How to Analyze an Expository Essay
1. The Digital Age Essay
The Digital Age
The digital age is staring us in the face from the near future. We already see countless instances of
digital technology emerging more and more in our every day lives. Cell phones are equipped with
voice recognition software, and are able to take photographs and send them wirelessly across the
globe, almost instantaneously. When information is captured and transmitted into a digital format,
possibilities for that data become endless. Soon we will no longer be inconvenienced with reality;
all of our sensory shopping experiences will be converted to digital information and will be fed to
us through our computers. Digital information is in a much more malleable format. It can easily be
duplicated, changed, or processed...show more content...
The information created will be able to be shared by anyone with a computer. The power base that
the digital age relies on for existence, is technology. The rapid developing technology is absolutely
necessary for the digital age to exist. Without super powerful microchips, and high bandwidth
transfer wires, the digital age would be a figment of our imagination. Digital technology is computer
based, so the millions of calculations per second, and ability to transfer large amounts of data over
long distances are absolutely necessary. Without computers, the data might be collected; but there
would be nothing to process and transfer the information.
When new technology is invented, it is sometimes distributed to a society that might not be ready
for it. Few corporations consider this and are only interested in spreading their product to the
consumer as soon as possible. New technology is often flawed and taken advantage of by
individuals who know how to manipulate it. This is a considerably large problem when dealing with
digital technology. Digital information is not a three dimension tangible object. So it is easily
tampered with and destroyed without people noticing. When the damage is finally noticed, the party
responsible is usually untraceable and in a completely different area of the world to begin with.
The potential value of this new technology seems almost

2. THE SEVEN ARMY VALUES Essay
In the United States Army we are taught to live by the Seven Army Values. They are broken
down to us in the acronym 'LDRSHIP' which is short for Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service,
Honor, Integrity and Personal Courage. We are all taught these 7 Army values repeatedly from
day one in the United States Army. First we memorize these values. Then we are trained to live
by them. All of these 7 values coincide with each other, and play an important roll in our Army
lives. These 7 Army Values also play well into life outside the Army in our personal life. People
sometimes do not realize the importance these values have on the way we are viewed by the people
who look up to the men and woman who are privileged enough to represent the...show more content...
Also improving their performance is a necessity to make a more stable unit. Respect is to "Treat
people as they should be treated." Every soldier is responsible for treating other people with
dignity and respect. As Soldiers we pledge to treat others with respect and dignity while not
expecting anything in return. Respect allows us to appreciate what our Army leaders and Friends
do for us. Respect is to have trust that people will fulfill their duties and accomplish what is
expected of them. Respecting ones self is an important factor of the Army value of respect. We, the
United States Army are one team and we each have something to contribute. What is respect?
Respect has numerous forms. It can be self–awareness, character, understanding, trust, honesty, and a
positive attitude. Respect must be earned. If someone does not respect himself or herself then
they are not able to respect others. To gain respect you must treat others the way you would want
to be treated, as you have heard many times before. If a unit lacks respect it cannot have
teamwork and sympathy for the well being of others. It creates devotion to the success of the
team. Respect goes both ways up and down the chain of command. A leader must respect his or her
soldiers as their soldiers must appreciate the sacrifices and skills their superiors and vice versa. by
respecting the people around you with effort, and in time soldiers come to respect each other.

4. Introduction to Soccer Essay
Soccer is a popular sport played all over the world. Even though it has only been popular in the
United States for the past 30 years, soccer has been a long time favorite most everywhere else.
The sport dates back to the Egyptians, who played games involving the kicking of a ball. Now, the
sport has grown to a global pastime, including men's and women's teams, and the World Cup (which
is played every four years). Soccer originated with kicking games played by people in ancient
civilizations. The modern version came about in the early nineteenth century, in England. It started
as a game involving kicking and handing, but later this branched off into two separate sports: rugby
and football (which is what the English call soccer). Around...show more content...
In addition to the field itself, all that is needed for a game is two goals (eight feet high and eight
yards apart) and a ball. Each player wears hard plastic or padded shingaurd, covered by long
socks, for protection during play. Cleats are also worn for traction on the field. A goalie may also
wear a special padded shirt, and gloves to protect his or her hands. A standard field, as regulated
by the Federation Internationale de Football Association (or FIFA), has a length between 100 and
130 yards, and a width of between 50 and 100 yards. The rules of play for soccer have deliberately
been kept simple. The referee makes most of the decisions, and attempts to encourage fair play.
The game starts off with a kick off, and the teams are allowed to pass, dribble, juggle, head, kick,
and shoot the ball to place it down the field, and (hopefully, or eventually) into their opponent's
goal. If the ball is kicked off the field over the length of the field, the other team is given a throw–in,
where the ball is thrown over the player's head, and back onto the field. If the ball is kicked over the
goal, or across the width of the field, either a corner kick results (by the offensive team, where the
ball is placed on the corner of the field and kicked into play) or the defensive team is awarded a goal
kick, where the ball is placed on the corner of the goal box, and kicked back into play. If a goal is
scored, the ball is taken back to the center of

