The Scope Of Sexuality Education
Introduction While a lot of medical attention is provided to individuals with developmental
disability, little has been done to ensure that their sexual lifestyles are not affected. There are
multiple barriers which include lack of attention by the common people as well as misconception
about sexuality. It is often misunderstood that individuals with disabilities do not exhibit a desire
and are incapable of having a sexual understanding of life, thus not able to fulfil their sexual needs
(Murphy and Elias, 2006). In terms of quality of life, we have a different point of view which
suggests that those having moderate to severe disabilities lack the skill which will lead to a socially
sensitive quality of life, since they are behind in terms of education (Harader, Fullwood, and
Hawthrone, 2009). A good way to bust these myths would be to create a definition of sexuality and
the various associated components. There are various definitions available which try to provide a
diverse avenue to the scope of sexuality education. There is little doubt that those with a superior
access to education or information lead a fear–free life, away from verbal or physical abuse, various
unplanned pregnancies or various sexually transmitted diseases (STD's) (Murphy and Young, 2005).
Research also shows that when it comes to opportunity, individuals with developmental disabilities
are often not provided with the same (Boehning, 2006). On instances, access to such opportunity is
denied

Gender And Sexuality : What The Standards Of Public...
My entire life has been spent in a small town in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where a very
conservative mindset is in place. This conservative mindset not only stands for its politics, but
affects a person's religion or lack thereof, what the standards of public education include, the types
of art productions showcased within the schools, and a repression of self–identity, such as a person's
gender and sexuality. Throughout much of my life, I questioned few of these aspects of mine and my
community's life. However, in the last few years, specifically high school and on, I have tried to
educate myself on these topics as I have grown to know people that deal with different identities
involving gender and sexuality. I also became more aware of the inequalities that are present
between genders and the social stigmas that come with it, facing my own issues due to identifying as
a woman; although, it is not just women that face issues with gender, but people who identify as
men and beyond the spectrum of just men and women. My assumptions about gender have changed
dramatically throughout the years and–honestly–in the past few months due to friends who have
identified as someone other than a man or woman. When I think about gender, I immediately think
that someone, more than likely, identifies as a man or a woman. My conditioning–or my influences–
have shaped this in my life; however, there are multitudinous ways to describe someone's gender or
lack thereof, when I actually think

Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?
The Cultural Revolution and Sexual Desires in Oates's "Where Are You Going, Where Have You
Been"
The late 1950s was a time of cultural revolution which had a large influence on the American youth.
"As the next decade drew near, issues such as civil rights, war, women 's rights, and the sexual
revolution would deeply affect many American teenagers. The conservative family values and
morals that predominated in the 1950s were just beginning to be challenged as the decade came to a
close" (Moss and Wilson 3). As a result, many teenagers lost the conservative morals of the 1950s
and became more independent. In "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" by Joyce Carol
Oates, Connie represents the result of this cultural revolution. Criticized by her mother for her
promiscuity, Connie is an independent girl who often hangs out with her friends trying to attract
boys. In doing so, she attracts a sexual predator named Arnold Friend who visits her at her home to
try to get her to leave with him to presumably rape her. At the end of the story, Connie chooses to go
with him. Connie gets into this dangerous situation because of a mistaken belief on her self–worth,
the loss of morals by her and the adults in the story, and the influence of the 1960s popular music.
Looking at "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" through the historical and feminist
lenses, suggests that the story is really about how the misconceptions on self–worth and the
diversion of 1960s society from

Human Sexuality Education : A Natural Part Of Our Everyday...
Human Sexuality Education Paper As a very natural part of our everyday lives and existence as
humans, it is perplexing how so many Americans are undereducated about human reproductive
systems and sex organs, their structures and functions, and the various effects and consequences of
human sexuality. The responsibility of properly educating young people about human sexuality is in
the hands of parents and schools. Educational programs in U. S. schools today, such as Abstinence
Only and Abstinence Plus programs, may not provide adequate information to teach young people
how to make knowledgable decisions in real–life situations about sex. Comprehensive Sexuality
Education programs have been shown to be much more effective at preventing teen pregnancies and
sexually transmitted infections (STI 's; SEICUS). As it is an extremely broad topic, "Sexuality
education is a life–long process of acquiring information and forming attitudes, beliefs, and values"
(SEICUS). However, the acquisition of fundamental knowledge, credible information, and
appropriate health resources can help in this life–long process and minimize unwanted or negative
effects. Perhaps the most important aspect of a quality sexual education program is for young people
and their parents or guardians to feel comfortable talking with one another about the topic. If
children are uncomfortable asking their parents questions about human sexuality, it is highly likely
that they will not turn to their parents for

The Witch Craze Of The Sixteenth And Seventeenth Centuries
Gender, race, age, and ability have been used to shape the history and our understanding of human
sexuality, as well as how certain groups, specifically marginalized groups, were seen as degenerate
or delinquent people. When examining why and how specific groups of people were though of as
being sexual delinquents, it is important to use an intersectional lens, and consider how these
different categories and identities of gender, race, age, and ability work together to form experiences
and opinions. By marginalizing, controlling, and regulating the sexualities and bodies of those who
were women, people of colour, adolescents, or differentially abled, the social norm of a white,
heterosexual, patriarchy has been enforced through history. Throughout the history of humankind,
women's bodies and sexuality have been critiqued, chastised, and judged by society. During the
witch craze of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, many women were accused of being evil
beings. Over 60,000 women were wrongfully executed by their accusers . It was believed that
woman who were midwives, challenged male authority, or were sexually promiscuous and given
themselves to Satin and were now evil and immoral beings. The more "feminine" senses, touch,
smell, and taste were often associated with being a witch . By accusing women who were sexual
agents or who were associated with women's bodies or sexuality (such as midwives) of being evil
and executing them, men were able to use gender to

Is Abstinence Only Education For Adolescents Of Various...
Not only does abstinence only education exclude adolescents of various sexualities, but it fails to
regard the health of teenaged girls as well. The repression of female representation in health courses
has contributed to the magnification of the gender stereotypes, where women are ideally portrayed
as pure vessels if they remain virgins until marriage. Therefore, young girls should remain chaste
and pubescent boys naturally have a rampant sexuality due to their uncontrollable hormones.
Traditional gender roles are then reinforced, disregarding female sexuality thus alienating them
within their health courses since they are not educationally included. This form of instruction
censors out necessary sexual guidance concerning their respective reproductive health. For example,
details about contraception, abortion, human sexuality, and sexual assault specifically concerning
females are neglected within the classroom. Health courses have long–established condoms as the
popularized and primary way of having protective sex. But what school boards don't incorporate in
their curricula is that there are various methods of contraception, precisely for women. For example,
there are birth control pills, hormone implants, cervical caps, and vaginal rings. Although these
preventative measures do not safeguard for STI and HIV contraction, they can decrease the
likelihood of having an unintended pregnancy by ceasing ovulation or preventing sperm flow in the
vagina by increasing the hormones

Sexual Despotism In Susanna's Seven Husband By Ruskin Bond
Ruskin Bond, rightly observed as 'Wordsworth' of India, has made eminent contribution to Indian
writing in English. His works, sophisticated yet simple, convey a large and complex meaning
inherent in Indian life and culture. Prominently recognized for his treatment of nature, children and
childhood in his notable works, Bond also established himself as an illustrious promoter of
feminism. Under the wrap of dark comedy, he gracefully touches on the subject of sexual despotism
and repression meted out towards women. In Susanna's Seven Husbands, he ruthlessly brings out
the subjugation that a woman faces in a prejudiced society by subverting the established norms of
system and institution regarding the general perception of women's place in society. ... Show more

Since she comes from an affluent background, she is more of a casualty to the demands of sexual
oppression. Her vibrant flow of sensuality is taken offence by the community of the times in which
she lived. Adhering to hegemony of social system, she has to marry many times in order to satisfy
her sexual desires. But in each of her six marriages she is unsatisfied, hence driving her to take

Comprehensive Reality-Based Sexuality Education Essay
Comprehensive Reality–Based Sexuality Education
What is comprehensive, reality–based sexuality education?
True comprehensive, reality–based sexuality education seeks to assist young people in
understanding a positive view of sexuality, provide them with information and skills about taking
care of their sexual health, and help them acquire skills to make decisions now and in the future.
Ideally, sexuality education is taught in ways that are age– and experience–appropriate in
kindergarten through 12th grade. It is taught by trained teachers who teach about: sexual
development, reproductive health, interpersonal relationships, affection, intimacy, body image, and
gender roles. The goal is to help young people grow into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The following list of values concerning sexuality was developed by the National Guidelines
Task Force:
Sexuality is a natural and healthy part of living.
All persons are sexual. Every person has dignity and self worth. Individuals express their sexuality
in varied ways. In a pluralistic society like the United States, people should respect and accept the
diversity of values and beliefs about sexuality that exist in a community. Sexual relationships should
never be coercive or exploitative. All children should be loved and cared for. All sexual decisions
have effects or consequences. All persons have the right and the obligation to make responsible
sexual choices. Individuals and society benefit when children are able to discuss sexuality with their
parents and/or other trusted adults. Young people explore their sexuality as a natural process of
achieving sexual maturity. Premature involvement in sexual behaviors poses risks. Abstaining from
sexual intercourse is the most effective method of preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted
infections. Young people who are involved in sexual relationships need access to information about
health care services.

