Project 1 - Kassebølle
Friskole is a 140-year-old “free school” with lots of traditions, which is located in the middle part of
Langeland, fantastically placed in rural surroundings close to forest, beach, and the sea, and still only a few
minutes’ drive from Rudkøbing on Langeland. Langeland is an island in the southern Funen archipelago of
Denmark. It’s about 45 km long and has approximately 12,600 inhabitants.
Kassebølle Friskole has approximately 100 pupils from kindergarten class to 9th grade in the current school
year and has its own afterschool program with approximately 1/3 of the schools’ primary level pupils
attending (grades 0th – 5th). There are 8 teachers in the school and 2 adults in the afterschool program. The
school has since 2003 had the lower secondary school (grades 7th – 9th) and through this the school is
offering the “Primary and Lower-secondary School Leaving Certificate” (folkeskolens afgangsprøve), and
furthermore electives are offered in the lower secondary school which has a more creative character and a
good number of hours per week.
At the school there is ample opportunity for physical activities as it is situated on a large plot with soccer
field, campfire site, nature playground, sandboxes, swings, climbing tower, shelter and much more. There
is also plenty of forest, thicket and lovely old crooked trees, where the children climb and make hide-outs.
Kassebølle Friskole is a creative, academically well-founded and project-oriented “free school” based on
the Grundtvig-Koldian perspective on school and life, and this means that the school does not profess to a
certain ideology or a certain pedagogical principle.
The school attaches great importance to teaching in a homely, present, and safe environment, taking into
account the individual’s personality and development stages, as well as what the child is susceptible to.
Therefore, one of the principles is that there should be no more than 18 pupils in each class. There are also
several classes that are taught together, e.g., grade 4 and grade 5 is taught together as one group.
At Kassebølle Friskole interdisciplinary and fluent transitions between subjects where this feels natural and
encouraging for a holistic understanding of human life is very important. It means to cater for the pupil’s
education and formation the best possible way.
15 August 2020 – 15 August 2021
We prefer a mature volunteer with an interest in children and youth in a school context. We expect the
volunteer to speak either English or German fluently and participate in a supportive way, e.g., in language
teaching. The volunteer must have familiarized him(her-)self with the school’s values and be loyal to these
thought
In our school there will be workdays with practical work where the families attend the school and we have a
joint meal and do practical work a couple of times a year. In addition, during the school year, there will be
educational meetings that you will need to attend as well as traditions around yearly festivals and more
Project 2 . Snojhoj
The Danish folk High Scools are a unique concept and part of the non-formal educational system in
Denmark. The students are primarily young adults who stay at the college during the course. Classes are
based on dialogue and mutual learning between teachers and students. A stay at a folk High School is very
much about intercultural awareness and personal growth.
Snoghøj is situated in the heart of Denmark, on the outskirts of historic Fredericia, Denmarks largest
seaport. The school lies next to the sea in very beautiful natural surroundings. It was founded over 100
years ago and has kept pace with developments in modern education, with information technology playing
an important part.
Snoghøj is a school with the emphasis on art, performance and artistic processes. All students have choir,
performance and reflection processes for emphasizing the development of the self. The school has the
following primary subjects for the students attending the school:
1. Performing Arts Base Camp:
The students learn about drama but also some singing and dancing, they prepare for auditions for the
theatre schools in Denmark. 5-10 months program.
2. Auteur Base: Students learn about choreography, staging, props, directing, and creating own
productions. 5-10 months Program.
2. Cultural and Performance Base Camp:
The students learn culture and language, globalization, performance, artistic processes, improvisation,
intercultural communication and dance/movement. 5-10 months Program.
4. Youth Education Base Camp:
The students learn about Danish, Math, improvisation, drama, performance. The aim is to prepare for
further education and to pass the middle school exam at the end of the year. Among the students we have
new Danish citizens who have often immigrated because of war in their original country. 10 months’
program.
In the summer time Snoghøj is hosting families, grown-ups and elderly for one week each, when we have
different one-week theme courses
August 9th 2020 – 8th August 2021
The volunteer must be mature, open-minded and able to work based on his/her own initiative. We would
prefer a person with a good command of spoken and written English language. Volunteers with a good
knowledge of computer technology and communication such as video, photography, editing and sound will
be preferred, but other intercultural skills will be important assets. Volunteers with an interest in
globalization, art, performing Arts or artistic processes are also welcome
Lodging and boarding: The volunteer will be lodged at the high school where he/she will either have his/her
own room or share a room with another volunteer. There will be shared toilet and bath facilities.
