Thesis Statement On Gun Control
Over the course of the fall semester, I intend to develop a strong, yet demanding, argument that supports my ideas and efforts to make a long lasting
affect on the residents living in Saint Louis. My advocacy project consists of informing the Saint Louis Mayor, Lyda Krewson, on issues pertaining to
gun control in the St.Louis metro area and eventually persuade her to look into designing more efficient background checking systems for individuals
wanting to bear arms.
I have been living in the Saint Louis area for seventeen years, and I have witnessed the consequences caused by the loose regulation of guns. Many
guns, including military–grade weapons, have been circulating into the wrong hands of individuals in the region. Because of this, the crime rate in the
Saint Louis area has been on the rise as well. As a St.Louis resident, I am often informed of the harsh results related to gun violence; News stations
throughout the region report the jarring records of deaths and other injuries related to firearms. As months progress, I started to realize that my city
was making a turn for the worst. Gun control, being a relevant social issue in St.Louis, was affecting not just the victims, but the families, friends, and
the overall communities. I started to ponder why my hometown was having such a massive issue over guns. Although I have not been personally
affected by gun violence, I do not want to become a bystander to these casualties.Rather, I desire to improve this issue

The Heroin Epidemic Essay
Volunteering and participating in service projects are two of the most rewarding activities in my opinion. Some people may find it was a hassle or
only do it because they have to meet the minimum requirement for school or work. Helping others, for me, has always been somewhat second nature
to me. Over many years of volunteering I believe I have developed qualities that will stick with me for life and benefit me in my career. As early as
freshman year, in high school, I found myself looking for ways to give back. I started by looking for opportunities within school, where I came across
the A+ tutoring program, and so my journey of giving back began. While tutoring, my patience for others really evolved, partly by choice and partly

You would think that people would stop using when they hear the statistics, or when they see their friend die because of it, but the truth is they can't
stop because they are already addicted. Alison, a young girl using states, "From the day I started using, I never stopped. "Within one week I had gone
from snorting heroin to shooting it. Within one month I was addicted and going through all my money." (International) The expanding epidemic of
unawareness is taking its toll on the adolescents of St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and the rest of the world. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs makes it
somewhat easier to understand why people use heroin. The top three levels of the pyramid, 1.social 2.esteem 3.self–actualization, show what people are
trying to get out of using. Most people will begin using due to peer pressure and trying to fit in. What kids do not realize is that the first time using
could lead to addiction. So they will continue using because it makes them feel better about themselves, it becomes a part of who they are. Pretty
soon they look around and realize heroin is the only thing they have left, because everyone else has left. These problems teens are facing here in
Missouri are the same ones they are facing all over the world. A recent statistic from the International Statistics of Heroin Addiction & Abuse reports
that over 9 million people in the world are using heroin. (International) You read stories every day of

The Special Years ( 1907 And 1908 )
The Special Years (1907 and 1908)
Between having won a financially lucrative lawsuit against the owners of the Mineral Springs Hotel and Bathhouse, plus getting paid for still
working there, and now collecting a monthly pension, Charles is able to purchase a lot and a half for $150 ($4,000 in 2017). He is undeniably
enthusiastic as he hires men to build the first house that he and Elizabeth have ever owned. And what a location. Near the end of a dead–end street, it
is only a one block walk to church and a three block walk to work. As August of 1907 arrives, the Okawville newspaper announces that "Charles
Lorne's new residence was nearing completion." In September he and his family move into his new residence at 804–06 North Nashville ... Show more

What a feeling of relief and of satisfaction when he receives word on December 5 that he has won again. His pension is to be increased to $8.00 ($210
in 2017) a month. Earning a pension that brings in $96 ($2,500) a year is a significant increase in the income of Charles when the average worker
only makes $.22 an hour. (L141)
Charles and Elizabeth now have two more members in their family. Their first grandchild, Charlie Koehler, is born in East St. Louis back in 1903
and their second and third grandchildren, Grace and Irene Hall, are born in 1906 and 1907. Now, in 1908, they add two more grandchildren with the
births of Orval Koehler and Charlie Hall. Unfortunately, they all live in East St. Louis and therefore Charles and Elizabeth are unable to see them on
a regular basis. They are helped by the recent addition of a $1.25 ($34 in 2017) round trip train ticket that can be purchased on Sundays.
Charles is a member of the Okawville Post 582 in the Grand Army of the Republic. This is a fraternal organization of veterans who served in the Union
Army during the Civil War. This entails sometimes wearing military–style uniforms at various functions. In 1908, he is proud to learn that he is being
promoted to the rank of Aide–de–Camp to the Commander of the Post. The certificate that he is presented with comes from the organization's
headquarters in Chicago. He has it

Chapter Summary: The Market Street Mafia
Not too long ago in downtown St. Louis Missouri, there was a boy named Cade Burgundy, He was the leader of the second most powerful gang in
town. The Market Street Mafia. If you were walking down the streets in St louis and you saw boys in red leather jackets and navy blue pants, you
know you're in trouble. The Mafia was known for their bloody spoon attacks, (they also carried heaters). They would often go to Busch Stadium to
watch the game but end up fighting with Dragon gang members and getting kicked out. The Clark Ave Dragons were the most powerful gang in St.
Louis, their leader was Cameron Diaz. Cade and Cameron were best friends until 8th grade when Cade asked out the girl Cameron had liked since 3rd

incident and talked to my guys and they said they would stop fighting if your guys agreed to it." Cade said, "I will talk to them as soon as I get
out, and let's go back to being friends, and I will breakup with Bernese if that is what it takes. Then Cameron said, "No don't dump her, I have been
thinking and it was really selfish of me to shut you out after you and her started hanging out." The nurse came walking in and said it was time for
Cam to leave so they could get some rest. The next week the boys got out and talked the gang into stopping the fights. They agreed, and that night they
all went to the Cardinals game and both gangs sat together and that was the first time in a while of them not getting kicked out. They all had a great
time and never fought

