Genocide In Everyday Life
When you think of everyday life you think of the same simple routine you go thought in your everyday life. Get up, get ready for/ work school,
head home, eat your dinner, and head to sleep only to get up and do the same exact thing for the rest of the week. This same thing could be
considered the same as Nazi death/ work camps yet the routine being much more, harsh and spirit breaking than the normal every day vanilla
lifestyle you live. Anything was better than death camps. Genocide, lots of it happened during world war two, be it the war its self or the dastardly
camps known as death camps killing millions of people with Jewish heritage in their veins, not to mention many other people as well, like the
disabled, polish, gypsies, and many more. The people who Hitler didn't like or went against him and his ways were put to death.... Show more content

The life of a prisoner in a death camp was a hard one, having very little to call your own. Sleeping on straw, eating disgusting food, standing
attention for hours, and working with your cold dead hands. The routine was a hard spirit breaking one. Not to mention the dusting food the
Kapo's tried to pass off as food. It was probably spoiled and rotten. It was most likely to get a lot of prisoner's sick form how less they got to eat
and what condition the food was in. Despite that all being said it's suppressing and very interesting what went on in death camps from good to bad
and quirky to surprisingly normal. Maybe if concentration camps didn't exist maybe World War 2 wouldn't of happened, but that's highly unlikely to
happen as Hitler was already invading most of Europe at the time so he had to be stopped. But at least the camps were taken over and the prisoners

Leadership Qualities Of Fice Manager Essay
Unfortunately, at my current place of work I have experienced numerous negative leadership traits. The owner is fantastic but the office manager
he has placed in power is less than agreeable. The office manager lacks the appropriate leadership skills because he is a very negative individual.
He consistently speaks unkindly to employees, never follows through, is very lazy and is quite frankly unknowledgeable. He does not know how to
lead people but only how to shove them toward the ground. He lacks basic communication skills, attacks before asking questions and never places his
employees' needs before his own. He does not understand the underlying link between happiness and productivity (p. 88). Thus, most employees at my
office would speak negatively about their experience in the office. However, I also have fatal leadership flaws. I get too emotional when frustrated. I do
not express this with tears or sadden but rather a bad attitude. It is a flaw that I am continuously working on. I unfortunately wear my emotions on my
sleeves. Thus, when I am unhappy often times everyone knows it and this is not a good thing.
Fortunately, I have exhibited good leadership before at work. I am a problem solver and an encourager. When we facing difficulties at with a
particular project and employees start to feel down, I reaffirm their great work ethic on a personal level. Our accounts were all getting disapproved,
Facebook was flagging everything for no apparent reason. Everyone was

The Importance Of Origin Stories
On some levels, origin stories are just that, stories. Growing up, whenever I read origin stories or myths, they seemed extremely unrealistic and I
always questioned whether they were actually true or just make belief. As I became older, I began to develop a better understanding of things, and
when I reread those stories, I realized that there was a much bigger picture behind every story. Origin stories are essentially traditional tales, usually
ones that concern the early history of people, or that explain some natural or social phenomenon. A lot of thetime origin stories have animals or
objects depicting humans, or have some sort supernatural activities going on which makes the stories seem unrealistic, but behind all of that I
was always able to find some sort of message or explanation that proved to be very useful. Some origin stories would explain how our ancestors
came to be, others would include a moral but most importantly, every story was like a window, a window that allowed us to get a better
comprehension of our past. A big question that is always being asked is "Should origin stories be encouraged to people"? My answer is yes. Yes we
should encourage origin stories because they teach us valuable life lessons, solidify and shape our cultures, and give us a deeper understanding of our
past.
Life lessons are tremendously important. Many say that in order to learn a life lesson, you must live through one. They are not wrong, but there is a
much easier way to

Stereotypes In Everyday Life
From one day to the next, a traumatic experience can detrimentally change one's life, and just like that, a person's daily life can dramatically
change. Stereotypes are pictures that people get from a certain type of group that can be judged and can be exaggerated to a point where opinions
tend to get out of hand. People live in a world where people judge others from top to bottom, when one sees others living their life in a way
differently than they would live theirs, causes them to judge for the way the different people live. My personal experience has definitely made me a
stronger person in hundreds of ways. In the summer of 2014, my grandmother was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. A couple months later on, she
then lost the ability to swallow food through her mouth. It was a ton to take in and there was nothing one could do, ... Show more content on

Stereotypes are cognitions or beliefs that people make. Stereotypes are used to categorize a group of people based on their appearance. Yes,
stereotypes may be based on truths, yet tend to be quite exaggerated. Stereotypes can be a widely believed picture of what people have, looking at the
person and wanting to judge. Not all stereotypes are negative. Some may be bad, or (some) may be about good things that people assume, yet not
know. Misconceptions are used based on untruths or assumptions someone makes and also opinions that are wrong that people tend to make from false
impressions, or faulty understandings. Misconceptions are ideas and beliefs individuals have that are incorrect and have false information, or the

My Everyday Life
In our everyday life we encounter different relationships: friends, best friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, family, and other people. We tend to want
real friends that are caring and all that. I want to know when passing in our everyday life, how do you know what you are doing is right or wrong
especially in relationships? Just keep in mind "passing" means that you are not being who you actually are. Throughout our lives, we tend to have
many best friends or friends. That friend is inclined to care for you and be there for you, right? After time has passed, at the end of the day you don't
know if they are true friends or not? What are true friends? That friend was so close to you, but after a while had drifted away or maybe because steh...

Everyday Macanese Life
Life of Everyday Macanese– Macau the Imaginary City 1557– present by Jonathan Porter is the fifth annotation I want to do for my research project.
Macau is a port nation surrounded by sea and there are no supplies of food or water that Macau can self–sustain. Instead of growing food, Macau
became a busy port for European and Asian traders where they collected taxes as a form of living. Of course, under the Portuguese government, all
the taxes were given to the crown. In Macau, there is no such position as a farmer or a blacksmith. Instead, merchant and bankers became the most
popular form of making a living due to the lack of resources. Today, Macau's economy heavily depends on the European and Chinese tourists coming

The Scarlet Letter
Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking despite the consequences that may transpire from performing the action. In today's society
we tend to look at the easiest way to complete a task or the easiest way to make money despite employing the use of integrity. Your value of integrity
typically portrays what type of person you are. The people you social with have an immense impact on your value of integrity. Integrity is the value you
put on life, which is typically determined by the people you surround yourself with and portrays the type of person you are to others. During the
course of ones lifetime you will encounter many situations in which you will be faced to make the right choice or the wrong one. The choice that you
decide to make reflects the value you put on integrity. For instance, in the article Ex–Harvard student accused of living a lie, we read about a student
who is being accused of submitting false SAT scores, recommendation letters, and grades to Harvard. Adam Wheeler desperately wanted to gain
admission into one of the country best schools, Harvard University. Wheeler knew that to gain admission into the school that he would have to have
near perfect grades. Wheeler truly lacks integrity by summiting false SAT scores, recommendation letters, and grades to Harvard. He is taking
advantage of many other students who had worked so hard throughout their education. If it were not for James Simpson, Wheeler could have gained
admission into

The Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life By Erving...
In Erving Goffman's book, The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, he bases his literature and knowledge off of dramatological theories. According
to Goffman, an individual appearing before others is a performer appearing before his or her audience. These performers have many motives to put on
an act enabling the possibility to control their impressions given off in their performance. He then furthers his belief within a given setting, there is no
true self. On the contrary to Goffman's work, Julia Woods explains the westernized view of self that eachindividual has a true inner identity. But, if we
as performers have a true inner self, can we act consistent while being appropriate in a certain setting? This analysis will depict a ... Show more content

During the analyzed performance between Anthony and Sandy, both of them are focused on maintaining their identity, through their appearance,
manner, and setting. What we use through personal decoration is known as appearance. Goffman explains this characteristic as stable and unchanging
for a person's identity. For instance, while Sandy is speaking so highly of just receiving her Real Estate License she is wearing an elegant woman's
business suit, carrying an affluent designer bag. Based off of her appearance she is displaying a self–made successful woman front. The next physical
characteristic aiding to an individual's front is manner. Goffman claims this aspect is unstable and can change depending on your mood, but ultimately
is how the person says or does things. Proceeding to carry herself in such an egocentric manner, Sandy's conceited attitude indicates her front as a
know it all because she continuously monopolizes every conversation back to herself. Sandy truly believes she has the right advice for every detail
Anthony brings to her attention. Anthony's manner on the other hand, is more of the opposite. From his point of view, he has a good prediction for
what his mother is going to say based off of her mannerisms and signals given and given off, explaining why he is short and subtle to his mother's
statements. The final aspect to maintaining a person's front is known as setting. Within setting, there are presence signs, orientation placement