Snoghøj is looking for a volunteer handling the following tasks:
•Documenting student’s activities and everyday life at the school (with a camera)
•Recording the performances and artistic projects
•Editing and graphic work
•Strategic web communication and the opportunity to work with Social Media
The volunteer will be a part of the special fellowship which you find on a folk high school. He/she will
participate in the subjects in the spare time, and through the entire stay the staff will help and support the
volunteer whenever needed. The international environment creates the possibility for the volunteer to be
part of different intercultural activities and we encourage the volunteer to help create an intercultural
environment at the school, bringing students together. This could be done through informal cultural
activities, dancing classes, language classes, etc. The possibilities are many, why we also encourage the
volunteer to be proactive and take initiatives. The volunteer collaborates with staff, teachers and students
on different projects. For example, assisting teachers to make lights on a show or help students to record a
video or take pictures.
The primary task of the volunteer is to document the daily life at the school, editing the footage and images
and to publish it on social media platforms (home page, facebook, instagram). The volunteer will also work
with graphic design such as making posters and flyers for events. There will be plenty of opportunity for
new initiatives and for the volunteer to create his/her own activities. If the volunteer has specific creative
skills he/she will also be very welcome to create practical projects using those skills or assist teaching or
offer workshops in collaboration with a teacher.
As the programme is quite intensive, there are often activities at the High School in the weekends. If the
volunteer works during the weekend, he/she will have time off at another time during the week. The
average working hours per day will be about 6-7 hours. The volunteer will have Danish lessons they can
attend inside of the school together with our international student
Project 3 – Landbrugsskole
It is the only school in Denmark educating young people in the field of organic agriculture. The
approximately 100 students and future farmers are instructed in domestic animal care, cultivation of plants,
technical skills, social studies, economics, production and management.
The school is placed in a very beautiful Danish countryside near water, forest and cultivated fields.
Personally and collectively we highly value ecology, community, development, credibility and quality in
everything we do.
The students can choose to live at the school. This creates the best possible way of forming a close
relationship with each other as well as with the staff. The atmosphere at the school is very informal and the
placement will be great for a volunteer who is not afraid of getting his or her hands dirty from digging up
vegetables or helping out taking care of the animals in the stables.
Kalø Økologisk Landbrugsskole has an international programme called “Global Organic Farmer”. Classes
of this program consists of 50% Danish and 50% foreign students from EU countries. The foreign students
live at the school together with the Danish students, creating an international environment. The staff
consists of: Agronomist, agricultural technologist, kitchen staff, farmer, IT, leadership, consultant, craftsman
etc.
In total there is about 25 people working at Kalø. The staff is used to dealing with intercultural as well as
interlinguistic differences appearing among the young people.
The school is placed 15 minutes walk from the city Rønde (approximately 3000 citizens, various stores)
next to Mols Bjerge National Park. It takes 30 minutes by bus to get to Aarhus (Denmark’s second largest
city) and there are several bus lines going there
August 1st 2020 – July 31st 2021
The recruitment process is open to all, but it would be generally preferred that the volunteer should have a
keen interest in learning about agriculture, organic farming and sustainability. We will highly value a
volunteer who is not afraid of getting his or her hands dirty from digging up vegetables or helping out taking
care of the animals in the stables
The volunteer will live and eat at the school together with the students, and will be expected to integrate
him or herself in the social life as well as the responsibilities at Kalø Økologisk Landbrugskole. The school
has a large selection of student driven social activities and facilities such as choir, fitness room, table
tennis, pool, football etc. The surrounding nature obviously gives you the possibilities of bathing in the
ocean (it might be cold, though), walking or biking in the forest. In Aarhus you can also find plenty of
opportunities for spare time activities.
Landbrugskole they imagine that the volunteers are enrolled in a mixed program along the year according
to the season. All year long farming, including livestock (pigs, sheep, hens, cows), plants, field work,
managing agricultural machinery, preparing vegetables for the farm shop etc. Farming will involve
establishing, maintaining, and harvesting crops as well as animal care-taking, processing or selling the
meat. The school uses their own crops and meat in the organic school kitchen. The school also have a
farm shop with a large variety of vegetables, which the volunteer also will be involved in to preparing.
