Question 6
1. Question 6:
What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
2. Well‐established film produc on companies
will shoot their film in 4K. This results in a
be er cinema c experience for film con‐
Research
Large, well‐established conglomerate in‐
s tu ons may use 3D camera, to draw in
an audience that enjoy a unique cinema‐
experience.
Professional film companies will o en use
Adobe Premiere, Final Cut X, and Adobe
A er Effects in the edi ng of their film.
These professional film companies will almost always exhibit
their films on a wide variety of digital streaming sites
through Web 2.0 (the web as we know it today). Some of
these include On Demand sites (such as Demand 5, 4OD, BBC
iPlayer, & ITV Player), Ne lix, Blinkbox Films, and YouTube.
Films are also exhibited on Television (Film4).
3. To film my film‐opening I used my Nikon D3100 with a
standard 18‐55mm lens which I have owned for about
2 years now. It has 1080p video recording and a really
clear picture. It does par cularly well in capturing grey,
dim shots, which was exactly what I was a er. Overall I
was pleased with this camera. The only issue was that I
couldn’t plug in an external microphone to it, so this
meant this meat I had to use the camera’s own micro‐
phone which isn’t quite as good as a RODE Mic.
For the tripod, I used a Velbon VEF‐3, which has a 3 way
pan and lt head and a maximum height of 5.35' which
was handy when shoo ng the s lls with the conversa‐
on in the alleyway and with the entry‐break with the
robbers. This tripod is also very lightweight considering
it's aluminium metal which was be useful when walking
to different loca ons for filming. The pan on the tripod
was really smooth as well, which I used in some of the
running shots of the main character, Tim (Faegan).
I used this shoulder rig stabiliser which can
also be interchangeable into a handheld sta‐
biliser for the shots when Faegan (Tim) is run‐
ning, in order to keep the image s ll and to
decrease the amount of 'shake' as possible. I
also used it for the confronta on, when the
thug (and his henchman) surround Tim and
put him against the wall, as it helped to track
the shot around them.
So ini ally, I was going to use a 64GB SD card, but I never
got round to buying one (partly because of their ex‐
pense). And so I just used an 8GB card because I already
owned it and had used it before in the camera. However,
because of the small amount of storage on the card, it
meant that I had to move a lot of the cards onto my com‐
puter and wipe the card clean before I was able to record
any footage — which took some me.
It was really easy to transfer data from an SD card to the
computer quickly and efficiently though, which was help‐
ful when needing to move onto edi ng the footage as
soon as I could.
I used a PC computer like this to upload
all of my footage on, and then I used
the edi ng so ware (see next page) on
the computer to edit my files.
I have grown up with computers so I’ve
never found it too much of a challenge
to use either a PC or and Apple Mac,
but I found the layout of a PC really
helpful in the edi ng stage of produc‐
on.
Hardware
4. Software
I used/am using Blogger to upload all of
my work for Pre‐Produc on, Produc‐
on, and Post‐Produc on so that it is all
in one place. I’ve used labels to order
my work so that it’s easily accessible by
the teacher/examiner.
I used Word and PowerPoint to complete
various aspects of my Pre‐Produc on work
in the lead up to the shoot of my film.
I used Outlook communicate with the
teacher and my peers in order to get feed‐
back and informa on about the work re‐
quired of me. I also used it to email the rec‐
ord companies to ask if I could use their
tracks for my film.
I used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit all
of my shots together in order to pro‐
duce my film‐opening. On this so ‐
ware I used some simple edi ng tech‐
niques such as ‘Colour Correc on’ to
dim the light of the film in order to
set the atmosphere and feeling. For
example, using ‘RGB Curves’ on sepa‐
rate shots to adjust the ligh ng and
bring out some colours more than
others.
I have posted both my Preliminary Task
and my Film‐opening on YouTube and I
have then embedded them from there
to my blog.
