Why Was Operation Torch Important
The first historical item I have found in this article was Maj. Gen. George Patton. He was born in San Gabriel, California on November 11, 1885.
Considered one of the most successful combat generals in U.S history, he was the first officer assigned to the Tank Corps in WWI. During WWII,
he helped lead the Allies to victory in the invasion of Sicily, and was instrumental to the liberation of Germany from the Nazis. He was skilled at
tank warfare. He died on December 21, 1945 in Heidelberg, Germany. The second historical item I have found was the Play Ball. The Play ball was
only two words long message. It could have referred to almost anything. Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, the future president and Supreme Commander of the
Allied Expeditionary Force,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The operation Torch was the name given to the Allied invasion of French North Africa in November 1942. Operation Torch (initially called Operation
Gymnast) was the British–United States invasion of French North Africa during the North African Campaign of the Second World War which started
on 8 November 1942. The successful Allied operation has been described as a "critical turning point in the war" and laid the foundations for America's
post–war Middle East policy. Despite its important role in the war, Torch has been largely overlooked. Operation Torch was the first time the British
and Americans had jointly worked on an invasion plan together. The sixth historical item I have found was Hans Auer. Hans Auer was German Consul
General in Casablanca. Two nights before the US struck, he had called a meeting of twelve Nazi armistice commissioners at the Hotel Plaza to warn
them that an Allied invasion was imminent. The seventh historical item I have found was De Gaullists. De Gaullists followed the Germans, and set up
machine guns covering hotel's exits. The blaze of gunfire silenced the Nazis when the meeting broke up. Although De Gaullist guns disrupted Nazis
preparations, the Nazis were still able to put up the immense resistance to the U.S.

Analysis Of Orson Welles's 'The War Of The Worlds'
On October 30, 1938 Orson Welles would scared the nation with his radio broadcast titled "The War of the Worlds." The American people became
hysterical that an actual alien invasion was happening right before their ears. They could hear what was going on while it was broadcasting live on
the radio. It was with this notion that Welles fooled his listeners. He could do this by interrupting the broadcast multiple times and have reporters
interview eye witnesses. This came at a time when the American people relied on the radio for news and entertainment. Welles preyed on the notion
that the American people relied on the radio for an understanding of the world in familiar terms. He would prove how easy American people believed
in what they were told by the media and how they could be provoked into mass delusion. One of the reasons the American people were fooled into
thinking Welles' program was real is that the program was consistently interrupted with "real news updates." These updates added in a factor of realism
that what the audience was listening to was happening at the same time. These interruptions would be signaled by the announcer coming on to give
updates to previous ones. An example of this from the program itself goes: "Ladies and gentlemen, following on the news given in our bulletin a
moment ago, the Government Meteorological Bureau has requested the large observatories of the country to keep an astronomical watch on any
further disturbances occurring on the

World War Hulk's Summary : The Hulk Vs. Sentry
Hulk vs Sentry A giant green monster versus a raging celestial level being. The debate of who is stronger has been around ever since their debut fight
in 2007. Some think that the giant green monster Hulk is stronger than the raging celestial being, Sentry. Both characters are extremely strong in their
own respect. However, there is only one choice as to who is stronger. When the story writer Rick Jones wrote theWorld War Hulkstoryline, he wrote it
to show just how strong Hulk and Sentry really are. Nowhere in comics has Hulk or Sentry been written to show their full power. This was the first
look as to who are the absolute strongest characters on Earth in Marvel comics. When people reference the strength of the two when debating or
arguing, they are talking about this fight in Rick Jones's storyline World War Hulk. In the end though, The Incredible Hulk is stronger and better than
Sentry because of his limitless stamina, strength, and rage. Hulk was an accident. Hulk is an alter ego of Bruce Banner. Bruce Banner is the son of a
raging alcoholic who would beat him and his mother. His father Brian was relentless and would abuse Bruce and his mother if they ever said anything
about his behavior to the public. When Bruce was getting beaten, his mother intervened to try and stop the abuse. As a result, Brian killed her. Bruce
grew up with extremely high intelligence, but he retained mental health issues from the time he spent as a child. Bruce grew up with only one friend,

Captain Marvel's Influence On American Culture
Starting from Captain America : "And given that Captain America was created in the early 40s (his premiere issue went on sale December 20, 1940),
his ultra–patriotic nature had a purpose. Simon and Kirby were not what you would call "fans" of Nazi Germany's blitzkriegs throughout Europe.
But the USA still wouldn't join the war effort in 1940, and so Simon and Kirby needed a hero who could embody the American intervention they
believed was right." (74 Years of Captain America) At the beginning, Marvel supported American Freedom, as well as the freedom of other countries
and that is the basis of how and why they were connected to so many wars. Captain America's "patriotism was a colossal hit with American comic

"Comic books during this time were not mere trifles, but rather existed as part of the larger cultural fabric. Comics reflected the cultural visions of
comic book creators, men who often used comics to advance specific visions. Therefore, the study of comic books is not merely a passive exercise,
but rather entails a serious re–examination of American culture during this period." (The Golden Age.) With Captain America being the hero of the
Second World War, the embodiment of pure American Patriotism, there had to be someone else to take up the banner during the Cold War. That hero
was the high tech Iron Man. (O'Neil, T.) Tony Stark, billionaire and absolute genius is captured by Soviets during the Cold War, he is forced to build a

War Of The Worlds Conflict
The War of the Worlds is a fictional novel written by H.G Wells in the year 1898. It was one of the first stories that shows a scenario of conflict
between the human race and extraterrestrials. It was published by Dover Publications, Inc with a copyright date set in 1997. The book has 145 pages.
The story takes place in London, England in the final years of the 19th century. The conflict is external(man vs man) and towards the end of the story,
becomes internal(man vs self). All is normal in London when a missile is seen flying through space with its origins from Mars. Before we know it,
Martians are wreaking havoc throughout London. Later the main character starts to think of the future for the human race, and struggles with his sanity.

One of the most important and critical decisions made was the martian's decision to get rid of bacteria on their planet thousands of years before.
Doing this, their bodies had no need for a resistance against bacteria. This made the martians very susceptible and vulnerable to disease and viruses
contracted from Earth. Humans have gained a strong resistance over millions of years, because bacteria and disease has been around since the
beginning of time. " these germs of disease have taken poll of humanity since the beginning of things–taken tool of our pre–human ancestors since life
began here. But by virtue of this natural selection of our kind we have developed resisting power; to no germs do we succumb without a struggle, and
to many–does that cause putrefaction in that matter, for instance–our living frames are altogether immune. But there are no bacteria on Mars..."(Wells
137). If the martians had been prepared for this situation, Earth surely would have been doomed, and under control of the martian pioneers.
Wells truly was one of the most creative writers of his time. In the late 1800s there were no other writings of extraterrestrials like this one. This
book really makes the reader begin to wonder about the mysteries of life in space, and if humans really are the top of the food chain. Especially
during the time it was written in. This book is every science fiction lover's dream. It shows the possibility of there being a