Factors that Contribute to the Perception of...
Courtship was once viewed as a significant phase in a person's life in which individuals participated
in activities such as long walks in the park while under the supervision of adults and the community
(Lloyd, 1991). Although men would only act on courting behaviors when they proved to have the
means to provide for a future family, the activities did not involve an excessive amount of money
spending like it does today. While sexual exploitation has been used by many throughout the years,
individuals are becoming more aware of the tactics and cues used by one another. Men and women
casually date multiple individuals and deceive each other to increase their chances of sustaining a

As in the study with men, women were asked to view pictures of other women depicting specific
cues that could be associated with exploitability. In correspondence to the men's study, the
participating women found cues that depicted women as "easy," flirtatious, promiscuous, and
intoxicated to significantly correlate with exploitability; while cues such as anxious, intelligent, and
shy had a negative correlation. The study concluded that both men and women are aware of the cues
used in order to sexually exploit an individual. One can further conclude that women who are aware
of such cues use them as a means to attract a mate as well (Goetz et al., 2013).
While many individuals are in search for a lifelong partner, others are eager to casually date for a
short period of time. Although many studies suggest men are prone to use tactics for short–term
mating and women prefer long–term mating (Haselton, Buss, Oubaid, & Angleitner, 2005), women
also acquire short–term mating techniques (Buss & Schmitt, 1993). In the study measuring women's
perception of exploitable tactics by Goetz et al. (2013), researchers looked at women who were
more inclined to use exploitability tactics to attract a mate. Although the study found women
generally were more likely to use non–exploitative cues, those individuals who were more

Persuasive Essay : Dream Children By Gail Godwin
Storytelling has been used for all of human existence to pass down ideas and morals. Writing was
just the next step in allowing additional individuals to have access to the multitude of new stories
being created. When different people read the same story, they are able to glean different things
from it. This is due to the fact that people read the stories on different levels and with differing
viewpoints. Upon the first reading of "Dream Children", by Gail Godwin, a reader may view the
story as a timeless, boring love story. However, if a reader dives into the story from a feministic
approach, one sees a deeper plot where Mrs. McNair is imprisoned by societal norms and longs for
an understanding of her feelings and desires. In 1976, when the short story was written, the second
feminist wave was taking place. This movement focused on equality in the workplace, with the
success of having The Equal Credit Opportunity Act being passed two years prior to the release of
the short story and the first marital rape law enacted in Nebraska the same year. Godwin intertwined
the latter law, by mentioning how the McNairs "lay tenderly together on these weekends, like
childhood friends.... their mutual sorrow like a sword between them" (431). It is known that not all
husbands were as kind to their wives as now socially expected. Godwin uses the word "tenderly",
which demonstrates that feelings are still present between the two, but also hints that not all
marriages were tender. Just like

Connie Is Amidst An Immature Disobedience
The fifteen year old protagonist of the story, Connie is amidst an immature disobedience. She
contends with her mom and sister, June, and dismisses family life for investigating young men at the
neighborhood eatery. She tries to seem more established and shrewder than she is, and her head is
loaded with fantasies and prevalent music that sustain her thoughts of sentiment and affection. At
the point when Arnold Friend touches base at Connie's home, she should face the cruel substances of
adulthood, which look to some extent like her dreams. Connie rejects the part of being a little girl,
sister and 'pleasant' young lady to develop her sexual persona, which prospers just when she is far
from her home and family. She ridicules her unattractive more established sister, June, and is in
consistent clash with her family. Her worries are normally pre–adult: she fixates on her looks, listens
to music, hangs out with her companions, flirts with young men, and investigates her sexuality. She
enjoys the way that younger and even older men find her appealing. Connie has developed a specific
way of dressing, walking, and laughing that make her sexually engaging, in spite of the fact that
these idiosyncrasies are just brief affectations. She acts one way in her home and a completely
different way when she is somewhere else. "Everything about her had two sides to it, one for home
and one for anywhere that was not home: her walk, which could be childlike and bobbing, or

Examples Of Sexual Repression In Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
Sexual repression in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Sexual repression is a psychological disorder where
people cannot admit their sexuality to others because they feel ashamed about it. Suppressing these
intense feelings can lead to emotional stress. Some will even feel the need to abuse substances as a
coping mechanism. The consequences of repressed sexuality are explored in the play Cat on a Hot
Tin Roof, where author Tennessee Williams looks at homosexuality and alcoholism, two issues he
faced during his lifetime. Williams is able to express himself through the play's protagonist, Brick,
who struggles with these very same things. In the play however, Williams goes a step further by
looking at how repressed sexuality not only affects the individual, ... Show more content on

Brick has difficulty accepting the fact that he might be gay and, as such, does not open up about his
feelings. This constant repression leads to a poor relationship between him and his wife that lasts
throughout the play. Brick's repression causes Maggie to feel confined, although she does not seem
to know why at first. In one scene in the play, Maggie tries to get Brick to talk about the memory of
his friend, Skipper, but he just replies by pouring himself a drink. She clearly tries to facilitate
Brick's opening up to her about his feelings but he simply turns to alcohol as the constant cure to his
problems. Brick, as well as many repressed homosexuals, suffer from alcoholism as a consequence
to repression (Sutton). Maggie does not approach Brick's sexuality in a sympathetic way. She says,
in reference to Skipper, "You two had something that had to be kept on ice, yes, incorruptible, yes!"
(Williams 44). Maggie explains to Brick which indicates that she knew the true nature of Brick and
Skipper's relationship and how Skipper's memory will always be everlasting. She does not
sympathize with him and reminds him that it should be "kept on ice", encouraging him to keep his

Summary Of Gonad The Barbarian And The Venus Flytrap
Anne McClintock's "Gonad the Barbarian and the Venus Flytrap", focuses a lot of attention on how
from the beginning of history, women have been denied some of the basic rights and freedoms that
have been essential to the way that men live. Starting back from the times where they couldn't vote
and when women were basically seen as property when wedded. Women today and even in the
earlier days could not express their sexuality and could not show that they were sexual beings. Anne
McClintock gives the idea that women should be able to have the things that men have and they
should be able to express it in the same way as men. In this essay, I will analyze how Anne
McClintock views pornography as a form of pleasure that is mostly consumed by men and how
women are incorporated into the employment of the industry and even in the home setting. Anne
McClintock first talks about how women's sexuality has always been suppressed in many cultures
and societies around the world. There is a huge focus on making sure that men are taken care of
sexually and that they are able to go out and show their sexuality and not be ashamed of it. Men are
able to enjoy pornography and not feel guilty about enjoying it because it is apart of their nature.
Everyone knows that men masturbate and they are not really shy with talking about it but when it
comes to women it a foreign topic that if talked about makes you seem to promiscuous.
Anne McClintock shares her story of how she leaves South Africa and

Caaddy's Destruction
In William Faulkner's, The Sound and the Fury, he presents the first–person narratives of the three
Compson children as they remember their childhood, and handle the "loss" of their sister Caddy in
various ways. Within every section of the book we are given the views and thoughts of their sister
Caddy. The portrayal of Caddy throughout the sections shows the lack of faith the men have for
women in the story. Whether a guardian, a wishful lover, or a scornful menace, Caddy is somehow
the center of each narrative in the novel, yet she has no voice. This leaves the narrator confused as to
what to believe. With each narrative, the tale becomes more unreliable and more negative so the
further one reads, the less they understand. Each of these narratives contain chaos and showcase the
negative effects of the family's upbringing which is the main reason why the the three Compson
boys narrate the book and refuse to include any female perspectives. But why? Is it because of what
Caddy has done to each brother? Is it because the brothers only see her as evil and irrelevant. This
loss of Caddy's perspective creates a loss of the books true meaning, and thus the destruction of
truth from the novel forever. But why? Why do the brothers hate her? Why do they see her as "evil"?
Well, throughout the book the reader encounters Benjy calling Caddy a "tree", Quentin calling her
"honeysuckle" and Jason thinking of her as "chaos". Faulkner strategy is to mention these words and

