Personal Statement For Study Medicine
1. Briefly describe the one clinical experience you have had that has most significantly influenced your decision to study medicine. Do not replicate
your AMCAS personal statement.
"No! Stop! That makes the pain worse. Have you found a doctor yet?" In the waiting room of a crowded and noisy hospital in China, the sound of
English easily stood out. Shifting my eyes towards where the voices came from, I saw a young couple. She was clenching her stomach in pain and he
was frantically looking around. As I approached the couple and introduced myself in English and the relief on their faces was palpable. Annie and
John were on their honeymoon. The night before, Annie suddenly felt a dull pain in her stomach and began throwing up.When the pain didn't go away,
they rushed to the hospital in the morning and have been waiting for hours. All the nurses they had spoken with simply dismissed it as stomach flu.
With Annie running a fever and her pain getting worse by the minute, I was worried that it might be something more serious. As I watched Annie
traced how her pain shifted, from her navel to her right abdomen, it suddenly hit me that her symptoms resemble that of appendicitis. I was far from
certain, but I knew she needed to see a physician right away. Unable to convince the emergency room nurses to admit Annie, I made the decision to find
a physician instead. As a volunteer at the hospital, I had access to the surgical wing where I quickly track down the gastrointestinal surgeon

Case Study Of ShouldT All Medicines Be Based On Drugs
There has been much discussion in more recent years over whether it is ethical to sell customers medicines which may have no beneficial effect on
the patient. In the UK, medicine sold over the counter (OTC) must have a product licence which is approved by the Medicines & Healthcare products
Regulatory Agency, however, they only test for evidence of safety, such OTCs don't actually have to be proven effective unless claimed to be a
treatment. One of the main types of non–proven medicine sold over the counter is homeopathic remedies, which is holistic treatment based on diluted
substances. They are said to be no more effective than a placebo (The Pharmaceutical Journal, 2015). Interestingly, OTC sleeping pills don't actually
have to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the difference here is that unlike the majority of other high retailers, a community pharmacy is run by registered healthcare professionals who
have to follow precise guidelines and make ethical decisions, this may conflict with the idea of putting profit first instead of patients. It could be
suggested that pharmacists should recommend buying a non–evidence based medication to a patient only when there is no evidence based medication
available. This is because as a registered healthcare professional, a pharmacist's first thought process should be to a sell a medication which they know
will actually help their customer, it is their moral obligation to provide their customers with the highest quality of care.
Some diseases are self–limiting meaning that given time, they will resolve themselves naturally, so in this case it can be argued that it doesn't really
matter if the medication taken doesn't actually have any proven benefits, however, there is of course the moral dilemma for a pharmacist as to whether
they would want to sell a product to a customer knowing that it has no actual health benefits.
A very convincing argument for allowing the trade of homeopathic/non–proven medicines in pharmacies is the fact that any drug being sold there will
have had to have been tested to make sure it is safe for human consumption. If pharmacies were to stop selling these medicines then this could cause
some people to look for them elsewhere, online for example, where

Not all consults are accepted for case management, even if there is action by the case manager pertaining to the consult, these consults would fall into
the criteria of care coordination which are episodic cases. That being said, this case would meet the criteria for case management due to the multiple
specialty providers and multiple health conditions requiring the case manager to make at least monthly follow–up and as needed by the case manager
and the Mother. From the initial note, the case manager did not enroll patient into case management at the start of the initial interaction possibly due to
the review of his clinical notes and specialty referrals; it appears that Brady has had the necessary approved authorizations and referrals in place for
Developmental Pediatrician, Psychologist, ABA evaluation and Speech along with the prescribed medication for his ADHD management. Case
manager had provided Mother with contact information and to contact her as needed. During the time frame of 23 Sept until 20 January, Mother had
not made contact with Ms Sears, despite her 4 interactions, via T–Con and appointments with providers. After the extensive 1st meeting, one could
assume that the Mother was aware of the Ms' Sear's role, had her contact information and the instruction to call as needed. This was documented in both
encounters on 9 and 23

My Decision For Study Medicine
As a young woman from a working class background, my aspiration to study medicine was met with admiration and a massive dose of skepticism.
Not because anyone one doubted my capability to pursue medicine as a career, but I felt people failed to understand why I would endeavor to pursue
a career with so many metaphorical ladders to climb. Particularly, one which brings on a life time of learning and invariable hours of work.
My decision to study medicine was not made because of a life changing event. It begun as something little; stemmed first from the small screen of my
desktop computer: researching websites like GMC, medscape, seeing pictures of open heart surgeries and appreciating the complexities of what I was
witnessing. Grey's anatomy, House and junior doctors also fanned this interest further. I got inspired by the ambitious character of Christina Yang and
the intellectual Gregory House. With this and my love for anatomical science my journey into understanding medicine began.
My discernment of medicine was heightened through various opportunities and voluntary work. During my work placement at a local nursing home, I
helped care for elderly residents: which included feeding and spending time talking to the residents. What I enjoyed the most was hearing great stories
about the past; One patient always allowed me to paint her nails whilst she told me about her childhood. Hearing her speak about her childhood with
such animation and elation made me realize why I

A Research Study On Regenerative Medicine And Transplantation
Regenerative medicine and transplantation is the recent advancement in the field of scientific medical research embarking on the evolvement of
embryonic stem cells(ESCs)and reprogrammed human somatic cells called induced pleuri potent stem cells(iPSCs) .Human embryonic stem cells
were first derived in 1998 by Thomson et al. and induced pleuri potent stem cells(iPSCs) in 2007(Thai Journal of Obstetrics and GynaecologyApril
2013) The innate proficiency of the human embryonic stem cells to differentiate into multiple cell lineages i.e pluripotency and worthy of self
renewal score them as invaluable sources in therapeutic and diagnostic field. However, there are some impediments seen in the generation and
utilisation of these ESCs as some countries believe that isolation of ESCS from embryos is detrimental to the embryos and as they are not patient
specific , auto rejection is observed in some cases. (Thai Journal of Obstetrics and GynaecologyApril 2013) To overcome this, scientists have
identified iPSCs by reprogramming of certain somatic cells. Vivid progression in the remedy of infertility will be possible with the transformation of
germ cells from stem cells. The mechanism of differentiation of ES cells in vitro and in vivo are not well inferred due to limited number of oocytes
available through donation programmes. Functional or mature gametes have fail to develop in vitro as germ cells do not develop beyond the earliest
stage, persistently generating low number

On Monday, January 9, the University of Michigan has recently announced that the university's academic medical center is going to have a new name.
It is now called the Michigan Medicine.
Michigan Medicine features the organizational changes of the department as well. Marschall S. Runge, M.D, is the newly appointed leader for both the
U–M Medical School and Medical Affairs. He will singularly lead in the combined roles.
The change also reflects the academic medical center's three part mission, as reported by Michigan Live. The core missions are patient care, medical
education and health care research. The new name, Michigan Medicine, was unveiled on Monday and has already taken effect.

