Socio Economic Aspects Of Small Scale Farming Farmers
CHAPTER 2 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 SOCIO–ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF SMALL–
SCALE LIVESTOCK FARMERS The research and development community faces the challenge of
sustaining livestock productivity in order both to improve rural livelihoods and secure
environmental sustainability in the developing countries. Current understanding of livestock
productivity is incomplete and, hence, the need to update existing knowledge and to assess the role
of livestock farmers in bringing about a significant improvement to their livelihoods. In addition,
there is a need to pay more attention to the relative contributions of livestock farmers to the different
sources of their livelihood and the way in which these vary between households, the extent to which

Smallholder livestock keepers are characterised by the following: They tend to operate with limited
resources relative to other producers in the sector, They have low levels of formal education and
training and they keep their animals on communal, rather than private, land or they may be landless.
Smallholder livestock keeping is usually a family enterprise that practises either subsistence
production or a mix of subsistence and commercial production. The family is the major source of
labour, and livestock production is often the main source of income. They have limited access to
input and output to markets and to services and credit with most of their market interaction taking
place in informal local markets, for which they produce local or traditional products. They routinely
face high transaction costs in respect of securing quality inputs and gaining market recognition for
quality outputs (FAO, 2009a). Smallholder livestock keepers tend not to purchase production inputs
and the majority of these inputs come from the farm itself or from local grazing land as part of a
closed nutrient cycle. These smallholder livestock keepers operate at the lower end of the production
curve, where small additional inputs lead to substantial increases in productivity (FAO, 2009a).

Argumentation on TANF a form of Medicaid Essay
Argumentation on TANF a form of Medicaid North Carolina's Temporary Assistance for Needy
Families (TANF) program is one of the primary forms of Medicaid. TANF is also called Work First,
which is based on the premise that parents have a responsibility to support themselves and their
children. Through Work First, parents can get short–term training and other services to help them
become employed and self–sufficient later on, but the responsibility is theirs to find the actual job.
Most families have two years or less to move off Work First Family Assistance and after that they
are completely on their own. According to a document found on Civic Report, the sixty percent of

By doing this it regulates the suggested amount of money to be given out but placed restrictions
upon on how one may utilize those resources. By the government using the word ignorant, it feels
that if you have a job or no job or limited amount of resources coming into the household, it means
that at some point you were incapable of maintaining a well–balanced lifestyle for yourself. Despite
our country's wishes, the picture of welfare paints a face of the minority woman.
In a way, one could view this as a way that the system is being cheated. According to Malcolm
Wiener, professor of Social Policy at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, the
nation's 3.7 million welfare families confront an urgent problem: they do not get enough money
from welfare to pay their bills. Nor can most single mothers earn enough to cover their expenses.
The only way most welfare recipients can keep their families together is to combine work and
welfare. Yet if they report that they are working, the welfare department will soon reduce their
checks by almost the full amount of their earnings, leaving them as desperate as before. The only
way most recipients can make ends meet, therefore, is to supplement their welfare checks without
telling the welfare department that they are working.
I feel that this is accurate information because I

Single Parent Families Case Study
Introduction:
As many families in today's society suffer to make ends meet, it is important to remember, "Parents
with meager means have the same aspirations for their children as other parents. Children from poor
families have the same needs as other children" as Mark Sanford (2015) once said. In every family
scenario, the basic life can be affected based on the economic situation each family is in. Each
family, when put in various scenarios deals with certain circumstances differently. The family
scenario that will be applied throughout this essay was based in a single–parent household, where
the father had just passed away; there were also two children which the mother had to support on a
low wage job. Within this type of family, it was noticed how it may become difficult for single
parents to conquer all the issues going on in their lives . (Statistics Canada, 2017) Throughout the
many families across Canada, 17% of children live below the poverty line (Stats. Can 2017). When
analyzing the mother's income of $3,146 a month, 37,750 a year, it becomes obvious how easily it
can become to fall into poverty with only one income, at a close to minimum wage position. Due to
the many children in these situations living in a single parent household (Rothman, 2007), the
government chose to reach out to these families and provide extra support (Statistics Canada, 2017
2). It is important to give these families an opportunity to succeed and to further their chances of

Family Therapy
Introduction
Family therapy is a form of psychotherapy employed to assist members of a family in improving
communication systems, conflict resolution, and to help the family to deal with certain problems
that manifest in the behavior of members. In most cases, deviance in a family member is an
indication of underlying family dysfunctions. This paper looks the counselling procedure that can be
applied to help the Kline family solve their problems. It answers certain questions including those of
the expected challenges during therapy and ways of dealing with the challenges.

The counselor will ask questions to clarify and summarize the family's concerns. I will answer any
questions and address any concerns raised by the family about the therapy process. I will also assist
in laying down parental authority and a sense of impartiality among the children. This will reinstate
equilibrium in the family and motivate all members to participate in the therapy.
Each family member will be taught on the importance of listening to the issues raised other
members of the family. This will lay down the foundation for the future sessions. I will also coach
the members of the Kline household on how to provide suitable feedback on issues raised by other
family members. The session shall also entail a discussion of the expectations of each family
member. It is a good point to begin instructing the family on the necessary required in order for
those changes to be achieved.

In her essay, she informs us about how the extra work towards mothers is affecting them. She shows

In an article on the Daily News called, "Is sharing housework the key to marital bliss? Splitting
chores keeps couples happier, study suggests," states, "Researchers examined the beliefs, behaviors,
and marital quality of 220 heterosexual newlywed couples and, like the 2012 study, found that
splitting household tasks affected wives' marital satisfaction but not their husbands'. Particularly,
wives who appreciated equal sharing of housework were notably happier if their husbands shared
those beliefs, pointing to the significance of coming to an understanding early on. "Newlyweds need
to thoughtfully organize how they can make their expectations about sharing chores work out in real
life, especially if the new spouses strongly value gender equality in household labor," said study co–
author Brian G. Ogolsky. He suggested getting the negotiating out of the way in the first two years
of marriage, before long–term patterns are set. "The most satisfied couples have corresponding
expectations and follow through on them," Ogolsky said." In this study, it shows how if men were to

1. (Evolution of the Household) Determine whether each of the following would increase or

answers.
a. Higher levels of education for women
b. Higher unemployment rates for women
c. Higher average pay levels for women
d. Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of women
Higher levels of education for women would increase the opportunity cost for women chosing to
work outside the home. The opportunity cost rises because as a women's education level increases,
so does the available positions the woman is qualified for, hence a higher level of income. This
means a woman chosing not to work outside the home is forgoing the opportunity for higher
education for women to benefit her and her potential to earn higher wages. ... Show more content on

Fewer positions equal fewer opportunities. Therefore, women chosing not to work outside the home
are not effected by higher employment rates for women. Higher average pay levels for women
would increase the opportunity cost. Women chosing to work outside the home would have more
opportunity at higher wages. Whereas, women chosing not to work outside the home relinquish the
higher earnings. Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of
women would mean fewer positions available for women choosing to work outside the home,
causing the opportunity costs to fall. Again, this would have very little effect on women choosing to
not work outside the home. McEachern, W. A. (2015). ECON macroeconomics (4th ed.). Stamford,