In general the volunteer will get the opportunity to learn about domestic animal care, animals’ and plants’
annual cycles, greenhouse and outdoor farming, becoming acquainted with organic and sustainable
cultivation. As animals can be hungry at all times a day, the volunteers should be prepared to work outside
normal office hours. Naturally they will be given time off at other times
Project 4 – Ranum
College is situated in the north of Denmark 3 kilometers from the big inlet, Limfjorden. From the school
there is a great view to Vilsted Lake which has good possibilities of canoeing etc.
The school has old beautiful buildings and good possibilities of a varied range of leisure activities. The
students either complete their 9th or 10th grade at the school.
The school is based on the idea that students can suggest and help to develop new subjects and courses
while staying here. There is a range of subjects that is offered almost every year – sailing, diving,
adventure, horseback riding, music, design, dance, media – and other subjects that have been formed
along the way together with students – martial arts, street performance, hell’s kitchen and drama.
The last couple years Ranum Efterskole College has strengthened its international profile in various ways –
offering a full range of IGCSE Cambridge topics to our students, making partnership agreements with
schools all over the world and by travelling with our students three times a year. As a volunteer you will be
part of our international atmosphere and contribute to it
August 1st 2020 – 31st July 2021
The volunteer must be mature, open-minded and able to work based on his/her own initiative. We would
prefer a person with a good command of spoken and written English language, Spanish is a plus too.
Volunteers with a creative skill – dance, music, sports etc. will be preferred, but other cultural skills will be
important assets. We are also looking for volunteers who are native speakers of either English, French or
Spanish. Volunteers with an interest in globalization are also welcome. And you should be prepared to live
in the countryside among a lot of young people
Volunteers will be lodged at the school where he/she will either have his/her own room or share a room
with another volunteer. There will be shared toilet and bath facilities.
The volunteers will be part of the special fellowship that exists on a Danish Efterskole. As the volunteers
are older than the students they will also be positioned as leaders, authorities and consultants which is a
great opportunity to develop pedagogical abilities and the ability to structure and plan events for others. As
all of the students also visit other countries, the most important tasks for the volunteer is to create an
intercultural environment at the school. This could be done through informal cultural activities, dancing
classes, language classes etc. – good ideas are welcome! There are often activities in the evening or in the
weekend. Often it will be expected of the volunteer to participate in or contribute to these activities. If the
volunteer is responsible for the activity he or she will of course have another day off, but the volunteer is
encouraged to participate in as many activities as possible in order to have a rewarding experience of the
stay. The average working hours will be 6 hours a day excluding Danish classes for the volunteer. An
important outcome of the stay is also that students develop their social and personal skills so they are
ready to continue their studies and an independent adult life after their stay
Project 5 – Kirke
Kirke (church) und Sankt Petri School, two closely connected institutions in the heart of Copenhagen, are
the project environment for the volunteer.
The Sankt Petri German Church is the oldest preserved church in the centre of Copenhagen. The Sankt
Petri School, a German-Danish private school, is the oldest German school outside of Germany.
Both Sankt Petri School and Sankt Petri Kirke take initiative to modern church and school life, taking
Danish and German culture in consideration. This makes an exciting and challenging surrounding and
background for the engagement of the volunteer.
September 1st 2020 – June 30th 2021
The project is open to all partners, but will give priority to volunteers that are interested in social issues, in
learning Danish language and at the same time could volunteer 10 months from the end of August to June.
The volunteer has to be a mature youngster and has to be fluent in German. The volunteer needs to be self
confident, creative and responsible. In addition the volunteer needs to have taken the decision to be a
volunteer, having decided to try life in another culture – to try a life, where you think of others, where you
work together in a team. The volunteer has to be rather independent and healthy in body as well as mind.
The volunteer most know and accept that Sankt Petri Kirke and Sankt Petri School are based on Christian
values of Christianity and values man from a holistic point of view. The volunteer will have the opportunity
of being creative together with staff and clients. A volunteer with qualifications and experience with youth
work will be appreciated. The volunteer must be prepared to have flexible working hours
The volunteer will work in the congregation and also in the SFO, which is the afternoon activity center of
Sankt Petri School.