Challenges are a part of everyday life, and they change us in different and unexpected ways. The theme challenges create change (within individuals)
can be a pivotal part of a text. Characters and people that face challenges have to change their ways of thinking, or even their lives in order to
overcome these challenges. The texts Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, Every Day by David Levithan, Looking for Alaska byJohn Green and Not If I See

In his book, A is a person that moves from body to body every day but never having a body or life of their own. David Levithan shows us how the
challenge of love creates change through Rhiannon and A. "It's as if when you love someone, they become your reason (pg 76)." A lets this love define
them, risking other people's lives in order to be with the person they love, even though they know they shouldn't– "I know I am not supposed to
interfere" (pg 127). This shows how A has changed, because, before A met Rhiannon, they would never have strayed from the daily routine of
another person's body. "Now I'm letting my life hijack all these other lives for a day. I am no staying within the parameters. Even if that's
dangerous (pg 68)." A is also incredibly challenged by not having their own body and their own life. "I am not a part of this and will never be a
part of something like this (pg 268)." "I can never have these things (pg 302)." They know that they will never be able to have their own friends,
their own job or their own life. Because of this, it is hard for A to find themself. When A was younger it was incredibly difficult for them to not have
a tomorrow, because everyone around them did. This is because instead of living thinking of the next day, or the next week, or the next month like we

The Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life Erving Goffman...
This week, we talked about the development of the self. The most interesting readings for me was "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life" by
Erving Goffman. In this piece, Goffman discusses the dramaturgical theory of social interaction, which is the view that we put on a social facade in
our daily lives, as if we are all actors in a theatrical performance. There are two main points that really stood out to me. First was impression
management, more specifically, the (mis)alignment of expressions given and expressions given off. This is so common in everyday life. One of our
goals as life actors is confirming that others are making a good impression, but we often struggle to convey that because of a misalignment in our
explicit verbal cues

The Importance Of Part Four Important Principles In...
Part One The principle from part one that I really liked was don't criticize, condemn, or complain. It could be applied to life when your boss or a fellow
co–worker comes up with an idea they think is great when it might really not be the best idea. Rather than telling them the idea was horrible and
criticizing them for it, you could suggest changes to make it better. Part Two The principle that stood out the most to me in part two was simply
smile. Your expressions are your best feature, the tell someone if your mad, happy, sad, etc. When you smile at someone, they feel like you are happy
to see them and they aren't a bother to you. Smiling can be applied in any life situation, whether it be smiling at a job interview to seem happy and...

You should never just come out and tell someone they're wrong, it makes the person feel stupid and insignificant. This principle can be applied to
everyday life and in the workplace, when you're talking to someone and you know you're wrong about something, tell them. When you know
someone is wrong, let them tell you they're wrong. Part Four The principle in part three that I liked the most was praise the slightest improvement
and praise every improvement. Be hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise. Everyone likes to be praised, it makes them feel good
about themselves. It can be applied in the office by the manager or supervisor letting an employee know they did a good job on the task they were
assigned, or just to keep them motivated to finish the task or job at hand. Conclusion I thought the book "How to Win Friends & Influence People"
by Dale Carnegie was a decent book. It wasn't my favorite book I've read, however, the many principles in the book were excellent. They can all still be
applied to life in today's day and age, even though the book was written in 1936. Part

Leyster And Daumier Painted Everyday Life Events
Leyster and Daumier painted everyday life events, despite the different intentions. The time and styles of the artwork are not similar at all, other than
the intention to capture everyday life events. Leyster 's Self–Portrait focused primarily on herself, how she viewed herself, and how she desired others
to view her. This type of painting was extremely rare, if not unheard of during a time when female artists were seen as inferior. The Baroque style of
painting exhibits bold colors and dramatic lighting with loose brush strokes. Leyster painted herself looking straight, a slight smile, and comfortable
posture; showing a sense of confidence and engagement she desires to capture as though she were looking at the viewer directly. Leyster also had a
smooth finish to her painting making it look more like a photograph, than a painting. Daumier 's work however, is related closely to the working class
and the deep impact the time had on people, using warm colors. Daumier's heavy paint application with harsh dark outlines related to his art as a
caricaturist. Daumier worked to express the struggles that time had brought among the lower or working class by the truth relayed in his painting. The
family in this photo is looking down, with expressed fatigue demonstrated by the women's drooped shoulders and uncomfortableness in the crowded
Third–Class Carriage. There is no direct engagement with the viewers but rather a sense of compassion is expressed. Daumier's painting is left

Definition Essay: The Role Of Fear In Everyday Life
Fear is a natural part of human life. That's not necessarily a bad thing, either. As a survival mechanism, fear heightens our awareness and literally
prepares our body to throw down or to run away as fast as we can. The fight or flight response triggered by fear is an important physical response in
the right setting: say, confronting a panther in the middle of a jungle.
However, in the context of modern everyday life, most of us probably won't cross paths with a panther anytime soon (at least, I certainly hope not).
That being said, our fear can potentially hold us back from trying new things and living our best lives. I recently left a high–paying job in corporate
finance to focus on life coaching and teaching yoga. I would have made the jump much sooner, but I found myself plagued by fear: "How is this
going to turn out? What will people say? Can I really do this? Will I make money?" All were valid questions that I took thetime to consider, ... Show

Just. Do. It.
The timing and conditions may never be right. The markets could crash and the world could end tomorrow. Or not. If you spend a lot of time with
elderly people, you'll find that what they regret the most is letting fear (fear of the future, of what people will say, of failing) prevent them from going
for it. If it's still in your mind, it matters, regardless of how much your fear has stopped you in your tracks up until this point. Just try it, even on a
smaller scale. Perhaps instead of going full–time with your business, you commit to 20 hours a week.
I truly believe that you are a brilliant beam of light and that there is literally no one in the world just like you. Following your heart–despite your
fear–is not only good for you, it's good for the world. Your example will inspire others to address their fear and to meaningfully move forward. How
amazing would the world be if we all lived life on purpose, lit up by the fire of our dreams! It all starts with our decision to honor our fear and hone our

I also have learned that I needed to be mindful of what I post and respond to. For example, I may post something that may seem harmless to me but
to someone else they could take it as insult. As a society, we take everything to heart and if the person may not even mean anything by. What we post
is also a reflection of your character and it could make or break a potential relationship or job opportunity. Once you post something it's out there
forever, even if you take it down. With that being said, if you learn how to maneuver the internet you could market yourself to a wide variety of people
and companies.

The Unfothimoble In Everyday Life : What Is Unfathomable?
Unfathomable. According to Merriam Webster, it is the "incapability of being fully explored or understood." This is a hard concept for humans to
accept. We like to know everything about everything. However, there are few things in life that we cannot provide an explanation for. Humans do
what humans like to do and have attempted to explain these few unexplainable things. The concept of time is one of the hardest to grasp. Time is
a human invention to fit our needs, yet does it really exist? One scientist proposed the idea that each individual moment exists on its own, separate
from time, called Nows. This scientist claims that these Nows are all existing simultaneously. This theory is a very radical idea, but when you
consider that time was created by humans, it makes slightly more sense (Frank). Time is one concept that can never truly be grasped. It seems
simple. Everyday you may wonder, "What time is it?" or "I wonder how much time I have left." In our everyday life we simplify the idea of "time",
but it is much more complex than what meets the eye. You may have heard the expression, "Time flies when you're having fun." If we stick to the idea
that each individual moment, or Now, is happening simultaneously, then how can one moment seem any shorter, or longer for that matter? This brings
us back to the fact of the matter, time is hard to grasp. Because the concept of time is so hard to understand, it makes explaining it, or the rules that
apply to it, very hard. There

