Dog Fighting Research Papers
Abusing or killing another living creature is one of the worst crimes imaginable. We each have the
will to choose our own actions. However, some individuals choose to hurt or kill animals who
cannot defend themselves. There is a terrible sport in America that has grown over the decades
called dog fighting. This cruel endeavor needs to be stopped before more innocent dogs are brutally
murdered.
Dog fighting is a sport that puts two dogs into a ring or pit to fight until one cannot continue or dies
["Animal Fighting Case Study: Michael Vick."]. Spectators bet money on the outcome of the fight.
Owners of the dogs use cruel conditioning to create dogs that will be vicious in the ring and win,
making the owners and the gamblers money. Some rings...show more content...
Over the centuries dog fighting was outlawed in many countries but this insidious sport continues to
survive and the abuse is still impacting communities today. Dog fighting in America did not become
illegal in many states until the 1860s. However, dog fighting continued publicly well into the 1940s,
until finally being driven underground due to public outrage and the withdrawal of the United
Kennel Clubs endorsement. In 1976, dog fighting was outlawed in all U.S. states but law
enforcement did not enforce the laws until decades later [Detailed Discussion of Dog Fighting]. In
addition to the brutality that the animals endure, this sport attracts unscrupulous individuals,
gambling and violence to the communities that do not stop these

In today's world there is an underground layer. "By our estimate, there are tens of thousands of dog

said to be an underreported and poorly enforcement crime. In terms is understood why it's hard to be

in case of a raid. When a place is raided and people are caught they are taken to jail. Then they

in about two to five years. Then two to three years of probation with no ownership of dogs. This

Persuasive Essay On Dog Fighting
There are over 16,000 dogs that die each year due to organized dog fighting and this number
continues to grow. Dog fighting occurs when two dogs are set to fight until one cannot fight
anymore and is close to death. Many times these dogfights will occur in an organized setting, that is
unknown to much of the population. CNN claims that an estimated 40,000 people in the United
States are involved in professional dogfighting, an illegal blood sport. When participating in these
fights, owners can make up to $100,000 in just one fight, ultimately if the dog wins, but didn't fight
hard enough he or she will be killed. Dog fighting is unjust and should not be tolerated. When
looking at the high number of deaths and fights occurring year round it truly sickens me to think that
people could treat an animal like this. To start off, allowing these animals to fight to their death is
inhumane and goes against their basic right to life. Animals are sentient beings and deserve moral
consideration and by killing these animals and making them fight it is violating all basic rights that
they have. Animals are closely related to humans, they have the ability to feel pain and suffering so it
is important that these animals receive the same moral considerations that all humans get. The most
common injuries that these dogs sustain during these fights include severe bruising, deep puncture
wounds and broken bones. Imagine having a deep puncture wound and a broken bone without any
pain

Dog fighting is one of the most sadistic forms of animal cruelty. These dog fights are forced fights
orchestrated by humans, and is often done to make money and for entertainment purposes. The
dogs that are used are typically raised in isolation, so they spend most of their lives on short, heavy
chains. Some chains weigh about 20 to 40 lbs "That's almost twice the dog's own body weight"
(ASPCA). They are regularly conditioned for fighting through the use of drugs, including anabolic
steroids to enhance muscle mass and encourage aggressiveness. Dog fights are cruel and wrong,
many dogs never recover, and people need to realize what is more important to life.
Dog fighting is wrong on many levels. Fighting dogs sometimes may have their ears cropped and

Many dog fighting operations have been found out by our humane society's animal cops, but the
findings are breathtaking ("Dog Fighting"). Some dogs are found hanging from chains in trees in
the backyard of the owner's property. Others are even found buried alive in boxes. It is truly a
horrendous sight to see ("ASPCA").Very few dogs are found to be nonaggressive, most are
biting at their catch poles as rescuers attempt to remove them. The odds of rescuing
nonaggressive dogs are 10 in a 100. Once a dog rescued was a little girl, poor little thing was
found tied up in a corner half starved rescuers say she was used for breeding ("ASPCA"). A huge
percent of dog fighters have female dogs who the very rarely bring them into fights but rather just
use them for breeding. When a female can no longer produce offspring they are either starved or
used as bait. Unbelievable numbers of dogs have been rescued but once they are brought up into the
fighting environment, it is very rare that they will drop their aggressive behavior that they have
cruelly and inhumanely been raised to