The Negative Effects Of Social Influence On Identity...
Social influence is present in all areas of human lives. Society influences people's perceptions,
attitudes, judgments, opinions or behaviors. That is why every individual modifies their action based
on the interaction they have with their environment. This influence is due to the relationship with
people, groups, institutions and with society in general. The environment has a bad influence on
identity development because people tend to follow what the others say and assimilate of
themselves. Society influences people negatively because it is mostly focused on the betterment of
yourself and not on people as a community. Also, family have a negative impact on the personality
of the household members because family have the biggest role in the lives of individuals. The
relationships between the members of the household, determine the values, affections, and attitudes
of the children who want to assimilate it. Therefore, the family is the most central influence in the
lives of people. In Welty Eudora, "Why I live at the P.O." family environment has a decisive
influence on the members of the household personality. Sister and Stella are two sisters who are
always against each other because it appears that their parents favor more Stella than Sister. Besides,
Sister feels better when Stella is not at home since Stella is not getting Sister into trouble. Sister

Essay about Compare and Contrast Traditional and Modern...
Faouzi NOURI–GIRONES CIT 071807 Compare and contrast traditional and modern families
Since the nineteenth century, in the western societies, family patterns changed under the forces of
industrialisation and urbanisation. Another factor which has been involved in those changes is the
growing intervention of the state, by legislative action, in the domestic affairs of the family. As a
result of these trends, the modern "nuclear" family has been substituted for the traditional extended
family. The increase of values such as individualism and egalitarism has influenced the patterns of ...

In addition, in the traditional families the mother usually bore the sole responsibility of the child
caring. Modern parents now share this responsibility together because of social and work
constraints. However, holidays which are not common in the traditional family, allow them to spend
quality time with their children. Moreover in many modern families the father becomes a house
worker, to provide for the needs of his children. As the statistics shown in the United Kingdom in
2001, 155 000 fathers were stay home husbands. All in all, the emphasis on nurturing children can
be seen in traditional and modern families, alike.
Apart from the similarities mentioned above, traditional and modern families have several
differences in the areas of family size and gender roles.
One major difference between the traditional and modern family is the decrease in family size. The
traditional family tends to be extended with three or more generations in the same household
because it provides a strong union between its members. Another reason for a large household is that
usually farming was the principal economic activity of the family 1 members. In contrast, the
modern family household contains two generations, parents and dependants children. Unlike the
traditional family the modern

Should Telecommuting Be Encouraged For Society?
'Telecommuting' refers to workers doing their jobs from home for part of each week and
communicating with their office using computer technology. Telecommuting is growing in many
countries and is expected to be common for most office workers in the coming decades. How do you
think society will be affected by the growth of telecommuting? Should telecommuting be
encouraged for society?
(Telecommuting is the use of computers and telephones to enable an employee to work off–site and
outside the traditional workplace)
A topic which has created much controversy is whether telecommuting should be encouraged or not.
This issue is very crucial since it influences several aspects in people lives, both in positive and
negative ways. This essay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, as Desrochers claims, work–family blurring can be minimized by keeping a consistent
schedule through boundary activities such as discouraging family members from disrupting one's
work and working only in a particular room of the home (2003:5). In addition, telecommuting
provides flexible work hours, which allows telecommuters to spend more time at home with their
families so as to strengthen emotional ties within them. Therefore, as Raines and Leathers explain
"telecommuters perceive the consequences of the alternative workplace to be an improved quality of
home"(2001:2).
Many people contend that telecommuting might pose telecommuters to problems of reduced health.
Lack of mobility in doing their work and "alienation from workplace dynamics" are claimed as
contributing factor of stress which may result in stress related illness for telecommuters (Raines and
Leathers, 2001:3). However, there is growing evidence that telecommuting brings significant safety
and health benefits. As Johnson states, less commuting frequency in telecommuting diminishes risk
of "traffic related injuries" (1998:1). This also leads to a decrease in pollution rate which will be
followed by reduction in the risk of pollution related illness such as respiratory infection. Moreover,
work schedule flexibility in telecommuting allows workers to have more time for "personal growth
activities" (see www.csus.edu/indiv.v/velianitis/101) such as sport

The Issues And Effects Of Military Families
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the issues and effects of military families and how they cope
with deployments and reintegration. That is, by exploring many interventions and programs such as
Operation Purple Camp, Military Child Education Coalition, and Families Overcoming under Stress.
These programs should be utilized more often in order for families and children to effectively cope
with military stress from deployments and reintegration. Three common themes that were analyzed
in the literature review which are 1) Effects of Deployment and Reintegration of Military Families
and Children; 2) Interventions for Children of Deployed or Reintegrated Parents; and 3)
Maltreatment with Children of Deployed and Reintegrated parents. Specifically, this paper analyzes
issues that fall under each of these three themes. That is, School and Educational Effects and
Deployment, Psychosocial and Behavioral Effects of Deployment, Education and School
Environment Intervention Programs, and Family Focused Intervention programs.
Introduction
One of the most difficult challenges that military families and children have to face is deployment
and reintegration. When Service individuals are deployed on extensive missions, the capacity to
viably adapt to the separation is imperative for keeping up individual well–being and health for
families and children (Delahaij, 2016). Families and children deal with a lengthy amount of
stressors. The most commons stressors that

Advantages And Differences Between Two Career And...
There are advantages and disadvantages do both two–career and one–career families. A two–career
house requires each parent holding a substantial, full time job. Both are out of the house for a good
part of the day, which would call for child care if they have kids who are too young to stay at home
alone. Having a two career family takes longer for parents to build a bond with their child. A one–
career family involves one parent working and the other at homing taking care of the children. This
keeps the children less unsatisfied. Looking at it this way makes one think that a one–career family
would be better for a family.
There are many things that can differ when talking about a two–career and a one–career family. One
is time a parent and a child spend together. Things that are very important when raising a child is
time spent with the child and giving the child free time for entertaining activities. This is very easy
to accomplish in a one–career household due to the one stay at home parent. With this, the child
lives a more diverse life, which is what every parent wants in their kid. The child that is attended to
at a young age will often be lead to treating their own children the same way.

These differences are important because it can determine what kind of person the child will grow up
to be. There seems to be more benefits in a one–career household as opposed to a two–career. The
advantages and disadvantages, are clear to see in every household. Children from a one–career
family with a stay–at–home parent can lead to a beneficial effect on a child's future. As a child
grows up, they start to realize all the lessons they have been taught as a kid and begin to utilize them
to help them become more successful later on in life. One would think that a one–career family
would be the most beneficial when it comes to raising a family opposed to a

Exploring the Sharp Rise in Dual-Career Families Essay
Most everyone was raised in a family that had two working parents. Even now most married adults
are working couples. According to a survey, "the percentage of dual–income families has increased
sharply over the past 30 years." As more and more female enter the work force more single family
careers are turning into two–career families. In this economy can a family actually afford not to have
both adults working? Whether it's for money, wanting to seek a goal or just to benefit your family,
the dual–career family has taken place of the single career family.
First lets define "dual–career family", according to the dictionary, the dual–career family is "one in