At Sankt Petri Kirke the volunteer will be likely to take special initiatives for young people and families and
will among other things be involved in planning and celebrating services for children. Further, the volunteer
will have some practical work in the community such as events and festivals.
The volunteer will also have the possibility of being involved in making PR-material for the community and
to take initiatives concerning communication as a whole. He/she will also assist in the Church office as part
of the administration.
In the SFO of Sankt Petri School the volunteer will work with children in the age 6 to 10 years. Tasks
include indoor and outdoor activities and the preparation of special events.
In Sankt Petri Kirke the volunteer will be part of teams and will work creatively in building up the
community-life according to the goals of the church. If working hours are sheduled during weekends or
evenings, the volunteer will have a weekday off now and then. Holidays are provided according to the rules
of Eurpean Solidarity Corps
Project 6 – Cafe
Utopia is a high profile café catering for the general public and operated in the same way as other cafés
with the only difference that the people employed there have a mental diagnosis such as schizophrenia,
manic-depression, borderline etc. The concept behind the café is the idea that the best treatment for this
group of people is for them to work in a proper work place, receiving a salary and thus living a life like
everybody else. In that way they can feel needed in society and gain both competences and self-esteem
through meaningful work.
The café is a so called social/economic project, which means, that it is a non profitable project for people
with disabilities.
The café is open daily (except Sunday and Monday) from 10.00 AM to 05.00 PM, Friday to 10.30 PM and
Saturday to 03.00 PM. The café is hosting different cultural activities such as concerts, art exhibitions and it
also hosts minor seminars and private functions.
For the moment we have three fulltime staff members (a manager and two chefs), 20 persons on social
benefit (15-25 hours pr. week), 8 persons in an employment subsidized by the government (25 hours pr.
week). The staff works in different teams: waiting, cooking, cleaning or doing office work.
September 1st 2020 – July 1st 2021
The project is open to everyone; however, volunteers with a high level of English will be preferred. We are
very flexible concerning the profile of the volunteer. He/she may have a background/interest in social work,
catering or culture; however, the most important requirement is that the volunteer has both empathy and
the understanding of dealing with mentally vulnerable people.
Through a stay at Café Utopia the volunteer will get insight in all aspects of operating a café.
Moreover, he/she will get knowledge about people with mental diseases and get a deeper understanding
on how to engage with them. The volunteer will also learn about social/economic organisations and the
benefit they provide to the greater community.
The volunteer will work alongside with the staff in various areas depending on the background, education
and interest of the particular volunteer.
Activities could include:
•Waiting on tables
•Assisting in the kitchen
•General maintenance in the café
•Office work
But there will also be plenty of opportunities to make his/her own activities such as organising different
kinds of events
Project 7 . Borris
Børnehuset in Borris is located in Skjern at the southern end of the Ringkøbing Inlet in West Jutland.
Borris and Skjern is ideal if you would like to experience the countryside of Denmark, as it situated in
natural surroundings with open heath areas and is close to the sea.
Activities such as swimming, windsurfing, fishing, kite flying, walks or boat trips on the Fjord are just some
of the outdoor activities you can do here. There are plenty of possibilities for activities such as walking,
cycling, bird watching or horse riding.
The town also has many sports facilities (such as facilities for handball, football, badminton, tennis, and golf
as well as a aquatic center and a fitness center.
Børnehuset Borris is a normal Danish kindergarten. There are approx. 50 children in the kindergarten and
the age of the kindergarten children are between 3-6 years.
The inside area of the institution is approx. 450 m2 and the outdoor area is approx. 4000 m2
The children are not divided into fixed groups but based on the age of the children they are allocated
different activities.
In the Children’s House we prioritize nature very much, outdoor life plays a big role in their children’s lives.
For example, have we a solid group of children who are out every day from. 9:00 to 14:00.
August 15th 2020 – May 15th 2021
The volunteer must be:
•Able to interact with our children in a good and meaningful way
•Interested in working with children
•Interested in i children’s development
•Openminded
•Able to speak english on a conversational level
Børnehuset believes that the volunteer position at our institution offers the volunteer the opportunity to
learn about Danish kindergartens and the philosophy on which their activities are based. The volunteer will
also study the new trend towards focusing on physical activities as a mean to children’s development.
Being based in a small town, the placement also offers the volunteer the possibility of learning about life
conditions in countryside Denmark. The volunteer is very welcome to make his/her own activities with the
children, and we will do our best to help and support the volunteer so that the ESC-stay with us will meet
his/her expectations.
