Get Our Kids in School
It is dawn in the Ugandan village. Bali awakens to the sound of her little brother stirring in his sleep.
She gets up and coos in his ear little sounds of endearment hoping to lull him back into a placid
slumber. Fortunately she is successful and her little brother continues his rhythmic snores, but Bali
does not get to continue resting. She must collect water, stone and wood; she must prepare clean
dishes and clothes. She must pound cassava root and collect fish; she must prepare food for her
family. By the time she finishes, it is 3:30 in the afternoon and she is enervated. Her juvenile stature
is much too frail for the amount of work expected of her, but it must be done. Though Bali is six
years old and should be attending primary school, she can not because she has to survive. Not many
children, especially in developing countries, have the opportunity to go to school. However just
because the children are immersed with chores, does not mean it is morally correct to neglect their
right to education. Limited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fifty nine million adolescents are being rejected their right to education (Equitable Access n.pag).
Whether the reason is because they are overwhelmed with chores or because the closest school is
across the river and through the woods, kids between the ages of five and nine are not learning how
to read or solve an addition problem. In Mexico, girls, specifically, are being denied their right to
education. According to "Access to Elementary Education for Indigenous Girls", "...women are
forced to quit school at very early ages..." (De Guevara n.pag). These women do not lack the
physical access to education, because there are schools available to them. However, they are denied
the actual right to education because they are kept at home to do

Falta Baby Thesis
Imagine having your husband killed during the night, where all you other kids and a pregnant you
are sleeping, that is what happened to Falta. The group of Boko Haram took the live of her husband
while she was three months pregnant. Falta and her whole family has been sleeping in the forest
without barely any essential items they need to survive. After four months without her husband,
Falta had a baby. Her delivery was not like regular delivery, she didn't have any of the basic supplies
needed to have a good delivery. I can not even picture or envision having a life like hers, the pain
she must have felt having that baby in the unlikely place or a forest. Maita, her little baby became
dangerously malnourished from the limited amount of milk she was receiving from Falta. After
going to a specialized clinic, Falta and her baby are recovering from the hard effects of violence and
hunger in their home of Nigeria (Dwyer).
There are millions like Falta who suffer from their underdeveloped country and are trying to have at
least one more breath. It may seem dramatic as I say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not in a bad way however, in so many ways they want to save the lives of kids who need it so badly.
In the first place, they want everybody to recognize that children need rights like every other person

the world. They want children to be shielded from the appalling effects from war, inequality,
malnutrition and not by some of the kids of the world, they want to aid every single person they

UNICEF Challenges
Introduction
Alfred Nobel once said, "If you could only understand that we can help a human being without any
ulterior motive." Mr Nobels words echos a sentiment of the the Declaration of the Rights of the
Child or by another name, the Geneva Declaration of the Rights of children. It was adopted by the
United Nations in 1959. This worthy goal to protect children must be carried by people that can
fulfill that purpose and reach into the world, where many need help. UNICEF is that program.
(UNCF) UNICEF or United Nations Internationals Children Emergency Fund has a duty to help
make the world a better place. It is vital to understand what UNICEF is, its origins, the type of
problems they face and how they help. It is also essential to look at challenges they have and how
they can improve as an organization.
History of UNICEF UNICEF had its origins in 1946. It was 3 men who played an essential role,
Former President Herbert Hoover, Maurice Pate, an American business man, later the first executive
director of UNICEF. Ludwik Rajchman, an advocate for global health.
By 1947, Pate set up an office in D.C. He assembled a team and built networks in Europe and
recruited staff from the League of Nations. It took only 8 months to get approval for UNICEF to
support programs for Albania,Austria, China, Finland and a few others . (Jolly, 12)
Its first program focused on establishing feeding programs and provided 4.5 million children a daily
meal in 30,000 locations in 12 countries. It

Marketing Strategies Of The United Nations Children 's...
1.0 Introduction
A Non–profit Organisation (NPO) is an establishment that uses its funding for the pursuit of a
specific purpose such as for a charitable cause (Lorette, 2015). It is different from a for–profit
organisation as its objective is to provide greater good to the society rather than to maximise the
wealth of its stakeholders. The surplus revenues of an NPO are used for either its expansion, self–
preservation or plans and no part of the profit is distributed to its members. NPOs are increasingly
starting to operate like traditional business organisations as strategic planning and marketing is
imperative for their survival.
NPOs must market themselves in order to generate funding required to meet their organisational
objectives. It is imperative for an NPO to brand itself as many companies choose to affiliate
themselves with an NPO based on its reputation and perception. This also gives them a competitive
advantage.
This essay aims to explore the marketing strategies of The United Nations Children's Fund
(UNICEF) and American Red Cross. The essay will further compare the two by analysing its
marketing efforts and then drawing managerial inferences for the same.

United Nations International Children 's Emergency Fund Essay
Food and Nutrition

Introduction In this paper I'm going explore "United Nations International Children's Emergency
Fund (UNICEF)" and what they do to provide food and nutrition to people in developing countries.
Also in this paper I will be exploring "Community food banks" and what they do to provide food
and nutrition to people in need in the U.S. There is a statement in our text that obesity results from
over nutrition. Is this always true? Is it possible to be obese and lack adequate nutrition? Which
foods contribute most to obesity? How nutritious are those foods?
United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF)
What they do to provide food and nutrition to people in developing countries UNICEF was created
in 1946 to provide relief to children in countries devastated by World War II. After 1950 the fund
directed its efforts toward general programs for the improvement of children's welfare, particularly
in less–developed countries and in various emergency situations. The organization's broader mission
was reflected in the name it adopted in 1953, the United Nations Children's Fund. UNICEF was
awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1965. "UNICEF does whatever it takes to save and protect the
world 's most vulnerable children. Forty years ago, UNICEF figured out that promoting simple,
low–cost interventions like hand washing and breastfeeding could save millions of lives.

people consider her a style icon, she is also recognized as the quintessence of volunteering. After her
illustrious stardom, Audrey devoted her life to what she considered the pinnacle of her career
volunteering at UNICEF. Before visiting countries, she would read all the information she could.
While in these countries she held sick children helped with injections and coaxed starved children to
eat. She spoke with mothers, children and doctors in the make shift clinics. She pleaded to visit

Role of UNICEF and the International Labour Organization...
Introduction This paper deals with the role of transnational actors like UNICEF and the International
Labour Organization (ILO) in the working children's movement. It examines the role of
development communication in empowering working children, and its impact on the movement.
The paper begins with a brief introduction to development, linking it with issues concerning
working children. It then goes into a brief overview of UNICEF and the ILO, and talks about the
role of each in the international working children's movement. It evaluates one program executed by
each of the organizations in dealing with a development situation, in terms of intent and purpose,
policies and procedures, obstacles faced, and the outcome of each ... Show more content on

Development can be defined as a wide participatory process of social change in a society intended to
bring about both social and material advancement including greater equality, freedom and other
valued qualities for the majority of the people through gaining greater control over their
environment (Everett Rogers, 1976, Moemeka, Pg.8). I believe that development needs to start at
the grassroots, and it needs to begin with children. This is not to say that this is the only kind of
development that needs to take place, but this is the best kind of development for the future, as it is a
fresh learning process vs. an 'undoing old methods and re–learning' process. Issues concerning
children therefore need to be addressed immediately. Child labour is one of the primary concerns in
developing countries. Child labour has been defined by the ILO as all economic activities carried
out by persons less than 15 years of age (regardless of occupational status, wage–earners, own–
account workers, unpaid family workers etc.) Child labour is illegal in most countries, especially
bonded labour as well as those situations which involve children working in dangerous and
hazardous environments. Children are often engaged in work that is detrimental to their emotional,
psychological as well as physical well being, as in the case of prostitution. According to a 1997
estimate there are about 250 million

Eleanor Roosevelt Character Analysis
A woman is a lot like a tea bag–you can't tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water." This
is one of Eleanor Roosevelt's famous quotes that demonstrates her character, she believes that
women are powerful people who are more capable of things than they are portrayed to be. Eleanor is
one of the most influential woman in history, she believes in equal rights for all individuals.
Therefore she should be the spokesperson for UNICEF. "UNICEF is a company that works in 190
countries and territories to save children's lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their
potential." UNICEF looks for people like Eleanor. She was bullied and knows what it is like to be
treated unequally, she fights for what's right, and she's selfless.

