2. INTRODUCTION
• Preterm labor also known as premature labor. It’s when
your body starts getting ready for birth too early in
your pregnancy. Labor is premature if it starts more than
three weeks before your due date.
3. • Preterm delivery also known as premature birth is the
birth of a baby at fewer than 37 weeks gestational age.
These babies are known as preemies or premmies.
4. • For multiple gestations use the 7th characters it starts from
1-9
• 0=not applicable or unspecified
• 1=fetus1
• 2=fetus2
• 3=fetus3
• 4=fetus4
• 5=fetus5
• 9=other fetus
5. LONG LABOR
• Prolonged labor can be determined by labor stage and
whether the cervix has thinned and opened appropriately
during labor. If your baby is not born after approximately
20 hours of regular contractions, you are likely to be in
prolonged labor. Some health experts may say it occurs
after 18 to 24 hours.
6. Causes of long labor
• The baby is very big and cannot move through the birth
canal.
• The baby is in an abnormal position. Normally, the baby is
head-down facing your back.
• The birth canal is too small for the baby to move through.
• Your contractions are very weak.
7. Obstetric trauma
• Obstetric trauma during vaginal delivery without
instrumentation is an injury to the mother while giving birth
by vaginal delivery without the aid of birthing instruments.
8. • Obstetric trauma includes fourth-degree perineal
lacerations; laceration of the cervix, vaginal wall or sulcus;
injury to bladder or urethra; and repair of obstetric
lacerations of the uterus, cervix, corpus uteri, bladder,
urethra, rectum and sphincter ani. C-section deliveries are
not included.