Is Erving Goffman's Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life?
Erving Goffman, a modern theorist, is notorious for his idea of the presentation of self in everyday life. Similar to Du Bois, Goffman used a
pragmatic approach to his theories. However, his basic principle was that action, not consciousness is the basis of knowledge. He noted that if social
forces are true, they should be observable to solidify that truth. To study this, Goffman employed his idea of "dramaturgy" which is depicted through
his metaphor of the theater and the theatrical performance of life. The only self that humans have is situational and it varies in every social setting, so
therefore we are always putting on a front. This front is an expression of a certain self–identity at a certain time and place that is formed by the
individual actor using appearance and manner and is then read by the audience (Dollar). If the actor portrays a successful performance, then the
audience will view the actor of they want to be viewed in that particular moment and setting. Take bullying for instance, the bully is putting on a front
and acting as if they are tough individuals, however, when they are backstage and not performing, they could have low self–esteem caused by abusive
relationships or even many personal issues. Goffman's theory of the presentation of self in everyday life is different depending on the time, location and
audience. Performances of self are also enactments with a dual purpose. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Everyday Life Goffman Analysis
Presentation of Self in Everyday Life Goffman introduces us to the concept of dramaturgy in regards to the development of the social Self (and
therefore to Gender Identity). For Goffman, dramaturgy is how the individual becomes a performer in public/quasi–public settings, and their
surrounding environment by default become an audience. He focuses on the dynamic between the two, especially on how the performer must manage
their impression to win audience approval. To fail at garnishing such approval means risking the entire social setting. (This builds upon, or at least
references, Cooley's Mirror Self in that one turns to others to understand one's self in a social situation). The implications here is that the social Self is

There is no Foucauldian analysis at work here (although one can extrapolate it – for instance, one might argue this is a very early imperfect iteration of
performativity). There are no considerations about power's through–line in dramaturgy. For example, who wields power in a performance – is in the
performer or the audience they are trying to impress (or the team players the performer relies upon in certain scenes)? For example, wouldn't everyone
be both a performer and an audience member at the same time, and if so what are the implications of that blurring of boundaries? Also, when exactly
does a performance end? And how does the performance and its attendant power dynamics change in relationship to setting? (And to other more
overarching external factors like the given politics of a certain age or culture)? And finally, Goffman's lack of nuance regarding the performers'
standpoint leave the impression that all actors carry the same expectations and resources into a scene. (He does imply that the role women must
perform is different than that of men but this is only mentioned in passing without any deep analysis. And there is no additional intersectional analysis
that could bring in other indexes, such as

Unfortunately, to every advantage there are a few disadvantages. When Fabrizio saves Vitto on the mountain, he doesn't understand what has
happened. '...I felt myself flush with anger and hate, hate for Fabrizio, my only friend, who seemed suddenly stupid and useless beyond all bearing'
(127). Eventually, as Vittorio makes his progression towards maturity, he realizes that he had underestimated his friend, and they become closer
because of it. As the old saying goes, "ignorance is bliss." But perhaps in the case of this young boy, it isn't. Maybe if he had been able to understand
the severity of the problem his family was in, he would have acted differently.
Lives of the Saints also deals with the contrast of good and evil, something that Vittorio comes across on numerous occasions throughout the story.
(There are far more characters in this story then I could mention on these pages, so I will write about the people who had the greatest effect on
Vittorio). His encounter with Luciano of Rocca Secca is one of the key elements in the book. For his seventh birthday, Vittorio and his mother travel
to Rocca Secca to buy him some birthday presents. On their way towards the market, Cristina meets a tall, muscular man that Vittorio has never seen.
The man (Luciano) carries him piggyback down to a secluded area of town, and takes a large one–lira coin out of his pocket. Luciano tells him the

Kindness Essay
If you asked people what they thought kindness was, what would they say? Would they give a generic answer? Would they say they didn't know?
Many would say that is being nice to others. But is that REALLY what kindness is? Is kindness for people to show appreciation for others? Is it a
way to show that you love someone? Not recently. Recently it has become a mask, a way to gain attention, and a way to make people think you are
better than them.
Kindness is a mask people use to hide their true identity. People use kindness as an excuse to draw attention to themselves. It is used as a way for
people to say, "Hey, look at me! I did something nice!" Quite often, celebrities and politicians post thing on social media, doing this exact thing....

Then, your mom shows up. Immediately that friend "cleans up" their act and starts sucking up to you. They no longer think you are horrible at
everything, they think you are a great contribution to their life, and they are very appreciative of you. Many people deny that they do this, and that
they are a great people. They act very kind and nice, but truly are just hiding what is truly happening. Kindness is truly, just a mask, a cover for what
we don't want others to see.
Kindness is also a way to get attention. It used as a way to get people to look at you and notice you. Many use do this everyday. They seek attention,
and therefore do something nice. They boast about it, and get the attention they "deserve." This is something that we see everywhere, all of the time.
It is on social media, the news, and in everyday life. They boast about their kindness, because "You better toot your own horn. No one else will" (Mr.
Rose). Many use this as an excuse to make an act of kindness. They see an opportunity to get attention and dive right in. They use kindness as the way
to get attention. They use it to get attention and a reputation of perfection. An immense amount of people boast and brag about how they did something
good, and everyone knows. They tell everyone and hope to get people telling them they are so cool, and that they are perfect. But this just makes people
think that they are better than others.

The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life by Erving Goffman
Dramaturgical Perspective
In his book, The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, Goffman (1959) focuses on the self as a staged production in which people actively present
themselves to different audiences one encounters. To bolster his conceptualization, Goffman used an interesting metaphor of "all the world's a stage"
(1959, 254). This, he terms as a "dramaturgical approach" (Goffman 1959, 240) in which an actor puts on a show for others; drawing analogies between
human behaviors and the theater. Goffman (1959) likens the individual to an actor on stage performing for and with other individuals involved in the
situation. Three types of space exist for the actor to perform on, to enact the self, and to interact with others: the front stage, the backstage, the outer
region. Goffman (1959) utilizes specific dramaturgical terms such as performance, teams, front and back regions, sign–vehicles, and highlights the
process of dramatic realization. These terms will be discussed in the following sections.
Performance. The interactions are viewed as a performance, constantly being shaped by the environment and audience, with the objective of providing
others with impressions that are consonant with the desired goals of the actor. Specifically Goffman states as "all the activity of an individual which
occurs during a period marked by his continuous presence before a particular set of observers and which has some influence on the observers" (1959,
32). Goffman (1959) uses the

Technology And Technology : Our Use Of Technology
In an age full of technology, we have engulfed our minds with things that we view on our smartphones, computers, and of course, television. People
must learn to slow down for a moment and cherish the things in life that actually matter, like family, friends, time to pray and to read our Bibles. Even
though there are great uses with technology like news, entertainment, communication with friends and family, and even applications that can help with
everyday life, where do we draw the line?
In my most humble opinion, I believe we should limit the usage of technology by a considerable amount. Technology can be a distraction from the
important things in life that we miss on a daily basis. We must learn to be able to spend time with the ones we... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It can also include sharing personal or private information about someone else causing embarrassment or humiliation. Some cyber bullying crosses the
line into unlawful or criminal behavior. This accounts for 20 percent of the bullying that happens in the world.
Adversely, Technology can bea good thing. For example, technology is very useful for school work, news, spiritual and religious gratification, and
for blind and deaf folks. Many videos on YouTube offer help for school work, as well as sermons, and plenty of news. Many websites also offer
these things. Another pro to technology, would be travel. Technology in the past 20 or so years has allowed for more accessible ways to drive, and
passenger a train or airplane. We now have turn by turn navigation thanks to satellites and also the accessibility of safe driving standards on most newer
model vehicles.
Although Travel and online connectivity may be a good thing, it still takes up our time and flushes it down the toilet like last nights supper. All this
news and communication is just a distraction from our everyday lives and takes away from the old principals that we humans have been setting before
us for hundreds of years. Why change a hundred years of tradition with technology that will never last?
Overall, technology can be a bad thing. For one, we need to spend time with God, family, and friends. Technology can take away from that,

##luences Of My Father : The Influence Of My Father
The Influence of my dad
William Shakespeare once said, "When a father gives to a son, both laugh; when a son gives to a father, both cry." Fathers are a symbol to not only
me but the rest of the world, whether good or bad. They make us who we are today, and give us the tools we need to succeed in life. Around
November of 2015 there was a lot of talk on the news about ISIS, and the destruction they were causing in the middle east. They were taking control of
different countries, and beheading thousands of Christians. My family and I are Christians and during that time there was a lot of fear for the
country and for the people that were Christians in the middle east. Each night felt like someone had been beheaded by a member of ISIS and the news
was horrific. I began to ponder a what was going in my life and who could I ask for some advice. I asked my dad one night " Why does God allow
terrible things to happen to good–hearted people, and allows violence to occur " He then replied saying, "This world is filled with angry people and
sin, when you put those two things together it causes destruction. God doesn't let those people just die for nothing he has a plan for each and every
one of us, and a time when we leave this world." When my father told me this I understood perfectly, this advice led me to reflect and remember that
God's in control. This gave me hope that even though the world is dark I can still be a light. My dad has been a big part of my life and has made me

The Importance Of Bioscience In Everyday Life
The Importance of Bioscience in Everyday Life
Bioscience, also called biology and life science, is the study of living organisms, whether it is a microorganism or a blue whale. The study and
application of bioscience affect almost every aspect of life from health, to agriculture and food to industry and energy. They are at the heart of many
innovations that result in products to cure diseases, create new fuels and ensure that people on Earth have safe and abundant food and water.
Entrepreneurs and scientists like Bruce Eaton have been working with commercial applications of bioscience for pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and
diagnostics.

