Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain Essay
Marcel Duchamp's Fountain by Sarah Shea HUMN406–01 Professor Nelson
Marcel Duchamp's Fountain People often ask what constitutes good art. Who decides whether or not a piece is art and whether it is good art or not?
Marcel Duchamp challenged popular notions of his day about what art actually is. Duchamp, a French artist living in New York at the turn of the
century, believed that it was up to the artist to determine what art is. Duchamp is most famous for a type of sculpture he created called
"readymades"1. Readymades are ordinary functional household objects that have either been joined to other objects, or chosen to stand alone as
sculpture. Examples of his readymades include a coat hanger nailed to the floor of his studio, a hat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was much ado over these happenings. Articles appeared in major newspapers regarding it, but still no one knew who Richard Mutt was. An
article also appeared in The Blind Man, an art journal Duchamp himself published. The anonymous author of the article defended the Fountain as
art and went on to say "The only works of art America has given are her plumbing and her bridges." 3 This was the early 1900's, so at this time the
idea of "modern art" was still fairly new. People were starting to get use to it, but were not comfortable enough to be introduced to something such
as Fountain. A bathroom fixture, especially a urinal, was considered too inappropriate, and was even said to be immoral. In that same article in The
Blind Man, the author defends Fountain on this matter by saying, "Now Mr. Mutt's fountain is not immoral, that is absurd, no more than a bath tub
is immoral. It is a fixture that you see every day in plumbers' show windows." This is a very true statement; after all, bathtubs are not considered
immoral are they? However, it being a urinal, and because of its reference to unpleasant bodily functions, it may seem inappropriate to have to study
and examine it for any period of time, like art is suppose to be studied. This is certainly valid reasoning. Perhaps, however, because the urinal was
flipped onto its back, and called "Fountain" rather than "Urinal", it is divorced from the whole bathroom scene,

Examples Of Informal Deviance
The extra credit assignment I chose to talk about was the Informal and Formal deviance talked about in Dalton Conley's book "You may ask
yourself". According to Conley, there are two forms of deviance, formal and informal. The informal aspect is one where there is no law being
broken but more along the lines of breaking a social norm. The second form of deviance is formal and this is where a law is broken and you will be
punished accordingly (Conley, D. 2017. P. 191). In my image above the white man is drinking out of the colored water fountain which back in the
1940's was illegal and this is a formal deviance, or crime, which is the violation of laws enacted by society. (Conley, D. 2017. P. 191) In 1896 Plessy
vs Ferguson, the courts ruled

Father Time : A Short Story
"Why are you changing the time," said Flow looking at Mother Time winding a clock.
"Well I'll tell you, this is where it all began," said Mother Time. "Welcome to my laboratory seedling you will be here forever," said Father Time,
Talking to a seed that is laying in his hand. Father Time had a lot of time on his hands. He had kept plants and seed for thousands of years, and never
even planted them. His only friends was Pegasus and his seeds. He lost his family in a rainstorm. With trees lying on the ground with cars swerving
everywhere.
He liked to eat only butter plain. "Hey Father Time, what are you doing," said Pegasus walking into his shed. Father Time picked up his time spear
and threw it at the pots that were about to fall on Pegasus. Time spears slow everything down, and only Father Time can see them. "Thanks," said
Pegasus, still shocked. Whats up PG," said Father Time "I'm going to fight dragons to get a magical gem. People say it can give you magical powers of
your choice; others say it is good for jewelry," said Pegasus.
Father Time said,"sure what could go wrong?", they left the house in a matter of minutes.
While they were walking to a huge mountain where the jewel were located, they came across a canyon. The canyon was as wide as New York City
and deeper than the Midnight Zone of the ocean, it was impossible to see the bottom. If you jumped off the edge, it would take you an hour to reach
the bottom. No light has ever reached the end of the dark depths.

Research Paper On Marcel Duchamp
Marcel Duchamp Marcel Duchamp was a phenomenal artist, who gave Art an altered name. He shaped movements such as, Conceptional Art,
Dadaism, Surrealism, Pop Art, Installation Art, and created Readymades. Duchamp changed many views on what some people thought was nothing
into something. For example, one of Duchamp's greatest pieces of art is the "Fountain". The "Fountain" is a urinal, which is most often seen as
something functional in its natural environment; yet when Marcel Duchamp placed a urinal in an art exhibition in 1913 and called it Fountain, it was
transformed into sculpture. Marcel Duchamp himself described the conventions by which we measure art today, saying, "It is we who have given the
name "art" to religious things; the

The Kindlifresser: The Fountain Of The Eater Of Little...
There are many statues and monuments around the world but none are as strange, disturbing, and as savage as the Kindlifresser. Located in Bern
Switzerland the Kindlifresser or "Child Eater" is a fountain that stands tall in the middle of Bern. Atop the fountain stands an ogre type man with a
young child in his mouth and more in his sack. The fountain was made in 1545 by a man named Hans Gieng. The statues original name Kindlifresser
that directly translates into "The Fountain of the Eater of Little Children." Yet no one knows exactly why this statue was made. There are many
theories about this statues meanings and why it was built. The most common theory is that the statue was a warning to the Jewish community that

The fact that the fountain is pretty tall but it is very neat in colors and design. The focal point of the fountain would be the bears on the bottom of
the fountain. With the bottom half of the fountain being dark colors with the beautiful gold, stand out against the reds and greens and black that
sounds the pillar. If you're a tourist walking by this beautiful in appearance fountain then you would stop to look at it. The first thing noticed would
be the gold on the pillar leading up to the ogre. This gold on the fountain attempts to take all the attention away from the ogre. It is believe the gold
was added to the fountain because people in Bern were concerned about people not coming to visit due to just the ogre eating babies is not very
attractive. (Source B). It takes the focal off of the ogre because if people see the baby being ate by an ogre then why would you want to stay in that
city, therefore they made the pillar leading up to the ogre very beautiful so people looking at it focus on the pillar and not the ogre on top of the pillar
that is eating the