St. Louis Art Museum Analysis
Whether pride, fear, or peace, art is intended to make the viewer feel an emotion. The visit to the St. Louis Art Museum had me excited to discover
a new revelation. Being the second time that I had visited in two semesters, I was looking forward to a new angle to take, writing about some of my
favorite pieces I was unable to include in my last paper. This semester we have been focusing on theRenaissance era (1300–1700), also known as the
Rebirth. During this time, scholars and artists looked back towards the classical learning. Purposefully looking past the middle–ages, they focused on
the classical past of Rome and Greece. During this time period many works of art were created, however, throughout this semester every major artist

Christ. I have only been to the Art Museum twice, and both times with a purpose. And while each of the assignments involves different works and
time periods, they both end in the same way. No matter the art work, sculpture, painting, or buildings each are created with an intent and today we
cannot ask the artists why they did what they did. It is our job to really look into the art, gathering our own

Washington University Student Personal Statement
It wasn't long into the school year when my third grade teacher realized that I hardly knew how to read. She would watch as I flipped through the
pages of a book, imitating the act of reading. I had adapted my behavior to make it through class without notice, but had not yet figured out how to
pass her reading comprehension quizzes. After gently questioning me about it, she sent me to the school counselors to get tested for learning
disabilities. As she suspected, the tests came back with multiple diagnoses: dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, and a lack of short–term memory.
Being a third grader, those words had no meaning to me, but little did I know how they would force me to create adaptations that prepared me for

continue to transition from public assistance to work, school, and job training, the largest obstacle they face is affordable, accessible child–care. In

The Eye Of The Needle
The Eye of the Needle
The Eye of the Needle was always an iconic place along the Missouri until May 1997 when it collapsed under suspicious circumstances. On the
expedition of Lewis and Clark, the White Cliffs of Montana was a signature site described by Lewis. One of the extraordinary landmarks was the
Eye of the Needle, which Meriwether Lewis first described its scenery by comparing its magnificent rock formations to "elegant ranges of lofting
freestone buildings, having their parapets well stocked with statuary" (Burns, 1997). This was 1800's talk, which doesn't make sense to most people
nowadays. Looking at an old picture of the Eye of the Needle that my grandfather took while rafting the Missouri, I can see the beauty that people raved
about.
The rock structure is so perplexing. The arch made up of multiple boulders doesn't look like anything that nature could ever make naturally. It defies
gravity standing on the very top of the rock wall lining the rushing Missouri. The light grey structure has thousands of crevices that formed themselves
from natural wear–and–tear over time. 200 feet up, it towers over the Missouri River keeping a watchful eye on all of the wildlife.
When blogger Chris describes this beautiful place he said,
"The Eye of the Needle could be seen a few miles upstream while floating the Missouri River, and from a distance it appeared to be just that – a tiny
window allowing some of the sky to shine through. The structure was only about 11 feet high,

Analysis Of Maya Angelou 's I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
Like many African American writers in American history, migration is a defining part of Maya Angelou's life and character. In her memoir I Know
Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya thoroughly discusses each of the moves that shape the person she becomes. From St. Louis at seven to a Southern
California junkyard at fifteen, Maya's life is filled with both voluntary and involuntary migrations. Some of these moves are intensely emotionally
taxing, while others allow her to grow and flourish. Although her expectations vary from move to move, without fail, her reactions and circumstances
elicit a change or response that define her character. Indeed, as Dr. Jerome De Romanet discusses, "Place is not always therefore an essentially

She briefly considers suicide and separation from her beloved brother and only friend as preferable alternatives to this forced migration. However,
she follows Momma's stoic example and uncomplainingly agrees to the move. She notes of Momma, "She looked pretty sad, but... [s]he would
have been more surprised than I had she taken me in her arms and wept at losing me" (123). After her initial panic, her only reaction to moving in
with her mother in what she believes to be California is merely resignation. Her immediate reaction to the suggested migration to California is
negative, and although it cannot be said that her pessimistic emotions lead to or cause the extent of the horrors the move holds, Maya's expectations
of the migration certainly set the tone for her first move. Despite her initial belief that her mother resides in California, Maya discovers in the car
ride to her new home that she and her brother will live in St. Louis with their mother, and not in California with both parents. Not once does she
wonder about what her new life might look like in either city. She remembers, "I closed myself off to everything but the kissing sounds of the tires on
the pavement and the steady moan of the motor" (124). She merely attempts to pretend like the move is not happening. She only reacts once the full
reality of her situation strikes her, saying, "I stopped crying since there was no chance to get back to Stamps and Momma" (127). Before

Landfill Fire Threatens Nuclear Waste Site Outside St. Louis
Later the EPA admitted that people who work at the West Lake Landfill have to be cautious and careful to protect their health. According to
Veronica LaCapra's report, "Landfill Fire Threatens Nuclear Waste Site Outside St. Louis." if the Westlake Landfill's soil is disarranged,
"radioactive dust particles could be released into the atmosphere." Unfortunately, it may lead to the inhalation of airborne radioactive dust particles.
If these particles are inhaled by workers it could seriously harm their health. The EPA suggested that continued monitoring is advised and necessary,
due to possible elevated levels of radon in the air at the landfill and the surrounding area. It seems full safety processes must be put into place to
reduce harmful dusting to protect everyone from potential exposure during any cleanups. Even though the residents of North St. Louis, the EPA and
other authorities have their points of view, further serious claims continue to be revealed. An oppositional statement using government records and
the EPA 's data was reported by VГ©ronique LaCapra just recently. In the article "Confused about Bridgeton, West Lake landfills? Here 's what you

areas and trees. In addition, a second report was released about the Wilfong family who lives in Bridgeton, MO within smelling distance of the landfill.