5. You ever hear someone say they have swagger? A lot of times people's swagger is determined
from their style. For example, everyone has a specific style of fashion. If you put on some cargo
shorts with a tank top and slides you're probably not going to a job interview. Just like anything else,
writing has different expressions. Writing is a form of communication; the person is writing to
inform, persuade, describe, or tell a story. There are four main types of writing styles, expository,
persuasive, descriptive, and narrative. We then choose what we want to read according to our
interest in each category.
Let's look at expository writing. Expository writing is usually developed around one topic and is

Its name might as well give it away. Think of a closing argument in a court case being presented
to a jury. Each party's counsel is presenting a persuasive writing in the form of a speech. In this
type of writing the writer uses choice words in a cohesive manner in order to "sway" or persuade
the reader. You will most commonly come across this type of writing in advertisement. With that
being said, persuasive writing is all around us. This type of communication may consist of the
writer's opinions, but the best form also includes facts to back up his or her statements. With
attempts to get consumers to purchase specific products, we see persuasive writings all around us in
today's world.
"The battlefield had a cold malevolent air to it, the wind howling past you in every which way, as if
trying to express its own confusion at the sudden seize–fire. I, myself, was confused. One minute the
bullets were raining holy hell down on us in a never–ending bombardment, and the next, nothing."
An anonymous soldier gives detailed picture of a battlefield scene. Descriptive writing, often
used to portray a vivid, detailed experience, person, place, or thing, is third of the writing styles.
This style of writing requires strong observation skills to convey the writer's point of view. In
personal stories, you tend to see a lot of descriptive writing because it's the writer's story. He or she

6. Essay on Writing Experience
My Writing Experiences My experiences in writing have been minimal. I have only learned the
basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things
like that. Since I have been taking college English, I can tell my writing has improved a lot. In the
future, I hope to be able to improve tremendously at writing essays, paragraphs, research papers,
documents, and stories so that I have very little to no errors with drafting and final products. I
predict I will be a well rounded writer when I graduate from college. Writing in the past started in

goals are to write papers and not have to reassure myself that maybe I need to do more research or
have more data or even have to rethink my whole topic over. I would love to have the knowledge
to be a tutor someday and teach other people how to properly write papers, paragraphs, essays,
and maybe even books. To have excellent skills in writing will definitely be a great advantage in
my nursing profession. In nursing, I will have to do lots of charting on my patients. I will have to
do health presentations on various subjects such as exercising, how our society eats, and sex
education if I want to be a course instructor. Researching information on all of those topics I will
have to make sure I do an excellent job on and collect accurate information and statistics so that I
can compare to other sources. Dictating to the doctor means that I will need to write properly so
that he understands what I am saying. Other nurses will have to be able to understand what I am

7. A Boring Class Essay example
The warm sunshine that was streaming through the classroom window was doing nothing to help
my concentration as I sat in class trying to pay attention. The teacher's monotone voice droning on
about some dead men who fought in a battle hundreds of years ago was slowly putting me to
sleep. I was taking notes as best I could when suddenly I would realize that my eyes were closed! I
opened them quickly and looked at my notebook. The last line I had written on the page ended in
nonsensical words before it became a straight line that ran off the page. I tried to focus on what the
teacher was currently saying only to realize that she had moved on to another topic. Maybe this
topic would keep me awake. A few minutes later, I was dozing...show more content...
I wish I knew why someone thought we needed to learn about all of these dead people. It just didn't
seem relevant at all. Suddenly, there was a hush in the room. The teacher had asked someone a
question! I tried to seem casual as I glanced up to see if I was the unlucky person who had been
called upon. My heart jumped and then I realized that the teacher was looking at the person to my
right, waiting expectantly for an answer. I stared at the girl also, as if I was truly interested in
whatever ramblings might come out of her mouth about the dead general and his battle. I felt my
face grow warm with a slight blush as I became embarrassed for her and her inability to answer the
question. She must have been paying as much attention to the lecture as I had been. Finally, she was
able to formulate a less than mediocre answer that satisfied the monotone voice at the front of the
room and the lecture resumed. Another glance back at the girl and I saw the cell phone palmed in
her left hand down by her side. She had been text–messaging someone instead of paying attention! At
least I wasn't alone in my frustration of trying to find something to do to make it through the painful
moments of the class. Finally, my list of numbers was dwindling as the clock ticked ever closer to
the magic moment when the bell would finally ring. It was with great anticipation that I waited to
make the final mark. When the bell