Nuclear Medicine Department: A Case Study
1.List and describe the procedures done in the Nuclear Medicine department. In the Nuclear Medicine department, the two most common procedures
performed are bone scans and VQ scans (ventilation/perfusion scan). During a Nuclear medicine procedure, the patient is either injected or inhales
radioisotopes, which then causes the patient to become the source of radiation that is picked up by a gamma camera. A VQ scan is a two phase scan
that requires the patient to be injected with a radioisotope and inhale a gas infused with radioisotopes. This scan is used to determine the blood and air
flow of the lungs and detect possible pulmonary emboli. The radioisotopes used for this exam include radioactive Xenon gas and technetium. As for the

According to the MRI technologist, positioning the patient for the exams is similar to the positioning used in radiography. Some of the common
exams preformed in MRI include: brain and spine scans, upper and lower extremity, and scans used to visualize soft tissues and tendons. Once the
patient has been positioned the correct algorithms are selected according to the part being scanned, the technologist can then manipulate the number of
slices taken, the plane of the slices, and can even manipulate the viewing field. 4.List and describe the procedures done in the Computed Tomography

A Research Study On Preventive Medicine
I can still remember those words, 'When you are a clinician, you are saving a life, but when you are a public health personnel, you are saving
thousands of lives at a time', delivered by my professor in the orientation class of undergraduate Community Medicine course. That introductory speech
was so motivating that I contemplated for a while, should I be in the 'thousands life saver' group? Though inspiring, that speech alone was not sufficient
to grow my interest in public health. Day by day I felt the importance of public health while dealing with various patients as a clinician.
During my Intern period in the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, I managed a diverse type of patients and realized that to delve into the depths of
the medicine, there is no alternative of knowing the epidemiological basis of diseases. In order to improve the individual and the community health
status, preventive medicine should be focused primarily. Moreover, as a result of modernization and lifestyle modification, the prevalence of
chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, stroke is increasing day by day, as well as the infectious diseases. New diseases are also
emerging with alarming frequency. Public health can play a vital role to handle these situations. For this reason, I preferred to pursue my career as a
public health researcher rather than a clinician and applying for Masters of Public Health (MPH) in epidemiology concentration as my first step to
implement my aim.

Why Study Medicine Essay
Why study medicine? Since the moment I decide to study it, I asked that question a hundred times and I always tried to find the seed that can
explain my passion for study this vocation. Seeking the answer, I realize that the seed, the source of the emotion I felt towards this profession was
born with the experiences that I encounter during my twenty years of life. The first circumstance that the seed was born was when I was a child
of five years old in a moment of helplessness. At that moment, I was asked about what I wanted to be when I grow up and my answer was that I aspire
to be a doctor to save my father who had been diagnosed with AIDS and I didn't wanted him to go far away from me. As the years passed, my desire for
medicine was still growing further. When I was seven years old I witnessed my mom giving birth to my second sister when doctors thought it was

Complementary And Alternative Medicine: A Case Study
Australians have embraced the use of complimentary and alternative medicine (CAM) with two out of three individuals in Australia accessing such
services yearly (The National Institute of Complementary Medicine, 2010). CAMs are treatments that lie outside of typical mainstream medicine such
as acupuncture, homeopathy, and western massage therapy. The general population commonly uses these services to assist in relieving pain caused by
chronic illnesses (Manya, Champion, & Dunning, 2012; Okoro, Zhao, Li, & Balluz, 2013) or other medical ailments (Gottschling et al., 2013; Nissen,
Lunde, Pedersen, & Johannessen, 2014). However, due to the lack of rigorous scientific testing on CAMs, many medical professionals are hesitant to

However, common risk factors for mental illness can be seen when grouping individuals into respective demographics– in this case, age. As an example,
elderly people most commonly suffer from mental illness due to persistent factors such as loneliness (Barg et al,. 2006) and chronic pain (Turk,
Okifuji, & Scharff, 1995). In contrast, younger people are more likely to experience life stressors (Ibrahim, Kelly, Adams, & Glazebrook, 2013) and
peer exclusion (Platt, Kadosh, & Lau, 2013) that cause a decline in their mental health. It has been shown in previous research that, through the use of
CAM, it is possible to lessen the mental burden of these stressors (Van der Watt, Laugharne, & Janca, 2008). Research has also shown a subsequent
improvement in physical wellbeing when CAM was used to treat mental illness (Field et al,. 1997). However, as it has been established that different
demographics experience mental wellbeing and illness differently, perhaps a specialised CAM treatment for each demographic would be an even more
effective method of

A Research Study Of Medicine
Introduction
In a world of vast technology and research, the study of medicine has greatly improved and continues to grow. In this day and age modern diseases
have been cured and/or treated by "new" medicine. However, many carry short and long term side–effects that sometimes eliminate the meaning of the
work as a whole. Are antidepressants one of them? Imagine spending every hour of everyday overeating, experiencing headaches, cramps, body pains
or attempting suicide (NIMH, nd). Life would not be pleasant; however, these are just a quarter of the symptoms people with depression have to
endure. Depression interferes with a person 's life and can cause pain for that person and others around him or her. It can even be very difficult trying
to look for ideal treatment. Even though the most common treatments are antidepressants, some doctors consider exercise as a reliable treatment
because of its preliminary health benefits. Cardiovascular/aerobic exercise helps to prevent health problems such as high cholesterol and high blood
pressure, strengthen the immune system and heart, and improve the working efficiency of the respiratory system (Mayo Clinic, 2014): considering
cardiovascular/aerobic exercise as a treatment for depression would not be farfetched. However, there are some factors to consider as not every human
body is made the same. This indicates both antidepressants and exercise treatments most likely do not have a hundred percent success rate on their
own. Gayathri

