1. HISTORY OF INDIAN RAILWAYS
• The first railway proposals for India were made in Madras in
1832
• In 1988, the first Shatabdi Express was introduced between
New Delhi and Jhansi
• India's first railway line was named Red Hill Railroad and was
built by Arthur Cotton to transport granite for road-building
• April 1853, the first passenger train ran between Bori Bunder
(Bombay) and Thane, a distance of 34 km