The 1991 article Savage Inequalities written by Jonathan Kozal he highlights the fact that every person is entitled to the right to receive quality care

Reasons Why Basketball Is The Best Sport
Many people believe that basketball and football can be the best sports in the world. Basketball can be known as the best sport because it's played all
over the world and tons of people like to play/watch it. For football tons of people love to play the sport and tons of people like to watch football every
Sunday. In my opinion, I think baseball is clearly the best sport in the world. The great sport of baseball was invented in 1839 in a town called
Cooperstown, New York. Many of you might know that this is now where the MLB hall of fame is located at and this is a great tourist destination.
Once the sport was founded here it started to branch out all over the country and even some parts of the world. Now it's played in almost every
single country in the entire world. It's crazy how a sport like baseball can be played all around the world and rapidly grow that fast. In all sports getting
injured is always a possibility. In football and basketball ACL injuries are the most common injuries that a player can get. Also in football, there's
now a growing concern over CTE problems which is concussions to the head. This is very scary for most players and now players are starting to
retire for this reason. In the MLB, the only concern of injuries is really in their arm and a player can almost guarantee a return at some point. So, my
point is that MLB doesn't have as many injuries as the other sports do so this attracts more players. Baseball is the easiest sport to just pick up

St. Louis Art Museum
St. Louis Art Museum
As Edgar Degas once said, " Art is not what you see, but what others make you see". The St. Louis Art Museum is a place for artist to display their
art and give spectators the option to see art from a new perspective. This was the case for me. As we walked up to the beautifully structured building
that stood so tall and wide, my expectations were extremely high. At first glance I notice the bronze statue of King Louis IX of France riding high on
his horse. From this statue alone, my expectations of the art museum grew stronger. I have never been to an art museum before, so I wasn't sure of
what to expect. My first expectation was to see huge detailed sculptures right as I walked through the door. That expectation didn't come true.
Once we arrived, we looked up possible exhibitions that we could attend. A museum employee recommended African textiles. After hearing the title, I
immediately expected this exhibition to have complicated and precise components to the tiles. African textiles are, in fact, made of wool or fine animal
hair in a weave patterns. Although the exhibit was interesting, it wasn't what peaked my interest.
The St. Louis Art Museum has many intriguing pieces of artwork, but my eyes seemed to navigate towards Thomas Cole's pieces. Research has shown
that Thomas Cole was best known for his landscape art, but through the portal of America's wilderness and it's association of God. Nature, human life,

The relationship between "form" and "function" had always been the core of Sullivan's career. In his point of view, anything, whether it is organic or
inorganic, could be deemed as the representation of its content and function, and every particular function has developed its own form. Sullivan explain
this idea by illustrating oak tree in his Kindergarten Charts, he wrote, "generally speaking outer appearances resemble inner purposes. For instances, the
form, oak tree, resembles and expresses the function or purpose, oak" (Sullivan, Kindergarten chats). In here, "form" could be understood as
phenomenon of things, but not just the appearance. In his article, "The Tall Office Building Artistically Considered," published in 1986,Louis Sullivan

But, actually, what Sullivan really cares about is the "form." Otherwise, he would not have this much thoughts about the relationship between form and

hand, he believes that architecture could be great without any decoration or ornament. On the other hand, thoughtful designed ornament is also
indispensable to architecture. Finally, he gave the answer, he thinks particular ornament should be applied on the particular kinds of architecture, just
like different trees have various types of leaves. So, architectural form is not influenced by the extrinsic factor, but the "growth" of itself. Now it is
understandable why Wainwright Building got such a luxuriant ornament on its top. Under the eave, the surface between windows are extended, and

Baseball As A National Pastime
Mary McGrory, an American journalist, writes, "Baseball is what we were, and football is what we have become"("Brainy Quotes"). Baseball is out
and football is in. Only 27% of kids from ages 9–13 play baseball in the world today. There is no longer "Take me out to the ball game," but let me
watch the game on my TV.Baseball as a national pastime has experienced a decline in popularity because of the increase of popularity of football,
length of the season and cost of a game, and length of plays and the game itself. Some fans believe that the increase of popularity of sports other than
baseball, such as football, can be attributed to the average size of football stadiums and the average game attendance. Americans in general like for
things to be bigger and better and the statistics for football stadium size and attendance show football facts far exceed baseball facts. For example, the
Dallas Cowboys stadium is the largest NFL stadium seating a whopping 80,000 plus 20,000 standing. By comparison, the Los Angeles Dodgers, of
the MLB, has the biggest stadium in baseball seating 56,000 ("ESPN"). These stats show the increase in popularity of football compared to the
decrease of popularity of baseball. Research shows the Cowboys have demand for more seating because of the number of tickets sold per game. The
average game attendance for an NFL game is greater compared to that of an MLB game. In fact, the Cowboys sell an average of 92,867 tickets per
game. On the other hand,

Casino Gambling Controversy
INTRODUCTION
Local legal casino gambling has gained popularity in the United States after a long history of prohibition in many parts of the country. Casino
gambling was outlawed in the early 1900's before being legalized in Nevada and the city of Las Vegas in 1931. In 1978, gambling was legalized in
Atlantic City, New Jersey (casino–history.org). Las Vegas continues to dominate as the number one casino destination. Atlantic City and New Jersey
have taken a hit as completion in surrounding states increases every year. Pennsylvania surpassed New Jersey as the number two casino destination in
the United States in 2015 (Tisdall 2). Today, 43 states have casinos (americancasinosguide.com). Since the birth of the Internet, gambling online has
grown into a new industry. Online gambling is continuing to grow to this day and is an industry already worth billions. Many of the issues in today's
society and legislatures have moved away from the issue of if casinos should be legal towards the issue of should sports gambling be legal on websites
such as draftkings.com and fanduel.com.
Legalized casino gambling is still a very important topic that continues to cause controversy throughout the states. According to statista.com, the United
States casino market had revenues of approximately 65 billion dollars in 2015. This revenue stemmed from the 1,511 casinos open throughout the
United States (statista.com). The sheer amount of revenue the casino industry produces each year makes it a

St. Louis, Missouri is famous for the Gateway Arch and the Zoo; however, the Saint Louis Art Museum (SLAM) is something that can't be overlooked.
At a recent trip, I found a landscape painting that shows the true meaning of human interaction. This panting is called Extensive Landscape With
Travellers on a Country Road and was painted by Jan Brueghel the Elder around 1608 to 1610. Some background information about the infamous
painter Jan Brueghel is that he was born in 1568 in Brussels, Belgium. He was a painter of immense diversity. His art work includes biblical,
mythological, battle scenes, seascapes, still lifes, portraits, and numerous landscapes. Some of his landscapes themes include: woodland hunts,
mountain prospects, country roads... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It shows the true beauty of a landscape painting with numerous formal elements and principles of design. The painting is appealing to me because I
have always been engaged outside working on our farm, or hunting with my brother. Knowing the importance a road make for my family when we
move are goods to the local grain elevator. This panting is similar in that regard because it involves the working class on a winding road. Their
dependence on the road to move goods and obtain food from place to place. Brueghel's painting still hold true today because people depend on roads
for interaction and movement of goods. When gazing at the painting, I can see myself stuck in time; performing the different tasks alongside the
road. When I first saw the painting compared to now, I would say that my response to the panting has changed. At first glance you see a typical
landscape; however, when analyzing the painting you can find the true meaning of human interactions. As you can see, The Extensive Landscape
With Travellers on a Country Road by Jan Brueghel is a remarkable painting with numerous elements and principles of design. I hope you enjoyed this
painting as much as I have. I would of never guessed that such a remarkable painting would be located so close to home at the St. Louis Art