Examples of activities in the kindergarten:
• Carrying out a wide range of outdoor natur/physical activities
• Spending time in nature, go on walks and doing other activities related to nature
• Doing indoor activities when weather requires it
Project 8 – Kindergarten
Ådum kindergarten is located in Skjern in the Municipality of Ringkøbing/Skjern (the Western part of
Denmark). Ådum kindergarten is located in the rural area and works in close cooperation with the local
community.
Ådum is a kindergarten that works with sport in the pedagogical work sport and arranged physical activities
for the children on daily basis. The kindergarten therefore also takes advances of the nice environment s
surrounding the venue.
August 15th 2020 – May 15th 2021
We prefer a volunteer who has a background with child caring. And that the volunteer has the ability to
interact with the children in a good and meaningful way. The volunteer should be interested in working with
children, and interested in the development of children. The volunteer should be open minded and able to
speak English on a conversational level.
In Ådum kindergarten the volunteer will learn how a kindergarten works in a small Danish community.
Thus, the volunteer will participate in the activities which are planned, but also have the opportunity to plan
other activities for smaller or bigger groups of children.
Ådum kindergarten appreciates traditions and therefore celebrates birthdays, Christmas, Easter etc. Thus,
the volunteer gets a great insight in the Danish traditions celebrated in a kindergarten.
The volunteer will have a supervisor in the kindergarten, but he or she will also be a part of the regular staff
Project 9 – NGO
AFS Interkultur is partner in the world-wide youth exchange organisation, American Field Service,
represented in over 55 countries all over the world. The programmes include:
– 3 or 12 months high school stay abroad for young people between 15-18 years (hosting and sending)
– 6 or 12 months programmes for people above the age of 18 spending their gap year taking one or two
semesters at a college or university abroad
– 1 to 12 months programmes for people above the age of 18 doing voluntary work in Europe, Africa, Asia,
Central America, South America and Australia (hosting and sending)
AFS is a voluntary based, non-profit NGO, independent of political and religious interest. In Denmark AFS
started in 1957 and is today the oldest and largest non-profit exchange organisation in Denmark with 16
staff members, more than 46 local chapters (including Greenland and the Faroe Island) and more than
2.000 members, many of whom work as volunteers for the organisation.
For more than 50 years AFS Interkultur has organised exchanges between almost 50 countries of the
world. We have extensive experience in intercultural learning and a network throughout the country to
ensure proper support to all participants hosted in Denmark. AFS Interkultur has been involved with the
European Solidarity Corps (previous EVS) programme since 1997 both as a sending, hosting and
coordinating organisation
July 13th 2020 – July 12th 2021
The ideal volunteer should have experience with and interest within:
•Intercultural learning and communication
•Marketing and if possible experience with desk-top publishing (Indesign, Adobe programs, etc).
•Social medias – how to communicate to the target group through medias such as facebook, You-tube, etc.
•Ideally experience as a volunteer in a volunteer-driven organization
A good command of English as well as PC literacy (Word, Excel) are essential.
We prefer a creative person who enjoys speaking in front of a crowd and who is motivated to work in a
dynamic intercultural atmosphere. He/she should be prepared to work also in the evenings and weekends.
The volunteer should also be diligent and reliable and willing to work overtime in peak seasons.
It is crucial that the volunteer is motivated to live with a Danish host family and take an active part in the
family life. This might also mean that there will be some commuting between home and office.
Naturally it will be an advantage if the volunteer has experience working in volunteer-drive organisations –
e.g. in a youth organisation such as AFS
The volunteer will be part of the 18+ team in the office which consists of four staff members.
He/she will also be a member of the volunteer committee which is in charge of planning and implementing
3-day orientations for 18+ participants, conducting information meetings for potential applicants, organising
presentations at educational institutions, etc.
He/she will be part od both the key staff members and volunteers to get an in-depth understanding of the
way AFS Interkultur is organising its activities in Denmark.
The main tasks include:
•being the liaison between the AFS-office staff and the AFS-volunteers in charge of 18+ programme work,
helping them recruit new volunteers, preparing orientations for Danish and foreign participants in our 18+
programmes, etc. This will give him/her a thorough knowledge and experience in how to work with
volunteers in a volunteer-driven organization.