The Field Of Medicine Study Biology
[T]raditional education has students focusing on one career at a time, generally encompassing a very specific field of interest. Students interested in the
field of medicine study biology and don't generally study much outside of science. Or, students interested in music study musical theory and learn
several different instruments – they don't cross over into other fields of thought. This type of learning, however, really doesn't reflect the way the
world works. It doesn't even properly reflect human experience: many students are puzzled when it comes to choosing a field of study. They settle on
one because there hasn't been an option available that combines their interests in a practical way, or it simply isn't shown to them.
The interactions of this world, however, revolve around many different fields of thought combining and working together. People nowadays need to
be educated in a way that properly represents this experience: the "big picture" experience. They need to be able to look to the future, expand
horizons, and combine fields of interest and thought to reach a new level of innovation in today's world.
In the fall of 2014, a new undergraduate program was created for just this kind of education. The University of Southern California has established the
USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation thanks to a $70 million gift from Jimmy Ioving
and Andre "Dr. Dre" Young. This new program represents everything that

Evidence-Based Medicine: A Case Study
The goal of every clinician is to provide the best care for the patient. Most clinicians began their profession to make a difference in a particular area of
expertise. This paper explores the meaning of evidence–based medicine while providing some reasons current practice does not acknowledge the proof
of medicine before prescribing treatment for the patient. Lastly, the expectations of the clinician to create forward movement in using evidence to
provide the best treatment for the patient.
According to Essential Evidence–Based Medicine, the definition of evidence–based medicine as the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current
best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients (Mayer 2010). In 1999, several clinicians coined the term evidence–based
medicine. At this point, evidence–based medicine assumed a major place in establishing the standard of care (Rubin and Haynes 2012). Most

A Research Study On Veterinary Medicine
"[Medical] statistics are like a bikini bathing suit: what they reveal is interesting; what they conceal is vital."– Aaron Levenstein. Statistics in veterinary
medicine is very interesting but can, also, be easily overlooked. Most people don 't take into account how big of a role statistics and numbers play in
the medical field. From how much medicine to feed your cat to the probability your rabbit will survive a life–saving surgery; all these require statistics
in one form or another. Before getting to the medicine, statistics are used to determine the schooling for a veterinarian, veterinarian technician, and
veterinarian assistant and the salary each makes after completing school. In the business aspect, it 's used to determine if setting up a veterinarian 's
office in a certain area is worth it. Statistics in the medical field are used to determine the risks and odds of surviving a surgery, it 's also used for
the probability of error during surgery and recovery. The last field statistics comes to play is in the medicine itself. When a medicine is prescribed,
area under the circle is used to determine how much of a medicine to use. Statistics in veterinary medicine isn 't all about the medicine it 's also about
the schooling. On average a veterinarian goes to college for eight years– four years as an undergrad and four years in vet school (avma.org). The
average salary for a veterinarian in Massachusetts is $89,000, 20% higher than the average salary for veterinarians

Biomedical Ethics : A Study Of The Line Between God And...
Biomedical Ethics: A Study of the Line Between God and Medicine During the years of 1975 and 1976, a Supreme Court Case was fought that
changed the world of biomedical ethics. On April 14, 1975, twenty–one–year–old Karen Quinlan experienced severe brain damage after ingesting a
combination of narcotics and alcohol. Shortly after this, she lost consciousness and quit breathing for two periods of fifteen minutes each The
young woman's doctors declared her brain dead due to the irreversible trauma that her brain had endured with the combination of drugs and lack of
oxygen. She was promptly put on a respirator and a feeding tube. As Quinlan's condition deteriorated within the following months, a team of
doctors working at St. Clare's Hospital diagnosed her as being in a persistent vegetative state with no hope of recovery. It was noted in the case that
the family had proven to be devout Catholics, as well as the girl up until recent years. Upon receiving the diagnosis, the parents of Karen Quinlan
requested that the respirator be removed from their daughter's treatment so that their daughter could die with "grace and dignity." (qtd. from the NY
Times) The young woman's doctors; however, refused to comply with this request. On September 12, 1975, the parents sued the hospital. In
November of the same year, the judge assigned to the case ruled in favor of the doctors, but the decision was then reversed and the case went to the
New Jersey Supreme Court. On March 31, 1976, in a

Naturopathic Medicine: A Case Study
When I finish nursing school I want to focus on working in the field of Naturopathic Medicine, with a concentration in issue regarding the male and

Medicine In Rural Kansas: Case Study
From the beginning of my decision to pursue medicine, I knew I wanted to practice primary care in rural Kansas. Growing up in the small town of
Sterling, I was exposed to the role of a small town doctor along with its rewards and struggles. This understanding was further heightened during my
experience in the Scholars in Rural Health program which immersed me in rural medicine in my hometown. All of these experiences confirmed my
desire to pursue rural medicine and attend the Salina campus.
Salina campus came to my knowledge when a close family friend was accepted into the second class of Salina medical students. From this time on,
Salina campus was highly recommended to be an outstanding and unique place to obtain my medical education. The

A second strategy for change could be a financial incentive for the patient in the form of a service discount to encourage a choice and selection of a
VCD procedure. This could be made possible if there was a decrease in patient complications and length of stay savings that the hospital money that
could pass on to continue the cycle of VCDs procedure selection. A second barrier is the preformingphysician's preference of whether to use a VCD
verses MC at the termination of the cardiac procedure. This maybe the greatest barrier as some doctors are set in their choice and regardless of
evidence based practice of a better way. In an emergent situation, the cardiac doctor that is on call for Code STEMI and his preferred methods the
patient is basically stuck with, while a Non STEMI or a scheduled procedure with proper education the patient may choose the doctor that advocates
the use of a VCD and fix this barrier by directly impacting the non–participating doctors financial bottom line. Because each physician has the freedom