Success Essay : Success Is The Key To Life
Success Is The Key to Life Everyone has a different opinion on the term success. According to the Webster Dictionary, the word success as a noun
defined as achieving wealth, respect, or fame. Success can also be measured in many other ways. Many people throughout today's society strive for
their own forms of success. Success has many interpretations; while some people's understanding of the term is similar, everyone's definition is a little
bit different. To me, success is when someone or something or a goal, big or small, is accomplished or achieved. For example, I find success in the
area of baseball. The word connotes accomplishment or happiness. Success can also have a multitude of antonyms and synonyms such as "defeat",
"failure", or "victory" and "happiness". While many people's thoughts are similar towards the word success, there are many people whose thoughts are
different. While the term success has many definitions, the Webster Dictionary defines success as "favorable or desired outcome; also :the attainment
of wealth, favor, or eminence. (https://www.merriam–webster.com/dictionary/success). The denotation of success is when someone or something is
accomplished or achieved a goal. A connotation is, "an idea or feeling that a word invokes in addition to its literal or primary meaning"https:/

This would authorize the people of the territory to form a constitution and a state government and this was the goal they hoped to achieve. They also
set out for the admission of the territory to be in the Union and on equal footing with the original states. By 1819, Congress was considering allowing
legislation. This would authorize Missouri to frame a constitution for the state. Missouri wanted admission from the Union and the Northern states
opposed it. They felt as if the Southern states that were slaveholding had too much power already. Also, the Constitution allowed states to count each
slave as three–fifths of a person. They determined population with these numbers which raised the amount of Congressional representatives the state
could have. Thus, the South had an advantage in Congress. After the first petition was applied, a debate occurred over the government's right to
restrict slavery. Since popular support in northern states for the restriction of slavery remained high, northern politicians had strong incentives to
oppose the admission of any new states with slavery (Forbes, 2007). The Missouri Compromise came about in 1820. It was an effort for the Senate

Descriptive Essay About My Hometown
My hometown is known for being an old classic German immigrant community. The towns name is Columbia, Illinois which is located about 10 miles
south of Saint Louis in the southwest region of Illinois. All my life I have lived in Columbia attending school there and always going to town events.
Although Columbia isn't filled with many national historical events or structures, it has a rich local history and important local historical sites. As a
kid I visited many of these locations on school field trips. I love my hometown due to its small size that offers a sense of community and togetherness.
The first European settlers to the area were French traders who came in the mid–17th century. They used the land for temporary camps and trading
posts. In the mid–18th century Britain gained control of the area, but no settlements were constructed. In 1780 the first colonial American settlers
arrived, were they constructed the first permanent settlements. The area was chosen by the settlers for its source of lumber, fertile soil and, the
Mississippi river was a short walk away. In the 1840s a big wave of German immigrants settled in Columbia. Most Germans entered America through
New Orleans and traveled north on the Mississippi River to Saint Louis. From Saint Louis many Germans moved outward to surrounding areas
including Columbia. The land in Columbia was cheap and with fertile soil harvests were plentiful. This attracted many new people and soon German
culture took over the town.

The University 12 Miles Away
My college education began not at the institution about which I am writing, but rather another university 12 miles away. For two years, I attended
Maryville University in St. Louis with a triple major in English, psychology, and sociology. Maryville University's campus was small with just three
small academic buildings on campus. As I progressed from my freshman to my sophomore year, I realized I had outgrown the small campus that had
once felt comfortable. With only one key faculty member in each of my major departments, the classes had become predictable. When the spring of
my sophomore year arrived, I decided to transfer to Webster University where I could learn from a larger faculty with varied points of view. Although I
did not spend all four years of my undergraduate career at Webster University, I have great affection for it. The campus was a mix of recently
constructed academic buildings and repurposed historical homes in the St. Louis suburb of Webster Groves, including the English department's home:
Pearson House. The amalgamation of buildings added a sense of both the past and the future to the university's campus; however, as a student, I was
unaware of the history behind the campus I grew to love. Coincidentally, Webster University is celebrating its centennial this academic year.

The First Stop On My Cpr Tour
Crystal City Underground
The first stop on my CPR tour was the Crystal City Underground. This awesome cave sits in the heart Crystal City, which is located about 30 miles

Plate Glass factory, with materials for almost a century. In the 1980's the plant and the mine were closed, allowing water that was pumped out for
decades to begin to flood portions of the cave. The recent owners of this cave decided to turn the property into a tourist attraction. They built up
area's for children to explore, adults to play games, a stage for bands to play, a sitting area with large TV's for sports and other event enjoyment,
and barges to take tours on while exploring the depths of vastness this cave has to offer. On the day of my arrival I had the pleasure of
experiencing a dark path being well lit with over 400 carved pumpkins along what was pleasantly titled the Great Pumpkin Walk. As I ventured
along I could see multiple paths that led to deeper parts of the cavern. Many of these paths were blocked off for what I am assuming were safety
reasons. After walking what seemed to be a half mile I arrived at the tour barge. Loaded with 8 passengers our tour guide, Steve, took us deep into the
cave and explained its history while showing us fascinating things. I witnessed my first close up experience with cave bats, got to see permanent

