Rape And Sexual Assault And Rape
Rape and sexual assault have been a growing epidemic not only in The United States, but all around the world as well. There are many stories based
on these issues that also deal with something called date rape drugs. Rape, sexual assault, and date rape drugs are all very closely related and can all
occur in the same situation. Date rape drugs can be used to lead to a sexual assault against someone and then possibly rape. These topics are all very
serious because "There is an average of 207,754 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year." ("Sexual Assault Prevention")
Sexual assault and rape are similar but not entirely the same. Sexual assault is any sexual activity, ranging from visual to verbal, that someone
engages in that they did not give consent to. (Lukima) Rape is considered to be sexual assault and is the actual act of sexual penetration that the
individual being raped did not agree to. (Berger) Rape is very prominent and stories are always present in the media discussing it including things
like college parties that lead to rape because alcohol and drugs were involved. Rape and sexual assault are so common that "Current trends project
that 1 in 3 American women will be sexually assaulted at some point during their life." (Berger) More specifically, date rape is when a drug is used
to assist the rape or assault and it can be with a person the victim does or does not know. (Weiss) A topic as serious as this has to have preventative

Prescription Drug Abuse And Its Effects On The Society
In the past year studies by the Centers for Disease Control have shown that one in twenty people in the United States alone us painkillers just for
pleasure. Abuse of prescription drugs is a huge issue in our country, although many people use them solely for medical reasons, most people do not.
According to Nora D. Wolkow, M.D., "An estimated 52 million people (20 percent) of those aged 12 and older) have used prescription drugs for
non–medical reasons at least once in their lifetime." (National Institute on Drug Abuse). This is now extremely common and is only becoming a
bigger problem by the day. Prescription drug abuse causes a crippling affect on the abusers body by creating serious brain damage, increasing the rate
of crime, endangering the lives of the abusers and the people around them, as well as ruining families completely, and taking a huge toll on the lives of
teenagers and the elderly. "Prescription drug abuse is defined as the taking of medication in a manner other than that prescribed or for a different
condition than that which the medication is described." (Rice 342–343). A huge body of our society is affected by becoming addicted to prescription
drugs. This often happens when one is in pain over his/her bodily conditions, and is prescribed either an opioid, depressants, or stimulants. A simple
problem such as that turns into an even bigger one when the abuser becomes addicted. Addiction occurs when dopamine, a neurotransmitter, links on to
receptors and

Andrew Luste and the Date Rape Drug
In 2002, 2003, and 2004, Andrew Luster was convicted of dosing three women with a date rape drug known as GHB (Gamma Hydroxybutyric Acid).
The first accuser was a twenty–one year old college student, the second a seventeen year old, and the third accuser has been in a relationship with
Luster until she found out that he raped her the first night they met. He was found guilty and is charged with rape, oral copulation, sodomy, a fight to
avoid prosecution, and was sentenced to fifty years in jail with one million dollar bail (Wikipedia). Conflict theory would best describe the motive that
Andrew Luster portrayed within his crime. This type of theory reflects that humans try to increase their wealth and fortune at the expense of others; to
get what they want even in opposition. This is the fundamental view that crime is the economic and social forces within society. The elite and wealthy
usually aim for the poor in hopes of de–humanizing them and feeling worthless. This would apply to the social norms, in which, the social norm is for
men to be dominant and women to be submissive (Arndt 2014). Andrew Luster had all the wealth in the world that he could of asked for–being an heir
of his great–grandfather who succeeded in the cosmetic industry. What he was after was the power. Clinical psychologist, Dr. Judy Kuriansky,
mentioned that to have sex with an unconscious person is having no feelings or needs for the other, and also comments, "it is infantile, hostile, and

An Issue Plaguing Americ Date Rape
An Issue Plaguing America
Date rape is a form of acquaintance rape. The definition of date rape and acquaintance rape two phrases are often used interchangeably, but date rape
specifically refers to a rape in which there has been some sort of romantic or potentially sexual relationship between the two parties involved. It's a
massive issue and is getting worse day by day, despite the continuous effort of law enforcement as well as many aware–raising organizations. Date rape
is a grossly widespread issue among the United States and needs to be looked at closely and taken more seriously in order to get a handle on the
constantly rising statistics, the mental and physical dangers of the victims, and the large amount of illegal pharmacies that are online supplying the
very people who commit these heinous crimes.
Date rape can sometimes be a tedious topic to converse upon between male and female but nevertheless, it needs to be. Rape isn't something that is
wanted or desired by anyone. It is a violent act committed by a predator, often from lustful desires, as an attempt to display power and control over
the victim ("What Is Rape ..."). Numerous people only think that rape is a physical state, which isn't true at all. Rape can be verbal, visual, or just
about anything whatsoever that forces the person into any kind of sexual contact that they don't provide consent to be a part of ("What Is Rape ...").

Rape and Sexual Assault
Sexual assault and rape has always been a social and public issue in the United States. A majority of the time, women become the victims, while men
become the perpetrators. National surveys in the United States show that one in six women has experienced an attempted or completed rape. Consent
appears to be a critical factor in determining whether assault or rape has taken place. Women have a higher chance of being raped by who they are
acquainted with rather than strangers.
In many states, the legal definition of first and second degree sexual assault involves non–consensual sexual contact or intercourse. Sexual assault
encompasses completed or attempted penetration, abusive sexual contact, and noncontact sexual abuse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many male toddlers aren't taught that raping a person is not only immoral but also that they have to respect a woman's choice. Researchers and
sociologists believe that when men and women are more aware and educated of rape, there would be less instances of sexual assault in colleges and
universities. There are many instances of rape going unreported simply due to young women who are involved do not perceive the incident as rape
until they realize it later. Students perception revealed that many young people do not have accurate images of what sexual assault is. As of recently,
Time Magazine posts that California's new law requires colleges to give consent before sex. This bill was introduced by Senator Kevin de Leon during
the early summer of 2015. This bill also gives additional protection to students and sexual assault victims, including on–campus advocates for victims,
and also educational programs for incoming college freshman. There are many ways to bring awareness of sexual assault and rape culture. One way
is to teach children the language of consent. Other ways to raise awareness is to allow teachers to exercise the education of consent. A rape victim

