Informative Speech On Sororities
Informative Speech Outline Introduction: A)You see them everywhere. Walking around
proudly in their Greek letters that they ve earned, and that they have come a long way to be able
to wear. They come in all different colors such as pink and green, red and black, blue and
white.... the list goes on. Even though they wear different letters and colors, they are all a part
of one thing: a sorority. B)All of these different sororities had to come from somewhere right?
C)There are over 80 sororities that are known today, only 27 of which are not affiliated, meaning
that they aren t official but people still join them. D)According to usnews.com only 39% of
women at The University of Alabama are in sorority. E)Today, I am going to educate you on the
origin of sororities, next, compare their history from then until now, and the overall goal of
sororities. A lot of people see the different sorority houses and girls around their campus, but don
t know where they originated from. This brings me to my first main point. Body: Main Point 1:
Sororities were originally created from the image of fraternities. A)According to dictionary.com,
a fraternity is a local or national organization of male students, primarily for social purposes,
usually with secret initiation and rites and a name composed of two or three Greek letters.
B)When Fraternities were first thought of, they had to be kept secret. 1.They were known as
secret societies and only had up to 30 members. 2.When they finally started getting recognition,
women fraternities came about. C)Sororities were originally known as women fraternities.
1.They were known as women fraternities because that was the only word known to describe
them in the 1800s. 2.According to appstate.edu some sororities still are required to use the word
fraternity in their official name because they were already legally incorporated and couldn t
change it. 3.The first woman fraternity was called The Adelphean Society. They were founded in
1851 at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. Because of this, more women fraternities started to
surface and so it began. 4.The word sorority comes from the Latin word soror meaning sister. This
word was first used in 1882 by the women of Gamma

The Importance Of Life In Captivity For Animals
Life in captivity for animals is comparable in some situations to humans living inside of a prison.
The restrictions that are imposed on these animals while in captivity are unbearable living
conditions that affect the animal both mentally and physically. The animals understand that this
is not their home which leads to the breakdown of their psyche. One example of this comes from
a zoo in the United Kingdom. In the year 1979, the Bristol Zoo gained a new animal which
would become one of their biggest attractions. Misha the male polar bear caught the eye of the
public with his unusual and odd behavior. Researchers that studied animal rights in the late
twentieth century linked this behavior to Misha s enclosure at the zoo. Researchers came to the
conclusion that the prison like living conditions that Misha encountered was the cause of his
psychotic appearance. The public had described him as looking like a beast who was breaking
down as a result of the captivity instead of an average polar bear in a zoo. The zoo was able to
view Misha through surveillance during this entire process, similar to humans living in a prison or
an asylum. According to the article by Andrew Flack, Following media attention from animal
rights organizations and the media between 1985 and the early 1990s, Misha s psychotic
appearance in a repeatedly evoked image of the prisons and asylums of the past, where surveillance,
spectacle, and suffering collided to alter the natures of the beasts within

The Different Shores of Love
Zora Hurston s novel Their Eyes Were Watching God depicts a young woman named Janie
Crawford s journey to finding real love. Her life begins with a romantic and ideal view on love.
Janie s grandmother, Nanny, soon grows fearful of Janie s newfound sexuality, she quickly
marries Janie off to Logan Killicks, an older land owner with his own farm. Janie quickly grows
tired of Logan and how he works her like a slave instead of treating her as a wife and runs away
with Joe Starks. Joe is older than Janie but younger than Logan and sweet talks Janie into
marrying him and soon Joe becomes the mayor of an all African American town called Eatonville.

Virginia And Massachusetts Compare And Contrast
During the early 1600s many new colonies were building up strong economies that produced
materials worthy of trade. These colonies were also experimenting with more freedoms and
democratic systems away from the watchful crown of England. Two colonies, Virginia and
Massachusetts, were both able to be self sustaining colonies despite the vast differences between the
two. Virginia s strong economic independence and Massachusettsstrong political freedoms and
independence allowed the regions to establish themselves separate from England.
One of the original intentions of the colonies was to tap into some of the wealth and gold the
spanish were finding in south america. However, when no gold was found in Virginia the colonies

Massachusetts was established by puritans in order for them to be free from the Anglican church
of England. Massachusetts political system was largely swayed by the puritan church and many
laws enforced biblical rule. The colony was governed by a representative body that required the
representatives, as well as any other legal men, to be within strong standing in the puritan church
before they were permitted to hold any political office. This government allowed the colony and
her people to govern themselves creating a trial ground for democracy. However, the incredibly
strict beliefs of the puritans developed an intolerance of people of other faiths, such as the quakers,
anglicans and catholics, and thus caused a lack of diversity of ideas in the colony. Virginia s
government, on the other hand, was not governed as a bible commonwealth like in massachusetts,
this allowed for more diversity in the colony. In Virginia status was determined by land ownership
instead of standing in the church. This created a class system which excluded many of the freed
indentured servants from any involvement in the government. This eventually caused Bacon s
rebellion which despite its scale caused little immediate change in the Virginia government,
however it did make the government more aware of the freed frontiersmen who were previously
ignored. This eventually gave them more sway in the colonial government which allowed for the
eventual formation of a democratic

Discipleship In Jesus
Discipleship
Teachers around the time when Jesus lived thought that learning was such that the people who
wanted to learn should come to them to be taught. But Jesus felt differently and rather than
waiting for people to come to him, he went out to find them and then chose them to be his
followers. He called them disciples and this word means one who learns. But Jesus chose his
disciples carefully as we are told in Mark 1:16 20 and also in Mark 3:13 19. In the first passage,
Jesus appoints his first four disciples, Simon, Andrew, James and John. Jesus said to them Come,
follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. (Mark 1:17) In Mark 2:13 17, Jesus calls up the
fifth disciple, Levi who was a tax collector, and Jesus later renamed him ... Show more content on

They have to rely on other people and as it is said in Morley s passage on discipleship, For they
set out with nothing but the word of God in their hearts.
When Jesus tells the disciples about the cost of discipleship (Mark 8:27 33) he means that they
should be prepared to put God and his commandments first before anything else, and they must
be prepared to suffer for their beliefs. Jesus told them that the most important commandment is
Love God and your neighbour as yourself, (Exodus 20: 3 17) and many disciples throughout the
ages have made many sacrifices to try and put this teaching into practise. When Jesus said to
take up the cross, we can assume that because we all have a cross to bear, we should take up our
vocation, and that means for us to follow Jesus regardless of the sacrifices we have to make.
When we are told we should follow him, it means that we should travel down the same road as
Jesus and suffer the many trials of being a disciple.
But, in Mark 10:29 31 we are told about the rewards of discipleship and the strange reward they
receive for their suffering. Jesus says this to the disciples after he tells them the story of the Rich
Young Man.
In this passage, the rich young man asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus tells
him that he must give up his wealth, but the man is unable to do so. The