An Analysis Of Everyday Ambassador, By Kate Otto
First and foremost, the novel Everyday Ambassador, by Kate Otto, opens the eyes of many, and makes people realise that there are four simple
values they can add into their everyday lives to make a difference. By adding these values into your life you could make a difference for not only
yourself but for your neighbors, community, and maybe even the world. An everyday ambassador has to have focus, empathy, humility, and patience.
By realizing you want to make a change you are already on the journey to becoming an everyday ambassador.
First, one value that you should take a look into adding into your life is focus. Focus is when you have your interest and attention on one certain object
or task. By allowing focus into your everyday habits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Third, another value needed to be on the path to be an everyday ambassador is humility. Humility is knowing we are important and equal to
everybody else around us no matter what age, skin color, or religion they have. We should not have to wake up everyday and get likes on social
media to feel important. We shouldn't compare our lives to others and put people down because they are different than us. Having humility allows
you to realize that it is okay to not be an expert at everything and know that sometimes you can't contribute as much as others. But knowing that,
allows you to find aspects of your life where you can help and make a difference. You should be putting yourself into situations where you can help
change the world even if it is one small step at a time. By doing this you can become an everyday ambassador.
Lastly, the fourth and final value you need to have to become an everyday ambassador is patience. Patience is the ability to overcome annoyance
when confronted with some kind of delay of results. This has become a very distinct problem with people as we have every answer we could ever
want at our fingertips. By having patience in your life and letting yourself know that results could take a while puts you on the path to becoming an
everyday ambassador. Youneed to know, especially if you want to help change people's lives or change the world, that seeing results could take a very
long time. However, if you do have the patience

Everyday Life Sociology
All interpretation of our world is based on previous experiences of it – both our own and others. It is given to us when we are born to experience and
interpret. The world of everyday life, or everyday social world, is an " intersubjective world that existed long before our birth, experienced and
interpreted by Others, our predecessors, as an organised world." (Schutz, 1962–1996: 208) This world isn't a private world, it is common to all of us,
and provides the scene and object of our actions and interactions. Our everyday social world is shaped by our actions, our actions are influenced by
the environment we exist in. Understanding this world gives us a chance to view how " personal and interpersonal relationships intersect with
relations of power and broader social identities." (Robin & Overholtzer, 2015). The concept of everyday life in central to humanity. People have daily

depicts the ongoing reproduction and emulation of our current society. People reproduce society by reproducing themselves and handing down
accepted social functions and expectations. When humans reproduce, they become a representative of a world into which others are born. When I
was born, my parents taught me how to exist in our everyday world, and one day I will pass this on to my own children. This process can, however,
be influenced by other factors. Personal experience, in particular, plays a significant role in how we interact with others and what version of the world

Summary Of Everyday Life By Goffman
Throughout "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life," Goffman makes an analogy between self and society, and actors and theater. In the
concluding chapter, Goffman begins with a discussion on his theory of self and then proceeds to question his analogy of theater and actors. In
choosing to step back, Goffman acknowledges that the book and analogy are part of his opinion, and that others may disagree. While Goffman
presents hesitation regarding the use of this analogy, for many readers the analogy allows them to better comprehend the structure of social
encounters. Goffman uses actors and the theater to understand something about individuals and the way they interact in everyday life. In his
conclusion, Goffman provides a theory of the self. According to Goffman, the self is composed of two parts the performer and the character. The
theory being that the self is a performed character. The character being the real self, which is developed because of one's actions. All the actions we
make as individuals have risks, and these risks are part of our everyday performances.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his last two pages, Goffman makes an argument stating that his use of the theater and actors "was in part a rhetoric and a maneuver" (Goffman
254). Having read all of Goffman, I believe that his use of the theater is a successful analogy. An analogy is a literary technique used to compare things
so that a relationship can be seen between them. The comparison works to get the reader to think about what both things have in common. For much of
the book, Goffman describes in detail the similarities between an individual's performance during social interactions and an actor's performance on
stage. Goffman admits that there are differences between real life and the stage. However, the techniques used by actors in a theater are the same as the
techniques individuals apply in their everyday

Everyday Life And Existence In Thornton Wilder's Our Town
Throughout time, many things have changed dramatically. Technology, food, culture, and the quality of life are just a few examples of how our life
has been altered. However, there is one thing that has not changed much: the view of human life and existence. Humans want and have the need to
be unique, yet this is just an implausible figment of the imagination. Life unveils itself for everyone in the same way when it comes to love, death,
and other worldly things. Everyone has the intention of a perfect life. Thornton Wilder looks into the idea of the similarities of everyday life and
existence in his play, Our Town; this is also explored in various genres. One genre, movies, explores the idea of similarities of everyday life and
existence. In a scene from the movie Hope Floats, the mother tells her daughter: "I'm just an ordinary person. And that's... Show more content on

One part of the poem "Lucinda Matlock" gives a quote that can apply to most people's lives: "And then I found Davis. We were married and lived
together for seventy years." This shows that the woman in the poem has found her soulmate. She proves that true love actually is possible. She
also believes that love is important and a significant part in life; she must have believed that if she lived with her husband for 70 years. In Our
Town, George and Emily go to a drug store to drink sodas. George tells Emily, "I think that once you've found a person that you're very fond of...I
mean a person who's fond of you too, and likes you enough to be interested in your character...Well, I think that's just as important as college is, and
even more so." George, like the woman in the poem, believes love plays a major role in life; he believes it is something worth pursuing. Most
people have two beliefs: either they hold love to be important, or they do not think it plays a major role in life. This makes people similar in the aspect of

The Kaluli People of Papua New Guinea in the Book, The...
The, "Sorrow of the Lonely and the Burning of the Dancers", is a ethnography written by anthropologist Edward Schieffelin, derived from his
fieldwork with the Kaluli people of Papua New Guinea. The main focus of the book of the book is how many of the fundamental notions that are
implicit in Kaluli culture are found in the Gisaro ceremony, which Schieffelin uses as, "a lens through which to view some of the fundamental
issues of Kaluli life and society" (p1). The first chapter gives a brief account of the Gisaro ceremony, where a group of singers and dancers from
one longhouse community, or aa, perform at another aa. What makes the ceremony so interesting is that the performance of the dancers and singers
is tailored to provoke strong emotions of sorrow amongst the host audience, who in response will burn the dancers across the back and shoulders
with resin torches. The ceremony clearly fascinated Schieffelin, and translates through his writing, as his his description of the Gisaro paints a vivid
picture which allows the reader to share his fascination as well. The following chapters look at different aspects of Kaluli everyday life. Schieffelin
himself asserts that he does not approach the study of Kaluli society and culture from a structural perspective, but is instead is more interested in how
social relationships and cultural ideas are expressed and conceived through everyday life. This approach, personally, is much more interesting as it
allows Schieffelin to delve

Cultural Factors In The Sociocultural Environment
There are many things in life that influence our development in some shape or form. Whether in a positive or negative way, influence is something
that surrounds us, our children and family and may determine the way we develop. We are all prone to influences in our environment. Although there
are many factors that influence us, one specific example are the sociocultural factors we are surrounded by in our everyday lives. This paper will be
discussing the strengths and weaknesses in the sociocultural environment that influence both children and families.
Growing up in dangerous neighborhoods, having neglectful parents, or simply going through natural disasters are a few negative ways
sociocultural factors may influence the way children and families develop. There are many people living in "safe" neighborhoods but there is also
a decent amount of families who are living in very dangerous areas. There are areas in this city where crime is rarely ever seen, but there are also
many areas where crime is seen on a daily basis and many families are going through that and have to either see it or live through it. This impacts a child
a whole lot because they grow up hearing about people getting shot, people drug dealing, being addicted to alcohol and a variety of negative lifestyles
children and families should not have to live through. Sadly, sometimes in between all this going on, children grow up having parents that may always
be working or worse, be criminals. The parents