An example would be who would be the bread winner of the family. A woman may be trying to
juggle her career and family. This may be very difficult trying to play wife–mother role (nurturance,
emotionality, responsiveness) while balancing her career role. A man too may struggle with his
definition of masculine and feminine roles as it has been taught to him. He may think that he is to be
expected to be the head of the household, to be the one who earns the money and has the "power".
For the most part men aren't taught to fill the role in child rearing or homemaking. Even if he has
had the skills he may see it as a waste of time and may hurt his career. Other hand in a single career
family there is no guess as to whose role is what. There is the one that brings in the money, he or she
is in the "bread winners" role and then there is the one that stays home and takes care of things there.
They know their roles in the household and there is no question about it.
Another challenge of the two–career family is that one person may take a back seat for the others
career and the result maybe a person not reaching their full potential career wise. Other the hand the
single–career family doesn't have to worry about this, since there is one person with a career that
individual is able to keep going as far as his or her career will take them.
Another challenge is when most couple tries to share the load. When this

workplaces being supportive of their employees efforts of combining family and work commitments

The "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" are damaging behaviors identified from research
conducted by social psychologist John Gottman. The ways these feeling are expressed is destructive
and are associated with couples whose relationship will more than likely end in divorce. The "Four
Horseman" are contempt, criticism, defensiveness, and stonewalling. Contempt, such as an eye roll,
is an attack towards another's sense of self with the intention of psychologically abuse or an insult. It
often leaves the spouse feeling inferior or undesired. Criticism, for example a verbal attack towards
another's personality or their character, entails producing disapproving judgments or evaluations
meant to indicate the faults one one's partner. Defensiveness, like viewing oneself as the victim to
deflect a forthcoming verbal attack and ultimately reverse the blame, is mentally preparing oneself
against a presumed upcoming attack. Stonewalling, an example being withdrawn so as to avoid
conflict to distance oneself from disapproval, is the act of refuting complaints and refusing to give
them serious consideration. When using any of the "Four Horsemen" during a developing argument,
the couple's quarrel will often escalate rather quickly leaving both involved feeling contemptuous
towards the other party and allow what could be a trivial issue to balloon into a much larger
problem. This would leave the parties defensive towards each other and with negative feeling

Miller And Liz Aldermen Analysis
I think all women should have a choice in anything they do. The choice between having a career,

The Effects on Children Who Have Been Raised in a Single Parent Household
Introduction
Single parent house hold's can have many different social, mental, and emotional effects on the
children who are raised in this kind of household. The effects of children raised by a single parent in
the household, whether it is the mother or the father, are often negative effects. These negative
effects include facing Economic Hardship, lack of support from family, and other emotional and
social distress. Stress is a common factor of these kind of effects. Stress can affect a child and make
it hard for them to succeed in various situations that are crucial to their future. I will be looking at

Nell Vyse Research Paper
The First Assistant From 1919, Vyse worked single–handedly in his Cheyne Row studio. However,
it soon became apparent to Vyse that he required a capable assistant to relieve him of minor studio
chores. For instance, the making of secondary plaster moulds was a time–consuming process, which
Vyse felt he could not spare. Bertha White (1900– nd.) came to him with a recommendation from his
former Art School in Hanley where she had studied modelling. She was aged about nineteen when
she joined Vyse at Cheyne Row.16 In her later life, as Mrs Bertha Boydell (nee White), she
corresponded with the writer J V G Mallet. It is from her letters to Mallet that one learns that when
she arrived at the Cheyne Row, Vyse had only just acquired a gas–fired kiln ... Show more content

Effects Of Parental Investment On Children
Parental investment includes any investment by the parent in an individual offspring that increases
the offspring's chances of survival, at the cost of the parent's ability to invest in other offspring
(Travier, 1972). Since investing on themselves is as important as investing on their children, parents
have to choose between caring for a child and acquiring the resources needed to insure their own
productive and reproductive successes (Turner & McAndrew, 2006). This choice can be influenced
by the social, cultural and economic factors at household level, and by socio–demographic factors at
individual level. These factors may vary from culture to culture and overtime. However, the
following variables are the most frequently cited determinants of parental investment on children.
i) Gender; the gender of the parent is the most widely reported determinant of parent`s willingness
to invest on children. This is mentioned across disciplines, from biology through social
anthropology, with similar conclusions but different explanations. There is consensus that the gender
identity of the parent through which income is received determines how the resources are invested
on child welfare. Studies (Agarwal, 1997; Kabeer, 2000) indicated that income injected into the
household through the mother do more justice to the welfare of children compared to resources
injected through the father. Similarly, an exogenous increase in mothers income has a larger effect
on children`s outcomes than

Pursuit Of Happiness Movie Analysis
The film The Pursuit of Happyness has a wide range of social problems that included and has an
affect on society. The main character Chris a pharmaceutical representative who is having trouble

After becoming homeless, he finds an internship that could possibly turn into a job. He eventually is

believed and counted on him to do what he needed to get done. When Chris tried to sell his bone

the maximum amount of money on products that are similar. He had to continue to sell his product
and try to make money. Not everyone would have enough money to be able to support their family.

were more likely to be poor than were families with male householder and snow spouse present,

Medea And Antigone Analysis
Antigone by Sophocles and Medea by Euripides are two plays whose main characters are their
namesakes. Antigone is a play based on Antigone's response to the death of her brothers and Medea
is a play based on Medea's response to her husband Jason leaving her to marry the daughter of a
king. Both Antigone and Medea are women fighting against oppression by directly disobeying the
law. However, they use different tactics in their battles, and they have different reasons for fighting.
In the end, both make their point by bringing down the royal households. These women effectively
fight oppression in their own ways. To begin, both Antigone and Medea were fighting oppression by
breaking the law. In Antigone, the first evidence of oppression was directly on her late brother,
Polyneices. After he died fighting his own brother.over the rule of Thebes, Creon, the man now
ruling, decreed that Polyneices was not to have a proper burial.
"But as for Polyneices, Creon has ordered that none shall bury him or mourn for him;
He must be left to lie unwept, unburied,
For hungry birds of prey to swoop and feast
On his poor body" (Sophocles 26–30)
Though this order was made, Antigone disregarded it and buried her brother. The main point for her
doing this was to stand up for her religious beliefs, which she was then oppressed for. While she was
being confronted by Creon about her actions, she said, "Nor could I think that a decree of yours–/A
man–could override the laws of Heaven" (453–454). Antigone believed that it was the law of the
gods for a person to have a proper burial so, she disobeyed Creon's law in order to obey the gods,
who she deemed as more important due to their eternal state (457).
In Medea, all of the oppression lies directly on Medea and her children. First, she must fight the
oppression of Jason abandoning her and her children. Then, on top of that she has Creon, the king
who is also Jason's new father–in–law, come to her and say, "Medea, I hereby announce that you
must leave this land, an exile, taking with you
Your two children. You must not delay" (Euripides 278–280).
Creon continues by telling Medea that he has heard of plans she has made to harm him, his
daughter, and Jason and is exiling her

The Importance Of Carer's Leave

What constitutes a family? A husband, a wife, and kids? Your Aunties, Uncles, and cousins maybe?

