How to Go Paleo The Easy Way
Let me start out by saying there are Paleo fanatics and
Paleo snobs that will tell you that following the Paleo
diet is an exact science that needs to be followed
precisely.
Unfortunately none of those so called experts agree
100% on exactly how to do that.
In the meantime, many average people that know little
or nothing of the Paleolithic period, are doing just fine
with the Paleo diet. Losing excess body fat, ending
chronic health problems, and feeling great.
What is the Paleo Diet ?
To put it simply, the Paleo diet is a diet based on the eating habits of our
“caveman” ancestors. This is the time before the agricultural revolution
and farming, when mankind hunted and gathered his food.
Before you start any diet or fitness program, it is a good idea to
discuss it with your physician.
Why should I go Paleo ?
There are two main benefits of the Paleo diet
1. Loss of excess body fat or weight loss
2. Improved health
How Paleo should I Go?
This depends on your reasons for going Paleo.
If you are interested in Paleo to lose body fat and to be healthier in
general, you can probably expect results just by following Paleo
about 80% of the time. In other words, you can cheat or eat non
Paleo foods on occasion and still get the results you are looking for.
If you are interested in Paleo to improve a condition like allergies,
diabetes or other serious conditions, you should try for 100%
Paleo in a Nutshell (so to speak)
If you are following the Paleo diet, you will be doing the following ;
Consuming no grains
Consuming no packaged foods
Consuming very little dairy
Consuming less sugar
These are the things that make us fatter, and cause or perpetuate
chronic autoimmune diseases and conditions.
Oh My God, So What Do I Eat ?
Fortunately, you get to eat very well on the Paleo diet. You can eat
most meats including steaks, chicken, bacon, eggs, ribs, pork as well
as fish and shellfish such as salmon, lobster shrimp etc.
You also get to eat most of the common vegetables including
broccoli, sweet potatoes, peppers, eggplant and many more.
You can also enjoy apples, peaches, blueberries, mangos,grapes,and
a host of other fruits as well as nuts like cashews and seeds like
pumpkin seeds.
Once you get started you will start to create delicious meals and even
learn to make things like muffins and cakes, without grain flours.
So How Do I Start ?
Now many “experts” have their own system. But they all cant be
different and completely correct for every person. So lets look at a
simple way to “go Paleo” and start getting the benefits.
You can start by eliminating grains, and everything in a package. For
breakfast avoid cereals, muffins, donuts etc. Instead try bacon and
eggs. (That’s not so bad is it?)
The same applies for lunch and dinner. No grains, pastas, breads etc.
But you can enjoy a hamburger, vegetables and a salad. For dinner
you can choose steak, pork chops, shrimp…. with two or three
vegetables, a salad and some fruit for dessert.
Believe me you can eat very well like this. You can even eat more
meals than you do now!
Guess What, You Went Paleo
Its true. Just by giving up grains, packaged foods (loaded with
preservatives and fillers), and by watching your sugar, coffee and
alcohol intake, you have gone Paleo. At least enough to start seeing
and feeling results.
Most modern diets and research agree, that by doing these
things, you will begin to lose excess weight, have more energy, and
feel great.
Many people have gone Paleo in this manner and it has worked fine
for them. But sooner or later you will have to improve on this…
You Will Need a Routine
The Paleo diet is simple enough to begin and can be just as simple to
stay with. If someone does fail at the diet however, it is usually due to
one thing.
You cant eat bacon and eggs for breakfast every day.
Well you could, but variety is the spice of life, as they say. You will
begin to need a complete Paleo food list, recipes and meal plans. It
does require a little planning to make it work. Even if you are only
going to follow it about 80% of the time. You are going to want
different meals, breakfasts, dinners and snacks.