The Impact Of Technology On The Environment
Technology is defined as anything that makes life easier. There are times where technology can make life easier just as a phone can make your life
easier by allowing you something to use to stay in touch with those people that are around you. There are also times where technology can make life
harder because it is used against nature and can ruin places. Some of those times are: the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, China's environmental
degradation, World War II, and the secondIndustrial Revolution. These are all times in history where the environment took a turn for the worst because
of the newest technology that was created and used.
Oil Spill Oil spills can impact the environment greatly. Since the oil boats are on the ocean if the break and start to leak it goes into the ocean
where it can harm the ocean and those that make their home in it. "That spill caused an immediate and significant impact to the ecosystem, with
sightings of birds and turtles washed up on beaches covered with oil, as well as an increase in the deaths of other marine life" (Sinclair, 2017). The
oil spill in 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico was the biggest since Deepwater Horizon. It caused harm to the ecosystem around it because technology came
in so it could pump oil out of the ground under the ocean. There is no way to know the impact that oil spill and really every oil spill has had on the
marine ecosystem.
China's Environmental Degradation The population on China is constantly increasing and it is increasing quickly. Because of the population increase
there are more and more carbon emission, which is causing a lot of pollution in China. "While China's economic boom has greatly accelerated the
devastation of its land and resources, the roots of its environmental problem stretch back centuries" (Albert and Xu, 2016). China's environment is
becoming more and more polluted and it is also causing harm to the plants, animals and ecosystem there. China's population began booming and has
increased by about 10% every year for the last decade (Albert and Xu, 2016). While the population increases so does the industrialization of the country
which in turn increases the carbon emissions and pollution. The water is also becoming increasingly

With Hate and Success: How the Jews Created the Comic Book Industry The year is 1933. Adolf Hitler is elected as Chancellor of Germany, the
U.S. struggles through the Great Depression, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt is elected as the U.S. President, and almost assassinated. But that's not
what this is about, that's the boring stuff. This is about the revolutionary idea that changed American pop culture forever. 1933 was the birth of the
American comic book. The birth that ended up becoming a success. In fact, it became so popular that it's still around today! I mean come on, these
days it's tough to keep something revived, especially if it's from the 1930s. A bit later, the first graphic novels were introduced. The graphic novel

already praised Jews, began to contribute to the industry, especially the graphic novel sector. And graphic novels weren't all about superheroes
anymore. Graphic novels such as Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis and Daniel Clowes' Ghost World are an example of this. Marjane Satrapi is an
Iranian woman who wrote about war, and Daniel Clowes, a Jew, wrote about daily teenage life. But if one were to look back at the roots, no matter
who controls the industry now, it's all thanks to Jews for this entertaining industry. Despite comic books and graphic novels being made by all types of

The Between Greek Mythology And The Berserkers From Norse...
Those that have read certain comic books, or seen some movies, know that Hulk is a huge creature with immense strength and an incredible healing
factor. When inspecting other historic and mythological figures, it could be that the Hulk is very similar to Hercules from Greek mythology, and the
Berserkers from Norse history and mythology. To begin with, theHulk is only half of the equation to the character. Originally, Hulk was a human
named Bruce Banner. Banner was an incredible scientist that at one time oversaw gamma bomb development. "On the day of the bomb's scheduled
detonation, Banner saw someone in the testing area. Hoping to rescue this person, Banner went into the testing area... This resulted in Banner being
caught in the Gamma Bomb explosion and thus exposed to an incredibly massive amount of gamma radiation."(Comic Vine). In most humans, an
incident like the one Banner went through would have killed them; at the very least they would be riddled with cancer. No such things plagued
banner, instead of killing him, it gave him a form of power. When Banner becomes too angry, he transforms into the giant green creature that is
referred to as the Hulk. Hulk gains his powers from his anger, the more fury that Hulk has, the more powerful he becomes. Additionally,
Mythologically speaking the Berserkers, are similar to hulk. The Berserkers were reported to be a sort of gang that worshiped Odin in the Norse
religion. Throughout history, Berserkers have been infamous

Part A: Summary
Text:
The War of the Worlds (1898), a science fiction novel by H. G. Wells, is the first
–person narrative of an unnamed protagonist's (and his brother's)
adventures in Surrey and London as Earth is invaded by aliens. Written in 1895, it is one of the earliest stories that details a conflict between mankind
and an extraterrestrial race. Despite its age, this book is still a widely–enjoyed classic, and has inspired nearly 50 movies, 6 Broadway productions, and
2 musicals (one of which I personally own) in its time! The War of the Worldspresents itself as a factual account of the Martian ... Show more content

The narrator escapes detection by hiding in the coal–cellar.
The Martians eventually depart, and the narrator is able to head toward Central London. He once again encounters the artilleryman, who briefly
persuades him to cooperate in a grandiose plan to rebuild civilization underground. But after a few hours the narrator perceives the lunacy of this
plan and the overall laziness of his companion and abandons the artilleryman to his delusions. Heading into a deserted London, he is at the point of
despair and offers his life to the aliens when he discovers that the invaders have died from microbial infections to which they had no immunity, since
"there are no bacteria in Mars." The narrator realises with joy that the threat has been vanquished. The narrator suffers a brief breakdown of which he
remembers nothing, he is nursed back to health by a kind family, and returns home to find his wife, whom he had given up for dead. The last chapter,
entitled "Epilogue," reflects on the significance of the invasion and the "abiding sense of doubt and insecurity" that it has left in the narrator's mind.

Aliens Take Over To Alter Life For All In both "Zero Hour" and The War of the Worlds the beginning of the end leaves everyone in peril of formidable
extraterrestrials. In similar fashion, the events lead them to take extraordinary measures when they are put in danger from the invasion. The authors of
"Zero Hour" and The War of the World's portray alien invasions with characters that struggle during different events because of the author's vision of
technology during the invasion. In both stories, the authors create characters that struggle with getting to safety during an alien invasion. In "War of

In "Zero Hour" on page 260 it states, "Footsteps. A little humming sound. The attic lock melted" (Bradbury). If the aliens hadn't had the technology to
melt down the doorknob, then Mink's parents would've had a chance to stay in their attic longer and most likely, perhaps find a way to escape if the
aliens hadn't opened the door. On the other hand, in The War of the WorldsH. G. Wells exclaimed, " One on the extreme left, the remotest that is,
flourished a huge case high in the air, and the ghostly, terrible Heat–Ray I had already seen on Friday night smote towards Chertsey, and struck the
town" (260). This source makes it clear that the aliens had this specific machine that can transform itself and make it into town to ruin anything in its
path. This was coming from up above, thus this couldn't really target the people, this lead to the narrator going under water which saved him from the
Heat–Ray. As well as, these events lead them in a bad place since they had made these decisions to further themselves from the aliens which only
put them at risk. In War of the Worlds H.G. Wells demonstrates, "I faced about again, and rushed towards the approaching Martian, rushed right
down the gravelly beach and headlong into the water" (270). The narrator risked his life during this process with the possibility of staying in the
water for too long and not being able to breathe. In "Zero Hour", it states, "They tumbled into the attic, she slammed the door, locked it, threw the key
into a far, cluttered corner" ( Bradbury 259). Mink's mom did this out of panic that the aliens will find their way through the door. She reacted quickly
by throwing the key in a corner that was already "cluttered" with other stuff which was a bad idea if they changed their mind and thought clearly about
escaping. Moreover, this

