Explanatory And Dig Deep By Sheryl Sandberg
Explanatory Synthesis of "Lean In..." and "Dig Deep..." Since the beginning of the American
feminist movement in 1848 at the Seneca Falls Convention to the present, gender equality has been
heavily debated and discussed. The liberties being called for by feminists have changed over the
years, but their message has always remained the same; equality for all women and men. "Lean
In...", written by modern day feminist and COO at Facebook, is a new age telling of the difficulties
and inequalities women face in the current day corporate front office. The author, Sheryl Sandberg,
uses personal anecdotes and experiences to come up with her own versions of the definition of
feminism, the importance of a "life partner", and how women are to achieve ... Show more content

Sandberg brings up the importance of a woman choosing her "life partner", regardless of sexuality,
wisely. She says that when she started college that her parents pressured her more to find a good
husband than achieve all her academic goals. The importance of marriage and the pressure applied
by family and friends puts down women and discourages them from achieving their dreams. Hooks,
however, doesn't believe people give choosing a life partner as much weight as an important career
decision, although it is important for anyone in life. Hooks also sees this point in Sandburg's
argument as a way Sandberg is hiding the fact she is only talking to straight white women. Sandberg
has a lot of money, and makes a lot of money. She even states that her husband controls all her
assets. Hooks calls this into question and argues that this is one of the least feminist things a person
can to, believing that it would be feminist to look after her own finances and take care of herself.
Fear is the driving factor of a lot of our decisions that we make in life. Whether it is being afraid to
invest in a stock, ask someone on a date, or go for a promotion, everyone is afraid to do something
at some level. Sandberg's main point of the whole book is for women to lean into fears and believe
in their own aspirations to lead. Her whole point to the book is the importance of aspirations,
regardless of what they are.

Compare And Contrast The Archeologists By Gerard Donovan
In the "Archeologists" by Gerard Donovan there are two seemingly similar yet distant archeologist
named Emma and Robert. They have been going around a digging up looking for artifacts in Ireland
before they are covered by the modern civilization. However, Robert is the type of archeologist who
is by the book, wants to find the artifacts and make a bigger connection with them by writing. On
the other hand there is Emma, an archeologist who is not by the book and will go off record to find
and preserve the artifacts that she finds. During their diggings they find a young Irelander in the
ground and Emma does everything in her power to dig it up even though Robert wants to finish
digging another time when it is suitable for everyone. Emma suggests

Family Anthropology Research Paper
Life would be so different if our family was a family of archaeologists! For instance, we would not
have electronics, since there would probably be no internet out in the desert. I would not be able to
play the piano or violin, since both are hard to keep in the desert. Even though my brother and I
would not have homework, we would not have a strong education. Living in a tent instead of an air
conditioned house would mean it would be harder to keep cool in the hot sun. I would not have
many friends, since only archaeologists are allowed on the digs. Working all day would mean less
family bonding. Being out in the desert means it would be hard to cook the delicious food I am used
to eating. Even though I could find cool artifacts and travel ... Show more content on

Then, we would eat our bland biscuits, bread, chips, and beef jerky because spices and seasonings
are hard to come by in the desert. After we are done eating, we would change into our long–sleeve
shirts and pants so we do not get sunburned. Then, we would look for a good place to dig or
continue digging on the same place we did yesterday. At 12:00 AM we would stop digging, since it
gets too hot to dig. Instead, we would sort our finds and catalogue them so we would know what we
found later. After that we would rest for a bit, and then we would eat lunch. At 2:30 PM, we would
start digging again. Making sure everyone does their part is one of the important things about being
a family of archaeologists. At 4:00, we would stop digging and sort our finds, catalogue new finds
and radiocarbon date so we can find how old the fossils and artifacts we found are. At 5:00, my
brother and I would have "school" Then at 7:30, we eat, change, and go to sleep, We repeat the same
process every day. A typical day on the dig would need strong, hard–working people committed to
their job.
Everyone in my family would have an important job. I could identify and brush because I am good
at cleaning things and identifying things. My dad could radiocarbon date, catalogue, and dig since
he is intelligent, strong, and neat. My mom would specialize in cleaning and brushing because she
does all the cleaning in the house. My brother would be good at brushing and getting water, since he
likes cleaning and helping with tasks. Everyone in my family would have an important

Big Dig Research Paper
The Central Artery/Tunnel Project, also known as the Big Dig, is one of the most expensive,
technically challenging, and largest public projects in American history. The Big Dig was a super–
project that was created to reroute the "Central Artery of Interstate 93, the main roadway through the
core of the city, into the 1.5 mile Thomas P. O'Neill Jr. Tunnel." The construction of the Big Dig
"untangled the co–mingled" traffic in Boston, Massachusetts and resulted in a 62% decrease in
vehicle hours of travel and reduced the afternoon peak hour by a massive 85.6%.
The highway planning of the Big Dig started in 1982 with the actual construction starting in 1991.
The Big Dig was initially planned to be finalized in 1998 with the estimated total cost of 2.8 billion
(7.8 billion adjusted for inflation to today's dollar value) but due to cost overruns, design flaws,
criminal arrests and even one death the construction of the highway was delayed. After all the
delays, the Big Dig was finally completed in 2007 at a cost of 8.08 billion (20.5 billion in today's
dollar value). After the Big Dig was completed, it cost nearly 21 billion dollars, had taken nearly 20

Dinosaurs Case Study
Digging Dinosaurs
Level A:
You are swimming underwater in a lake and you see dinosaur feet in the water. You don't want to go
to the surface of the lake in case they are not friendly dinosaurs.
How many dinosaurs are standing in the lake? Explain how you know. Use words and mathematical
language to explain your solution..
Problem Restated: This basically states try to find all possible combinations and outcomes for this
type of situation.
Process: The very first thing I did was to find out that there weren't any dinosaurs with 1,3,5,6,7,8
feet. (Lincoln and John helped with that). Next, I figured that if there were only two–legged
dinosaurs it would be four of them. 2+2+2+2=8. There could also be four–legged dinosaurs. In this
case 4 x 2 = 8 found the number of dinosaurs. Last, there could be a combination of dinosaurs in the
lake. A four–legged and two two–legged beasts.
Math:
2 four–legged dinosaurs make up eight feet or 4 + 4= 8
4 two–legged dinosaurs make eight feet or 2+2+2+2=8
1 four–legged dinosaurs and 2 two–legged dinosaurs make 8 feet or 4+2+2=8
Solution: A possible four two–legged, and two four–legged, as well as one four–legged and two
two–legged. So 2,3,4 dinosaurs
Level B:
You want to go with your sister to the museum to see the dinosaur exhibit. The museum has three
different plans to pay for going to see the dinosaurs.
Museum Rate Plans
Plan A: Pay 3.00 per person to visit the museum
Plan B: Monthly membership is 8.00 for each person, but you can

Why Women Still Can T Have It All And Dig Deep: Beyond...
More modern women no longer subscribe to the idea that they should only aspire to be housewives.
This movement, which began in the 1940s, is hailed as the rebirth of feminism. Women entered the
workforce to replace their husbands who had been sent off to fight in World War II. As a result, their
work in factories and shipyards challenged the gender norms of that time period, and thus paved the
way for future generations to come ("The Women's Movement–Our History," 2005). Today, in lieu
of Rosie the Riveter, women and girls have many professional role models to look up to.
Nonetheless, it remains imperative that the structure of the workplace changes to accommodate a
more balanced gender ratio, but this is not always possible within the current patriarchal framework.
Gender equality in the workplace has not yet been achieved despite the successes of elite women.
However, as small progressions are being made, it is a recurring debate among feminists whether or
not the ambitious woman can "have it all." Sheryl Sandberg expounds on this idea in her book Lean
In, believing it possible if a woman has enough determination. Other esteemed women, such as
Anne–Marie Slaughter and feminist scholar bell hooks dissect her arguments in their respective
works "Why Women Still Can't Have It All" and "Dig Deep: Beyond Lean In," both coming to the
conclusion that women and men must first be liberated from the institution. Richard Dorment,
author of "Why Men Still Can't Have It All", bases his