Sexual Assault on College Campus In America, sexual assault is increasing on campuses. Colleges and Universities are insanely lenient with the
policies of sexual assault and misconduct. Undergraduates get the worse since they are new and don't expect it to happen to them. Date rape drugs are
being used more often than any other type of assault. Over half of victims don't report the assault, because they don't believe it's critical enough. Others
never get justice for the crimes the rapist commits. "A relatively small percentage of students believe it is very or extremely likely they will experience
sexual assault or misconduct. A larger percentage of students believe that sexual assault... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Nonconsensual sexual contact involving drugs and alcohol constitute a significant percentage of the incidents" (AAU). Gamma
Hydroxybutyrate(GHB) or Rohypnol are the best–known date rape drugs. Most women don't report the assault or rape because they don't think that
their claim is reliable since they were drinking and have no remembrance of what occurred to them. Club drugs are also common date rape drugs for
college students that party a lot. Ecstasy and Methamphetamines are the most frequent and familiarized drugs associated with date rape in clubs and/or
around campus parties. "A 2006 study funded by the National Institute of Justice found that of the estimated 100,000 sexual assaults reported in the
United States each year, about 62 percent were "drug–facilitated" and 5 percent of victims were given date–rape drugs" (INVW). When asking women
about the assaults and getting drugged most wouldn't be able to understand what happened or they don't realize it in time to get tested. "GHB is also a
sexual stimulant, so perpetrators will often later say that the woman accusing them of assault is the one who initiated the sexual encounter. Later, the
woman may not be able to piece together what happened to her in time to get herself tested" (INVW). This is not the only traumatizing thing these

College Campus Shootings
College life is hard enough as is, but now college campuses are becoming more and more dangerous and something needs to be done. Students should
be able to enjoy every minute of college life without fear of something awful happening to them. College students face dangers of shootings, mugging,
burglary, and sexual assault, among other things. College campuses are more dangerous than ever and if colleges don't take action soon, kids will
stop going to college out of pure fear. Taking preventative measures to assure that these things do not happen is the most important part of making
college campuses safe for students. In order to prevent such dangers, campuses must keep guns off campus except with select faculty and security
guards, keep sidewalks well–lit with "blue light" security systems spread throughout campus, and take action to prevent sexual assault. Mass shootings
are terrible tragedies that can and should be prevented in any way possible. Perhaps the best solution would be to implement gun control laws for the
entire country, but until that happens there are actions that we can take to be sure students are safe from gun violence on campus. Currently there are
10 states that allow anyone to carry a gun on campus, including Arkansas, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas; and 23 states that leave the decision to ban or
allow guns up to each college or university, including Arizona, Indiana, Maine, Ohio, and West Virginia. ("Guns on Campus," 2017, para. 5

Date rape may involve sex that leaves the victim feeling confused and traumatized. The victims are usually confused because they are still thinking
about how they knew the assailant from work, mutual friends, or at school. The issue of sexual consent is a big problem of date rape. Any type of sex
forced on a date or person who has not consented is rape. In our society people think that since you're in a relationship you could never refuse
sexual encounters. Intimate relationships are one of the main reasons date rape is not recognized as a serious issue. Sexual consent by force is
just wrong and shouldn't be used. People should just accept the word "no" and be done with it. The fact is that they still go through great extents

Rape And Social Development Programs
Introduction
Date Rape is the well–known act of persuaded, or potentially forced, unconsented sex with another person. There are numerous explanations for why
date rapes, or rapes in general, occur. As laid out in some academic papers, prescribed cultural masculine ideologies may be the explanation for the
motive of the act. Merton and Durkeim's Strain Theory gives some bases in the explanation of this, as pertaining the strain involved in achieving these
ideologies (goals). Some initiatives by social programs prevent rape crimes by educating men about the false masculinity portrayed to them and to
fight the culture surrounding it. Strain theory, as well as social learning theory, give some explanation to why date rapes are committed and social
development programs may be a preventative. Specifically, what is date rape in legal terms and who does it involve?
Criminal/Deviant Behaviour
Rape is traditionally defined as 'the act of sexual intercourse committed by a man with a woman not his wife and without her consent' (Anderson,
1997). In Canada, "rape was taken out of the Criminal Code and replaced with "sexual assault". Sexual assault in Canada does not have a definitive
definition rather just assault that is sexual in nature. It is also split into three different levels of charges: Common, weapon/bodily harm, and
aggravated (Depending on the severity of bodily harm). The sexual portion is just anything that relates to someone's sexual orientation. Date Rape as

Abstract Date rape is a serious offense and should be not taken lightly. The National Crime Victimization Survey and the Uniform Crime Reporting

important to know the definition, and how date rape is distinguished between stranger rape, statutory rape, and spousal rape. It's also important to
understand the drugs that are used for date rape and how they are used. The relationship between the offender and the victim can also provide a better

(Doerner and Lab, pg 25) * Strengths of NCVS – This survey provides increased reports of crime that are not reported to law enforcement agencies.
(Doerner and Lab, pg 32) Another strength is that it provides more information than the UCR. This survey provides more detailed information to
gather data. This information can be used to provide more statistics such as which sex is more susceptible to being victimized by date rape in a
specific area. (Doerner and Lab, pg 36) The third strength is it provides more information of the victim and offender relationship. (Doerner and Lab,
pg 37) * Weaknesses of NCVS– One weakness of this survey is that it has limited scope. (Crime, Offenders, and Victims, pg 66) This survey only
looks at two subject areas such as personal crimes and household crimes. Another weakness is that the data may not be reliable because the victims
cannot always recall the events due to the trauma. (Crime, Offenders, and Victims, pg 66) * Definition of date rape and how date rape is

There are three main drugs used in date rape, which include Rohypnol, Gamma–Hydroxybutyerate, and Ketamine. Rohypnol is a sedative with ten
times the potency of Valium. They come in pill form, which is white and round. Anybody could buy this drug on the street for fewer than five dollars.
The effects of this drug include drowsiness, dizziness, slurred speech, amnesia, muscle relaxation, loss of control, and gastrointestinal disturbances that
can last up to twelve or more hours. Street names for this drug include Roofies, which is most commonly used, Rib, Roach–2, Roopies, Rope, R–2,

who used Rohypnol recreationally, 10% said they were physically or sexually assaulted while under its influence. If enough of the drug is taken, a
person may experience a state of automatism or dissociation. After the drug wears off, users may find themselves unable to remember what happened