Ever wish there were a delicious smoothie somewhere to buy at an inexpensive price? Well there is,

scrumptious smoothie.
To make a good smoothie, the materials needed are: about Вѕ cup of juice, or milk, about 2 cups of
fresh or frozen fruits, ВЅ of yogurt, and finally, 6 cubes of ice if the fruits aren't frozen. A blender
that can crush ice well and that has a secure lid is also required. Unlike other recipes, a smoothie
recipe doesn't have to use exact measurements. To have a better tasting smoothie, use frozen fruits.

To make the smoothie healthier, include a scoop of whey or soy protein powder. For a sweet
smoothie, use pineapple juice for the liquid. Something creamy? Try milk. Try using different
flavored yogurts and combinations of fruits. Now that all the material is prepared, get cooking!
Gather all the ingredients and put them in the blender. To make things easier, put the fruits first, and
then the milk or the juice. The liquid will help the fruits melt a bit, making it easier to pure. Finally,
add the yogurt. When all the ingredients are in the blender, turn it on, using the liquefy or puree
setting. Depending on the blender, wait about 30 seconds and turn it off so that the fruits will be
mixed up well with the liquid and the yogurt. Make sure to put the cap on the blender and watch out
for the cutter! It hurts if you cut yourself on it.
When the ice cubes stop blending, turn off the blender and see if the smoothie is clear and if there
are no chunks of fruits inside. Get a spoon and move it around in the blender to check. If the
smoothie looks too thin add more fruits or ice and this should thicken it up. If it looks too thick, add
more liquid in it. Adding yogurt or a banana will thicken the smoothie, but don't add both unless
another watery fruit is used in the smoothie.
Once this step is finished, pour the cool concoction into a large glass. For maximum health benefit,
drink the smoothie straight away. If there is too much, then freeze the smoothie. A frozen

I have been taking Expository Writing for 4 months. I have found that I need to be able to
communicate myself in writing. I must relay exactly what I'm trying to put forth to others and
convey the right message of understanding. I must be able to explain myself, negotiate, and work
in teams. My language skills can be worked on and improved. I need to be able to pick up the
language of whatever environment I'm in whether it be at work or school, or in society. Since
everyone does not have the same background, learning how to write the written word is important
in any environment. I have learned how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and
how to find answers to things I do not know. Most important I have learned how to believe in my
writing.
I was very hesitant in taking this English class, I have not taken an English class in many years.
When I took the placement test for reading and English, I tested out of all categories. I was proud
of myself for that feat. When I found I was going to have to take a college level English class, I
avoided it at all costs. Too much pressure. However, I have learned about the Rhetorical Essay
was to understand how an author writes and not focus on what the content is. Knowing the
explanation of what techniques and author uses to make their point come across to the intended
audience. I learned about Argumentative Research Paper is to debate both sides of an issue. The

Presentation is meant to deliver an effective presentation to engage your audience. Your audience
listens to not only what you are saying but your visual engagement in the topic being presented.
Also, the point of the class is to be able to work with others to achieve a desired outcome or task.
To know that I can work with others in a cohesive environment to draw on everyone's input and
views. This will assist me in the real work of life and assist in handling many types of people and
myself in communicating.
I have never been a good writer; however, I have learned that communication is not the same when

In each half of an inning one team bats while the other plays the field. If the score is tied after
nine innings are over then the game is continued into extra innings and is concluded when one
team is winning after an extra inning. These are the basic rules of baseball. THE FIELD AND
EQUIPMENT Baseball is played on a field, which usually covers about two acres. The field is
divided into an infield and an outfield. These two parts are considered fair territory and the rest
of the field is considered foul. The infield is in the shape of a diamond and is 90 ft on each side.
One point of the diamond is home plate which batters hit from. The other three points are bases:
first, second, and third base. In the middle of the diamond is a pitchers mound which is slightly
raised off the ground. The edges of the diamond from home plate to first base and home plate to
third base are the foul lines, which extend all the way to the wall in the outfield. Behind first base
is right field, behind second base is called center field, and behind third base is called left field.
Fences are placed at the farthest limits in the outfield. In foul territory beyond the foul lines in the
infield are dugouts where players sit when they are not playing or waiting to bat. Baseball also
consists of many pieces of equipment. Baseball equipment includes the following: a hard ball

