Course/Section & Instructor:

Objective:
To create an eye catching magazine cover that is all about ME!
I also need to incorporate high quality images with eye catching article titles
to intrigue my audience.
Process:
While I did some research looking in google, it was when I decided to look more into art design
magazines where I could find better ideas. I think that the portrait is one of the most important
parts of this project, besides typography, so I took some extra time trying to find the right
portrait picture and also the right background for it.
As part of the process I first I sketched out some ideas in my mind and then I went into the
paper sketches using the picture I chose.
After placing the picture, I started working on the title and I did more research about which
could be the best one. Finally I had to make the choices for my fonts and I used the color wheel
to find the right color for them and I look for some repetition in the colors too. It took me some
time to fix the leading for the text on the left side.

Objective:
To showcase the logo created before. It was code in HTML and CSS and it included
the process of creating the logo, appeal to target audience and design skills.
Process:
I started creating the logo in Illustrator and as I followed the critique ideas from my classmates
and my instructor I made the changes needed. After the changes I resized the logo, so it was
between 300 – 500 pixels as indicated in the instructions. I writed the content explaining how
was the process of my logo in Word, checking my grammar, etc.
I used Notepad++ to write my HTML and add my content and tags and CSS to customize what
I needed to make my design matching the logo colors as well as the design I used for the logo.
After some failures with my background gears, I finally found another background image from
google and changed the color to the one I used in the logo. I made it really small so it could be a
subtle. As the final step I validated my code in HTML and CSS validator.

Objective:
Design a full color, folding two-sided brochure for a company product, service or location.
It needs to be informational or advertising. Need to have a text wrapped.
Process:
I did some research first to find out what was the best idea for what was my brochure about.
It was then when I sketched my logo options and the layout for the brochure. The logo was
my first start and then I went to InDesign to design the layout. After some changes after the
critiques, I keep looking for more pictures to make the text wrapped. This took me some time
because I want good pictures that fit with my design too. I was particularly looking for an arch
for the back of the brochure, but none of them seem to fit in there. I had three options and after I
printed I realized I made some mistakes I needed to fix, but this also helped me to decide which
of my options could be the better one. At last, I decided to use the same arch I used for the front
of the brochure (with a different angle and light).

Objective:
Create an instructional presentation in Prezi (between 10-15 frames) to persuade
a client that this software is practical to use for an upcoming campaign.
Process:
As part of the research I looked for examples to get ideas for my presentation. After the
research, I chose an idea of how to plan a birthday’s party. I needed a background to work with
so using this theme, my first idea was to get some balloons, so I started searching pictures in
Google. I made some sketches on how this could go. I have several ideas, but then I decided on
one picture and I opened it in Photoshop to create my background. The planning process took
me longer than I thought, but I knew this was an important part of the design process.
I needed to make some changes in the pictures I found. I erased the fonts, change the color of
the background of this picture and add the title I wanted for my presentation.
I went into Prezi, and after some issues I could finally started with my presentation design.
Next, I started editing my ideas and added more content. I work on the transitions. When I
thought I was finished, I realized I used too much text, so I decided to simplify.
To make something “different” I added a video at the end of the presentation.

Photodesign project including an original image with a quote and
a consistent color scheme from the image.

Course/Section & Instructor:
Comm 130:13 - Sara Tranberg.
Objective:
Submit a full bleed photodesign project that includes an original, new quality image, a
consistent color scheme based on that image, some text and a few design elements.
Process:
First I choose what color scheme I was going to use for this project. As I want to take a picture
about water, I choose to use one of the fountains of Temple Square. I took several pictures from
different angles to find the right one for my design. As blue was my basic color, I chose to make
a monochromatic picture.
After I had the picture in Photoshop I made some adjustments, like the vibrance and I also add
some saturation. Although the major change was after I add more magenta and yellows to the
image so the blue of the water could be sharper.
I pulled my photo in Photoshop and I started the designing process. I thought to add some drops
for the color swatch. I added the quote I had in my mind. I wanted to follow how the water falls,
so I look for an alignment for this with the quote.

Design a spiritual poster montage using images and type.
Programs used:
Adobe Photoshop
Date:
May 26,2016
Course/Section & Instructor:
Comm 130:13 - Sara Tranberg.
Objective:
Create a spiritual poster montage using images and type for a Christian non-profit
organization. Need to chose two or more images, a scripture, a quote or a thought.
Create this montage by using a layer mask to blend images. The montage needs to have
intermingled pixels and no hard edges.
Process:
My first idea of the montage was to look for a storm and then add a quote with it. After looking
for many quotes for a couple of days, finally, I found the quote that I really like and it matched
with the pictures I chose.
After looking for the right pictures that matched my first picture (the storm one), I made some
changes in the others in Photoshop. In one, I changed the colors to black and white and flipping
the canvas horizontally so it could be having the eyes watching the picture. Then I created layer
masks and using the brush tool to blend the pictures in the background one.
Next, I type the quote I chose and found what color could match the ones in the picture. I was
looking for a contrast one, but following a monochromatic specter with the other picture. After
that, I started playing with some effects so it could pop from the storm.

Objective:
Design a logo for a company and a business card and letterhead using this new logo.
Research well-designed letterheads and business cards. Use the logo to design
consistent layouts and branding for a business card and letterhead for this company.
Process:
As my husband owns a business shop as a part time mechanic, I did a website for him a while
ago. As he is the mechanic, he already gave me some ideas, but I also did some research on
logos for auto repair shop.
I first sketched some of my ideas in a paper, and I have multiple options. I needed to decide
which of all of them the better ones were. Then I got into Illustrator and started creating the
designs based on my sketches. Finally, I finished my logos, but then I also needed some extra
help to find out which of the three could be my best option. I had 12 people choosing the
favorite logo, and the first option was the winner. After the decision was done, I also received
some critique on how to improve that one too. After going with the favorite, I created my
letterhead and business card. I followed the alignment principles, looked for repetition and
included all the contact information on each piece.

DCreate an infographic that organizes data
in a visually pleasing way.
Programs used:

Date:
June 9, 2016
Course/Section & Instructor:
Comm 130:13 - Sara Tranberg.
Objective:
After gathered data on a trending topic assigned by your project manager, you need
to create any type of infographic to be shared in Pinterest and the company’s blog.
Process:
As part of formulating my plan for the design of this project, I collected data about the
topic I choose. I found an article about the Mighty 5 where there is a company that offers
itineraries for these five parks in Utah. I thought it could be a good idea to gather data about
these parks, like how many visitors they have in one year, the activities you can do and what
to do in each season. After I wrote everything in my word document, I sketched the idea of
how the infographic could be done. I also sketched the graphics I wanted to include in the
infographic. I looked for a color palette that could match the orange and the blue I needed for
my graphics. I looked for some icon pictures of these five parks. They needed to be particular
images that represent each one of the parks. I use the pen tool to draw these pictures in
Illustrator. It took me many hours to do these images. At least I could use same images I used
them for the icons too. Then, I created the charts (a pie one and other with mountains). I also
design a trademark for this infographic based on a petroglyphic. There are petroglyphic on each
one of the parks, so I thought that it could be a good idea to use it.

HOW?
Depending on your time, you can spend 3-5 days to visit the 5 parks.

As Zion and Bryce are only 1.5 hours of driving time
(and only 0.5 between Arches and Canyonlands) you
can visit both parks in one day.
Taking advantage of the easy hikes that each park has,
you can visit all the Mighty 5 in 3 days. If you have
extra time, you can enjoy one day per park.
