1st October – 15th November is optimum sowing
time for crop in Pakistan.
14. Seed rate
4-5 Kg per acre seed is required to produce a
optimum crop stand
Germination is start with in 10-12 days after sowing
15. Irrigation
1st irrigation should be carried immediately after
sowing the seed
Subsequent 1 or 2 should be carried until seed start
germinating
After this the funnel crop should be irrigated at an
interval of 15 to 21 days
Light and frequent irrigation are suitable for best
production

1st hoeing and weeding should be carried out after one
month of sowing

Weed can be controlled by both means of chemicals and
mechanicals

crops with non-umbelliferous varieties

plants; apply appropriate systemic fungicide

Harvesting can be done during April
When the color of bunches turn greenish yellow
and dried under sun for few days

Yield of the crop depends on variety of seed, soil
type and fertility, irrigation and crop management
practices.
On an average fennel yield about 10 to 11 quintal
seed/ha.