Abuse In Teenagers
Alcohol abuse in teens has become a huge problem across the United States. "Moreover, alcohol is the most commonly used drug among
adolescences"(Komro & Toomey, 2002, p.5). Teens use this drug way more than tobacco or any other drug. According to the National Institute on
Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, "People ages 12 through 20 drink 11 percent of allalcohol consumed in the United States. Although youth drink less
often than adults do, when they do drink, they drink more. That is because young people consume more than 90 percent of their alcohol by binge
drinking" (Anonymous, 2017, p.1). The reason that youth under 21 consume alcohol is because of peer pressure, increased independence, desire to do
it, stress, other reasons are family problems like: parent's divorced, family member sick or passed away. The first obvious reason for a teen to
drink alcohol is peer pressure. What exactly is pressure? Peer pressure is when one's age group is inspired to do something whether they like it or
not. Peer pressure has a couple of different types. For example: direct negative peer pressure is when a friend is directly asking someone to do
something. This kind of peer pressure can be very affective in teens because teens are afraid of ridicule and losing their friends if they don't do what the
other person asked of them. "This behavior then shapes the child's environment, as he or she chooses friends and situations that support further
drinking" (Anonymous, 2006, p.22). Teens think

Victims, rapists, rape culture, sexual assault, and date rape drugs are all key terms that are necessary to understand when dealing with rape. (Source 2)
Sometimes people rape to assert their dominance, and to keep a position of power they may have over someone. When an attacker commits rape, it is
not a gesture of love, thoughtfulness, or anything of the sort. It is to humiliate someone else in order to build their own self worth. It is to dominate
someone and provide a sense of power to the rapist, which can be used to threaten, and intimidate victim(s). The fear instilled by the rapist is utilized to
manipulate their victims. This fear causes emotional trauma, and can severely dysfunction the victim's way of life.
Victims are the people who are targeted for rape and sexual assault. They can be men, women, or children. People are victimized from all races,
genders, and sexual orientations. The rape of men is a minority, only 3% of American men have experienced rape in their lifetime. (Source 1) Rape

The Research Phase Of This English Essay Consisted Of Many
The research phase of this English essay consisted of many hours of preparation in regards to finding a topic of interest that I could research and learn
more about. Initially I decided that I was going to research on how Democracy has affected the economy in the United States throughout history, but
quickly changed topics after realizing that there was little information on the topic at hand. After much thought, I finally found an interesting topic that
would have been a little easier to research with an ample number of sources at the ready. The research question that I wanted to learn more about ended
up being the ramifications of date rape, more in depth, the effects it has on the victims. I have had very little personal experience with ... Show more

I think that this topic dominated the field, because more information is known about the drugs used to commit date rape, than the repercussions on the
actual victim.
The main causes of date rape are drugs which come in different forms and have different names. "Drugs are used as sedatives to assist the date rape.
Usually the drugs are mixed with the drinks. The main form of date rape drugs are alcohols, Gamma– hydroxybutyrate (GHB) and Benzodiazepines
like Rohypnol. These drugs make the victim unconscious or powerless to fight rape" (Cowling 13). There are many ways to prevent date rape;
however, there are also ways to receive help if a victim falls victim to date rape. The majority of accounted rape is "date rape" in which the victim
and the assailant are acquainted in some way. When forced sex occurs between two people who already know each other it is known as date rape
and people who know less of one another is called acquaintance rape. Rape is an act of aggression and violence. Rape is never the victims fault; it is
always the rapist fault. While doing this research, studies showed that sixty percent of date rape cases happened to girls that are in college. "Contrary
to the belief of most of the people that rape is committed by total stranger, the highest incidence of sexual assault is reported from someone who
knows the victim. The college students are the main victims of date rape" (Berger 120). Many campus parties are

Historically, male rape in ancient rime periods was considered a right of victorious solider against soldiers of the defeated warring faction. The
philosophy behind this was the male who was sexually penetrated lost his "manhood" and was no longer seen as a warrior in the public's eye. This
custom has been practiced as late as World War 1 and World War II in the European countries. Back during Roman times, in Persia and Iran, gang
raping was the absolute punishment for adulterers and men who slept with women from other cultures. In modern day when talking about male rape,
we only hear about it happening in hails and prisons. However, within the last couple of decades male rape in the general population been brought to
the attention of the public. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics from 1994, approximately 60,000 males aged [twelve] and older were raped

Persuasive Essay On Rape
Times Are Changing
Imagine, a woman walking down the street on her college campus after finishing up with a late class. A man jumps out of an alley, causing her to
drop all her books in a moment of fright. With no way to defend herself, she panics. However, the woman remembers that she received a necklace
for her birthday that calls 911 and she happened to wear it today. This invention saved her life, just like it can for so many others. Sexual assault is a
terrifying subject, but if there was some way to fight back, a victim would not feel as scared in the situation. All over the world a spotlight is being put
on rape. All over the world, rape is becoming a more common problem that is being brought to light. One in five women are sexually assaulted in
their lifetime, therefore, rape prevention products such as Drink Test Coasters, Circle of Six, and Stiletto should be required for women to have in
order to keep them confident and secure in their safety.
Sexual assault has spread like wildfire in the past 20 years, despite what college campuses and the general public has done to prevent it such as
inserting programs that teach women about personal safety. While rape has been a hot topic lately, it was still impacting lives in the 1990s. Drugs
have been a big part in the growth of sexual assault. Research says, "Emergency rooms in 21 of the largest cities report that mentions of MDMA,
GHB, Ketamine, and Rohpynol increased from 337 in 1994 to more than 6,700 in 1999" (Ellis

Substance abuse also played a part in fraternity rape culture. Often, alcohol was supplied deliberately to women to make them less inhibited or
blackout drunk, allowing the men to perform sexual acts with less resistance (Jozkowski). The alcohol interfered with the brain's functioning, resulted
in poor judgement, and caused a woman to be overly flirtatious ("Alcohol's Effect on the Body"). If a woman acted this way, a fraternity member
interpreted this as consent for sex. The alcohol could be used to confuse or incapacitate women making it impossible for her to consent to sexual acts.
The fraternity brothers neglected to recognize that legal and ethical sexual behavior requires cognizant consent from all parties involved. Another
method to incapacitate women, involved perpetrators secretly slipping date rape drugs into drinks, ("Date Rape Drugs"). Rohypnol, commonly known
as roofies, caused judgement loss, unconsciousness, hallucinations, and drowsiness ("Date Rape Drugs"). Although roofies were the most commonly
used drugs, they were gradually being replaced by drugs less likely to discolor or cloud beverages ("Date Rape Drugs"). Other drugs commonly used
included Gamma Hydroxybutyric Acid and Ketamine ("Date Rape Drugs"). Gamma Hydroxybutyric acid comes in a liquid form that is odorless and
colorless; therefore, undetectable to the target ("Date Rape Drugs"). In situations with date rape drugs, the victim's ability to consent or even maintain