Dogfighting And Animal Abuse Essay
"Dogfighting is more than just a crime. It's a deep, persistent stain on our national character that,
despite being illegal in every state, still disgraces our culture with a shockingly wide diversity of
locations, participants and onlookers." – Matt Bershadke, ASPCA President & CEO
It is hard to believe that "there are tens of thousands of dog fighters in the U.S., forcing hundreds of
thousands of dogs to train, fight, and suffer every year." (2)
Dog fighting is a huge part of animal abuse. We generally think of individual people, or families
that abuse their dogs, but dog fighting is also a large part of the issue. "The shocking number of
animal cruelty cases reported every day is just the tip of the iceberg; most cases are never reported."

The owner will probably do this using crude and painful techniques. These abused dogs will have
spent their entire life training while being isolated from any dogs or humans. Only the best
fighters get to have quality food and veterinary care. Other dogs are not fed enough and they also
do not get the same veterinary care as the good fighters. Dogs are often given illegal and legal
drugs to enhance muscle mass and encourage aggressiveness. This can lead to additional crimes
for the owner. Most of the time, dog fights are not to the death, but occasionally they are. "Fights
can last just a few minutes or several hours, and both animals may suffer injuries including
puncture wounds, lacerations, blood loss, crushing injuries and broken bones". If the dog is
extremely injured, they might die because of loss of blood. If a dog losses and does not have a
winning history, it will be left without care to its injuries. If the dog is an embarrassment to its
owner, the owner will kill it in a brutal fashion as part of the

Cruel Dog Fighting
The Cruel "Sport" of Dog Fighting For animal lovers, it is difficult to understand why someone
would cause a dog to engage in vicious fights, inflicting and receiving injuries or often death.
Dogfighting is a serious and continuing problem all over the United States. A dogfight takes
place in a ring made of plywood and is usually held in a hidden location such as a vacant garage or
the basement of a house or business. Fights can last for hours, and the dogs are made to keep going
even after having painful injuries such as torn flesh and broken bones. The fight goes on until one of
the dogs is unable to continue. Dogs may die immediately of their injuries, sheer exhaustion or later
from infections. Dog fighting should be stopped everywhere....show more content...
Dogfighting is also part of a criminal subculture that can involve gang activity, illegal gambling,
drug use, and drug dealing. Illegal gambling is an inherent part of a dogfight, and because of the
large amount of money that changes hands, weapons are common on the scene. Children are often
present, and besides the inherent danger of the situation to a child, their witnessing such cruelty has
been shown to lead to violence. Most dogs used for fighting are pit bulls, normally known for their
courage and energy. Pit Bulls have unfortunately been exploited by breeders running illegal kennels
and by trainers who encourage aggression in their animals by various means: exercise to the point of
exhaustion, starvation, beating, and harsh punishment. They beat these animals, feed them hot
peppers, feed them gunpowder, and lock them in small closets. They do everything they can to
make these animals vicious and mean, so the dogs become powerfully strong and aggressive. Many
dogs are found dumped with untreated severe injuries or are tortured or hanged after losing fights.
During the dog fighting the dogs themselves are not the only animal victims. Smaller animals such
as kittens, puppies, and rabbits are killed and used as bait in training