Narrative Essay : The Wishing Fountain
The Wishing Fountain The sun glared down through the clouds on the small town of Elm Hill. Smells of death were in the wind this morning,
originating from the center of South Park. A man lay limp at the bottom of the wishing fountain, his face and hands slowly turning blue. Water
lapped up against the dead body of a middle aged man. His fingers slowly uncurled from a fist once holding a copper penny. Water splashed down
on him, slowly pulling at his extravagant clothing. His golden watch glimmered in the sunshine. Nobody knew what happened to him, and
nobody seemed to care. The days were getting shorter and nights grew cold. Streets of Elm Hill were littered with golden leaves as fall was
coming to an end. Parents were sending their kids outside to play for the last time that season for the cold weather was coming. Soon families
would be trapped inside for 3 long months as they waited for winter to pass. Meanwhile, not everyone was fortunate enough to enjoy winter inside.
Specifically, the man that lodged under the South Park bridge, called Mr. Nada by the kids of Elm Hill. After he was laid off from work and his
family abandoned him, he was left to the streets. Teased and taunted by the neighborhood kids, he led a very disgraceful life. With no available jobs
and nobody willing to help him out, his sole source of income were the coins thrown in the park's wishing fountain. Every night, as dusk drew near, he
would sift through the fountain and collect as many coins as

Descriptive Essay About Fountain Pen
I've always enjoyed collecting the finer utensils in life – mainly writing and shaving instruments to be specific (but maybe next year I'll get really into
forks and spoons). Between the two of these, though, my first love was pen collecting.
As a child, I remember hearing my father tell stories about how, when he was younger, he used to send letters to car companies asking for posters and
pins, at one point even receiving a free stamp in the mail with his name. To this day, he still uses that stamp on official documents.
He inspired then 8–year–old Sanjay to write a letter to Nintendo, asking to beta test the latest DragonQuest game. Since then, I have received over 200
dollars worth of stationery–related product in the mail, all under the same, albeit somewhat cheesy, letterhead: "Help! I'm a struggling student who
needs a nice pen to improve my grades!" Apart from this, I have attended Seattle's Fountain Pen Club, as the only representative of the under–60 age
group, received countless pity–rejection letters from companies too smart for my antics, and a sponsorship from ChopSaver lip balm. Sure, using
fountain pens can be a pain. Having to clean them out with a bulb syringe every two weeks is no easy task, and the pain that comes with trying to
find "fountain pen friendly" paper is sometimes so unbearable that I have to resort to using a ballpoint. However, I began to love fountain pens not just
for their interesting look and feel, but rather to supplant my feeling

Pete Fountain and his Admirable Life
Pete Fountain is famous for his substantial clarinet skills, but many people do not know that he is from New Orleans. Fountain loved playing music
on the side of the street and began doing so when he was sixteen years old. He always loved his fans, and he treated them with respect. Fountain loved
the awards he obtained. The musicians he played with inspired and encouraged his music. The people he played with was Monk Hazel, Phil Zito, and
the Junior Dixieland Band. Therefore, Pete Fountain is known as one of the most spirited clarinetists of his time.
Pete Fountain was a young adult when he started playing the clarinet. He practiced on the side of Bourbon Street of New Orleans. Pete Fountain will

Everything was perfect until yesterday, when the humans decided to strip us of our most valuable treasure, the fountain of youth and fortune. This has

Mentos Lab
Introduction: The diet coke and Mentos experiment has been a favorite of amateur scientists, but how does it work? There have been debates, and
scientists have concluded that the diet coke and Mentos is a physical reaction, called nucleation. Nucleation sites are areas that have high surface with
low volume. Such places can be your fingerprint, scratches on glass, specks of dust, or even Mentos candy (Eepy Bird). Mentos candies have a pitted
surface that's rough when looked at through a microscope, therefore creating a wonderful place for nucleation to occur. Water molecules like to be next

affect the size of the fountain? – The difference between diet and regular soda is that diet soda uses artificial sweeteners, like aspartame for example.
This affects the fountain because low surface tension helps bubbles grow quickly. The surface tension in water containing aspartame is lower than
sugary water, which explains why diet soda creates a bigger fountain thatn regular soda (NewScientist). 4. What differences are there between

Alexander The Great: The Water Of Life
The Fountain of Youth is a mystical spring with the supposed capabilities of restoring the youth and curing the disease of whoever bathes or drinks
from it. There are many tales and legends that have been recounted throughout the world concerning this fountain. Many stories have been written
about the search for it. It started with the Greek historian Herodotus describing the fountain. Then, Alexander the Great supposedly went looking for it.
Additionally, the Christian patriarch and king, Prester John is thought to have also ruled over a land with a similar fountain in the early crusades.

geographical discovery that came with the fountain back then is no longer applicable now. There is now technology that makes something like a

was still mystery and hope that came along with it. Additionally, today modern companies capitalize on the idea of preserving youth through anti–aging

Influence Of The Fontana Dell Acqua Paola
The grand and beautiful Fontana dell'Acqua Paola is a portrayal of the power and wealth of the Borghese family, specifically Pope Paul V Borghese.
Placed on Janiculum Hill, the fountain has an incredible view of the entire city. The large marble fountain was a renovation of an existing fountain
called the Ancient Acqua Traiana, built by Emperor Trajan in 109 CE (Hamblin), gaining further inspiration from the Fontana dell'Acqua Felice. It was
installed in 1612 and designers included Giovanni Fontana who planned the fountain itself, and Carlo Fontana who created the semicircular pond that
was added later on (Heilmann, 2). Popes of the 16th and 17th century used fountains and aqueducts not only to deliver water but to establish and