The War of the Worlds
When earth is invaded, what will happen? Great science fiction novels explore many scenarios like this. The likelihood of an Alien invasion is still a
highly talked about topic in science fiction today. But none approach the subject of alien invasions like The War of the Worlds. When looking for a
science fiction novel a reader has a wide array of books to choose from. One would want to choose a classic science fiction novel that is engaging and
believable. H.G. Wells' novel The War of the Worldsis mesmerizing and conceivable literary wise; Wells does this by portraying a believable and
captivating plot, clever character development and interesting and creative science to support it.
The War of the Worlds is a very believable story with the way it portrays the late nineteenth century and the way it describes how humans interacted
with each other and reacted to their situations. The narrator and his brother give really detailed descriptions that keep you entertained and interested
throughout the novel. The narrator describes his surroundings extremely vividly which makes it easy to picture in one's mind while reading; The
narrator describes the ruined remains of a neighborhood that he has been held up in, "Now I stood on a mound of smashed brickwork, clay, and

H.G. Wells' Novel The War Of The Worlds Successfully Creates A Thrilling Climate Of Terror Which Often Reflects Late Victorian Insecurities.
Discuss This Statement With Reference To The Purpose And Craft Of The Author– 1994 Words H.G. Wells' novel "The War Of The Worlds" depends
upon late Victorian insecurities to generate a thrilling climate of terror. Wells feeds off of the politics at that point in time, the ethics and beliefs of his
contemporaries and also the sense of false pride and arrogance that white Victorians had considering that they were top of the natural selection
hierarchy. He produces this climate of terror not only through the content of his writing, but by his use of language, structure and imagery.... Show more

Many Britons feared this idea of a technologically advanced war at the time, as Britain was in a naval race with Germany. Germany was
challenging Britain's navy because Britain's navy was the best in the world, and one of the main causes of Britain having such a vast empire. Britain
were aware of the envy that Germany had, and were therefore fearing the fact that Germany may be secretly planning a war, much like the Martians
silently planned an attack on Earth. Wells' also wrote about Victorians losing their faith in religion and the church. Some Victorians believed that god
was punishing them as a world war was looming and some even doubted his existence, as there was no proof for it. To illustrate this, Wells created the
curate as a highly religious character who had faith in god and also questioned why god had brought this war upon them. The following quote
illustrates this, when the curate said "The end! The great and terrible day of the Lord! When men shall call upon the mountains and the rocks to fall
upon them and hide them––hide them from the face of Him that sitteth upon the throne!". This may have been an attempt by Wells to voice his opinion,
saying that

which means they all have gone through the naturalization process. Why do they call it the naturalization process when America is full of all different
nationalities? Why naturalize immigrants? Let them come and make this country a more divers country. True Americans don 't just have a citizen ship

Orson Wells was huge at the time of the broadcast, there was speculation about him being H.G.Wells Grandson but was later found out to be a
rumor and nothing more. The sound effects used are very rusty for the modern day audience's standers, but at the time would have sounded very
realistic to the public, hence being very effective in the broadcast at the time. The effect would be very poor to a modern audience as modern
technologies make the sound effect unrealistic to modern audience's expectations. The two movie versions are presented quite differently but do
have some similarities. The opening titles in the early film start in black and white and then change into color causing an effect of going back in
time. The titles start of in army colors and then change into futuristic blues and purple causing the effect of something from the future. The later

How Does Hg Wells Create Tension In The War Of The Worlds
The War of the Worlds by HG Wells
In the novel The War Of The Worlds, there is a constant feeling of terror and dread, which is heavily influenced by the Victorian sense of anxiety and
worry about the world around them and their sudden rise to almost absolute power. Wells manipulates the culture of the time and so creates a novel
which preys upon their underlying feelings of anxiety and resentment of the people they conquered. Having said this, there is an argument which can
be created to challenge this view, which states that HG Wells' ideas cannot have the same effect on modern audiences as they did on Wells'
contemporaries.
When Wells was writingThe War Of The Worlds

This can be seen in the book during the attack of the "Thunder Child". It is an outdated, outmoded ship in the navy, but it manages to take down the
supposedly almighty Martian. It can be said that this would scare Victorians, who had huge faith in their new ships.
Wells' Britain was changing, and another aspect of life, perhaps thought previously to never change, was religion. In the past religion controlled
almost every aspect of life for British people, and it provided an easy means of escape from menial life. It explained the mysteries around them. But
Wells was writing in a time when these comforts were being replaced by science. It was explaining the mysteries and people were beginning to doubt
religion and God. Through the use of hyper–realism (imposing a fantasy story on a real world with real town names) he created a sense of unease
because the aliens' coming was not prophesised in the Bible, and yet he makes it seem very believable and real for aliens to come.
When arguing a point all these contextual issues must be taken into account. Wells was by no means writing in a vacuum. He, like all writers, was
influenced greatly by his time's topical events. The difference here perhaps is that these events drove Wells to write. To a Victorian audience the idea
that they were not the "top

War Of The World Movie Vs Book
Comparing Adaptations of Books and Film: The War of the Worlds
Adaptations of books into movies are very common. In comparing the book by H.G. Wells, The War of the World, written in 1897 and the film
with the same title directed by Steven Spielberg released in 2005 there are many similarities and many differences. Based on many of the facts of
this story I believe this to be an intermediate adaptation. An intermediate adaptation is defined as, "Some elements of the story are kept in the film,
other elements are dropped, and still more elements are added" (Desmond 44). This essay will look at some of the differences based on the era that

The tone of the movie is different based on the era that the film was produced. During the early 2000 there were issues that were not as prevalent or
discussed as in the 1890's. One of these such topics is that of divorce and the new blended family. This movie showed a divorced father who was not
present in the lives of his children. The children were dropped off by their mother who had planned a vacation with her new husband. The father is

Self-Concept In The Avengers
Another example of perception is evident during the scene where Bruce Banner transforms into the Hulk in the helicarrier. As the Hulk roars loudly,
Loki is shown as smiling. Since Loki's plan was to unleash the Hulk, he quickly recognized that Banner has transformed. According to A Primer on
Communication Studies (2012) we engage in selective attention when perceive information that meet our needs (p 61). It is clear that Loki was
waiting for this to happen; he has selected to tune out every other information and wait for one thing he is interested on. The second step of the
perception process says that we organize things by similarity, differences and proximity. This aspect is exposed during Fury's first conference with the
World Security Council. One of councilmen wrongfully assumes that Asgard has declared war with planet earth. Since Loki is from Asgard,
councilman thinks all asgardians are the enemy. We can see how assuming people are a certain way because of similarities is incorrect. However, this
is something that we do often. The final step is important to ensure that we create a correct assumption of things that we perceive. Self–concept

Will the Haughtiness of Humans Lead To Our Demise? Essay
As long as humans have existed, weapons too have existed. Ranging from the simple bow–and–arrow from the Native Americans, to the advanced
pistol of the Europeans, weapons have existed for as long as history can tell. Due to the reasons like this, we humans have placed ourselves on the top
of the social hierarchy while simple, "weak" organisms have been placed on the bottom. This idea is loosely present in the novel The War of the Worlds
by H. G. Wells, where the human race is invaded by aliens from the planet Mars, called Martians. Although we have placed ourselves on the top of the
social hierarchy, Wells argues that even though we have such advanced weapons, an entity exists that could prove formidable against humans. Even