Why I Want to Study Medicine
The sun exploded into a million shades of orange. I sat, friends at each side, atop a monstrous pile of boulders. I looked over the vastness of Joshua
Tree National Park, and saw a glimpse of myself. Love filled my soul; love of people, love of family. The backcountry has always helped me find this
love; it has been my personal northstar, shepherding me toward research and medicine. I started backpacking at 13, trekking across the winter–harsh
lands of Idaho and Montana. It was difficult, but despite this, a feeling welled within me that pushed me forward. This feeling warmed my numb
fingers and soothed the ache in my thighs. It drew me close to my friends, fostering the teamwork required. Each new trip allowed me moments of
introspection. The teamwork led to trust, trust led to caring, caring led to empathy; eventually I understood the satisfaction of helping others. This is
how the backcountry shaped me. Over the next year many choices I made would be based on these lessons. When I was in high school, I had no
inkling of where I was going, but I tested the waters. I volunteered at the Mrs. Tewillegar Wildlife Foundation and did a rotation observing
anesthesiologists in San Francisco. I was a green advocate and spent much of my time reading about and debating the travesties visited upon the
environment.
In my young explorations I found that medicine and environmental politics peaked my interest. In my first semester at Pitzer College, I started to study

Irrigation Medicine Case Study
The effects of different irrigation treatments and CO2 concentrations on the stomatal conductance (gs) and transpiration rate (Tr), of maize are
shown in Fig. 4a, b, c, d. The figure shows that gs and Tr decreased with the enrichment of CO2 concentrations under both RI and DI. Compared with
RI400, gs and Tr were 27 and 23% lower under DI400; for the elevated CO2 concentrations, gs and Tr were 22–36 and 25–26% lower under DI when
compared with RI. Relative reductions in gs and Tr due to the DI treatment were therefore more pronounced along with elevated CO2 concentrations.
Compared with RI400, RI550–RI700–RI900 decreased gs by 13, 22, and 33%, and Tr by 12, 23, and 38%, respectively. Compared with DI400,

While compared with DI400, DI550–DI700–DI900 increased Tleaf by 2.4, 4.0, and 5.7%, respectively. Hence the relatively increase in Tleaf caused
by elevated CO2 concentrations was higher under DI than under RI. Leaf temperature was highly correlated with Tr under most conditions (Pallas et
al., 1967). And it was obvious to see that the higher Tr was shown in the markedly lower Tleaf, and vice versa, namely the so called transpiration
cooling effect (Pallas et al., 1967). So when the elevated CO2 concentration reduced Tr, the Tleaf increased. Also with decrease in soil water in DI
condition, Tr was decreasing; meanwhile, Tleaf rose more remarkable than that only under elevated CO2 conditions. As that Tr cannot be ignored in
the changes of Tleaf (Cook et al., 1964; Gates, 1964), and Tr changes was more pronounced under DI, so as to the changes of Tleaf.
Figure 4 e and f show the effect of different irrigation treatments and CO2 concentrations on net photosynthetic rate (Pn). Net photosynthetic rate
increased with the enrichment of CO2 concentration. Compared with RI400, Pn was 24% lower under DI400; for the elevated CO2 concentrations, Pn
was 15–20% lower under DI when compared with RI. Relative reductions in Pn due to the DI treatment was therefore weakened along with elevated
CO2 concentrations.
Compared with RI400, RI550–RI700–RI900 increased Pn by 30, 45, and 59%, respectively, while compared with DI400, DI550–DI700–DI900
increased Pn by 37, 51, and 77%,

The Future Of Medicine Case Study
The information put forth in this TED talk was regarding the manner treatment of disease was approached. But to discuss the future of medicine, he
begins with addressing the past. The prior and current model has a downward motion and is "so profoundly simple is can be summarized in 6 words:
Have disease –> Take pill –> Kill something" (TED 2015). This method has been dominant since the 1950's because of the antibiotic revolution
stemming from the introduction of antibiotics into the United States which took place over 100 years ago. The mechanism under which antibiotics
function is likened to a lock and key and the specificity of the lock and key mechanism was so exquisite that fatal or lethal diseases, such as
tuberculosis or pneumonia,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had been an avid runner for most of his life and was unaware that the cartilage in his knee was degenerating until he woke one morning 10 years
prior (2005) unable to move because the cartilage had torn completely, and the bones had shattered. Subsequently, he began testing in a laboratory
with simple experiments to try and fix the cartilage with injections into the knee spaces of animals which all resulted to naught. Then three years
down the line, a research student from Australia named Dan questioned "You know, maybe it isn't a mechanical problem. Maybe it isn't a chemical
problem. Maybe it's a stem cell problem?" (TED 2015). That led to the discovery of skeletal stem cells that build up the entire vertebrate skeleton,
cartilage, fibrous elements of skeleton, and bone. These cells were able to be grown in a petri dish outside of the body and thus could be inserted
back into the patient if need be. This indicates a specific change to the metaphor itself, but maybe a more powerful effect would come from changes to
the intangible M's: mechanisms, models, and metaphors. The presenter was Dr. Siddharth Mukherjee, an oncologist, cancer researcher, and assistant

A Research Study On Regenerative Medicine
Aging, injuries and diseases like dystrophies are all ensue respectively from dying, damaged or malfunctioning specialised cells. Nowadays,
researchers aim at finding possible methods to treat patients by understanding better how diseases develop. Regenerative medicine is an emerging field
that had known incredible advances over the last 20 years. It's a broad interdisciplinary field aiming at repairing, regenerating or replacing damaged,
malfunctioning or missing cells and tissues leading to restore normal function in patients. The remarkable progresses made in stem cell therapy, gene
therapy and bioengineering, and the intersection of these domains are the basis of this developing (promising, emerging, evolving, blooming) medicine