If there is a death in your immediate or extended family, you get to use this leave, however, if it is a
pet you are not entitled to it. No matter who dies in your family, it is always hard on a person, even
if you weren't that close to the deceased, it is still hard. What about the pet that is there every day to
greet you, who still loves you no matter what you do. Does this mean that you will feel less pain if
your pet is the deceased? Wouldn't it be better all round, if an employee knows that they can grieve
for their four–legged fur baby, without worrying about work, instead of coming to work and
breaking down at their desk, and possibly get no work done? It is also possible that a colleague will
console you which means both of you don't get much work done. Wouldn't it be more beneficial for
the Employer, if bereavement was given in these circumstances? Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants,
San Francisco leads the way by offering a three–day pet–bereavement leave to its employees (2)
There could be many ways that people may try and 'milk' the system which could be a reason why
this is a topic of debate but, if the animals are 'family members,' then there is reason to believe that
owners should have just as much right to use their sick leave for their ailing pet, and bereavement
leave for their deceased. Fact is that losing a beloved pet is no different to losing a child or close
relative. 'Immediate family and household members'

Well, family can have many different definitions for different people. For example, when Emika
first received the bad news he wanted to meet with his friends, "Instead, he called his friends and
asked if they wanted to meet up for beer and catfish at the popular Best Restaurant." (Unigwe). In
this situation, Emeka reaches out to friends to help cheer him up after the bad news, which is exactly
what a family member would do if you were sad about something bad happening. For many people
friends are considered family, or a part of their family because their friends would help them, give
them courage, and be there for them when they need it, which are all characteristics of a good
family. This also applies if you are are young. For instance, of the Syrian refugees coming to the US.

The Conflict Within The Family, By Alison Bechdel, Joan...
Families, which are basic units of human commit, are constructed from individuals with unique
character; these individuals taken as a whole, construct the larger character of the family itself.
However, because no individual's character is perfectly compatible with another's, there exist
inevitable conflict within the family, such as can be expressed as conflict between the self and either
another single member or the entire group. Naturally, the rational self will seek to ameliorate such as
conflict, perhaps by simply accepting it as a natural part of human life. Other instances, which form
the basis of the essay and find roots in essays by Alison Bechdel, Joan Didion, and Richard
Rodriguez, occur when such acceptance does not. I strongly suggest that the common response to
familial conflict, avoidance, that is, escaping the friction between human characters by refusing on
some level to participate in family, introduces a new conflict. While Didion, Bechdel, and
Rodriguez, provide textual support to the birth of this second conflict, I shall seek to explain its
nature. Born of contrasting characters in family and self, conflict will not be replaced, but bolstered
in avoidance. Thus, in acceptance, the self finds resolution. Though I say it nonetheless, it is fairly
obvious that most people participate in some kind of a familial unit as previously described, and
thus are familiar with the conflicts to which I alluded. The piece by Joan Didion, entitled "On Going

Compare How Two Common Pressures Affecting Children's Demands
Two common pressures that can tear at marriages are the demands of careers and the demands of
children's schedules. In today's society we see much less emphasis placed on "family first" and more
focus and energy going into carrier demands and activities. We work hard and we play hard. Many
of today careers seem to require longer hours, more work travel, more expectations from employers,
etc. I've see so many where work has become their highest priority, even over their families because
they feel the financial pressure to make money. I've seen a pattern in couples who feel like they need
to "do whatever it takes" for their careers and sacrifice, many times without being aware, healthy
boundaries to protect their relationship with each

Child Poverty : An Increasing Number Of Families
Child poverty in Britain affects an increasing number of families; the most recent statistics from
2014–2015 show that poverty affects 1 in 4 children in the UK today1. The cause of child poverty
has many contributing factors and creates multiple issues for the individuals affected. Child poverty
in Britain is much different than the television adverts that show the awful living conditions of
children in third world countries, however still has devastating outcomes for those experiencing
poverty. Our standard of living is much different and therefore we must compare poverty in Britain
to the living standards that we are accustomed to in society today; this concept was introduced by
sociologist Peter Townsend in 1979 who defined poverty as; 'Individuals, families and groups in the
population can be said to be in poverty when they lack resources to obtain the type of diet,
participate in the activities and have the living conditions and amenities which are customary, or at
least widely encouraged and approved, in the societies in which they belong.' 2 Child poverty within
Britain is the limited income which causes families to be unable to provide the essential resources
needed to live at an adequate standard in relation to society. There are a number of reasons as to why
a family lives in poverty, such as illness or disability. A person with a disability may be unable to
find employment and therefore relies on financial support from the state however due to changes in

Book Review: The Second Shift
It is believed that women have to work more than men. However, focuses upon studying the history
of the society, they are never given an acknowledgment for this matter. With the passage of time,
women start getting the equal importance in the society and they receive the right of engaging in the
professional activities (Arlie Russell & Anne, 1989). Still, in spite of having professional
commitments, they do not get freedom from the childcare and other household activates, which
doubles up their burden. On the other hand, men enjoy freedom from the household undertakings
with excuses of their professional obligations.
The Second Shift, by Arlie Hochschild, is a book, which sheds light on the women–men work
disparity in the family domain. Basically, in this book, it encompasses different results of the
surveys, conducted by the author on the theme of the marital responsibility. It indeed portrays the
prevailing inequality between men and women in the human society when it comes to share the
domestic obligations. It also extracts the types of couples and their preference on this matter from
this survey (Arlie Russell & Anne, 1989). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stay At Home Mom Vs Working Mom Summary
Dr. Phil is the author of the article titled "Stay–at–Home Moms vs. Working Moms" on the Dr. Phil
website. The idea of women becoming an active member of the workforce has been quite an issue
for a long time. Before proper child care in the past, there was even a study conducted on children
with working moms to determine the negative impacts mothers in the workforce had on their
children, and they concluded with quite a bit of data. However, this article mentions a new recent
study in which they determined that maternal employment has no detrimental impacts on children.

People may say that an early relationship must be developed between children and their parents for
proper development, but in the article Dr. Phil argues, "children who are in quality day care have
increases in cognitive skills, intellect, social skills and social comfort"(Mcgraw 2003). I agree with
what he says since child care services allow children to interact with other children around their age,
allowing them to develop good social skills. Since in the present day, we have good quality child
care services, it's safe to assume that working moms could lead to the greater good. Next, since the
dominant male already plays the role of a provider in the family, sharing this role with the woman in
the family will lower the burden of family responsibilities on both the husband and the wife. Having
two members of the family work will not only benefit the economy, it will also stabilize the family
financially and it will allow the children to spend more time with their father which they wouldn't
have if the father was working all day. Since working mothers leads to such a great benefit

Why Do Young Adults Move Into Share Housing
The allure of house sharing: Strangers and a mutual microwave
Michaela Daly
ABSTRACT Social change within the western context has redefined the concepts of "adulthood"
and "house formation". Despite an increasing decline in marriage between the ages of 20 and 29,
young individuals continue to leave their parental homes. The previous literature identifies both
social and economic motivations what continues to be this defining moment of independence. This
research project attempts to demonstrate the reasons for which young adults seeking such
independence engage in share housing.
Background
Share housing has become increasingly popular since the mid–twentieth century (Goldsheider &
DaVanzo 1989). Once assumed to be a product of economic constraint, particularly among students,
share house living has since become a representation of modern adulthood. Historically, marriage
was the most powerful motivator for young adults, particularly women, to leave their parental home
(Pooley and Turnbull 1997). Between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries, the transition to
adulthood was defined by, and adult identity rooted in, the attainment of "spousal status" with the
formulation of a family to follow (Kenyon & Heath 2001b). The wealth of literature on the
transition to adulthood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overarching enquiries of this research seek to determine: What age do young adults move into
share houses? Was the move into a share house voluntary or involuntary? Are economic
considerations apparent in the choice to join a share house? To what degree do social considerations
influence their choice? How is independence impacted by living in a share house? Researching these
questions will provide insight into the changing attitudes towards the traditional forms of household
and transition to adulthood, as well as how young adults perceive expectations of