By the end when hope seems gone, the artilleryman gives his opinion, saying that "It's all over... They've lost one – just one. And they've... crippled the
greatest power in the world." (Wells, 167–68) One of the most exaggerated aspects of the novel is the constant ignorance of the human society.
Throughout the novel, people choose to not believe in the Martians, even when the Martians are in the next town destroying everything. In fact, no one
had even thought of the idea of Martians, even when Mars was proven to have the capacity to harbor life. "No one would have believed in the last
years... that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's..." (Wells, 5) An example of this ignorance is shown in
the first chapters, when Henderson, the local journalist, tried to publish an article. "In London that night poor Henderson's telegram describing the
gradual unscrewing of the shot was judged to be a canard." (Wells, 38) Articles are eventually published, but only mention vague details, mostly focused
around "dead men from Mars". Important aspects, such as the fact that they could survive the oxygen impediments, are also absent from the articles. In
the end, after all the events and the narrator is contemplating, he mentions that even after everything that happened, humans choose to not think of a
second attack. "At any rate, whether we expect another invasion or not, our views of the human future

The Bombing Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki
Hiroshima and Nagasaki altered the course of world events by starting the Cold War, ushering advancements in technology, and by influencing cultures
worldwide. Occurring on August 6 and August 9 in 1945, the bombing of the cities set of a series of events that would forever change history. The
United States and the Soviet Union emerged from the war as superpowers with seemingly limitless power. Their ideologies, however, contrasted greatly,
and the once allied nations would turn against each other, setting the entire world into a period of uncertainty. The atomic bomb, alone, would
influence countless decisions, technologies, and policies in the following years and strike fear and awe into many around the world.
First, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki marked the beginning of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. During World
War II, the United States originally used the atomic bomb as a means to end the war with Japan. Many historians, however, believe President Truman
had an ulterior motive behind the use of the weapon. The Soviet Union planned to create a series of communist buffer states after the war, but this did
not bode well with American interests. Thus, America used the atomic bomb in Japan to deter the Soviet Union and have more influence in post–war
decisions (Davis 398). This action would start a period of rivalry and uncertainty for both countries. From this point on, political decisions made were
greatly influenced by the opposite

Essay about War of the Worlds by Herbert George (H.G.) Wells
War of the Worlds is a novel written by Herbert George (H.G.) Wells in the year 1898. It is a story of and alien invasion that takes place in London,
England and how humanity as a whole come together in the toughest possible situation, against the odds, and in the face of adversity, and still come
out victorious despite the countless numbers of dead. Destroyed buildings and landmarks. And at times loss of hope. In this report, I will be discussing
three of the most important terms of the book: conflict, setting, and motif. The conflict, setting, and motif of War of the Worlds is: Man vs. Martian,
early 20th century London, and Death (as the motif). The first term I am going to discuss is conflict. Man vs. Martian is the perfect... Show more content

Throughout the story, the make their way through many towns while running from the invading Martian attackers. They make their way across
England, but eventually end up in London at the end of the book where the narrator sees that the Martians have died of apparent diseases. The third
and final term I will be examining is motif. The motif I chose was death. Death is certainly the most obvious and common motifs I believe is
represented in this story. Death is literally everywhere in this book. Starting from chapter one when the civilian is incinerated by the Martian's blaster,
to the giant alien machines that crawl across planet Earth destroying any person or structure in its path. The main character visits many towns in his
attempted escape from the seemingly inevitable doom that is followed by the invasion. Death has stricken almost every town he comes across.
Whether it be a random body he sees, or a person from the group that travels with him, the narrator is almost always around death. The only time death
can be represented as a good thing is when the narrator reaches London and sees the Martians lying dead in their defeat from disease. The result or
outcome of the story is that the world tries to return to normal. Citizens begin to return to their homes, attempting to recapture any type of normality

The American Dream in the 1930's: Focused on Orson Welles' War of the Worlds Through realistic news coverage scenes, War of the Worlds tells
the story of Martians invading the United States of America. Orson Welles formated the show like that because he wanted to create a show that felt
real as you listened to it, and be distinct from any other radio show playing at the time. He got the idea from Ronald Knox's radio hoax Broadcasting
the Barricades, about a riot overtaking London, even though Knox's show ended in rioting. He was also influenced by another radio play he was in,

taken later by CBS, it was stated that, "In the first place, most people didn't hear it, but those who did hear it, looked at it is as a prank and
accepted it that way." It is believed that the newspaper exaggerated what actually happened that night to discredit radio as a source of news and to
prove to advertisers, and regulators, that radio management was irresponsible. This is because radio had taken all of the revenue from advertising
agencies, leaving very little to the newspapers, so they wanted to find a way to get back the people who would rather have their advertising money
spent on the radio. Campbell wrote a book titled Getting it Wrong: Ten of the Greatest Misreported Stories in American Journalism, in which he talks

War of the Worlds Analysis
All creation evolves with the idea of survival of the fittest; there is always competition for control in an environment. This idea supports the theory that
power is fleeting and that there is nothing in creation that reigns permanently all–powerful. In War of the Worlds H.G. Wells uses title, setting, and
irony to convey the theme that when a force stands as the most potent entity in a system, there is always another power to put the other in check.
Herbert George Wells was an English writer born on September 21, 1866, in Bromley, Kent, England, and died August 13, 1946, in London, England.
He was the youngest of four children of Joseph Wells, a shopkeeper and cricketer, and Sarah Neal, a former domestic servant. He attended Thomas
Morley's Commercial Academy as a child, and was a pupil–teacher at the National School at Wookey and later at Midhurst Grammar School. He
studied biology and Darwinian evolution at the Royal College of Science in London. Throughout his educational and professional career Wells
developed a passion for expressing his ideas on society, politics, and religion through writing. He is most known for his contributions to the genre of
science fiction, most notably The War of the Worlds
, The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, and The Island of Doctor Moreau.
The title is significant in its literal meaning and application. War of the Worlds literally means an armed conflict between planets. That is exactly what

What Is Folkloric Like Epic Hero
The role and cultural description of what would be call a folkloric–like epic hero didn't change for many years...
Batman, Spiderman, Superman, or even the Hulk are just echoes of what would be recognized as folkloric–like epic heroes. Basically, a hero that is
pictured as a "larger than life" character, who fights the forces of evil, usually pictured as a vicious, cruel, villain or gruesome fiend.
Accordingly, the story of Beowulf is a classic example of such, including a clear folkloric epic hero which is Beowulf, who fights forces of evil,
presented as Grendel, his mother, and a fire breathing dragon. Moreover, Beowulf express an expansive deal of heroic traits; for example: his bravery
and boldness, yet baffling fairness in his decisions before his first encounter with Grendel that can be seen in this excerpt from the poem:
Lines 259–268;
"...I have heard, Too, that the monster's scorn of men Is so great that he needs no weapons and fears none. Nor will I. My lord Higlac Might think