Everyday Life
Everyday life can be a difficult and amorphous concept to grapple with. This essay will consider the various aspects of Scott's definition of what
"Everyday life" is and to what extent I agree with it. In its most simplistic and stripped down form, Scott's suggests that it's a study of 'people doing
little things in local places' or more succinctly 'the wider picture' (Scott, 2009, p1). Everyday life can also be viewed as a person seeking solace in
the familiarity of repetitive and rhythmic routines (Scott, 2009). Scott's final assertion is that everyday life exists in the realm of a person's individual
and private choices, which have a bearing on that person's patterns of behaviour (Scott, 2009). Scott specifically touches on seven... Show more content

Scott also makes the point that a person's so called private life, has an impact on everyday life and should be studied to find linkages in a broader
sense, on larger public issue's (Scott, 2009). The distinction which Scott makes here and I agree with, is that mundane things people do in the
privacy of their own homes, while obviously having no social connotations, are still reflective upon that person's everyday life (Scott, 2009). This
is reflected by Moran, perhaps spuriously as; everyone coming home after work, nuking a TV dinner, brainlessly watching the idiot box and
tucking themselves into bed (Moran, 2008). Maybe a more scandalous example is that of sexual betrayal's, and what can be a rapid expansion from
a micro issue in a person's private life to a broader issue that impacts on families and broader society (Bennett, 1994). Jacobsen briefly touches on this
in support of Scott, by describing everyday life in terms of having; 'a place, space, location, domain' connotation, 'a temporal dimension' i.e. relating to
time and as having 'an attitude, mentality or state of consciousness', so when deconstructed it speaks to where everyday life happens, with what
regularity and the scrutinization that takes places (Jacobsen, 2009, p14). To conclude, I premised this essay on everyday life being an almost intangible
concept, in Scott's words

Erving Goffman's Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life
Erving Goffman was a Canadian–born sociologist and writer. He was made a president of the American Sociological Association. His best–known
involvement and contribution to the social sciences is his theory of symbolic interaction and dramaturgy, which began with his 1959 book The
Presentation of Self in Everyday Life. This report explains that individuals have the ability to choose their stage, the character they play, and the
costume they wear in specific social situations (Goffman, 1959). He also worked with the total institution model, and used it to construct his studies,
mostly in Asylums. A total institution is a residence and workplace for similar people, who are cut off from the wider society for an amount of time,
and who altogether, lead an enclosed form of life (Frank, 2002). This ties in with his next book about mental institutions, where he theorized that if

He describes how the institution associates people into the role of a 'good patient', who is someone that is blindly obedient, "dull, harmless and

matter how therapeutic or non–therapeutic a hospital and program is (Pilgrim and Rogers, 2008). People come from their own social frameworks,
where they occupy diverse roles. When institutionalized, these individuals are stripped of their 'sense of themselves' leading to what Goffman
described as 'disculturation' (Davidson et, al. 2011). Instead of treating mental health as an illness, 'disculturation' leads to demoralization, deterioration,
and leaves people virtually incapable of managing their own lives in the 'real world', which leaves them requiring to remain institutionalized (Davidson

The Swimmer Theme
We ignore it, we do not realize it and we certainly do not want to come to terms with it but at the end of the day, irrespective of how we, humans, feel
about it, the passage of time is inevitable. Time is taken for granted, it is not something we pay much attention to in our everyday lives – most of us
cannot even afford to do so. Our lives are slow, as is the process of realizing that we are gradually being absorbed into oblivion, disappearing bit by bit
in our own time and turning ourselves into mere memories that in the grand scheme of things are virtually irrelevant. The Swimmer by John Cheever is a
short story that, in an incredibly accurate manner, illustrates how the neglect of reality can impair a person's judgment and understanding of time, and

reluctant to dive in and continue swimming as he once was. He is no longer physically able to drag himself across all those pools and finish the

Initially, the journey goes smoothly with Neddy being well welcomed and received by his neighbors. He stops by his neighbors' houses to get drinks

colder which makes it increasingly harder for Neddy to swim through. This transition showcases the changes Neddy goes through – he is getting older