Date Rape among College Students
It's a typical Saturday night at Purdue tonight. The biggest party of the year is happening at the Gama Alpha Fraternity, and you were invited. You
don't know many of the people that will be attending the party; you only know Jack from Psychology class. You say what the heck, start getting
ready and off to the party you go. As soon as you walk in the door you're greeted by Jack, which he offers you a drink, and you take it. But what you

be spiked without anyone knowing, especially at a fraternity party because some of the guys are depending on that to get their way with the girls.
Do not drink from punch bowls what so ever. The final solution to avoiding a date rape is if you're going to drink, limit your intake. Granted it's a
party but when you act stupid and take shot after shot and play games, you're asking for trouble. As I mentioned before, alcohol is the number one

drugs because that's your thing, limit your intake as well. Drugs can be mixed with one another, and you never know what the outcome could be. It
could even be the worst possible outcome – death. The only thing you can do if you're going to go to a party, drink and try drugs is to be careful. Try
and get to know the people around you and the environment beforehand.

The Role Of Rape In Laurie Halse Anderson's Speak
In Speak, Laurie Halse Anderson utilizes mirrors to provide the readers with insight into the mind of the protagonist, Melinda Sordino, an isolated
and lonely high school freshmen with the weight of what happened to her at a party over the summer break. Prior to the party, Melinda was not
extremely popular, but she had a core group of friends. Her assault changed all of that. According to a report in the late 1990's, "the number of
incidents of date rape has slowly declined. In the 1990s, the time period for Anderson's novel, 1.1 million women reported intimate violence in 1993 as

Melinda notices that while in the car, Heather's mom is watching her and she feels judged. She then tries to hide herself from Heather's mom, but
continues to look at her own reflection and comes to the conclusion that "The scabs on [her] lips are especially gross in that little rectangle mirror"
proving that she is slowly deteriorating inside and out following her rape (Anderson 82). Throughout the novel, she constantly bites her lips as a
nervous tick and they are always bloody and scabbed. She is aware of this and how disgusting they look but cannot stop, therefore it contributes to
self–destruction of her body along with her mind. In another section of the book Melinda is scrutinizing the image that stares back at her in the mirror
and she "push[es] her ragged mouth against the mirror. A thousand bleeding crusted lips push back" (125). Her lips are becoming irritated along with
her mind. The thoughts she has about herself are twisted and always negative. She is destroying herself mentally which ultimately results in the
adaptation of low self–esteem. Hart writes that, "she has little protection between her outer and inner self" proving that her thoughts are uncontrolled
and lead to impulse habits that physically destroy her (Hart 264). Melinda is breaking apart, yet no one notices the subtle changes in her body that are

It also provided the true magnitude of crime that was reliable.

d.NCVS Weaknesses
It has been criticized that it is limited in its scope because the data it collects is a fraction of all crimes committed in the United States.
Another problem is that murder victims cannot be interviewed, and therefore, no data is collected or submitted for the survey.
Early surveys by the NCVS were felt that the information obtained in the interview of the victim may not be reliable. Interviewees can be vulnerable
to several types of biases including memory errors, errors of deception, telescoping, and sampling errors.

Injustice Essay : The Blaming Of Rape
The Blaming of Rape Rape; the crime, typically committed by a man, of forcing another person to have sexual intercourse with the offender against
their will. This man's actions can scar the victim for life. It is very common for a man to take advantage of a women. This rape or sexual abuse can
have life–long effects on a woman. It can change how she views any new or previous man in her life, how she views herself personally, and how
she does things on a day to day basis or in other activities. But in most cases, the victims go through a period in which they blame themselves for what
had happened or they don't speak out about it because they are afraid, embarrassed, or ashamed. It is not a man's right to any women's body or to
overpower and without consent to get what he wants. Rape is usually said as being the women's fault for letting a man take her somewhere or letting
him into where she is, also based on what she wears, or being intoxicated or drugged but is not their fault.
A woman are usually blamed for rape because people say she put herself in the position to get raped. Katie Koestner was raped in her college dorm
room when she invited a man over. They were dancing and having fun and all of a sudden, he pushed her to the ground and raped her. The next day
she called her dad and he said, "It would not have happened if you had not let him in your room, Katie," before hanging up on her. By Witw Staff,

Also, there would be less prisoners serving time for lesser, nonviolent crimes. During the 1970's, the tough on crime movement contributed to a drastic
increase in punishment for lesser crimes and led a massive increase in imprisonment, even though the crime rates stayed the same (Gascon 2014). It is
disputed that even though the movement was attractive to voters, it is doing more harm than good. Ever since the 1960's, the amount of individuals
detained has increased roughly about ten times than normal (Gascon 2014). Expanding a prison population requires more places, such as prisons and
jails, to detain prisoners and California had built "22 new prisons in just 30 years" (Gascon 2014). Building new prisons and detaining more
prisoner's costs money and this money will come out of taxpayers. Newt Gingrich and B. Wayne Hughes Jr. said in an editorial that "prison is for
people that we are afraid of, but we have been filling them with many folks we are just mad at." They also state if the proposition is passed it will
bring some light on the face that over $60,000 is spent on one inmate alone per year, while less than $10,000 is spent on each student in schools

What Is Date Rape? Essay
What is date rape? Date rape is forcible sexual intercourse by a male or female friend of a woman or man, during a voluntary social engagement in
which the woman or man did not intend to submit to the sexual advances and fought the acts by verbal refusals or denials to stop, and/or physical
resistance. What would you do if someone blamed you for something you did not want to do? This type of act usually happens in college campuses and
is critically difficult to prove in a court case. Victim blaming is wrong because the victim is not responsible for the assault that was not consented, the
blame is shifted from the rapist to the victim, and prevents the victim from continuing with their daily routines. One of the most common sexual assault
strategies are drug abuse. The contribution of alcohol and other drugs to sexual assault has been increasingly recognized during the last fifteen to
twenty years. Many drugs, alone or in combination, have the potential to be used to facilitate sexual assault, including alcohol, benzodiazepines,
antihistamines, antidepressants, marijuana, cocaine and gamma–hydroxybutyrate [GHB]. This list is extensive and is growing as new drugs become
available and new interactions are identified. Bernadette Butler and Jan Welch, contributors to the Canadian Medical Association Journal, state that
"whether taken voluntarily or involuntarily, such drugs are often metabolized and excreted before the victim even perceives that a sexual assault may