The basis of tissue engineering involves the production of stem cell, progenitor or precursor cells from embryonic or adult origin, which will induce the
regeneration of tissues and organs. The following step is to create biocompatible matrices or scaffolds for the conduction of the signal. These matrices
or scaffolds must be able to sustain cell proliferation and differentiation as well as the vascular ingrowth and the unification the new tissue with the
surrounding host tissue. Additionally, they must have the capacity to adequately degrade concurrent with tissue regeneration. Then, the induction of
growth factors or signalling proteins will activate the proliferation and differentiation of the stem cells. Finally the mechanical stimulation by
biochemical forces like shear or strain. Scaffolds can be made in different types of materials like bioceramics, membrane, fibres, foams hydrogels...
Another approach of regenerative medicine is the possibility to grow tissues and organs in the laboratory directly from the patient's cells and
implanting them in case the body cannot heal itself; thus, avoiding problems of organs available for donation and transplant rejection. The term
"regeneration" is therefore used to describe the process of replacing the loss of specialized tissue by proliferating undamaged specialized cells. The
finality of this medicine is to imitate nature's capacity avoiding a maximum of

Veterinary Medicine Case Study
Introduction
Diagnosis of diseases in the veterinary field by using tissue/cell culture or antibodies, are adopted by various techniques such as neutralization
(Borchers et al., 2005; Taniguchi et al., 2000), Enzyme–Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) (Langedijk, et al., 2001), Agar Gel Immunodiffusion
(Alvarez et al., 2010) and Complement Fixation Test (CFT) (Hartley et al., 2005; Adone et al., 2008). In the past few years ago onwards, the veterinary
diagnosticians has been incorporated new molecular techniques such as the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Western blot and improved older
techniques through the use of recombinant antigens, monoclonal antibodies and synthetic peptides (Okonko et al., 2006). Nowadays, the molecular ...

Molecular techniques also provide opportunities to improve antigens that are used to induce polyclonal or monoclonal antibody production, select
monoclonal antibodies that recognise specific target epitopes and purify antisera for specific diagnostic purposes (Svobodova et al., 2013). Use of
synthetic peptides (those produced by connecting amino acids together in a specified sequence) for use as positive controls in these assays provides an
opportunity to include a specific positive control without the risks involved in producing killed agents (Langedijk, et al., 2001). Recently, the use of
transgenic plants to express veterinary pathogen proteins has been shown to be an effective method of producing large amounts of recombinant
proteins without the use of animal–origin materials (such as foetal bovine serum or eggs) (Khandelwal et al., 2004, 28). These techniques have been
predominantly applied to the development or improvement of ELISAs and can be used to create highly sensitive screening assays typically designed
to detect all infected animals whereas highly specific confirmatory assays was designed to detect only infected animals and reduce the number of

A Study On German Medicine
Origins Trying to understand how German medicine would culminate in its darkest period from 1933–1945 you must first understand its origins.
Proctor thoroughly argues that the foundation of racial hygiene stems from a period when German Social Darwinists were beginning to create a
fervor that would spread throughout the country. He notes in his book that the main pervasive idea was that Germany was going to be overrun by a
population of poor and indigent people who because of their fast reproduction rates would quickly overtake the country. To protect the moral values of
Germany as a whole, racial hygiene evolved to be a wide spread solution to a fearful homogenous Germany. In Weimar Germany in 1927 the Kaiser
Wilhelm Institute for Anthropology, Human Genetics and Eugenics was created and would become the foundation of Nazi training for SS doctors. 1
Other institutes were created but their main focus was to investigate the heredity of things such as "feeble–mindedness" crime, nervous disorders,
cancer, tuberculosis, and other human ailments."2 More realistically, these were the institutions that would foster prejudice and hate for the German
people and planted the seedlings for doctors to quickly abandon their Hippocratic Oaths. Kater touches on Social Darwinism as being a critical element
of Rassenkuden but he attributed the main change in medicine to other reasons. He believed that surplus of physicians at the beginning of the Third
Reich was the greatest factor.

Concierge Medicine: A Case Study
Concierge Medicine refers to the bond formed between the patients and primary care physician. The patients are required to pay annually for the
services provided. When a person is sick, they book appointments with their doctors via emails or phone calls. With this medicine practice which is
also identified as direct practice, the association between the doctor and the patient is boosted.
There exist many advantages associated with this form of practice. When marketing the medicine practice, the following services should be stated for
the patients:

Social issue
The finances of the reserved practice of medicine are driven less by free–market forces. The economic rules that most physicians have to follow when
handling Medicare patients are made not by private parties on each side of the same transaction but by regime organizations tying to accomplish
national public policy objectives. The Medicare physician is expected to deliver medical services in exchange for fees set by the administration, not by
user demand. To charge more, at least under most circumstances, is illegal.

My Goals To Study Medicine
It is hard to predict the future, but with effort, it is possible to guide the future. With the right choices it is possible to choose also where you wanna
be. Five years from now I hope to be studying medicine at USP. No matter what type of person you are, there is nothing better to see someone smile

Improving the health sector, is one of the most important things to do.
Today one of the most important jobs is to be a doctor. Good doctors can improve the health system of a country making it better. One of my dreams

Personal Statement: Choosing To Study Medicine
"If your work is good enough, men will respect you and will grant you what is due you. Hitch your ideals to the stars. Although you will never attain

Choosing to study medicine is not an easy decision since it will decide my future and I have thought very long before apply. It is not a path I have
wanted to pursue since a young age, nor did a life changing moment have influenced my decision.
The subjects I have studied during high school, even thought not–science related, allowed me develop important skills. Studying History and
Philosophy has helped develop my writing and critical analysis skills and mathematics has helped me enhance my problem solving skills.
An hospital internship gave me an insight into the routine of doctors and the different specialties medicine incorporates. I had the opportunity to observe
different procedures and to talk to both medical students and professionals about this career. I saw how the different departments work together to