Smith states that hegemony, "is the ability of the state and the ruling class to regulate beliefs within a society. Hegemonic beliefs are dominant cultural
motifs which reinforce inequality and which short–circuit attempts at critical thinking" (Smith, 36). The fountain was a way to enforce and allude to
the creeds of the Pope and the Catholic Church. In this sense, it is obvious that works of art are a large part of culture and cultural identification. The
fountain became a part of history, not only because it is still standing, but also because of the cultural significance seen in the various symbols,
material and stories behind the different parts of the fountain. While culture is an ambiguous and debatable term, it is commonly understood and
agreed that arts developed by societies define a large part of a culture. There are several socio–cultural functions of art, including being a record of
history, contributing to the transmission or propaganda of ideology or beliefs, and allowing for further cultural change. Works of art and artifacts are
transcendent in nature of theories and ideology, and therefore, cannot be fully analyzed objectively through the theories used. However, as seen in the
history of Rome, it was established early on that the "government and elite individuals would act as patrons of public art, architecture, and spectacle in
the Roman world" (Tuck, 19). As Tuck also states,

In the pleasant description, I discussed the chirping of birds. I have discussed the sounds of water in the fountain and the rustling of leaves due to cool

the leaves rustling was creating an amazing environment, there were also some dead leaves in the fountain decaying over days and months
contaminating the environment.
I also skipped some details in order to maintain the mood and tone. In my pleasant description, I skipped the dead and decaying leaves settled in the
fountain bottom, while discussing the stream of water rising from the fountain. The reader could have got a negative impact of a good place had I
mentioned the garbage details in the positive description.
Similes and metaphors also helped me writing the description. The water from fountain crafting a magical melody depicts the beautiful environment
out there. The rustle of leaves portrays the grace of nature. The bright colors of flowers have strong resemblance with juvenile period of human being,
which makes the description more pleasant. Similarly, gloominess specifies sadness in the negative description.

used pastel colors to paint pictures of a newly reformed society. In his painting Hester Street revealed a New York City that was accepting to Jewish
culture and lifestyles (Figure 1) . Other pictures painted during the Progressive Era depicted more areas of city life, sports, different ethnic groups
and culture. The life that was present in many of these painting showed a country that valued women, minorities, and individuality. Women were
beginning to be celebrated with the help of such painters as John Sloan. His creation of Sunday, Women Drying their Hair (Figure 2) showed women
just drying their hair. This painting could be seen as a celebration of women as it was painted near the times of Woman's Suffrage. The Progressive era
helped to establish prominent figures such as Winslow Homer, Grant Wood, and also Thomas Eakins. Individuals such as these also used brushes to

Persuasive Letter For Tap Water In Schools
Dear Members of the Downey Unified School District School Board,
We value and admire your provision of drinking water for all of our scholars at DUSD schools. Thank you for allowing us to choose among installing
drinking fountains that consist of school tap water, placing water dispensers that use bottled water, and supplying individual water bottles. I recommend
that you install drinking fountains because tap water holds dominant affordability and environmental responsibility in differentiation to the other
selections.
Firstly, I recommend that you supply drinking fountains with tap water because they possess an affordable characteristic in comparison to the other
options. For instance, a twenty– four pack of water bottles costs an average price of three dollars. Once you buy seventy cases, the cost approximates
to two hundred ten dollars. For a cooler filled with bottled water, each gallon of water costs roughly one dollar. If the school purchases seventy cases,
it would cost nearly seventy dollars. These amounts of water, individually or combined, lack providing the school with enough water for even one day.
However, the requirement for drinking fountains that use tap water is to finance money for the water bill. Further, Annie Leonard... Show more content

I can conclude this because plastic bottles cause environmental difficulties and pollution. In addition, the water from water coolers would be poured
into plastic or paper cups, piling up the trash bins with waste, and producing just as much pollution as the water bottles. Cups or bottles hold an
unnecessary position with drinking fountains. I can confirm this because Annie Leonard explained the decomposition situation. She claimed, "Eighty
percent [of plastic bottles from bottled water] end up in landfills, ...or...are burned, releasing toxic pollution." If we install drinking fountains, then the
campus' pollution levels will

Words To Describe Chicago
Dangerous, chaotic, gun violence, murder rate, and "Chirac" are all words used by various amounts of people on twitter, when asked to describe
Chicago using one word or phrase. If I were to describe the city of Chicago, I would simply say: complex, diverse, misunderstood, windy, and lastly
beautiful. Many people who view Chicago as a bad city, because of all the crime and murder rate, which is why people refer to Chicago as "Chirac".
Being born and raised in Chicago, I can tell you that Chicago is a much better city than most people view it as. This windy city, specifically downtown
Chicago loop, is such a beautiful place to visit in the summer and has special meaning to me.
In order to get to the downtown Chicago loop, you can take the train. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This beach is known to be one of the most popular beaches in the downtown Chicago loop area and is always packed with tons of people in the
summer. People are always looking for ways to avoid thinking about the sun, and North Avenue beach is the perfect place to be to avoid your
thoughts on the extremely hot weather. I love to feel my feet soak into the soft, warm sand. There are volleyball nets set up in the sand, so I
always make sure I have a ball to play. I can play volleyball for hours on the sand, although when I finish, my wrists are as red as tomatoes. After I
play volleyball, I prepare myself to get in the water. The water is always cold of course. But, on a hot and humid day, the temperature of the water
just right for me. There is also has a beach house shaped like a boat, where you can go in and put your belongings in lockers or use the washroom.
There are more activities to do at North Avenue Beach other than playing volleyball and swimming. You can tan, people watch, rent bikes to ride,
rent jet skis or kayaks, or grab a snack from the concessions stands that people set up. Many people rent bikes to ride them down lake shore drive.
On the other hand, many people also go to North Avenue beach just to buy food. I love to buy funnel cakes. I always get a funnel cake with extra

The Islamic Storming Of Spain
The Islamic storming of Spain was a tempestuous and conflicted time in history. Today it is often portrayed by historians as a battle of good versus
evil; a forfeiting of an ebullient culture that diminished at the hand of Abd Al–RaḥmДЃn 's Muslim–led army that began infiltrating Spain from
North Africa in AD 711. However, what ensued thereafter was a convergence of great knowledge, trade innovation, and hydraulic technology that had
not existed in the region before Islamic arrival. The idealistic "garden of paradise" came closer to reality with the rich climatic environment of Spain
and the fabric of knowledge handed down from the Islamic world of the Moors. Upon the arrival of the Moors, who were essentially Muslims from