Human Trafficking Women
Women and young girls have been snatched out of their everyday lives and forced to perform acts in which they have no control over or desire to be
subjected to. Human trafficking is a form of modern day slavery in which women and sometimes men have been kidnapped and all of their rights
were taken away from them. Though causes for the people involved are generally the same as the mechanism or the method as to how the victims are
inducted into the world of human trafficking, the aftermath or effects that the system has on the victims is different for all.
Human trafficking is the exploitation of mostly young girls and women who are forced to complete sexual acts for the entertainment of an abductor
and their clients. Women who live in cities with a high poverty rate and those who are not necessarily "modest" when it comes to their appearance are
more so targeted by the person performing the violation of human rights (Francesca Petriliggieri). Generally, the women involved are not willingly

Date Rape
When people hear the word "rape" they might imagine a stranger leaping out from the shadows of a dark alley and attacking someone. Although this is
partly true, most rapes are committed by people who know their victims. When intercourse is unwanted and forced upon by someone you know, it is
known as " date rape." It occurs daily and is prevalent on virtually all college campuses across the nation and in cities all over the world.
Date rape generally occurs when a man is alone with a woman. Although it has been reported that men have been raped by women, it is much more
common for a woman to be raped by a man. There are several reasons why date rape might occur. Sometimes a man thinks that a woman "owes" him ...

The man may feel angry or rejected if this happens, and may want sexual gratification anyway. The result can be rape.
If only the woman is drunk, the man may see this as an opportunity to take advantage of her because she will most likely be less defensive towards him.
Some men plan the act of rape, and may use alcohol or drugs in order to lesson a woman's judgment. In some cases, someone may slip a drug into a
women's drink, causing her to forget what had happened the night before when she wakes the next morning. If a woman is intoxicated and has
seemingly consented to having sex, she may feel the next morning that she only acted that way because of the her condition at the time. In a court of
law, the man would be found guilty of rape.
Even if substance use is not involved, another factor is mixed signals between the man and the woman. If a woman acts in a friendly or outgoing
manner towards a man, he may interpret this as a proposal to have sex. Even if a woman says "no," the man may think that she is playing hard to
get, that the "no" really means "yes." Some men are sexually aroused when a woman struggles, and may continue in an aggressive no matter what she
says to him. This can occur to people who have just met, those who are dating, or even to people who have known each other for years.

Essay about Drinking Alcohol Causes Sexual Assault
Drinking Alcohol Causes Sexual Assault
There is a definite correlation between alcohol and sexual assault. A sexual assault can be defined as a sexual act occurring without verbal consent, or
when force is used in a sexual encounter against the other person's will. Of all the men who admit to committing sexual assault, 55% report being under
the influence of alcohol at the time, with 26% of the men being drunk (Stanford University, 1999). Of all the women who report being sexually
assaulted, 53% of them report being under the influence of alcohol, with 21% of these women being drunk (Stanford University, 1999). These facts

For example, after drinking alcohol, men expect to feel more powerful and aggressive (Stanford University, 1999). This increases their expectancy of
certain outcomes, especially in sexual situations. Thus, drinking alcohol may cause men to misinterpret a woman's behavior as a sign of her desire
to have sex with him. On the other hand, when a woman consumes alcohol, it can cause her to ignore or miss a cue that an assault is possible or
likely to happen (Antonia, 1991). Alcohol can also keep a woman from realizing that her friendly behavior is being misperceived as seduction.
Studies have shown that intoxicated and sober men are inclined to misperceive friendliness as a sign of sexual interest, so this is a great danger to
women (Stanford University, 1999). Alcohol consumption can also decrease the likelihood that a woman can successfully resist an assault, verbally or
physically. Additionally, women become intoxicated faster than men. This occurs for two reasons: women generally weigh less and have less water in
their bodies than men, so the alcohol is less diluted and has a greater impact on their bodies. (Stanford University, 1999). Women do not metabolize
alcohol as efficiently as men, which makes them more vulnerable to the consequences of drinking.
A second reason why sexual assaults involve alcohol is that there are several stereotypes about a " drinking woman." There are, however, very few
stereotypes about a " drinking man."

