4. How do we ADD or SUBTRACT complex
numbers?
β’Combine like terms!!
(β2 β 3π) + (6 β 4π)
= 4 β 7π
β2 β 3π β 6 β 4π
= β2 β 3π + β6 + 4π
Subtraction becomes the
opposite:
= β8 + π
6. How do we multiply complex numbers?
β’ We use the box method
β’ And remember that π2
= β1
Example: 4 + 2π (3 β 2π)