Most of Europe, especially that of which was under Christian rule, was very skeptical of pagan texts of the ancient Greeks and Romans and never
came to study these writings due to discrimination. Muslims, however, did not ignore these valuable teachings and strove to find new knowledge
within other cultures and societies. Much of Greek knowledge stems from the ancient Egyptians, the bulk of it being preserved at the Library of
Alexandria. During the Muslim occupation of Alexandria, they had direct access to this elusive bank of knowledge and translated large amounts of
books into Arabic, including the bible. From this, Islamic society tapped into a great understanding of the world around them and eventually brought
this rich knowledge with them to the al–Andalus. Among theses teachings, Muslims had a great understanding of irrigation and hydraulic systems
passed on from the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians, which would become a great asset to their success in agriculture, landscaping, and
gardening in Spain ("Al–Andalus History"). Virtually barren lands of the Iberian Peninsula became flourishing centers of agriculture through the
implementation of hydraulic and irrigation technology of the Muslims, thus bringing great wealth and power to the region through trade. Plants
including palm trees, citrus, avocado, and pomegranate, none of which had been seen in Europe before, became bountiful in al–Andalus

A Colored Man Drinking From A Water Fountain
Imagine living in a world where the color of your skin mattered. The photograph I chose to analyze is one that struck me hard due to the harsh reality
of our country 's past. This popular photograph often seen in textbooks is a result of segregation in American history. Captivating is one word I would
use to describe the photo of a colored man drinking from a water fountain. The photograph is in black and white and helps magnify the importance this
photo has today. We can look at this photograph from our past and for many years to come, try to answer the many questions of why segregation
existed. The gross injustice in treating others of different races poorly will forever haunt American history and leave white Americans feeling
humiliated.
This time in our history is incredibly important to understand. For a great amount of our nation's history, our people have not lived as equals. It was a
foundation in our creation that enslavement and a hierarchy would be created. Because of our ancestors, "white" was deemed as the supreme race and
all other races would be subordinate. It started with the enslavement and removal of the Native Americans who lived in this country long before the
English, French and Spanish arrived. Then, following the example set forth by the Spanish in Latin America, the English began importing African
slaves. The goal in this being for them to do the manual labor that was so important for the development of the United States. However, with

Lorado Taft: The Most Important Part Of My Life
Michelle Obama, the former First Lady of The United States of America once said "Just try new things. Don't be afraid. Step out of your comfort
zones and soar, all right." I believe that we should try new things. I have had the opportunity to do many different things in my life such as going on a
trip to Japan, going to Lorado Taft and doing an engineering and coding class at Rolling Meadows. All of these experiences were very influential in
my life and in all of them I took a chance and they ended up being helpful experiences that became important parts of my life.
I would like to start with a unique experience during the summer before 8th Grade. I was going on a 14–hour plane ride to Japan where I would stay
for 10 days. It would be my first time flying without my parents and my first time flying over the Pacific Ocean. I was hesitant to go because none of
my friends were going but I took the chance and I am very glad that I did. Before I embarked on the ten–day trip, the students from Japan came here

Discussion Questions On Marcel Duchamp's Urinal Painting
Kimberly Greene Professor Whiting HUMN 2002–Art March 11, 2017 Art Assessment II Task 1: Artist: Marcel Duchamp Title: Fountain Signed: R.
Mutt Year: 1917 Task 2: Do you think this is art? Is it art or not, why? Yes, I believe that Marcel Duchamp's urinal painting is considered art because
it served as some type of meaning or purpose to him. He was inspired in some way to paint this type of artwork/painting. One can interpret it in more
ways than one. Some may not even understand it, but somehow Duchamp did and that is all that matters. So, therefore, this is what led to him painting
such a feature and that is why I would consider it as a piece of art. Task 3: Find information on Fountain. Consider concepts. (Write additional notes
here.)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His famous painting, titled Fountain, "is viewed as one of Duchamp's most famous works and is widely seen as an icon of 20th century art." (Tate).
Therefore, I believe if it changed how people viewed Conceptual art and artwork throughout that era/time period, then it is considered as such a
famous piece of artwork. While some may not understand the point of Duchamp's painting of "the urinal," others find much needed purpose to it. If it
outlined and changed such an era/time period of art, then I would say Duchamp set a new limit on what is to be or not to be considered art. I believe
art is what comes from the inside–the inner soul and what draws through because what lies within you, serves as a meaning to not only you, but to
others as well. While, some people look at a piece of art or artwork and somehow find no meaning to it, and think, "Oh, I could have done that by
just dabbing or throwing a little paint on the canvas," others find meanings to these pieces of artwork. To me, I believe that all artwork has a
meaning and serves a purpose to the artist and/or painter. While we may not understand all of the concepts highlighted in a painting, such as this one,
or in any such artwork, I believe that we can still get something out of it, as a whole. By saying this, I believe that this is exactly what Duchamp did
and believed, "that you couldn't define art," and that is why I consider Duchamp's famous piece, Fountain, which drastically changed the views

What is Fountain Hills? What is Fountain Hills, Arizona? Underneath the surface of this quiet town, there is an interesting history, an abundance of

was the privately owned, P–Bar Ranch, and had a vague history. After changing hands several times, it came into the possession of Robert P.
McCulloch. Robert Paxton McCulloch (May 11, 1911– February 25, 1977) was an entrepreneur and industrialist, who graduated from Stanford
University, and had a curious history of his own. He developed the one–man operated chainsaw, built three other communities, purchased the old
London Bridge, developed a centrifugal supercharger used in such iconic cars as the 55' Kaiser Manhattan, 57' Studebaker Golden Hawk, and the 57'