The Solid Power Of Discrimination
The solid power of discrimination in modern Mexico stems from the construction of Mexican
society during the Spanish colonization in the 1500 s. One of the most powerful weapons
concealed by the European during the Conquest was hegemony. Hegemony is a basic principle of
social control, in which a ruling class dominates others ideologically, with a minimum of physical
force, by making its dominance seem natural and inevitable (Chasteen, 2001). Thus, by using
hegemony, the Spaniard convinced the native peoples of America to accept their place below the
Spaniards and forced them to see the conquerors as superior beings worthy of obedience. By
establishing their superiority, the Spaniards were able to control and dominate the indigenous
people, forcing the Spanish culture, religion, and language onto the population. As a result,
indigenous people started to distance themselves from their roots and their own people, creating a
damaging prejudice and bigotry that has been passed down through generations in Mexican
families. Indigenous people turned against each other. They mixed with the Spaniards creating
new castes, dividing the people and providing them with power and social status based on the
lightness of their skin. This feeling exists even today, white skinned people are seen as more
honest and trustworthy, thus deserving privileges and power; while the darker skinned people are
seen as a resemblance of the indigenous people indicating inferiority and implying a need to

Small et al. (1997) provide a summary of theoretical on the review of congestion measures
demonstrated at the outset of this project that a number of different approaches are used to quantify
the level of congestion for an urban area. Although there are a number of different congestion
measures, travel time measures offer the best means for estimating the economic impacts of the
congestion. There are several reasons for this:
1. Travel time corresponds directly to the traveler s experience of congestion, when measured from
a given origin to destination;
2. As indicated below, efforts to estimate the direct user costs of congestion are based on placing a
value on travel time, often as a percentage of the wage rate; and

According to the municipality s website, Windhoek is growing at a rate of approximately 4.3%
per year and within 20 years Windhoek will have to cater to the transport needs of 1 million
residents. At the moment, there are approximately 330 000 people living in Windhoek and more
than half of them work in the city center while some learners travel to school in the city from
Katutura and other suburbs every day.
Apart from public transportation, which consists of taxis and municipal buses, the number of
private vehicles in the city seem to be increasing daily as more and more people buy cars and
traffic congestion gets worse as most of these vehicles use the three main routes into town.
According to IJG Securities statistics of vehicle sales, 6 373 vehicles have been purchased in

Topic: For the period before 1750, analyze the ways in which Britain s policy of Salutary Neglect
influenced the development of American society as illustrated in the following: Legislative
assemblies, commerce, religion. Before 1750, the undocumented British policy of salutary neglect
greatly impacted the methods through which American colonists regulated their daily lives.
Through mercantilist thought processes, Britain created the colonies merely for gain of the mother
terrain itself. Therefore, it did not give them any specific attention and allowed them to simply rule
itself by personal means and this idea makes up salutary neglect. The colonies used their own
assemblies, such as the House of Burgesses, to govern themselves.... Show more content on

Primarily colonial leadership could make this decision, because the gist of the situation
comprised of keeping the slaves from taking advantage of the fact that England allowed freedom
under certain circumstances. Economically, the Crown did not provide as much assistance as
needed to the colonists of the New World. Trade involved mainly countries other than England,
because this way profits were maximized. England, once again, created its colonies for
mercantilist reasons: profits and only profits. In reaction to these trade schemes, the Navigation
Acts were enforced. Smuggling then grew extremely popular mainly because of price
differences and simple convenience. Agriculturally, the main crops were indigo, sugarcane,
tobacco, cotton, and rice. Due to high demand, several workers were needed. Through the
Triangular trade, raw materials went to England and the Northern Colonies, slaves came to the
plantation dominated areas of the colonies, and manufactured goods went to the West Indies.
Molasses was turned into rum in New England and traded for more slaves as well. Religious
freedom was one of the main causes for English peoples to move to the New World. They
escaped from the de catholicization of the Church of England in order to believe in what they
wanted to belive in. The government once again did not pay any heed to set an official religious
set of rules in the colonies, therefore allowing the people to

The Effect Of Bid Price Dispersion On Contracting ( Versus...
3.3 Effect of Bid Price Dispersion on Contracting (versus Contract Indecision)
Due to the complex nature of IT services and the buyer s lack of full knowledge of IT services,
buyers in online labor markets face value uncertainty over how much to pay for an IT service in
general (termed common value uncertainty) and how much to pay for the IT service from a
particular freelancer (termed private value uncertainty). Because of the difficulty in assessing a
freelancer s true characteristics (e.g., skills, expertise, capacity, etc.), the buyer cannot precisely
estimate the price of a particular freelancer for an IT service given his attributes (private value).
However, it is feasible to infer the common value of an IT service based on the ... Show more
content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the average of all freelancers bid prices, namely the estimate of the common value, is
$80 in both scenarios, the dispersion in scenario (a) is larger than that in scenario (b). In
scenario (b), all three freelancers bid a price very close to $80, which delivers a consistent
message to the buyer that the common value of the IT service is $80. Hence, the buyer is less
uncertain to infer the common value as $80. In scenario (a), however, the three freelancers have
very different bid prices, which makes a buyer more uncertain about the common value of the IT
service ($80). In sum, a buyer will have higher (lower) common value uncertainty when bid price
dispersion is high (low).
We argue that the common value could serve as a practical benchmark to evaluate each
freelancer s bid price and infer how much more or less a buyer should pay a particular freelancer
(to overcome private value uncertainty). Using our running example, in Scenario (a), the three
bids prices ($40, $80, $120) are highly dispersed around the average of $80, and it will be very
difficult for a buyer to evaluate any of these bids in terms of how much more or less she would
need to pay a particular freelancer. Specifically, the lowest priced freelancer may deliver a low
quality service, while the highest priced freelancer would reap the buyer s potential surplus. In
contrast, in Scenario (b) of the running

Burn Burns In The United States
I felt intense warmth around my bed frame. Just as I was about to open my eyes I sensed a
strong surge of pain that overwhelmed my body, as I looked down at my legs, I saw a sea of
orange flames devouring my bed sheets. It was in that moment that I realized that my house was
on fire, and my legs were burned. This is an example of how most Americans experience home
fires. In fact, residential properties have the most fire related deaths (76.5%), fire injuries (78.0%)
and fire dollar loss (55.0%) in the United States (United States Fire Administration, 2013). The most
popular injuries related to fires are burnwounds. Burn wounds can be categorized into three

Meroe 1)How did the history of Meroe reflect interaction with neighboring civilizations? The
way the history of Meroe reflected interaction with neighboring civilizations is they traded more
often with their neighbors. That is how they received their fortune and power. 2)How was the
decline of Meroe connected to the changing patterns of long distance trade? The decline of
Meroe was caused by deforestation because wood was needed to make charcoal for iron. The
deforestation made Egypt s trade go from the Nile Valley to the Red Sea which made the materials
available to Meroe s kingdom disappear. 3)What role did the environment play in their history? The
role of Meroe s environment made the people of the kingdom such as merchants, farmers etc less
dependent on irrigation systems. The overall population did not need to live by the Nile unlike
Egypt who was in need of the irrigation system. Axum 4)How does the development of Axum

