Autumn has arrived and the air is definitely
cooler and pleasant! However, things were hotting
up leading to this new season.
The e-Club of South Africa chartered on 29
January with 17 transferring Rotarians and 14
newly appointed ones.
DG Anneas Balt and DGE Annie Steijn
attended the ceremony. This was our first
achievement.
Since then we received our Charter; we managed
to complete the Rotary International President
Ron Burton’s Citation which only about 15% of
the district’s clubs achieve and we have increased
membership.
When you register on Clubrunner or the Rotary
International website - www.rotary.org, you may
need the club number and this is 85613. Once you
register on the website, you will have access to My
Rotary and there is a huge amount of
information about the Rotary Brand Centre; Polio;
Vocational site; Education and Literacy; Water
and Sanitation and Poverty Alleviation.
Visit ProjectLink and see what projects other
countries are undertaking.
Rotary has recognized certain areas for every
calendar month and they are:
July New Rotary Officers begin their
year of service
August Membership and Extension
month
September New Generations month
October Vocational Service month
November Rotary Foundation month
December Family month
January Rotary Awareness month
February World Understanding month
March Literacy month
April Magazine month
May Various district submissions
June Rotary Fellowship month
Our club needs to think of what we want to
achieve during these months going forward.
Founder of Rotary
International, Paul
Harris (left), would
have celebrated his
birthday on 19 April.
RI was chartered on
23 February 1905
and today we
have 1,22m members in 200 countries
spanning 34,000 clubs in 536 districts.

PDG Mark Doyle received one of the highest Rotary
International recognitions bestowed to Rotarians
who have shown and displayed exemplary service.
Mark is seen holding the Service Above Self pin
and plaque which was presented to him by DG
Anneas Balt (left) and IPDG Martin Forsyth-
Thompson (centre) at the annual Council of
Southern Africa conference on 29 March at the
Kopanong Hotel and Conference Centre in Benoni
We congratulate e-Club member Mark.

Whenever we need to pay amounts to Rotary
International, Rotarians do not use the Reserve
Banks’ US$ exchange rate.
Every month Rotary International indicates their
rate and this is what we use to pay our dues; The
Rotarian Magazine; The Rotary Foundation and any
other donations we make to Rotary such as Polio;
Benefactor; Major Donor etc.
For April, the exchange rate is R 10,50/US$
Soon it will be winter
Yes, we do have snow in some
parts of South Africa and in
three months time, winter will
arrive.
Let’s Wrap ‘Em Up with a
scarf, beanie and a pair of
gloves this winter.
Thousands of youngsters go
cold every winter but we can
make a difference.
Soon there will be an
announcement of the ‘winter
set’ being available. Start
thinking of recipients and also
how we will obtain the
funding to support this
project.
Watch this space… more news
on this later.
The timing was perfect! Rtn
Marian Bunch RC Atlanta) was in
South Africa to attend the 2nd
annual Rotary Family Health Days
event (2-4 April) and RFFA’s
Director Sue - from our club -
joined Marion to celebrate the
presentation of a Paul Harris
Fellowship to Health Minister, Dr
Aaron Motsoaledi.
Both Marion and Sue have worked
diligently to ensure the success of
this outstanding programme.
Club President Elect, Annemarie
Mostert also worked
tirelessly with the media
and ensuring that the
launch event in Uitenhage
(2 April) was a suc-
cess….and indeed it was!
So it was fortuitous that the
PHF pin was placed on Dr
Aaron by DG Anneas Balt
on 31 March in Pretoria.
The PHF event was hosted
by the RC Pretoria West.
Remember to………..
 Introduce a new member before June 2014.
 Meet on line on Wednesday nights at 19:00.
 Think of unusual projects that the club can consider.
 Attend the annual District Conference to be held at The
Ranch near Polokwane: 13-16 June. It is a long weekend
folks and for R 3990 (sharing) you will experience Rotary
at its best. We have local, international and Rotary
presenters and the evening entertainment programmes
are outstanding. You will also see the lions being fed!
* You can play golf and just enjoy the fellowship.
* All you pay for is what you sign for!
Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi is honoured
Congratulations to the club for hosting a RFHDs site which was
managed by PDG Mark Doyle and 20 Canadians (many of them in
the medical field) and the NGOs.
1494 members were attended to and the day was a huge success.
Pictures will be in the next newsletter.
President Kanthan Pillay, President Elect Annemarie Mostert, Rtn
Sue Paget and a few others were involved in many different ways
but now they can all take a very well-earned break.
Well done e-Club team.
The Rotary Family Health Days programme was a great success

prosperity and purpose. Covenant Garden Estate is a collaborative
effort of the Pat Francis
Trust, Chief Mathibe and
many corporate sponsors

children and remove the
stigmatization associated
with “orphans” and “people
at risk” in South Africa. We
will provide care in a nurturing family environment that will
support their emotional, social and educational needs,” said Dr. Pat Francis, who initiated the project.