CBS is responsible for the nationwide panic created by a CBS broadcast in 1938 that was narrated by Orson Welles reading his version of the novel
"War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells. CBS is responsible because it broadcasted the show and if the show hadn't been broadcasted, the panic would have
never happened. "The radio play, narrated by Orson Welles, had been written and performed to sound like a real news broadcast about an invasion
from Mars ("'War of the Worlds': Behind the 1938 Radio Show Panic" 1). CBS broadcasted the story like it was a real news announcement making it

Wells if they could change the story before they did, it may have turned out differently. H.G. Wells may not have wanted CBS to change it as much
as they did. If the changes had not been made, then the broadcast may not have been as scary. However, CBS' management did not ask permission
so it is their fault that the broadcast was scary, realistic, and caused widespread panic. "The revisions also removed several clues that might have
helped late listeners figure out that the invasion was fake" ("The Infamous 'War of the Worlds' Radio Broadcast was a Magnificent Fluke" 5). The
way CBS changed the story made it very realistic as the fact that the broadcast was fictitious was mentioned only four times and was structured like a
normal news broadcast. If a person tuned to CBS late and missed the first announcements about the broadcast being fictional, then they would
probably believe the broadcast was announcing true news. Many people believe that the listeners are responsible for the panic, but CBS made the
broadcast very believable and did not remind the listeners enough that the broadcast was fake news. In conclusion, CBS is responsible for the panic

Optimism In William Golding's 'The Island'
Is there any optimism in the novel?
There is an overwhelming optimism at the start of the novel when the boys arrive. The Island is first depicted as a paradise where "flower and fruit
grew together on the same tree." The excitement of being without adult supervision first thrills them as they all band together, but even then there is
scepticism from some of the boys about the thought of rescue and how they will find a solution to this, which is mostly seen from Piggy. However,
even if the Island does seem to resemble a 'utopia' at first glance, this is undermined by William Golding from the very beginning. Instead of constantly
describing the Island in paradisiacal ways, the author seems to hint at a different view of the Island from the start: using adjectives like "witch–like"
and "decaying" to foreshadow the eventual show of evil in the novel. The present continuous tense of the word 'decaying' also makes it seem more
imminent, and how it is happening right now means that evil is there right from the beginning: there is not a specific change in the novel. Another
example of this is the rest of the boys' bullying of Piggy. When Jack and Ralph initially make fun of him, setting off the other boys laughter, it is a
show of the sin and evil within the boys. Furthermore, this is again shown right at the start when Ralph and Piggy meet; in which Ralph "danced into
the hot air of the beach and then returned as a fighter–plane, with wings swept back, and machine–gunned Piggy." This displays his immaturity and his
capacity for corruption.
War is how the novel begins and ends: starting with the boys crashing onto an island somewhere in the Pacific most likely evacuating from the World
War when bombing began, and ending with the remaining children being rescued by a naval officer and being carried back into the world where the
War never ended. Even with this, there is still violence and conflict during the boys time on the Island, which concludes to the constant state of
aggression in the novel. The officer at the end says "I should have thought that a pack of British boys ... would have put up a better show than that."
Which reflects the boys same moral blindness at the beginning of the novel. This statement shows

World War II was an exceptional war for the United States. The United States emerged from the war as a world superpower and protector of all

directly connected to every reason. Roosevelt wanted to enter World War II as soon as it started for political and economic needs. However, the

Although Roosevelt was a great United States President, there is the matter of how exactly the United States entered World War II. There is no
debate that Roosevelt thought that the United States should enter World War II. He knew that fascism was wrong and that the Axis Powers, led
ultimately by Adolph Hitler of Germany, had to be defeated to protect democracy. Also, Roosevelt knew a war would boost the United State's
economy severely. Generally, in war time there is many more jobs, which decreases unemployment tremendously. However, the majority of the
citizens of the United States wanted to take an isolated approach from the rest of the world as far as foreign affairs are concerned. As much as 85%
of the public opposed entering the war.4 The United States did not want to enter into another world war, such as World War I, that costs so many

Steven Spielberg utilizes many techniques, in his film, War of the Worlds, including camera work, actors and sound effects to convey various themes

'Worst of Man' is essentially a turning point in the story where the audience witnesses Ray's love for his children. Robbie wears his cap backwards.
Spielberg uses this symbolism to show Robbie's youth and rebellion against his father. The director uses sound effects to establish the danger at the
war zone where the military is attempting to fight off the alien. After Ray hands the car over to Robbie, he wears his cap correctly because he is given
adult–like responsibilities. Not only that, but Ray trusts Robbie which shows how the theme of family relationships develops. Later in the scene,
Robbie hands the car over to Ray as they approach a mob of people showing that he still relies on his him and this demonstrates the change in their
relationship. This also is supported because for the first time in the film Robbie calls Ray "dad". When the crowd is still attacking Robbie and his
father, Ray gets attention with his gun. He asks "Where is my son?" and when their car is almost lost, Ray wants "the daughter not the car". Both of
these examples of dialogue in the scene and his actions shows how their relationship is changing and to what extent he will go to save the lives of his

First off, the detection of nuclear missiles in Cuba brought out a horrifying fear for many people as they thought that the testing of these nuclear
weapons would result in major problems for them. Following the war, the Soviets and the United States took on a multitude of nuclear weapons that
in the end could end up destroying entire nations and potentially the entire world (Winkler, 97). These atomic weapons were created through the force
of splitting atoms apart, which was an extremely powerful weapon leading to hydrogen weapons which were even more powerful (Winkler, 102). At

25,000 up to 30,000, and they have reinforcements of 16,000 to 42,000 troops. Russia has also scuttled a cruiser hulk, a tug boat, a diving support
vessel, and an unidentified ship to block Ukrainian ships from getting into Crimean ports. With control of the border, and the ports blocked, Russia has
walled off Crimea from Ukraine. The Russians have installed the pro–Russian politician Sergey Aksyoov as the Prime Minister of Crimea, along with
pro–Russian politician Aleksei Chalyi as the mayor of Sevastopol, which is Crimea's capital city. So far, the United States, the United Kingdom,
France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Canada, Turkey, and the European Union have accused Russia of breaking international law and violating Ukrainian
sovereignty. This is all happening right under the nose of the United Nations

Inspector Calls Essay
What do you think is the importance of Inspector Goole and how does Priestley present him?
Inspector Goole creates a massive presence within 'An Inspector Calls' and through him we are able to explore each character and Priestly himself. The
Inspector is a vital character within the play and allows Priestly to channel through his thoughts, feelings and messages to society by creating the
seemingly omniscient Inspector Goole. In the essay I will illustrate the importance of the Inspector and demonstrate how Priestly presents him.
The Inspector is the vehicle that helps us understand each characters personality and views, we see this with Sheila – once a naive young girl who
seemed quite shallow to begin with becomes a sympathetic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, his name "Goole" infers and has connotations of "ghoul" which is an evil spirit therefore indicating that he might not be human. Priestly
uses a dramatic device of lighting change "pink and intimate" to "brighter and harder" to really show how the Inspector is different to the others and
this in turn reflects his harsh personality and how the atmosphere changes so much when he's around relating to his "other world" presence.
Mrs Birling is a character that is affected by the Inspector in a superficial way: she's more bothered about what other people will think about her
being involved than how she actually helped kill a poor woman. We see the two contrasts of how Sheila reacts and how Mrs Birling reacts which is
effective as Priestly is able to demonstrate that the Inspector is like a conscience of the family; like in the real world some people are able to ignore
their conscience and not feel bad whereas some people really feel their guilt when they have done something wrong. This therefore is why the Inspector
is so important in the play, and in his last speech he makes reference to the World War1 and 2 and how people had still not learnt their lesson (used
dramatic irony but applies it to the Birling's situation) and sets it straight to them that if they have