A Brief Note On Dig Deeper Into California 's Drought
For my quest I choose to dig deeper into California's drought and learn more about where we
currently stand with it and the future that we shall face. I've been born and raised into a farming
family and have seen first hand all the great aspects that agriculture brings to our great state. This
was a perfect topic for me to choose because I was passionate about it from the very beginning all
the way till the end. I really enjoyed this quest and feel a lot more informed and educated on the
issues at hand. My research was very vital to helping me back up give credit to the statements and
facts that I found. Due to the topic I picked being a current situation it was very easy for me to find

For centuries people have sailed the rough, dangerous seas, risking their lives to reach this place we
call home. In the near future, people may not be seeking to migrate here, but rather us migrate out if
we continue on the path we currently are on. The rate at which we purchase unneeded expenditures
is about the same that we overuse our survival resources. I'm here to talk about the over use of one
particular resource that could end mankind and cause a global extinction. It's called water.
For decades, residents of California have lived expending resources as if they were just extra
pennies left over in their pockets. Thrown away and left forgotten about for centuries, without the
worry of a possible need for them. We've been living ostentatiously by building personal havens
such as golf courses, pools, huge lawns, and sports fields. Over the past few decades, this lifestyle
has transformed our state into a huge, luscious oasis. That time has changed, as California has now
entered a new crisis and it's time to face the fact that transformation is upon us, whether we like it or
not. Mega–Drought. It's the word no one likes to talk about. It makes people lose hope in the future,
and with California having the title of being the number one agriculture producing state in the
country, it is a tremendous threat. For those of you that don't know, some scientists have predicted

Personal Narrative: If We Were Archaeology
Life would be so different if my family was a family of archaeologists! If we were archaeologists...
well the Galioto family and digging in the hot sun from dawn to dusk could be potentially
disastrous! I would miss out going to McAuliffe Middle school and seeing all my wonderful friends
and teachers. I would have to give up my amazing room, extensive collection of books, comfy
feather bed, hot showers, and delectable meals my mom makes. If we were archaeologists I would
have to say goodbye to soccer and leave my dreams of being a marine biologist behind and start
digging! Instead of the picturesque life we lead now, we would dig, sort, clean, log, examine, and
catalogue our findings day in and day out.
A typical day on a dig would go something like this... we would start by waking up at the crack of
dawn. Honestly, I would look and feel like a zombie from The Walking Dead if I had to wake up
each day at 5:00am to start work. Budding teenagers need their rest! However, if we expect to get a

My mom is a very efficient, organized person by nature. Her job would be to record the exact
locations and conditions of artifacts uncovered during the dig, using either drawings or photographs.
I would clean and sort all the bones and artifacts we find because, I am a neat, detail, and
determined person. My dad would radiocarbon date all the artifacts we find because, has a scientific
mind. My little brother is only 9 years old and wouldn't be much a help with the complicated
analysis of the artifacts. However, he could be useful by helping dig at the excavation sites. Boys his
age are a bundle of energy, which we could put to good use. In the end, however, archaeology is not
the kind of life my family would enjoy. I have so many dreams and ambitions for my life, and I

Holes
I Read the book Holes, written by Louis Sachar. The book is about how Stanley Yelnats gets sent to
a camp for troubled teenagers and his experience there. Stanley is a teenage boy, hes was not a
trouble maker, he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The book takes place in the early
2000's. So Stanley was accused of stealing a pair of cleats. But what really had happened was this
boy named hector stole the shoes and threw them after her got scared and they then fell on Stanley
and they cops found Stanley with the cleats.
So Stanley had the choice of going to jail or going to camp green lake, he chose camp green lake.
Camp green lake is a place where troubled kids go and dig holes every day. So for the first few days
he digs his hole a day, its not that easy. Later on that week Stanley meets this boy named "Zero", the
people in the camp called him zero because he wouldn't talk at all to them. Stanley and zero become
good friends over the time. Stanley then receives a letter from his parents and he think zero is
reading it but zero can't read, zero wanted to be taught to read. At first Stanley said no but zero said
he would help him dig part of his hole everyday so he wouldn't be so tired to tutor him. ... Show

then they climbed the mountain and they got really lucky because on top of that mountain were
onions and water. Zero and Stanley stay there for a few nights. Zero tells Stanley something really
important, which was that zero was the one who stole the shoes and threw them which means zero
was hector the one who got Stanley in that

The Negro Digs Up His Past
Why Dig Up the Past? This article "The Negro Digs Up His Past'' by Arthur schomburg on 1925,
elaborates more on the struggles of slavery as well as how history tend to be in great need of
restoration through mindfully exploring on the past. The article, however started with an interesting
sentence which caught my attention, especially when the writer says ''The American Negro must
remark his past in order to make his future'' (670). This statement according the writer, explains how
slavery took away the great deal freedom from people of African descendant, through emancipation
and also increase in diversity. The writer (Arthur Schomburg) however, asserts that "the negro has
been throughout the centuries of controversy an active collaborator, and often a pioneer, in the
struggle for his own freedom and advancement" (670). In other words, this tend to take a great vast
amount of time for the society to understand the great importance of intelligent people of African
descendant, who tend to be capable of, just as any other ethics group, alternatively, for many
centuries this has not be recognized because of the fact that the continuation of hatred and
segregation flourished continually not until current decades, thereby, causing a standstill to the the
advancement of the Africans. It is observed that the historical happenings have a great negativity on
the face of the society, which is yet to be fixed. And so,

History: Tunnels and Engineers
HISTORY
With more than three million miles of highways and nearly a hundred and fifty thousand miles of
railways covering American soil, transportation above ground has become increasingly congested.
Tunnels provide some of the last available space for cars and trains, water and sewage, and even
power lines. Today, it's safe to bore through mountains and burrow beneath oceans; however it was
not always this easy. In fact, it took engineers thousands of years to perfect the art of digging
tunnels. Before cars and trains, tunnels carried only water. Roman engineers created the most
extensive network of tunnels in the ancient world. They built sloping structures, called aqueducts, to
carry water from mountain springs to cities and villages. They carved underground chambers and
built elegant arch structures not only to carry fresh water into the city, but to carry wastewater out.
By the 17th century, tunnels were being constructed for canals. Without roads or railways to
transport raw materials from the country to the city, these watery highways became the best way to
haul freight over great distances. Just like railways and roadways today, canals usually ran above
ground, but many required tunnels to pass efficiently through an obstacle, such as a mountain. Canal
construction inspired some of the world's earliest tunnels. With the introduction of trains and cars
came a tremendous expansion in tunnel construction. During the 19th and 20th centuries, as the

