(Brave New World Compare/Contrast Essay) Aldous Huxley, one of the most gifted and influential literary figures of the mid

the intriguing story Brave New World. The story focused on a perfect Utopia that existed in the future and a man from a different society that came in

I Woke Up From My Nap
I woke up from my nap. From that nap I went to school and I was given a challenge. Something that sounds almost impossible, go twelve hours without
any electronics unless an emergency. As the assignment was given out. I thought to myself without my phone and tv, how would I go hours being
awoke with no electronics devices. So, I brainstormed that entire day.
I came up with a nice little list of things I could do to past time. It sounded like a really big task at hand, but I felt as if I could easily do it, if I out my
mind to it. So, Saturday I prepared myself for the assignment. I dry texted people the entire day, I didn 't text some people back, and I listened to
music the whole day. Got a goodnight rest because Sunday was going to be a big day. Right before I went to sleep I put my phone on airplane mode
and I put my phone in my footlocker/chest, closed my eyelids and went to sleep.
Instantly when I woke up I had forgot about the entire thing and I began to panic! I throw my covers off of my bed in pursuit to find my phone. After

What were the total hours spent on the product?
A. Research
I spent a total of five hours on my research. During my hours I spent I have
learned so much. My research has helped me to realize the increase and decrease of the
men salaries. The research has helped me to understand what should I do to let the
younger teenagers know about the men salaries, and why they are rated so high. Some
people think since they are men, their salaries should be rated high. While doing my
research there are many different reasons why men are the top salary markers.

At first glance, you wouldn't think much of this small–town, country–style restaurant, tucked up in the corner of a run–out plaza. Yet as you draw

When we think of metaphor, do we think good, bad, or do we just think it 's just a thing that we use and not put much thought into it? Well reading
this book called I is an Other by James Geary has really opened my eyes to really understand the concept of metaphor and what some of its purposes
are. I must say that before reading this book I had never thought of metaphor more than what I thought it was, but the way Geary talks about it
definitely made me think on how it does affect us and that we use it much more than we think. Geary touches on a lot of points that involve
metaphor without us even knowing it is there. For instance, Geary says that metaphor is not just restricted to literature and art, but it is also used
to reach people in ways like advertising, politics, and money (3). He talks about metaphor being part of our lives from the very early stages of life,

As I said before, I grew up in a middle class family. This made it difficult for me to completely understand everything that he was talking about in
the book. I never knew what it was like to have little or no food to eat. If we didn't have anything to eat our family would go to a restaurant and eat or
go shopping and get food.
Also, the work aspect is difficult to understand for me. I know what his mother did was what all people in her situation did then. The working

For this narrative, I interviewed my mom, Amanda Lopez. At first, she seems mean. That's very blunt but it's true. My mom is a very guarded and
self–reserved person. She does have manners and she is nice but, she won't open up immediately to a new person. She is also very hard working and
independent. She wasn't born with these qualities, she went through a lot of different struggles, but that's how she ended up where she is today.

It had been a fairly, nice day. Work wasn't to bad. My boss wasn't on my tail for not getting him a paper on time. It was supper time when I got

4 years old, sat there picking at his scab. My husband came in with the last plate. Jason had been out of a job for 9 months now, so he was the stay

Our second principle for better self–empowerment is the overcoming of fear in general. Fear is a part of our lives. It appears when we are uncertain
or faced with something new. It is natural to feel this way, but it can become a problem when it rules our every decision. If for instance, thefear of
failing a job interview keeps you indoors and miserable, then there's a serious problem here. So, what is fear? Well, fear can be described as an
uncomfortable emotion caused by the strong impression that a person or an object is harmful, capable of causing pain, or a poses threat. In other
words, the fear of something or somebody is something that can easily threaten your wellbeing.
It's one thing to be scared of something new, or scared because you feel you're being threatened, but it is a problem if you use fear to make excuses
for your failures in life. For instance, you have people saying "huh, I don't want to go and work overseas because I'm scared of people who don't
speak the same language as me". And people like that almost never get out of the country. They spend their holidays here in the states as well as their

Her students call her tot or tottie which is very ironic because she is a big–bone woman. Together with Irwin and Hector, she makes sure that the boys
will pass the exam. She teaches history to the students as what inscribed on the books and hesitatingly lets Irwin shapes the mindset of the boys for
she knows that the boys will not get the Oxbridge scholarship if they are still as innocent as the previous semester. Her biggest attention is given to the

"Cold Water"
Cold Water, directed by Noriko Ogami is a documentary from 1986 about cross–cultural adaptation and culture shock. It is about diving into a new
culture and having it feel, as one foreign student puts it, like a "plunge into cold water." Twelve Boston University foreign students express their
perceptions of their experiences in the U.S. as each of them (plus one American student and three specialists) is interviewed about living and studying in
a new culture. Initial focus is on the arrival and immediate post–arrival period and the culture shock which, for most of the interviewees, follows on its