and well being of every child; "we advocate for measures to give children the best start in life,
because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person's future"
(UNICEF). UNICEF works to help citizens become involved by spreading awareness and through

Many of their campaigns present information that relate to a certain audience. For instance, on the
in–troduction page of their main website, UNICEF states "Today's problems of poverty and vio–
lence will never subside unless we invest in the physical, mental and emotional development of the
next generation" (UNICEF). This statement appeals to a specific audience–that of our pre–sent
society. The excerpt highlights the importance of investing in the next generation, some–thing that
only society's current members can act upon. UNICEF manifests their advertisement in a way that
promotes their agency with substance, it presents each member of the audience with a chance to act.
In fact, the organization even has a group devoted to this specific idea–the UNICEF Next
Generation. "UNICEF Next Generation is a group of young leaders, entrepre–neurs and innovators
in their 20s and 30s who commit their resources, resolve and enthusiasm toward supporting
UNICEF's lifesaving work. Members of this group study issues affecting chil–dren all over the

Pros And Cons Of The United Nations Children's Fund
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is an international organization present in 190
countries (Unicef, n.d.). It is an agency focused on the area of maternal and child health. Recently,
the organization is providing fresh water and food for mothers and children, education for mothers
and girls, and immunization programs for children (Unicef, n.d.). The advantages for this program
are the benefits to the education and health of the women and children, but the disadvantages are
ability to retrieve funds all the time, and providing care to everyone. They have to have a focused
topic, like they do, in order to start to care for the population. There are many issues in the third

Unicef : A Humanitarian And Development Agency
About UNICEF
UNICEF is a leading humanitarian and development agency that works all over the world mainly
for the rights of children, but also those of women too. They are a united nations program that
primarily provides assistance to children and women in developing countries all over the world.
Starting with safe shelter, nutrition, protection from disasters, prenatal care, clean water, healthcare,
sanitation and education. For almost 70 years they have worked to help better the lives of children
and their families. UNICEF is active in over 190 countries and they work to overcome the obstacles
placed in a child's life like poverty, disease, violence, and discrimination all to give them the best
start in life. Children and families that have been affected by HIV or AIDS can also receive help
from UNICEF as well as education to help prevent the spread of the disease.
Needs and Challenges
They are often times the first responders whenever disaster hits those countries. UNICEF sends in a
team of people who begin to provide the women and children with emergency and medical help if it
is needed. Developing countries have fragile if any communication infrastructures. Internet and
phone networks can be very slow and be subject to failure from power outages and weather, which
includes the occurrence of natural disasters. If or when these networks fail, this can seriously slow
down UNICEF's ability to get in and provide assistance.
In order to address these issues, we will need to

Persuasive Essay On World Hunger
World hunger is on the rise since the turn of the century. Many people overlook world hunger
because there are many organizations supporting the cause. Awareness has been brought towards the
cause but surprisingly the number still keeps going up. "In 2016, the number of chronically
undernourished people reached 815 million, up 38 million from the previous year" (McVeigh, K).
Having 11% of the world's population be undernourished is a serious problem that many people are
not aware of. Even though there is a campaign to end world hunger by 2030 it will be impossible to
achieve if people don't start to help. UNICEF has recognized this and has launched it's own world
hunger campaign that has inspired many to make a difference. "There are 795 million people in the
world that do not posses the nutritional necessities to live a healthy life" (World Hunger Statistics).
Furthermore, one in seven people on Earth are hungry. It is just not hunger that affects so many
people in the world, but also lack of clean water. UNICEF understands this issue and has conducted
its own research. "In 2012 it was estimated by UNICEF that alone 6.6 million children under the age
of five died that year from preventable causes" (EVERY CHILD COUNTS). That is like losing the
entire population of Los Angeles and Chicago combined. Of those 6.6 million children, nearly 45%
died of poor nutrition. That is close to three million children.
"WFP (World Food Programme) estimated that it takes about $3.2 billion

UNICEF In The 1950's
Early 1950s, UNICEF's funds received contributions from 47 governments, a significant increase
from 4 years ago when it first started. UNICEF launched the program Trick–or–Treat for UNICEF,
mobilizing children to help children. The program is continuing until the present. The only
difference between them is many kids lived in other countries where their low living condition due
to war, poverty, natural disasters make it hard for them to survive. The kids in those countries cannot
afford having Halloween, nor candy what they need and want. American kids go door to door,
calling out "Trick–or–treat for UNICEF," and collecting donations for children in the other
countries. The programs have raised more than $175 million. As UNICEF had proved its
significance in responding to the children's needs, the UN recognized the organization's power in
altering children's lives. It was important that no child should be left out. There were children ...

In fact, the mission of assisting children's lives would never end. The work of UNICEF should go
on. Therefore, UNICEF went through a process of adjustment to become more effective and
accessible. The year 1953 marked a turning point of UNICEF when the organization changed its
name and focus. Starting as a temporary relief programme, UNICEF transitioned into a permanent
part of the UN. Even though it was still called UNICEF, "international" and "emergency" were
dropped, the official name was shortened to United Nations Children's Fund, displaying its program
expansion and new purpose. The organization evolved from a short–term project, which was
reported to be "one of the very generous activities that have come out of the tragedy of war," to one
of the largest international non–profit organizations (Ferguson, 1972, p. 226). UNICEF became a

The Lack Of Education And Global Inequalities In Kenya
Global inequalities are the things that society identifies as not equal and unfair. There are many
inequalities in Kenya including income, life expectancy, education, water, gender and poverty
inequalities. Although these are negative problems, opportunities in Kenya have shown
improvement as people are starting to make a difference by sending more people to school and
giving children education they need and also food and water for people to survive. Amnesty
International and Unicef are all apart of the world trying to make a difference. Amnesty
International is the world's largest and most–respected human rights organisation. Amnesty
campaigns against abuse of human rights around the world. The other NGO that I have chose is
UNICEF who promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child in the world.
The lack of opportunities is a struggle in Kenya for women and children as they are a very poor
country and can't afford food and education for their community. The people that are affected by this
are women and children who are treated differently. Some of the many inequalities for women are
that they are paid less than men, this is due to gender inequality and discrimination against women.
It has scientifically shown that women are earning what men were paid in 2006 and will take
another 118 years for women to be equally paid the same as men. Another inequality for women in
Kenya is that they are less educated than men, this is evident as they have less access to education,

Health Among the many fights against poverty, improving children's' health is one of the major
responsibilities. A healthy child becomes a healthy adult, a person who has the ability to create a
better life for them, the people around them, their community, and their countries. One of the core
UNICEF objectives is to improve the health of the children of the world. Most of the children deaths
occur due to pneumonia, preterm birth complications, intra–partum related complications, diarrhea
and malaria. The issues that prevails, is the fact that universal access to basic social services is not
available, and poverty. UNICEF is addressing these threats as it works with the governments,

The "Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS Campaign" is dedicated to reversing the HIV and
AIDS epidemic by 2015. Its work is complimentary to the Millennium Development Goal 6, which
is ending HIV, Malaria and Tuberculosis. Immunization One of the most cost–effective, and
successful public health interventions is immunization. The latest data states that in 2012, 111
million children received immunization with vaccines against life–threatening diseases, which
further averted approximately 2–3 deaths per year and a number of episodes of illness and disability.
Despite the significant gains, there are yet nearly 22.6 million children under the age of one year
(approx.. 20% of children born each year) who are not immunized, which exposes them to
disabilities or premature death. With immunization, a country's growth can be boosted, as
immunization makes economic sense. Though there are some challenges in being able to vaccinate
all target children, UNICEF has made major initiatives and major progress. While working with
governments, partners and communities, UNICEF is aiming to increase demand for immunization,
establishing better cold chain and logistic systems, and increase national ownership for
immunization. 36% of the