Genocide In Everyday Life

  • 1. Genocide In Everyday Life When you think of everyday life you think of the same simple routine you go thought in your everyday life. Get up, get ready for/ work school, head home, eat your dinner, and head to sleep only to get up and do the same exact thing for the rest of the week. This same thing could be considered the same as Nazi death/ work camps yet the routine being much more, harsh and spirit breaking than the normal every day vanilla lifestyle you live. Anything was better than death camps. Genocide, lots of it happened during world war two, be it the war its self or the dastardly camps known as death camps killing millions of people with Jewish heritage in their veins, not to mention many other people as well, like the disabled, polish, gypsies, and many more. The people who Hitler didn't like or went against him and his ways were put to death.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The life of a prisoner in a death camp was a hard one, having very little to call your own. Sleeping on straw, eating disgusting food, standing attention for hours, and working with your cold dead hands. The routine was a hard spirit breaking one. Not to mention the dusting food the Kapo's tried to pass off as food. It was probably spoiled and rotten. It was most likely to get a lot of prisoner's sick form how less they got to eat and what condition the food was in. Despite that all being said it's suppressing and very interesting what went on in death camps from good to bad and quirky to surprisingly normal. Maybe if concentration camps didn't exist maybe World War 2 wouldn't of happened, but that's highly unlikely to happen as Hitler was already invading most of Europe at the time so he had to be stopped. But at least the camps were taken over and the prisoners were finally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Leadership Qualities Of Fice Manager Essay Unfortunately, at my current place of work I have experienced numerous negative leadership traits. The owner is fantastic but the office manager he has placed in power is less than agreeable. The office manager lacks the appropriate leadership skills because he is a very negative individual. He consistently speaks unkindly to employees, never follows through, is very lazy and is quite frankly unknowledgeable. He does not know how to lead people but only how to shove them toward the ground. He lacks basic communication skills, attacks before asking questions and never places his employees' needs before his own. He does not understand the underlying link between happiness and productivity (p. 88). Thus, most employees at my office would speak negatively about their experience in the office. However, I also have fatal leadership flaws. I get too emotional when frustrated. I do not express this with tears or sadden but rather a bad attitude. It is a flaw that I am continuously working on. I unfortunately wear my emotions on my sleeves. Thus, when I am unhappy often times everyone knows it and this is not a good thing. Fortunately, I have exhibited good leadership before at work. I am a problem solver and an encourager. When we facing difficulties at with a particular project and employees start to feel down, I reaffirm their great work ethic on a personal level. Our accounts were all getting disapproved, Facebook was flagging everything for no apparent reason. Everyone was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Origin Stories On some levels, origin stories are just that, stories. Growing up, whenever I read origin stories or myths, they seemed extremely unrealistic and I always questioned whether they were actually true or just make belief. As I became older, I began to develop a better understanding of things, and when I reread those stories, I realized that there was a much bigger picture behind every story. Origin stories are essentially traditional tales, usually ones that concern the early history of people, or that explain some natural or social phenomenon. A lot of thetime origin stories have animals or objects depicting humans, or have some sort supernatural activities going on which makes the stories seem unrealistic, but behind all of that I was always able to find some sort of message or explanation that proved to be very useful. Some origin stories would explain how our ancestors came to be, others would include a moral but most importantly, every story was like a window, a window that allowed us to get a better comprehension of our past. A big question that is always being asked is "Should origin stories be encouraged to people"? My answer is yes. Yes we should encourage origin stories because they teach us valuable life lessons, solidify and shape our cultures, and give us a deeper understanding of our past. Life lessons are tremendously important. Many say that in order to learn a life lesson, you must live through one. They are not wrong, but there is a much easier way to ... • 4. Stereotypes In Everyday Life From one day to the next, a traumatic experience can detrimentally change one's life, and just like that, a person's daily life can dramatically change. Stereotypes are pictures that people get from a certain type of group that can be judged and can be exaggerated to a point where opinions tend to get out of hand. People live in a world where people judge others from top to bottom, when one sees others living their life in a way differently than they would live theirs, causes them to judge for the way the different people live. My personal experience has definitely made me a stronger person in hundreds of ways. In the summer of 2014, my grandmother was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. A couple months later on, she then lost the ability to swallow food through her mouth. It was a ton to take in and there was nothing one could do, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yes, stereotypes may be based on truths, yet tend to be quite exaggerated. Stereotypes can be a widely believed picture of what people have, looking at the person and wanting to judge. Not all stereotypes are negative. Some may be bad, or (some) may be about good things that people assume, yet not know. We tend to want real friends that are caring and all that. I want to know when passing in our everyday life, how do you know what you are doing is right or wrong especially in relationships? Just keep in mind "passing" means that you are not being who you actually are. Throughout our lives, we tend to have many best friends or friends. That friend is inclined to care for you and be there for you, right? After time has passed, at the end of the day you don't know if they are true friends or not? What are true friends? Macau is a port nation surrounded by sea and there are no supplies of food or water that Macau can self–sustain. Instead of growing food, Macau became a busy port for European and Asian traders where they collected taxes as a form of living. Of course, under the Portuguese government, all the taxes were given to the crown. In Macau, there is no such position as a farmer or a blacksmith. • 7. The Scarlet Letter Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking despite the consequences that may transpire from performing the action. In today's society we tend to look at the easiest way to complete a task or the easiest way to make money despite employing the use of integrity. Your value of integrity typically portrays what type of person you are. The people you social with have an immense impact on your value of integrity. Integrity is the value you put on life, which is typically determined by the people you surround yourself with and portrays the type of person you are to others. During the course of ones lifetime you will encounter many situations in which you will be faced to make the right choice or the wrong one. The choice that you decide to make reflects the value you put on integrity. For instance, in the article Ex–Harvard student accused of living a lie, we read about a student who is being accused of submitting false SAT scores, recommendation letters, and grades to Harvard. Adam Wheeler desperately wanted to gain admission into one of the country best schools, Harvard University. Wheeler knew that to gain admission into the school that he would have to have near perfect grades. Wheeler truly lacks integrity by summiting false SAT scores, recommendation letters, and grades to Harvard. He is taking advantage of many other students who had worked so hard throughout their education. If it were not for James Simpson, Wheeler could have gained admission into ... • 8. The Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life By Erving... In Erving Goffman's book, The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, he bases his literature and knowledge off of dramatological theories. According to Goffman, an individual appearing before others is a performer appearing before his or her audience. These performers have many motives to put on an act enabling the possibility to control their impressions given off in their performance. He then furthers his belief within a given setting, there is no true self. On the contrary to Goffman's work, Julia Woods explains the westernized view of self that eachindividual has a true inner identity. But, if we as performers have a true inner self, can we act consistent while being appropriate in a certain setting? This analysis will depict a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the analyzed performance between Anthony and Sandy, both of them are focused on maintaining their identity, through their appearance, manner, and setting. What we use through personal decoration is known as appearance. Goffman explains this characteristic as stable and unchanging for a person's identity. For instance, while Sandy is speaking so highly of just receiving her Real Estate License she is wearing an elegant woman's business suit, carrying an affluent designer bag. Based off of her appearance she is displaying a self–made successful woman front. The next physical characteristic aiding to an individual's front is manner. Goffman claims this aspect is unstable and can change depending on your mood, but ultimately is how the person says or does things. Proceeding to carry herself in such an egocentric manner, Sandy's conceited attitude indicates her front as a know it all because she continuously monopolizes every conversation back to herself. Sandy truly believes she has the right advice for every detail Anthony brings to her attention. Anthony's manner on the other hand, is more of the opposite. From his point of view, he has a good prediction for what his mother is going to say based off of her mannerisms and signals given and given off, explaining why he is short and subtle to his mother's statements. The final aspect to maintaining a person's front is known as setting. Within setting, there are presence signs, orientation placement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theme challenges create change (within individuals) can be a pivotal part of a text. Characters and people that face challenges have to change their ways of thinking, or even their lives in order to overcome these challenges. The texts Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, Every Day by David Levithan, Looking for Alaska byJohn Green and Not If I See You First by Eric Lindstrom all show how challenges createchange in not just one individual but multiple people throughout the texts. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his book, A is a person that moves from body to body every day but never having a body or life of their own. David Levithan shows us how the challenge of love creates change through Rhiannon and A. "It's as if when you love someone, they become your reason (pg 76)." A lets this love define them, risking other people's lives in order to be with the person they love, even though they know they shouldn't– "I know I am not supposed to interfere" (pg 127). This shows how A has changed, because, before A met Rhiannon, they would never have strayed from the daily routine of another person's body. "Now I'm letting my life hijack all these other lives for a day. I am no staying within the parameters. Even if that's dangerous (pg 68)." A is also incredibly challenged by not having their own body and their own life. "I am not a part of this and will never be a part of something like this (pg 268)." "I can never have these things (pg 302)." They know that they will never be able to have their own friends, their own job or their own life. Because of this, it is hard for A to find themself. When A was younger it was incredibly difficult for them to not have a tomorrow, because everyone around them did. • 10. The Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life Erving Goffman... This week, we talked about the development of the self. The most interesting readings for me was "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life" by Erving Goffman. In this piece, Goffman discusses the dramaturgical theory of social interaction, which is the view that we put on a social facade in our daily lives, as if we are all actors in a theatrical performance. There are two main points that really stood out to me. First was impression management, more specifically, the (mis)alignment of expressions given and expressions given off. This is so common in everyday life. One of our goals as life actors is confirming that others are making a good impression, but we often struggle to convey that because of a misalignment in our explicit verbal cues ... • 12. The Importance Of Part Four Important Principles In... Part One The principle from part one that I really liked was don't criticize, condemn, or complain. It could be applied to life when your boss or a fellow co–worker comes up with an idea they think is great when it might really not be the best idea. Rather than telling them the idea was horrible and criticizing them for it, you could suggest changes to make it better. Part Two The principle that stood out the most to me in part two