Why Was Operation Torch Important

  • 1. Why Was Operation Torch Important The first historical item I have found in this article was Maj. Gen. George Patton. He was born in San Gabriel, California on November 11, 1885. Considered one of the most successful combat generals in U.S history, he was the first officer assigned to the Tank Corps in WWI. During WWII, he helped lead the Allies to victory in the invasion of Sicily, and was instrumental to the liberation of Germany from the Nazis. He was skilled at tank warfare. He died on December 21, 1945 in Heidelberg, Germany. The second historical item I have found was the Play Ball. The Play ball was only two words long message. It could have referred to almost anything. Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, the future president and Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The operation Torch was the name given to the Allied invasion of French North Africa in November 1942. Operation Torch (initially called Operation Gymnast) was the British–United States invasion of French North Africa during the North African Campaign of the Second World War which started on 8 November 1942. The successful Allied operation has been described as a "critical turning point in the war" and laid the foundations for America's post–war Middle East policy. Despite its important role in the war, Torch has been largely overlooked. Operation Torch was the first time the British and Americans had jointly worked on an invasion plan together. The sixth historical item I have found was Hans Auer. Hans Auer was German Consul General in Casablanca. Two nights before the US struck, he had called a meeting of twelve Nazi armistice commissioners at the Hotel Plaza to warn them that an Allied invasion was imminent. The seventh historical item I have found was De Gaullists. De Gaullists followed the Germans, and set up machine guns covering hotel's exits. The blaze of gunfire silenced the Nazis when the meeting broke up. Although De Gaullist guns disrupted Nazis preparations, the Nazis were still able to put up the immense resistance to the U.S. ... • 2. Analysis Of Orson Welles's 'The War Of The Worlds' On October 30, 1938 Orson Welles would scared the nation with his radio broadcast titled "The War of the Worlds." The American people became hysterical that an actual alien invasion was happening right before their ears. They could hear what was going on while it was broadcasting live on the radio. It was with this notion that Welles fooled his listeners. He could do this by interrupting the broadcast multiple times and have reporters interview eye witnesses. This came at a time when the American people relied on the radio for news and entertainment. Welles preyed on the notion that the American people relied on the radio for an understanding of the world in familiar terms. He would prove how easy American people believed in what they were told by the media and how they could be provoked into mass delusion. One of the reasons the American people were fooled into thinking Welles' program was real is that the program was consistently interrupted with "real news updates." These updates added in a factor of realism that what the audience was listening to was happening at the same time. These interruptions would be signaled by the announcer coming on to give updates to previous ones. An example of this from the program itself goes: "Ladies and gentlemen, following on the news given in our bulletin a moment ago, the Government Meteorological Bureau has requested the large observatories of the country to keep an astronomical watch on any further disturbances occurring on the ... • 3. World War Hulk's Summary : The Hulk Vs. Sentry Hulk vs Sentry A giant green monster versus a raging celestial level being. The debate of who is stronger has been around ever since their debut fight in 2007. Some think that the giant green monster Hulk is stronger than the raging celestial being, Sentry. Both characters are extremely strong in their own respect. However, there is only one choice as to who is stronger. When the story writer Rick Jones wrote theWorld War Hulkstoryline, he wrote it to show just how strong Hulk and Sentry really are. Nowhere in comics has Hulk or Sentry been written to show their full power. This was the first look as to who are the absolute strongest characters on Earth in Marvel comics. When people reference the strength of the two when debating or arguing, they are talking about this fight in Rick Jones's storyline World War Hulk. In the end though, The Incredible Hulk is stronger and better than Sentry because of his limitless stamina, strength, and rage. Hulk was an accident. Hulk is an alter ego of Bruce Banner. Bruce Banner is the son of a raging alcoholic who would beat him and his mother. His father Brian was relentless and would abuse Bruce and his mother if they ever said anything about his behavior to the public. When Bruce was getting beaten, his mother intervened to try and stop the abuse. As a result, Brian killed her. • 5. Captain Marvel's Influence On American Culture Starting from Captain America : "And given that Captain America was created in the early 40s (his premiere issue went on sale December 20, 1940), his ultra–patriotic nature had a purpose. Simon and Kirby were not what you would call "fans" of Nazi Germany's blitzkriegs throughout Europe. But the USA still wouldn't join the war effort in 1940, and so Simon and Kirby needed a hero who could embody the American intervention they believed was right." (74 Years of Captain America) At the beginning, Marvel supported American Freedom, as well as the freedom of other countries and that is the basis of how and why they were connected to so many wars. Captain America's "patriotism was a colossal hit with American comic readers – that first Captain America book sold nearly a million copies, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Comic books during this time were not mere trifles, but rather existed as part of the larger cultural fabric. Comics reflected the cultural visions of comic book creators, men who often used comics to advance specific visions. Therefore, the study of comic books is not merely a passive exercise, but rather entails a serious re–examination of American culture during this period." (The Golden Age.) With Captain America being the hero of the Second World War, the embodiment of pure American Patriotism, there had to be someone else to take up the banner during the Cold War. That hero was the high tech Iron Man. (O'Neil, T.) • 6. War Of The Worlds Conflict The War of the Worlds is a fictional novel written by H.G Wells in the year 1898. It was one of the first stories that shows a scenario of conflict between the human race and extraterrestrials. It was published by Dover Publications, Inc with a copyright date set in 1997. The book has 145 pages. The story takes place in London, England in the final years of the 19th century. The conflict is external(man vs man) and towards the end of the story, becomes internal(man vs self). All is normal in London when a missile is seen flying through space with its origins from Mars. Before we know it, Martians are wreaking havoc throughout London. Later the main character starts to think of the future for the human race, and struggles with his sanity. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most important and critical decisions made was the martian's decision to get rid of bacteria on their planet thousands of years before. Doing this, their bodies had no need for a resistance against bacteria. This made the martians very susceptible and vulnerable to disease and viruses contracted from Earth. Humans have gained a strong resistance over millions of years, because bacteria and disease has been around since the beginning of time. " these germs of disease have taken poll of humanity since the beginning of things–taken tool of our pre–human ancestors since life began here. But by virtue of this natural selection of our kind we have developed resisting power; to no germs do we succumb without a struggle, and to many–does that cause putrefaction in that matter, for instance–our living frames are altogether immune. But there are no bacteria on Mars..."