Family Development : Family Dynamic Development
Family Dynamic Development
Think about a child that has to go through parents fighting over them, and having to make big
decisions like which side to go on along with the separation of their family. Parental guardians
actions greatly affect children's lives along with constant change within households, which delays
their development and the upbringing of that child. After a change in routine, they have unneeded
and unnecessary stress, which makes them worry and think about irrelevant things. Although
bullying and community influence can be linked to teenage development, the ever–changing family
dynamics in the United States within the 21st century delays a child's emotional and mental
development.
Academic Performance
Children in non–intact families are more likely to have lower GPA, worse test score and were less
likely to extend their education. A specialist in adolescent development, Daniel Shek illustrates that
research also demonstrated that children coming from non–intact groups had lower level GPAs and
worse test scores, furthermore an awful academic self–concept. Children going alongside non–intact
groups were illustrated to drop out from high school, and were not as likely to attend college
compared to children from intact families (Shek 443). While experiencing a change with families
and having stress, it causes a child to not focus on school and causes them to focus on the effects of
this event. Children start to do bad in school and not really care at this

Shooting Down Man The Hunter Analysis
In reality, many families could not afford to live this type of lifestyle. In California alone, the
amount of money it costs to live here is extremely high, especially if a family only has one income.
Now to say that we went back to the 1950s lifestyle, the father would in a way be the only parent
bringing home a consistent income, making it extremely difficult for living if it is a family of four
people or more. The idea of bringing what we once had in the fifties and incorporating it into what
we have today is not realistic. Voters who agree with this statement have a lack of knowledge in
what we have as a society and population today and how it highly differs from what we had in the
50s. In the article, Shooting Down Man the Hunter, many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If we refer back to Gawande's, Mistrust of Science we can predict that not all "science" is reliable
science. There have been instances where we believed that "the sun moved across the sky" and that
when being out in the cold, we have a greater chance of getting sick. These are all said to be facts,
and they were even said by scientists. Though, we have to look deeper into the facts and the

science factual? When can we take the word of science and use it to gain more knowledge? This
article suggested that "all knowledge is just probable knowledge. A contradictory piece of evidence

because that specific question has been answered does not mean that it is the one and the only