Manifest And Latent Content In The Toy Story Movies
The Toy Story movies by Pixar Animation Studios are three movies that hold many messages for
the people that choose to view the films. There are two types of content that are present in movies
and books, but the content is much more important in children s movies because the media can
teach the children how to interact socially when they are older. The content of media can be broken
down into two different categories that are called manifest and latent content. Manifest content is
the intended message of the media, which is what the media is trying to promote for the young
viewers and readers of children s books and movies (Structural Functionalism, 2017). There are
more many different examples of manifest content throughout the three Toy Storymovies, but some
stand out more than others. One of the main messages of Toy Story is that teamwork is key, and it
is important to work together in order to achieve success (Disney, 2016). The latent content of
media are the messages that are unintended and may have a negative impact on the young
consumers of content (Structural Functionalism, 2017). An example of latent content from Toy
Story 3is that once someone is of no use, their lives should end (Cubria, 2014). The manifest and
latent content of the Toy Story movies are very important for the social upbringings of the young
viewers of the Pixar franchise. There are many instances in the Toy Story movies that send intended
messages to the young viewers. These manifest messages

My Experience In Life
There are many moments in an individual s life where they succeed and learn dramatically from
their experience. It could be mentally, physically, or lead them to a higher self esteem and self
confidence. It could be the littlest success such as making a pancake, but it can have so much
impact on a persons selfworth. Success can have many different definitions depending on who
you ask usually, but at the end of the day, it s usually improving either as an individual or at a
certain task. To begin with, I believe if you put your mind into something, you can do anything.
Growing up, my family has always had high expectations for me and I ve always felt very

L. Frank Baum s The Wizard Of Oz
Hidden messages are everywhere, whether its in a television episode, newspaper, magazine,
book, or movie in this instance. L. Frank Baum did an excellent job in hiding this political and
economic message in an allegory. This plot was called the Wizard of Oz and was a children s
story published in 1897 which contained adult matters. The books storyline was based on the
issues that were occurring in the late nineteenth century during the populist era debates. Every
character in this story represents a specific person or message to the overall narrative Baum
wanted to tell. Geographically, this story starts in Kansas City, which is not a surprise since the
populist movement began in this area. It also references the Democratic convention of 1900,
showing that this is also a political topic as well. Now the East part of America was seen as the

The silver currency part of America is represented through the shows that the Wicked Witch of the
East leaves behind after dying. This epitomizes both the silver component of a bimetallic standard
and the ability for the people to make the currency that is needed to continue growing the economic
trend. The author of this article, Hugh Rockoff, makes a credible point to notice that the Wicked
Witches were created to epitomize eastern business individuals in this area. Also, the yellow brick
road that the main character crosses through is meant to be the physical representation of the gold
standard. Most physical things that had specific colors had a reason to be put in the storyline,
therefore this really is a monetary parable. The first important characters that was later introduced
was the Scarecrow, which is meant to be the average western farmer at that time. Baum

This is supposed to show the opponent how they would benefit by agreeing with the writer s

be listened to (Willy, 2008, para. 6). This shows the opponent that if they adopt the writer s
position, it would give the Indians the right to determine if the names of the mascots are racist.
Also, Willy finds common ground between the opposing viewpoints and provides a compromise.
He brings up the controversy regarding the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. The National Collegiate

differences among the community. Will proposes that If it can, and if the Sioux then agree to let
the university use their image, the NCAA ought to withdraw its objection (Willy, 2008, para. 7).

Introduction:
The pioneer private Chinese automaker Geely Automobile Holdings successfully took control
Swedish Volvo from Ford Motor Company in year 2010 triggered a lot of media attention
worldwide. In agreement, Geely acquired Sweden Volvo Car Corporation 100% equity with $1.8

as well as important supplier systems.
Geely entered into auto manufacturing business in 1997, and is today a fully integrated

Additionally, through acquisition, enterprise can be benefited with reduced industry rivalry and
increased market power to bargain down the input price over suppliers and raise up the selling price
to buyers. In contrast, there are challenges associated with acquisition. The biggest challenge in the
international acquisition is how to deal with inter culture difference. Overestimating the economic
benefits also contributes to the failure to increase profitability.
By taking over Volvo, Geely can own a lot of advanced exclusive technologies, and patents,
which is top in the field of automotive safety, energy conversation and environment protection
and also can improve its image and competitive force over its rivals to achieve larger customer
base and superior profitability, and that Geely will help Volvo reduce production costs and expand

Alcohol And The Liver Research Paper
Alcohol can have negative effects on liver function. When alcohol is consumed the body starts
trying to metabolize it but has no way of doing so. The liver then has to work detoxify and remove
the alcohol from the bloodstream. Once the liver finishes the oxidation process, the alcohol
becomes water and carbon dioxide. If the alcoholaccumulates in the body, it may destroy cells and
organs. The oxidative metabolism prevents this from happening. When too much alcohol is
ingested at once, the toxins take a toll on the body, starting with the liver. The oxidative metabolism
of the alcohol creates molecules that lead to a condition called fatty liver. Research supports that
fatty liver, the early stage of alcoholic liver disease, develops in nearly

Differences Between Countries And Developing Countries
Geographers like to differentiate countries by grouping them into developed and developing
countries. A developed country is a country that has progressed relatively far during time and has a
highly developed economy and advanced technological infrastructure. Some examples of developed
countries are the U.S.A, Canada, the United Kingdom, Japan, Netherlands and many others. They
are normally the more profound countries that we hear about more often than developing countries.
A developing countryis a country that is at an early stage in economic development and has a less
developed industrial base, and a low Human Development Index(HDI). The Human Development
Index is a composite statistic of life expectancy, education, and income per capita indicators and is
used to rank countries into tiers of human development. Having a low HDI means the country has
a low life expectancy, a shorter length of education and the income per capita is lower. Some
examples of developing countries are Brazil, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, India, Afghanistan,
and many others. I plan to bring you into an in depth explanation about the many differences in
population studies between Japan and Brazil. First off, we ll start with a little bit of background
information on both countries. Japan is an archipelago of 6,852 islands in East Asia with a
population of 126,919,659 (July 2015). It has a land area of about 140,728 square miles and a total
area of about 145,913 square miles. It s area can

Pros And Cons Of Authoritarian Leadership
There are several different styles of leadership that can be used by a leader, whether if it is
within the public services or not. Each style works at different points of a situation; therefore, a
leader must be able to change between the required leadership style to ensure that a task is
completed to the best of a team s ability. It is unlikely that only one type of leadershipwould be
required during a task, so if a leader cannot adapt, the task may not be completed.
Authoritarian
Authoritarian leadership; also known as autocratic leadership; is an extremely direct style of
leadership where the leader remains in control the whole time and tells the other team members
what they must do. The team are expected to follow orders without question or negotiation,
therefore this could demoralise a team due to their opinions and ideas not being heard. It is best to
use authoritarian when: a leader knows all the information, there is a strict deadline to which the
team must work to, or the team is used to this style of leadership as the leader can be very
demanding which people may not be used to. Authoritarian leadership may not get the best response
from a team as it mainly relies on intimidation to work efficiently.
Authoritarian leadership is mainly seen within the military (British Army, Royal Air Force and
Royal Navy) where discipline is a major factor of their training and day to day life.
There are both pros and cons with using authoritarian leadership, depending on