Unicef Rhetorical Devices
Further, the use of time–tested rhetorical devices also serves as a strategy practiced in UNICEF's
rhetoric. This is when the repetition of a specific word occurs in order to draw the attention of the
audience toward it. UNICEF's mission statement displays this phenomenon through the repeated use
of the word 'protect' or 'protection.' These words have strong value as they, in themselves, have only
a positive signification. Google defines the word 'protect' as "to keep safe from harm or injury;" this
definition can serve to highlight the benevolent nature of the word and, correspondingly, emphasize
its' constructive framework. By carefully organizing the context of a statement, time–tested

Rhetorical Analysis Of Unicef 's Campaign For Children
UNICEF created a campaign for children that need a family; hence, the title, Every Child Needs a
Family due to the increasing number of children without families. These children lack a caring and
loving family; therefore, in order to decrease the number of children without a family, UNICEF
brilliantly put together the advertisement that touches the heart of those who look at it. The image
seems to be taken at a storefront with a male and a female mannequin. Perhaps, since the
mannequins look like the ideal parents, the child decides to hold the mannequins ' hands. The
construction of this advertisement incorporated the use of rhetorical strategies such as a
contemporary style environment, in order to enhance the rhetorical situation. The rhetorical situation
then creates a more effective approach due to the display of affection that tries to inform its audience
about the increase of children that needs a family and people should make a difference by helping
out in any way. The rhetorical strategies incorporated into the advertisement played an enormous
role in its effectiveness. The author, UNICEF, has a large influence due to its global recognition as
an organization that works for children in over 190 countries. For this particular audience, UNICEF
is targeting adults, which leads to the purpose. UNICEF targets adults so that the adults will be more
likely to adopt a child in need. The phrase that the advertisement stated is, "Every child needs a
family"; therefore, the

had started to extend its aid into Latin America and Asia. Eleanor Roosevelt, the U.S. delegate to the
UN argued that UNICEF was a temporary group to help children after war and not that it's over the
work should be delegated to other permanent UN organizations. (Explained in more detail)
Pakistan's delegate to the UN, Ahmed Shah Bokhari, argued against Roosevelt in saying that the
images of European children after the war are the realities of children living in other regions every
day. In 1950, it was agreed that UNICEF's charter would be renewed for another 3 years, and then in
1953, Roosevelt argued to make the organization permanent. It then decided to drop the words
'international' and 'emergency' from its name, so its title then became the United Nations Children 's
Fund yet keeping its full acronym as UNICEF.
In the 1950s, UNICEF spiraled into a set of mass campaigns of epidemic diseases such as
tuberculosis, yaws, trachoma, leprosy and malaria; this decade was knows as the "Era of Mass
Disease Campaign". UNICEF worked to complement and help the World Health Organization,
WHO. They worked with each disease independently depending on the incredibly high amount of
cases of each illness in each region. With the help of immense advancements with technology and
medicine within the last century, UNICEF was able to effectively treat thousands – even millions–

Street Children
INTRODUCTION
One of the miseries brought by the modern civilization is the situation of the street children. In the
old times, and still now in some areas, children worked with their parents and reamed a lot of things
from them; later, children looked after aged parents, and therefore much value was put on children,
and there was strong bond of affection between parents and child. However, now it has changed.
Parents go to work, and children do not go to work with them. Children only cost much money for
food and education. Parents of a poor family are suffering from much financial stress. As the stress
becomes bigger, their love for their children decreases. Then, a home, which should be a place
children receive affection, becomes a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

conducted actual outreach on the streets, conducted interviews, made initial contact with families or

provided temporary shelter, intake, counseling and referral services through drop–in centers.
Reception and action centers run by two city governments receive street children picked up by

on the street after their release form the shelter since they had no other alternative to earn a living.

Liberalism Vs. Realism Essay
Liberalism vs. Realism
In a world where the drive for power and the will to dominate are held to be fundamental aspects of
human nature as the Classical Realists would argue, the necessity for International Organizations
cannot be dismissed as some liberalists argue. According to Iriye 2002, IGO's consists of institutions
that come into existence through formal agreements among nations and represent their
corresponding governments (Iriye 2002, Pg. 12–14). With that in mind, some liberalists argue that
joining international organizations and institutions like the United Nations socializes some leaders
so that their motivations are more benign (Dunne 2011, Pg. 103). I am convinced to a certain extent
with this idea as I feel that even though classical realists argue that every man has within him the
desire to rule or the desire for power (Dunne and Schmidt 2011, Pg. 90). When several leaders come
together all from different IR theoretical backgrounds (liberalists, realists, constructivists) each
decision they make comes collectively thus not leaving too much room for their individual biases
based on their theoretical perspectives to impact important international relations issues
"negatively". Although I highly doubt if anything can be done to control the human desire for power
accumulation as a classical realist would say, a part of the psyche of man, I do believe the liberalists
argument to be of substance.
Because IGO's result in socialization, they also create a

identified pneumonia as one of the world's leading causes of childhood mortality accounting for one
in five under–five deaths. The fourth Millennium Development Goal (MDG) from the 2000 summit
is to reduce under–five mortality rate by two–thirds by 20151. With its significant contribution to
under–five mortality, reduction of the childhood pneumonia mortality is essential to achieving this
goal. Over the last two decades there has been significant progress in reduction of childhood
pneumonia deaths with 58% less deaths occurring globally in 20132. However, pneumonia still
accounts for about 19% of childhood under–five deaths and contributes significantly to morbidity
and disability among children globally. Majority of these pneumonia–related deaths occur in
developing countries and are concentrated in a few countries1,2. In 2013, over half of the under–five
pneumonia deaths occurred in 10 countries located in sub–Saharan Africa, South Asia and South–
east Asia1,2. Successful interventions for the reduction in childhood pneumonia mortality include:
protecting child health by ensuring adequate nutrition and hygiene, prevention of pneumonia by
immunization against causative pathogens, reducing indoor air pollution and optimizing access to
prompt treatment of pneumonia1–3. The World Health Organization

Philanthropy In Sports
Professional sports in which athletes receive compensation for their athletic talent and abilities, is
often only associated with the entertainment industry. One can watch a sporting event on TV or pay
to go to the arena or stadium to watch the competition live. Outside of watching and participating in
a sport, professional leagues are businesses, concerned about making a profit from their fan base. It
is seldom that one would associate a professional athletic club with philanthropy. According to
Webster's College Dictionary, the definition of philanthropy is an "altruistic concern for human
beings especially as manifested by donations of money, property, or work to needy persons or to
institutions advancing human welfare" (Webster's). In a business concerned with its bottom line,
donating money for a humanitarian cause would seem like a seldom seem practice. The Barcelona
Football Club, however, has proven throughout the years that giving back to the community is what
helps them adhere to their team motto "mes que un club" or Catalan for "more than a club".
Barcelona Football Club, located in Barcelona, Spain, according to Forbes is the eighth most
valuable sports team in the world and the third most valuable soccer team. In 2012, the team earned
about $602 million in revenues and a record $59 million in profits with player's salaries reaching
$362 million (Fontevecchia). Of that profit, 0.7% and 0.5% of player salaries is donated to their own

Paper On Premature Pregnancy
Premature pregnancy amongst the young adolescents increases the risk of health for both the mother
and the child. The baby may suffer health risk if the mother is too young in age. According to the
World Health Organization. (2015), the maternal mortality ratio in 1990–2015, MMR per 100,000
live births were: 178 in 2000, 109 in 2010 and 23.9 in 2017. See table 2
Observatory on Sexual and Reproductive Health (OSAR) reported that between the years of 2012
and 2014, there were 189,646 births amongst young mothers below the age of 19 years. Moreover,
they considered that pregnancy before the age of 14 is considered rape/violation, in where

due to the economic and political situation. In 1993, the National Salt Producers Association created
the "Procesadora y Distribuidora de Sal" in order to establish a central plant for processing and
fortifying salt with micronutrients. According to UNICEF 2011, there were 114,000 newborns
unprotected against iodine. The Office of Dietary Supplements – Vitamin A. (n.d) stated that
Vitamin A is crucial for the immune system (overcome infections), and prevent blindness (night
blindness/other visual diseases). UNICEF 2014, stated that in Guatemala there are 3 ways to ingest
Vitamin A such as, supplementation, fortification of foods (sugar), and variety of vitamin A rich
food (carrots, eggs, etc.). According to UNICEF 2014, in Guatemala sugar fortification began early
in the 1960's. The World Health Organization (2009), estimated 16% of preschool aged children had
Vitamin A deficiency (VAD), and that 1,500 deaths annually were contributed to Vitamin A
deficiency. However, according to the National Micronutrient Survey in Guatemala (ENMICRON)
between the years 2009–2010, VAD amounts children 5 years was reduced to 0.3 meaning that it
was practically eradicated. The Office of Dietary Supplements – Iron. (n.d), stated that iron is

Non–Profit organization
A non–profit organization is an organization that generally has the aim of serving the interests of the
public. A nonprofit organization is a charitable organization that legally does not declare its profit
but rather, it goes ahead and utilizes the revenue they have accumulated after their normal operating
expenses in their services to the public interest. Therefore, the organization uses the surplus
revenues to achieve their mission and purpose rather than dividing the income among the directors
as dividends or profits.