Sexualisation can be defined as the imposing adult sexuality on to children and young people before
they are capable of coping with it usually through the media. In my investigation I aim to discover
the effects that sexualisation of men and women in music videos and the effects that this has,
mentally and emotionally, on the younger Australian generation. I also aim to discover the extent to
which music videos have been sexualized over time. In music videos the dancing or portrayal of the
people within these videos is often of a very sexual driven nature. This re–inforces the idea that
women are sexual objects and the purpose of their being is to provide the male population with

culture by rejecting the concept of clear sexual consent: there should never be any "blurred lines"

order to challenge the message portrayed by "blurred lines". The roles were reversed where the men

Sexuality Education : An Important And Compulsory Part Of...
Sexuality education is an important and compulsory part of the New Zealand (NZ) Curriculum.
Sexuality education is important so young people can feel empowered about their sexuality and
make positive informed decisions. Sexuality education across the country follows a similar outline
regulated by the Ministry of Education (MoE) but different students have various experiences and
learn different knowledge of sexuality in schools. I went to a religious all–girls school and
throughout this assignment I will be discussing my sexuality education in reference to significant
topics. These include the official and unofficial curriculum, heteronormativity, homophobia and the
missing discourse of desire.
The official curriculum in schools refers to the formal curriculum in schools that is explicitly set out
in school policy and forms a deliberate and intentional part of the curriculum. This occurs in areas
such as biology, religious studies and sexuality education. The official curriculum is said to be "non–
sexist, non–racist, non–discriminatory as well as students' abilities to be affirmed and their learning
needs as addressed (Minstry of Education, 2007). In schools the official curriculum mostly features
teaching of contraception, reproductive health, pregnancy, basic anatomy and Sexually Transmitted
Infections (STIs) (Allen, L., 2011). Schools stress this information and my school were no different
from this. At my high–school we learnt about these topics from year nine to year

The Future Of Sexuality Education : A Plan For All Age Levels
The Future of Sexuality Education: A Plan for All Age Levels Over the last 50 years there has been
an extreme societal shift in both the moral compass and the sexual behaviors of people; especially in

has forever changed the landscape of sexual behavior on both ends of the age spectrum. Thanks to

1933, Steinbeck comments on this story and his interest in Albee's opinion
of it. "...It is entirely different and is designed to strike without the
reader's knowledge. I mean he reads it casually and after it is finished
feels that something profound has happened to him although he does not know
what nor how." I knew after reading this, that Steinbeck is truly a marvel.

He doesn't quite catch
onto the eroticism of the story, and in stead, chooses to focus on the more
crude innuendoes. "...The chrysanthemum stalks seem to be phallic symbols,
and Eliza's "over–eager" snipping of them suggests castration. Then in the
"rooting" bed, Eliza herself becomes masculine, inserting the "little crisp
shoots" into open, receptive furrows" (Hughes 235). He goes on explaining
how the shoots became Eliza's children and how she communicates with the
tinker on how to care for them. This makes perfect sense, but Eliza seems
more concerned with the loss of her own life. For too long, the
chrysanthemums have served in place of children. She is looking into
reclaiming her own life, not finding another electric connection to live
her life through. Hughes seems to ignore this, because all women by nature
want to procreate and have children, right? The androgyny of Eliza's
character, however, would suggest otherwise. She isn't as pulled by that
biological need as Hughes would suggest.
Elizabeth E. McMahan is strong in saying that although people will
agree that "The Chrysanthemums" is a story of a woman's frustration, no one
can adequately explain why. McMahan attributes the frustration to her
unhappiness with her marriage. She explains that although she and Henry
have a relationship of "mutual respect," he has no gift

Positive Female Role Models Eliminate Negative Effects of...
Sexuality in the media is a major problem that influences the public both negatively and positively.
The article entitles "Positive female role models eliminate negative effects of sexually violent
media" written by Christopher J. Ferguson, tested four hypothesis as to whether or not the media
portrayal of women influence or impact depression, anxiety and negative attitudes of women of both
male or female. He also tested his hypotheses by concluding that sexuality violence is not only
found in pornographic films but also nonpornograhic films.
Sexually violent media encapsulates a broad category of media in which themes and violence are
intermingled. For instance such media may depict physical aggression by males against females (or

Six television shows were selected that expresses strong independent females and also weak
females. 7th Heaven and Gilmore girls was selected as the nonsexual and nonviolent show, The
Tudors and Masters of Horror was selected as sexually violent with negative/subordinate female
characters and Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Law and Order are sexually violent shows with strong
independent female characters.
The hypothesis was tested by using three measures. For Negative attitudes towards women, Spence
& Helmreich, Attitudes towards Women Scale was used. It is a 15–item Likert type scale that
queries respondents in regards to their beliefs about the equal rights of women in multiple
dimensions.() For Depression, The Beck Depression Inventory–II was sued to identify symptoms of
Depression. Scores ranging from 0 to 13 are indicative of minimum depression, 14–19 of mild
depression, 20–28 of moderate depression and 29–63 of severe depression (Ferguson, 2012). For
anxiety, The Beck Anxiety Inventory was used.

My Personal Experience Of Sexuality Education At Avondale...
The time at which we are at school is thought to be one of the most critical times of our lives. It is a
period in our life in which we start discovering ourselves and our sexualities.School is an institution
that is thought to provide enrichment in all aspects, not just academic stimulation but also emotional
maturity and psychological development.Sexuality education therefore has become a fundamental
aspect of one's learning as it not only enables us to formulate ideas regarding sexual identity and
gender but also allows us acknowledge ourselves as sexual beings. It can be argued that sexuality is
not 'the property of the individual and is not a hormonally or biologically given quality'
(Epstein,O'Flynn and Telford, 2003) but rather it is a socially constructed paradigm or notion that
permeates almost all aspects of not just schooling but our society, both formally and informally. This
'notion' of sexuality is ever–changing and it is made dynamic by particular events in history that
change our perspectives and priorities.By using my personal experience of sexuality education at
Avondale College and St.Dominic's College,I aim to demonstrate the ever increasing importance of
comprehensive sexuality education in New Zealand and show how the current curriculum very
successfully promotes heteronormativity but often fails to wholeheartedly acknowledge
desire, homosexualtity and teenage pregnancy. This failure to acknowlege key aspects of sexuality in
schools has numerous consequences

Society Is Made To Believe That There Are Natural...
Society is made to believe that there are natural distinctions between men and women in other words
men and women should act in a certain way according to the material presented in popular
magazines. Men are described as being strong and dominant and women are described as being
weak and emotional, (Hargreaves, J., 2012). Additionally magazines tell the public that men and
women must have different interests, men should be interested in getting drunk and driving cars
whereas women should be interested in shopping and wearing makeup, (Jacobson, N.S. and
Gottman, J.M., 1998). Despite that it is also clear that these fixed views are not an accurate
representation of what males and females are actually like. There is a possibility that ... Show more

Alternatively, individuals are confined to agreeing with the public's standards and acceptable
behaviours. Individuals are unable to speak openly about their sexuality because due to the media
the public does not represent certain sexualities as the norm, (DeFrancisco, V.P. and Palczewski,
C.H., 2007). Both men and women's lifestyle magazines have shown the public what the perfect
male and female is, with men's magazines representing 'laddish' behaviour and women's magazines
promoting feminine behaviour only to be able to please men, therefore excluding other sexualities as
they are not seen as the norm and are therefore not important, (BARTOŠKOVÁ, I., 2009). Foucault
would argue that these representations of the truth are due to scientific discourse and organisations
and are always being advertised in popular magazines and in the "education system and the flux of
economic and political ideologies", (Fowler, R., 2013). Therefore the debate about where popular
magazines tell the truth about magazines involves the discussion of whether magazines present the
truth or whether their representation of the truth is constructed, (Weaver, C.K., Motion, J. and Roper,
J., 2006). However, feminists would argue that magazines which promote women's sexuality and
represent men as being the dominant sex would become problematic in the long run, (Else–Mitchell,

Analysis Of Where Are You Going Where Have You Been
The Evilistic Nature Behind Mankind "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been" by Joyce
Carol Oates is a haunting short story capable of taking a reader on a freighting but realistic journey
of emotions. Revolving around a young girl in an adolescent rebellion phase, Oats creates a relatable
character that goes on to demonstrate the dangers of immaturity. Such a threat emerges from the
character who is often perceived by the reader as a predator. Throughout this story, these two main
characters are precisely used to build a captivating plot that highlights threats hitting society at the
turn of the late nineteenth century. The initial situation of any story is significantly important to
establishing a baseline for the reader. Oat's does this by constructing a piece that describes a summer
atmosphere and a young girl who spends most of her time lounging around the house or sneaking
around with friends. Connie, like most teenagers, is in the midst of trying to discover her
independence. This phase she appears to be experiencing is iconically known as a time where young
girls obsess over how beautiful they are or can become with the application of makeup and revealing
clothing. Adding to this, Oat's makes Connie even more relatable to the reader by using vivid
portrayals of an adolescent lost in a world of daydreams and music that slowly feed into her idea of
romance. Unique to Connie's character is her split personality. Oat's writes "Everything about her