was simply smile. Your expressions are your best feature, the tell someone if your mad, happy, sad, etc. When you smile at someone, they feel like you are happy to see them and they aren't a bother to you. Smiling can be applied in any life situation, whether it be smiling at a job interview to seem happy and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You should never just come out and tell someone they're wrong, it makes the person feel stupid and insignificant. This principle can be applied to everyday life and in the workplace, when you're talking to someone and you know you're wrong about something, tell them. When you know someone is wrong, let them tell you they're wrong. Part Four The principle in part three that I liked the most was praise the slightest improvement and praise every improvement. Be hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise. Everyone likes to be praised, it makes them feel good about themselves. It can be applied in the office by the manager or supervisor letting an employee know they did a good job on the task they were assigned, or just to keep them motivated to finish the task or job at hand. Conclusion I thought the book "How to Win Friends & Influence People" by Dale Carnegie was a decent book. It wasn't my favorite book I've read, however, the many principles in the book were excellent. They can all still be applied to life in today's day and age, even though the book was written in 1936. • 13. Leyster And Daumier Painted Everyday Life Events Leyster and Daumier painted everyday life events, despite the different intentions. The time and styles of the artwork are not similar at all, other than the intention to capture everyday life events. Leyster 's Self–Portrait focused primarily on herself, how she viewed herself, and how she desired others to view her. This type of painting was extremely rare, if not unheard of during a time when female artists were seen as inferior. The Baroque style of painting exhibits bold colors and dramatic lighting with loose brush strokes. Leyster painted herself looking straight, a slight smile, and comfortable posture; showing a sense of confidence and engagement she desires to capture as though she were looking at the viewer directly. Leyster also had a smooth finish to her painting making it look more like a photograph, than a painting. Daumier 's work however, is related closely to the working class and the deep impact the time had on people, using warm colors. Daumier's heavy paint application with harsh dark outlines related to his art as a caricaturist. Daumier worked to express the struggles that time had brought among the lower or working class by the truth relayed in his painting. The family in this photo is looking down, with expressed fatigue demonstrated by the women's drooped shoulders and uncomfortableness in the crowded Third–Class Carriage. There is no direct engagement with the viewers but rather a sense of compassion is expressed. Daumier's painting is left ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Definition Essay: The Role Of Fear In Everyday Life Fear is a natural part of human life. That's not necessarily a bad thing, either. As a survival mechanism, fear heightens our awareness and literally prepares our body to throw down or to run away as fast as we can. The fight or flight response triggered by fear is an important physical response in the right setting: say, confronting a panther in the middle of a jungle. However, in the context of modern everyday life, most of us probably won't cross paths with a panther anytime soon (at least, I certainly hope not). That being said, our fear can potentially hold us back from trying new things and living our best lives. I recently left a high–paying job in corporate finance to focus on life coaching and teaching yoga. I would have made the jump much sooner, but I found myself plagued by fear: "How is this going to turn out? What will people say? Can I really do this? Will I make money?" All were valid questions that I took thetime to consider, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just. Do. It. The timing and conditions may never be right. If you spend a lot of time with elderly people, you'll find that what they regret the most is letting fear (fear of the future, of what people will say, of failing) prevent them from going for it. If it's still in your mind, it matters, regardless of how much your fear has stopped you in your tracks up until this point. Just try it, even on a smaller scale. Perhaps instead of going full–time with your business, you commit to 20 hours a week. I truly believe that you are a brilliant beam of light and that there is literally no one in the world just like you. Following your heart–despite your fear–is not only good for you, it's good for the world. Your example will inspire others to address their fear and to meaningfully move forward. • 16. The Unfothimoble In Everyday Life : What Is Unfathomable? Unfathomable. According to Merriam Webster, it is the "incapability of being fully explored or understood." This is a hard concept for humans to accept. We like to know everything about everything. However, there are few things in life that we cannot provide an explanation for. Humans do what humans like to do and have attempted to explain these few unexplainable things. The concept of time is one of the hardest to grasp. Time is a human invention to fit our needs, yet does it really exist? One scientist proposed the idea that each individual moment exists on its own, separate from time, called Nows. This scientist claims that these Nows are all existing simultaneously. This theory is a very radical idea, but when you consider that time was created by humans, it makes slightly more sense (Frank). Time is one concept that can never truly be grasped. It seems simple. Everyday you may wonder, "What time is it?" or "I wonder how much time I have left." In our everyday life we simplify the idea of "time", but it is much more complex than what meets the eye. You may have heard the expression, "Time flies when you're having fun." If we stick to the idea that each individual moment, or Now, is happening simultaneously, then how can one moment seem any shorter, or longer for that matter? This brings us back to the fact of the matter, time is hard to grasp. Because the concept of time is so hard to understand, it makes explaining it, or the rules that apply to it, very hard. There ... • 17. Is Erving Goffman's Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life? Erving Goffman, a modern theorist, is notorious for his idea of the presentation of self in everyday life. Similar to Du Bois, Goffman used a pragmatic approach to his theories. However, his basic principle was that action, not consciousness is the basis of knowledge. He noted that if social forces are true, they should be observable to solidify that truth. To study this, Goffman employed his idea of "dramaturgy" which is depicted through his metaphor of the theater and the theatrical performance of life. The only self that humans have is situational and it varies in every social setting, so therefore we are always putting on a front. This front is an expression of a certain self–identity at a certain time and place that is formed by the individual actor using appearance and manner and is then read by the audience (Dollar). If the actor portrays a successful performance, then the audience will view the actor of they want to be viewed in that particular moment and setting. Take bullying for instance, the bully is putting on a front and acting as if they are tough individuals, however, when they are backstage and not performing, they could have low self–esteem caused by abusive relationships or even many personal issues. Goffman's theory of the presentation of self in everyday life is different depending on the time, location and audience. Performances of self are also enactments with a dual purpose. ... • 20. Everyday Life Goffman Analysis Presentation of Self in Everyday Life Goffman introduces us to the concept of dramaturgy in regards to the development of the social Self (and therefore to Gender Identity). For Goffman, dramaturgy is how the individual becomes a performer in public/quasi–public settings, and their surrounding environment by default become an audience. He focuses on the dynamic between the two, especially on how the performer must manage their impression to win audience approval. To fail at garnishing such approval means risking the entire social setting. (This builds upon, or at least references, Cooley's Mirror Self in that one turns to others to understand one's self in a social situation). The implications here is that the social Self is not simply... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no Foucauldian analysis at work here (although one can extrapolate it – for instance, one might argue this is a very early imperfect iteration of performativity). There are no considerations about power's through–line in dramaturgy. For example, who wields power in a performance – is in the performer or the audience they are trying to impress (or the team players the performer relies upon in certain scenes)? For example, wouldn't everyone be both a performer and an audience member at the same time, and if so what are the implications of that blurring of boundaries? Also, when exactly does a performance end? And how does the performance and its attendant power dynamics change in relationship to setting? (And to other more overarching external factors like the given politics of a certain age or culture)? And finally, Goffman's lack of nuance regarding the performers' standpoint leave the impression that all actors carry the same expectations and resources into a scene. (He does imply that the role women must perform is different than that of men but this is only mentioned in passing without any deep analysis. • 23. The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life by Erving Goffman Dramaturgical Perspective In his book, The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, Goffman (1959) focuses on the self as a staged production in which people actively present themselves to different audiences one encounters. To bolster his conceptualization, Goffman used an interesting metaphor of "all the world's a stage" (1959, 254). This, he terms as a "dramaturgical approach" (Goffman 1959, 240) in which an actor puts on a show for others; drawing analogies between human behaviors and the theater. Goffman (1959) likens the individual to an actor on stage performing for and with other individuals involved in the situation. Three types of space exist for the actor to perform on, to enact the self, and to interact with others: the front stage, the backstage, the outer region. Goffman (1959) utilizes specific dramaturgical terms such as performance, teams, front and back regions, sign–vehicles, and highlights the process of dramatic realization. These terms will be discussed in the following sections. Performance. The interactions are viewed as a performance, constantly being shaped by the environment and audience, with the objective of providing others with impressions that are consonant with the desired goals of the actor. Specifically Goffman states as "all the activity of an individual which occurs during a period marked by his continuous presence before a particular set of observers and which has some influence on the observers" (1959, 32). An everyday ambassador has to have focus, empathy, humility, and patience. By realizing you want to make a change you are already on the journey to becoming an everyday ambassador. Humility is knowing we are important and equal to everybody else around us no matter what age, skin color, or religion they have. We should not have to wake up everyday and get likes on social media to feel important. We shouldn't compare our lives to others and put people down because they are different than us. Having humility allows you to realize that it is okay to not be an expert at everything and know that sometimes you can't contribute as much as others. But knowing that, allows you to find aspects of your life where you can help and make a difference. You should be putting yourself into situations where you can help change the world even if it is one small step at a time. By doing this you can become an everyday ambassador. Lastly, the fourth and final value you need to have to become an everyday ambassador is patience. Patience is the ability to overcome annoyance when confronted with some kind of delay of results. This has become a very distinct problem with people as we have every answer we could ever want at our fingertips. By having patience in your life and letting yourself know that results could take a while puts you on the path to becoming an everyday ambassador. • 30. Summary Of Everyday Life By Goffman Throughout "The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life," Goffman makes an analogy between self and society, and actors and theater. In the concluding chapter, Goffman begins with a discussion on his theory of self and then proceeds to question his analogy of theater and actors. In choosing to step back, Goffman acknowledges that the book and analogy are part of his opinion, and that others may disagree. While Goffman presents hesitation regarding the use of this analogy, for many readers the analogy allows them to better comprehend the structure of social encounters. Goffman uses actors and the theater to understand something about individuals and the way they interact in everyday life. In his conclusion, Goffman provides a theory of the self. According to Goffman, the self is composed of two parts the performer and the character. The theory being that the self is a performed character. The character being the real self, which is developed because of one's actions. All the actions we make as individuals have risks, and these risks are part of our everyday performances.