There are quite some nonprofit organizations in the world that are very well–known by people all

Human Rights Watch (HRW), National Public Radio (NPR), as well as the Human Rights
Campaign. These are some of the widely known and recognized nonprofit organization of the
generation that we are today. Therefore, it will be a great chance for me to give a critical outlook of
one of these nonprofit organizations. I will point out key issues in the United Nations Children's
Funds that is widely recognized (Sinuany–Stern & Sherman, 2014).
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)
It is a nonprofit organization under the United Nations that has its headquarters in New York City.
UNICEF was established way back on December 11, 1946, by the United Nations General
Assembly (Morris, 2015). The main aim why the United Nations General Assembly created the
organization was to provide emergency food, as well as healthcare to those children that had been
ruined by the Second World War. Ludwik Rajchman was the first individual to be the chairman of
the organization. Ludwik served as chairman of the organization for a period of five years from the
year 1946 to 1950 (Morris, 2015).
Initially, the organization was known as the

The Pros And Cons Of UNICEF
Unmistakably, innumerable world events have set the stage for a multitude of moments of peace,
liberty, and justice throughout the globe that have been long awaited for extensive periods of time.
The key formula of momentous changes throughout history have not only been political decisions,
but also the commonly associated aspect of warfare. Together, these often–chaotic melting pots of
policy and conflict have paved the way for ending extensive moments of injustice and hardship
while also toppling the authoritative rule of brute dictators such as Adolf Hitler. However, quite
commonly the long–fought pathways towards victory and sequential freedom leaves behind a long
tail of destruction and chaos often paid for in the cost of lives, limbs, damaged societies and post–
traumatic stress disorder. On the positive side, however, what these long–fought battles sometimes
give birth to are organizations and policies that emphasize the necessity of not only preserving
peace, but also aiding those commonly negatively impacted by those moments of disorder and
chaos. A great example of an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Four years later in 1950, the organization's mandate was extended in order to help address the
extended needs of children as well as women. Originally known as the United Nations International
Children Emergency Fund, the words "international" and "emergency" were later removed, however
the acronym stemming from the original full name was kept. "By 1953, UNICEF had become a
permanent part of the UN Systems which includes various subsidiaries and specialized organizations
and agencies. While also focusing on humanitarian relief, UNICEF also provides some

UNICEF is very experienced humanitarian and development agency which works globally for the

UNICEF has set Millenium development goals, which 189 countries have signed in September
2000. The goals reveal the extent importance of UNICEF's work. First goals are to eradicate
extreme poverty and hunger meaning in practice that the amount of people living less than one
dollar per day or suffer for hunger should halve between 1990 and 2015. Furthermore, primary
education should be ensured for all children, also for girls. Child mortality and maternal health are
also primary goals of UNICEF. There are also set goals to combat AIDS/HIV, malaria and other

The United Nations Relief And Rehabilitation...
In 1943, the United Nations created a relief organization called the United Nations Relief and
Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA). This organization was used to fight famine and disease
that was occurring in Europe after World War II. The UNRRA focused on bringing relief to
European civilians, and it was rendered unwelcome and disbanded after the Europe divided into two
zones: the West and East. However in 1946, there was a large demand for a relief organization, and
so the United Nations decided to constitute an emergency group focusing on aid for children.
UNICEF was created in 1946 to provide emergency food, clothing and healthcare to children in
countries that were destroyed during WWII. It was created to solve the food and medical crisis after
the War in the European countries involved and those that were devastated in the War. Eglantyne
Jebb, a British reformist, founded the Save the Children International Union, SCIU, which pressured
the United Nations to start a group that specifically worked with children suffering from the trauma
and aftermath of war. Also, U.S. army filmmakers created a film that shows the amount of
destruction war does and how much it affects children. This film raised $200 million for welfare
work, and so the UN proposed to use this money to provide relief to children in a new organization
called UNICEF. So, the Collective Action problem it intended to solve was that: After WWII,
UNICEF was created to provide food, clothing, and medical aid

The Effects Of Unicef On The World
The Causes and Effects of UNICEF on the World
Some of the main goals of UNICEF are Child Protection/Social Inclusion, Child Survival and
Education. Child Protection is a critical goal in the world. Girls and boys are sensitive to abuse
either by gender, race, or ethnic backgrounds. There is no discrimination in abuse, whether it be
mental or physical. The rate of abuse is higher for children who are disabled or are orphaned. Most
of these cases are rarely sought out, most kids are usually too scared to talk about what happened or
even tell someone they know about the crimes that are occurring. This is because of the fact that
most abuse is done by close family members or people they know. Sometimes, it even occurs in the
school or workplaces ("Child"). There are many countries in poverty around the world. The
UNICEF organization helps raise money to ensure the protection, safety, and education of children
in over 100 countries. Children with disabilities are usually not talked about, they are the most
ostracized group of children in society. They are not only not seen, but also not heard. There are
about 93 million children with disabilities in the world, and every each one goes through
discrimination/bullying due to their disability. These children are a lot less likely to go to school or
receive any medical help. These children do not have a voice. The cause of this is that people do not
want to take a disabled child seriously, resulting in disabled children all

Should Eleanor Roosevelt Become A Senator?
"One person can make a difference and everyone should try." –John F. Kennedy. During Eleanor's
life, she had a big impact on people. Adlai Stevenson, the UN ambassador for America at the time,
remembered her as, "the First Lady of the World." UNICEF needs a new spokesperson with
goodwill, after Alyssa Milano has stepped down. Eleanor Roosevelt understands that children need
an advocate. Some people might think that Nelson Mandela should be the spokesperson; but Eleanor
Roosevelt is a better candidate because she is hardworking, makes a difference, and she fights for
rights. Throughout Eleanor's life, she has worked very hard, this is one of the reasons why she
should become the spokesperson for UNICEF. During World War I, Eleanor was hardworking,

(Jacobs 93). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
UNICEF also fights for the same things Eleanor had fought for. Since Eleanor Roosevelt had good
experience in fighting for rights at the United Nations, she can be a great spokesperson for UNICEF.
Some people might still believe that Nelson Mandela should be the spokesperson for UNICEF,
because he fights for equal rights and is against segregation. However, Eleanor Roosevelt is the best
choice for the spokesperson of UNICEF because; she has more experience in being hardworking,
making a difference, and fighting for rights. From being hardworking in fighting for the rights of
people, Eleanor Roosevelt has made a difference in many people's lives. Eleanor and UNICEF stand
for similar things, good education, health care, equal rights, and many more great causes. In
becoming the spokesperson for UNICEF, Eleanor Roosevelt can change and make a difference in
many more lives. She has all of the characteristics and qualifications, to work for UNICEF. This is