Belgian Malinois Are Extremely Good Working Dogs

(21 22)
Belgian Malinois are extremely good working dogs. This breed is not as well known as the
German Shepherd, but it definitely competes with the German Shepherd in how all around
outstand the breed is. The main issue in this breed is the fact that it is too eager to work. It s
eagerness is so great that it often becomes sloppy in its work.
Ingle 6
Correct temperament is essential to a good working Malinois. Malinois are a confident breed
showing neither shyness nor aggressiveness in new situations. The dog may not like new people,
but Malinois are affectionate with their owner and family. The breed is naturally protective of its
owner and their property. The Malinois has a strong desire to work and is quick to respond to
commands.(25)
Malinois are fast and have a good, strong bite, and it is quite easy to motivate them in bite work.
Malinois also are both mentally and physically strong dogs. When the dog has a bad experience
often encouragement from their owner will bring them back to working hard again. (25)
Until 1839 Belgium was part of Holland, so originally the Dutch Shepherd was related to the
Belgian Shepherd dogs and also to the German Shepherd. The Dutch Shepherd was originally
used as a sheep dog, the dog would protect and herd the sheep. This enabled the breed to do other
tasks, some of them being police dogs and protection dogs. (25 26)

Why is English considered as a sexist language? There are various reasons why English is still
considered as a sexist language. One of the major reasons is because of the connotation. The word
engineer can be applied to both sexes, male and female. However, people habitually apply the word
engineer only with male because of its connotation. Consequently, when referring to a woman, you
have to add the word female before engineer. Also in the English language, there are many words
that are evidently male oriented such as, congressman and mailman. Moreover, some nouns of
feminine gender can only be obtained by adding a suffix to masculine gendered nouns such as,
prince and princess and steward and stewardess. Not only because of sexism in words, but sexism
in proverbs also suggest English as a patriarchal language. The proverb, a woman is like a lemon;
you squeeze her and throw her away, certainly shows disrespectfulness and discriminates women in
a very insulting manner. Males and females make different choices with regard to their college

Alexander the Great Alexander the Great was a king and conqueror. He is commonly referred to
as the most powerful leader of all time. What is it that makes him such a powerful leader? What
has he accomplished that has made him so significant? Were his accomplishments positive or
negative? These are all questions that when combined as one create a debate that has been going

He was a self confident man who only wanted to conquer for self pleasure. Alexander is the
reason that corruption and peculation were treated with casualness during this time. His pleasure
was when his peoples were loyal to him and that was all that was necessary for his approval. It
was because of him that Macedonia lost its manpower through the strenuous battles he
continuously fought. He left it as a weakened kingdom. His empire is given so much credit but it
was only based on rapid military conquest and died right after his death (Stoneman 92 94). It is
believed that Alexander conquered to rule, not to blend cultures. Heavy drinking led to disastrous
incidents and hastened his death. An example of such a disaster was the burning down of Persepolis
in a drunken revel. This is not an attribute of a good leader. He also lacked long range planning
and neglected his kingdoms future by exhausting himself in warfare while he delayed fathering
a royal successor. His selfishness is proved by his act of casually killing any threats to the throne
at the beginning of his reign (Sacks 15). Those who see Alexander in a negative manner
obviously have quite strong opinions about it. They see him as more of a madman than the most
powerful leader. It is easy to see where they get their assumptions from for they look at the
bloodshed part of Alexander s reign. Instead of focusing on the rare ability he had to conquer so

Why Is The Third Little Pig Admirable
The Three Little Pigs Essay
The third little pig is an admirable character because he works hard, he is brave, and because he
is willing to outwit his enemy, the wolf.He works hard by building his house, he is brave because
he stands up to the wolf, and he is intelligent because he is willing to outsmart the enemy. The first
reason why the third little pig is hard working is because he took the time and effort to build a
brick house. He first found the bricks which probably were hard to find. Then after he found them,
he had to transport them to the location where is the house was going to be.He then continued to
lay the bricks down one by one to make a well structured house to repel enemies. He is additionally
hard working not only because he built the house out of brick but because he put up four walls a

The Causes And Effects Of Alien Species In Japan
Alien species have been a huge issue in Japan, and not only Japan but the whole world. Alien

in Japan that are causing trouble. Alien species can harm the ecosystem, but how do they get there?
We are the reasons they come into different countries. Animals such as ants can not swim the ocean

One of the alien species in Japan are the small asian mongoose. Mongoose are mammals that are

The major theme of the book is the concept of games. The context of the games helps interpret
the other important ideas of the novel. The more the story unfolds, the harder it becomes to
separate the games from reality. Ender s final game had a profound impact on his life, and it
was, in fact, reality itself and not just a game as he had originally thought. Another theme is the
relationship between children and adults. The children s lives are constantly contrasted with the
lives of the adults. The children are capable of killing, manipulating, and hating, which are the
worst features of adults, but they are also capable of creating and helping. Friends and enemies
are another theme of the novel. Whether or not someone is a friend or enemy is never entirely
clear. In the end, the ones who Ender thought were enemies, turned out to be friendly. Card
proves that there are no clear distinctions between friends and enemies. The point of view in
Ender s Game is that of the characters. It is not, however, limited to one character. Most of the
novel is told in Ender s perspective, but there are parts, even whole chapters, where the point of
view is switched to that of Valentine s, one of the adult s, or even Peter s. There are parts of the
story where the commanders are talking about Ender and his progress . While in Valentine s point

The beaches of South Carolina are a prized quality and possession to the state and its people as it
provides beauty, enjoyment and the economic benefits of tourism year round. Due to storms,
natural processes of sand movement and development, the beaches of South Carolina,
specifically the Grand Strand beaches and local beaches of Sullivan s Island and Folly Beach,
are eroding at a rapid rate. Erosion is a natural process effected by sea level rise, storms and
currents and many techniques have been used in the past to combat erosion issues that threaten to

Sea level rise is also a significant factor of erosion because as the sea level has risen over time,
beaches and barrier islands have moved, transporting sand in the process. Sea level rise is a long
term process of coastal transformation as sand is steadily removed from beaches and barrier
islands and transported to other areas, creating less protection for beaches and estuaries. As sea
level rise continues to increase along the South Carolina coast, erosion by coastal flooding will
become an even greater problem (United States 1.1). One study on the correlation between sea
level rise and erosion concluded that sea level rise does increase erosion rates if nothing else due
to the fact that rising sea level enables high energy waves to reach farther up the beach and
redistribute sand offshore (Leatherman 55). Human activity through construction also has a
negative effect on beaches and erosion, for example the building of structures such as seawalls,
jetties and groins have negatively effected the movement of sand, thus not allowing the proper
amount of sand to reach the beaches and barrier islands to replace the moving sand due to other
factors (United States 1.1). Erosion is a natural process of coastal change due to many factors, but
human activity and development can increase the rate at which