Personal Statement For Study Medicine

  • 1. Personal Statement For Study Medicine 1. Briefly describe the one clinical experience you have had that has most significantly influenced your decision to study medicine. Do not replicate your AMCAS personal statement. "No! Stop! That makes the pain worse. Have you found a doctor yet?" In the waiting room of a crowded and noisy hospital in China, the sound of English easily stood out. Shifting my eyes towards where the voices came from, I saw a young couple. She was clenching her stomach in pain and he was frantically looking around. As I approached the couple and introduced myself in English and the relief on their faces was palpable. Annie and John were on their honeymoon. The night before, Annie suddenly felt a dull pain in her stomach and began throwing up.When the pain didn't go away, they rushed to the hospital in the morning and have been waiting for hours. All the nurses they had spoken with simply dismissed it as stomach flu. With Annie running a fever and her pain getting worse by the minute, I was worried that it might be something more serious. As I watched Annie traced how her pain shifted, from her navel to her right abdomen, it suddenly hit me that her symptoms resemble that of appendicitis. I was far from certain, but I knew she needed to see a physician right away. Unable to convince the emergency room nurses to admit Annie, I made the decision to find a physician instead. As a volunteer at the hospital, I had access to the surgical wing where I quickly track down the gastrointestinal surgeon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Case Study Of ShouldT All Medicines Be Based On Drugs There has been much discussion in more recent years over whether it is ethical to sell customers medicines which may have no beneficial effect on the patient. In the UK, medicine sold over the counter (OTC) must have a product licence which is approved by the Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, however, they only test for evidence of safety, such OTCs don't actually have to be proven effective unless claimed to be a treatment. One of the main types of non–proven medicine sold over the counter is homeopathic remedies, which is holistic treatment based on diluted substances. They are said to be no more effective than a placebo (The Pharmaceutical Journal, 2015). Interestingly, OTC sleeping pills don't actually have to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the difference here is that unlike the majority of other high retailers, a community pharmacy is run by registered healthcare professionals who have to follow precise guidelines and make ethical decisions, this may conflict with the idea of putting profit first instead of patients. It could be suggested that pharmacists should recommend buying a non–evidence based medication to a patient only when there is no evidence based medication available. This is because as a registered healthcare professional, a pharmacist's first thought process should be to a sell a medication which they know will actually help their customer, it is their moral obligation to provide their customers with the highest quality of care. Some diseases are self–limiting meaning that given time, they will resolve themselves naturally, so in this case it can be argued that it doesn't really matter if the medication taken doesn't actually have any proven benefits, however, there is of course the moral dilemma for a pharmacist as to whether they would want to sell a product to a customer knowing that it has no actual health benefits. A very convincing argument for allowing the trade of homeopathic/non–proven medicines in pharmacies is the fact that any drug being sold there will have had to have been tested to make sure it is safe for human consumption. If pharmacies were to stop selling these medicines then this could cause some people to look for them elsewhere, online for example, where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Family Medicine Clinic Case Study Request to explore the timeliness of services and referrals assisted by his SW case manager, Ms. Tondalaio Sears in the Family Medicine Clinic NHP. 1.Findings of Fact T–con dated on the 8 September 2015, Mother of patient could benefit from pediatric s case manager. On 9 Sept, Case Manager met with Mother of patient and documents that this visit was an extensive late visit; at the conclusion of this visit case manager stated that she would contact specialty providers and ultimately secure appointments. On the 23 Sept, the case manager had received two TCON's regarding assistance with medication management. Not all consults are accepted for case management, even if there is action by the case manager pertaining to the consult, these consults would fall into the criteria of care coordination which are episodic cases. That being said, this case would meet the criteria for case management due to the multiple specialty providers and multiple health conditions requiring the case manager to make at least monthly follow–up and as needed by the case manager and the Mother. From the initial note, the case manager did not enroll patient into case management at the start of the initial interaction possibly due to the review of his clinical notes and specialty referrals; it appears that Brady has had the necessary approved authorizations and referrals in place for Developmental Pediatrician, Psychologist, ABA evaluation and Speech along with the prescribed medication for his ADHD management. Case manager had provided Mother with contact information and to contact her as needed. During the time frame of 23 Sept until 20 January, Mother had not made contact with Ms Sears, despite her 4 interactions, via T–Con and appointments with providers. After the extensive 1st meeting, one could assume that the Mother was aware of the Ms' Sear's role, had her contact information and the instruction to call as needed. This was documented in both encounters on 9 and 23 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. My Decision For Study Medicine As a young woman from a working class background, my aspiration to study medicine was met with admiration and a massive dose of skepticism. Not because anyone one doubted my capability to pursue medicine as a career, but I felt people failed to understand why I would endeavor to pursue a career with so many metaphorical ladders to climb. Particularly, one which brings on a life time of learning and invariable hours of work. My decision to study medicine was not made because of a life changing event. It begun as something little; stemmed first from the small screen of my desktop computer: researching websites like GMC, medscape, seeing pictures of open heart surgeries and appreciating the complexities of what I was witnessing. Grey's anatomy, House and junior doctors also fanned this interest further. I got inspired by the ambitious character of Christina Yang and the intellectual Gregory House. With this and my love for anatomical science my journey into understanding medicine began. My discernment of medicine was heightened through various opportunities and voluntary work. During my work placement at a local nursing home, I helped care for elderly residents: which included feeding and spending time talking to the residents. What I enjoyed the most was hearing great stories about the past; One patient always allowed me to paint her nails whilst she told me about her childhood. Hearing her speak about her childhood with such animation and elation made me realize why I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Personalised medicine or targeted therapy can be described as medical exemplary using molecular caricature technologies to tailor the right curative design for the right individual at the right time. • 6. A Research Study On Regenerative Medicine And Transplantation Regenerative medicine and transplantation is the recent advancement in the field of scientific medical research embarking on the evolvement of embryonic stem cells(ESCs)and reprogrammed human somatic cells called induced pleuri potent stem cells(iPSCs) .Human embryonic stem cells were first derived in 