HIGH DENSITY 10BASE-T ETHERNET
MODULES
LANNET's innovative family of advanced high
density Ethernet modules offer rich features at an
affordable price. Flexible options for network design
let you select the number of ports and connector
types that best suit your network topology
requirements:
l The LE-180XT is equipped with 12 RJ-45 ports
l The LE-280XT is equipped with 24 RJ-45 ports
l The LE-240XTC connects 24 users via two
TELCO connectors.
2. DESCRIPTION
The LANNET family of high-density Ethernet
modules and MultiNet enterprise hubs provides a
cost-effective solution to network segment
design. These Ethernet modules plug directly into
the hubs offering flexible connectivity for meeting
diverse wiring and network needs.
The 24 port LE-280XT and LE-240XTC increase the
capacity of the MultiNet hubs allowing for any
combination of shielded and unshielded twisted pair
cabling.The LE-280XT has shielded RJ-45 ports and
occupies two slots in the hub.The LE-240XTC has two
TELCO connectors and occupies one slot in the hub.
The LE-180XT features port granularity in 12 shielded
RJ-45 ports and occupies one slot in the hub. For
example, an LE-180XT can be combined with two
24 port modules for a segment of 60 ports, thereby
saving cost by using hub space more efficiently. Port
usage is maximized with fewer idle or wasted ports.
In addition to supporting IEEE 802.3 10BASE-T
repeaters, each port may also be employed for
direct hub to hub connections. Both modules use
standard UTP/STP cabling and individual link
lengths may extend to 160m (525 ft). Used together
with LANNET fiber-optic modules, network
diameters of over 4 km (2.5 miles) can be achieved.
Flexible bus selection lets you distribute Ethernet
stations over four independent LAN segments,
allowing for the most efficient use of the hub's
resources.

FAULT TOLERANCE
Bus Redundancy
Each module can be attached to any one of the
four Ethernet buses on the backplane of the
MultiNet hub with a separate bus assigned as a
backup. If the primary bus fails, the module
automatically and instantaneously toggles to the
alternate bus to preserve network integrity.
Port Redundancy
For fault tolerant network design, ports 1 and 2 can
be configured as redundant to each other. Link
communication automatically switches to the
standby port if the active link fails, providing
failsafe communications. Switchover is performed
instantaneously and is transparent to the user.
Auto Polarity Detection and Correction
(APDC)
LANNET's high density Ethernet modules
automatically correct the polarity of received data
caused by crossed-wiring errors. When the
10BASE-T port senses that the signal of a received
packet is reversed, it automatically corrects the
polarity.
Powerful Diagnostic Capabilities
All modules have built in diagnostic capabilities.
Front-panel LEDs indicate normal link operation,
receive link failure, and partitioning-active for each
port.
Network downtime is prevented through automatic
partitioning of faulty segments. When normal
operation resumes, reconnection also takes place
automatically.
Network traffic and collision information on each
segment may be monitored in the modules. Front
panel LEDs indicate when data is received and
when collisions occur.
MANAGEABLE CONNECTIVITY
LE-240XTC, LE-280XT and LE-180XT can be
monitored and controlled by LANNET's MultiMan
Network Management System or any other SNMP-
compliant system. MultiMan offers comprehensive
performance and event reporting down to the port
detail level.
With MultiMan, configuring the modules' operation
parameters such as standalone mode, primary and
secondary bus or port redundancy is as easy as
point-and-click.
Switches
In the absence of a management agent, the
modules may be manually controlled. On-board
DIP switches let you fully configure the selectable
parameters prior to installation in the hub.
Standard Mode
Each module allows selection between two modes
of operation: standard or standalone. In standard
mode, the module is connected to any one of the
four Ethernet buses on the backplane of the hub.
Standalone Mode
In standalone mode the module does not interface
with the backplane Ethernet buses at all, and
thereby functions as a multiport repeater on an
independent LAN. Standalone mode enables the
hub to house up to 16 separate, yet fully managed,
Ethernet segments.