There are environmental factors impact the spread of infectious diseases, and the main aspects are
water supply, hygiene services, food, and climate. An absence of safe water, a lack of sanitation
facilities, loss of living situations, and insecure food would cause suffering or possible death.
Instances of epidemics are Obesity, HIV, Cholera, and Malaria (Peterson, 2002). Malaria is caused
by parasites, which are organisms live on or in a host, and get food from the same host, and the main
affection come along by mosquitoes. Additionally, not all type of mosquitoes can cause that transfer
of bugs to people of bite them. Only one type of female mosquitoes called Anopheles mosquitoes,
which transmit parasite called Plasmodium from infected people due to blood needed to grow their
eggs (WHO, 2015). These parasites live and grow inside the mosquito 's salivary glands. Moreover,
when a mosquito goes for the next bite, the parasite injected into another human blood as a second
host. The growth of the parasite multiply quickly at the infected human liver, and then moved back
to the red blood cells. In a short period, approximate one or two weeks some of the malaria
symptoms are starting to illustrate like vomiting, headache, and fever. At that situation, patients
should be treated rapidly with actual medicines, or that massive spread of the parasites can destroy
the red blood cells, which cause blocking the

communication meant to address this problem and provide long term solution. Literature Review:
The topic of communication is very broad and unique. Communication in its simplest context is
defined as the transfer of "information" from a sender to a receiver with recourse of "feedback."
This involves the use of a medium for transferring information that could comprise F2F medium: –
direct voice to ear transfer of information; electronic medias– telephones, computers, radios,
televisions, cell–phones, faxes, and text messages; or the print media: – newspapers, journals,
books, manual written reports, etc. or even the use of signs/sounds: – beating of drums in some
African societal settings, sign language used by the deaf and dump. Drum beating communication
was recently seen in a village setting in Liberia, 31 July 2010, during a visit along a friend aspiring
to for the seat or Representative in the Liberian politics. The Head of the village summoned the
villagers from far and nearby beating of drums. One elder I spoke to told me that when the drum is
sounded, they are able to understand the specific purpose of the summoned gathering by specific
beating tones, pitch and style. Communication can be as simple, yet complex in its use depending on

International Adoption Analysis
Differing Viewpoints
The process of International Adoption raises passionate emotions and arguments on different factors
involving the process. Although organizations and groups are present in support of mainly the
proponent side, some are swayed by policies involved. Bethany Christian Services believes in
performing international adoptions as long as they follow the U.S policy involving court's consent
and the foreign countries policy. Whereas UNICEF will only perform international adoptions if the
process is done through the Hague Convention.
One group that clearly represents the common mission of International Adoption is Bethany
Christian Services (BCS). Through their ministries they aid to foreign children in over eighty
locations (www.buildingyourfamily.com, 1998–2016). With their large amount of locations they are
able to reach children and families all over the country, not only physically but emotionally as well.
Bethany Christian Services states, "We feel it is our job to provide ministries for orphans and
vulnerable children" (www.buildingyourfamily.com, 1998–2016). Because of their stance, they have
taken many actions towards this law. Those actions being: providing ministry, adoption services,
pregnancy and family counseling, foster care programs, refugee services, orphan care, and an
infertility ministry called "Stepping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The EFA plan for 2004 to 2015 is now on. The National Project on Street Children provides
educational assistance to street children through a network of government, non–government, and
community organizations. Regardless of this progress, two major challenges remain, formal and
non–formal schools need to adjust their educational system to cater to children with irregular
schedules and learning capacities, and facilities need to be closer to where disadvantaged children
reside and work.
UNCHS (2000) 4 : There are two groups of street children. The first group is 'Children of the street',
which refers to children who are homeless, and streets in urban areas are their source of livelihood,
where they sleep and live. The second group is 'Children on the street', who work and live on the
streets in the daytime but return back home at night where they sleep, although some of them sleep
occasionally on the streets.
Patel, 1990; Le Roux and Smith, 1998; Lugalla and Mbwambo, 1999 5 : There are two main causes
of the phenomenon of street children. The first is the economic stress and poor conditions that
families face due to industrialization and urbanization. The second cause is changes in the traditional

Ethos of Feed the Children

where we could analyze ethos and provide how each website appealed to the audience. The two web
sites that were chosen for this group project are, "UNICEF" and "Feed the Children". We chose
these two websites since these are charitable websites with good moral, good will and practices
which provide great ethos. There were several differences in design and structure between the two
websites which will be described in the following paragraphs.

The "In the News" link sends you to a page full of news articles where the "Feed the Children"
organization has been involved in the community. Every webpage is informative, whether its
statistics, their presence in the news, or the several ways on how you can be involved. But it does
not really stand out or differ from other charitable organizations. The website also doesn't provide
statements from families whom they've helped. Donors want to see that they've made a difference in
someone's life. A "thank you" video clip or photo of an assisted family or school group would
probably have satisfied this issue and made this organization more desirable to participate in. It
provides enough evidence for credibility from their existence in the news and links to their financial
statements. It seems like a legit charitable organization with a good purpose but they also provide
similar ethos as displayed in other websites, which in effect doesn't necessarily derive an appeal to
join this particular organization.
Although UNICEF and Feed the Children both aim to help underprivileged children with food and
water. UNICEF focuses to help on a global level with other issues such as illnesses like HIV/AIDS,
child protection, education and gender equality. Feed the Children concentrates mainly on providing
food and water. Between both websites, the UNICEF presents itself to be more well–known because
of all their assistance programs.

Unicef Case Analysis
Why do organisations like UNICEF need branding? i. UNICEF and its national committees were
facing increased competition, particularly from child sponsor organizations such as Save the
Children and World Vision. These organizations raised more money than UNICEF and UNICEF
also failed in forging corporate ties. This may be also because since it was thought to be related UN
people considered it to be rich. ii. UNICEF got the major chunk of its income from voluntary
contribution; however the regular sources of income seem to be shrinking which has made the
management worried. Greeting card is also giving less net revenue. Thus the resources seem to be
drying. iii. Research showed that while the UNICEF image was positive, the ... Show more content

Similar to other bureaucratic organisations it was thought to be cumbersome. The cynicism
associated with UN was also affecting UNICEF to some extent. ii. The use of number of logos,
emblems and strap lines in different countries by UNICEF is creating a lot of problem in projecting
one single global image for the organisation which is creating a lot of confusion among the people.
iii. The awareness about UNICEF was very shallow in the public as, though the name was well
known people did not know about its functions. iv. The brand profile of UNICEF consisted of both
rational and emotional value; however it could not focus on the emotional part of it. v. One major
challenge that the management at UNESCO is facing is that of aging as most of its volunteers are
over 50 years of age. This has resulted in the formation of a less dynamic image and which is very
difficult to get rid of.
What should protagonist do?
Ans: The protagonist should look into the strengths and weaknesses of the organization. Should look
carefully as what people perceive the organization and what the organization wants the people to
feel about the organization. When this "gap" is analysed then, she should find out the alternatives
which can fill this gap and bring about desired results. The proposed recommendations can be: i.
Maintaining a single logo and brand across all committees, no further alteration by any