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his last two pages, Goffman makes an argument stating that his use of the theater and actors "was in part a rhetoric and a maneuver" (Goffman 254). Having read all of Goffman, I believe that his use of the theater is a successful analogy. An analogy is a literary technique used to compare things so that a relationship can be seen between them. The comparison works to get the reader to think about what both things have in common. For much of the book, Goffman describes in detail the similarities between an individual's performance during social interactions and an actor's performance on stage. Goffman admits that there are differences between real life and the stage. However, the techniques used by actors in a theater are the same as the techniques individuals apply in their everyday ... • 31. Everyday Life And Existence In Thornton Wilder's Our Town Throughout time, many things have changed dramatically. Technology, food, culture, and the quality of life are just a few examples of how our life has been altered. However, there is one thing that has not changed much: the view of human life and existence. Humans want and have the need to be unique, yet this is just an implausible figment of the imagination. Life unveils itself for everyone in the same way when it comes to love, death, and other worldly things. Everyone has the intention of a perfect life. Thornton Wilder looks into the idea of the similarities of everyday life and existence in his play, Our Town; this is also explored in various genres. One genre, movies, explores the idea of similarities of everyday life and existence. In a scene from the movie Hope Floats, the mother tells her daughter: "I'm just an ordinary person. And that's... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One part of the poem "Lucinda Matlock" gives a quote that can apply to most people's lives: "And then I found Davis. We were married and lived together for seventy years." This shows that the woman in the poem has found her soulmate. She proves that true love actually is possible. She also believes that love is important and a significant part in life; she must have believed that if she lived with her husband for 70 years. In Our Town, George and Emily go to a drug store to drink sodas. George tells Emily, "I think that once you've found a person that you're very fond of...I mean a person who's fond of you too, and likes you enough to be interested in your character...Well, I think that's just as important as college is, and even more so." George, like the woman in the poem, believes love plays a major role in life; he believes it is something worth pursuing. Most people have two beliefs: either they hold love to be important, or they do not think it plays a major role in life. This makes people similar in the aspect of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Kaluli People of Papua New Guinea in the Book, The... The, "Sorrow of the Lonely and the Burning of the Dancers", is a ethnography written by anthropologist Edward Schieffelin, derived from his fieldwork with the Kaluli people of Papua New Guinea. The main focus of the book of the book is how many of the fundamental notions that are implicit in Kaluli culture are found in the Gisaro ceremony, which Schieffelin uses as, "a lens through which to view some of the fundamental issues of Kaluli life and society" (p1). The first chapter gives a brief account of the Gisaro ceremony, where a group of singers and dancers from one longhouse community, or aa, perform at another aa. What makes the ceremony so interesting is that the performance of the dancers and singers is tailored to provoke strong emotions of sorrow amongst the host audience, who in response will burn the dancers across the back and shoulders with resin torches. The ceremony clearly fascinated Schieffelin, and translates through his writing, as his his description of the Gisaro paints a vivid picture which allows the reader to share his fascination as well. The following chapters look at different aspects of Kaluli everyday life. Schieffelin himself asserts that he does not approach the study of Kaluli society and culture from a structural perspective, but is instead is more interested in how social relationships and cultural ideas are expressed and conceived through everyday life. This approach, personally, is much more interesting as it allows Schieffelin to delve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Cultural Factors In The Sociocultural Environment There are many things in life that influence our development in some shape or form. Whether in a positive or negative way, influence is something that surrounds us, our children and family and may determine the way we develop. We are all prone to influences in our environment. Although there are many factors that influence us, one specific example are the sociocultural factors we are surrounded by in our everyday lives. This paper will be discussing the strengths and weaknesses in the sociocultural environment that influence both children and families. Growing up in dangerous neighborhoods, having neglectful parents, or simply going through natural disasters are a few negative ways sociocultural factors may influence the way children and families develop. There are many people living in "safe" neighborhoods but there is also a decent amount of families who are living in very dangerous areas. There are areas in this city where crime is rarely ever seen, but there are also many areas where crime is seen on a daily basis and many families are going through that and have to either see it or live through it. This impacts a child a whole lot because they grow up hearing about people getting shot, people drug dealing, being addicted to alcohol and a variety of negative lifestyles children and families should not have to live through. Sadly, sometimes in between all this going on, children grow up having parents that may always be working or worse, be criminals. The parents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Everyday Life Everyday life can be a difficult and amorphous concept to grapple with. This essay will consider the various aspects of Scott's definition of what "Everyday life" is and to what extent I agree with it. In its most simplistic and stripped down form, Scott's suggests that it's a study of 'people doing little things in local places' or more succinctly 'the wider picture' (Scott, 2009, p1). Everyday life can also be viewed as a person seeking solace in the familiarity of repetitive and rhythmic routines (Scott, 2009). Scott's final assertion is that everyday life exists in the realm of a person's individual and private choices, which have a bearing on that person's patterns of behaviour (Scott, 2009). Scott specifically touches on seven... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scott also makes the point that a person's so called private life, has an impact on everyday life and should be studied to find linkages in a broader sense, on larger public issue's (Scott, 2009). The distinction which Scott makes here and I agree with, is that mundane things people do in the privacy of their own homes, while obviously having no social connotations, are still reflective upon that person's everyday life (Scott, 2009). This is reflected by Moran, perhaps spuriously as; everyone coming home after work, nuking a TV dinner, brainlessly watching the idiot box and tucking themselves into bed (Moran, 2008). Maybe a more scandalous example is that of sexual betrayal's, and what can be a rapid expansion from a micro issue in a person's private life to a broader issue that impacts on families and broader society (Bennett, 1994). Jacobsen briefly touches on this in support of Scott, by describing everyday life in terms of having; 'a place, space, location, domain' connotation, 'a temporal dimension' i.e. relating to time and as having 'an attitude, mentality or state of consciousness', so when deconstructed it speaks to where everyday life happens, with what regularity and the scrutinization that takes places (Jacobsen, 2009, p14). To conclude, I premised this essay on everyday life being an almost intangible concept, in Scott's words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. 'Trauma Of Everyday Life' After reading the "Trauma of Everyday Life", what I found intriguing was what the Buddha called "Realistic View". According to the realistic View, "trauma neither a mistake nor a failure" (Epstein, 2003, p. 2). I agree with this because I have lost relatives in my life but I did not consider them to be mistakes or failure, I accepted that they had to go because it was their time. The only thing I regretted is that I did not spend as much as I would love. I was raised a Christian and belong to a Pentecostal church. Since moving to New York I have one been to church a couple of times but I still consider myself a Christian. I believe spirituality and religion are important aspects of a person's life. • 37. Erving Goffman's Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life Erving Goffman was a Canadian–born sociologist and writer. He was made a president of the American Sociological Association. His best–known involvement and contribution to the social sciences is his theory of symbolic interaction and dramaturgy, which began with his 1959 book The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life. This report explains that individuals have the ability to choose their stage, the character they play, and the costume they wear in specific social situations (Goffman, 1959). He also worked with the total institution model, and used it to construct his studies, mostly in Asylums. A total institution is a residence and workplace for similar people, who are cut off from the wider society for an amount of time, and who altogether, lead an enclosed form of life (Frank, 2002). This ties in with his next book about mental institutions, where he theorized that if people are treated, as they are a societal burden and placed in an institution with others, they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He describes how the institution associates people into the role of a 'good patient', who is someone that is blindly obedient, "dull, harmless and inconspicuous" (Goffman, 1961). He describes how the debilitating environment in the institutions affect individuals perception of self worth, no matter how therapeutic or non–therapeutic a hospital and program is (Pilgrim and Rogers, 2008). People come from their own social frameworks, where they occupy diverse roles. When institutionalized, these individuals are stripped of their 'sense of themselves' leading to what Goffman described as 'disculturation' (Davidson et, al. 2011). Instead of treating mental health as an illness, 'disculturation' leads to demoralization, deterioration, and leaves people virtually incapable of managing their own lives in the 'real world', which leaves them requiring to remain institutionalized (Davidson et, al. ... • 38. The Swimmer Theme We ignore it, we do not realize it and we certainly do not want to come to terms with it but at the end of the day, irrespective of how we, humans, feel about it, the passage of time is inevitable. Time is taken for granted, it is not something we pay much attention to in our everyday lives – most of us cannot even afford to do so. Our lives are slow, as is the process of realizing that we are gradually being absorbed into oblivion, disappearing bit by bit in our own time and turning ourselves into mere memories that in the grand scheme of things are virtually irrelevant. The Swimmer by John Cheever is a short story that, in an incredibly accurate manner, illustrates how the neglect of reality can impair a person's judgment and understanding of time, and negatively influence their lives. Perhaps, the larger idea the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His journey signifies the period of time in which he ignored most events of his life, important or not, and suppressed the influence of reality on his life. The pools that Neddy swims through represent those periods of time. In the beginning, he is strong but eventually his powers wear off. He is reluctant to dive in and continue swimming as he once was. He is no longer physically able to drag himself across all those pools and finish the journey he started. Initially, the journey goes smoothly with Neddy being well welcomed and received by his neighbors. He stops by his neighbors' houses to get drinks and have short chats with the hosts before he moves on to the neighboring pools. However, the changes soon start to take effect. The pools are getting colder which makes it increasingly harder for Neddy to swim through. This transition showcases the changes Neddy goes through – he is getting older and weaker and his journey as a result becomes more difficult. These changes act as a metaphor not for the journey itself but rather for the larger portions of Neddy's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nagle Delaware Technical Community College Critical Analysis of The Robot Invasion In the article The Robot Invasion by Charles Gillis, it talks about in the not too distant future how robotics will be a part of everyday society, how it will be used in manufacturing and labor industry instead of people for jobs that are dirty, dangerous, and difficult. The author argues that the world will be swarming with the robotics in the future which will change the job industry and even how basic chores are done around the house. The world is changing as the technology of robots are slowly taking over jobs, is not a too farfetched argument. "For many years the work of engineers and sci–fi... These robots have already taken the place of lots of warehouse workers, but at the same time have opened the door for newer jobs that require workers to program and interface with the robots to get the job done correctly. These robots really show how robots will be moving into the workplaces to change how people will do jobs. As this is happening now in the industry, it will be more commonly seen as the technology advances and cost of the robots is more manageable for the efficiency that it provides.