She wanted to give similar opportunities to current children, therefore, she put more attention into kids' programs like dancing class, football program,

loves working with youth and activities that she could learn new adventures. Currently, contracted classes, which is hiring companies, are booming
because those are more efficient and cheaper. Usually, companies provide basketball, softball, and other classes. In addition, intergenerational program

Reflection Essay 1– Tree Huggers
1. Summary of the Article: The Articles discussed the issue of lianas' massive overgrown over the trees in Amazon forests. There are both good news
and bad news about it: the good news is that: the lianas provide food and water for animals passing the forest during the dry season, when water and
food are relatively hard to find for animals. (Fountain,A Tree Hugger,2011). The bad news, however, is that the stems of the vines have grabbed soil
nutrients, water and light away from the trees, which are essential for trees to grow and survive.(Fountain,A Tree Hugger,2011)Besides, the lianas have

The forest is actually the main player for this carbon sink process, as the forest include a huge amount of trees. When the leaves absorb the carbon
dioxide by photo synthesis, the carbon is stored in the tree as energy, thus reducing the CO2 level in the environment. Therefore the forest is the big
garage for storing carbon and reduce CO2. When the forest is destructed,, there will be less trees cleaning the CO2 in the atmosphere through the
process of separating the carbon, storing energy and release oxygen, so not only is the oxygen level get reduced, but CO2 level rises as well, as they

Apple could have thought of having these changes done without a supplier base also as this hub system although useful for Apple and Fritz, was a bit
riskier for suppliers as cases of extended warehousing, damage at hub and delay in shipments etc.. were considered As mentioned in the case Apple had

Research Proposal On Water Fountains
BACKGROUND
The current water fountains at Lawrenceburg High School are broken with poor filtration systems. The water fountains are also inconvenient for the
students and the school. The current water fountains are costing the school more money, because the filtration is not effective and water is lost. The
old water fountains pose many threats such as making students sick from improper sanitation and not allowing the students to get the appropriate
amount of water they need throughout the day. The students can be late to class trying to find water, which will cut into their learning time. "Access to
free, potable, and appealing drinking water in schools is important because children spend substantial time in school settings, and students may come to
school already dehydrated" (Pantel). This text explains the importance of having proper water fountains in school. Students and faculty at
Lawrenceburg High School need new water fountain, because it will be very beneficial to the school as a whole.
OBJECTIVES
The objective of this research proposal is for Lawrenceburg HIgh School to receive functional water fountains with notable water filtration system. New
water fountains at Lawrenceburg High School would be very beneficial. New water fountains with a better filtration system means water being saved
on the school budget, allowing students to get enough hydration, and being very troublesome to anyone who wants to use them. The new water

who directed me to Shoua Shinde, the epidemiologist and "department detective", whose areas of expertise were biology, microbiology, biostatistics,
and knowledge of communicable diseases ("Outbreak at Watersedge," 2004). She informed me that there were many people in the hospital with severe
diarrhea and other symptoms and asked for my help in order to understand what is going on. She introduced me to Terry Tower, thepublic health

pinpointed a place to start, which was the Thompson Park, because all five people aside from the other activities and places went there on the same
day to participate in Thompson Park cleanup. Then Shoua asked me to go to the park, to explore and take notes of what I think could be important.

The Fountain Of Youth Research Paper
Stories have been passed down from generation to generation since the dawn of time. Stories were often passed down for a purpose, whether it was
to bring joy or hope to a person, or to teach an important lesson. Folktales date far back and are no exception. Folktales reflect physical, emotional, and
social survival, while the characters' experiences help to teach important life lessons.
Physical survival was one of the types of survival folktales show throughout the stories. In The Fountain of Youth a group of Hispanic men must try to
find a magical fountain that will turn them young again and help them cheat death (Marcatante, "The Fountain of Youth" 95). Due to the fact the men

In Johnny Appleseed's Secret the family knowing the British were coming would have upset them and caused stress and worry (Marcatante,
"Johnny Appleseed's Secret" 46). After Johnny told the family that the British were coming they became worried and frightened because the
British were their enemies and could steal from them or even kill them. A lesson that can be learned from this is if people have the ability to help
someone, then they should do it. Johnny walked two hundred miles to warn the settlers that the British were on their way. People often do not go
out of their way to help each other and that should change. The First Tears is a second example of a folktale that demonstrates emotional survival.
"As he spoke, water began to flow from the eyes of Woman and Son, and they cried with Man. In this way people first learned to weep" (Schlosser,
"The First Tears"). Man, Woman, and Son cried for the first time displaying the emotions of sadness and disappointment. A moral that can be taken
from The First Tears is success does not always come at first, but do not give up. Man had to cope with his disappointment in order to try again.
When a person fails at something it is tempting to give up. People need to persevere through challenges in order to be successful. There are many

almost three hundred thirty–seven years after his dead until now [1]. Many of his artwork can be still appreciated at the gallery Borghese and other

Bernini's style is just recognizable because of his engagement and drama, texture, movement and naturalism of his artworks, which is completely
expressed in the fountain of the four rivers. This master piece was from the beginning designed and sculpted by Bernini and Bernini's workers. This
was not the case for the fountain of the moor. This fountain, which was originally designed by della Porta with just a central dolphin and four tritons,
lacks detail. If we compared these two fountains we can noticed that the fountain of the four rivers is carefully made in detailed. It has movement, it
expresses something. Just considering the obelisk surmounted by the dove in the fountain of the four river makes us realized how passionate was
Bernini in his pieces, which is the same detail and expression that reveals the center master piece in the moor fountain. The difference in technique
between these two fountains as well as the design style between della Porta and Bernini, from what he modeled to what Bernini's did in the fountain of

Boundaries within the garden are created through the trees and hedged on the outer perimeter. Inside the park, the limestone curbs/walls define the