Arguments Against Protest
Garbage littering the streats, buildings slowly withering away in flames, glass shattered everywhere while smoke turns the sky black, as city officials
try to put together the pieces of whats left of their city. All this is a classic scene of the aftermath after a protest. While having the right to freedom of
speech, and the ability to express them openly, there is still a right and wrong way to do so. Protesting is the least effictive and most harmful. Although
many argue that protesting is manageable and proffiecent, protests casue more issues than bennifets because they hurt people and property, send bad
messages to the communities and waste people's time and resources. In the process of protesting many people get hurt and injured while property gets
destructed and destroyed. This alone should be the red light, signally that protest does no good. A recent example would be the Trump Inauguration,
more than two police officers and one civilian were taken to the hospital (Krieg). Why are we endangering the people that protect us, when all of this
could be solved by not protesting. Not only does it endanger police but in puts civilians at risk. These major cities where protest take place are homes

Nuclear Power And The Atomic Bomb
One of the major technological break though in the late 19th and early 20th century was the birth of atomic fission, between 1895 and 1945. In
WWII, the men of science applied this new knowledge to create the atomic bomb. Only few years after the war in 1956, this cognition was applied to
make new power plants, fueled by the new energy source uranium. (pg1 World Nuclear Association)
Today, as much as we know about nuclear power is one of the most powerful and fresh energy, compared to any carbon dioxide producing fuels like

Book Summary
June 11, 2017
The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy This was a very good and intriguing book to read throughout the past couple weeks. I thought that Darren
Hardy made handling money and life very simple and easy unlike other books. I Thought for my summary of the book that I would share some of his
great ideas he presented in the book with his wisdom.
Success and failure are the results of the choices that we make everyday. Part of the compound effect is making the right decision over and over again
for a long period of time in order to be consistently successful. Its all about making the right decision which can be hard at times because sometimes

"every decision, no matter how slight, alters the trajectory of your life (pg.23)."
Another great thing I took from this book is to track the habits that you want to change. This is something that I can apply to my whole life
especially the financial part of it. I fid myself spending my money way to fast and wondering how it disappeared so quickly. In the book it says to
make sure you record everything that you buy so you can make improvements on what you are doing with your money. "Tracking is a simple exercise.
It works because it brings moment–to–moment awareness to the actions you take in the area of your life you want to improve (pg. 38)."
Another great part about this book is when he talks about riding the momentum of success. Its important that when you find success that you go back
to what got you there and work just as hard as you did before and you will begin to ride this wave or rhythm of success. "Achievers–People who get
into a successful rhythm–continue busting their butts and end up achieving more and more (pg.94)." I think that one of the most important parts of
the book is when talks about developing a routine. A routine is everything, its what you do everyday in order to be successful and find success in life.
Developing a routine develops great habits in every part of

The command and control of the plan starts with the County Executive as the lawful person authorized to declare an emergency. The County Executive

Persuasive Essay On Lack Of Education
America under our Constitution gives us the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We have great American people such as, John Hunter,
Michael Bennett, Aimee Guidera, and Kaya Henderson fighting for equality among education. However, kids gradually lose hope, their learning
potential crumbles , fewer and fewer opportunities remain open, and kids slowly slip away. Savage inequalities among education greatly exist in
American. Few can dispute that we have the opportunity to set our own goals and standards. Just by turning on the tv , reading articles, magazines
and even going on social media clearly not everyone is given the same opportunities or privileges. It is very disappointing that only few are paying
attention to these poor disadvantaged kids. The U.S. does not provide access to the American Dream because of the lack of education and
opportunities, kids are constantly cheated out of their futures. Yes, it is true that all students have the opportunity to go to school, but some kids have
to deal with major disadvantages. Few actually know the sights, sounds, and smells of ghetto schools. James Baldwin once quoted "not everything
that is faced can be changed but nothing can be changed until it is faced" .Those living in la la land that thinks that everyone has the same
opportunities needs to wake up. This is not playtime, there are boys and girls who are struggling for basic needs. Right here in America their are kids
in: East St. Louis, Camden New Jersey, Washington D.C., Bronx New York, San Antonio Texas, Cincinnati Ohio, southside Chicago, Detroit Michigan,

John Voss Drills
Brigadier General Frost and Brigadier General Lyon are on a collision course. Frost is training his pro–Southern state militia at Camp Jackson over
which the Confederate flag is flying. Lyon believes that waiting any longer without action would be dangerous for the cause of the Union and the
security of St. Louis. (L174) (L204) (L272)
On Friday, May 10, 1861, Johann Voss drills with the rest of his 2ndRegiment. This is their usual practice in the morning. They drill for two hours
under the watchful eye of their commander, a five–year veteran of the Austrian army, Colonel Henry Boernstein. Learning to drill in such a brief period
is no easy matter for Johann. (L174) (L175) (L272)
Suddenly a messenger comes rushing in with an order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, he and the others are filling the street from curb to curb massed closely together. To the onlookers, he and his regiment appear to be nothing
more than an armed mob as none of them have been issued military uniforms. Nervous and frightened, many of the soldiers are holding their guns not
up over their shoulders as they were told, but in a ready position with some of them aiming at the people on the pavement. Johann is both scared and
nervous as everything is oppressively silent. He can hear nothing but the shuffling of feet or, now and then, an officer's command, or a taunt from the
hostile crowd. All four regiments arrive almost simultaneously to surround Camp Jackson. (L174) (L175) (L180)
He is deployed on the northwest side of the camp at Grand and Olive as Camp Jackson is surrounded by the mostly German troops with guns set up
in such a way as to cover almost the entire secessionist camp. Lyon sends an officer under a flag of truce into the camp. This officer presents Brig.
General Frost with Lyon's demand to surrender the camp to federal troops within half an hour, or he would experience the worst. Totally surprised by
their sudden predicament, there is an uproar and panic in the secessionist camp of 2,000 men. Within 30 minutes, General Frost's assistant appears
before Lyon and