Dog fighting is a very cruel thing, and it is happening right under our noses. It is illegal to fight a
dog in all fifty states. By being an observer at a dog fight, it is against the law in forty–seven states.
So why do people continue this cruel practice? The answer seems to be money. Some people who
breed dogs for fighting can sell their puppies for up to two thousand dollars. Even though fighting
dogs is making money, it is cruel since pain is inflicted on the dogs; the ASPCA and the Humane
Society are trying to prevent this with proper training. Some people might ask, "What is dog
fighting?" The definition of dog...show more content...
Once the dogs prove to be ready, they are placed in the pit against larger dogs to test their
willingness or determination to face collapse and future defeat. If the dogs pass the test, they are
deemed ready to fight. When this happens, they are brought into the arenas after being washed, to
make sure they have nothing on their coats that will harm the other dogs. A pitch usually
consisting of plywood walls, about twenty feet in diameter with carpet, is where the fight will
take place. Inside of the pit there will be an indication of lines, usually marked by masking tape or
paint. The animals are brougt to the pitch by their owners. Inside the arena there will be one referee
and the two owners of the dogs. On command, the dogs will be released, they smash together like a
couple of mac trucks. They look like a wrestling match with teeth, biting one another, trying not to let
go of their opponet. The matches can last up to forty–five minutes and end when one dog can no
longer fight back because of exhaustion or death. With the horrific thought of dogs being trained to
fight and kill, the two top agencies, the ASPCA and the Humane Society, are doing what the can to
try to make society aware of the cruelty of dog fighting. There are also the local law enforcement
agencies that are doing everything that they can to stop this cruelty to animals by arresting the
people that they can catch illegally fighting dogs. To do away with street dog

The Ethics Of Dog Fighting
Across the world people abuse animals for sport, gambling, and pure exploitation like dog
fighting, cock fighting, and breeding dogs just to be able to sell them to places such as shady pet
stores and such. Dog fighting is a very lucrative illegal activity that goes largely unpunished these
people take poor dogs and inbreed them with their moms, dads, and siblings to be able to create the
perfect fighting dog that can make them loads of money. Some other things these groups do include
giving them drugs that induce rage and make them even more lethal. These sorts of activities give
other breeds such as pit bulls bad reputation; any dog regardless of type can be prone to violence,
especially due to birth defects to inbreeding. In other parts

Argumentative Essay On Dog Fighting
Over the years many agree that dogs are one of the most loyal companions that people can get their
hands upon. They are willing do almost anything for their masters, hunt, cuddle, and even fight other
dogs. According to Orhan Yilmaz, dog fighting has been going on for centuries as a past time. When
a dog enters a fight, there is almost always one dog getting injured, sometimes it is so bad that the
owner of the dog carries it away in a bag to disguise it, just so the police do not see the injured
creature. Having dog fights in an area repeatedly will end up attracting more crime even which
causes only more trouble. A dog trained for fighting ends up becoming somewhat savage and likely

states, it needs to be tracked more and make the culprits get locked in a cell for what they have
done because it harms the dogs that are fighting, it ends up bringing more crime to the area where
this takes place, and also makes it dangerous for veterinarians to work on a dog that is now
potentially a hazard.
Oliver 1 Dog fighting always ends up harming dogs quite severely, leaving permeant marks such
as bite or claw marks which make the dog look tainted in the eyes of some, rather an animal that's
being used against its will. Dogs for fighting may be born, bought, or even stolen for the sole use of
fighting another dog. "Though different breeds are used in dog fighting, the most common breed
associated is the American Pit Bull Terrier." (Destreza 281) The dogs used for fighting get very
little compassion in their lives, living alone with only one thing being taught to them, to fight all
other animals that they see. If a dog tries to escape from a dog fight instead of fighting, the owner
normally will end up disposing of the animal. "When a dog is not successful in a fight,

This may cause the animal pain, suffering, or lasting harm. Some experiments include forcing an
animal to be injected with a potentially dangerous substance, letting an animal be exposed to
radiation, removing the animal's organs or tissues to cause harm on purpose, making an animal
breathe in toxic fumes or gases, and causing feelings of anxiety and depression during frightening
processes. Some people say that the information from the animal is more important than the animal's
suffering and pain. Animals have a shorter life span, which helps scientists see how it affects them
over their lifetime. Animal testing can be very painful for the animal. During an eye test, scientists
clamp the eye open and cover the animal in chemicals. Animals are sometimes injured during testing.
Only some animals are protected by laws. Although these laws exist, some testers don't follow them.
This means that the animals can be abused. Animals that are used are mammals, fish, amphibians,
and certain invertebrates like octopus. These animals are the only ones that are defined as an animal
by European legislation governing animal experiments. In the USA, mice rats, fish, birds, and
amphibians are not defined as an animal under animal experiment regulations. What this means is
that animal testers do not need permission to experiment on them. Over 70% of the tests are done
without giving the animal any