Spaces like the Jay Pritzker Pavilion and the Great Lawn individually create space through division of territory. The Great Lawn is defined by a
large area of cut grass. The enormous space welcomes onlookers from every direction of the park. It's flat and soft surface allows visitors to freely

the lawn where people can freely occupy a space. Collectively, the two spaces are hard to miss, because they tower over a majority of trees and

Marcel Duchamp’S Fountain Essay

  • 1. Marcel Duchamp’s Fountain Essay Marcel Duchamp's Fountain by Sarah Shea HUMN406–01 Professor Nelson Marcel Duchamp's Fountain People often ask what constitutes good art. Who decides whether or not a piece is art and whether it is good art or not? Marcel Duchamp challenged popular notions of his day about what art actually is. Duchamp, a French artist living in New York at the turn of the century, believed that it was up to the artist to determine what art is. Duchamp is most famous for a type of sculpture he created called "readymades"1. Readymades are ordinary functional household objects that have either been joined to other objects, or chosen to stand alone as sculpture. Examples of his readymades include a coat hanger nailed to the floor of his studio, a hat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was much ado over these happenings. Articles appeared in major newspapers regarding it, but still no one knew who Richard Mutt was. An article also appeared in The Blind Man, an art journal Duchamp himself published. The anonymous author of the article defended the Fountain as art and went on to say "The only works of art America has given are her plumbing and her bridges." 3 This was the early 1900's, so at this time the idea of "modern art" was still fairly new. People were starting to get use to it, but were not comfortable enough to be introduced to something such as Fountain. A bathroom fixture, especially a urinal, was considered too inappropriate, and was even said to be immoral. In that same article in The Blind Man, the author defends Fountain on this matter by saying, "Now Mr. Mutt's fountain is not immoral, that is absurd, no more than a bath tub is immoral. It is a fixture that you see every day in plumbers' show windows." This is a very true statement; after all, bathtubs are not considered immoral are they? However, it being a urinal, and because of its reference to unpleasant bodily functions, it may seem inappropriate to have to study and examine it for any period of time, like art is suppose to be studied. This is certainly valid reasoning. Perhaps, however, because the urinal was flipped onto its back, and called "Fountain" rather than "Urinal", it is divorced from the whole bathroom scene, 3 Marcel Duchamp himself most ... • 2. Examples Of Informal Deviance The extra credit assignment I chose to talk about was the Informal and Formal deviance talked about in Dalton Conley's book "You may ask yourself". According to Conley, there are two forms of deviance, formal and informal. The informal aspect is one where there is no law being broken but more along the lines of breaking a social norm. The second form of deviance is formal and this is where a law is broken and you will be punished accordingly (Conley, D. 2017. P. 191). In my image above the white man is drinking out of the colored water fountain which back in the 1940's was illegal and this is a formal deviance, or crime, which is the violation of laws enacted by society. (Conley, D. 2017. P. 191) In 1896 Plessy vs Ferguson, the courts ruled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I asked her if we needed a trip to the fountain, she hesitated then slowly nodded. The three of us walked a short block before we reached the rusty fountain that made all our problems disappear for a short period of time. Celia was always the first to jump in, always the first to do anything spontaneous. I was always second. This time we laid down at the same time getting our whole bodies soaked. Moments later Grace finally laid down next to us. Silence with them has always felt comfortable, no pressure to say or do anything but just be present. • 4. Father Time : A Short Story "Why are you changing the time," said Flow looking at Mother Time winding a clock. "Well I'll tell you, this is where it all began," said Mother Time. "Welcome to my laboratory seedling you will be here forever," said Father Time, Talking to a seed that is laying in his hand. Father Time had a lot of time on his hands. He had kept plants and seed for thousands of years, and never even planted them. His only friends was Pegasus and his seeds. He lost his family in a rainstorm. With trees lying on the ground with cars swerving everywhere. He liked to eat only butter plain. "Hey Father Time, what are you doing," said Pegasus walking into his shed. Father Time picked up his time spear and threw it at the pots that were about to fall on Pegasus. Time spears slow everything down, and only Father Time can see them. "Thanks," said Pegasus, still shocked. Whats up PG," said Father Time "I'm going to fight dragons to get a magical gem. People say it can give you magical powers of your choice; others say it is good for jewelry," said Pegasus. Father Time said,"sure what could go wrong?", they left the house in a matter of minutes. While they were walking to a huge mountain where the jewel were located, they came across a canyon. The canyon was as wide as New York City and deeper than the Midnight Zone of the ocean, it was impossible to see the bottom. If you jumped off the edge, it would take you an hour to reach the bottom. • 5. Research Paper On Marcel Duchamp Marcel Duchamp Marcel Duchamp was a phenomenal artist, who gave Art an altered name. He shaped movements such as, Conceptional Art, Dadaism, Surrealism, Pop Art, Installation Art, and created Readymades. Duchamp changed many views on what some people thought was nothing into something. For example, one of Duchamp's greatest pieces of art is the "Fountain". The "Fountain" is a urinal, which is most often seen as something functional in its natural environment; yet when Marcel Duchamp placed a urinal in an art exhibition in 1913 and called it Fountain, it was transformed into sculpture. Marcel Duchamp himself described the conventions by which we measure art today, saying, "It is we who have given the name "art" to religious things; the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Located in Bern Switzerland the Kindlifresser or "Child Eater" is a fountain that stands tall in the middle of Bern. Atop the fountain stands an ogre type man with a young child in his mouth and more in his sack. The fountain was made in 1545 by a man named Hans Gieng. The statues original name Kindlifresser that directly translates into "The Fountain of the Eater of Little Children." Yet no one knows exactly why this statue was made. There are many theories about this statues meanings and why it was built. The most common theory is that the statue was a warning to the Jewish community that could be found in Bern.... The focal point of the fountain would be the bears on the bottom of the fountain. With the bottom half of the fountain being dark colors with the beautiful gold, stand out against the reds and greens and black that sounds the pillar. If you're a tourist walking by this beautiful in appearance fountain then you would stop to look at it. The first thing noticed would be the gold on the pillar leading up to the ogre. This gold on the fountain attempts to take all the attention away from the ogre. It is believe the gold was added to the fountain because people in Bern were concerned about people not coming to visit due to just the ogre eating babies is not very attractive. (Source B). It takes the focal off of the ogre because if people see the baby being ate by an ogre then why would you want to stay in that city, therefore they made the pillar leading up to the ogre very beautiful so people looking at it focus on the pillar and not the ogre on top of the pillar that is eating the ... • 8. Narrative Essay : The Wishing Fountain The Wishing Fountain The sun glared down through the clouds on the small town of Elm Hill. Smells of death were in