Next, things gets easier. The third stage said from this documentary happens to be the adjustment stage. Here things start to clear up and you start to
feel more at ease and at home. Frustrations are often subdued as travelers begin to feel more familiar and comfortable with the cultures, people, food,
and languages of new environments. Soon the navigation becomes easier along with the friends and communities of support are being established.
Finally the last stage is referred as the "acceptance stage," according to one foreign student. After some weeks or months we are noticing improvement
within ourselves after have wrestling with the emotional stages. The final stage of cultural shock doesn't mean that the new cultures and environments
are completely understood, it signifies realization that complete understanding isn't necessary to function and thrive in new surroundings. During this
stage, travelers have the familiarity and are able to draw together the resources they need to feel at ease.
The same students which laid out for us the stages of cultural shock also shared their experiences expressing how they felt about Americans. Tina
Lang, one of the foreign students at Boston University referred Americans as "superficial." As direct and straight forward as that description was I
like to agree with her. As Americans we are so focused on looking our best on the outside that we never put aside any time to work on our

So many of my classmates through the years had complained about having to read excerpts from old stories. They didn't understand why they had to
read pieces of Beowulf, or the Iliad. Only a handful of us enjoyed what we read and could comprehend the cryptic writings. Those who were willing
to read and maybe reread the text were able to retain more information so they would be better equip for some other circumstances. Not only did they

boring. One never knows when they will need knowledge from someone in the past.

Don Manuel Osorio Manrique De Ziga
Simply put, Don Manuel Osorio Manrique De Ziga is a great piece of art. The colours used in the piece were very well used. The meaning was very
easy for me to find in the piece. I had also learned a very important life lesson from the piece. Don Manuel Osorio Manrique De Ziga captures how
fleeting a child's innocence can be through its powerful colours and imagery.
The thing that was most prominent in this piece was the range of colours used. Firstly, almost all the colours highly contrast with each other. The
first thing that immediately popped out to me was the little boy in the picture. His outfit was a bright red while the rest of the piece was muted
earth tones. It makes the boy the focal point and helped me find what I feel is the meaning of the peace. Secondly, the muted earth tones work very
well with piece. No colours stand out in particular, which I think was the goal with this piece. The piece is comprised of mossy, almost sickly
looking greens and dark chocolate brown, giving off the vibe that maybe the painting was really old, even went it was first revealed. Thirdly, all
the colours in the picture feel very cold and distant. The red is almost too bright, and isn't a warm, easy on the eyes type of red. The greens, grays
and browns feel cold and damp, and bring no comfort into the piece. The colour of the child skin himself is very pale, the whole painting not with a

Comic–Con has given us a lot of good stuff this year. Surprisingly, it didn 't really give us anything from the Star Wars Universe in terms of
live–action movie stuff. We expected another trailer for Rogue One, but that never actually happened. Either way, we got some great stuff from DC,
Marvel, and the other companies that also happen to make films. Also, there were comics there. But SDCC doesn 't really care about comics and more,

Critique of The Great Divorce The Great Divorce is a wonderful work of literature written by C.S. Lewis about a mans trip on a bus to heaven and
an understanding of eternity written form a first person perspective. It starts out with this man getting on a bus with several other people on it; to his
surprise the bus begins to fly. After a while in flight the bus begins to descend, and the trees that were once figures far below him begin to get closer
and closer until finally he lands on a completely different plant than Earth. One of the first things that he realizes when he, and the others, step off the
bus is that the people who he road there with, who were once full figured, regular looking people, had now become ghost; "man–stains on the

Online Learning Vs. Traditional Classroom
When a person thinks of someone going to college they probably imagine them walking across a large campus or sitting in a lecture hall among other
students. While this is the way many people do choose to attend college, there are also those who have chosen to get their degree in an online setting.
Online learning gives people the opportunity to get their education in a way that is more flexible and can fit in with their daily lives. Though both are
reputable forms of higher educations, there are distinct differences between learning in a tradition classroom and learning in an online setting.