In What ways is Sexuality portrayed as central to the conflicts of the individual–v–society in Ken
Kesey's 'One flew over the cuckoo's nest' and Tennessee Williams 'A street car named desire'?
The capacity of sexual feelings within the individual is central to both the development and
fundamental basis of any significant character. As observed in both 'One flew over the cuckoos nest'

Their appearances can consequently be said to be greatly symbolic of their role within the narrative.
The use of colour is also symbolic of character sexuality "Red hots!!" or "face and neck the colour
of oxblood leather", Red is symbolic of passion and is connected to
McMurphy and Stanley, whereas the colours "ivory"[5] and "pale blue"[6] are used in describing the
weaker characters that deny sexuality. The individuals' role within the narrative is dependant on the
conflict that arises, in these texts, due to variations within their own sexuality and society's
subsequent reactions. Sexual imagery also surrounds the characters; McMurphey and Stanley further
giving, once more, indication of their sexuality "big stiff thumb" or "having those coloured lights
going", more subtly there is also animalistic imagery
"Stanley stalks fiercely". The images constructed are emblematic of the characters sexuality in the
same way as the physical descriptions previously. Sexuality being established in a variety of ways to
then allow a character to be fully established, in doing so a character can be categorized into a
stereotype which means the audience can then envisage a potential outcome by using the rules of
conventionalism that are assigned with a stereotype. Despite the typecast of these two characters
through sexuality, the narrative that surrounds each is unique. This uniqueness allows the fight each

Gender Roles In Gold Diggers And Swing Time
From Fortunes to Pennies: The "Sexual Economics" of Ginger Rogers Both Gold Diggers of 1933
(Busby Berkeley, 1933) and Swing Time (George Stevens, 1936) feature the now–infamous Ginger
Rogers in two very different roles. In Gold Diggers, she plays a supporting role as the chorus girl
Fay Fortune, whereas in Swing Time, she is the top–billed star playing the show business hopeful
Penny Carol aside her perennial film and dance partner, Fred Astaire as show business veteran
Lucky Garnett. These two Ginger Rogers roles provide insight into the socioeconomic roles women
played in the societal landscape of the 1930s. By analyzing the same actress in two roles, one
leading and one supporting, in two film musicals produced three years apart, we can isolate exactly
what characteristics were fit for a leading lady at that point in film history. Upon close examination,
many of the changes made from the supporting role of Fay to the leading role of Penny can boil
down to two overarching themes: sexual repression and heterosexual coupling. A simple way to
begin tracking this evolution is by considering the wardrobes of the two characters. Penny's
wardrobe is very conservative. Her legs are almost always covered, even to the point of frustration
as it often obscures the view of her spectacular dancing and intricate footwork. Also, she tends to
wear very plain fabrics, and she is especially fond of white, which symbolically portrays the
virginal, pure personality we associate with Penny.

All it takes is a simple drive down the highway or a quick view of a magazine stand to see dozens of

people's lives and so we as a society have become complacent to them, it is expected to only see
very beautiful people on television shows, commercials, and other forms of entertainment and

Perfume Ad Analysis : Heat
Perfume Ad Analysis: Heat
Our entire lives, sex had been used to sell. It is only natural that we have a brain that responds to
certain primal instincts. Perfume, fashion, makeup, and many other advertisement companies have
created ads with sexual annotations. This now has become a social norm. These techniques have
been used for over hundreds of years in advertising, so now our minds are pre–programmed to look
at sexual imagery within advertisements. The more sexually provocative an ad is, the more people
will be drawn to them. For example, in the perfume ad that features Beyonce, a famous singer,
posing sexually in a provocative red satin dress with the word "HEAT" written above her head. This
ad is trying to persuade people into buying the perfume known as Heat. By using a color scheme of
mostly red and using Beyonce as the celebrity endorser of the product, helps this ad achieve pathos
and logos.
In the Heat perfume ad, Beyonce is posing in a very seductive way. Beyoncé's body language seems
as she is staring into the camera trying to seduce the audience into buying the perfume. Her legs are
slightly open wearing a revealing red silk dress that brings attention to her cleavage. The perfume is
not big or clear in this ad because they want us to focus more on the Beyonce leaning next to it. The
vibrant tones of red from her dress, background, and the perfume is a message of branding and sex
appeal. Since the product name is Heat, knowing that we associate red with things

The Pros And Cons Of Bombs
Bombs. The ultimate attention grabber has proven to be a weapon of mass destruction against
humanity numerous times throughout the short life of the weapon, even as recent as the bombing in
New York and New Jersey that took place in late September of 2016 prove exactly what they were
intended to prove: that humans are vulnerable in the face of fear. So many weapons have been used
to prove multiple points, so many that it's hard to list them all; racism, sexism, discrimination
against religion and sexuality, drugs and alcohol, all of these factor into the roles of fights everyday.
The continued assaults have caused every single person to question those around them, to be
constantly concerned about whether they'll come home that night or whether the night before was
the last night that they will see someone they love without having been murdered. Although my
generation wasn't alive before 9/11, which was one of the most devastating events of American

The Importance Of Hypersexualization Of Women In Advertising
Halloween. A joyous time filled with free candy, scary movies, funky costumes and... sexy cats? Do
women really like the idea of going out in skimpy skirts with exposed bellies in the cold Fall winds
or is there an underlying cultural standard at play? If you look at any forms of media outlets today,
you will most likely come across a theme of hypersexualization of women. Whether it is
advertisements, movies, celebrities, or even the lovely holiday that is Halloween, female
objectification is so common that we as a society has started to see it as the cultural norm. Not only
are women constantly being objectified, hypersexualization of women in media contribute to the
psychological oppression of women because it emphasizes the importance of appearances of
women, reinforces society's unachievable beauty standards, and promotes a male–dominated view
of how women should look and behave.
If you were somewhat hip during the last few years, then you have seen an American Apparel ad.
Most, if not all, American Apparel ads feature borderline nude women in extremely exposing poses.
For example, one controversial ad is a full body picture of a skinny young woman wearing nothing
but American Apparel socks. This theme of hypersexualizing women is very common in
advertisements, and especially for products targeted toward men, such as cologne and beer. Many of
these ads feature stereotypically attractive and hyper–fit women in little to no clothing bending over

The Strategies Of Finding A Mate
Lauren Soentgen Approach: 1, Source: Buss, 1994
In his article, The Strategies of Finding a Mate, David M. Buss discusses the act of finding a mate
and the characteristics that people are drawn to in a mate. He begins the article with a brief look at
the history of mating and the theories that have previously been proposed. In particular he addressed
Charles Darwin's theory of sexual evolution and belief in preferential mate choice. Buss proposes
that there are three components to human mating. He states that "human mating is inherently
strategic... mating strategies are context–dependent... [and that] men and women have faced
different mating problems over the course of human evolution and, as a consequence, have evolved
different strategies" (Buss, 1994, p. 241). He uses this theory to propose nine different hypotheses to
prove that despite humans being varied and different from each other, all humans look for similar
characteristics when trying to find a mate (Buss, 1994). To investigate his research hypotheses, Buss
collected data from two sources. His first source was college students in the United States. For his
second source, Buss (1994) worked with 50 other scientists in order to survey over 10,000 men and
women from around the world. This was his greatest strength in the article. He had collected so
much research that it made the data seem credible, and the fact that the participants came from
diverse backgrounds means it is a better representation of the

Essay about Sexual Harassment in the Workplace
Obviously, it is a very natural thing for men and women to be attracted to each other in sexual ways.
Men, more than women, have been historically known to be far more aggressive in their advances
toward women sexually and it varies from each woman as to how these aggressive advances make
them feel. Advances such as whistling, bottom pinching and glaring are the types of things some
men do to women in an attempt to show they are sexually attracted to them. These types of advances
can be attempted just about anywhere; the beach, the mall, in night clubs, walking down the street,
or even in their place of employment. Where should the line be drawn as to where these

Sexual harassment in itself is not new, women have been harassed at work ever since they have
worked alongside men. In 1840, women working in the mines were described in a Royal
Commission investigation as being constantly pressured for sexual favors by men. The actual term
of sexual harassment is relatively new. A women's movement in the 1970's brought the term to the
United States and it became widely known in the United Kingdom in the 1980's(2). As time has
continued to move and women began to fill up the workforce, the issue has become a bigger
problem. Obviously, since there are more women and men working together, there are going to be
more cases of sexual harassment. Since sexual harassment, as an act, has been going on for
centuries, there is no conclusive evidence as to what studies pinpointed the problem as to when and
where it began. However, many studies have been conducted since sexual harassment has become
more of a problem and these studies deal with the definition from different people as well as the
extreme cases of what was actually said and done. Many case studies are being conducted in order
to obtain a true since of what is being said and they provide information to the workforce as to the
extremes of some cases. Barbara Gutek, in her book Sex and the Workplace, provided a series of
sexually harassing experiences from women as well as mutually entered social–sexual experiences
that occurred in the workplace.