In the twenty first century, a reader sees a God helping Odysseus enact revenge on a couple of

revenge murder is murder in our current society. However, based on a contemporary view, a
reader would understand why Odysseus killed all the suitors. Odysseus was defending his honor.
Back when the book was written, the justice system was not as complex as it is today. The
killing of men to defend your honor was seen as justifiable. In addition, the god and goddess in
that time had more of a meaning than in our society today. In the book, Homer assumes that we

Ancient Greek Architecture
Ancient Greece is considered by many historians to be the cultural foundation of Western
Civilization. Many aspects of Western life that remain visible today demonstrate how immensely
influential the Ancient Greek civilization was, with one of the most evident areas of influence
being Architecture. Ancient Greek Architecture is one of the earliest forms of architectural style.
Greek architects provided some of the finest and most extraordinary buildings that showcased their
artistic brilliance in terms of construction and design. One of the prime examples of the
architectural skills that the Greeks possessed is the Parthenon. In its day, and still to this date, the
Parthenon is perhaps one of the grandest structures built. The building was constructed between
447 and 432 BCE in the Age of Pericles , and is located on the highest point of the Acropolis, in
Athens. The construction of the temple followed the Persian attack on the city in 480 BCE, which
caused extensive damage to the buildings on the Acropolis. Pericles initiated the project to build
new buildings in order to replace the damaged ones and was therefore responsible for the
construction of all the grand buildings on the Acropolis, with the Parthenon being the most
spectacular. The Parthenon was designed by the architects Iktinos and Kallikratis, and the making
of the building was overseen by the sculptor Phidias one of the greatest artist of his day. The

run away from. In the story the two women Mrs. Peter and Mrs. Hale see that the bird cage door
is broken. For example Mrs. Peter says Why, look at this door. It s broke. One hinge is pulled

husband. The cage at one pint had a lock to keep the bird inside this showed how Mr. Wright
would keep Mrs. Wright away from the world around her. For example in the story Mrs. Hale
says Not having children makes less work but it makes a quiet house, and Wright out of work all
day, and no company when he did come in/(1.3 Lines 2 3). The narrator wants the audience to
understand how Mrs. Wright was isolated from the society. Mr. Wright had Mrs. Wright locked
up so she would never socialize or tell anyone how Mr. Wright really was this cruel awful man to
his wife. This symbols allow the audience to know how shady and gloomy the setting was for
Mrs. Wright. In the 1916 women had very few rights, and back then women could not divorce so

My first reason,to why dragon are nice creatures,is because dragons can be protective.Dragons have

Computer literacy The impact of mobile computing
INF 103
Bonita Spight Williams
September 8, 2014
Mobile computing is growing at an extremely rapid rate and you can see it everywhere you go.
You are probably doing it yourself multiple times a day and don t even realize it. Phones, laptops,
tablets, cloud storage and wireless networks that we use everyday are just a few elements of
mobile computing. A survey listed by Bowles states that 26% of smartphone users makes them feel
like they are being more productive than without them. (Bowles 2013) I can remember taking
typing class in high school and now almost every school in America issues tablets to their students.

There are a few highly advance word processing apps like Microsoft web apps, Polaris and
documents to go for the iPad. (Bowles 2013) I have used both Polaris and Microsoft but have
not tried documents to go. Polaris was extremely good on my Android Galaxy S3 smartphone
and let me do almost everything I could do at my desk out and about. I was a deployment manager
for the Air Force at the time so I always need to be able to view and edit Excel documents on the
fly. It was great to just be able to do it without having to call the office and have someone else do it
or try to make a mental note to do it later. I can say it saved my backside several times.
The iPhone was first release in 2007 and it was the first handheld device that really advanced the
web browsing experience (Newton, 2008). It was such an important event that TIME Magazine
awarded it with the invention of the year.
According to Newton this also was the signal that web marketing was entering a new day and age.
Say hello to the mobile web. You no longer needed to be tethered to your computer to browse the
Internet. The same thing applied as with almost every other tech breakthrough and other companies
followed Apple and these days any smartphone is able to do just about everything a computer can. I

Social Attachment Theory
Abstract Despite its roots in evolutionary theory, attachment theory has long split itself into two
factions: adaptive and maladaptive. For years, insecure attachment has been implicated as one of
the root causes for a number of psychological concerns. (Dozier, Stovall McClough, Albus, 2008)
Tsachi Ein Dor, however, theorized something different. His social defense theory posits an entirely
new interpretation of attachment that all attachment orientations have adaptive qualities for the
environment in which they exist and that society at large benefits when groups are made up of a
variety of attachment orientations. This paper seeks to better understand the schemas proposed by
social defense theory (sentinel, rapid fight flight, and collaborative)... Show more content on

Simpson and Belsky (2008) suggested that, in fact, Charles Darwin was the first attachment
theorist. His concept of evolutionary theory the idea that human social behaviors are a reflection
of selection pressures is viewed as one of the greatest intellectual accomplishments in the history of
science. (p. 133) This theory offered up the proposition that behaviors persist solely because they
are advantageous to a species survival. If you understand humans to be primarily social creatures,
then under this theory you would have assume that social connection was a behavior honed over
time by evolution because it was advantageous to survival. Bringing this idea into the world of
psychoanalysis, the object relations school of thought utilizes evolutionary theory to understand
humans as biologically wired for connection. This connection (or attachment, as Bowlby termed it)
shapes our personality structure and style. (6.5) To Bowlby, attachment is part of a pre programmed
behavioral set aimed at keeping an infant in close proximity to his/her main caregiver (typically a
mother figure). (3.4) In his first volume on attachment (year), Bowlby proposed that attachment is
consistent over time and that an infant will grow to relate to others in the same way he/she related
to his/her original attachment figure. This concept is often referred to in the attachment literature
as the child s working model. (3.2) While it is believed that this attachment relationship

Shoot For The Moon Persuasive Research Paper
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you ll land among the stars . This is the famous and well
known saying by Les Brown. In our unit, we found all kinds of evidence that proved that dreams
are both worth, and not worth it. In our unit, we read books, searched articles online, listened to
motivational speeches, and watched videos online, all arguing on whether dreams are worth
chasing or not. Of course, some dreams are just downright impossible or may seem too difficult;
but having a goal motivates people to keep moving forward down their path, it can give a person
happiness if achieved, and fulfilment in life. Even if they re never really achieved, we could
obtain these things, and possibly more. First of all, dreams can motivate and help egg oneself on,

desires, and it s mainly because of the chance that they could fail, or never ever reach them at all.
But without objectives, life will seem empty and meaningless. And without trying, there would
be absolutely no chance that anyone would ever achieve their dreams. So look at it this way,
goals and aspirations are always worth chasing and trying at. Sure, there could be a bad outcome,