Restoring the History of African Americans in The Negro...
Why Dig up the Past?
The Negro Digs Up His Past by Arthur Schomburg is an article he wrote in 1925, in which he
complaint that somehow through the years African American history has been questioned and
denied as many claim that Africans have no history at all. He uses this paper to illustrate the
importance of recording the collective accomplishments of African Americans and that we must at
all costs save any evidence, so that things like this do not happen again in the future. He wants to
make sure to leave no place for doubts that African Americans have a history and is irrefutable in
the eyes of skeptics and the world. According to Schomburg, "Though it is orthodox to think of
America as the one country where it is unnecessary to have a past, what is luxury for the nation as a
whole becomes a prime social necessity for the Negro(Schomburg 231)." He emphasizes that blacks
have to dig deep into their own history in order to hold their own against the current oppression. He
wants to set the record straight and restore the history that was omitted, the history that was denied
to them, a history that has somehow been stolen from them forever. What can the past teach us?
This is a very widespread and very used question, but if we think carefully of this question that
seems so simple and innocent it has so many meanings and importance to mankind, the present and
what may be the future. The past can teach us many things, where we come from, who we are, who

Boston Big Dig
Boston's Big Dig was a massive road infrastructure project planned to improve the flow of traffic,
alleviating chronic congestion across Boston and the surrounding commuter areas, and to replace
the outdated elevated Central Artery road that effectively split the city in half. The plan was to
replace the Existing Central Artery, a crumbling elevated six–lane highway, with an extended
underground highway, and a 14–lane two bridge crossing that would Extend Massachusetts
Interstate 90 from its former end, south of downtown Boston, through a tunnel under South Boston

whereas the video, although speaking extensively on the many challenges faced, still paint the
project as an overall success. I'm not sure if was because I watched the film, with all the visuals,
before reading the text, nevertheless, I found myself seeing the project more optimistically even
with the new learned facts from the text. Our text raised the question of whether the original cost
estimates given were in good faith or "turned" to meet political realities, and I believe the answer to
be the latter. It is extremely hard to comprehend how anyone, much less the government, believed a
project of this magnitude and enormous would come close to 2 billion and take just a couple years
to complete. I mean even I thought it would take at least a decade to complete. Project Managers
have been known to deliberately understate the cost involved to secure a bid however, this seems
overly extreme besides I think officials tried to keep the factual cost estimates under wraps for the
sake of this very much needed new transportation system. Nonetheless, costs increased across all
contracts throughout the project's life cycle despite enormous efforts to transfer, mitigate, or avoid

Meaning Behind Dig
With virtually any kind of text, critical thinking is required to unveil the true meaning and purpose
behind an artist's work. Whether that text is a poem, novel or film, we as scholars must find
evidence to support our claims of the current text. The text I shall be analyzing is the short film Dig,
written and directed by Toby Halbrooks. The main story line of this film is of a young girl watching
her father dig an unprecedented hole in their own backyard. To the untrained mind, he seems to just
be digging for no apparent reason. However, that is not the case at all. The father digging the hole is
a metaphor for him attempting to escape his problems shown through the daughter's eyes. The
evidence supplied throughout the film all point to how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The beginning of the scene shows her reaching into the refrigerator to gather milk for her cereal. As
she sits down, we are able to see that she is wearing loose, old looking clothing. In addition to her
clothing, her hair is much untamed. Both her hair and clothing show that this family is in the lower–
middle class. As the daughter was eating her cereal, her mother came into the scene briefly. Taking a
closer look out the window, the daughter sees her father begin to dig a hole in the back yard.
Flocking to the scene, she watches him for a bit and eventually asks her father, "What are you
doing?" Immediately after this question was raised, the father stared at his daughter for a few
seconds then silently proceeded to dig. The evidence of the lower–middle class again shows how the
father may simply be trying to avoid his problems and duties as a father for one afternoon. In
addition to the evidence of belonging to the lower–middle class, the response to his daughter's
question may point to how he wants to keep his reasoning to himself. If he were to exclaim that he
is digging for no purpose rather than to escape his troubles, he would immediately be questioned by

just to grab a better position from what you had before, like having the confidence to grab the most

Sandberg's quote, women now have the chance to grab more of a better position at work to make

quote, Sandberg quoted "Women need to shift from thinking "I'm not ready to do that" to thinking "I

and caused many tragedies. In this play King Hamlet was murdered by his brother Claudius who
then became king. The play's plot is about how Hamlet, the son of the deceased king, takes revenge
on his uncle Claudius. Hamlet's appetite for vengeance impacted a lot of people in his life and even
people in different countries. When revenge overcomes you it impacts the lives of many.
Prince Hamlet, the son of King Hamlet and Queen Gertrude had a break down when his father was
murdered by his Uncle Claudius. No one knew about this except for the royal advisor, Polonius.

He first suspected that it was Claudius but then it was proven that it was Hamlet that was the actual
killer. He made a plan with Claudius to take revenge on Hamlet and kill him during a fencing match.
Laertes tells Hamlet "what you have done to my father and sister should drive me to revenge" (5.2.
230–235). This act of revenge got Laertes killed at the same time as Hamlet by getting stabbed with
the poisoned foil. Hamlet's mother Gertrude drank the poisoned wine by accident, and Hamlet
finally got revenge on Claudius by stabbing him and making him drink the poisoned wine.
Additionally, Hamlet's Uncle Claudius, who married his mother queen Gertrude only two months
after king Hamlet died was the new king of Denmark after he murdered his own brother for
rulership over Denmark. " The real snake that stung your father is now wearing his crown" stated
the ghost of the deceased king.(1.5. 230–235) Since then Hamlet's mind was set on taking revenge
on Claudius to kill him. Claudius's action caused him to die at the hands of Hamlet for

Arturo Schomburg's The Negro Digs Up His Past
In "The Negro Digs Up His Past", Arturo Schomburg attempted to take up the deep study of the
African Americans' history to display their past more closely and respond the statements that they
have no past. He realized the necessity for the present generation to repair the history that was
damaged by the slavery. Schomburg noted that "there is the definite desire and determination to
have a history, well–documented, widely known......as a stimulating and inspiring tradition for the
coming generation" (670). I think what Schomburg tended to do was to introduce the other side of
the black people's history––the splendid past and remarkable achievements, and reminded people to
view their past objectively rather than focusing on the enslaved part. I totally agree with what
Schomburg said, because every nation or race has its unique history and deserves to be treated
fairly. From the reading material, I can see that the black people have lots of achievements they can
proud of. What they should do currently is to repair their history and enable people to know a more
complete one.
In the Ted video, Bryan Stevenson mainly talked about the injustice of the American justice system,
especially the unfair treatment towards the black people. He said that "We have a system of justice
in this country that treats you much better if you're rich and guilty than if you're poor and innocent".
One astonishing fact he talked about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of his life raising awareness of the great contributions that African Americans have made to society.
What he hoped was that more and more people would know their glorious history and

long–term problem in a significantly widespread platform so that it could acquire more public

Family Archaeologists
If our family was a family of archaeologists, we wouldn't survive the first day! Our family being
archaeologists is like a living oxymoron, and well, if we were a family of archaeologists things
would flow pretty differently. First off I wouldn't get to experience sports and go to a wonderful
school like McAuliffe. I couldn't imagine not being able to go outside and throw a football around
with my dad, and not being able to go to Taekwondo classes, no way. Plus I wouldn't be able to go
to school and hang out with my friends every day. Also, all I could fish for are lizards and snakes
and the only pets I would have is anything I caught (that is if I could catch anything). Lastly we
would get like an hour and a half of family time a day including in the mornings! Life would
certainly be different if our family was a family of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Personally I would have to be the person who catalogs everything at the end of the day. I have this
OCD problem where if things aren't organized or aren't in groups of 5 or 10 then I have a serious
problem with it. Like the number 28 not a big fan. Also if things aren't perfectly symmetrical then I
have the same problem. My brother has this problem where he has a desperate need to completely
destroy something everyday so he could...... cook, because he makes decent food. My mom has a
very steady hand so she could probably brush the artifacts. My dad would definitely examine things
because if he finds something unidentified around the house he will not rest until he finds out what
it is. Also we would all be digging for long and sweaty hours, day after day for the rest of our lives.
Not the job for me cause there's no WIFI or AC and you have to sleep in tents every night so yeah,
not happening. Even if life on the digs would be hard it would still be fun.... alright maybe not it
would just be too hard to be a family or archaeologists, I also really like