Introduction to Psychology The concern about life is a main human characteristic. No matter if his
concern is concentrated in himself or in persons or things that surround him and constitute his
environment, everybody wants to know why people, himself included, behave the way they
behave. Everybody, also, wants to improve his behavior, so as to live in harmony with himself and
the society. The Greek word Psychology, is a word consisted of the words
ψυχή–soul and λόγος–utterance, talk. So,
generally, psychology is the science that examines the soul. But , since the psychologists work on
the problems of the personal, family, school, professional and social life, we could say, more...show

The heartbeats, the movements of our head are behavior. The way we eat, the way we drink, the
way we walk, we talk, are behavior. The construction of a bridge, the composition of a song are
behavior. The fantasies of a child, the dreams of a adolescent, the illusions of an alcoholic are
behavior. Although we are all familiar with human behavior, a little do we understand or we can
explain about it. Since our infancy we learn about behavior through the experiences and the
knowledge that we get by observing other people or having relations with them. Living in society
leads us to watch and try to explain the way people behave. But that is not always easy. Sometimes
we cannot understand even ourselves. Psychology comes to give answers to all this uncertainty.
Therefore, according to modern psychology, the term behavior means all the conscious,
unconscious, verbal, mental and kinetic expressions of ourselves. Psychology uses statistic
researches so as to distinguish the normal behavior from the abnormal one. Such a thing is very
difficult because every society has its own behavior standards, and, consequently, an act that is
normal according to one society, may be abnormal according to another. For example, polygamy is
not permitted in Europe, but it is permitted in certain societies in Africa. So, the judgement of a
behavior must bear in mind the social environment in which it takes place .

Everything Wrong With School In 10 Minutes or Less!
When I was twelve, I had no appreciation for school. I saw it as nothing more as a glorified
daycare center with all the rules and regulations specifically designed to restrict as much fun as
possible. Then one day in the ninth grade, I had a revelation: what if school was actually meant to
build me up with knowledge and facts and not just waste my time? This was the foundation I
needed to get me through the next four years. Whenever I was bored, I would remind myself that I
'd never have a "free" education like this again. I adapted particularly well to this system of tests,
quizzes, and science labs but I could never understand the hang up some people had with it. School
was basic and easy and all it seemed to require was consistency an+d proper scheduling. I looked at
people who couldn 't understand US History or Geometry and I thought they were dumb. It wasn 't
until much later with much more reflection that I came to conclude there 's a difference between
how you score on the SATs and how smart you actually are. Education isn 't necessarily a direct line
to becoming intelligent and knowledgeable; education is nothing more than an institution designed
to equip people with subsets of specialized processing methodologies, algorithms, and a fair bit of
esoteric trivia. Furthermore, the current educational system in place is inefficient because of its rigid
nature.

Even though expository essays and persuasive essays both have research and a thesis statement, they
are different in the way that expository explains while persuasive argues. The expository writer
provides clarifying information about a topic while the persuasive writer presents an argument. The
purpose of an expository essay is to explain to the reader your position without trying to get the
reader to choose your side. In a persuasive essay you write to persuade the reader to choose an
argument side. They are similar in the way on how they are structured they both require a thesis and
a lot of research.

Violence is one of the most problematic issues society faces today, and it has been increasing day

given as negativity towards something or someone either through physical or verbal actions, which
often causes the victim to suffer pain. The different types of violence that exist in our multi–cultural
society are out–numbered, but the most evident ones are domestic, gang, sexual, and racial violence.
While violence can definitely be reduced, it will never be eliminated due to the nature of humans.

in Etobicoke, and the news article contained sentences like "Six victims in six months" and

sentences have officially crossed the border and have become all too familiar in Canadian cities.
In order to cut back this outlaw behaviour, we need to educate our youth about the ill effects of
gangs, drugs, guns, and should try to persuade them to instead make friends with those who accept
you for who you are and use all their time in doing something positive and proactive. As a result of
reducing and preventing gang violence, many cities have created special task forces and given
schools their own police officers.
Sexual violence is another form of violence that has plagued our cities. This crime involves violence
that is specifically sexual in nature, to which the victim does not give consent. According to 2005
statistics, 51% of all Canadian women have experienced at least one incident of sexual violence. 6
out of 10 victims who reported being sexually violated were under 17. These numbers are alarming