Thesis Statement On Gun Control

  • 1. Thesis Statement On Gun Control Over the course of the fall semester, I intend to develop a strong, yet demanding, argument that supports my ideas and efforts to make a long lasting affect on the residents living in Saint Louis. My advocacy project consists of informing the Saint Louis Mayor, Lyda Krewson, on issues pertaining to gun control in the St.Louis metro area and eventually persuade her to look into designing more efficient background checking systems for individuals wanting to bear arms. I have been living in the Saint Louis area for seventeen years, and I have witnessed the consequences caused by the loose regulation of guns. Many guns, including military–grade weapons, have been circulating into the wrong hands of individuals in the region. Because of this, the crime rate in the Saint Louis area has been on the rise as well. As a St.Louis resident, I am often informed of the harsh results related to gun violence; News stations throughout the region report the jarring records of deaths and other injuries related to firearms. As months progress, I started to realize that my city was making a turn for the worst. Gun control, being a relevant social issue in St.Louis, was affecting not just the victims, but the families, friends, and the overall communities. I started to ponder why my hometown was having such a massive issue over guns. Although I have not been personally affected by gun violence, I do not want to become a bystander to these casualties.Rather, I desire to improve this issue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Heroin Epidemic Essay Volunteering and participating in service projects are two of the most rewarding activities in my opinion. Some people may find it was a hassle or only do it because they have to meet the minimum requirement for school or work. Helping others, for me, has always been somewhat second nature to me. Over many years of volunteering I believe I have developed qualities that will stick with me for life and benefit me in my career. As early as freshman year, in high school, I found myself looking for ways to give back. I started by looking for opportunities within school, where I came across the A+ tutoring program, and so my journey of giving back began. While tutoring, my patience for others really evolved, partly by choice and partly because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You would think that people would stop using when they hear the statistics, or when they see their friend die because of it, but the truth is they can't stop because they are already addicted. Alison, a young girl using states, "From the day I started using, I never stopped. "Within one week I had gone from snorting heroin to shooting it. Within one month I was addicted and going through all my money." (International) The expanding epidemic of unawareness is taking its toll on the adolescents of St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and the rest of the world. Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs makes it somewhat easier to understand why people use heroin. The top three levels of the pyramid, 1.social 2.esteem 3.self–actualization, show what people are trying to get out of using. Most people will begin using due to peer pressure and trying to fit in. What kids do not realize is that the first time using could lead to addiction. So they will continue using because it makes them feel better about themselves, it becomes a part of who they are. Pretty soon they look around and realize heroin is the only thing they have left, because everyone else has left. These problems teens are facing here in Missouri are the same ones they are facing all over the world. A recent statistic from the International Statistics of Heroin Addiction & Abuse reports that over 9 million people in the world are using heroin. (International) You read stories every day of ... The Special Years ( 1907 And 1908 ) The Special Years (1907 and 1908) Between having won a financially lucrative lawsuit against the owners of the Mineral Springs Hotel and Bathhouse, plus getting paid for still working there, and now collecting a monthly pension, Charles is able to purchase a lot and a half for $150 ($4,000 in 2017). He is undeniably enthusiastic as he hires men to build the first house that he and Elizabeth have ever owned. And what a location. Near the end of a dead–end street, it is only a one block walk to church and a three block walk to work. What a feeling of relief and of satisfaction when he receives word on December 5 that he has won again. His pension is to be increased to $8.00 ($210 in 2017) a month. Earning a pension that brings in $96 ($2,500) a year is a significant increase in the income of Charles when the average worker only makes $.22 an hour. (L141) Charles and Elizabeth now have two more members in their family. Their first grandchild, Charlie Koehler, is born in East St. Louis back in 1903 and their second and third grandchildren, Grace and Irene Hall, are born in 1906 and 1907. Now, in 1908, they add two more grandchildren with the births of Orval Koehler and Charlie Hall. Unfortunately, they all live in East St. Louis and therefore Charles and Elizabeth are unable to see them on a regular basis. They are helped by the recent addition of a $1.25 ($34 in 2017) round trip train ticket that can be purchased on Sundays. Charles is a member of the Okawville Post 582 in the Grand Army of the Republic. This is a fraternal organization of veterans who served in the Union Army during the Civil War. This entails sometimes wearing military–style uniforms at various functions. In 1908, he is proud to learn that he is being promoted to the rank of Aide–de–Camp to the Commander of the Post. The visit to the St. Louis Art Museum had me excited to discover a new revelation. Being the second time that I had visited in two semesters, I was looking forward to a new angle to take, writing about some of my favorite pieces I was unable to include in my last paper. This semester we have been focusing on theRenaissance era (1300–1700), also known as the Rebirth. During this time, scholars and artists looked back towards the classical learning. Purposefully looking past the middle–ages, they focused on the classical past of Rome and Greece. And while each of the assignments involves different works and time periods, they both end in the same way. She would watch as I flipped through the pages of a book, imitating the act of reading. I had adapted my behavior to make it through class without notice, but had not yet figured out how to pass her reading comprehension quizzes. After gently questioning me about it, she sent me to the school counselors to get tested for learning disabilities. As she suspected, the tests came back with multiple diagnoses: dyslexia, auditory processing disorder, and a lack of short–term memory. Being a third grader, those words had no meaning to me, but little did I know how they would force me to create adaptations that prepared me for Washington University Law School. • 11. The Eye Of The Needle The Eye of the Needle The Eye of the Needle was always an iconic place along the Missouri until May 1997 when it collapsed under suspicious circumstances. On the expedition of Lewis and Clark, the White Cliffs of Montana was a signature site described by Lewis. One of the extraordinary landmarks was the Eye of the Needle, which Meriwether Lewis first described its scenery by comparing its magnificent rock formations to "elegant ranges of lofting freestone buildings, having their parapets well stocked with statuary" (Burns, 1997). This was 1800's talk, which doesn't make sense to most people nowadays. Looking at an old picture of the Eye of the Needle that my grandfather took while rafting the Missouri, I can see the beauty that people raved about. The rock structure is so perplexing. The arch made up of multiple boulders doesn't look like anything that nature could ever make naturally. It defies gravity standing on the very top of the rock wall lining the rushing Missouri. The light grey structure has thousands of crevices that formed themselves from natural wear–and–tear over time. 200 feet up, it towers over the Missouri River keeping a watchful eye on all of the wildlife. When blogger Chris describes this beautiful place he said, "The Eye of the Needle could be seen a few miles upstream while floating the Missouri River, and from a distance it appeared to be just that – a tiny window allowing some of the sky to shine through. The structure was only about 