Most humans resist the idea of stepping directly into the things that frighten them. Of course, there are some things that warrant fear and deserve
avoidance action (crime, fire, hurricanes, etc). But those are things we don 't tend to encounter regularly in our daily lives (hopefully).
Fear, none–the–less, is often present and yet not always warranted. If you are reaching beyond your comfort zone, you 'll likely feel afraid. That does
NOT mean, you shouldn 't reach. You should always reach.
Here are some specific strategies you can use to take that fear and turn it into freedom, financial freedom or personal freedom.
1. Do the scariest thing on your to–do list the first thing in the morning
This will free you up immediately. Even if you don 't get the result you wanted, just the fact that you confronted your fear and took action will build
your confidence and allow you to tackle other things on your list that will now feel easy and breezy.
2. Ask your inner guidance what the fear is trying

Aristotle continues to describe how some people believe that the entire universe was created in a moment of spontaneity. He begins to define what
occurrences are due to chance and those that are due to spontaneity. He says that chance cannot be the cause of things that come to be due to necessity.
He concludes that chance and intelligent reflection are similar. He ends with the statement that things that come to pass by chance or spontaneity are
not caused by necessary or normal reasons, but they do come to pass for the sake of something. Aristotle begins part six by describing the relationship
between spontaneity and chance. He tells us that things that result from chance are from spontaneity, but those from spontaneity are not always due to

Growing Up In a Small Town
Living and growing up in a small town is better than doing so in a big city.
Everyone knows your name; there is a sense of community spirit and just going to visit your neighbor can be rewarding. On the flip side, city life

She would just smile and act like she didn't know it, and then gave us our reward anyway. Another time I remember a parent looking out for us was
when my brother nearly drowned in the local river. He was always tagging along with my friends and me even though he was still too young at six
to do most of the things that we did. When we would go swimming at the river I trusted him to stay safe in the shallows while we older kids braved
the deeper spots. It all happened so quickly that later I marveled at how close we came to losing him. Mr. Ramsey just happened to be on the river

It is pretty clear that Holden was badly hurt by the loss and disappointed by the grief that overcame him. He found himself talking out loud to Allie
in attempts to find comfort, he did it a lot when he was suicidal. Between Holden 's hypercritical views on others and his effort to push himself out

We have to live inside our heads a large part of our waking life. Granted, when we are working, playing, exercising, or socializing in any way––
relating to family, friends, co–workers, etc...we are taken outside of ourselves, out of our heads, and our own mind–chatter is less present. And these
activities are a great way to reduce our mind–chatter when we are feeling negative, and they can lead to a total turn–around too.
But when we are on our own we mostly live inside out heads. And often the inner life in there is not all pleasant. We spend a lot of time in anger,
anxiety, strife, worry, fear, negativity, arguments, sadness, brooding, drama, etc...
Instead, we could be planning, dreaming, thinking creative thoughts, having realizations, insights, and breakthroughs, having thoughts of gratitude,
enjoyment, fun. We could be experiencing the moment in awe, wonder, enthusiasm, excitement, and feeling waves of passion, ecstasy, and bliss. Yes,
these are all valid ways of being, these are all attainable inner states.

Although it was written in 2006, this song could also apply to society today. We are currently living in a digital world. Music and social media sites

Country music is a genre that some might absolutely love and some might absolutely hate. It is a style of music that developed in the southern and
western U.S. and often contains lyrics relating to the lives of people who live in the country. While there are a lot of different types of country music,

3a Physiological Barrier – I will have start with far as relating to my job in the army. It has been times I had migraines, tired and hunger when I was in
involved meetings. First, I didn't like going to them, most of the time we had get information or put information out in the meetings. Beginning of the
training meetings wasn't too bad, in the middle of it was the hard part .often I start thinking about the work you have got done before can go home and

certified to teach as an instructor in the army. I was nervous about speaking in front of because I was afraid they wouldn't understand me or able to

Saving the Family's Name in DesireeвЂ™s Baby by Kate Chopin
The short story "Desiree's Baby: by Kate Chopin is my favorite story so far in what we read in class. Why? Well because Chopin Shows how far a
man will go just to save his family's name and reputation. This interested me because I couldn't believe a man would go that far keep his
reputation and how Chopin address real life issues and shows how one emotion can be your down fall at the same time.. The man in Desiree's
baby who took his words and actions to far is named Armand Aubigny . Chopin made Armand make his decision based on assumptions, racism,
anger and male dominance. Chopin Shows that back then race was everything. It meant so much that people would consider you subhuman or
worthless if u had any in your blood line, it also ruined relationships and caused the feeling of disgrace. Armand took this serious he was the typical
stereotype. Armand was the master of the L'Abri plantation; he was a strict master who treated the slaves cruel. So much that, the narrator says,
"The negroes had forgotten how to be gay." So you can imagine the thought of him finding out his child was of color. When he found out all hell broke
loose. He wanted no parts of Desiree or the baby after finding out. He even said it was Desiree's fault because she has some Negro blood in her.
Desiree's reaction was priceless instead of fighting for her baby and herself; she just felt disgrace and couldn't believe she would have some Negro
blood in her. She even says it's a lie, gives her whole