Central Artery: The Big Dig
The Central Artery/ Tunnel Project (known as The Big Dig), is recognized as the largest, most
complex, and technologically challenging highway projects in the history of the United States. The
goal was to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improved mobility in Boston, one of the most
congested cities in the United States. Helping improve the environmental emissions was also an
added bonus in this project. The project centralized around a congested elevated 6 lane highway
called the Central Artery that ran through downtown Boston. The Central Artery was only designed
to carry about 75,000 vehicles a day, however, in the 1990s; it was the route for about 200,000
vehicles each day, making it one of the most congested highways in the United States. The original
plan of for this project consisted of 2 major parts. Part 1 was replacing the six lane elevated highway
with an eight to ten lane underground expressway beneath the existing road, and a 14 lane, two
bridge crossing of the Charles River at the northern end. After the underground highway was opened
to traffic, the elevated highway was to be demolished. The newly ... Show more content on

time to complete the project correctly the first time around. There also seemed to be a lack of
teamwork throughout the project. I would have had a set plan in place throughout the entire project
life cycle. The main problem I feel like contributed to the failure of the project is the lack of quality.
Design specs should have been standard across the project regardless of what contractor was doing
the work. The time and money spent redoing portions of the project was a major setback.
Continuous improvement is also a key essential to any project. Last being ethical and honest about

The Negro Digs Up His Past
In today's society, many have come to believe what they have been instructed over the years,
whether it is fiction of facts. Living in a world, where only certain race can be seen as superior to
others. Schomburg was a pioneer beyond his times. In the article "The Negro Digs up His Past". The
beginning of this essay revealed a powerful statement, "The American Negro must remake his past
in order to make his future" (Arthur Schomburg). It is very clear, Schomburg realized the
importance of being knowledgeable on your true history. "History must restore what slavery took
away, for it is the social damage of slavery that the present generations must repair and offset".
Therefore, I acquiesce with such statement, it is up to the present generation to fight, and to aspire
on restoring what was taken away. As we acquired more intelligence, today's generation must
continue on indoctrinating one another on our true history. However, let's not forget, slavery was not
the onset of the Negro history; when in fact, slavery interrupted the Negro history. Meanwhile, long
ago, before slavery, Africans ruled the world, built nations, mastering in architectural ideas,
philosophies, etc. Nonetheless, it is crucial for the Negro to dig up his past, for from it; today's
Africans shall conceive their true potential, and their ancestor's greatest achievements. Just as
Schomburg found his motivation after being told "Negroes has no history. On the other hand, he
then stated "The Negro thinking

Analysis Of Sandberg 's ' Lean On ' Dig Deep '
Sandberg's "Lean In" vs. Hook's "Dig Deep" are two articles that are similar, but they have
differences. Sandberg's main point is that women are over looked for executive job positions, and
there is extreme sexism in play, while most job fields are ran by misogynists. She also feels as
though women are looked at as second class citizens, and are only worth to either stay at home and
cook and clean. She makes a great point by giving a personal example, when she stated that her

Personally, I know several women that has a high moral, and are working for leader positions in
their field. There are more females that are nurses than males in America. Statistically, that makes a
great outlook on how well women are doing in some areas. Sandberg also makes it known that
"gender stereotypes were reinforced throughout her life and they became self–fulfilling prophesies".
I agree with Sandberg fully because there are many people will say "Women cannot drive" or
"Women are only good at being servants, which includes cooking, cleaning, and other daily
household chores". While that is not true at all, women are grouped by a statistic. Simply because
women are often skilled at cooking and cleaning, does not mean that is their goal or what they
aspire to become. There are a plethora of women who will not cook, clean, or serve men, period.
There has been women that arose to great heights. They had to beat the odds, ignore statistics, and in
some cases fight their oppressors. I disagree that women should be looked upon as second class
citizens, I have known the women that I personally meet to be very wise and educated. Then there is
this ancient stereotype that a woman could not make a reasonable decision, without their feelings
altering their decision. That is another thing some men truly believe, in which I feel is a very
ignorant one. Not every man will make a decision based upon the business aspect of it, sometimes a

Revenge First Dig 2 Graves Analysis
The quote "When setting forth on a mission of revenge first dig 2 graves," simply brings on the idea
that revenge is never the answer. In general I think what is meant here is that when you're planning
revenge or some form of getting back at someone, you'll be doing damage to you and the person.
What I personally think is that getting revenge will only set you behind, it will slow you down from
accomplishing other things in life. In certain situations it's better to forgive and forget, even if
forgiveness wasn't the first thing on your mind to begin with. Anger is only something temporary
and you shouldn't let it control you in the heat of the moment. Understanding that anger can be the
cause of many things, anger is the reason we have many

Dogs dig in the earth for many reasons, and while it is often a natural and instinctual behavior many
homeowners would prefer that their yard were not covered with doggy foxholes. Dog owners who

the first step in stopping, or at least controlling, this undesirable behavior. The summer heat may

Boston Big Dig: Insights into Improved Project Management
When any organization undertakes a large–scale project, the first and most important component to
ensure that the process runs smoothly and effectively is effective project management. Project
management not only sets the tone for the overall project, but creates the plan and facilitates
effective implementation. From the first meeting to plan the project to the last report written about
the experience, project management is integral to project success.
The overall goal of a project manager is to oversee a project from idea to completion. Within that
scope, many roles and responsibilities arise that influence the project and how effectively it is
completed, or not. The role of the project manager does not mean that the employees and other
participants are not important. However, the management approach implemented by the project
manager is key to the effectiveness of the project. The importance of an effective project
management model can be illustrated through the lessons learned in Boston's "Big Dig" project.
BOSTON'S BIG DIG PROJECT
The idea behind Boston's Big Dig project was founded in the desire for the city of Boston "to
replace the elevated I–93 expressway through downtown Boston with a tunnel" (Poole and Samuel
2). The six–lane elevated expressway would be replaced with an eight–lane system that would be
primarily underground (Poole and Samuel).