•taking part in the weekly evening meetings of the volunteer committee.
•being directly involved in the implementation of meetings and orientations as co-facilitator, including the
four 3-day weekend orientations offered to our 18+ participants. This will enable him/her to get a hands-on
experience in the running of volunteer youth activities. Among other topics the trainings will be about
teambuilding, cultural encounters and conflict resolution.
•being trained as a facilitator of the intercultural learning course offered to 18+ participants giving him/her
an indepth understanding of intercultural learning.
•being trained and work on programmatic and administrative issues linked to AFS youth exchange and
voluntary service programmes such as: public relations, quality assurance, project management,
networking and partnership building, etc. The volunteer’s learning process in the above fields will be
supported by on-the-job training whenever needed, structured and informal discussions as well as regular
planning and sum-up meetings.
The volunteer will have access to and will work with publications and on-line information about different
types of youth and voluntary service programmes and implementation guidelines, which will enable him/her
to gain knowledge about such programmes and the issues at stake when implementing international youth
exchange and voluntary service programme

Voluntariado en dinamarca yes europa

  • 1. Practicalities for all projects Volunteers will be lodged at the school where he/she will either have his/her own room or share a room with another volunteer. There will be shared toilet and bath facilities. Within the project the following is covered: •Flight ticket (90% covered) •Health insurance •Food and accommodation •Allowance/pocket money: 220 euro in total: 180 euro (decided by the department of the EU) + 40 euro from the local AFS department. •Transportation covered: from home to project and from home to language school (if chosen) NB: language school is no longer included in the project, but it is still possible to attend, if you pay it yourself. The cost is approx. 270 euro/module (with approx. 2-3 modules in total) It is also possible to attend a free online language course. Working hours: 30-38 hours/week Project 1 - Kassebølle Friskole is a 140-year-old “free school” with lots of traditions, which is located in the middle part of Langeland, fantastically placed in rural surroundings close to forest, beach, and the sea, and still only a few minutes’ drive from Rudkøbing on Langeland. Langeland is an island in the southern Funen archipelago of Denmark. It’s about 45 km long and has approximately 12,600 inhabitants. Kassebølle Friskole has approximately 100 pupils from kindergarten class to 9th grade in the current school year and has its own afterschool program with approximately 1/3 of the schools’ primary level pupils attending (grades 0th – 5th). There are 8 teachers in the school and 2 adults in the afterschool program. The school has since 2003 had the lower secondary school (grades 7th – 9th) and through this the school is offering the “Primary and Lower-secondary School Leaving Certificate” (folkeskolens afgangsprøve), and furthermore electives are offered in the lower secondary school which has a more creative character and a good number of hours per week.
  • 2. At the school there is ample opportunity for physical activities as it is situated on a large plot with soccer field, campfire site, nature playground, sandboxes, swings, climbing tower, shelter and much more. There is also plenty of forest, thicket and lovely old crooked trees, where the children climb and make hide-outs. Kassebølle Friskole is a creative, academically well-founded and project-oriented “free school” based on the Grundtvig-Koldian perspective on school and life, and this means that the school does not profess to a certain ideology or a certain pedagogical principle. The school attaches great importance to teaching in a homely, present, and safe environment, taking into account the individual’s personality and development stages, as well as what the child is susceptible to. Therefore, one of the principles is that there should be no more than 18 pupils in each class. There are also several classes that are taught together, e.g., grade 4 and grade 5 is taught together as one group. At Kassebølle Friskole interdisciplinary and fluent transitions between subjects where this feels natural and encouraging for a holistic understanding of human life is very important. It means to cater for the pupil’s education and formation the best possible way. 15 August 2020 – 15 August 2021 We prefer a mature volunteer with an interest in children and youth in a school context. We expect the volunteer to speak either English or German fluently and participate in a supportive way, e.g., in language teaching. The volunteer must have familiarized him(her-)self with the school’s values and be loyal to these thought In our school there will be workdays with practical work where the families attend the school and we have a joint meal and do practical work a couple of times a year. In addition, during the school year, there will be educational meetings that you will need to attend as well as traditions around yearly festivals and more Project 2 . Snojhoj The Danish folk High Scools are a unique concept and part of the non-formal educational system in Denmark. The students are primarily young adults who stay at the college during the course. Classes are based on dialogue and mutual learning between teachers and students. A stay at a folk High School is very much about intercultural awareness and personal growth. Snoghøj is situated in the heart of Denmark, on the outskirts of historic Fredericia, Denmarks largest seaport. The school lies next to the sea in very beautiful natural surroundings. It was founded over 100