International Business Project: The Czech Republic
Introduction
The Czech Republic is a small, landlocked country located in Central Europe, southeast of Germany,
bordered by Austria, Germany, Poland, and Slovakia. Slightly smaller than South Carolina, the
Czech Republic covers 78.866 square kilometers (sq km): 77,276 sq km of land and 1,590 sq km of
water.
Following the First World War, the closely related Czechs and Slovaks of the former Austro
Hungarian Empire merged cultures to form Czechoslovakia. During the interwar years, the country
s leaders were frequently preoccupied with meeting the demands of other ethnic minorities within
the republic, most notably the Sudeten Germans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Czech Republic became a member of the European Union (EU) on May 1, 2004. Through the
course of the accession process, most barriers to trade in industrial goods with the EU have been
eliminated. The process of accession had a positive impact on reform in the Czech Republic, and
implementation of EU directives and regulations continues. The U.S. Department of Commerce
Country Commercial Guide for the Czech Republic summarizes the economic trends and outlook
this way:
The principal industries are motor vehicles, machine building, iron and steel production,
metalworking, chemicals, electronics, transportation equipment, textiles, glass, brewing, china,
ceramics, and pharmaceuticals. The main agricultural products are sugar beets, fodder roots,
potatoes, wheat, and hops. As a small, open economy in the heart of Europe, economic growth is
strongly influenced by demand for Czech exports and flows of foreign direct investment.
Heavy industry received major economic support during the 1950s, but central planning resulted in
waste and inefficient use of industrial resources. Although the labor force was traditionally skilled
and efficient, inadequate incentives for labor and management contributed to high labor turnover,
low productivity, and poor product quality.

How Has Fashion Changed Over Time
Clothing creation methods have changed and evolved over the course of many years, and with
these changes, the clothing, too, changed drastically over the course of time. From the most basic
of clothing to complicated, ever changing fashion, what we wore changed as the methods of
creating it changed.
The middle ages were a time of constant political changes, and struggling to survive. As a result,
fashion for most people (commoners) tended to be a simple tied robe or tunic. This was a result of
the current clothing creation methods. Clothing creation was a long, painstaking process Clothes
were self or family made, and could also be purchased, but you d be lucky to get something that fit

No longer did people wear what they used to Clothing became increasingly fashionable, personal,
and stylish rather than a bare necessity. Belts, pins, sashes, laces, corsets, gemstones Things were
evolving, things we use to this day were being created thanks to these early fashion connoisseurs.
But when the industrial revolution hit, things headed back to the way they were. Simpler, less
unique clothing for the common man. However, the process of ready making clothing came
about. No longer was a tailor a part of the process for your everyday clothing. You could purchase,
at a much cheaper price than a tailor charged, clothing in one of several sizes.
Clothing stayed ready made for a long time. Tailors, individuals, and family members could still
make more personalized clothing, but the mass produced clothing was the way to go. It was
sturdy and not terrible to look at, so it remained. In the USA, the civil war had gone into full
gear. As a result, they needed clothing (Uniforms) to be produced faster than the current process
could allow. So factories figured out ways to churn out clothing even faster, but at a bigger loss of
personalization than ever before. The closest we came to having our own individual style was
choosing what size to

Criminal Activities On The Dark Web Essay
A severe dilemma associated with the increasing availability of the World Wide Web is the use
of the Dark Web as a means for criminal activities throughout the world. The Web consists of the
Surface Web which allows access to popular sites like YouTube and Facebook, the Deep Web,
which consist of private databases and libraries filtered out by common search engines like
Google, and the Dark Web which is intentionally hidden for reasons of anonymity; whether for
good or bad reasons. There are three main solutions that help fray criminal activities on the Dark
Web: the use of specialized government agencies to regulate and policethe Dark Web, the fixation
of resources to combat more serious criminal activities: and conducting more research of the
content and workings of the Dark Web. Further examining the need for more research of the Dark
Web will help elaborate why the use of specialized government agencies and the fixation of
resources on more serious crimes should not be accepted has valid solutions. With the advancement
of online anonymity tools, people world wide can now use the Web to communicate and interact
without leaving a trace of their activities or intentions. The ability to have full anonymity while
using the Web has created what is call the Dark Web. The Dark Web was started originally with
good intentions. For example, in the introduction section of the article The Dark Web, Marcia

home improvement company will provide you with a detailed, written estimate. This will include
a list of all of the materials that will be used, the amount and type of labor, any building permits
and other costs associated with your project. While it s not out of the question to have unforeseen

Top Quality Materials
From the wood, drywall, hardware, paint and stains to the windows and doors, ask about the
brands your contractor intends to use. Although you may not live in a million dollar mansion,
you don t have to settle for low quality materials. In fact, your home improvement contractor
should be using top quality materials for every project they do. Not only will they be more
durable, but they will also function and look better for years to come. Yes, the initial cost will be
a little higher for better materials. However, in the long run, having to get the job re done due to

Development Of The Human Brain
Development of the brain The human brain is the most complex structure in the universe. We are
still unsure of its complexity today. The human brain begins forming very early in prenatal life (