1998 by Thomson et al. and induced pleuri potent stem cells(iPSCs) in 2007(Thai Journal of Obstetrics and GynaecologyApril 2013) The innate proficiency of the human embryonic stem cells to differentiate into multiple cell lineages i.e pluripotency and worthy of self renewal score them as invaluable sources in therapeutic and diagnostic field. However, there are some impediments seen in the generation and utilisation of these ESCs as some countries believe that isolation of ESCS from embryos is detrimental to the embryos and as they are not patient specific , auto rejection is observed in some cases. (Thai Journal of Obstetrics and GynaecologyApril 2013) To overcome this, scientists have identified iPSCs by reprogramming of certain somatic cells. Vivid progression in the remedy of infertility will be possible with the transformation of germ cells from stem cells. The mechanism of differentiation of ES cells in vitro and in vivo are not well inferred due to limited number of oocytes available through donation programmes. Functional or mature gametes have fail to develop in vitro as germ cells do not develop beyond the earliest stage, persistently generating low number ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Nuclear Medicine Department: A Case Study 1.List and describe the procedures done in the Nuclear Medicine department. In the Nuclear Medicine department, the two most common procedures performed are bone scans and VQ scans (ventilation/perfusion scan). During a Nuclear medicine procedure, the patient is either injected or inhales radioisotopes, which then causes the patient to become the source of radiation that is picked up by a gamma camera. A VQ scan is a two phase scan that requires the patient to be injected with a radioisotope and inhale a gas infused with radioisotopes. • 10. A Research Study On Preventive Medicine I can still remember those words, 'When you are a clinician, you are saving a life, but when you are a public health personnel, you are saving thousands of lives at a time', delivered by my professor in the orientation class of undergraduate Community Medicine course. That introductory speech was so motivating that I contemplated for a while, should I be in the 'thousands life saver' group? Though inspiring, that speech alone was not sufficient to grow my interest in public health. Day by day I felt the importance of public health while dealing with various patients as a clinician. During my Intern period in the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, I managed a diverse type of patients and realized that to delve into the depths of the medicine, there is no alternative of knowing the epidemiological basis of diseases. In order to improve the individual and the community health status, preventive medicine should be focused primarily. Moreover, as a result of modernization and lifestyle modification, the prevalence of chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, stroke is increasing day by day, as well as the infectious diseases. New diseases are also emerging with alarming frequency. Public health can play a vital role to handle these situations. For this reason, I preferred to pursue my career as a public health researcher rather than a clinician and applying for Masters of Public Health (MPH) in epidemiology concentration as my first step to implement my aim. • 11. Why Study Medicine Essay Why study medicine? Since the moment I decide to study it, I asked that question a hundred times and I always tried to find the seed that can explain my passion for study this vocation. Seeking the answer, I realize that the seed, the source of the emotion I felt towards this profession was born with the experiences that I encounter during my twenty years of life. The first circumstance that the seed was born was when I was a child of five years old in a moment of helplessness. At that moment, I was asked about what I wanted to be when I grow up and my answer was that I aspire to be a doctor to save my father who had been diagnosed with AIDS and I didn't wanted him to go far away from me. As the years passed, my desire for medicine was still growing further. When I was seven years old I witnessed my mom giving birth to my second sister when doctors thought it was dangerous for her health. At the age of nine, I saw my grandmother ... • 12. Complementary And Alternative Medicine: A Case Study Australians have embraced the use of complimentary and alternative medicine (CAM) with two out of three individuals in Australia accessing such services yearly (The National Institute of Complementary Medicine, 2010). CAMs are treatments that lie outside of typical mainstream medicine such as acupuncture, homeopathy, and western massage therapy. The general population commonly uses these services to assist in relieving pain caused by chronic illnesses (Manya, Champion, & Dunning, 2012; Okoro, Zhao, Li, & Balluz, 2013) or other medical ailments (Gottschling et al., 2013; Nissen, Lunde, Pedersen, & Johannessen, 2014). However, common risk factors for mental illness can be seen when grouping individuals into respective demographics– in this case, age. As an example, elderly people most commonly suffer from mental illness due to persistent factors such as loneliness (Barg et al,. 2006) and chronic pain (Turk, Okifuji, & Scharff, 1995). In contrast, younger people are more likely to experience life stressors (Ibrahim, Kelly, Adams, & Glazebrook, 2013) and peer exclusion (Platt, Kadosh, & Lau, 2013) that cause a decline in their mental health. It has been shown in previous research that, through the use of CAM, it is possible to lessen the mental burden of these stressors (Van der Watt, Laugharne, & Janca, 2008). Research has also shown a subsequent improvement in physical wellbeing when CAM was used to treat mental illness (Field et al,. 1997). However, as it has been established that different demographics experience mental wellbeing and illness differently, perhaps a specialised CAM treatment for each demographic would be an even more effective method of ... • 13. A Research Study Of Medicine Introduction In a world of vast technology and research, the study of medicine has greatly improved and continues to grow. In this day and age modern diseases have been cured and/or treated by "new" medicine. However, many carry short and long term side–effects that sometimes eliminate the meaning of the work as a whole. Are antidepressants one of them? Imagine spending every hour of everyday overeating, experiencing headaches, cramps, body pains or attempting suicide (NIMH, nd). Life would not be pleasant; however, these are just a quarter of the symptoms people with depression have to endure. Depression interferes with a person 's life and can cause pain for that person and others around him or her. It can even be very difficult trying to look for ideal treatment. Even though the most common treatments are antidepressants, some doctors consider exercise as a reliable treatment because of its preliminary health benefits. Cardiovascular/aerobic exercise helps to prevent health problems such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure, strengthen the immune system and heart, and improve the working efficiency of the respiratory system (Mayo Clinic, 2014): considering cardiovascular/aerobic exercise as a treatment for depression would not be farfetched. However, there are some factors to consider as not every human body is made the same. This indicates both antidepressants and exercise treatments most likely do not have a hundred percent success rate on their own. Gayathri ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Field Of Medicine Study Biology [T]raditional education has students focusing on one career at a time, generally encompassing a very specific field of interest. Students interested in the field of medicine study biology and don't generally study much outside of science. Or, students interested in music study musical theory and learn several different instruments – they don't cross over into other fields of thought. This type of learning, however, really doesn't reflect the way the world works. It doesn't even properly