There have been many speculations about porn and its significance. Many would argue there is no

A lot of people have this view on porn and think the people are just nasty and immoral and grew up
with no values. But times that is not always the case. Some of the performers enjoy the intimacy and
excitement they get from performing. I once knew a porn star and he was simply just doing it to
make enough money to move his family to the United States and better his life. And sure enough he
is doing very well now, and he was one of the most respectful guys I have ever met, was raised in a
good Catholic family and had a great large family in which he moved all of them from Brazil.
Conclusion
When it comes to pornography society views it as something other then normal that should be
excluded. However, due to the popular demand and increase in the people watching it I don't believe
it will be banned, or erased from society. Because the truth is we are living in a time were sexuality
is acceptable, and should not be frown upon. So in conclusion, I don't think that it is something bad,
and I don't feel that it is right fro people always discrediting a women in the industry. They like what

Sexuality Education Is Not All About Sex
Sexuality is huge and even more for those living with special needs especially because they tend to
get totalized by their illness. Often their sexuality will be looked over or forgotten regardless of their
desire and need to feel wanted intimately. Sexuality education is not all about sex. "Sexuality
education is a life–long process that encompasses many things: the biological, socio–cultural,
psychological, and spiritual dimensions of sexuality" (Gerhardt, 2012). Sexuality education is about
safety, love, identity, sexual and nonsexual relationships, intimacy, positive adaptive behaviors,
increased self–esteem, and pro–social behaviors (Hartman, 2014). Not many parents enjoy the idea

3. Are there any known applications of technology developed to address these issues (e.g. ABA tools
or psychoeducational or social skills training programs)? 4. What does the research in this area
suggest for future studies and new program development? This is a topic that makes people
uncomfortable because of the attached stigmas and taboos. This makes being honest, open, and
serious about this topic difficult. "Sexuality is an integral part of the personality of everyone: man,
woman, and child. It is a basic need and an aspect of being human that cannot be separated from
other aspects of human life. Sexuality if not synonymous with sexual intercourse and it influences
thoughts, feelings, actions, and interactions, and thereby our mental and physical health" (World
Health Organization). What I like about this definition is that it states that sexuality is a social and
adaptive behavior that is part of human development and influences out sexual health. Sexual health
is "a state of physical, mental, and social well–being in a relation to sexuality. It requires a positive
and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having
pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination, and violence" (World
Health Organization). This definition highlights that sexual health is related to our well–being and
relating it to having safe sexual experiences. Again, the topic of sexuality

Gupta, Charu. 2001. Sexuality, Obscenity, Community: Women, Muslims and the Hindu Public in
Colonial India. Delhi: Permanent Black
Charu Gupta's work, 'Sexuality, Obscenity, Community: Women, Muslims and the Hindu Public in
Colonial India', published in 2001, provides an enlightening view on themes including gender,
sexuality and religion, all in the context of the British Colonialism and the rise of the Hindu
nationalist ideology. In the second chapter, 'Redefining obscenity in Aesthetics and Print', Gupta
focuses on the "moral panic" in Colonial India regarding representations of sexuality and ideas of
obscenity in print. (p.30) She examines the attempts made by British Colonial and Hindu moralists
to utilize printed literature in order to promote a civilised, celibate society, and scrutinizes the ways
in which this was used to police and discredit particularly female, but also male sexual and social
identities. Gupta then sets this against the apparent obscenity and semi–pornographic nature of
popular literature, and argues that this provided a "serious challenge" to the moralist mind–set by
resisting and inverting the elite's attempts to control the Hindu public. (p.30) This view provides an
insightful understanding of the diversities and consistencies of print culture, and throughout the
chapter, Gupta corroborates her points utilizing a broad range of literary and textual evidence,
including books, poems, pamphlets, songs and advertisements, which