Help Kids Get Education

  • 1. Get Our Kids In School Research Paper Kennedy Cash English I Honors 3 23 March 2016 Get Our Kids in School It is dawn in the Ugandan village. Bali awakens to the sound of her little brother stirring in his sleep. She gets up and coos in his ear little sounds of endearment hoping to lull him back into a placid slumber. Fortunately she is successful and her little brother continues his rhythmic snores, but Bali does not get to continue resting. She must collect water, stone and wood; she must prepare clean dishes and clothes. She must pound cassava root and collect fish; she must prepare food for her family. By the time she finishes, it is 3:30 in the afternoon and she is enervated. Her juvenile stature is much too frail for the amount of work expected of her, but it must be done. Though Bali is six years old and should be attending primary school, she can not because she has to survive. Not many children, especially in developing countries, have the opportunity to go to school. However just because the children are immersed with chores, does not mean it is morally correct to neglect their right to education. Limited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fifty nine million adolescents are being rejected their right to education (Equitable Access n.pag). Whether the reason is because they are overwhelmed with chores or because the closest school is across the river and through the woods, kids between the ages of five and nine are not learning how to read or solve an addition problem. In Mexico, girls, specifically, are being denied their right to education. According to "Access to Elementary Education for Indigenous Girls", "...women are forced to quit school at very early ages..." (De Guevara n.pag). These women do not lack the physical access to education, because there are schools available to them. However, they are denied the actual right to education because they are kept at home to do ... • 3. Falta Baby Thesis Imagine having your husband killed during the night, where all you other kids and a pregnant you are sleeping, that is what happened to Falta. The group of Boko Haram took the live of her husband while she was three months pregnant. Falta and her whole family has been sleeping in the forest without barely any essential items they need to survive. After four months without her husband, Falta had a baby. Her delivery was not like regular delivery, she didn't have any of the basic supplies needed to have a good delivery. I can not even picture or envision having a life like hers, the pain she must have felt having that baby in the unlikely place or a forest. Maita, her little baby became dangerously malnourished from the limited amount of milk she was receiving from Falta. After going to a specialized clinic, Falta and her baby are recovering from the hard effects of violence and hunger in their home of Nigeria (Dwyer). There are millions like Falta who suffer from their underdeveloped country and are trying to have at least one more breath. It may seem dramatic as I say ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not in a bad way however, in so many ways they want to save the lives of kids who need it so badly. In the first place, they want everybody to recognize that children need rights like every other person in this world. Many around the world are living in poverty and are experiencing lack of fairness in the world. They want children to be shielded from the appalling effects from war, inequality, malnutrition and not by some of the kids of the world, they want to aid every single person they reach. A goal that this whole organization was made for was to relieve the pain and suffering of the children around the world. That there are people in this world that want to help them with their ... • 5. UNICEF Challenges Introduction Alfred Nobel once said, "If you could only understand that we can help a human being without any ulterior motive." Mr Nobels words echos a sentiment of the the Declaration of the Rights of the Child or by another name, the Geneva Declaration of the Rights of children. It was adopted by the United Nations in 1959. This worthy goal to protect children must be carried by people that can fulfill that purpose and reach into the world, where many need help. UNICEF is that program. (UNCF) UNICEF or United Nations Internationals Children Emergency Fund has a duty to help make the world a better place. It is vital to understand what UNICEF is, its origins, the type of problems they face and how they help. It is also essential to look at challenges they have and how they can improve as an organization. History of UNICEF UNICEF had its origins in 1946. It was 3 men who played an essential role, Former President Herbert Hoover, Maurice Pate, an American business man, later the first executive director of UNICEF. Ludwik Rajchman, an advocate for global health. By 1947, Pate set up an office in D.C. He assembled a team and built networks in Europe and recruited staff from the League of Nations. It took only 8 months to get approval for UNICEF to support programs for Albania,Austria, China, Finland and a few others . (Jolly, 12) Its first program focused on establishing feeding programs and provided 4.5 million children a daily meal in 30,000 locations in 12 countries. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Marketing Strategies Of The United Nations Children 's... 1.0 Introduction A Non–profit Organisation (NPO) is an establishment that uses its funding for the pursuit of a specific purpose such as for a charitable cause (Lorette, 2015). It is different from a for–profit organisation as its objective is to provide greater good to the society rather than to maximise the wealth of its stakeholders. The surplus revenues of an NPO are used for either its expansion, self– preservation or plans and no part of the profit is distributed to its members. NPOs are increasingly starting to operate like traditional business organisations as strategic planning and marketing is imperative for their survival. NPOs must market themselves in order to generate funding required to meet their organisational objectives. It is imperative for an NPO to brand itself as many companies choose to affiliate themselves with an NPO based on its reputation and perception. This also gives them a competitive advantage. This essay aims to explore the marketing strategies of The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and American Red Cross. The essay will further compare the two by analysing its marketing efforts and then drawing managerial inferences for the same. 2.0 Organisational Overview 2.1 UNICEF 2.1.1 Company Profile UNICEF was created by the United Nations General Assembly to provide relief for the children victimized by World War II and was originally known as the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund. • 9. United Nations International Children 's Emergency Fund Essay Food and Nutrition Mary Carnahan HA 304: Global Health Care Systems November 8, 2016 Introduction In this paper I'm going explore "United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF)" and what they do to provide food and nutrition to people in developing countries. Also in this paper I will be exploring "Community food banks" and what they do to provide food and nutrition to people in need in the U.S. There is a statement in our text that obesity results from over nutrition. Is this always true? Is it possible to be obese and lack adequate nutrition? Which foods contribute most to obesity? How nutritious are those foods? United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) What they do to provide food and nutrition to people in developing countries UNICEF was created in 1946 to provide relief to children in countries devastated by World War II. After 1950 the fund directed its efforts toward general programs for the improvement of children's welfare, particularly in less–developed countries and in various emergency situations. The organization's broader mission was reflected in the name it adopted in 1953, the United Nations Children's Fund. UNICEF was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1965. "UNICEF does whatever it takes to save and protect the world 's most vulnerable children. Forty years ago, UNICEF figured out that promoting simple, low–cost interventions like hand washing and breastfeeding could save millions of lives. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although most people consider her a style icon, she is also recognized as the quintessence of volunteering. After her illustrious stardom, Audrey devoted her life to what she considered the pinnacle of her career volunteering at UNICEF. • 13. Role of UNICEF and the International Labour Organization... Introduction This paper deals with the role of transnational actors like UNICEF and the International Labour Organization (ILO) in the working children's movement. It examines the role of development communication in empowering working children, and its impact on the movement. The paper begins with a brief introduction to development, linking it with issues concerning working children. It then goes into a brief overview of UNICEF and the ILO, and talks about the role of each in the international working children's movement. It evaluates one program executed by each of the organizations in dealing with a development situation, in terms of intent and purpose, policies and procedures, obstacles faced, and the outcome of each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Development can be defined as a wide participatory process of social change in a society intended to bring about both social and material advancement including greater equality, freedom and other valued qualities for the majority of the people through gaining greater control over their environment (Everett Rogers, 1976, Moemeka, Pg.8). I believe that development needs to start at the grassroots, and it needs to begin with children. This is not to say that this is the only kind of development that needs to take place, but this is the best kind of development for the future, as it is a fresh learning process vs. an 'undoing old methods and re–learning' process. Issues concerning children therefore need to be addressed immediately. Child labour is one of the primary concerns in developing countries. Child labour has been defined by the ILO as all economic activities carried out by persons less than 15 years of age (regardless of occupational status, wage–earners, own– account workers, unpaid family workers etc.) Child labour is illegal in most countries, especially bonded labour as well as those situations which involve children working in dangerous and hazardous environments. Children are often engaged in work that is detrimental to their emotional, psychological as well as physical well being, as in the case of prostitution. This is one of Eleanor Roosevelt's famous quotes that demonstrates her character, she believes that women are powerful people who are more capable of things than they are portrayed to be. Eleanor is one of the most influential woman in history, she believes in equal rights for all individuals. Therefore she should be the spokesperson for UNICEF. "UNICEF is a company that works in 190 countries and territories to save children's lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential." UNICEF looks for people like Eleanor. • 17. Like Us And We Ll Vaccinate Zero Children UNICEF, or the United Nations Children's Fund, is an agency that aims to support the health and education of children and mothers all over the world. The organization works to promote the rights and well being of every child; "we advocate for measures to give children the best start in life, because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person's future" (UNICEF). UNICEF works to help citizens become involved by spreading awareness and through donating to a worthy cause–they implement a number of programs to help defend children's rights, they advocate their organization by actively posting on social me–dia sites, and they use short but sweet campaigns to appeal to passerby's everywhere–the or–ganization