  • 3. years ago and has kept pace with developments in modern education, with information technology playing an important part. Snoghøj is a school with the emphasis on art, performance and artistic processes. All students have choir, performance and reflection processes for emphasizing the development of the self. The school has the following primary subjects for the students attending the school: 1. Performing Arts Base Camp: The students learn about drama but also some singing and dancing, they prepare for auditions for the theatre schools in Denmark. 5-10 months program. 2. Auteur Base: Students learn about choreography, staging, props, directing, and creating own productions. 5-10 months Program. 2. Cultural and Performance Base Camp: The students learn culture and language, globalization, performance, artistic processes, improvisation, intercultural communication and dance/movement. 5-10 months Program. 4. Youth Education Base Camp: The students learn about Danish, Math, improvisation, drama, performance. The aim is to prepare for further education and to pass the middle school exam at the end of the year. Among the students we have new Danish citizens who have often immigrated because of war in their original country. 10 months’ program. In the summer time Snoghøj is hosting families, grown-ups and elderly for one week each, when we have different one-week theme courses August 9th 2020 – 8th August 2021 The volunteer must be mature, open-minded and able to work based on his/her own initiative. We would prefer a person with a good command of spoken and written English language. Volunteers with a good knowledge of computer technology and communication such as video, photography, editing and sound will be preferred, but other intercultural skills will be important assets. Volunteers with an interest in globalization, art, performing Arts or artistic processes are also welcome Lodging and boarding: The volunteer will be lodged at the high school where he/she will either have his/her own room or share a room with another volunteer. There will be shared toilet and bath facilities. Snoghøj is looking for a volunteer handling the following tasks: •Documenting student’s activities and everyday life at the school (with a camera) •Recording the performances and artistic projects •Editing and graphic work •Strategic web communication and the opportunity to work with Social Media The volunteer will be a part of the special fellowship which you find on a folk high school. He/she will participate in the subjects in the spare time, and through the entire stay the staff will help and support the
  • 4. volunteer whenever needed. The international environment creates the possibility for the volunteer to be part of different intercultural activities and we encourage the volunteer to help create an intercultural environment at the school, bringing students together. This could be done through informal cultural activities, dancing classes, language classes, etc. The possibilities are many, why we also encourage the volunteer to be proactive and take initiatives. The volunteer collaborates with staff, teachers and students on different projects. For example, assisting teachers to make lights on a show or help students to record a video or take pictures. The primary task of the volunteer is to document the daily life at the school, editing the footage and images and to publish it on social media platforms (home page, facebook, instagram). The volunteer will also work with graphic design such as making posters and flyers for events. There will be plenty of opportunity for new initiatives and for the volunteer to create his/her own activities. If the volunteer has specific creative skills he/she will also be very welcome to create practical projects using those skills or assist teaching or offer workshops in collaboration with a teacher. As the programme is quite intensive, there are often activities at the High School in the weekends. If the volunteer works during the weekend, he/she will have time off at another time during the week. The average working hours per day will be about 6-7 hours. The volunteer will have Danish lessons they can attend inside of the school together with our international student Project 3 – Landbrugsskole It is the only school in Denmark educating young people in the field of organic agriculture. The approximately 100 students and future farmers are instructed in domestic animal care, cultivation of plants, technical skills, social studies, economics, production and management. The school is placed in a very beautiful Danish countryside near water, forest and cultivated fields. Personally and collectively we highly value ecology, community, development, credibility and quality in everything we do. The students can choose to live at the school. This creates the best possible way of forming a close relationship with each other as well as with the staff. The atmosphere at the school is very informal and the placement will be great for a volunteer who is not afraid of getting his or her hands dirty from digging up vegetables or helping out taking care of the animals in the stables. Kalø Økologisk Landbrugsskole has an international programme called “Global Organic Farmer”. Classes of this program consists of 50% Danish and 50% foreign students from EU countries. The foreign students live at the school together with the Danish students, creating an international environment. The staff consists of: Agronomist, agricultural technologist, kitchen staff, farmer, IT, leadership, consultant, craftsman etc. In total there is about 25 people working at Kalø. The staff is used to dealing with intercultural as well as