Date Rape Epidemic in America

  • 1. Rape And Sexual Assault And Rape Rape and sexual assault have been a growing epidemic not only in The United States, but all around the world as well. There are many stories based on these issues that also deal with something called date rape drugs. Rape, sexual assault, and date rape drugs are all very closely related and can all occur in the same situation. Date rape drugs can be used to lead to a sexual assault against someone and then possibly rape. These topics are all very serious because "There is an average of 207,754 victims (age 12 or older) of rape and sexual assault each year." ("Sexual Assault Prevention") Sexual assault and rape are similar but not entirely the same. Sexual assault is any sexual activity, ranging from visual to verbal, that someone engages in that they did not give consent to. (Lukima) Rape is considered to be sexual assault and is the actual act of sexual penetration that the individual being raped did not agree to. (Berger) Rape is very prominent and stories are always present in the media discussing it including things like college parties that lead to rape because alcohol and drugs were involved. Rape and sexual assault are so common that "Current trends project that 1 in 3 American women will be sexually assaulted at some point during their life." (Berger) More specifically, date rape is when a drug is used to assist the rape or assault and it can be with a person the victim does or does not know. (Weiss) A topic as serious as this has to have preventative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Prescription Drug Abuse And Its Effects On The Society In the past year studies by the Centers for Disease Control have shown that one in twenty people in the United States alone us painkillers just for pleasure. Abuse of prescription drugs is a huge issue in our country, although many people use them solely for medical reasons, most people do not. According to Nora D. Wolkow, M.D., "An estimated 52 million people (20 percent) of those aged 12 and older) have used prescription drugs for non–medical reasons at least once in their lifetime." (National Institute on Drug Abuse). This is now extremely common and is only becoming a bigger problem by the day. Prescription drug abuse causes a crippling affect on the abusers body by creating serious brain damage, increasing the rate of crime, endangering the lives of the abusers and the people around them, as well as ruining families completely, and taking a huge toll on the lives of teenagers and the elderly. "Prescription drug abuse is defined as the taking of medication in a manner other than that prescribed or for a different condition than that which the medication is described." (Rice 342–343). A huge body of our society is affected by becoming addicted to prescription drugs. This often happens when one is in pain over his/her bodily conditions, and is prescribed either an opioid, depressants, or stimulants. A simple problem such as that turns into an even bigger one when the abuser becomes addicted. Addiction occurs when dopamine, a neurotransmitter, links on to receptors and ... • 3. Andrew Luste and the Date Rape Drug In 2002, 2003, and 2004, Andrew Luster was convicted of dosing three women with a date rape drug known as GHB (Gamma Hydroxybutyric Acid). The first accuser was a twenty–one year old college student, the second a seventeen year old, and the third accuser has been in a relationship with Luster until she found out that he raped her the first night they met. He was found guilty and is charged with rape, oral copulation, sodomy, a fight to avoid prosecution, and was sentenced to fifty years in jail with one million dollar bail (Wikipedia). Conflict theory would best describe the motive that Andrew Luster portrayed within his crime. This type of theory reflects that humans try to increase their wealth and fortune at the expense of others; to get what they want even in opposition. This is the fundamental view that crime is the economic and social forces within society. The elite and wealthy usually aim for the poor in hopes of de–humanizing them and feeling worthless. This would apply to the social norms, in which, the social norm is for men to be dominant and women to be submissive (Arndt 2014). Andrew Luster had all the wealth in the world that he could of asked for–being an heir of his great–grandfather who succeeded in the cosmetic industry. What he was after was the power. Clinical psychologist, Dr. Judy Kuriansky, mentioned that to have sex with an unconscious person is having no feelings or needs for the other, and also comments, "it is infantile, hostile, and shows ... • 4. An Issue Plaguing Americ Date Rape An Issue Plaguing America Date rape is a form of acquaintance rape. The definition of date rape and acquaintance rape two phrases are often used interchangeably, but date rape specifically refers to a rape in which there has been some sort of romantic or potentially sexual relationship between the two parties involved. It's a massive issue and is getting worse day by day, despite the continuous effort of law enforcement as well as many aware–raising organizations. Date rape is a grossly widespread issue among the United States and needs to be looked at closely and taken more seriously in order to get a handle on the constantly rising statistics, the mental and physical dangers of the victims, and the large amount of illegal pharmacies that are online supplying the very people who commit these heinous crimes. Date rape can sometimes be a tedious topic to converse upon between male and female but nevertheless, it needs to be. Rape isn't something that is wanted or desired by anyone. It is a violent act committed by a predator, often from lustful desires, as an attempt to display power and control over the victim ("What Is Rape ..."). Numerous people only think that rape is a physical state, which isn't true at all. Rape can be verbal, visual, or just about anything whatsoever that forces the person into any kind of sexual contact that they don't provide consent to be a part of ("What Is Rape ..."). • 6. Date Rape Research Papers Rape and Sexual Assault Sexual assault and rape has always been a social and public issue in the United States. A majority of the time, women become the victims, while men become the perpetrators. National surveys in the United States show that one in six women has experienced an attempted or completed rape. Consent appears to be a critical factor in determining whether assault or rape has taken place. Women have a higher chance of being raped by who they are acquainted with rather than strangers. In many states, the legal definition of first and second degree sexual assault involves non–consensual sexual contact or intercourse. Sexual assault encompasses completed or attempted penetration, abusive sexual contact, and noncontact sexual abuse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many male toddlers aren't taught that raping a person is not only immoral but also that they have to respect a woman's choice. Researchers and sociologists believe that when men and women are more aware and educated of rape, there would be less instances of sexual assault in colleges and universities. There are many instances of rape going unreported simply due to young women who are involved do not perceive the incident as rape until they realize it later. Students perception revealed that many young people do not have accurate images of what sexual assault is. As of recently, Time Magazine posts that California's new law requires colleges to give consent before sex. This bill was introduced by Senator Kevin de Leon during the early summer of 2015. This bill also gives additional protection to students and sexual assault victims, including on–campus advocates for victims, and also educational programs for incoming college freshman. There are many ways to bring awareness of sexual assault and rape culture. One way is to teach children the language of consent. Other ways to raise awareness is to allow teachers to exercise the education of consent. • 7. Sexual Assault On Campus Essay Jennifer Butler Mr. Hansen Composition 1 November 27, 2016 Sexual Assault on College Campus In America, sexual assault is increasing on campuses. Colleges and Universities are insanely lenient with the policies of sexual assault and misconduct. Undergraduates get the worse since they are new and don't expect it to happen to them. Date rape drugs are being used more often than any other type of assault. Over half of victims don't report the assault, because they don't believe it's critical enough. Others never get justice for the crimes the rapist commits. "A relatively small percentage of students believe it is very or extremely likely they will experience sexual assault or misconduct. "Nonconsensual sexual contact involving drugs and alcohol constitute a significant percentage of the incidents" (AAU). Gamma Hydroxybutyrate(GHB) or Rohypnol are the best–known date rape drugs. Most women don't report the assault or rape because they don't think that their claim is reliable since