The Warden Reflection
The Warden
She's mean, she's scary, she makes you dig holes–Yes, you've got it, it's the dreadful, direful,
fearsome...Warden. Based on what I have read so far, I believe the Warden is a selfish, scary, and
rude person. In addition to that, she is definitely impatient, strict and bossy. Firstly, I believe the
Warden is a selfish person, because on page 3 of chapter 1, the author states that, "The campers are
forbidden to lie in the hammock. It belongs to the Warden. The Warden owns the shade." The
Warden won't share the hammock to any of the campers, even if they are dehydrated or near death.
Isn't that just egoistical? Besides, in chapter 20, page 89, the Warden's cabin is described as a very
sybaritic place. It has air–conditioner, a television, and plenty of furniture that probably costs a lot.
But then at Group D, all they have is a wreck room, and it is trash (And a wreck, literally.)compared
to the Warden's cabin. Besides, the boys are working for the Warden, finding something for the
Warden, getting up everyday at the crack of dawn to dig holes. I don't think that's a dream come true
for them. And what does the Warden do? She sits in her fancy cabin, sipping sodas and watching
television, not giving any thanks to the boys.
The Warden is also quite the scary person. It is told that the Warden uses snake venom as nail polish.

having the boys to dig holes all day long, and when X–Ray "finds" the gold tube, the Warden orders

when they can't find anything, she orders them to dig faster and faster, though not finding any

The Negro Digs Up His Past Essay
I analyzed the ideological connection between Arthur Schomburg's essay, "The Negro Digs up His
Past" and an excerpt from W.E.B. Du Bois's The Souls of Black Folk. Both essays depict the
struggles African Americans faced, but also attempt to inspire African Americans to see beyond
their struggles and establish their identities in America. Both essays begin by stating the issues that
African Americans are facing at that time. Du Bois reflects on the way people viewed African
Americans as problems and how that affected one's own self–awareness, regardless of what they
previously thought. Constantly feeling like a problem and constantly being reminded of it elicits a
lack of self–worth. Du Bois says, "That sky was bluest when I could beat my mates at examination–
time, or beat them at a foot–race, or even beat their stingy heads. Alas, with the years all this fine
contempt began to fade; for the worlds I longed for, and all their dazzling ... Show more content on

Both come together to fulfill goals set in "Defining Black Identity in 21st Century America" by
Ewauare Osayande. The first two motivate and inspire African Americans to be proud of
themselves, how far they have come, and the effort they have taken into pioneering society. The
main objective Osayande wants to convey is to establish an identity while resisting dehumanization
and power against them (Osayande 6). Du Bois's essay describes the feeling of a double–
consciousness (Du Bois 11)." This helps establish the unique identity that Osayande wanted to
accomplish. One can mix together the African culture with the American culture and create
something unique. Schomburg's idea of revisiting history and what ancestors experienced will also
help accomplish that goal. His essay discusses the immensely–appreciated initiative taken in the
past that serves as a prideful accomplishment to help African Americans realize their potential

Character Analysis: The Hero's Journey
Nearly every story, whether fiction or nonfiction, for kids or for adults, science fiction or romance,
follows the same journey, the hero's journey. The hero's journey, developed by Joseph Campbell,
describes the journey of a hero from their ordinary, to a special world, and back to the ordinary
world that is now different in some way. The journey contains specific events such as a call to
adventure, a refusal of a call, and a crossing of the first threshold, as well as specific archetypes
such as a herald, a mentor, and a shadow. This concept shows the common pattern present in stories
in the myths of cultures around the world, in the lives of people around the world, and in the
literature of all levels of complexity. Mike Mulligan and his ... Show more content on

Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel shows nearly all of these archetypes. Many of the archetypes
are obvious throughout the text such as Mike as the hero, Henry as the shadow, and the selectmen as
the threshold guardian. Other archetypes can appear multiple times. In the book, Mike is shown to
have two mentors. The first appears during the typical appearance of a mentor. A newspaper gives
him needed information and sets him on the path to enter the special world. While in the special
world, Mike finds a second mentor. The second mentor, a little boy, helps him during his tests,
assists him in his road back to the ordinary world, and remains with him in the ordinary world. Both
of Mike's mentors fit the archetype. One archetype that appears scarcely in the book is a shape–
shifter. A shape–shifter is a character that does not remain the same throughout the journey and can
disrupt the adventure. The shape–shifter in this story is the public. The public is shown to be fickle
and easily agrees with whatever people say. When the little boy tells them to watch they do, and
when Henry questions how Mike is going to get out, the public begins questioning him as well. The
public cannot be tied onto one side and, therefore, represent the shape–shifter in the hero's journey.

Revenge Digs Graves Essay
Revenge Digs Graves
"The man who seeks revenge digs two graves." Ken Kesey wrote this quote in his book Sometimes
a Great Notion. This quote embodies the result of Laertes revenge. Laertes was the son of Polonius,
who died by Hamlets hand. He was told this by Claudius and started his quest. By setting out to kill
Hamlet, he sealed his own fate. Revenge is quite literally a killer, however, it affects both parties of
revenge. Revenge is strenuous, it is all consuming. In the case of Laertes, he was so consumed by
his hatred that he did not realise he was being used by Claudius. Only in proximity and death did he
snap out of his rage. Laertes's form of justice is in a rage–filled death for Hamlet, he completes his
quest but dies, his last moments give him time to reflect and expose claudius; these events impact
the ending of the play and the outcome of the characters.
After Laertes was told that Polonius was killed, he was consumed with anger, rage and sadness. His
father has died his sister is now mentally unstable and he is having trouble coping. He decides he

succeeded in wounding Hamlet with the poisoned sword, but was also hit with the poisoned blade

outcome of the whole play and allowed Hamlet to take his revenge on his father and mother. Justice
is in many different forms, not all of them are safe and reliable. Laertes dug his own grave while
trying to kill Hamlet. And it was ultimately his downfall. However, he able to change the outcome,
and that may be his biggest triumph. Slowing down and assessing the situation would have been the
smartest way to figure out just what happened to Hamlet, Ophelia, Claudius, and Polonius. He

Analysis Of Dig If You Will The Picture By Crystal Wilkinson
Writer, Crystal Wilkinson, in her article, "Dig If You Will The Picture," recounts her younger painful

specifically Prince's, had the ability to pull her through all the terrible things she encountered in life
and helped her gain back the control that was stolen from her. She conveys her argument by using a
descriptive style that shows in her word choice and tone, imagery, and structure of the article.

She wants the audience to feel as innocent as she did in the beginning, as shameful and disgusted in
the middle, and as nostalgic in the end of her article. In the beginning, she creates the image of what
she looks like, "... [b]ell bottom jeans and blue peasant blouses and striped knit shirts that clung to
my breasts, " (Wilkinson). By doing so, readers can vividly imagine what she looks like and feel
more attached and involved in the story she is creating. In the middle she takes us through all the
times she was sexually abused and by using imagery, she makes the reader feel as beaten down and
scared as she was. For example, she creates an image of the church where her first sexual assault
occurred, "At the entrance to the church was a small vestibule with two white doors. Behind the
doors was a dangling rope attached to the church bell," (Wilkinson). She goes on to build the tension
with her words like "groped," "accident," "hiding," and "secret," (Wilkinson). These make the reader
more and more uncomfortable as she describes her experiences, which was the point, to make the
reader feel some semblance of what she did. In the end, she describes her older and present self,
looking through old pictures: " Sometimes in old photographs, I see glimpses of that young woman.