Socio Economic Aspects Of Small Scale Farming Farmers CHAPTER 2 2 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 SOCIO–ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF SMALL– SCALE LIVESTOCK FARMERS The research and development community faces the challenge of sustaining livestock productivity in order both to improve rural livelihoods and secure environmental sustainability in the developing countries. Current understanding of livestock productivity is incomplete and, hence, the need to update existing knowledge and to assess the role of livestock farmers in bringing about a significant improvement to their livelihoods. In addition, there is a need to pay more attention to the relative contributions of livestock farmers to the different sources of their livelihood and the way in which these vary between households, the extent to which people are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Smallholder livestock keepers are characterised by the following: They tend to operate with limited resources relative to other producers in the sector, They have low levels of formal education and training and they keep their animals on communal, rather than private, land or they may be landless. Smallholder livestock keeping is usually a family enterprise that practises either subsistence production or a mix of subsistence and commercial production. The family is the major source of labour, and livestock production is often the main source of income. They have limited access to input and output to markets and to services and credit with most of their market interaction taking place in informal local markets, for which they produce local or traditional products. They routinely face high transaction costs in respect of securing quality inputs and gaining market recognition for quality outputs (FAO, 2009a). Smallholder livestock keepers tend not to purchase production inputs and the majority of these inputs come from the farm itself or from local grazing land as part of a closed nutrient cycle. These smallholder livestock keepers operate at the lower end of the production curve, where small additional inputs lead to substantial increases in productivity (FAO, 2009a). ... • 5. Argumentation on TANF a form of Medicaid Essay Argumentation on TANF a form of Medicaid North Carolina's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program is one of the primary forms of Medicaid. TANF is also called Work First, which is based on the premise that parents have a responsibility to support themselves and their children. Through Work First, parents can get short–term training and other services to help them become employed and self–sufficient later on, but the responsibility is theirs to find the actual job. Most families have two years or less to move off Work First Family Assistance and after that they are completely on their own. By doing this it regulates the suggested amount of money to be given out but placed restrictions upon on how one may utilize those resources. By the government using the word ignorant, it feels that if you have a job or no job or limited amount of resources coming into the household, it means that at some point you were incapable of maintaining a well–balanced lifestyle for yourself. Despite our country's wishes, the picture of welfare paints a face of the minority woman. In a way, one could view this as a way that the system is being cheated. According to Malcolm Wiener, professor of Social Policy at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, the nation's 3.7 million welfare families confront an urgent problem: they do not get enough money from welfare to pay their bills. Nor can most single mothers earn enough to cover their expenses. The only way most welfare recipients can keep their families together is to combine work and welfare. Yet if they report that they are working, the welfare department will soon reduce their checks by almost the full amount of their earnings, leaving them as desperate as before. The only way most recipients can make ends meet, therefore, is to supplement their welfare checks without telling the welfare department that they are working. I feel that this is accurate information because I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Single Parent Families Case Study Introduction: As many families in today's society suffer to make ends meet, it is important to remember, "Parents with meager means have the same aspirations for their children as other parents. Children from poor families have the same needs as other children" as Mark Sanford (2015) once said. In every family scenario, the basic life can be affected based on the economic situation each family is in. Each family, when put in various scenarios deals with certain circumstances differently. The family scenario that will be applied throughout this essay was based in a single–parent household, where the father had just passed away; there were also two children which the mother had to support on a low wage job. Within this type of family, it was noticed how it may become difficult for single parents to conquer all the issues going on in their lives . (Statistics Canada, 2017) Throughout the many families across Canada, 17% of children live below the poverty line (Stats. Can 2017). When analyzing the mother's income of $3,146 a month, 37,750 a year, it becomes obvious how easily it can become to fall into poverty with only one income, at a close to minimum wage position. Due to the many children in these situations living in a single parent household (Rothman, 2007), the government chose to reach out to these families and provide extra support (Statistics Canada, 2017 2). It is important to give these families an opportunity to succeed and to further their chances of getting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Family Therapy Introduction Family therapy is a form of psychotherapy employed to assist members of a family in improving communication systems, conflict resolution, and to help the family to deal with certain problems that manifest in the behavior of members. In most cases, deviance in a family member is an indication of underlying family dysfunctions. This paper looks the counselling procedure that can be applied to help the Kline family solve their problems. The counselor will ask questions to clarify and summarize the family's concerns. I will answer any questions and address any concerns raised by the family about the therapy process. I will also assist in laying down parental authority and a sense of impartiality among the children. This will reinstate equilibrium in the family and motivate all members to participate in the therapy. Each family member will be taught on the importance of listening to the issues raised other members of the family. This will lay down the foundation for the future sessions. I will also coach the members of the Kline household on how to provide suitable feedback on issues raised by other family members. The session shall also entail a discussion of the expectations of each family member. It is a good point to begin instructing the family on the necessary required in order for those changes to be achieved. 3. George does not seem very open to looking at his role in contributing to the problems within his family. If you were to see him as your client, how would you go about establishing a relationship with him? Resistance of certain clients to group therapy is among the many challenges that therapists commonly face. According to Arlie Hochschild, in her essay, "The Second Shift" employed women work more than men because women have two jobs. The first job which typically starts from nine and ends at five then the second job which begins the instant they arrive home this is what she refers to as the Second Shift. Splitting chores keeps couples happier, study suggests," states, "Researchers examined the beliefs, behaviors, and marital quality of 220 heterosexual newlywed couples and, like the 2012 study, found that splitting household tasks affected wives' marital satisfaction but not their husbands'. Particularly, wives who appreciated equal sharing of housework were notably happier if their husbands shared those beliefs, pointing to the significance of coming to an understanding early on. "Newlyweds need to thoughtfully organize how they can make their expectations about sharing chores work out in real life, especially if the new spouses strongly value gender equality in household labor," said study co– author Brian G. Ogolsky. He suggested getting the negotiating out of the way in the first two years of marriage, before long–term patterns are set. "The most satisfied couples have corresponding expectations and follow through on them," Ogolsky said." In this study, it shows how if men were to help around it makes the marriage and household stable. (Evolution of the Household) Determine whether each of the following would increase or decrease the opportunity costs for Mothers who choose not to work outside the home. Explain your answers. a. Higher levels of education for women b. Higher unemployment rates for women c. Higher average pay levels for women d. Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of women Higher levels of education for women would increase the opportunity cost for women chosing to work outside the home. The opportunity cost rises because as a women's education level increases, so does the available positions the woman is qualified for, hence a higher level of income. This means a woman chosing not to work outside the home is forgoing the opportunity for higher education for women to benefit her and her potential to earn higher wages. ... Higher average pay levels for women would increase the opportunity cost. Women chosing to work outside the home would have more opportunity at higher wages. Whereas, women chosing not to work outside the home relinquish the higher earnings. Lower demand for labor in industries that traditionally employ large numbers of women would mean fewer positions available for women choosing to work outside the home, causing the opportunity costs to fall. • 15. The Negative Effects Of Social Influence On Identity... Social influence is present in all areas of human lives. Society influences people's perceptions, attitudes, judgments, opinions or behaviors. That is why every individual modifies their action based on the interaction they have with their environment. This influence is due to the relationship with people, groups, institutions and with society in general. The environment has a bad influence on identity development because people tend to follow what the others say and assimilate of themselves. Society influences people negatively because it is mostly focused on the betterment of yourself and not on people as a community. Also, family have a negative impact on the personality of the household members because family have the biggest role in the lives of individuals. The relationships between the members of the household, determine the values, affections, and attitudes of the children who want to assimilate it. Therefore, the family is the most central influence in the lives of people. In Welty Eudora, "Why I live at the P.O." family environment has a decisive influence on the members of the household personality. Sister and Stella are two sisters who are always against each other because it appears that their parents favor more Stella than Sister. Faouzi NOURI–GIRONES CIT 071807 Compare and contrast traditional and modern families Since the nineteenth century, in the western societies, family patterns changed under the forces of industrialisation and urbanisation. Another factor which has been involved in those changes is the growing intervention of the state, by legislative action, in the domestic affairs of the family. As a result of these trends, the modern "nuclear" family has been substituted for the traditional extended family. The increase of values such as individualism and egalitarism has influenced the patterns of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, in the traditional families the mother usually bore the sole responsibility of the child caring. Modern parents now share this responsibility together because of social and work constraints. However, holidays which are not common in the traditional family, allow them to spend quality time with their children. Moreover in many modern families the father becomes a house worker, to provide for the needs of his children. As the statistics shown in the United Kingdom in 2001, 155 000 fathers were stay home husbands. All in all, the emphasis on nurturing children can be seen in traditional and modern families, alike. Apart from the similarities mentioned above, traditional and modern families have several differences in the areas of family size and gender roles. One major difference between the traditional and modern family is the decrease in family size. The traditional family tends to be extended with three or more generations in the same household because it provides a strong union between its members. Another reason for a large household is that usually farming was the principal economic activity of the family 1 members. In contrast, the modern family household contains two generations, parents and dependants children. Unlike the traditional family the modern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