Dog fighting needs to have a harsher punishment because it allows owners to train their dogs in
horrible circumstances. In one case in England, there are reports of dogs and owners who come
to children's playgrounds to train the dogs to fight. In the article, it said the people make the dogs
bite on to the equipment and hang off it to strengthen their bite before the illegal fight. "I find it
absolutely astonishing that anyone is stupid enough to train fighting dogs but to do so in
children's playground shows quite remarkable levels of idiocy and selfishness. There have been
to many reports in the media of young children being seriously injured by dogs so to train a
fighting dog in a playground and to condition it to behave violently around play equipment which
is used by toddlers is one of the most despicable things that I have heard in a long time." said
Chris Bond, the council member for the Enfield council in England. There is also evidence found
that dogs are forced to train their jaws by ripping off bark from trees. This is killing trees as well as
hurting their jaws. This is why dog fighting

Sadly, it is estimated that about "16,000 dogs [are] killed each year in organized dog fights and that
number continues to grow," according to the stop dog fighting organization. Not to mention, it's also
"not unusual to see $20,000–30,000 change hands during a single fight" ("What Is Dog Fighting,

not only harms the dogs themselves but also the people involved, and can be prevented by
spreading awareness and taking action. The unfortunate part about dog fighting is that it is
incredibly hard to catch in action. Karen Tiller, a professional dog fight detective, says that she

My plan is if we can keep as many dogs from getting into the dogfighting business as possible, then
we can save many more lives and create a safer world. If you love dogs and want to save a life,
you can adopt a dog. By adopting a dog you will be saving it from the horrors of dog fighting
because for every dog that's adopted, one less dog is used in dog fights. So, don't let an innocent
dog get chained up for the rest of their short lives because that's what the fight dog's owners do.
They give the dogs steroids "to enhance muscle mass and encourage aggressiveness," according to

Dog Fighting Research Paper
"I choose to fight, but dogs don't. Dog fighting is for cowards don't do it" says famous fighter
Shane Mosley. Lots of people don't know what dogfighting is, but I'm very passionate about
putting an end to it once and for all. Dog fighting is where big, strong dogs are put together and
have to fight and then whoever loses is chained up to something to die. In order to prevent or solve
this problem I can help raise awareness, I would volunteer to help rescue fighting dogs, and I can
donate necessities to help them take care of the dogs.
Raising awareness is very effective. All I have to do is make posters and hang them up and people
will see them everyday. I also could speak out. Like having a fundraiser or a meet up with people
than I can share to all of them what dog fighting is, and how we can stop it. Another way I can raise
awareness is to advertise. I could write a short paper and put it in the newspaper or I could create a
website where people could learn more about dog fighting and how to adopt dogs or (a more modern
day approach) I could post it on social media, this will surely spread the word.

lot of that stuff because they can't afford it. But I would always donate that to help. The last thing
I would donate are dog bones, dog treats, dog toys, and leashes. Then the dogs will never get bored
in their cages and will always be on a leash so they can go for a walk. This is a very important thing

American Dog Fighting Essay
Dog fighting is an inhumane blood sport in which dogs are forced to fight for profit and
entertainment.Though it is a felony in all fifty states, it continues to happen all across America.
These fights usually take place in a 14–20 square foot pit designed to contain the fighting

The most popular dog used in American dog fights is the Pit Bull. Because of the Pit Bulls
reputation as a fighting dog, many people believe that they are not suitable family companions,
especially around children. They believe that fighting is in their genetics, and that they were
born for the sole purpose of fighting. This is not true. Any dog can behave in an aggressive way.
The way a dog acts depends on how it was raised, how it was treated, what it was surrounded by
throughout it's puppyhood. Sadly, most dogs rescued from these fights have to be euthanized
because the can not acquiesce with a family lifestyle. 20,000 dogs a week are put down for dog

against animals." This definition is presented in a paper written by Learning To Give, an
organization that teaches children to give back, take voluntary citizen action, and engage civilly and