  • 2. Informative Speech On Sororities Informative Speech Outline Introduction: A)You see them everywhere. Walking around proudly in their Greek letters that they ve earned, and that they have come a long way to be able to wear. They come in all different colors such as pink and green, red and black, blue and white.... the list goes on. Even though they wear different letters and colors, they are all a part of one thing: a sorority. B)All of these different sororities had to come from somewhere right? C)There are over 80 sororities that are known today, only 27 of which are not affiliated, meaning that they aren t official but people still join them. D)According to usnews.com only 39% of women at The University of Alabama are in sorority. E)Today, I am going to educate you on the origin of sororities, next, compare their history from then until now, and the overall goal of sororities. A lot of people see the different sorority houses and girls around their campus, but don t know where they originated from. This brings me to my first main point. Body: Main Point 1: Sororities were originally created from the image of fraternities. A)According to dictionary.com, a fraternity is a local or national organization of male students, primarily for social purposes, usually with secret initiation and rites and a name composed of two or three Greek letters. B)When Fraternities were first thought of, they had to be kept secret. 1.They were known as secret societies and only had up to 30 members. 2.When they finally started getting recognition, women fraternities came about. C)Sororities were originally known as women fraternities. 1.They were known as women fraternities because that was the only word known to describe them in the 1800s. 2.According to appstate.edu some sororities still are required to use the word fraternity in their official name because they were already legally incorporated and couldn t change it. 3.The first woman fraternity was called The Adelphean Society. They were founded in 1851 at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. Because of this, more women fraternities started to surface and so it began. 4.The word sorority comes from the Latin word soror meaning sister. This word was first used in 1882 by the women of Gamma ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Life In Captivity For Animals Life in captivity for animals is comparable in some situations to humans living inside of a prison. The restrictions that are imposed on these animals while in captivity are unbearable living conditions that affect the animal both mentally and physically. The animals understand that this is not their home which leads to the breakdown of their psyche. One example of this comes from a zoo in the United Kingdom. In the year 1979, the Bristol Zoo gained a new animal which would become one of their biggest attractions. Misha the male polar bear caught the eye of the public with his unusual and odd behavior. Researchers that studied animal rights in the late twentieth century linked this behavior to Misha s enclosure at the zoo. Researchers came to the conclusion that the prison like living conditions that Misha encountered was the cause of his psychotic appearance. The public had described him as looking like a beast who was breaking down as a result of the captivity instead of an average polar bear in a zoo. The zoo was able to view Misha through surveillance during this entire process, similar to humans living in a prison or an asylum. According to the article by Andrew Flack, Following media attention from animal rights organizations and the media between 1985 and the early 1990s, Misha s psychotic appearance in a repeatedly evoked image of the prisons and asylums of the past, where surveillance, spectacle, and suffering collided to alter the natures of the beasts within ... • 6. Virginia And Massachusetts Compare And Contrast During the early 1600s many new colonies were building up strong economies that produced materials worthy of trade. These colonies were also experimenting with more freedoms and democratic systems away from the watchful crown of England. Two colonies, Virginia and Massachusetts, were both able to be self sustaining colonies despite the vast differences between the two. Virginia s strong economic independence and Massachusettsstrong political freedoms and independence allowed the regions to establish themselves separate from England. One of the original intentions of the colonies was to tap into some of the wealth and gold the spanish were finding in south america. However, when no gold was found in Virginia the colonies focused on producing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Massachusetts was established by puritans in order for them to be free from the Anglican church of England. Massachusetts political system was largely swayed by the puritan church and many laws enforced biblical rule. The colony was governed by a representative body that required the representatives, as well as any other legal men, to be within strong standing in the puritan church before they were permitted to hold any political office. This government allowed the colony and her people to govern themselves creating a trial ground for democracy. However, the incredibly strict beliefs of the puritans developed an intolerance of people of other faiths, such as the quakers, anglicans and catholics, and thus caused a lack of diversity of ideas in the colony. Virginia s government, on the other hand, was not governed as a bible commonwealth like in massachusetts, this allowed for more diversity in the colony. In Virginia status was determined by land ownership instead of standing in the church. This created a class system which excluded many of the freed indentured servants from any involvement in the government. This eventually caused Bacon s rebellion which despite its scale caused little immediate change in the Virginia government, however it did make the government more aware of the freed frontiersmen who were previously ignored. This eventually gave them more sway in the colonial government which allowed for the eventual formation of a democratic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Discipleship In Jesus Discipleship Teachers around the time when Jesus lived thought that learning was such that the people who wanted to learn should come to them to be taught. But Jesus felt differently and rather than waiting for people to come to him, he went out to find them and then chose them to be his followers. He called them disciples and this word means one who learns. But Jesus chose his disciples carefully as we are told in Mark 1:16 20 and also in Mark 3:13 19. In the first passage, Jesus appoints his first four disciples, Simon, Andrew, James and John. Jesus said to them Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. They have to rely on other people and as it is said in Morley s passage on discipleship, For they set out with nothing but the word of God in their hearts. When Jesus tells the disciples about the cost of discipleship (Mark 8:27 33) he means that they should be prepared to put God and his commandments first before anything else, and they must be prepared to suffer for their beliefs. Jesus told them that the most important commandment is Love God and your neighbour as yourself, (Exodus 20: 3 17) and many disciples throughout the ages have made many sacrifices to try and put this teaching into practise. When Jesus said to take up the cross, we can assume that because we all have a cross to bear, we should take up our vocation, and that means for us to follow Jesus regardless of the sacrifices we have to make. When we are told we should follow him, it means that we should travel down the same road as Jesus and suffer the many trials of being a disciple. But, in Mark 10:29 31 we are told about the rewards of discipleship and the strange reward they receive for their suffering. Jesus says this to the disciples after he tells them the story of the Rich Young Man. In this passage, the rich young man asks Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus tells him that he must give up his wealth, but the man is unable to do so. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Solid Power Of Discrimination The solid power of discrimination in modern Mexico stems from the construction of Mexican society during the Spanish colonization in the 1500 s. One of the most powerful weapons concealed by the European during the Conquest was hegemony. Hegemony is a basic principle of social control, in which a ruling class dominates others ideologically, with a minimum of physical force, by making its dominance seem natural and inevitable (Chasteen, 2001). Thus, by using hegemony, the Spaniard convinced the native peoples of America to accept their place below the Spaniards and forced them to see the conquerors as superior beings worthy of obedience. By establishing their superiority, the Spaniards were able to control and dominate the indigenous people, forcing the Spanish culture, religion, and language onto the population. As a result, indigenous people started to distance themselves from their roots and their own people, creating a damaging prejudice and bigotry that has been passed down through generations in Mexican families. Indigenous people turned against each other. They mixed with the Spaniards creating new castes, dividing the people and providing them with power and social status based on the lightness of their skin. This feeling exists even today, white skinned people are seen as more honest and trustworthy, thus deserving privileges and power; while the darker skinned people are seen as a resemblance of the indigenous people indicating inferiority and implying a need to ... (1997) provide a summary of theoretical on the review of congestion measures demonstrated at the outset of this project that a number of different approaches are used to quantify the level of congestion for an urban area. Although there are a number of different congestion measures, travel time measures offer the best means for estimating the economic impacts of the congestion. There are several reasons for this: 1. Travel time corresponds directly to the traveler s experience of congestion, when measured from a given origin to destination; 2. As indicated below, efforts to estimate the direct user costs of congestion are based on placing a value on travel time, often as a percentage of the wage rate; and 3. Most traffic ... According to the municipality s website, Windhoek is growing at a rate of approximately 4.3% per year and within 20 years Windhoek will have to cater to the transport needs of 1 million residents. At