enlightens ... For instance, on the in–troduction page of their main website, UNICEF states "Today's problems of poverty and vio– lence will never subside unless we invest in the physical, mental and emotional development of the next generation" (UNICEF). This statement appeals to a specific audience–that of our pre–sent society. The excerpt highlights the importance of investing in the next generation, some–thing that only society's current members can act upon. UNICEF manifests their advertisement in a way that promotes their agency with substance, it presents each member of the audience with a chance to act. In fact, the organization even has a group devoted to this specific idea–the UNICEF Next Generation. "UNICEF Next Generation is a group of young leaders, entrepre–neurs and innovators in their 20s and 30s who commit their resources, resolve and enthusiasm toward supporting UNICEF's lifesaving work. Members of this group study issues affecting chil–dren all over the world and select certain UNICEF projects to support through education, advo–cacy, skill sharing/remote volunteering and fundraising. • 19. Pros And Cons Of The United Nations Children's Fund The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is an international organization present in 190 countries (Unicef, n.d.). It is an agency focused on the area of maternal and child health. Recently, the organization is providing fresh water and food for mothers and children, education for mothers and girls, and immunization programs for children (Unicef, n.d.). The advantages for this program are the benefits to the education and health of the women and children, but the disadvantages are ability to retrieve funds all the time, and providing care to everyone. Unicef : A Humanitarian And Development Agency About UNICEF UNICEF is a leading humanitarian and development agency that works all over the world mainly for the rights of children, but also those of women too. They are a united nations program that primarily provides assistance to children and women in developing countries all over the world. Starting with safe shelter, nutrition, protection from disasters, prenatal care, clean water, healthcare, sanitation and education. Needs and Challenges They are often times the first responders whenever disaster hits those countries. UNICEF sends in a team of people who begin to provide the women and children with emergency and medical help if it is needed. Developing countries have fragile if any communication infrastructures. Internet and phone networks can be very slow and be subject to failure from power outages and weather, which includes the occurrence of natural disasters. • 23. Persuasive Essay On World Hunger World hunger is on the rise since the turn of the century. Many people overlook world hunger because there are many organizations supporting the cause. Awareness has been brought towards the cause but surprisingly the number still keeps going up. "In 2016, the number of chronically undernourished people reached 815 million, up 38 million from the previous year" (McVeigh, K). Having 11% of the world's population be undernourished is a serious problem that many people are not aware of. Even though there is a campaign to end world hunger by 2030 it will be impossible to achieve if people don't start to help. UNICEF has recognized this and has launched it's own world hunger campaign that has inspired many to make a difference. "There are 795 million people in the world that do not posses the nutritional necessities to live a healthy life" (World Hunger Statistics). Furthermore, one in seven people on Earth are hungry. It is just not hunger that affects so many people in the world, but also lack of clean water. UNICEF understands this issue and has conducted its own research. • 25. UNICEF In The 1950's Early 1950s, UNICEF's funds received contributions from 47 governments, a significant increase from 4 years ago when it first started. UNICEF launched the program Trick–or–Treat for UNICEF, mobilizing children to help children. The program is continuing until the present. The only difference between them is many kids lived in other countries where their low living condition due to war, poverty, natural disasters make it hard for them to survive. The kids in those countries cannot afford having Halloween, nor candy what they need and want. American kids go door to door, calling out "Trick–or–treat for UNICEF," and collecting donations for children in the other countries. The programs have raised more than $175 million. As UNICEF had proved its significance in responding to the children's needs, the UN recognized the organization's power in altering children's lives. • 27. The Lack Of Education And Global Inequalities In Kenya Global inequalities are the things that society identifies as not equal and unfair. There are many inequalities in Kenya including income, life expectancy, education, water, gender and poverty inequalities. Although these are negative problems, opportunities in Kenya have shown improvement as people are starting to make a difference by sending more people to school and giving children education they need and also food and water for people to survive. Amnesty International and Unicef are all apart of the world trying to make a difference. Amnesty International is the world's largest and most–respected human rights organisation. Amnesty campaigns against abuse of human rights around the world. The other NGO that I have chose is UNICEF who promotes the rights and wellbeing of every child in the world. The lack of opportunities is a struggle in Kenya for women and children as they are a very poor country and can't afford food and education for their community. The people that are affected by this are women and children who are treated differently. Some of the many inequalities for women are that they are paid less than men, this is due to gender inequality and discrimination against women. It has scientifically shown that women are earning what men were paid in 2006 and will take another 118 years for women to be equally paid the same as men. Another inequality for women in Kenya is that they are less educated than men, this is evident as they have less access to education, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Rhetorical Analysis Of Unicef 's Campaign For Children UNICEF created a campaign for children that need a family; hence, the title, Every Child Needs a Family due to the increasing number of children without families. These children lack a caring and loving family; therefore, in order to decrease the number of children without a family, UNICEF brilliantly put together the advertisement that touches the heart of those who look at it. The image seems to be taken at a storefront with a male and a female mannequin. Perhaps, since the mannequins look like the ideal parents, the child decides to hold the mannequins ' hands. The construction of this advertisement incorporated the use of rhetorical strategies such as a contemporary style environment, in order to enhance the rhetorical situation. The rhetorical situation then creates a more effective approach due to the display of affection that tries to inform its audience about the increase of children that needs a family and people should make a difference by helping out in any way. The rhetorical strategies incorporated into the advertisement played an enormous role in its effectiveness. The author, UNICEF, has a large influence due to its global recognition as an organization that works for children in over 190 countries. For this particular audience, UNICEF is targeting adults, which leads to the purpose. UNICEF targets adults so that the adults will be more likely to adopt a child in need. Eleanor Roosevelt, the U.S. delegate to the UN argued that UNICEF was a temporary group to help children after war and not that it's over the work should be delegated to other permanent UN organizations. (Explained in more detail) Pakistan's delegate to the UN, Ahmed Shah Bokhari, argued against Roosevelt in saying that the images of European children after the war are the realities of children living in other regions every day. In 1950, it was agreed that UNICEF's charter would be renewed for another 3 years, and then in 1953, Roosevelt argued to make the organization permanent. It then decided to drop the words 'international' and 'emergency' from its name, so its title then became the United Nations Children 's Fund yet keeping its full acronym as UNICEF. In the 1950s, UNICEF spiraled into a set of mass campaigns of epidemic diseases such as tuberculosis, yaws, trachoma, leprosy and malaria; this decade was knows as the "Era of Mass Disease Campaign". UNICEF worked to complement and help the World Health Organization, WHO. They worked with each disease independently depending on the incredibly high amount of cases of each illness in each region. • 43. Liberalism Vs. Realism Essay Liberalism vs. Realism In a world where the drive for power and the will to dominate are held to be fundamental aspects of human nature as the Classical Realists would argue, the necessity for International Organizations cannot be dismissed as some liberalists argue. According to Iriye 2002, IGO's consists of institutions that come into existence through formal agreements among nations and represent their corresponding governments (Iriye 2002, Pg. 12–14). With that in mind, some liberalists argue that joining international organizations and institutions like the United Nations socializes some leaders so that their motivations are more benign (Dunne 2011, Pg. 103). I am convinced to a certain extent with this idea as I feel that even though classical realists argue that every man has within him the desire to rule or the desire for power (Dunne and Schmidt 2011, Pg. 90). When several leaders come together all from different IR theoretical backgrounds (liberalists, realists, constructivists) each decision they make comes collectively thus not leaving too much room for their individual biases based on their theoretical perspectives to impact important international relations issues "negatively". Although I highly doubt if anything can be done to control the human desire for power accumulation as a classical realist would say, a part of the psyche of man, I do believe the liberalists argument to be of substance. Because IGO's result in socialization, they also create a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction In 2006, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO) 1 published the report, Pneumonia: The forgotten killer of children which identified pneumonia as one of the world's leading causes of childhood mortality accounting for one in five under–five deaths. The fourth Millennium Development Goal (MDG) from the 2000 summit is to reduce under–five mortality rate by two–thirds by 20151. With its significant contribution to under–five mortality, reduction of the childhood pneumonia mortality is essential to achieving this goal. Over the last two decades there has been significant progress in reduction of childhood pneumonia deaths with 58% less deaths occurring globally in 20132. However, pneumonia still accounts for about 19% of childhood under–five deaths and contributes significantly to morbidity and disability among children globally. Majority of these pneumonia–related deaths occur in developing countries and are concentrated in a few countries1,2. In 2013, over half of the under–five pneumonia deaths occurred in 10 countries located in sub–Saharan Africa, South Asia and South– east Asia1,2. The Pros And Cons Of UNICEF Unmistakably, innumerable world events have set the stage for a multitude of moments of peace, liberty, and justice throughout the globe that have been long awaited for extensive periods of time. This organization was used to fight famine and disease that was occurring in Europe after World War II. The UNRRA focused on bringing relief to European civilians, and it was rendered unwelcome and disbanded after the Europe divided into two zones: the West and East. However in 1946, there was a large demand for a relief organization, and so the United Nations decided to constitute an