The leading partners of the project include the Mathibe Tribe that donated
the 10 hectares of land for the
development, Sešego Cares as the main strategic partner
that facilitated the mobilisation of experts, technical sup-
port, donors and corporate sponsors. The Rotary Clubs of
Northcliff and the E-Club of Southern Africa 9400 were also
instrumental in arranging the donation of the kitchen (by
Parmalat) and appliances (Teljoy), soccer field (Orlando
Pirates Football Club) as well as all the skills of the
professionals required over the past 18 months.
A delegation of volunteers and medical mission from Pat
Francis Ministries in Canada and Detroit arrived in South
Africa to participate in the week-long Rotary Family Health

Mark Doyle, Rhett Gardener, Cornelia Raath-Lotter, Tara Ison (who managed the event as well) and
Charlotte Khoza from our E-Club who attended the launch event with Annemarie Mostert. Thank you
to Liana van der Walt who welcomed the international delegation at the airport and for Tara Ison who

Cloud Chatter April 2014

  • 1. Autumn has arrived and the air is definitely cooler and pleasant! However, things were hotting up leading to this new season. The e-Club of South Africa chartered on 29 January with 17 transferring Rotarians and 14 newly appointed ones. DG Anneas Balt and DGE Annie Steijn attended the ceremony. This was our first achievement. Since then we received our Charter; we managed to complete the Rotary International President Ron Burton’s Citation which only about 15% of the district’s clubs achieve and we have increased membership. When you register on Clubrunner or the Rotary International website - www.rotary.org, you may need the club number and this is 85613. Once you register on the website, you will have access to My Rotary and there is a huge amount of information about the Rotary Brand Centre; Polio; Vocational site; Education and Literacy; Water and Sanitation and Poverty Alleviation. Visit ProjectLink and see what projects other countries are undertaking. Rotary has recognized certain areas for every calendar month and they are: July New Rotary Officers begin their year of service August Membership and Extension month September New Generations month October Vocational Service month November Rotary Foundation month December Family month January Rotary Awareness month February World Understanding month March Literacy month April Magazine month May Various district submissions June Rotary Fellowship month Our club needs to think of what we want to achieve during these months going forward. Founder of Rotary International, Paul Harris (left), would have celebrated his birthday on 19 April. RI was chartered on 23 February 1905 and today we have 1,22m members in 200 countries spanning 34,000 clubs in 536 districts. PDG Mark Doyle received one of the highest Rotary International recognitions bestowed to Rotarians who have shown and displayed exemplary service. Mark is seen holding the Service Above Self pin and plaque which was presented to him by DG Anneas Balt (left) and IPDG Martin Forsyth- Thompson (centre) at the annual Council of Southern Africa conference on 29 March at the Kopanong Hotel and Conference Centre in Benoni We congratulate e-Club member Mark. Rotary International website Service Above Self Award Page 2 E-Club Newsletter Whenever we need to pay amounts to Rotary International, Rotarians do not use the Reserve Banks’ US$ exchange rate. Every month Rotary International indicates their rate and this is what we use to pay our dues; The Rotarian Magazine; The Rotary Foundation and any other donations we make to Rotary such as Polio; Benefactor; Major Donor etc. For April, the exchange rate is R 10,50/US$ Soon it will be winter Yes, we do have snow in some parts of South Africa and in three months time, winter will arrive. Let’s Wrap ‘Em Up with a scarf, beanie and a pair of gloves this winter. Thousands of youngsters go cold every winter but we can make a difference. Soon there will be an announcement of the ‘winter set’ being available. Start thinking of recipients and also how we will obtain the funding to support this project. Watch this space… more news on this later.
  • 3. The timing was perfect! Rtn Marian Bunch RC Atlanta) was in South Africa to attend the 2nd annual Rotary Family Health Days event (2-4 April) and RFFA’s Director Sue - from our club - joined Marion to celebrate the presentation of a Paul Harris Fellowship to Health Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi. Both Marion and Sue have worked diligently to ensure the success of this outstanding programme. Club President Elect, Annemarie Mostert also worked tirelessly with the media and ensuring that the launch event in Uitenhage (2 April) was a suc- cess….and indeed it was! So it was fortuitous that the PHF pin was placed on Dr Aaron by DG Anneas Balt on 31 March in Pretoria. The PHF event was hosted by the RC Pretoria West. Remember to………..  Introduce a new member before June 2014.  Meet on line on Wednesday nights at 19:00.  Think of unusual projects that the club can consider.  Attend the annual District Conference to be held at The Ranch near Polokwane: 13-16 June. It is a long weekend folks and for R 3990 (sharing) you will experience Rotary at its best. We have local, international and Rotary presenters and the evening entertainment programmes are outstanding. You will also see the lions being fed! * You can play golf and just enjoy the fellowship. * All you pay for is what you sign for! Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi is honoured Congratulations to the club for hosting a RFHDs site which was managed by PDG Mark Doyle and 20 Canadians (many of them in the medical field) and the NGOs. 1494 members were attended to and the day was a huge success. Pictures will be in the next newsletter. President Kanthan Pillay, President Elect Annemarie Mostert, Rtn Sue Paget and a few others were involved in many different ways but now they can all take a very well-earned break. Well done e-Club team. The Rotary Family Health Days programme was a great success Issue 1 Page 3 Left to right: Rtn Marion Bunch, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, Rtn Sue Paget & President Johan Snyman (Rotary Club of Pretoria