the moment, there are approximately 330 000 people living in Windhoek and more than half of them work in the city center while some learners travel to school in the city from Katutura and other suburbs every day. Apart from public transportation, which consists of taxis and municipal buses, the number of private vehicles in the city seem to be increasing daily as more and more people buy cars and traffic congestion gets worse as most of these vehicles use the three main routes into town. According to IJG Securities statistics of vehicle sales, 6 373 vehicles have been purchased in Windhoek alone since the beginning of the year, consisting of 3 102 passenger vehicles, 2 841 light commercial vehicles (bakkies) and 430 extra heavy vehicles (buses and trucks). Topic: For the period before 1750, analyze the ways in which Britain s policy of Salutary Neglect influenced the development of American society as illustrated in the following: Legislative assemblies, commerce, religion. Before 1750, the undocumented British policy of salutary neglect greatly impacted the methods through which American colonists regulated their daily lives. Through mercantilist thought processes, Britain created the colonies merely for gain of the mother terrain itself. Therefore, it did not give them any specific attention and allowed them to simply rule itself by personal means and this idea makes up salutary neglect. Primarily colonial leadership could make this decision, because the gist of the situation comprised of keeping the slaves from taking advantage of the fact that England allowed freedom under certain circumstances. Economically, the Crown did not provide as much assistance as needed to the colonists of the New World. Trade involved mainly countries other than England, because this way profits were maximized. England, once again, created its colonies for mercantilist reasons: profits and only profits. In reaction to these trade schemes, the Navigation Acts were enforced. Smuggling then grew extremely popular mainly because of price differences and simple convenience. Agriculturally, the main crops were indigo, sugarcane, tobacco, cotton, and rice. Due to high demand, several workers were needed. Through the Triangular trade, raw materials went to England and the Northern Colonies, slaves came to the plantation dominated areas of the colonies, and manufactured goods went to the West Indies. Molasses was turned into rum in New England and traded for more slaves as well. Religious freedom was one of the main causes for English peoples to move to the New World. They escaped from the de catholicization of the Church of England in order to believe in what they wanted to belive in. The government once again did not pay any heed to set an official religious set of rules in the colonies, therefore allowing the people to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In scenario (b), all three freelancers bid a price very close to $80, which delivers a consistent message to the buyer that the common value of the IT service is $80. Hence, the buyer is less uncertain to infer the common value as $80. In scenario (a), however, the three freelancers have very different bid prices, which makes a buyer more uncertain about the common value of the IT service ($80). In sum, a buyer will have higher (lower) common value uncertainty when bid price dispersion is high (low). We argue that the common value could serve as a practical benchmark to evaluate each freelancer s bid price and infer how much more or less a buyer should pay a particular freelancer (to overcome private value uncertainty). Using our running example, in Scenario (a), the three bids prices ($40, $80, $120) are highly dispersed around the average of $80, and it will be very difficult for a buyer to evaluate any of these bids in terms of how much more or less she would need to pay a particular freelancer. Specifically, the lowest priced freelancer may deliver a low quality service, while the highest priced freelancer would reap the buyer s potential surplus. Just as I was about to open my eyes I sensed a strong surge of pain that overwhelmed my body, as I looked down at my legs, I saw a sea of orange flames devouring my bed sheets. It was in that moment that I realized that my house was on fire, and my legs were burned. This is an example of how most Americans experience home fires. In fact, residential properties have the most fire related deaths (76.5%), fire injuries (78.0%) and fire dollar loss (55.0%) in the United States (United States Fire Administration, 2013). There are two types of content that are present in movies and books, but the content is much more important in children s movies because the media can teach the children how to interact socially when they are older. The content of media can be broken down into two different categories that are called manifest and latent content. Manifest content is the intended message of the media, which is what the media is trying to promote for the young viewers and readers of children s books and movies (Structural Functionalism, 2017). There are more many different examples of manifest content throughout the three Toy Storymovies, but some stand out more than others. One of the main messages of Toy Story is that teamwork is key, and it is important to work together in order to achieve success (Disney, 2016). The latent content of media are the messages that are unintended and may have a negative impact on the young consumers of content (Structural Functionalism, 2017). The books storyline was based on the issues that were occurring in the late nineteenth century during the populist era debates. Every character in this story represents a specific person or message to the overall narrative Baum wanted to tell. It is unlikely that only one type of leadershipwould be required during a task, so if a leader cannot adapt, the task may not be completed. The team are expected to follow orders without question or negotiation, therefore this could demoralise a team due to their opinions and ideas not being heard. It is best to use authoritarian when: a leader knows all the information, there is a strict deadline to which the team must work to, or the team is used to this style of leadership as the leader can be very demanding which people may not be used to. Authoritarian leadership may not get the best response from a team as it mainly relies on intimidation to work efficiently. It was because of him that Macedonia lost its manpower through the strenuous battles he continuously fought. He left it as a weakened kingdom. His empire is given so much credit but it was only based on rapid military conquest and died right after his death (Stoneman 92 94). It is believed that Alexander conquered to rule, not to blend cultures. Heavy drinking led to disastrous incidents and hastened his death. An example of such a disaster was the burning down of Persepolis in a drunken revel. This is not an attribute of a good leader. He also lacked long range planning and neglected his kingdoms future by exhausting himself in warfare while he delayed fathering a royal successor. His selfishness is proved by his act of casually killing any threats to the throne at the beginning of his reign (Sacks 15). Due to storms, natural processes of sand movement and development, the beaches of South Carolina, specifically the Grand Strand beaches and local beaches of Sullivan s Island and Folly Beach, are eroding at a rapid rate. Erosion is a natural process effected by sea level rise, storms and currents and many techniques have been used in the past to combat erosion issues that threaten to wash away beaches and homes in the process. Sea level rise is also a significant factor of erosion because as the sea level has risen over time, beaches and barrier islands have moved, transporting sand in the process. Sea level rise is a long term process of coastal transformation as sand is steadily removed from beaches and barrier islands and transported to other areas, creating less protection for beaches and estuaries. As sea level rise continues to increase along the South Carolina coast, erosion by coastal flooding will become an even greater problem (United States 1.1). One study on the correlation between sea level rise and erosion concluded that sea level rise does increase erosion rates if nothing else due to the fact that rising sea level enables high energy waves to reach farther up the beach and redistribute sand offshore (Leatherman 55). Human activity through construction also has a negative effect on beaches and erosion, for example the building of structures such as seawalls, jetties and groins have negatively effected the movement of sand, thus not allowing the proper amount of sand to reach the beaches and barrier islands to replace the moving sand due to other factors (United States 1.1). Ancient Greek Architecture is one of the earliest forms of architectural style. Greek architects provided some of the finest and most extraordinary buildings that showcased their artistic brilliance in terms of construction and design. One of the prime examples of the architectural skills that the Greeks possessed is the Parthenon. In its day, and still to this date, the Parthenon is perhaps one of the grandest structures built. The building was constructed between 447 and 432 BCE in the Age of Pericles , and is located on the highest point of the Acropolis, in Athens. The construction of the temple followed the Persian attack on the city in 480 BCE, which caused extensive damage to the buildings on the Acropolis. Pericles initiated the project to build new buildings in order to replace the damaged ones and was therefore responsible for the construction of all the grand buildings on the Acropolis, with the Parthenon being the most spectacular. For years, insecure attachment has been implicated as one of the root causes for a number of psychological concerns. (Dozier, Stovall McClough, Albus, 2008) Tsachi Ein Dor, however, theorized something different. His social defense theory posits an entirely new interpretation of attachment that all attachment orientations have adaptive qualities for the environment in which they exist and that society at large benefits when groups are made up of a variety of attachment orientations. If you understand humans to be primarily social creatures, then under this theory you would have assume that social connection was a behavior honed over time by evolution because it was advantageous to survival. Bringing this idea into the world of psychoanalysis, the object relations school of thought utilizes evolutionary theory to understand humans as biologically wired for connection.