The Negro Digs Up His Past By Arthur Schomburg
The article "The Negro Digs Up His Past'' by Arthur schomburg on 1925, elaborates more on the
struggles of slavery as well as how history tend to be in great need of restoration through mindfully
exploring on the past. The article, however started with an interesting sentence which caught my
attention, especially when the writer says ''The American Negro must remark his past in order to
make his future'' (670). This statement according the writer, explains how slavery took away the
great deal freedom from people of African descendant, through emancipation and also increase in
diversity. The writer (Arthur Schomburg) however, asserts that "the negro has been throughout the
centuries of controversy an active collaborator, and often a pioneer, in the struggle for his own

Explanatory And Dig Deep By Sheryl Sandberg

  • 1. Explanatory And Dig Deep By Sheryl Sandberg Explanatory Synthesis of "Lean In..." and "Dig Deep..." Since the beginning of the American feminist movement in 1848 at the Seneca Falls Convention to the present, gender equality has been heavily debated and discussed. The liberties being called for by feminists have changed over the years, but their message has always remained the same; equality for all women and men. "Lean In...", written by modern day feminist and COO at Facebook, is a new age telling of the difficulties and inequalities women face in the current day corporate front office. The author, Sheryl Sandberg, uses personal anecdotes and experiences to come up with her own versions of the definition of feminism, the importance of a "life partner", and how women are to achieve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sandberg brings up the importance of a woman choosing her "life partner", regardless of sexuality, wisely. She says that when she started college that her parents pressured her more to find a good husband than achieve all her academic goals. The importance of marriage and the pressure applied by family and friends puts down women and discourages them from achieving their dreams. Hooks, however, doesn't believe people give choosing a life partner as much weight as an important career decision, although it is important for anyone in life. Hooks also sees this point in Sandburg's argument as a way Sandberg is hiding the fact she is only talking to straight white women. Sandberg has a lot of money, and makes a lot of money. She even states that her husband controls all her assets. Hooks calls this into question and argues that this is one of the least feminist things a person can to, believing that it would be feminist to look after her own finances and take care of herself. Fear is the driving factor of a lot of our decisions that we make in life. Whether it is being afraid to invest in a stock, ask someone on a date, or go for a promotion, everyone is afraid to do something at some level. Sandberg's main point of the whole book is for women to lean into fears and believe in their own aspirations to lead. Her whole point to the book is the importance of aspirations, regardless of what they are. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Compare And Contrast The Archeologists By Gerard Donovan In the "Archeologists" by Gerard Donovan there are two seemingly similar yet distant archeologist named Emma and Robert. They have been going around a digging up looking for artifacts in Ireland before they are covered by the modern civilization. However, Robert is the type of archeologist who is by the book, wants to find the artifacts and make a bigger connection with them by writing. On the other hand there is Emma, an archeologist who is not by the book and will go off record to find and preserve the artifacts that she finds. During their diggings they find a young Irelander in the ground and Emma does everything in her power to dig it up even though Robert wants to finish digging another time when it is suitable for everyone. Emma suggests ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, a junior Hailey Lawson kill put herself on serve, and three–straight kills from senior Desiree Frey continued the match. Frey ended the match with her third double–double of the season, recording 19 kills and adding 14 digs, going over 800 digs for her career. • 4. Family Anthropology Research Paper Life would be so different if our family was a family of archaeologists! For instance, we would not have electronics, since there would probably be no internet out in the desert. I would not be able to play the piano or violin, since both are hard to keep in the desert. Even though my brother and I would not have homework, we would not have a strong education. Living in a tent instead of an air conditioned house would mean it would be harder to keep cool in the hot sun. I would not have many friends, since only archaeologists are allowed on the digs. Working all day would mean less family bonding. Being out in the desert means it would be hard to cook the delicious food I am used to eating. Even though I could find cool artifacts and travel ... After we are done eating, we would change into our long–sleeve shirts and pants so we do not get sunburned. Then, we would look for a good place to dig or continue digging on the same place we did yesterday. At 12:00 AM we would stop digging, since it gets too hot to dig. Instead, we would sort our finds and catalogue them so we would know what we found later. After that we would rest for a bit, and then we would eat lunch. At 2:30 PM, we would start digging again. Making sure everyone does their part is one of the important things about being a family of archaeologists. At 4:00, we would stop digging and sort our finds, catalogue new finds and radiocarbon date so we can find how old the fossils and artifacts we found are. At 5:00, my brother and I would have "school" Then at 7:30, we eat, change, and go to sleep, We repeat the same process every day. A typical day on the dig would need strong, hard–working people committed to their job. Everyone in my family would have an important job. I could identify and brush because I am good at cleaning things and identifying things. My dad could radiocarbon date, catalogue, and dig since he is intelligent, strong, and neat. • 5. Big Dig Research Paper The Central Artery/Tunnel Project, also known as the Big Dig, is one of the most expensive, technically challenging, and largest public projects in American history. The Big Dig was a super– project that was created to reroute the "Central Artery of Interstate 93, the main roadway through the core of the city, into the 1.5 mile Thomas P. O'Neill Jr. Tunnel." The construction of the Big Dig "untangled the co–mingled" traffic in Boston, Massachusetts and resulted in a 62% decrease in vehicle hours of travel and reduced the afternoon peak hour by a massive 85.6%. The highway planning of the Big Dig started in 1982 with the actual construction starting in 1991. The Big Dig was initially planned to be finalized in 1998 with the estimated total cost of 2.8 billion (7.8 billion adjusted for inflation to today's dollar value) but due to cost overruns, design flaws, criminal arrests and even one death the construction of the highway was delayed. After all the delays, the Big Dig was finally completed in 2007 at a cost of 8.08 billion (20.5 billion in today's dollar value). Use words and mathematical language to explain your solution.. Problem Restated: This basically states try to find all possible combinations and outcomes for this type of situation. Process: The very first thing I did was to find out that there weren't any dinosaurs with 1,3,5,6,7,8 feet. (Lincoln and John helped with that). Next, I figured that if there were only two–legged dinosaurs it would be four of them. 2+2+2+2=8. There could also be four–legged dinosaurs. In this case 4 x 2 = 8 found the number of dinosaurs. Last, there could be a combination of dinosaurs in the lake. A four–legged and two two–legged beasts. Math: 2 four–legged dinosaurs make up eight feet or 4 + 4= 8 4 two–legged dinosaurs make eight feet or 2+2+2+2=8 1 four–legged dinosaurs and 2 two–legged dinosaurs make 8 feet or 4+2+2=8 Solution: A possible four two–legged, and two four–legged, as well as one four–legged and two two–legged. • 8. Why Women Still Can T Have It All And Dig Deep: Beyond... More modern women no longer subscribe to the idea that they should only aspire to be housewives. This movement, which began in the 1940s, is hailed as the rebirth of feminism. Women entered the workforce to replace their husbands who had been sent off to fight in World War II. As a result, their work in factories and shipyards challenged the gender norms of that time period, and thus paved the way for future generations to come ("The Women's Movement–Our History," 2005). Today, in lieu of Rosie the Riveter, women and girls have many professional role models to look up to. Nonetheless, it remains imperative that the structure of the workplace changes to accommodate a more balanced gender ratio, but this is not always possible within the current patriarchal framework. Gender equality in the workplace has not yet been achieved despite the successes of elite women. However, as small progressions are being made, it is a recurring debate among feminists whether or not the ambitious woman can "have it all." Sheryl Sandberg expounds on this idea in her book Lean In, believing it possible if a woman has enough determination. Other esteemed women, such as Anne–Marie Slaughter and feminist scholar bell hooks dissect her arguments in their respective works "Why Women Still Can't Have It All" and "Dig Deep: Beyond Lean In," both coming to the conclusion that women and men must first be liberated from the institution. A Brief Note On Dig Deeper Into California 's Drought For my quest I choose to dig deeper into California's drought and learn more about where we currently stand with it and the future that we shall face. I've been born and raised into a farming family and have seen first hand all the great aspects that agriculture brings to our great state. This was a perfect topic for me to choose because I was passionate about it from the very