they were drinking and have no remembrance of what occurred to them. Club drugs are also common date rape drugs for college students that party a lot. Ecstasy and Methamphetamines are the most frequent and familiarized drugs associated with date rape in clubs and/or around campus parties. "A 2006 study funded by the National Institute of Justice found that of the estimated 100,000 sexual assaults reported in the United States each year, about 62 percent were "drug–facilitated" and 5 percent of victims were given date–rape drugs" (INVW). When asking women about the assaults and getting drugged most wouldn't be able to understand what happened or they don't realize it in time to get tested. "GHB is also a sexual stimulant, so perpetrators will often later say that the woman accusing them of assault is the one who initiated the sexual encounter. Later, the woman may not be able to piece together what happened to her in time to get herself tested" (INVW). This is not the only traumatizing thing these people dealt with while being in ... • 8. College Campus Shootings College life is hard enough as is, but now college campuses are becoming more and more dangerous and something needs to be done. Students should be able to enjoy every minute of college life without fear of something awful happening to them. College students face dangers of shootings, mugging, burglary, and sexual assault, among other things. College campuses are more dangerous than ever and if colleges don't take action soon, kids will stop going to college out of pure fear. Taking preventative measures to assure that these things do not happen is the most important part of making college campuses safe for students. In order to prevent such dangers, campuses must keep guns off campus except with select faculty and security guards, keep sidewalks well–lit with "blue light" security systems spread throughout campus, and take action to prevent sexual assault. Mass shootings are terrible tragedies that can and should be prevented in any way possible. Perhaps the best solution would be to implement gun control laws for the entire country, but until that happens there are actions that we can take to be sure students are safe from gun violence on campus. Currently there are 10 states that allow anyone to carry a gun on campus, including Arkansas, Georgia, Oregon, and Texas; and 23 states that leave the decision to ban or allow guns up to each college or university, including Arizona, Indiana, Maine, Ohio, and West Virginia. Any type of sex forced on a date or person who has not consented is rape. In our society people think that since you're in a relationship you could never refuse sexual encounters. • 10. Rape And Social Development Programs Introduction Date Rape is the well–known act of persuaded, or potentially forced, unconsented sex with another person. There are numerous explanations for why date rapes, or rapes in general, occur. As laid out in some academic papers, prescribed cultural masculine ideologies may be the explanation for the motive of the act. Merton and Durkeim's Strain Theory gives some bases in the explanation of this, as pertaining the strain involved in achieving these ideologies (goals). Some initiatives by social programs prevent rape crimes by educating men about the false masculinity portrayed to them and to fight the culture surrounding it. Strain theory, as well as social learning theory, give some explanation to why date rapes are committed and social development programs may be a preventative. Specifically, what is date rape in legal terms and who does it involve? Criminal/Deviant Behaviour Rape is traditionally defined as 'the act of sexual intercourse committed by a man with a woman not his wife and without her consent' (Anderson, 1997). In Canada, "rape was taken out of the Criminal Code and replaced with "sexual assault". Sexual assault in Canada does not have a definitive definition rather just assault that is sexual in nature. It is also split into three different levels of charges: Common, weapon/bodily harm, and aggravated (Depending on the severity of bodily harm). The sexual portion is just anything that relates to someone's sexual orientation. Date Rape as opposed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This information can be used to provide more statistics such as which sex is more susceptible to being victimized by date rape in a specific area. (Doerner and Lab, pg 36) The third strength is it provides more information of the victim and offender relationship. Maybe it would even be good if he got so blasted he blacked out again. Yeah, maybe if he re–entered that zombie–like state of unconsciousness he could figure out just what the hell he'd done the night Rashida was murdered. Blacking out would take a while and plenty of booze, but a twelve pack and a fifth of whiskey would surely do the job. In one 2002 survey of 53 women who used Rohypnol recreationally, 10% said they were physically or sexually assaulted while under its influence. • 15. Abuse In Teenagers Alcohol abuse in teens has become a huge problem across the United States. "Moreover, alcohol is the most commonly used drug among adolescences"(Komro & Toomey, 2002, p.5). Teens use this drug way more than tobacco or any other drug. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, "People ages 12 through 20 drink 11 percent of allalcohol consumed in the United States. Although youth drink less often than adults do, when they do drink, they drink more. That is because young people consume more than 90 percent of their alcohol by binge drinking" (Anonymous, 2017, p.1). The reason that youth under 21 consume alcohol is because of peer pressure, increased independence, desire to do it, stress, other reasons are family problems like: parent's divorced, family member sick or passed away. The first obvious reason for a teen to drink alcohol is peer pressure. What exactly is pressure? Peer pressure is when one's age group is inspired to do something whether they like it or not. Peer pressure has a couple of different types. For example: direct negative peer pressure is when a friend is directly asking someone to do something. This kind of peer pressure can be very affective in teens because teens are afraid of ridicule and losing their friends if they don't do what the other person asked of them. "This behavior then shapes the child's environment, as he or she chooses friends and situations that support further drinking" (Anonymous, 2006, p.22). Teens think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Rape Culture And Rape Culture Substance abuse also played a part in fraternity rape culture. Often, alcohol was supplied deliberately to women to make them less inhibited or blackout drunk, allowing the men to perform sexual acts with less resistance (Jozkowski). The alcohol interfered with the brain's functioning, resulted in poor judgement, and caused a woman to be overly flirtatious ("Alcohol's Effect on the Body"). If a woman acted this way, a fraternity member interpreted this as consent for sex. The alcohol could be used to confuse or incapacitate women making it impossible for her to consent to sexual acts. The fraternity brothers neglected to recognize that legal and ethical sexual behavior requires cognizant consent from all parties involved. Another method to incapacitate women, involved perpetrators secretly slipping date rape drugs into drinks, ("Date Rape Drugs"). Rohypnol, commonly known as roofies, caused judgement loss, unconsciousness, hallucinations, and drowsiness ("Date Rape Drugs"). Although roofies were the most commonly used drugs, they were gradually being replaced by drugs less likely to discolor or cloud beverages ("Date Rape Drugs"). Wayne Hughes Jr. said in an editorial that "prison is for people that we are afraid of, but we have been filling them with many folks we are just mad at." They also state if the proposition is passed it will bring some light on the face that over $60,000 is spent on one inmate alone per year, while less than $10,000 is spent on each student in schools (Gingrich and Hughes 2014). The American Civil Liberties Union, the Sentencing Project, and the Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice are also in favor of the proposition. Some of these groups agree with Gingrich and Hughes statements, the money ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Date Rape Drugs "Date Rape Drugs" Alcohol has been the "date rape drug" of choice for years. Now there are some "new" drugs on the market, which are being used for date rape. These drugs are Rohypnol, and GHB, or gamma hydroxybutyrate. They're used to "spike" unsuspecting victim's drinks. This can be easily done because these drugs have no odor, color or taste when put into a drink. These drugs are being increasingly used by youth В– in many cases as a date rape drug because of its ability to affect willpower. A 2mg dose of these drugs in one beer can put a person flat on their back, awakening with no memories of what happened them. Alcohol is a depressant drug; it slows the activity of the brain and the spinal cord. Beer, ale, wine, and