the wind this morning, originating from the center of South Park. A man lay limp at the bottom of the wishing fountain, his face and hands slowly turning blue. Water lapped up against the dead body of a middle aged man. His fingers slowly uncurled from a fist once holding a copper penny. Water splashed down on him, slowly pulling at his extravagant clothing. His golden watch glimmered in the sunshine. Nobody knew what happened to him, and nobody seemed to care. The days were getting shorter and nights grew cold. Streets of Elm Hill were littered with golden leaves as fall was coming to an end. Parents were sending their kids outside to play for the last time that season for the cold weather was coming. Specifically, the man that lodged under the South Park bridge, called Mr. Nada by the kids of Elm Hill. After he was laid off from work and his family abandoned him, he was left to the streets. Teased and taunted by the neighborhood kids, he led a very disgraceful life. • 14. Descriptive Essay About Fountain Pen I've always enjoyed collecting the finer utensils in life – mainly writing and shaving instruments to be specific (but maybe next year I'll get really into forks and spoons). Between the two of these, though, my first love was pen collecting. As a child, I remember hearing my father tell stories about how, when he was younger, he used to send letters to car companies asking for posters and pins, at one point even receiving a free stamp in the mail with his name. To this day, he still uses that stamp on official documents. He inspired then 8–year–old Sanjay to write a letter to Nintendo, asking to beta test the latest DragonQuest game. Since then, I have received over 200 dollars worth of stationery–related product in the mail, all under the same, albeit somewhat cheesy, letterhead: "Help! I'm a struggling student who needs a nice pen to improve my grades!" Apart from this, I have attended Seattle's Fountain Pen Club, as the only representative of the under–60 age group, received countless pity–rejection letters from companies too smart for my antics, and a sponsorship from ChopSaver lip balm. Sure, using fountain pens can be a pain. Having to clean them out with a bulb syringe every two weeks is no easy task, and the pain that comes with trying to find "fountain pen friendly" paper is sometimes so unbearable that I have to resort to using a ballpoint. However, I began to love fountain pens not just for their interesting look and feel, but rather to supplant my feeling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eighty percent of the planet is composed of water and eighty–five percent of the population are mermaids and mermen. For centuries we have lived in a world of peace with the humans and have created an everlasting friendship. Everything was perfect until yesterday, when the humans decided to strip us of our most valuable treasure, the fountain of youth and fortune. This has caused chaos in the water, and infuriated my father, the King of the Ocean. Not only do I see this as a betrayal from the humans, but as a chance to prove myself – to all the mermaids, mermen, and my father – who I truly am. There have been debates, and scientists have concluded that the diet coke and Mentos is a physical reaction, called nucleation. Nucleation sites are areas that have high surface with low volume. Such places can be your fingerprint, scratches on glass, specks of dust, or even Mentos candy (Eepy Bird). Mentos candies have a pitted surface that's rough when looked at through a microscope, therefore creating a wonderful place for nucleation to occur. Thank you for allowing us to choose among installing drinking fountains that consist of school tap water, placing water dispensers that use bottled water, and supplying individual water bottles. I recommend that you install drinking fountains because tap water holds dominant affordability and environmental responsibility in differentiation to the other selections. Firstly, I recommend that you supply drinking fountains with tap water because they possess an affordable characteristic in comparison to the other options. For instance, a twenty– four pack of water bottles costs an average price of three dollars. Once you buy seventy cases, the cost approximates to two hundred ten dollars. For a cooler filled with bottled water, each gallon of water costs roughly one dollar. If the school purchases seventy cases, it would cost nearly seventy dollars. The gross injustice in treating others of different races poorly will forever haunt American history and leave white Americans feeling humiliated. It was a foundation in our creation that enslavement and a hierarchy would be created. Because of our ancestors, "white" was deemed as the supreme race and all other races would be subordinate. It started with the enslavement and removal of the Native Americans who lived in this country long before the English, French and Spanish arrived. Mutt Year: 1917 Task 2: Do you think this is art? Is it art or not, why? Yes, I believe that Marcel Duchamp's urinal painting is considered art because it served as some type of meaning or purpose to him. He was inspired in some way to paint this type of artwork/painting. One can interpret it in more ways than one. Some may not even understand it, but somehow Duchamp did and that is all that matters. His famous painting, titled Fountain, "is viewed as one of Duchamp's most famous works and is widely seen as an icon of 20th century art." (Tate). While some may not understand the point of Duchamp's painting of "the urinal," others find much needed purpose to it. If it outlined and changed such an era/time period of art, then I would say Duchamp set a new limit on what is to be or not to be considered art. I believe art is what comes from the inside–the inner soul and what draws through because what lies within you, serves as a meaning to not only you, but to others as well. While, some people look at a piece of art or artwork and somehow find no meaning to it, and think, "Oh, I could have done that by just dabbing or throwing a little paint on the canvas," others find meanings to these pieces of artwork. To me, I believe that all artwork has a meaning and serves a purpose to the artist and/or painter. While we may not understand all of the concepts highlighted in a painting, such as this one, or in any such artwork, I believe that we can still get something out of it, as a whole. The most interesting thing in the article is the way that the lianas survive and gain nutrients. As mentioned in the article, the lianas actually depend somewhat on the tree to survive, as it can't stand and grow from the ground by themselves, and need the trees' trunks to support them to go all the way to the top and gain more sunlight and grow.(Fountain,A Tree Hugger,2011) They depend on trees, yet they ... The Case also provides background on two existing supplier hubs – one in Cork, Ireland and one in Fountain Colorado. This allows us to contrast the effect of a hub in the US with that in Europe. For international shipments Fritz entities were involved at port of origin, entry and at the hub. It arranged transportation using many carriers over various shipment legs. It invested heavily to upgrade its Information system in support of the supplier hub project including innovation of FLUX, an tracking system which flowed through the process i.e from Order, Booking, In–transit, At Customs, Inland transit, Warehousing and pulled for delivery by Apple. This system also included defective material category, financial flows and all –in–all Apple was able to monitor the delivery/ inventory process. c. Could Apple have made any of these changes without implementing a supplier hub? What alternative solutions could have been implemented? Apple could have thought of having these changes done without a supplier base also as this hub system although useful for Apple and Fritz, was a bit riskier for suppliers as cases of extended warehousing, damage at hub and delay in shipments etc.. were considered As mentioned in the case Apple had difficult in convincing the suppliers for the hub Agreement and even had to customize these on a supplier–to–supplier case.