beginning all the way till the end. I really enjoyed this quest and feel a lot more informed and educated on the issues at hand. My research was very vital to helping me back up give credit to the statements and facts that I found. For centuries people have sailed the rough, dangerous seas, risking their lives to reach this place we call home. In the near future, people may not be seeking to migrate here, but rather us migrate out if we continue on the path we currently are on. The rate at which we purchase unneeded expenditures is about the same that we overuse our survival resources. I'm here to talk about the over use of one particular resource that could end mankind and cause a global extinction. It's called water. For decades, residents of California have lived expending resources as if they were just extra pennies left over in their pockets. Thrown away and left forgotten about for centuries, without the worry of a possible need for them. We've been living ostentatiously by building personal havens such as golf courses, pools, huge lawns, and sports fields. Over the past few decades, this lifestyle has transformed our state into a huge, luscious oasis. That time has changed, as California has now entered a new crisis and it's time to face the fact that transformation is upon us, whether we like it or not. Mega–Drought. It's the word no one likes to talk about. It makes people lose hope in the future, and with California having the title of being the number one agriculture producing state in the country, it is a tremendous threat. If we were archaeologists... well the Galioto family and digging in the hot sun from dawn to dusk could be potentially disastrous! I would miss out going to McAuliffe Middle school and seeing all my wonderful friends and teachers. I would have to give up my amazing room, extensive collection of books, comfy feather bed, hot showers, and delectable meals my mom makes. If we were archaeologists I would have to say goodbye to soccer and leave my dreams of being a marine biologist behind and start digging! Instead of the picturesque life we lead now, we would dig, sort, clean, log, examine, and catalogue our findings day in and day out. A typical day on a dig would go something like this... we would start by waking up at the crack of dawn. Honestly, I would look and feel like a zombie from The Walking Dead if I had to wake up each day at 5:00am to start work. Budding teenagers need their rest! This article "The Negro Digs Up His Past'' by Arthur schomburg on 1925, elaborates more on the struggles of slavery as well as how history tend to be in great need of restoration through mindfully exploring on the past. The article, however started with an interesting sentence which caught my attention, especially when the writer says ''The American Negro must remark his past in order to make his future'' (670). This statement according the writer, explains how slavery took away the great deal freedom from people of African descendant, through emancipation and also increase in diversity. The writer (Arthur Schomburg) however, asserts that "the negro has been throughout the centuries of controversy an active collaborator, and often a pioneer, in the struggle for his own freedom and advancement" (670). In other words, this tend to take a great vast amount of time for the society to understand the great importance of intelligent people of African descendant, who tend to be capable of, just as any other ethics group, alternatively, for many centuries this has not be recognized because of the fact that the continuation of hatred and segregation flourished continually not until current decades, thereby, causing a standstill to the the advancement of the Africans. • 13. History: Tunnels and Engineers HISTORY With more than three million miles of highways and nearly a hundred and fifty thousand miles of railways covering American soil, transportation above ground has become increasingly congested. Tunnels provide some of the last available space for cars and trains, water and sewage, and even power lines. Today, it's safe to bore through mountains and burrow beneath oceans; however it was not always this easy. In fact, it took engineers thousands of years to perfect the art of digging tunnels. Before cars and trains, tunnels carried only water. Roman engineers created the most extensive network of tunnels in the ancient world. They built sloping structures, called aqueducts, to carry water from mountain springs to cities and villages. They carved underground chambers and built elegant arch structures not only to carry fresh water into the city, but to carry wastewater out. By the 17th century, tunnels were being constructed for canals. Without roads or railways to transport raw materials from the country to the city, these watery highways became the best way to haul freight over great distances. Just like railways and roadways today, canals usually ran above ground, but many required tunnels to pass efficiently through an obstacle, such as a mountain. Canal construction inspired some of the world's earliest tunnels. With the introduction of trains and cars came a tremendous expansion in tunnel construction. During the 19th and 20th centuries, as the development of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Restoring the History of African Americans in The Negro... Why Dig up the Past? The Negro Digs Up His Past by Arthur Schomburg is an article he wrote in 1925, in which he complaint that somehow through the years African American history has been questioned and denied as many claim that Africans have no history at all. He uses this paper to illustrate the importance of recording the collective accomplishments of African Americans and that we must at all costs save any evidence, so that things like this do not happen again in the future. He wants to make sure to leave no place for doubts that African Americans have a history and is irrefutable in the eyes of skeptics and the world. According to Schomburg, "Though it is orthodox to think of America as the one country where it is unnecessary to have a past, what is luxury for the nation as a whole becomes a prime social necessity for the Negro(Schomburg 231)." He emphasizes that blacks have to dig deep into their own history in order to hold their own against the current oppression. He wants to set the record straight and restore the history that was omitted, the history that was denied to them, a history that has somehow been stolen from them forever. What can the past teach us? This is a very widespread and very used question, but if we think carefully of this question that seems so simple and innocent it has so many meanings and importance to mankind, the present and what may be the future. The past can teach us many things, where we come from, who we are, who were our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Boston Big Dig Boston's Big Dig was a massive road infrastructure project planned to improve the flow of traffic, alleviating chronic congestion across Boston and the surrounding commuter areas, and to replace the outdated elevated Central Artery road that effectively split the city in half. The plan was to replace the Existing Central Artery, a crumbling elevated six–lane highway, with an extended underground highway, and a 14–lane two bridge crossing that would Extend Massachusetts Interstate 90 from its former end, south of downtown Boston, through a tunnel under South Boston and Boston Harbor. Our text raised the question of whether the original cost estimates given were in good faith or "turned" to meet political realities, and I believe the answer to be the latter. It is extremely hard to comprehend how anyone, much less the government, believed a project of this magnitude and enormous would come close to 2 billion and take just a couple years to complete. I mean even I thought it would take at least a decade to complete. Project Managers have been known to deliberately understate the cost involved to secure a bid however, this seems overly extreme besides I think officials tried to keep the factual cost estimates under wraps for the sake of this very much needed new transportation system. Nonetheless, costs increased across all contracts throughout the project's life cycle despite enormous efforts to transfer, mitigate, or avoid risk and contain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether that text is a poem, novel or film, we as scholars must find evidence to support our claims of the current text. The text I shall be analyzing is the short film Dig, written and directed by Toby Halbrooks. The main story line of this film is of a young girl watching her father dig an unprecedented hole in their own backyard. To the untrained mind, he seems to just be digging for no apparent reason. As the daughter was eating her cereal, her mother came into the scene briefly. Taking a closer look out the window, the daughter sees her father begin to dig a hole in the back yard. Flocking to the scene, she watches him for a bit and eventually asks her father, "What are you doing?" Immediately after this question was raised, the father stared at his daughter for a few seconds then silently proceeded to dig. The evidence of the lower–middle class again shows how the father may simply be trying to avoid his problems and duties as a father for one afternoon. In addition to the evidence of belonging to the lower–middle class, the response to his daughter's question may point to how he wants to keep his reasoning to himself. Arturo Schomburg's The Negro Digs Up His Past In "The Negro Digs Up His Past", Arturo Schomburg attempted to take up the deep study of the African Americans' history to display their past more closely and respond the statements that they have no past. He realized the necessity for the present generation to repair the history that was damaged by the slavery. Schomburg noted that "there is the definite desire and determination to have a history, well–documented, widely known......as a stimulating and inspiring tradition for the coming generation" (670). I think what Schomburg tended to do was to introduce the other side of the black people's history––the splendid