'Telecommuting' refers to workers doing their jobs from home for part of each week and communicating with their office using computer technology. Telecommuting is growing in many countries and is expected to be common for most office workers in the coming decades. How do you think society will be affected by the growth of telecommuting? Should telecommuting be encouraged for society? (Telecommuting is the use of computers and telephones to enable an employee to work off–site and outside the traditional workplace) A topic which has created much controversy is whether telecommuting should be encouraged or not. This issue is very crucial since it influences several aspects in people lives, both in positive and negative ways. This essay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, as Desrochers claims, work–family blurring can be minimized by keeping a consistent schedule through boundary activities such as discouraging family members from disrupting one's work and working only in a particular room of the home (2003:5). In addition, telecommuting provides flexible work hours, which allows telecommuters to spend more time at home with their families so as to strengthen emotional ties within them. Therefore, as Raines and Leathers explain "telecommuters perceive the consequences of the alternative workplace to be an improved quality of home"(2001:2). Many people contend that telecommuting might pose telecommuters to problems of reduced health. Lack of mobility in doing their work and "alienation from workplace dynamics" are claimed as contributing factor of stress which may result in stress related illness for telecommuters (Raines and Leathers, 2001:3). However, there is growing evidence that telecommuting brings significant safety and health benefits. As Johnson states, less commuting frequency in telecommuting diminishes risk of "traffic related injuries" (1998:1). This also leads to a decrease in pollution rate which will be followed by reduction in the risk of pollution related illness such as respiratory infection. Moreover, work schedule flexibility in telecommuting allows workers to have more time for "personal growth activities" (see www.csus.edu/indiv.v/velianitis/101) such as sport ... • 21. The Issues And Effects Of Military Families Abstract The purpose of this paper is to discuss the issues and effects of military families and how they cope with deployments and reintegration. That is, by exploring many interventions and programs such as Operation Purple Camp, Military Child Education Coalition, and Families Overcoming under Stress. These programs should be utilized more often in order for families and children to effectively cope with military stress from deployments and reintegration. Three common themes that were analyzed in the literature review which are 1) Effects of Deployment and Reintegration of Military Families and Children; 2) Interventions for Children of Deployed or Reintegrated Parents; and 3) Maltreatment with Children of Deployed and Reintegrated parents. • 23. Advantages And Differences Between Two Career And... There are advantages and disadvantages do both two–career and one–career families. A two–career house requires each parent holding a substantial, full time job. Both are out of the house for a good part of the day, which would call for child care if they have kids who are too young to stay at home alone. Having a two career family takes longer for parents to build a bond with their child. A one– career family involves one parent working and the other at homing taking care of the children. This keeps the children less unsatisfied. Looking at it this way makes one think that a one–career family would be better for a family. There are many things that can differ when talking about a two–career and a one–career family. One is time a parent and a child spend together. Things that are very important when raising a child is time spent with the child and giving the child free time for entertaining activities. This is very easy to accomplish in a one–career household due to the one stay at home parent. With this, the child lives a more diverse life, which is what every parent wants in their kid. • 25. Exploring the Sharp Rise in Dual-Career Families Essay Most everyone was raised in a family that had two working parents. Even now most married adults are working couples. According to a survey, "the percentage of dual–income families has increased sharply over the past 30 years." As more and more female enter the work force more single family careers are turning into two–career families. In this economy can a family actually afford not to have both adults working? Whether it's for money, wanting to seek a goal or just to benefit your family, the dual–career family has taken place of the single career family. This may be very difficult trying to play wife–mother role (nurturance, emotionality, responsiveness) while balancing her career role. A man too may struggle with his definition of masculine and feminine roles as it has been taught to him. He may think that he is to be expected to be the head of the household, to be the one who earns the money and has the "power". For the most part men aren't taught to fill the role in child rearing or homemaking. Even if he has had the skills he may see it as a waste of time and may hurt his career. Other hand in a single career family there is no guess as to whose role is what. There is the one that brings in the money, he or she is in the "bread winners" role and then there is the one that stays home and takes care of things there. They know their roles in the household and there is no question about it. Another challenge of the two–career family is that one person may take a back seat for the others career and the result maybe a person not reaching their full potential career wise. The busboys were hired mainly for their looks, not because of their customer service or interest in the business. Working at Studio 52 was like going to a party every time they went to work. Childcare services could include things such as on site services to care for a child during employee work hours or by providing a subsidy for outside childcare services. The "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" are damaging behaviors identified from research conducted by social psychologist John Gottman. The ways these feeling are expressed is destructive and are associated with couples whose relationship will more than likely end in divorce. The "Four Horseman" are contempt, criticism, defensiveness, and stonewalling. Contempt, such as an eye roll, is an attack towards another's sense of self with the intention of psychologically abuse or an insult. It often leaves the spouse feeling inferior or undesired. Criticism, for example a verbal attack towards another's personality or their character, entails producing disapproving judgments or evaluations meant to indicate the faults one one's partner. Defensiveness, like viewing oneself as the victim to deflect a forthcoming verbal attack and ultimately reverse the blame, is mentally preparing oneself against a presumed upcoming attack. Stonewalling, an example being withdrawn so as to avoid conflict to distance oneself from disapproval, is the act of refuting complaints and refusing to give them serious consideration. When using any of the "Four Horsemen" during a developing argument, the couple's quarrel will often escalate rather quickly leaving both involved feeling contemptuous towards the other party and allow what could be a trivial issue to balloon into a much larger problem. • 43. Effects Of Parental Investment On Children Parental investment includes any investment by the parent in an individual offspring that increases the offspring's chances of survival, at the cost of the parent's ability to invest in other offspring (Travier, 1972). Since investing on themselves is as important as investing on their children, parents have to choose between caring for a child and acquiring the resources needed to insure their own productive and reproductive successes (Turner & McAndrew, 2006). This choice can be influenced by the social, cultural and economic factors at household level, and by socio–demographic factors at individual level. These factors may vary from culture to culture and overtime. However, the following variables are the most frequently cited determinants of parental investment on children. i) Gender; the gender of the parent is the most widely reported determinant of parent`s willingness to invest on children. This is mentioned across disciplines, from biology through social anthropology, with similar conclusions but different explanations. There is consensus that the gender identity of the parent through which income is received determines how the resources are invested on child welfare. Studies (Agarwal, 1997; Kabeer, 2000) indicated that income injected into the household through the mother do more justice to the welfare of children compared to resources injected through the father. Similarly, an exogenous increase in mothers income has a larger effect on children`s outcomes than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Medea And Antigone Analysis Antigone by Sophocles and Medea by Euripides are two plays whose main characters are their namesakes. Antigone is a play based on Antigone's response to the death of her brothers and Medea is a play based on Medea's response to her husband Jason leaving her to marry the daughter of a king. Both Antigone and Medea are women fighting against oppression by directly disobeying the law. However, they use different tactics in their battles, and they have different reasons for fighting. In the end, both make their point by bringing down the royal households. These women effectively fight oppression in their own ways. To begin, both Antigone and Medea were fighting oppression by breaking the law. In Antigone, the first evidence of oppression was directly on her late brother, Polyneices. After he died fighting his own brother.over the rule of Thebes, Creon, the man now ruling, decreed that Polyneices was not to have a proper burial. "But as for Polyneices, Creon has ordered that none shall bury him or mourn for him; He must be left to lie unwept, unburied, For hungry birds of prey to swoop and feast On his poor body" (Sophocles 26–30) Though this order was made, Antigone disregarded it and buried her brother. The main point for her doing this was to stand up for her religious beliefs, which she was then oppressed for. While she was being confronted by Creon about her actions, she said, "Nor could I think that a decree of yours–/A man–could override the laws of Heaven" (453–454). Antigone believed that it was the law of the gods for a person to have a proper burial so, she disobeyed Creon's law in order to obey the gods, who she deemed as more important due to their eternal state (457). In Medea, all of the oppression lies directly on Medea and her children. First, she must fight the oppression of Jason abandoning her and her children. Then, on top of that she has Creon, the king who is also Jason's new father–in–law, come to her and say, "Medea, I hereby announce that you must leave this land, an exile, taking with you Your two children. You must not delay" (Euripides 278–280). Creon continues by telling Medea that he has heard of plans she has made to harm him, his daughter, and Jason and is exiling her ... • 55. The Conflict Within The Family, By Alison Bechdel, Joan... Families, which are basic units of human commit, are constructed from individuals with unique character; these individuals taken as a whole, construct the larger character of the family itself. However, because no individual's character is perfectly compatible with another's, there exist inevitable conflict within the family, such as can be expressed as conflict between the self and either another single member or the entire group. Naturally, the rational self will seek to ameliorate such as conflict, perhaps by simply accepting it as a natural part of human life. Other instances, which form the basis of the essay and find roots in essays by Alison Bechdel, Joan Didion, and Richard Rodriguez, occur when such acceptance does not. I strongly suggest that the common response to familial conflict, avoidance, that is, escaping the friction between human characters by refusing on some level to participate in family, introduces a new conflict. While Didion, Bechdel, and Rodriguez, provide textual support to the birth of this second conflict, I shall seek to explain its nature. Born of contrasting characters in family and self, conflict will not be replaced, but bolstered in avoidance. Thus, in acceptance, the self finds resolution. Though I say it nonetheless, it is fairly obvious that most people participate in some kind of a familial unit as previously described, and thus are familiar with the conflicts to which I alluded. Child poverty in Britain is much different than the television adverts that show the awful living conditions of children in third world countries, however still has devastating outcomes for those experiencing poverty. Our standard of living is much different and therefore we must compare poverty in Britain to the living standards that we are accustomed to in society today; this concept was introduced by sociologist Peter Townsend in 1979 who defined poverty as; 'Individuals, families and groups in the population can be said to be in poverty when they lack resources to obtain the type of diet, participate in the activities and have the living conditions and amenities which are customary, or at least widely encouraged and approved, in the societies in which they belong.' 