11 feet high, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Analysis Of Maya Angelou 's I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings Like many African American writers in American history, migration is a defining part of Maya Angelou's life and character. In her memoir I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Maya thoroughly discusses each of the moves that shape the person she becomes. From St. Louis at seven to a Southern California junkyard at fifteen, Maya's life is filled with both voluntary and involuntary migrations. Some of these moves are intensely emotionally taxing, while others allow her to grow and flourish. Although her expectations vary from move to move, without fail, her reactions and circumstances elicit a change or response that define her character. Indeed, as Dr. Jerome De Romanet discusses, "Place is not always therefore an essentially geographical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, she follows Momma's stoic example and uncomplainingly agrees to the move. She notes of Momma, "She looked pretty sad, but... [s]he would have been more surprised than I had she taken me in her arms and wept at losing me" (123). After her initial panic, her only reaction to moving in with her mother in what she believes to be California is merely resignation. Her immediate reaction to the suggested migration to California is negative, and although it cannot be said that her pessimistic emotions lead to or cause the extent of the horrors the move holds, Maya's expectations of the migration certainly set the tone for her first move. Despite her initial belief that her mother resides in California, Maya discovers in the car ride to her new home that she and her brother will live in St. Louis with their mother, and not in California with both parents. Not once does she wonder about what her new life might look like in either city. She remembers, "I closed myself off to everything but the kissing sounds of the tires on the pavement and the steady moan of the motor" (124). She merely attempts to pretend like the move is not happening. She only reacts once the full reality of her situation strikes her, saying, "I stopped crying since there was no chance to get back to Stamps and Momma" (127). Before ... • 13. Landfill Fire Threatens Nuclear Waste Site Outside St. Louis Later the EPA admitted that people who work at the West Lake Landfill have to be cautious and careful to protect their health. According to Veronica LaCapra's report, "Landfill Fire Threatens Nuclear Waste Site Outside St. Louis." if the Westlake Landfill's soil is disarranged, "radioactive dust particles could be released into the atmosphere." Unfortunately, it may lead to the inhalation of airborne radioactive dust particles. If these particles are inhaled by workers it could seriously harm their health. The EPA suggested that continued monitoring is advised and necessary, due to possible elevated levels of radon in the air at the landfill and the surrounding area. It seems full safety processes must be put into place to reduce harmful dusting to protect everyone from potential exposure during any cleanups. Even though the residents of North St. Louis, the EPA and other authorities have their points of view, further serious claims continue to be revealed. Basketball can be known as the best sport because it's played all over the world and tons of people like to play/watch it. For football tons of people love to play the sport and tons of people like to watch football every Sunday. In my opinion, I think baseball is clearly the best sport in the world. The great sport of baseball was invented in 1839 in a town called Cooperstown, New York. Many of you might know that this is now where the MLB hall of fame is located at and this is a great tourist destination. Once the sport was founded here it started to branch out all over the country and even some parts of the world. Now it's played in almost every single country in the entire world. It's crazy how a sport like baseball can be played all around the world and rapidly grow that fast. In all sports getting injured is always a possibility. In football and basketball ACL injuries are the most common injuries that a player can get. Also in football, there's now a growing concern over CTE problems which is concussions to the head. This is very scary for most players and now players are starting to retire for this reason. In the MLB, the only concern of injuries is really in their arm and a player can almost guarantee a return at some point. So, my point is that MLB doesn't have as many injuries as the other sports do so this attracts more players. Baseball is the easiest sport to just pick up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The St. Louis Art Museum is a place for artist to display their art and give spectators the option to see art from a new perspective. This was the case for me. As we walked up to the beautifully structured building that stood so tall and wide, my expectations were extremely high. At first glance I notice the bronze statue of King Louis IX of France riding high on his horse. From this statue alone, my expectations of the art museum grew stronger. I have never been to an art museum before, so I wasn't sure of what to expect. My first expectation was to see huge detailed sculptures right as I walked through the door. That expectation didn't come true. Once we arrived, we looked up possible exhibitions that we could attend. A museum employee recommended African textiles. After hearing the title, I immediately expected this exhibition to have complicated and precise components to the tiles. African textiles are, in fact, made of wool or fine animal hair in a weave patterns. Although the exhibit was interesting, it wasn't what peaked my interest. Sullivan explain this idea by illustrating oak tree in his Kindergarten Charts, he wrote, "generally speaking outer appearances resemble inner purposes. For instances, the form, oak tree, resembles and expresses the function or purpose, oak" (Sullivan, Kindergarten chats). Finally, he gave the answer, he thinks particular ornament should be applied on the particular kinds of architecture, just like different trees have various types of leaves. So, architectural form is not influenced by the extrinsic factor, but the "growth" of itself. Now it is understandable why Wainwright Building got such a luxuriant ornament on its top. There is no longer "Take me out to the ball game," but let me watch the game on my TV.Baseball as a national pastime has experienced a decline in popularity because of the increase of popularity of football, length of the season and cost of a game, and length of plays and the game itself. Some fans believe that the increase of popularity of sports other than baseball, such as football, can be attributed to the average size of football stadiums and the average game attendance. Americans in general like for things to be bigger and better and the statistics for football stadium size and attendance show football facts far exceed baseball facts. For example, the Dallas Cowboys stadium is the largest NFL stadium seating a whopping 80,000 plus 20,000 standing. By comparison, the Los Angeles Dodgers, of the MLB, has the biggest stadium in baseball seating 56,000 ("ESPN"). These stats show the increase in popularity of football compared to the decrease of popularity of baseball. Research shows the Cowboys have demand for more seating because of the number of tickets sold per game. The average game attendance for an NFL game is greater compared to that of an MLB game. This would authorize Missouri to frame a constitution for the state. Missouri wanted admission from the Union and the Northern states opposed it. • 31. Descriptive Essay About My Hometown My hometown is known for being an old classic German immigrant community. The towns name is Columbia, Illinois which is located about 10 miles south of Saint Louis in the southwest region of Illinois. All my life I have lived in Columbia attending school there and always going to town events. Although Columbia isn't filled with many national historical events or structures, it has a rich local history and important local historical sites. As a kid I visited many of these locations on school field trips. I love my hometown due to its small size that offers a sense of community and togetherness. The first European settlers to the area were French traders who came in the mid–17th century. They used the land for temporary camps and trading posts. In the mid–18th century Britain gained control of the area, but no settlements were constructed. In 1780 the first colonial American settlers arrived, were they constructed the first permanent settlements. The area was chosen by the settlers for its source of lumber, fertile soil and, the Mississippi river was a short walk away. In the 1840s a big wave of German immigrants settled in Columbia. Most Germans entered America through New Orleans and traveled north on the Mississippi River to Saint Louis. From Saint Louis many Germans moved outward to surrounding areas including Columbia. The land in Columbia was cheap and with fertile soil harvests were plentiful. This attracted many new people and soon German culture took over the town. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The University 12 Miles Away My college education began not at the institution about which I am writing, but rather another university 12 miles away. For two years, I attended Maryville University in St. Louis with a triple major in English, psychology, and sociology. Maryville University's campus was small with just three small academic buildings on campus. As I progressed from my freshman to my sophomore year, I realized I had outgrown the small campus that had once felt comfortable. With only one key faculty member in each of my major departments, the classes had become predictable. When the spring of my sophomore year arrived, I decided to transfer to Webster University where I could learn from a larger faculty with varied points of view. Although I did not spend all four years of my undergraduate career at Webster University, I have great affection for it. The campus was a mix of recently constructed academic buildings and repurposed historical homes in the St. Louis suburb of Webster Groves, including the English department's home: Pearson House. The amalgamation of buildings added a sense of both the past and the future to the university's campus; however, as a student, I was unaware of the history behind the campus I grew to love. Coincidentally, Webster University is celebrating its centennial this academic year. • 33. The First Stop On My Cpr Tour Crystal City Underground The first stop on my CPR tour was the Crystal City Underground. This awesome cave sits in the heart Crystal City, which is located about 30 miles south of St Louis, MO. Carved into the Mississippi river bluff this cavern was once an active sand mine serving a local glass plant, Pittsburgh Plate Glass factory, with materials for almost a century. In the 1980's the plant and the mine were closed, allowing water that was pumped out for decades to begin to flood portions of the cave. The recent owners of this cave decided to turn the property into a tourist attraction. They built up area's for children to explore, adults to play games, a stage for bands to play, a sitting area with large TV's for sports and other event enjoyment, and barges to take tours on while exploring the depths of vastness this cave has to offer. On the day of my arrival I had the pleasure of experiencing a dark path being well lit with over 400 carved pumpkins along what was pleasantly titled the Great Pumpkin Walk. As I ventured along I could see multiple paths that led to deeper parts of the cavern. Many of these paths were blocked off for what I am assuming were safety reasons. After walking what seemed to be a half mile I arrived at the tour barge. Loaded with 8 passengers our tour guide, Steve, took us deep into the cave and explained its history while showing us fascinating things. I witnessed my first close up experience with cave bats, got to see permanent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arguments Against Protest Garbage littering the streats, buildings slowly withering away in flames, glass shattered everywhere while smoke turns the sky black, as city officials try to put together the pieces of whats left of their city. All this is a classic scene of the aftermath after a protest. While having the right to freedom of speech, and the ability to express them openly, there is still a right and wrong way to do so. Protesting is the least effictive and most harmful. Although many argue that protesting is manageable and proffiecent, protests casue more issues than bennifets because they hurt people and property, send bad messages to the communities and waste people's time and resources. In the process of protesting many people get hurt and injured while property gets destructed and destroyed. This alone should be the red light, signally that protest does no good. A recent example would be the Trump Inauguration, more than two police officers and one civilian were taken to the hospital (Krieg). Why are we endangering the people that protect us, when all of this could be solved by not protesting. Not only does it endanger police but in puts civilians at risk. In WWII, the men of science applied this new knowledge to create the atomic bomb. Only few years after the war in 1956, this cognition was applied to make new power plants, fueled by the new energy source uranium. (pg1 World Nuclear Association) Today, as much as we know about nuclear power is one of the most powerful and fresh energy, compared to any carbon dioxide producing fuels like coal or oil. The Compound Effect By Darren Hardy Griffey Halle Bus 210 Dr. Carl Wysocki Book Summary June 11, 2017 The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy This was a very good and intriguing book to read throughout the past couple weeks. I thought that Darren Hardy made handling money and life very simple and easy unlike other books. I Thought for my summary of the book that I would share some of his great ideas he presented in the book with his wisdom. Success and failure are the results of the choices that we make everyday. Part of the compound effect is making the right decision over and over again for a long period of time in order to be consistently successful. In the book it says to make sure you record everything that you buy so you can make improvements on what you are doing with your money. "Tracking is a simple exercise. It works because it brings moment–to–moment awareness to the actions you take in the area of your life you want to improve (pg. 38)." Another great part about this book is when he talks about riding the momentum of success. Its important that when you find success that you go back to what got you there and work just as hard as you did before and you will begin to ride this wave or rhythm of success. "Achievers–People who get into a successful rhythm–continue busting their butts and end up achieving more and more (pg.94)." The plan includes a line of secession that takes into account the County Executive not being available or if he/she becomes incapacitated for any reason. This line of secession is an element that is extremely important for the continuity of any plan. • 39. Persuasive Essay On Lack Of Education America under our Constitution gives us the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We have great American people such as, John Hunter, Michael Bennett, Aimee Guidera, and Kaya Henderson fighting for equality among education. However, kids gradually lose hope, their learning potential crumbles , fewer and fewer opportunities remain open, and kids slowly slip away. Savage inequalities among education greatly exist in American. Few can dispute that we have the opportunity to set our own goals and standards. Just by turning on the tv , reading articles, magazines and even going on social media clearly not everyone is given the same opportunities or privileges. It is very disappointing that only few are paying attention to these poor disadvantaged kids. The U.S. does not provide access to the American Dream because of the lack of education and opportunities, kids are constantly cheated out of their futures. Yes, it is true that all students have the opportunity to go to school, but some kids have to deal with major disadvantages. Few actually know the sights, sounds, and smells of ghetto schools. James Baldwin once quoted "not everything that is faced can be changed but nothing can be changed until it is faced" .Those living in la la land that thinks that everyone has the same opportunities needs to wake up. This is not playtime, there are boys and girls who are struggling for basic needs. Right here in America their are kids in: East St. Louis, Camden New Jersey, Washington D.C., Bronx New York, San Antonio Texas, Cincinnati Ohio, southside Chicago, Detroit Michigan, and Alabama who are not given the equal chances to rise in the world.