past and remarkable achievements, and reminded people to view their past objectively rather than focusing on the enslaved part. I totally agree with what Schomburg said, because every nation or race has its unique history and deserves to be treated fairly. From the reading material, I can see that the black people have lots of achievements they can proud of. What they should do currently is to repair their history and enable people to know a more complete one. I agree with Sandberg fully because there are many people will say "Women cannot drive" or "Women are only good at being servants, which includes cooking, cleaning, and other daily household chores". While that is not true at all, women are grouped by a statistic. Simply because women are often skilled at cooking and cleaning, does not mean that is their goal or what they aspire to become. • 31. Boston Big Dig : Insights Into Improved Project Management... Name Professor Course Date Boston Big Dig: Insights into Improved Project Management When any organization undertakes a large–scale project, the first and most important component to ensure that the process runs smoothly and effectively is effective project management. Project management not only sets the tone for the overall project, but creates the plan and facilitates effective implementation. From the first meeting to plan the project to the last report written about the experience, project management is integral to project success. The overall goal of a project manager is to oversee a project from idea to completion. Within that scope, many roles and responsibilities arise that influence the project and how effectively it is completed, or not. The role of the project manager does not mean that the employees and other participants are not important. However, the management approach implemented by the project manager is key to the effectiveness of the project. The importance of an effective project management model can be illustrated through the lessons learned in Boston's "Big Dig" project. BOSTON'S BIG DIG PROJECT The idea behind Boston's Big Dig project was founded in the desire for the city of Boston "to replace the elevated I–93 expressway through downtown Boston with a tunnel" (Poole and Samuel 2). Both essays depict the struggles African Americans faced, but also attempt to inspire African Americans to see beyond their struggles and establish their identities in America. Both essays begin by stating the issues that African Americans are facing at that time. Du Bois reflects on the way people viewed African Americans as problems and how that affected one's own self–awareness, regardless of what they previously thought. Constantly feeling like a problem and constantly being reminded of it elicits a lack of self–worth. Du Bois says, "That sky was bluest when I could beat my mates at examination– time, or beat them at a foot–race, or even beat their stingy heads. Alas, with the years all this fine contempt began to fade; for the worlds I longed for, and all their dazzling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both come together to fulfill goals set in "Defining Black Identity in 21st Century America" by Ewauare Osayande. The first two motivate and inspire African Americans to be proud of themselves, how far they have come, and the effort they have taken into pioneering society. The main objective Osayande wants to convey is to establish an identity while resisting dehumanization and power against them (Osayande 6). Du Bois's essay describes the feeling of a double– consciousness (Du Bois 11)." This helps establish the unique identity that Osayande wanted to accomplish. One can mix together the African culture with the American culture and create something unique. Schomburg's idea of revisiting history and what ancestors experienced will also help accomplish that goal. His essay discusses the immensely–appreciated initiative taken in the past that serves as a prideful accomplishment to help African Americans realize their potential ... • 35. Character Analysis: The Hero's Journey Nearly every story, whether fiction or nonfiction, for kids or for adults, science fiction or romance, follows the same journey, the hero's journey. The hero's journey, developed by Joseph Campbell, describes the journey of a hero from their ordinary, to a special world, and back to the ordinary world that is now different in some way. The journey contains specific events such as a call to adventure, a refusal of a call, and a crossing of the first threshold, as well as specific archetypes such as a herald, a mentor, and a shadow. This concept shows the common pattern present in stories in the myths of cultures around the world, in the lives of people around the world, and in the literature of all levels of complexity. Mike Mulligan and his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel shows nearly all of these archetypes. Many of the archetypes are obvious throughout the text such as Mike as the hero, Henry as the shadow, and the selectmen as the threshold guardian. Other archetypes can appear multiple times. In the book, Mike is shown to have two mentors. The first appears during the typical appearance of a mentor. A newspaper gives him needed information and sets him on the path to enter the special world. While in the special world, Mike finds a second mentor. The second mentor, a little boy, helps him during his tests, assists him in his road back to the ordinary world, and remains with him in the ordinary world. Both of Mike's mentors fit the archetype. One archetype that appears scarcely in the book is a shape– shifter. A shape–shifter is a character that does not remain the same throughout the journey and can disrupt the adventure. The shape–shifter in this story is the public. The public is shown to be fickle and easily agrees with whatever people say. When the little boy tells them to watch they do, and when Henry questions how Mike is going to get out, the public begins questioning him as well. The public cannot be tied onto one side and, therefore, represent the shape–shifter in the hero's journey. Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel represents the hero's journey through the ... • 36. Revenge Digs Graves Essay Revenge Digs Graves "The man who seeks revenge digs two graves." Ken Kesey wrote this quote in his book Sometimes a Great Notion. This quote embodies the result of Laertes revenge. Laertes was the son of Polonius, who died by Hamlets hand. He was told this by Claudius and started his quest. By setting out to kill Hamlet, he sealed his own fate. Revenge is quite literally a killer, however, it affects both parties of revenge. Revenge is strenuous, it is all consuming. In the case of Laertes, he was so consumed by his hatred that he did not realise he was being used by Claudius. Only in proximity and death did he snap out of his rage. Laertes's form of justice is in a rage–filled death for Hamlet, he completes his quest but dies, his last moments give him time to reflect and expose claudius; these events impact the ending of the play and the outcome of the characters. After Laertes was told that Polonius was killed, he was consumed with anger, rage and sadness. His father has died his sister is now mentally unstable and he is having trouble coping. He decides he will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sadly, he figured out too late that Claudius was tricking him. Justice is in many different forms, not all of them are safe and reliable. Laertes dug his own grave while trying to kill Hamlet. And it was ultimately his downfall. However, he able to change the outcome, and that may be his biggest triumph. Slowing down and assessing the situation would have been the smartest way to figure out just what happened to Hamlet, Ophelia, Claudius, and Polonius. He realised too late what was happening. Analysis Of Dig If You Will The Picture By Crystal Wilkinson Writer, Crystal Wilkinson, in her article, "Dig If You Will The Picture," recounts her younger painful days and how she utilized music during that time to cope. Wilkinson's argument is that music, specifically Prince's, had the ability to pull her through all the terrible things she encountered in life and helped her gain back the control that was stolen from her. She conveys her argument by using a descriptive style that shows in her word choice and tone, imagery, and structure of the article. She wants the audience to feel as innocent as she did in the beginning, as shameful and disgusted in the middle, and as nostalgic in the end of her article. In the beginning, she creates the image of what she looks like, "... [b]ell bottom jeans and blue peasant blouses and striped knit shirts that clung to my breasts, " (Wilkinson). By doing so, readers can vividly imagine what she looks like and feel more attached and involved in the story she is creating. In the middle she takes us through all the times she was sexually abused and by using imagery, she makes the reader feel as beaten down and scared as she was. For example, she creates an image of the church where her first sexual assault occurred, "At the entrance to the church was a small vestibule with two white doors. Behind the doors was a dangling rope attached to the church bell," (Wilkinson). She goes on to build the tension with her words like "groped," "accident," "hiding," and "secret," (Wilkinson). These make the reader more and more uncomfortable as she describes her experiences, which was the point, to make the reader feel some semblance of what she did. In the end, she describes her older and present self, looking through old pictures: " Sometimes in old photographs, I see glimpses of that young woman. Corners of my mouth turned down. In other words, this tend to take a great vast amount of time for the society to understand the great importance of intelligence people of African descendant, who tend to be capable of, just as any other ethics group, alternatively, for many centuries this has not be recognized because of the fact that the continuation of hatred and segregation flourished continually not until current decades, thereby, causing a standstill to the the advancement of the Africans.