(Wells 137). If the martians had been prepared for this situation, Earth surely would have been doomed, and under control of the martian pioneers. Wells truly was one of the most creative writers of his time. In the late 1800s there were no other writings of extraterrestrials like this one. This book really makes the reader begin to wonder about the mysteries of life in space, and if humans really are the top of the food chain. Especially during the time it was written in. • 8. The Impact Of Technology On The Environment Technology is defined as anything that makes life easier. There are times where technology can make life easier just as a phone can make your life easier by allowing you something to use to stay in touch with those people that are around you. There are also times where technology can make life harder because it is used against nature and can ruin places. Some of those times are: the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, China's environmental degradation, World War II, and the secondIndustrial Revolution. These are all times in history where the environment took a turn for the worst because of the newest technology that was created and used. Oil Spill Oil spills can impact the environment greatly. Since the oil boats are on the ocean if the break and start to leak it goes into the ocean where it can harm the ocean and those that make their home in it. "That spill caused an immediate and significant impact to the ecosystem, with sightings of birds and turtles washed up on beaches covered with oil, as well as an increase in the deaths of other marine life" (Sinclair, 2017). The oil spill in 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico was the biggest since Deepwater Horizon. It caused harm to the ecosystem around it because technology came in so it could pump oil out of the ground under the ocean. There is no way to know the impact that oil spill and really every oil spill has had on the marine ecosystem. China's Environmental Degradation The population on China is constantly increasing and it is increasing quickly. Because of the population increase there are more and more carbon emission, which is causing a lot of pollution in China. "While China's economic boom has greatly accelerated the devastation of its land and resources, the roots of its environmental problem stretch back centuries" (Albert and Xu, 2016). China's environment is becoming more and more polluted and it is also causing harm to the plants, animals and ecosystem there. China's population began booming and has increased by about 10% every year for the last decade (Albert and Xu, 2016). While the population increases so does the industrialization of the country which in turn increases the carbon emissions and pollution. The water is also becoming increasingly ... • 10. The Between Greek Mythology And The Berserkers From Norse... Those that have read certain comic books, or seen some movies, know that Hulk is a huge creature with immense strength and an incredible healing factor. When inspecting other historic and mythological figures, it could be that the Hulk is very similar to Hercules from Greek mythology, and the Berserkers from Norse history and mythology. To begin with, theHulk is only half of the equation to the character. Originally, Hulk was a human named Bruce Banner. Banner was an incredible scientist that at one time oversaw gamma bomb development. "On the day of the bomb's scheduled detonation, Banner saw someone in the testing area. Hoping to rescue this person, Banner went into the testing area... This resulted in Banner being caught in the Gamma Bomb explosion and thus exposed to an incredibly massive amount of gamma radiation."(Comic Vine). In most humans, an incident like the one Banner went through would have killed them; at the very least they would be riddled with cancer. No such things plagued banner, instead of killing him, it gave him a form of power. When Banner becomes too angry, he transforms into the giant green creature that is referred to as the Hulk. Hulk gains his powers from his anger, the more fury that Hulk has, the more powerful he becomes. Additionally, Mythologically speaking the Berserkers, are similar to hulk. Wells, is the first –person narrative of an unnamed protagonist's (and his brother's) adventures in Surrey and London as Earth is invaded by aliens. Written in 1895, it is one of the earliest stories that details a conflict between mankind and an extraterrestrial race. Despite its age, this book is still a widely–enjoyed classic, and has inspired nearly 50 movies, 6 Broadway productions, and 2 musicals (one of which I personally own) in its time! But after a few hours the narrator perceives the lunacy of this plan and the overall laziness of his companion and abandons the artilleryman to his delusions. Heading into a deserted London, he is at the point of despair and offers his life to the aliens when he discovers that the invaders have died from microbial infections to which they had no immunity, since "there are no bacteria in Mars." The narrator realises with joy that the threat has been vanquished. The narrator suffers a brief breakdown of which he remembers nothing, he is nursed back to health by a kind family, and returns home to find his wife, whom he had given up for dead. The last chapter, entitled "Epilogue," reflects on the significance of the invasion and the "abiding sense of doubt and insecurity" that it has left in the narrator's mind. On the other hand, in The War of the WorldsH. G. Wells exclaimed, " One on the extreme left, the remotest that is, flourished a huge case high in the air, and the ghostly, terrible Heat–Ray I had already seen on Friday night smote towards Chertsey, and struck the town" (260). This source makes it clear that the aliens had this specific machine that can transform itself and make it into town to ruin anything in its path. This was coming from up above, thus this couldn't really target the people, this lead to the narrator going under water which saved him from the Heat–Ray. As well as, these events lead them in a bad place since they had made these decisions to further themselves from the aliens which only put them at risk. In War of the Worlds H.G. Wells demonstrates, "I faced about again, and rushed towards the approaching Martian, rushed right down the gravelly beach and headlong into the water" (270). The narrator risked his life during this process with the possibility of staying in the water for too long and not being able to breathe. In "Zero Hour", it states, "They tumbled into the attic, she slammed the door, locked it, threw the key into a far, cluttered corner" ( Bradbury 259). Wells' novel "The War Of The Worlds" depends upon late Victorian insecurities to generate a thrilling climate of terror. Wells feeds off of the politics at that point in time, the ethics and beliefs of his contemporaries and also the sense of false pride and arrogance that white Victorians had considering that they were top of the natural selection hierarchy. Wells' also wrote about Victorians losing their faith in religion and the church. Some Victorians believed that god was punishing them as a world war was looming and some even doubted his existence, as there was no proof for it. To illustrate this, Wells created the curate as a highly religious character who had faith in god and also questioned why god had brought this war upon them. The following quote illustrates this, when the curate said "The end! The great and terrible day of the Lord! Wells manipulates the culture of the time and so creates a novel which preys upon their underlying feelings of anxiety and resentment of the people they conquered. In the past religion controlled almost every aspect of life for British people, and it provided an easy means of escape from menial life. It explained the mysteries around them. But Wells was writing in a time when these comforts were being replaced by science. It was explaining the mysteries and people were beginning to doubt religion and God. Through the use of hyper–realism (imposing a fantasy story on a real world with real town names) he created a sense of unease because the aliens' coming was not prophesised in the Bible, and yet he makes it seem very believable and real for aliens to come. Wells, The War of the World, written in 1897 and the film with the same title directed by Steven Spielberg released in 2005 there are many similarities and many differences. Based on many of the facts of this story I believe this to be an intermediate adaptation. It is clear that Loki was waiting for this to happen; he has selected to tune out every other information and wait for one thing he is interested on. One of councilmen wrongfully assumes that Asgard has declared war with planet earth. Since Loki is from Asgard, councilman thinks all asgardians are the enemy. We can see how assuming people are a certain way because of similarities is incorrect. However, this is something that we do often. Throughout the novel, people choose to not believe in the Martians, even when the Martians are in the next town destroying everything. In fact, no one had even thought of the idea of Martians, even when Mars was proven to have the capacity to harbor life. • 29. The Darvaza Gas Crater: The Door To Hell The Darvaza gas crater is the official door to hell, burning for over 50 years and has never stopped. It was found by soviet engineers in 1971 when Barrikad Smyshlyaev and his partner Geroinja truda were looking for oil. They started drilling on a spot that they thought was an oil mine. When the Door to hell was broken into and Barrikad Smyshlyaev was sucked into the fiery gates of hell. After truda saw the crater she ran back to the city to find help but unfortunately no one could believe anything she had to say. Until one man offered to help her. Albert Sasman ran back