Born in 1644, Matsuo Basho started his young years of life in the service of the Lord of Ueno Castle to train to be a samurai. He was the youngest of
seven siblings and lived in the Iga province. At age twenty–two his samurai master died. This caused him to go on his first pilgrimage to Mount Koya
in 1666. He also decided that he wanted to study poetry instead of being a samurai. Basho then traveled to Kyoto and begged his master's teacher,
Kigin, to accept him as a student. There he stayed for five years, studying Chinese classics, calligraphy, and poetry. In 1679, Matsuo Basho wrote his
first verse. He continued writing numerous haikus which were inspired by the many simplicities of nature. His haikus were simple and quiet; no puns

of the order and dreaded having to go home. As he returns from work he packs his mother's supper, lifted her onto his back and started walking
towards the Obatsayuma, the mountain of the "abandoning of aged". The mother was anxious as they drifted path to path going deeper and

These poems are all written based off of my, Miciah's, opinions. I have a distinct perspective on religion, therefore I chose to write a poem describing
hate and love and how I thing religion is a dumb idea. My poem is titled "Hate and Love", based off of the poem "Fire and Ice" by Robert Frost. In it I

I used the imagery, pattern and rhyming in a similar manor to William Blake's poem "Tyger". "Poetry" is simply about how I am not meant to be a
poet. It has a similar subject as "How Poetry Comes to Me" by Gary Snyder in the sense that they both are relating poetry and themselves to create a

Matsuo Basho was a famous Japanese poet that lived in the Tokugawa period. He was born in 1644 and died in 1694, dying at the age of 50.

While Basho was in his early years the Tokugawa shoguns ruled, and were the second highest rank on the Japanese Feudal System, though they
had more power than the Emperor himself. Matsuo Basho was a poet who did haikus as his main poems. Haikus reflected on the beliefs and
values of the Tokugawa period since they weren't some free poem with no rules to it. Haikus followed a strict and orderly pattern. Olivia Mitchell
observed, "Matsuo didn't believe in the hierarchy system and took long breaks from society." It is evident from this quote that Matsuo didn't really