  • 38. The Infectious Agent That Caused The Outbreak Of... Outbreak at Watersedge game was a fun experience that allowed me to assimilate the epidemiological process, which I used in order to find the infectious agent that caused the outbreak and to identify the disease, caused by that agent. The process I went through in order to start my investigation started at the Watersedge Department of Health, where I visited as a new intern. At first I met Leslie Hernandez, the Health Planner, who directed me to Shoua Shinde, the epidemiologist and "department detective", whose areas of expertise were biology, microbiology, biostatistics, and knowledge of communicable diseases ("Outbreak at Watersedge," 2004). She informed me that there were many people in the hospital with severe diarrhea and other symptoms and asked for my help in order to understand what is going on. She introduced me to Terry Tower, thepublic health nurse, who offered me to analyze and map the results of the interview for the first five patients. After mapping the results of five interviews I pinpointed a place to start, which was the Thompson Park, because all five people aside from the other activities and places went there on the same day to participate in Thompson Park cleanup. Then Shoua asked me to go to the park, to explore and take notes of what I think could be important. Meanwhile the number of reported cases increased to 20. In the park I met Mai, the Environmental Health Specialist, whose areas of expertise was toxicology, biology, chemistry, water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Fountain Of Youth Research Paper Stories have been passed down from generation to generation since the dawn of time. Stories were often passed down for a purpose, whether it was to bring joy or hope to a person, or to teach an important lesson. Folktales date far back and are no exception. Folktales reflect physical, emotional, and social survival, while the characters' experiences help to teach important life lessons. Physical survival was one of the types of survival folktales show throughout the stories. In The Fountain of Youth a group of Hispanic men must try to find a magical fountain that will turn them young again and help them cheat death (Marcatante, "The Fountain of Youth" 95). Due to the fact the men did not find the fountain of youth they will not become young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Johnny Appleseed's Secret the family knowing the British were coming would have upset them and caused stress and worry (Marcatante, "Johnny Appleseed's Secret" 46). After Johnny told the family that the British were coming they became worried and frightened because the British were their enemies and could steal from them or even kill them. A lesson that can be learned from this is if people have the ability to help someone, then they should do it. Johnny walked two hundred miles to warn the settlers that the British were on their way. People often do not go out of their way to help each other and that should change. The First Tears is a second example of a folktale that demonstrates emotional survival. "As he spoke, water began to flow from the eyes of Woman and Son, and they cried with Man. In this way people first learned to weep" (Schlosser, "The First Tears"). Man, Woman, and Son cried for the first time displaying the emotions of sadness and disappointment. A moral that can be taken from The First Tears is success does not always come at first, but do not give up. Man had to cope with his disappointment in order to try again. When a person fails at something it is tempting to give up. People need to persevere through challenges in order to be successful. There are many folktales that display emotional survival, Johnny Appleseed's Secret and The First Tears are only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Importance Of Bernini Master Piece Bernini's Master Pieces It's impossible to talk about Italian Baroque art without Bernini. Bernini, who is considered the most important sculptor and one of the most important outstanding architect during the 17th century, still gives to the world the opportunity to enjoy the most inspiring and wonderful seeing of his artworks almost three hundred thirty–seven years after his dead until now [1]. Many of his artwork can be still appreciated at the gallery Borghese and other public piazzas, such as Piazza Navona, Piazza Barberini, and others. In Piazza Navona can be appreciated the fountain of the four rivers or "La Fontana di Quattro Fiumi". This fountain was initially made not just for showing the power and glory of the pope and his family, but also in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bernini's style is just recognizable because of his engagement and drama, texture, movement and naturalism of his artworks, which is completely expressed in the fountain of the four rivers. This master piece was from the beginning designed and sculpted by Bernini and Bernini's workers. This was not the case for the fountain of the moor. This fountain, which was originally designed by della Porta with just a central dolphin and four tritons, lacks detail. If we compared these two fountains we can noticed that the fountain of the four rivers is carefully made in detailed. It has movement, it expresses something. Just considering the obelisk surmounted by the dove in the fountain of the four river makes us realized how passionate was Bernini in his pieces, which is the same detail and expression that reveals the center master piece in the moor fountain. The difference in technique between these two fountains as well as the design style between della Porta and Bernini, from what he modeled to what Bernini's did in the fountain of the four rivers, is just simple, stagnant and not ... The enormous space welcomes onlookers from every direction of the park. It's flat and soft surface allows visitors to freely dictate how they want to use the space, ranging from relaxing to engage in physical activities. The Jay Pritzker Pavilion defines itself separately from the Great Lawn by using cement as a surface instead of grass. Individuals that occupy this space are welcomed by a fixed seating area, unlike the lawn where people can freely occupy a space. Collectively, the two spaces are hard to miss, because they tower over a majority of trees and sculpture in the park.