  • 5. interlinguistic differences appearing among the young people. The school is placed 15 minutes walk from the city Rønde (approximately 3000 citizens, various stores) next to Mols Bjerge National Park. It takes 30 minutes by bus to get to Aarhus (Denmark’s second largest city) and there are several bus lines going there August 1st 2020 – July 31st 2021 The recruitment process is open to all, but it would be generally preferred that the volunteer should have a keen interest in learning about agriculture, organic farming and sustainability. We will highly value a volunteer who is not afraid of getting his or her hands dirty from digging up vegetables or helping out taking care of the animals in the stables The volunteer will live and eat at the school together with the students, and will be expected to integrate him or herself in the social life as well as the responsibilities at Kalø Økologisk Landbrugskole. The school has a large selection of student driven social activities and facilities such as choir, fitness room, table tennis, pool, football etc. The surrounding nature obviously gives you the possibilities of bathing in the ocean (it might be cold, though), walking or biking in the forest. In Aarhus you can also find plenty of opportunities for spare time activities. Landbrugskole they imagine that the volunteers are enrolled in a mixed program along the year according to the season. All year long farming, including livestock (pigs, sheep, hens, cows), plants, field work, managing agricultural machinery, preparing vegetables for the farm shop etc. Farming will involve establishing, maintaining, and harvesting crops as well as animal care-taking, processing or selling the meat. The school uses their own crops and meat in the organic school kitchen. The school also have a farm shop with a large variety of vegetables, which the volunteer also will be involved in to preparing. In general the volunteer will get the opportunity to learn about domestic animal care, animals’ and plants’ annual cycles, greenhouse and outdoor farming, becoming acquainted with organic and sustainable cultivation. As animals can be hungry at all times a day, the volunteers should be prepared to work outside normal office hours. Naturally they will be given time off at other times Project 4 – Ranum College is situated in the north of Denmark 3 kilometers from the big inlet, Limfjorden. From the school there is a great view to Vilsted Lake which has good possibilities of canoeing etc. The school has old beautiful buildings and good possibilities of a varied range of leisure activities. The students either complete their 9th or 10th grade at the school. The school is based on the idea that students can suggest and help to develop new subjects and courses while staying here. There is a range of subjects that is offered almost every year – sailing, diving, adventure, horseback riding, music, design, dance, media – and other subjects that have been formed along the way together with students – martial arts, street performance, hell’s kitchen and drama.
  • 6. The last couple years Ranum Efterskole College has strengthened its international profile in various ways – offering a full range of IGCSE Cambridge topics to our students, making partnership agreements with schools all over the world and by travelling with our students three times a year. As a volunteer you will be part of our international atmosphere and contribute to it August 1st 2020 – 31st July 2021 The volunteer must be mature, open-minded and able to work based on his/her own initiative. We would prefer a person with a good command of spoken and written English language, Spanish is a plus too. Volunteers with a creative skill – dance, music, sports etc. will be preferred, but other cultural skills will be important assets. As the volunteers are older than the students they will also be positioned as leaders, authorities and consultants which is a great opportunity to develop pedagogical abilities and the ability to structure and plan events for others. As all of the students also visit other countries, the most important tasks for the volunteer is to create an intercultural environment at the school. This could be done through informal cultural activities, dancing classes, language classes etc. – good ideas are welcome! There are often activities in the evening or in the weekend. Often it will be expected of the volunteer to participate in or contribute to these activities. If the volunteer is responsible for the activity he or she will of course have another day off, but the volunteer is encouraged to participate in as many activities as possible in order to have a rewarding experience of the stay. The average working hours will be 6 hours a day excluding Danish classes for the volunteer. An important outcome of the stay is also that students develop their social and personal skills so they are ready to continue their studies and an independent adult life after their stay Project 5 – Kirke Kirke (church) und Sankt Petri School, two closely connected institutions in the heart of Copenhagen, are the project environment for the volunteer. The Sankt Petri German Church is the oldest preserved church in the centre of Copenhagen. The Sankt Petri School, a German-Danish private school, is the oldest German school outside of Germany. Both Sankt Petri School and Sankt Petri Kirke take initiative to modern church and school life, taking Danish and German culture in consideration.
