2. INTRODUCTION
This is my first experience implementing a CLIL session,
but I am sure it won’t be the last one.
Our Management Team is getting more and more involved
into this change of philosophy, so English teachers hope it
will be a realty shortly
3. LESSON PLAN
Title of the Lesson: Measures
Level and group:
6th Primary
ICT
resources: www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks3/maths
Background Information: Their tutor taught them
this topic in the previous year, so they are
familiarize to the vocabulary in Catalan and the
content is not new for them. But I want to introduce
them also to the Speed concept, and that's a new
content.
4. Learning objectives:
•To review metric units of length and to know them in English.
•To reflect about suitable units to measure everyday objects or places.
•Review Scales and get introduced to new vocabulary in English as
“speedometer”
•Review converting units, for area and volume, and comparatives in
English when talking about “larger, smaller”
•Practice the concept and the vocabulary of “multiple and divide”
•Introduce them to the formulas :in this case “Speed, distance and
time”
5. • Competencies involved: Mathematics,
communicative, autonomy, learn to learn
• Assessment: Teacher observe the whole
process of learning: the previous knowledge, the
construction of new concepts and English
structures and vocabulary, the team work, the
decisions and the planning of their poster, power
point or prezi and finally the presentation and
defense of their final job.
6. • Description
Teacher print the information of the website, divided into 5
topics: choosing appropriate units, reading scales,
converting units, converting units for area and volume,
and speed, distance and time. Students are grouped into
5 teams. Teacher give them the information and help to
understand the concepts and the vocabulary in English.
Students have to prepare a lesson about the topic to
present to the rest of the class, with the help of a poster,
a power point or a prezi. Pupils know already these
tools.
7. • Interaction
Teacher - Students
Students – Students
• Skills: Listening, Writing, Speaking, Reading and
Interacting
9. FINAL REFLEXION
Firstly, I should stress that children were astonished
when I proposed them to do a CLIL activity: it was
their first time and I have noticed different feelings:
surprise, excitement, some fear...
Positive points: they start working very quickly, with
clear ideas, programming homework of this activity by
Skipe, meeting during the weekend or at playground
time.
10. And they defined their final defense with resources as
Prezi, using our PDI or with a Power Point, even when I
explained that just a manual poster will be enough.
Weak points: they are not used to work in groups using
English as a communication language, so they talk in
Spanish again and again
Groups: We had some problems to organize the
groups, because of their relationships.
11. Some pictures
I have taken some photos to illustrate the
development of the collaborative task.
This was the first session: in groups of 5 pupils, they
read the information, understand and design their
defense or their lesson to teach the rest of the
classmates next week