emergency group focusing on aid for children. UNICEF was created in 1946 to provide emergency food, clothing and healthcare to children in countries that were destroyed during WWII. It was created to solve the food and medical crisis after the War in the European countries involved and those that were devastated in the War. Eglantyne Jebb, a British reformist, founded the Save the Children International Union, SCIU, which pressured the United Nations to start a group that specifically worked with children suffering from the trauma and aftermath of war. Also, U.S. army filmmakers created a film that shows the amount of destruction war does and how much it affects children. This film raised $200 million for welfare work, and so the UN proposed to use this money to provide relief to children in a new organization called UNICEF. • 59. The Effects Of Unicef On The World The Causes and Effects of UNICEF on the World Some of the main goals of UNICEF are Child Protection/Social Inclusion, Child Survival and Education. Child Protection is a critical goal in the world. Girls and boys are sensitive to abuse either by gender, race, or ethnic backgrounds. There is no discrimination in abuse, whether it be mental or physical. The rate of abuse is higher for children who are disabled or are orphaned. Most of these cases are rarely sought out, most kids are usually too scared to talk about what happened or even tell someone they know about the crimes that are occurring. This is because of the fact that most abuse is done by close family members or people they know. Sometimes, it even occurs in the school or workplaces ("Child"). There are many countries in poverty around the world. The UNICEF organization helps raise money to ensure the protection, safety, and education of children in over 100 countries. Children with disabilities are usually not talked about, they are the most ostracized group of children in society. They are not only not seen, but also not heard. There are about 93 million children with disabilities in the world, and every each one goes through discrimination/bullying due to their disability. Moreover, there is also negative press in the print and electronic Medias without proper information base. The focused purpose of this proposal is to conduct research on all aspect of effective communication meant to address this problem and provide long term solution. Literature Review: The topic of communication is very broad and unique. Communication in its simplest context is defined as the transfer of "information" from a sender to a receiver with recourse of "feedback." This involves the use of a medium for transferring information that could comprise F2F medium: – direct voice to ear transfer of information; electronic medias– telephones, computers, radios, televisions, cell–phones, faxes, and text messages; or the print media: – newspapers, journals, books, manual written reports, etc. or even the use of signs/sounds: – beating of drums in some African societal settings, sign language used by the deaf and dump. Drum beating communication was recently seen in a village setting in Liberia, 31 July 2010, during a visit along a friend aspiring to for the seat or Representative in the Liberian politics. The Head of the village summoned the villagers from far and nearby beating of drums. One elder I spoke to told me that when the drum is sounded, they are able to understand the specific purpose of the summoned gathering by specific beating tones, pitch and style. • 70. The United Nations Essay The United Nations All over the world, soldiers in the UN's blue helmets or hats have risked their lives trying to stop wars. In 1988 they received one of the worlds highest honors, the Nobel Peace Prize. Canadians were proud, because their soldiers and aircrew had shared in almost every UN peacekeeping mission since 1948.      The United Nations is an international organization that consists of 184 nations. They have joined together to prevent war, promote peace security and social progress, and also to develop friendly relations among nations around the world.      The UN has many different agencies and programs. • 72. International Adoption Analysis Differing Viewpoints The process of International Adoption raises passionate emotions and arguments on different factors involving the process. Although organizations and groups are present in support of mainly the proponent side, some are swayed by policies involved. Bethany Christian Services believes in performing international adoptions as long as they follow the U.S policy involving court's consent and the foreign countries policy. Whereas UNICEF will only perform international adoptions if the process is done through the Hague Convention. One group that clearly represents the common mission of International Adoption is Bethany Christian Services (BCS). Through their ministries they aid to foreign children in over eighty locations (www.buildingyourfamily.com, 1998–2016). With their large amount of locations they are able to reach children and families all over the country, not only physically but emotionally as well. Bethany Christian Services states, "We feel it is our job to provide ministries for orphans and vulnerable children" (www.buildingyourfamily.com, 1998–2016). Because of their stance, they have taken many actions towards this law. Those actions being: providing ministry, adoption services, pregnancy and family counseling, foster care programs, refugee services, orphan care, and an infertility ministry called "Stepping ... Title: An Ethnographic Study about the Homeless Youth in the Philippines Target Group: Street Children ETHNOGRAPHIC STUDY A requirement in Society and Culture GAMALIEL VALENCIA Submitted by: Belarmino, Mary Grace S. INTRODUCTION: I chose to study the life and behaviors of the street children on the busy road of Balibago Complex at Sta. Rosa Laguna, to gain a better understanding of their conditions. The main purpose of this study is to discover how they manage to live in a very dangerous condition, as well as the perception of trust, hostility, and aggression among peers and the authority. It also aims to find out their lives regarding their families, if they have one and why they decided to run away from them. Why do they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The EFA plan for 2004 to 2015 is now on. The National Project on Street Children provides educational assistance to street children through a network of government, non–government, and community organizations. Regardless of this progress, two major challenges remain, formal and non–formal schools need to adjust their educational system to cater to children with irregular schedules and learning capacities, and facilities need to be closer to where disadvantaged children reside and work. UNCHS (2000) 4 : There are two groups of street children. The first group is 'Children of the street', which refers to children who are homeless, and streets in urban areas are their source of livelihood, where they sleep and live. The second group is 'Children on the street', who work and live on the streets in the daytime but return back home at night where they sleep, although some of them sleep occasionally on the streets. Patel, 1990; Le Roux and Smith, 1998; Lugalla and Mbwambo, 1999 5 : There are two main causes of the phenomenon of street children. The first is the economic stress and poor conditions that families face due to industrialization and urbanization. The second cause is changes in the traditional family structure, especially when women became ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Ethos of Feed the Children Melissa Cannon Ethos Project For Business communication class we were given the assignment of choosing two websites that where we could analyze ethos and provide how each website appealed to the audience. The two web sites that were chosen for this group project are, "UNICEF" and "Feed the Children". We chose these two websites since these are charitable websites with good moral, good will and practices which provide great ethos. There were several differences in design and structure between the two websites which will be described in the following paragraphs. On the web site for UNICEF, this organization is for the assistance to aide countries around the world. They distribute food, supplies, medicine to villages in foreign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The "In the News" link sends you to a page full of news articles where the "Feed the Children" organization has been involved in the community. Every webpage is informative, whether its statistics, their presence in the news, or the several ways on how you can be involved. But it does not really stand out or differ from other charitable organizations. The website also doesn't provide statements from families whom they've helped. Donors want to see that they've made a difference in someone's life. A "thank you" video clip or photo of an assisted family or school group would probably have satisfied this issue and made this organization more desirable to participate in. It provides enough evidence for credibility from their existence in the news and links to their financial statements. It seems like a legit charitable organization with a good purpose but they also provide similar ethos as displayed in other websites, which in effect doesn't necessarily derive an appeal to join this particular organization. Although UNICEF and Feed the Children both aim to help underprivileged children with food and water. UNICEF focuses to help on a global level with other issues such as illnesses like HIV/AIDS, child protection, education and gender equality. Feed the Children concentrates mainly on providing food and water. Between both websites, the UNICEF presents itself to be more well–known because of all their assistance programs. One feature that the UNICEF site ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. Unicef Case Analysis Why do organisations like UNICEF need branding? i. UNICEF and its national committees were facing increased competition, particularly from child sponsor organizations such as Save the Children and World Vision. These organizations raised more money than UNICEF and UNICEF also failed in forging corporate ties. This may be also because since it was thought to be related UN people considered it to be rich. ii. UNICEF got the major chunk of its income from voluntary contribution; however the regular sources of income seem to be shrinking which has made the management worried. Greeting card is also giving less net revenue. Thus the resources seem to be drying. iii. Research showed that while the UNICEF image was positive, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar to other bureaucratic organisations it was thought to be cumbersome. The cynicism associated with UN was also affecting UNICEF to some extent. ii. The use of number of logos, emblems and strap lines in different countries by UNICEF is creating a lot of problem in projecting one single global image for the organisation which is creating a lot of confusion among the people. iii. The awareness about UNICEF was very shallow in the public as, though the name was well known people did not know about its functions. iv. The brand profile of UNICEF consisted of both rational and emotional value; however it could not focus on the emotional part of it. v. One major challenge that the management at UNESCO is facing is that of aging as most of its volunteers are over 50 years of age. This has resulted in the formation of a less dynamic image and which is very difficult to get rid of. What should protagonist do? Ans: The protagonist should look into the strengths and weaknesses of the organization. Should look carefully as what people perceive the organization and what the organization wants the people to feel about the organization. When this "gap" is analysed then, she should find out the alternatives which can fill this gap and bring about desired results. The proposed recommendations can be: i. Maintaining a single logo and brand across all committees, no further alteration by any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