2 Child poverty within Britain is the limited income which causes families to be unable to provide the essential resources needed to live at an adequate standard in relation to society. • 61. The Second Shift By Arlie Hochschild Book Review: The Second Shift Name University Book Review: The Second Shift It is believed that women have to work more than men. However, focuses upon studying the history of the society, they are never given an acknowledgment for this matter. With the passage of time, women start getting the equal importance in the society and they receive the right of engaging in the professional activities (Arlie Russell & Anne, 1989). Still, in spite of having professional commitments, they do not get freedom from the childcare and other household activates, which doubles up their burden. On the other hand, men enjoy freedom from the household undertakings with excuses of their professional obligations. The Second Shift, by Arlie Hochschild, is a book, which sheds light on the women–men work disparity in the family domain. Basically, in this book, it encompasses different results of the surveys, conducted by the author on the theme of the marital responsibility. It indeed portrays the prevailing inequality between men and women in the human society when it comes to share the domestic obligations. It also extracts the types of couples and their preference on this matter from this survey (Arlie Russell & Anne, 1989). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 63. Stay At Home Mom Vs Working Mom Summary Dr. Phil is the author of the article titled "Stay–at–Home Moms vs. Working Moms" on the Dr. Phil website. The idea of women becoming an active member of the workforce has been quite an issue for a long time. Before proper child care in the past, there was even a study conducted on children with working moms to determine the negative impacts mothers in the workforce had on their children, and they concluded with quite a bit of data. However, this article mentions a new recent study in which they determined that maternal employment has no detrimental impacts on children. The author's perspective is obviously in favour of women having the right to work outside of the home and I wholeheartedly agree with him not just because I'm a woman, but because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People may say that an early relationship must be developed between children and their parents for proper development, but in the article Dr. Phil argues, "children who are in quality day care have increases in cognitive skills, intellect, social skills and social comfort"(Mcgraw 2003). I agree with what he says since child care services allow children to interact with other children around their age, allowing them to develop good social skills. Since in the present day, we have good quality child care services, it's safe to assume that working moms could lead to the greater good. Next, since the dominant male already plays the role of a provider in the family, sharing this role with the woman in the family will lower the burden of family responsibilities on both the husband and the wife. Having two members of the family work will not only benefit the economy, it will also stabilize the family financially and it will allow the children to spend more time with their father which they wouldn't have if the father was working all day. Since working mothers leads to such a great benefit financially and economically, I agree with the author on his perspective about this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are options available for those who seek help to find a better balance between the two. Many of these options range from organizational practices or policies, training, corporate involvement and even laws. II. Most families today are on a dual income. However, with the advance technology available, more companies are expecting more from their employees. A. According to Kara Heissman "the average worker works 55 hours a week now" (Lifehack.org). • 67. Work Life Balance Is Dead By Isabel Rimanoczy Summary Ms. Isabel Rimanoczy made great points in this article. Though some may view her as a work body, she and I share a mutual understanding when it comes to work–life balance. Ms. Rimanoczy is not buying the idea that there is some sort of balance between the two aspects of our lives. "Work–life balance is dead" and it may be a good thing" (Rimanoczy, 2015). I agree with her statement because if anyone takes the time to think about it, they will soon come to terms with the idea that it really becomes impossible to separate work and personal life. Some of us grow up with moral values, standards, and family traditions carried on through religious beliefs. When we go to work we will bring along our character because our personal life defines us as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. Why Do Young Adults Move Into Share Housing The allure of house sharing: Strangers and a mutual microwave Michaela Daly ABSTRACT Social change within the western context has redefined the concepts of "adulthood" and "house formation". Despite an increasing decline in marriage between the ages of 20 and 29, young individuals continue to leave their parental homes. The previous literature identifies both social and economic motivations what continues to be this defining moment of independence. This research project attempts to demonstrate the reasons for which young adults seeking such independence engage in share housing. Background Share housing has become increasingly popular since the mid–twentieth century (Goldsheider & DaVanzo 1989). Once assumed to be a product of economic constraint, particularly among students, share house living has since become a representation of modern adulthood. Historically, marriage was the most powerful motivator for young adults, particularly women, to leave their parental home (Pooley and Turnbull 1997). Between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries, the transition to adulthood was defined by, and adult identity rooted in, the attainment of "spousal status" with the formulation of a family to follow (Kenyon & Heath 2001b). The wealth of literature on the transition to adulthood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Are economic considerations apparent in the choice to join a share house? To what degree do social considerations influence their choice? How is independence impacted by living in a share house? Researching these questions will provide insight into the changing attitudes towards the traditional forms of household and transition to adulthood, as well as how young adults perceive expectations of ... • 73. Family Development : Family Dynamic Development Family Dynamic Development Think about a child that has to go through parents fighting over them, and having to make big decisions like which side to go on along with the separation of their family. Parental guardians actions greatly affect children's lives along with constant change within households, which delays their development and the upbringing of that child. After a change in routine, they have unneeded and unnecessary stress, which makes them worry and think about irrelevant things. Although bullying and community influence can be linked to teenage development, the ever–changing family dynamics in the United States within the 21st century delays a child's emotional and mental development. Academic Performance Children in non–intact families are more likely to have lower GPA, worse test score and were less likely to extend their education. A specialist in adolescent development, Daniel Shek illustrates that research also demonstrated that children coming from non–intact groups had lower level GPAs and worse test scores, furthermore an awful academic self–concept. Children going alongside non–intact groups were illustrated to drop out from high school, and were not as likely to attend college compared to children from intact families (Shek 443). While experiencing a change with families and having stress, it causes a child to not focus on school and causes them to focus on the effects of this event. Children start to do bad in school and not really care at this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Shooting Down Man The Hunter Analysis In reality, many families could not afford to live this type of lifestyle. In California alone, the amount of money it costs to live here is extremely high, especially if a family only has one income. Now to say that we went back to the 1950s lifestyle, the father would in a way be the only parent bringing home a consistent income, making it extremely difficult for living if it is a family of four people or more. The idea of bringing what we once had in the fifties and incorporating it into what we have today is not realistic. Voters who agree with this statement have a lack of knowledge in what we have as a society and population today and how it highly differs from what we had in the 50s. In the article, Shooting Down Man the Hunter, many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we refer back to Gawande's, Mistrust of Science we can predict that not all "science" is reliable science. There have been instances where we believed that "the sun moved across the sky" and that when being out in the cold, we have a greater chance of getting sick. These are all said to be facts, and they were even said by scientists. Though, we have to look deeper into the facts and the knowledge, because these statements are just hypotheses. They have yet to be proven. So when is science factual? When can we take the word of science and use it to gain more knowledge? This article suggested that "all knowledge is just probable knowledge. A contradictory piece of evidence can always emerge." This is, in fact, true. Knowledge is just what you find to an answer once. Just because that specific question has been answered does not mean that it is the one and the only answer, there could be and probably are much more. For example, medicine. Medicine was once said to be all we had. There was once a time where if you got cancer you were bound to pass, or if you got AIDs or even HIV, there was no chance of survival after a short amount of time. Today, these answers have changed, due to the never–ending search for more knowledge in these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