hard liquor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, if you are to be drinking, you are strongly advised to drink only from tamper–proof bottles or better yet, from cans, and to insist that you open them yourself. Never ask someone to watch your drink for you, they could be easily distracted, or might not be as trustworthy as you would hope. Note that drinking mixed drinks from a wide–mouthed glass is asking for trouble; Rohypnol dissolves very easily in beverages, and the amnesiac state can begin within 10 minutes. Never under any circumstances leave a friend who is displaying the effects of this drug! Be sure to see them home safely and remain there with them. • 35. What Is Date Rape? Essay What is date rape? Date rape is forcible sexual intercourse by a male or female friend of a woman or man, during a voluntary social engagement in which the woman or man did not intend to submit to the sexual advances and fought the acts by verbal refusals or denials to stop, and/or physical resistance. What would you do if someone blamed you for something you did not want to do? This type of act usually happens in college campuses and is critically difficult to prove in a court case. Victim blaming is wrong because the victim is not responsible for the assault that was not consented, the blame is shifted from the rapist to the victim, and prevents the victim from continuing with their daily routines. One of the most common sexual assault strategies are drug abuse. The contribution of alcohol and other drugs to sexual assault has been increasingly recognized during the last fifteen to twenty years. Many drugs, alone or in combination, have the potential to be used to facilitate sexual assault, including alcohol, benzodiazepines, antihistamines, antidepressants, marijuana, cocaine and gamma–hydroxybutyrate [GHB]. This list is extensive and is growing as new drugs become available and new interactions are identified. Bernadette Butler and Jan Welch, contributors to the Canadian Medical Association Journal, state that "whether taken voluntarily or involuntarily, such drugs are often metabolized and excreted before the victim even perceives that a sexual assault may have ... A person must know what date rape is, which drugs are involved in date rape, and what drug facilitated sexual assault is in order to discuss date rape. Date rape is defined as "the crime of forcing someone you know to have sex with you, especially while on a date". A victim of daterape is usually on a date with the rapist. Date rape is also known as acquaintance rape; acquaintance rape is "rape committed by someone known to the victim". A victim who knows their date, is less likely to suspect they will be raped (Merriam–Webster, n.d.). The term date rape implies that there is a relationship, usually romantic, between the victim and the rapist. This is one reason date rape is sometimes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Human Trafficking Women Women and young girls have been snatched out of their everyday lives and forced to perform acts in which they have no control over or desire to be subjected to. Human trafficking is a form of modern day slavery in which women and sometimes men have been kidnapped and all of their rights were taken away from them. Though causes for the people involved are generally the same as the mechanism or the method as to how the victims are inducted into the world of human trafficking, the aftermath or effects that the system has on the victims is different for all. Human trafficking is the exploitation of mostly young girls and women who are forced to complete sexual acts for the entertainment of an abductor and their clients. Women who live in cities with a high poverty rate and those who are not necessarily "modest" when it comes to their appearance are more so targeted by the person performing the violation of human rights (Francesca Petriliggieri). Generally, the women involved are not willingly sacrificing their freedom to the disgusting men who are trying to lure them. A lot of the time, the abductee was made... • 38. Stereotypes Of Date Rape Date Rape In the twenty–first century, rape culture is gaining more and more recognition. The public is finally educating themselves on rape, what it is, and what qualifies as rape. One subtype of rape in particular is date rape. What exactly is date rape? According to an article called Date Rape, it is "the act of forcing sex on a date," they continue to state "the key word in the definition is force, since it is the legal line that separates rape from romance" (Date Rape 1). Although the definition may seem simple, for some people, it is difficult to grasp. There are a few small differences between rape and date rape. • 39. Essay Date Rape Date Rape When people hear the word "rape" they might imagine a stranger leaping out from the shadows of a dark alley and attacking someone. Although this is partly true, most rapes are committed by people who know their victims. When intercourse is unwanted and forced upon by someone you know, it is known as " date rape." It occurs daily and is prevalent on virtually all college campuses across the nation and in cities all over the world. Date rape generally occurs when a man is alone with a woman. Although it has been reported that men have been raped by women, it is much more common for a woman to be raped by a man. There are several reasons why date rape might occur. Sometimes a man thinks that a woman "owes" him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some cases, someone may slip a drug into a women's drink, causing her to forget what had happened the night before when she wakes the next morning. If a woman is intoxicated and has seemingly consented to having sex, she may feel the next morning that she only acted that way because of the her condition at the time. In a court of law, the man would be found guilty of rape. Even if substance use is not involved, another factor is mixed signals between the man and the woman. If a woman acts in a friendly or outgoing manner towards a man, he may interpret this as a proposal to have sex. Even if a woman says "no," the man may think that she is playing hard to get, that the "no" really means "yes." Some men are sexually aroused when a woman struggles, and may continue in an aggressive no matter what she says to him. This can occur to people who have just met, those who are dating, or even to people who have known each other for years. There is a thin line between what is known as "mutual consent" and "date rape." They can be confusingly similar because a women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are several cases that have resulted in a rapist being charged, put on bail, and then going out and raping someone again. "'He choked her until she lost consciousness ... then he raped her.' • 41. Essay about Drinking Alcohol Causes Sexual Assault Drinking Alcohol Causes Sexual Assault There is a definite correlation between alcohol and sexual assault. A sexual assault can be defined as a sexual act occurring without verbal consent, or when force is used in a sexual encounter against the other person's will. Of all the men who admit to committing sexual assault, 55% report being under the influence of alcohol at the time, with 26% of the men being drunk (Stanford University, 1999). Of all the women who report being sexually assaulted, 53% of them report being under the influence of alcohol, with 21% of these women being drunk (Stanford University, 1999). These facts suggest that alcohol is a major factor in sexual assaults. Crimes such as these could be greatly reduced if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, after drinking alcohol, men expect to feel more powerful and aggressive (Stanford University, 1999). This increases their expectancy of certain outcomes, especially in sexual situations. Thus, drinking alcohol may cause men to misinterpret a woman's behavior as a sign of her desire to have sex with him. On the other hand, when a woman consumes alcohol, it can cause her to ignore or miss a cue that an assault is possible or likely to happen (Antonia, 1991). Alcohol can also keep a woman from realizing that her friendly behavior is being misperceived as seduction. Studies have shown that intoxicated and sober men are inclined to misperceive friendliness as a sign of sexual interest, so this is a great danger to women (Stanford University, 1999). Alcohol consumption can also decrease the likelihood that a woman can successfully resist an assault, verbally or physically. Additionally, women become intoxicated faster than men. This occurs for two reasons: women generally weigh less and have less water in their bodies than men, so the alcohol is less diluted and has a greater impact on their bodies. (Stanford University, 1999). Women do not metabolize alcohol as efficiently as men, which makes them more vulnerable to the consequences of drinking. A second reason why sexual assaults involve alcohol is that there are several stereotypes about a " drinking woman." There are, however, very few stereotypes about a " drinking man." ...