Sexuality Education Scope And Barriers

  • 1. The Scope Of Sexuality Education Introduction While a lot of medical attention is provided to individuals with developmental disability, little has been done to ensure that their sexual lifestyles are not affected. There are multiple barriers which include lack of attention by the common people as well as misconception about sexuality. It is often misunderstood that individuals with disabilities do not exhibit a desire and are incapable of having a sexual understanding of life, thus not able to fulfil their sexual needs (Murphy and Elias, 2006). In terms of quality of life, we have a different point of view which suggests that those having moderate to severe disabilities lack the skill which will lead to a socially sensitive quality of life, since they are behind in terms of education (Harader, Fullwood, and Hawthrone, 2009). A good way to bust these myths would be to create a definition of sexuality and the various associated components. There are various definitions available which try to provide a diverse avenue to the scope of sexuality education. There is little doubt that those with a superior access to education or information lead a fear–free life, away from verbal or physical abuse, various unplanned pregnancies or various sexually transmitted diseases (STD's) (Murphy and Young, 2005). Research also shows that when it comes to opportunity, individuals with developmental disabilities are often not provided with the same (Boehning, 2006). On instances, access to such opportunity is denied ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Gender And Sexuality : What The Standards Of Public... My entire life has been spent in a small town in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where a very conservative mindset is in place. This conservative mindset not only stands for its politics, but affects a person's religion or lack thereof, what the standards of public education include, the types of art productions showcased within the schools, and a repression of self–identity, such as a person's gender and sexuality. Throughout much of my life, I questioned few of these aspects of mine and my community's life. However, in the last few years, specifically high school and on, I have tried to educate myself on these topics as I have grown to know people that deal with different identities involving gender and sexuality. I also became more aware of the inequalities that are present between genders and the social stigmas that come with it, facing my own issues due to identifying as a woman; although, it is not just women that face issues with gender, but people who identify as men and beyond the spectrum of just men and women. My assumptions about gender have changed dramatically throughout the years and–honestly–in the past few months due to friends who have identified as someone other than a man or woman. When I think about gender, I immediately think that someone, more than likely, identifies as a man or a woman. My conditioning–or my influences– have shaped this in my life; however, there are multitudinous ways to describe someone's gender or lack thereof, when I actually think ... • 5. Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? The Cultural Revolution and Sexual Desires in Oates's "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been" The late 1950s was a time of cultural revolution which had a large influence on the American youth. "As the next decade drew near, issues such as civil rights, war, women 's rights, and the sexual revolution would deeply affect many American teenagers. The conservative family values and morals that predominated in the 1950s were just beginning to be challenged as the decade came to a close" (Moss and Wilson 3). As a result, many teenagers lost the conservative morals of the 1950s and became more independent. In "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" by Joyce Carol Oates, Connie represents the result of this cultural revolution. Criticized by her mother for her promiscuity, Connie is an independent girl who often hangs out with her friends trying to attract boys. In doing so, she attracts a sexual predator named Arnold Friend who visits her at her home to try to get her to leave with him to presumably rape her. At the end of the story, Connie chooses to go with him. Connie gets into this dangerous situation because of a mistaken belief on her self–worth, the loss of morals by her and the adults in the story, and the influence of the 1960s popular music. Looking at "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" through the historical and feminist lenses, suggests that the story is really about how the misconceptions on self–worth and the diversion of 1960s society from ... • 7. Human Sexuality Education : A Natural Part Of Our Everyday... Human Sexuality Education Paper As a very natural part of our everyday lives and existence as humans, it is perplexing how so many Americans are undereducated about human reproductive systems and sex organs, their structures and functions, and the various effects and consequences of human sexuality. The responsibility of properly educating young people about human sexuality is in the hands of parents and schools. Educational programs in U. S. schools today, such as Abstinence Only and Abstinence Plus programs, may not provide adequate information to teach young people how to make knowledgable decisions in real–life situations about sex. Comprehensive Sexuality Education programs have been shown to be much more effective at preventing teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STI 's; SEICUS). As it is an extremely broad topic, "Sexuality education is a life–long process of acquiring information and forming attitudes, beliefs, and values" (SEICUS). However, the acquisition of fundamental knowledge, credible information, and appropriate health resources can help in this life–long process and minimize unwanted or negative effects. Perhaps the most important aspect of a quality sexual education program is for young people and their parents or guardians to feel comfortable talking with one another about the topic. If children are uncomfortable asking their parents questions about human sexuality, it is highly likely that they will not turn to their parents for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Witch Craze Of The Sixteenth And Seventeenth Centuries Gender, race, age, and ability have been used to shape the history and our understanding of human sexuality, as well as how certain groups, specifically marginalized groups, were seen as degenerate or delinquent people. When examining why and how specific groups of people were though of as being sexual delinquents, it is important to use an intersectional lens, and consider how these different categories and identities of gender, race, age, and ability work together to form experiences and opinions. By marginalizing, controlling, and regulating the sexualities and bodies of those who were women, people of colour, adolescents, or differentially abled, the social norm of a white, heterosexual, patriarchy has been enforced through history. Throughout the history of humankind, women's bodies and sexuality have been critiqued, chastised, and judged by society. During the witch craze of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, many women were accused of being evil beings. Over 60,000 women were wrongfully executed by their accusers . It was believed that woman who were midwives, challenged male authority, or were sexually promiscuous and given themselves to Satin and were now evil and immoral beings. The more "feminine" senses, touch, smell, and taste were often associated with being a witch . By accusing women who were sexual agents or who were associated with women's bodies or sexuality (such as midwives) of being evil and executing them, men were able to use gender to ... • 11. Is Abstinence Only Education For Adolescents Of Various... Not only does abstinence only education exclude adolescents of various sexualities, but it fails to regard the health of teenaged girls as well. The repression of female representation in health courses has contributed to the magnification of the gender stereotypes, where women are ideally portrayed as pure vessels if they remain virgins until marriage. Therefore, young girls should remain chaste and pubescent boys naturally have a rampant sexuality due to their uncontrollable hormones. Traditional gender roles are then reinforced, disregarding female sexuality thus alienating them within their health courses since they are not educationally included. This form of instruction censors out necessary sexual guidance concerning their respective reproductive health. For example, details about contraception, abortion, human sexuality, and sexual assault specifically concerning females are neglected within the classroom. Health courses have long–established condoms as the popularized and primary way of having protective sex. But what school boards don't incorporate in their curricula is that there are various methods of contraception, precisely for women. For example, there are birth control pills, hormone implants, cervical caps, and vaginal rings. Although these preventative measures do not safeguard for STI and HIV contraction, they can decrease the likelihood of having an unintended pregnancy by ceasing ovulation or preventing sperm flow in the vagina by increasing the hormones ... • 13. Sexual Despotism In Susanna's Seven Husband By Ruskin Bond Ruskin Bond, rightly observed as 'Wordsworth' of India, has made eminent contribution to Indian writing in English. His works, sophisticated yet simple, convey a large and complex meaning inherent in Indian life and culture. Prominently recognized for his treatment of nature, children and childhood in his notable works, Bond also established himself as an illustrious promoter of feminism. Under the wrap of dark comedy, he gracefully touches on the subject of sexual despotism and repression meted out towards women. In Susanna's Seven Husbands, he ruthlessly brings out the subjugation that a woman faces in a prejudiced society by subverting the established norms of system and institution regarding the general perception of women's place in society. ... She had grown up "unaccustomed to male company" (06), and is captivated with one when she comes into contact with them in her adulthood. Since she comes from an affluent background, she is more of a casualty to the demands of sexual oppression. Her vibrant flow of sensuality is taken offence by the community of the times in which she lived. Adhering to hegemony of social system, she has to marry many times in order to satisfy her sexual desires. But in each of her six marriages she is unsatisfied, hence driving her to take monastic vow in the end. To join a nunnery at those times could be comprehend as the only way Susanna could control her excessive natural desires. She is held in esteem by everyone especially her servants who possess mutual concern, love and loyalty for their mistress. She is tender and kind; "Yes, she was kind to children and an animal even to old creatures and freaks...Her cruelty was reserved for another species of human..." (05) Her warm attitude toward animals, children, the marginalized or abnormal, and her contempt for men bring into dark contrast the recurring betrayal by them, hopelessness and expectation to stay in the confinement of patriarchy which holds the rein of liberation of passion placed on men and women. This leads Susanna to gaze at them in abhorrence, and incline ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Comprehensive Reality-Based Sexuality Education Essay Comprehensive Reality–Based Sexuality Education What is comprehensive, reality–based sexuality education? True comprehensive, reality–based sexuality education seeks to assist young people in understanding a positive view of sexuality, provide them with information and skills about taking care of their sexual health, and help them acquire skills to make decisions now and in the future. Ideally, sexuality education is taught in ways that are age– and experience–appropriate in kindergarten through 12th grade. It is taught by trained teachers who teach about: sexual development, reproductive health, interpersonal relationships, affection, intimacy, body image, and gender roles. The goal is to help young people grow into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The following list of values concerning sexuality was developed by the National Guidelines Task Force: Sexuality is a natural and healthy part of living. All persons are sexual. Every person has dignity and self worth. Individuals express their sexuality in varied ways. In a pluralistic society like the United States, people should respect and accept the diversity of values and beliefs about sexuality that exist in a community. Sexual relationships should never be coercive or exploitative. All children should be loved and cared for. All sexual decisions have effects or consequences. All persons have the right and the obligation to make responsible sexual choices. Individuals and society benefit when children are able to discuss sexuality with their parents and/or other trusted adults. Young people explore their sexuality as a natural process of achieving sexual maturity. Premature involvement in sexual behaviors poses risks. Abstaining from sexual intercourse is the most effective method of preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Young people who are involved in sexual relationships need access to information about health care services. [Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education, National Guidelines Task Force, SIECUS, 1991.] Why should schools be involved in sexuality education?