reflect human experience: many students are puzzled when it comes to choosing a field of study. They settle on one because there hasn't been an option available that combines their interests in a practical way, or it simply isn't shown to them. The interactions of this world, however, revolve around many different fields of thought combining and working together. People nowadays need to be educated in a way that properly represents this experience: the "big picture" experience. They need to be able to look to the future, expand horizons, and combine fields of interest and thought to reach a new level of innovation in today's world. In the fall of 2014, a new undergraduate program was created for just this kind of education. Most clinicians began their profession to make a difference in a particular area of expertise. This paper explores the meaning of evidence–based medicine while providing some reasons current practice does not acknowledge the proof of medicine before prescribing treatment for the patient. Lastly, the expectations of the clinician to create forward movement in using evidence to provide the best treatment for the patient. • 18. A Research Study On Veterinary Medicine "[Medical] statistics are like a bikini bathing suit: what they reveal is interesting; what they conceal is vital."– Aaron Levenstein. Statistics in veterinary medicine is very interesting but can, also, be easily overlooked. Most people don 't take into account how big of a role statistics and numbers play in the medical field. From how much medicine to feed your cat to the probability your rabbit will survive a life–saving surgery; all these require statistics in one form or another. Before getting to the medicine, statistics are used to determine the schooling for a veterinarian, veterinarian technician, and veterinarian assistant and the salary each makes after completing school. In the business aspect, it 's used to determine if setting up a veterinarian 's office in a certain area is worth it. Statistics in the medical field are used to determine the risks and odds of surviving a surgery, it 's also used for the probability of error during surgery and recovery. The last field statistics comes to play is in the medicine itself. When a medicine is prescribed, area under the circle is used to determine how much of a medicine to use. Statistics in veterinary medicine isn 't all about the medicine it 's also about the schooling. Biomedical Ethics: A Study of the Line Between God and Medicine During the years of 1975 and 1976, a Supreme Court Case was fought that changed the world of biomedical ethics. On April 14, 1975, twenty–one–year–old Karen Quinlan experienced severe brain damage after ingesting a combination of narcotics and alcohol. Shortly after this, she lost consciousness and quit breathing for two periods of fifteen minutes each The young woman's doctors declared her brain dead due to the irreversible trauma that her brain had endured with the combination of drugs and lack of oxygen. She was promptly put on a respirator and a feeding tube. As Quinlan's condition deteriorated within the following months, a team of doctors working at St. Clare's Hospital diagnosed her as being in a persistent vegetative state with no hope of recovery. It was noted in the case that the family had proven to be devout Catholics, as well as the girl up until recent years. Upon receiving the diagnosis, the parents of Karen Quinlan requested that the respirator be removed from their daughter's treatment so that their daughter could die with "grace and dignity." (qtd. from the NY Times) The young woman's doctors; however, refused to comply with this request. On September 12, 1975, the parents sued the hospital. I looked over the vastness of Joshua Tree National Park, and saw a glimpse of myself. Love filled my soul; love of people, love of family. The backcountry has always helped me find this love; it has been my personal northstar, shepherding me toward research and medicine. I started backpacking at 13, trekking across the winter–harsh lands of Idaho and Montana. It was difficult, but despite this, a feeling welled within me that pushed me forward. This feeling warmed my numb fingers and soothed the ache in my thighs. It drew me close to my friends, fostering the teamwork required. Each new trip allowed me moments of introspection. The teamwork led to trust, trust led to caring, caring led to empathy; eventually I understood the satisfaction of helping others. This is how the backcountry shaped me. Over the next year many choices I made would be based on these lessons. When I was in high school, I had no inkling of where I was going, but I tested the waters. I volunteered at the Mrs. Tewillegar Wildlife Foundation and did a rotation observing anesthesiologists in San Francisco. Hence the relatively increase in Tleaf caused by elevated CO2 concentrations was higher under DI than under RI. Leaf temperature was highly correlated with Tr under most conditions (Pallas et al., 1967). And it was obvious to see that the higher Tr was shown in the markedly lower Tleaf, and vice versa, namely the so called transpiration cooling effect (Pallas et al., 1967). So when the elevated CO2 concentration reduced Tr, the Tleaf increased. Also with decrease in soil water in DI condition, Tr was decreasing; meanwhile, Tleaf rose more remarkable than that only under elevated CO2 conditions. As that Tr cannot be ignored in the changes of Tleaf (Cook et al., 1964; Gates, 1964), and Tr changes was more pronounced under DI, so as to the changes of Tleaf. But to discuss the future of medicine, he begins with addressing the past. The prior and current model has a downward motion and is "so profoundly simple is can be summarized in 6 words: Have disease –> Take pill –> Kill something" (TED 2015). This method has been dominant since the 1950's because of the antibiotic revolution stemming from the introduction of antibiotics into the United States which took place over 100 years ago. The mechanism under which antibiotics function is likened to a lock and key and the specificity of the lock and key mechanism was so exquisite that fatal or lethal diseases, such as tuberculosis or pneumonia,... Subsequently, he began testing in a laboratory with simple experiments to try and fix the cartilage with injections into the knee spaces of animals which all resulted to naught. Then three years down the line, a research student from Australia named Dan questioned "You know, maybe it isn't a mechanical problem. Maybe it isn't a chemical problem. Maybe it's a stem cell problem?" (TED 2015). That led to the discovery of skeletal stem cells that build up the entire vertebrate skeleton, cartilage, fibrous elements of skeleton, and bone. These cells were able to be grown in a petri dish outside of the body and thus could be inserted back into the patient if need be. • 31. A Study On German Medicine Origins Trying to understand how German medicine would culminate in its darkest period from 1933–1945 you must first understand its origins. Proctor thoroughly argues that the foundation of racial hygiene stems from a period when German Social Darwinists were beginning to create a fervor that would spread throughout the country. He notes in his book that the main pervasive idea was that Germany was going to be overrun by a population of poor and indigent people who because of their fast reproduction rates would quickly overtake the country. To protect the moral values of Germany as a whole, racial hygiene evolved to be a wide spread solution to a fearful homogenous Germany. In Weimar Germany in 1927 the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Anthropology, Human Genetics and Eugenics was created and would become the foundation of Nazi training for SS doctors. 1 Other institutes were created but their main focus was to investigate the heredity of things such as "feeble–mindedness" crime, nervous disorders, cancer, tuberculosis, and other human ailments."2 More realistically, these were the institutions that would foster prejudice and hate for the German people and planted the seedlings for doctors to quickly abandon their Hippocratic Oaths.