with her to the Door to hell, when they got there he was completely caught aback he had no idea what he was seeing. Flash forward a year and people began to wonder why the fire never lost its power and was still burning. After one more year the crater got its name 'The Door to Hell'. Although people have been saying "This is the door to hell", a lot of people are saying there is a scientific reason behind the fire. People believe that the reason the fire is burning is because there is oil in the crater. Another rumor is that someone set the crater on fire to prevent the spread of methane gas. CBS Broadcast Conspiracy CBS is responsible for the nationwide panic created by a CBS broadcast in 1938 that was narrated by Orson Welles reading his version of the novel "War of the Worlds" by H.G. Wells. CBS is responsible because it broadcasted the show and if the show hadn't been broadcasted, the panic would have never happened. "The radio play, narrated by Orson Welles, had been written and performed to sound like a real news broadcast about an invasion from Mars ("'War of the Worlds': Behind the 1938 Radio Show Panic" 1). Wells if they could change the story before they did, it may have turned out differently. H.G. Wells may not have wanted CBS to change it as much as they did. If the changes had not been made, then the broadcast may not have been as scary. However, CBS' management did not ask permission so it is their fault that the broadcast was scary, realistic, and caused widespread panic. "The revisions also removed several clues that might have helped late listeners figure out that the invasion was fake" ("The Infamous 'War of the Worlds' Radio Broadcast was a Magnificent Fluke" 5). The way CBS changed the story made it very realistic as the fact that the broadcast was fictitious was mentioned only four times and was structured like a normal news broadcast. If a person tuned to CBS late and missed the first announcements about the broadcast being fictional, then they would probably believe the broadcast was announcing true news. Many people believe that the listeners are responsible for the panic, but CBS made the broadcast very believable and did not remind the listeners enough that the broadcast was fake news. • 31. Optimism In William Golding's 'The Island' Is there any optimism in the novel? There is an overwhelming optimism at the start of the novel when the boys arrive. The Island is first depicted as a paradise where "flower and fruit grew together on the same tree." The excitement of being without adult supervision first thrills them as they all band together, but even then there is scepticism from some of the boys about the thought of rescue and how they will find a solution to this, which is mostly seen from Piggy. However, even if the Island does seem to resemble a 'utopia' at first glance, this is undermined by William Golding from the very beginning. Instead of constantly describing the Island in paradisiacal ways, the author seems to hint at a different view of the Island from the start: using adjectives like "witch–like" and "decaying" to foreshadow the eventual show of evil in the novel. The present continuous tense of the word 'decaying' also makes it seem more imminent, and how it is happening right now means that evil is there right from the beginning: there is not a specific change in the novel. Another example of this is the rest of the boys' bullying of Piggy. When Jack and Ralph initially make fun of him, setting off the other boys laughter, it is a show of the sin and evil within the boys. Furthermore, this is again shown right at the start when Ralph and Piggy meet; in which Ralph "danced into the hot air of the beach and then returned as a fighter–plane, with wings swept back, and machine–gunned Piggy." This displays his immaturity and his capacity for corruption. War is how the novel begins and ends: starting with the boys crashing onto an island somewhere in the Pacific most likely evacuating from the World War when bombing began, and ending with the remaining children being rescued by a naval officer and being carried back into the world where the War never ended. Even with this, there is still violence and conflict during the boys time on the Island, which concludes to the constant state of aggression in the novel. The officer at the end says "I should have thought that a pack of British boys ... would have put up a better show than that." Which reflects the boys same moral blindness at the beginning of the novel. This statement shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is no debate that Roosevelt thought that the United States should enter World War II. He knew that fascism was wrong and that the Axis Powers, led ultimately by Adolph Hitler of Germany, had to be defeated to protect democracy. Also, Roosevelt knew a war would boost the United State's economy severely. Generally, in war time there is many more jobs, which decreases unemployment tremendously. 'Worst of Man' is essentially a turning point in the story where the audience witnesses Ray's love for his children. Robbie wears his cap backwards. Spielberg uses this symbolism to show Robbie's youth and rebellion against his father. The director uses sound effects to establish the danger at the war zone where the military is attempting to fight off the alien. After Ray hands the car over to Robbie, he wears his cap correctly because he is given adult–like responsibilities. Not only that, but Ray trusts Robbie which shows how the theme of family relationships develops. Later in the scene, Robbie hands the car over to Ray as they approach a mob of people showing that he still relies on his him and this demonstrates the change in their relationship. This also is supported because for the first time in the film Robbie calls Ray "dad". When the crowd is still attacking Robbie and his father, Ray gets attention with his gun. He asks "Where is my son?" and when their car is almost lost, Ray wants "the daughter not the car". Both of these examples of dialogue in the scene and his actions shows how their relationship is changing and to what extent he will go to save the lives of his children. In a later scene, 'The Fight Begins', Spielberg uses sound effects and dialogue to show the trust and belief between Robbie and Ray. Distant sounds of machine guns and bombs convey the ... This was the start of an immense deal of troubles between the two nations and a realization that there was an immense lack of communication amid them that would be fixed in the next couple of years. The Cuban Missile Crisis does not need to be looked at like a crisis or devastating point in history at all. In fact it could very easily be seen as a good thing that connected the nations and caused new things to develop ("The Cuban Missile Crisis begins"). First off, the detection of nuclear missiles in Cuba brought out a horrifying fear for many people as they thought that the testing of these nuclear weapons would result in major problems for them. Following the war, the Soviets and the United States took on a multitude of nuclear weapons that in the end could end up destroying entire nations and potentially the entire world (Winkler, 97). These atomic weapons were created through the force of splitting atoms apart, which was an extremely powerful weapon leading to hydrogen weapons which were even more powerful (Winkler, 102). Inspector Goole creates a massive presence within 'An Inspector Calls' and through him we are able to explore each character and Priestly himself. The Inspector is a vital character within the play and allows Priestly to channel through his thoughts, feelings and messages to society by creating the seemingly omniscient Inspector Goole. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, his name "Goole" infers and has connotations of "ghoul" which is an evil spirit therefore indicating that he might not be human. Priestly uses a dramatic device of lighting change "pink and intimate" to "brighter and harder" to really show how the Inspector is different to the others and this in turn reflects his harsh personality and how the atmosphere changes so much when he's around relating to his "other world" presence. Mrs Birling is a character that is affected by the Inspector in a superficial way: she's more bothered about what other people will think about her being involved than how she actually helped kill a poor woman. We see the two contrasts of how Sheila reacts and how Mrs Birling reacts which is effective as Priestly is able to demonstrate that the Inspector is like a conscience of the family; like in the real world some people are able to ignore their conscience and not feel bad whereas some people really feel their guilt when they have done something wrong. This therefore is why the Inspector is so important in the play, and in his last speech he makes reference to the World War1 and 2 and how people had still not learnt their lesson (used dramatic irony but applies it to the Birling's situation) and sets it straight to them that if they have ...