  • 18. Factors that Contribute to the Perception of... Courtship was once viewed as a significant phase in a person's life in which individuals participated in activities such as long walks in the park while under the supervision of adults and the community (Lloyd, 1991). Although men would only act on courting behaviors when they proved to have the means to provide for a future family, the activities did not involve an excessive amount of money spending like it does today. While sexual exploitation has been used by many throughout the years, individuals are becoming more aware of the tactics and cues used by one another. Men and women casually date multiple individuals and deceive each other to increase their chances of sustaining a mate, whether it be for a short–term or long–term period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As in the study with men, women were asked to view pictures of other women depicting specific cues that could be associated with exploitability. In correspondence to the men's study, the participating women found cues that depicted women as "easy," flirtatious, promiscuous, and intoxicated to significantly correlate with exploitability; while cues such as anxious, intelligent, and shy had a negative correlation. The study concluded that both men and women are aware of the cues used in order to sexually exploit an individual. One can further conclude that women who are aware of such cues use them as a means to attract a mate as well (Goetz et al., 2013). While many individuals are in search for a lifelong partner, others are eager to casually date for a short period of time. Although many studies suggest men are prone to use tactics for short–term mating and women prefer long–term mating (Haselton, Buss, Oubaid, & Angleitner, 2005), women also acquire short–term mating techniques (Buss & Schmitt, 1993). In the study measuring women's perception of exploitable tactics by Goetz et al. (2013), researchers looked at women who were more inclined to use exploitability tactics to attract a mate. Although the study found women generally were more likely to use non–exploitative cues, those individuals who were more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My back was pressed against the wall, partly because I couldn't stand up straight on my own. You 're a good girl... The obnoxious music penetrated deep past my ear drum and pumped through me. The stench of sweat and stale foamy beer consumed the air. Blackness engulfed me and all the other one hundred clammy bodies in the room. Their erratic body movements were revealed to the wandering eyes only when the disco ball flashed its blinding lights on them. Can 't let it get past me. You're far from plastic. Talk about getting blasted... He was leaning against the wall right next to me. His hand was wrapped around my waist, which pulled me closer and closer to him. I thought nothing of it. I hate these blurred lines... Alcohol and adrenaline spread their dizzying magic through my head. I tried to hold onto my clarity, but I watched myself nervously laughing at his every word and swaying back and forth more and more often. That August day I set out into Collegetown to assert my independence from my parents by experiencing for the first time the so–called magic and wonder of fraternity parties without my parents' consent. The ostentatiousness, elation, and novelty that define college parties in movies as a place where college students blow off steam allured me; college parties are depicted in pop culture as the quintessential Friday night. ... • 22. Persuasive Essay : Dream Children By Gail Godwin Storytelling has been used for all of human existence to pass down ideas and morals. Writing was just the next step in allowing additional individuals to have access to the multitude of new stories being created. When different people read the same story, they are able to glean different things from it. This is due to the fact that people read the stories on different levels and with differing viewpoints. Upon the first reading of "Dream Children", by Gail Godwin, a reader may view the story as a timeless, boring love story. However, if a reader dives into the story from a feministic approach, one sees a deeper plot where Mrs. McNair is imprisoned by societal norms and longs for an understanding of her feelings and desires. In 1976, when the short story was written, the second feminist wave was taking place. This movement focused on equality in the workplace, with the success of having The Equal Credit Opportunity Act being passed two years prior to the release of the short story and the first marital rape law enacted in Nebraska the same year. Godwin intertwined the latter law, by mentioning how the McNairs "lay tenderly together on these weekends, like childhood friends.... their mutual sorrow like a sword between them" (431). • 24. Connie Is Amidst An Immature Disobedience The fifteen year old protagonist of the story, Connie is amidst an immature disobedience. She contends with her mom and sister, June, and dismisses family life for investigating young men at the neighborhood eatery. She tries to seem more established and shrewder than she is, and her head is loaded with fantasies and prevalent music that sustain her thoughts of sentiment and affection. At the point when Arnold Friend touches base at Connie's home, she should face the cruel substances of adulthood, which look to some extent like her dreams. Connie rejects the part of being a little girl, sister and 'pleasant' young lady to develop her sexual persona, which prospers just when she is far from her home and family. She ridicules her unattractive more established sister, June, and is in consistent clash with her family. Her worries are normally pre–adult: she fixates on her looks, listens to music, hangs out with her companions, flirts with young men, and investigates her sexuality. She enjoys the way that younger and even older men find her appealing. Connie has developed a specific way of dressing, walking, and laughing that make her sexually engaging, in spite of the fact that these idiosyncrasies are just brief affectations. She acts one way in her home and a completely different way when she is somewhere else. "Everything about her had two sides to it, one for home and one for anywhere that was not home: her walk, which could be childlike and bobbing, or languid enough to ... • 26. Examples Of Sexual Repression In Cat On A Hot Tin Roof Sexual repression in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Sexual repression is a psychological disorder where people cannot admit their sexuality to others because they feel ashamed about it. Suppressing these intense feelings can lead to emotional stress. Some will even feel the need to abuse substances as a coping mechanism. The consequences of repressed sexuality are explored in the play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, where author Tennessee Williams looks at homosexuality and alcoholism, two issues he faced during his lifetime. Williams is able to express himself through the play's protagonist, Brick, who struggles with these very same things. In the play however, Williams goes a step further by looking at how repressed sexuality not only affects the individual, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brick has difficulty accepting the fact that he might be gay and, as such, does not open up about his feelings. This constant repression leads to a poor relationship between him and his wife that lasts throughout the play. Brick's repression causes Maggie to feel confined, although she does not seem to know why at first. In one scene in the play, Maggie tries to get Brick to talk about the memory of his friend, Skipper, but he just replies by pouring himself a drink. She clearly tries to facilitate Brick's opening up to her about his feelings but he simply turns to alcohol as the constant cure to his problems. Brick, as well as many repressed homosexuals, suffer from alcoholism as a consequence to repression (Sutton). Maggie does not approach Brick's sexuality in a sympathetic way. She says, in reference to Skipper, "You two had something that had to be kept on ice, yes, incorruptible, yes!" (Williams 44). Maggie explains to Brick which indicates that she knew the true nature of Brick and Skipper's relationship and how Skipper's memory will always be everlasting. Because of the "shame–based sexuality education" discovered in recent years, Godley feels that the American educational system is in need of a radical change. She asserts that American adults should be responsible for the future generations. The media should not impose restriction on what people should of become. • 30. Summary Of Gonad The Barbarian And The Venus Flytrap Anne McClintock's "Gonad the Barbarian and the Venus Flytrap", focuses a lot of attention on how from the beginning of history, women have been denied some of the basic rights and freedoms that have been essential to the way that men live. Starting back from the times where they couldn't vote and when women were basically seen as property when wedded. Women today and even in the earlier days could not express their sexuality and could not show that they were sexual beings. Anne McClintock gives the idea that women should be able to have the things that men have and they should be able to express it in the same way as men. In this essay, I will analyze how Anne McClintock views pornography as a form of pleasure that is mostly consumed by men and how women are incorporated into the employment of the industry and even in the home setting. Anne McClintock first talks about how women's sexuality has always been suppressed in many cultures and societies around the world. There is a huge focus on making sure that men are taken care of sexually and that they are able to go out and show their sexuality and not be ashamed of it. Men are able to enjoy pornography and not feel guilty about enjoying it because it is apart of their nature. Everyone knows that men masturbate and they are not really shy with talking about it but when it comes to women it a foreign topic that if talked about makes you seem to promiscuous. • 32. Caaddy's Destruction In William Faulkner's, The Sound and the Fury, he presents the first–person narratives of the three Compson children as they remember their childhood, and handle the "loss" of their sister Caddy in various ways. Within every section of the book we are given the views and thoughts of their sister Caddy. The portrayal of Caddy throughout the sections shows the lack of faith the men have for women in the story. Whether a guardian, a wishful lover, or a scornful menace, Caddy is somehow the center of each narrative in the novel, yet she has no voice. This leaves the narrator confused as to what to believe. With each narrative, the tale becomes more unreliable and more negative so the further one reads, the less they understand. Each of these narratives contain chaos and showcase the negative effects of the family's upbringing which is the main reason why the the three Compson boys narrate the book and refuse to include any female perspectives. But why? Is it because of what Caddy has done to each brother? Is it because the brothers only see her as evil and irrelevant. This loss of Caddy's perspective creates a loss of the books true meaning, and thus the destruction of truth from the novel forever. But why? Why do the brothers hate her? Why do they see her as "evil"? Well, throughout the book the reader encounters Benjy calling Caddy a "tree", Quentin calling her "honeysuckle" and Jason thinking of her as "chaos". In my investigation I aim to discover the effects that sexualisation of men and women in music videos and the effects that this has, mentally and emotionally, on the younger Australian generation. I also aim to discover the extent to which music videos have been sexualized over time. In music videos the dancing or portrayal of the people within these videos is often of a very sexual driven nature. Sexuality education across the country follows a similar outline regulated by the Ministry of Education (MoE) but different students have various experiences and learn different knowledge of sexuality in schools. I went to a religious all–girls school and throughout this assignment I will be discussing my sexuality education in reference to significant topics. These include the official and unofficial curriculum, heteronormativity, homophobia and the missing discourse of desire. This occurs in areas such as biology, religious studies and sexuality education. The official curriculum is said to be "non– sexist, non–racist, non–discriminatory as well as students' abilities to be affirmed and their learning needs as addressed (Minstry of Education, 2007). The time at which we are at school is thought to be one of the most critical times of our lives. It is a period in our life in which we start discovering ourselves and our sexualities.School is an institution that is thought to provide enrichment in all aspects, not just academic stimulation but also emotional maturity and psychological development.Sexuality education therefore has become a fundamental aspect of one's learning as it not only enables us to formulate ideas regarding sexual identity and gender but also allows us acknowledge ourselves as sexual beings. It can be argued that sexuality is not 'the property of the individual and is not a hormonally or biologically given quality' (Epstein,O'Flynn and Telford, 2003) but rather it is a socially constructed paradigm or notion that permeates almost all aspects of not just schooling but our society, both formally and informally. This 'notion' of sexuality is ever–changing and it is made dynamic by particular events in history that change our perspectives and priorities.By using my personal experience of sexuality education at Avondale College and St.Dominic's College,I aim to demonstrate the ever increasing importance of comprehensive sexuality education in New Zealand and show how the current curriculum very successfully promotes heteronormativity but often fails to wholeheartedly acknowledge desire, homosexualtity and teenage pregnancy. This failure to acknowlege key aspects of sexuality in schools has numerous consequences ... Individuals are unable to speak openly about their sexuality because due to the media the public does not represent certain sexualities as the norm, (DeFrancisco, V.P. and Palczewski, C.H., 2007). Both men and women's lifestyle magazines have shown the public what the perfect male and female is, with men's magazines representing 'laddish' behaviour and women's magazines promoting feminine behaviour only to be able to please men, therefore excluding other sexualities as they are not seen as the norm and are therefore not important, (BARTOŠKOVÁ, I., 2009). Foucault would argue that these representations of the truth are due to scientific discourse and organisations and are always being advertised in popular magazines and in the "education system and the flux of economic and political ideologies", (Fowler, R., 2013). Therefore the debate about where popular magazines tell the truth about magazines involves the discussion of whether magazines present the truth or whether their representation of the truth is constructed, (Weaver, C.K., Motion, J. and Roper, J., 2006). Analysis Of Where Are You Going Where Have You Been The Evilistic Nature Behind Mankind "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been" by Joyce Carol Oates is a haunting short story capable of taking a reader on a freighting but realistic journey of emotions. Revolving around a young girl in an adolescent rebellion phase, Oats creates a relatable character that goes on to demonstrate the dangers of immaturity. Such a threat emerges from the character who is often perceived by the reader as a predator. Throughout this story, these two main characters are precisely used to build a captivating plot that highlights threats hitting society at the turn of the late nineteenth century. The initial situation of any story is significantly important to establishing a baseline for the reader. Oat's does this by constructing a piece that describes a summer atmosphere and a young girl who spends most of her time lounging around the house or sneaking around with friends. Connie, like most teenagers, is in the midst of trying to discover her independence. This phase she appears to be experiencing is iconically known as a time where young girls obsess over how beautiful they are or can become with the application of makeup and revealing clothing. Adding to this, Oat's makes Connie even more relatable to the reader by using vivid portrayals of an adolescent lost in a world of daydreams and music that slowly feed into her idea of romance. These two Ginger Rogers roles provide insight into the socioeconomic roles women played in the societal landscape of the 1930s. Upon close examination, many of the changes made from the supporting role of Fay to the leading role of Penny can boil down to two overarching themes: sexual repression and heterosexual coupling. A simple way to begin tracking this evolution is by considering the wardrobes of the two characters. Penny's wardrobe is very conservative. Although my generation wasn't alive before 9/11, which was one of the most devastating events of American history, we have come to coexist with bombing of our own time (the night club shooting in Orlando, the bombings in New York and New Jersey, the I–10 shooter in the early ... The belief the America is a melting pot (or should be a melting pot) is wrong for many reasons, one of them being that, in trying to create this "melting pot", people have been severely injured to the point of being crippled and/or death. The American Identity can't be pinpointed to just one conclusion for my generation, given the conflict throughout the differing minds of them. However, the American Identity should consist of being truly free, and not having to worry about being killed for anything that you can't control (race, sexuality, religion, etc). It should be the symbol for hope, freedom, integrity, and joy, not murder and being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. The Importance Of Hypersexualization Of Women In Advertising Halloween. A joyous time filled with free candy, scary movies, funky costumes and... sexy cats? Do women really like the idea of going out in skimpy skirts with exposed bellies in the cold Fall winds or is there an underlying cultural standard at play? If you look at any forms of media outlets today, you will most likely come across a theme of hypersexualization of women. Whether it is advertisements, movies, celebrities, or even the lovely holiday that is Halloween, female objectification is so common that we as a society has started to see it as the cultural norm. Not only are women constantly being objectified, hypersexualization of women in media contribute to the psychological oppression of women because it emphasizes the importance of appearances of women, reinforces society's unachievable beauty standards, and promotes a male–dominated view of how women should look and behave. If you were somewhat hip during the last few years, then you have seen an American Apparel ad. Most, if not all, American Apparel ads feature borderline nude women in extremely exposing poses. For example, one controversial ad is a full body picture of a skinny young woman wearing nothing but American Apparel socks. This theme of hypersexualizing women is very common in advertisements, and especially for products targeted toward men, such as cologne and beer. Many of these ads feature stereotypically attractive and hyper–fit women in little to no clothing bending over in suggestive ways have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. The Strategies Of Finding A Mate Lauren Soentgen Approach: 1, Source: Buss, 1994 In his article, The Strategies of Finding a Mate, David M. Buss discusses the act of finding a mate and the characteristics that people are drawn to in a mate. He begins the article with a brief look at the history of mating and the theories that have previously been proposed. In particular he addressed Charles Darwin's theory of sexual evolution and belief in preferential mate choice. Buss proposes that there are three components to human mating. He states that "human mating is inherently strategic... mating strategies are context–dependent... [and that] men and women have faced different mating problems over the course of human evolution and, as a consequence, have evolved different strategies" (Buss, 1994, p. 241). He uses this theory to propose nine different hypotheses to prove that despite humans being varied and different from each other, all humans look for similar characteristics when trying to find a mate (Buss, 1994). To investigate his research hypotheses, Buss collected data from two sources. His first source was college students in the United States. For his second source, Buss (1994) worked with 50 other scientists in order to survey over 10,000 men and women from around the world. This was his greatest strength in the article. He had collected so much research that it made the data seem credible, and the fact that the participants came from diverse backgrounds means it is a better representation of the ... • 71. Essay about Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Obviously, it is a very natural thing for men and women to be attracted to each other in sexual ways. Men, more than women, have been historically known to be far more aggressive in their advances toward women sexually and it varies from each woman as to how these aggressive advances make them feel. Advances such as whistling, bottom pinching and glaring are the types of things some men do to women in an attempt to show they are sexually attracted to them. These types of advances can be attempted just about anywhere; the beach, the mall, in night clubs, walking down the street, or even in their place of employment. Where should the line be drawn as to where these advancements are appropriate and what can a woman do to protect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sexual harassment in itself is not new, women have been harassed at work ever since they have worked alongside men. In 1840, women working in the mines were described in a Royal Commission investigation as being constantly pressured for sexual favors by men. The actual term of sexual harassment is relatively new. A women's movement in the 1970's brought the term to the United States and it became widely known in the United Kingdom in the 1980's(2). As time has continued to move and women began to fill up the workforce, the issue has become a bigger problem. Obviously, since there are more women and men working together, there are going to be more cases of sexual harassment. Since sexual harassment, as an act, has been going on for centuries, there is no conclusive evidence as to what studies pinpointed the problem as to when and where it began. However, many studies have been conducted since sexual harassment has become more of a problem and these studies deal with the definition from different people as well as the extreme cases of what was actually said and done. Many case studies are being conducted in order to obtain a true since of what is being said and they provide information to the workforce as to the extremes of some cases. Barbara Gutek, in her book Sex and the Workplace, provided a series of sexually harassing experiences from women as well as mutually entered social–sexual experiences that occurred in the workplace. ... HSC 425: Human Sexuality And Sex Education California State University Long Beach HSC 425: Human Sexuality and Sex Education December 3, 2016 Women in the Porn Industry Multidisciplinary Paper Bianca Batista Word count: 1882 words There have been many speculations about porn and its significance. Many would argue there is no sole purpose for it other then opening up doors for people to fantasize about things that generally do not happen in a normal sexual encounter. However, that is quite the contrary research has shown over the past decade that porn isn't entirely 100% bad. Although, there are negative connotations associated with porn especially for a female, researchers are finding that more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A lot of people have this view on porn and think the people are just nasty and immoral and grew up with no values. But times that is not always the case. Some of the performers enjoy the intimacy and excitement they get from performing. I once knew a porn star and he was simply just doing it to make enough money to move his family to the United States and better his life. And sure enough he is doing very well now, and he was one of the most respectful guys I have ever met, was raised in a good Catholic family and had a great large family in which he moved all of them from Brazil. Conclusion When it comes to pornography society views it as something other then normal that should be excluded. However, due to the popular demand and increase in the people watching it I don't believe it will be banned, or erased from society. Because the truth is we are living in a time were sexuality is acceptable, and should not be frown upon. So in conclusion, I don't think that it is something bad, and I don't feel that it is right fro people always discrediting a women in the industry. They like what they do and if they can live with themselves and their choices then who are we as a society to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Sexuality Education Is Not All About Sex Sexuality is huge and even more for those living with special needs especially because they tend to get totalized by their illness. Often their sexuality will be looked over or forgotten regardless of their desire and need to feel wanted intimately. Sexuality education is not all about sex. "Sexuality education is a life–long process that encompasses many things: the biological, socio–cultural, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of sexuality" (Gerhardt, 2012). Sexuality education is about safety, love, identity, sexual and nonsexual relationships, intimacy, positive adaptive behaviors, increased self–esteem, and pro–social behaviors (Hartman, 2014). Not many parents enjoy the idea of facing the idea of sexual education with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3. Are there any known applications of technology developed to address these issues (e.g. ABA tools or psychoeducational or social skills training programs)? 4. What does the research in this area suggest for future studies and new program development? This is a topic that makes people uncomfortable because of the attached stigmas and taboos. This makes being honest, open, and serious about this topic difficult. "Sexuality is an integral part of the personality of everyone: man, woman, and child. It is a basic need and an aspect of being human that cannot be separated from other aspects of human life. Sexuality if not synonymous with sexual intercourse and it influences thoughts, feelings, actions, and interactions, and thereby our mental and physical health" (World Health Organization). What I like about this definition is that it states that sexuality is a social and adaptive behavior that is part of human development and influences out sexual health. Sexual health is "a state of physical, mental, and social well–being in a relation to sexuality. It requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination, and violence" (World Health Organization). This definition highlights that sexual health is related to our well–being and relating it to having safe sexual experiences. Again, the topic of sexuality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Delhi: Permanent Black Charu Gupta's work, 'Sexuality, Obscenity, Community: Women, Muslims and the Hindu Public in Colonial India', published in 2001, provides an enlightening view on themes including gender, sexuality and religion, all in the context of the British Colonialism and the rise of the Hindu nationalist ideology. In the second chapter, 'Redefining obscenity in Aesthetics and Print', Gupta focuses on the "moral panic" in Colonial India regarding representations of sexuality and ideas of obscenity in print. (p.30) She examines the attempts made by British Colonial and Hindu moralists to utilize printed literature in order to promote a civilised, celibate society, and scrutinizes the ways in which this was used to police and discredit particularly female, but also male sexual and social identities. Gupta then sets this against the apparent obscenity and semi–pornographic nature of popular literature, and argues that this provided a "serious challenge" to the moralist mind–set by resisting and inverting the elite's attempts to control the Hindu public. (p.30) This view provides an insightful understanding of the diversities and consistencies of print culture, and throughout the chapter, Gupta corroborates her points utilizing a broad range of literary and textual evidence, including books, poems, pamphlets, songs and advertisements, which ...