commit violent crimes against humans (PETA). If a person loves the feeling of overpowering
others, why would they stop with one category? People who enjoy the feeling they get when they're
in control will always be power hungry unless they get help; unless they are stopped. The Humane
Society estimates that approximately one million animals per year are either abused or killed in
relation to a domestic violence situation. From the U.S. Department of Justice (as of 200), there are
approximately 2.168 million women and men that are physically assaulted by an intimate partner in
the US. The APPMA (American Pet Product Manufacturers Association) estimates that 63% of U.S.
households own a pet (Humane Society).
The American Humane Association, whom since 1877 has aimed to protect children, pets, and farm
animals from abuse and neglect, also gives insight to the correlation between animal cruelty and
domestic violence. According to them, 71% of women, who owned pets, entered women's shelters
reported that their abuser had either injured, maimed, killed, or threatened the family's pets as an act
of revenge or in order to control their victims psychologically. Also, 68% of

Dog Fighting: Prison For Life

People involved in dog fighting must be put in prison for life. I believe this because illegally
using dogs for personal pleasure is morally wrong. People who kill dogs for their benefit is
technically murder, dogs have lives and we should not be able to manipulate them to our advantage.
Men and women who murder any type of animal are not human and should not be allowed to live
with the earth's community anymore. People need to notice what dog fighting is doing to dogs and
other animals.
People kill dogs for sport all the time. For example," Pro football player Michael Vick was caught

Dog fighting is an insidious underground organized crime that, although completely outlawed, has
reached epidemic proportions in the United States. This disgusting 'sport' involves the actual pitting
of two dogs against each other in a ring to fight for the entertainment of the spectators. The dogs,
usually pitbulls, literally bite and rip the flesh off of one another while the onlookers cheer, scream,
and place bets on which dog will win the match. After the fight, both dogs are left critically
wounded. Generally, the loser of a match dies or is killed, unless he has any salvage value to his
owner. But all in all, dogfighting is pure, unadulterated animal abuse. Why would people even
partake in it, and what are the effects on the dogs and the communities which surround them?
There are many reasons people are drawn to dog fighting, the most basic being greed. Major dog
fight raids have resulted in seizures of more than $500,000. Stud fees and the sale of pups from
promising bloodlines can also bring in thousands of dollars. For others, the attraction lies in using the

to that type of dog. You and your family gave it to your neighbor who seemed nice. Then, you see

Then, she is arrested after you called the police. As an owner of 4 dogs, this would be horrible if this

Dog Fighting Essay

  • 1. Dog Fighting Research Papers Abusing or killing another living creature is one of the worst crimes imaginable. We each have the will to choose our own actions. However, some individuals choose to hurt or kill animals who cannot defend themselves. There is a terrible sport in America that has grown over the decades called dog fighting. This cruel endeavor needs to be stopped before more innocent dogs are brutally murdered. Dog fighting is a sport that puts two dogs into a ring or pit to fight until one cannot continue or dies ["Animal Fighting Case Study: Michael Vick."]. Spectators bet money on the outcome of the fight. Owners of the dogs use cruel conditioning to create dogs that will be vicious in the ring and win, making the owners and the gamblers money. Some rings...show more content... Over the centuries dog fighting was outlawed in many countries but this insidious sport continues to survive and the abuse is still impacting communities today. Dog fighting in America did not become illegal in many states until the 1860s. However, dog fighting continued publicly well into the 1940s, until finally being driven underground due to public outrage and the withdrawal of the United Kennel Clubs endorsement. In 1976, dog fighting was outlawed in all U.S. states but law enforcement did not enforce the laws until decades later [Detailed Discussion of Dog Fighting]. In addition to the brutality that the animals endure, this sport attracts unscrupulous individuals, gambling and violence to the communities that do not stop these Get more content on HelpWriting.net

"By our estimate, there are tens of thousands of dog fighters in the U.S., forcing hundreds of thousands of dogs to train.."(Dog Fighting). Dog fighting, is said to be an underreported and poorly enforcement crime. In terms is understood why it's hard to be defeated. When the dog fights happen they are in places abandoned. Most people that are charged with dogfighting get out in about two to five years. Then two to three years of probation with no ownership of dogs. This should be changed, some people go right back into dogfighting. People convicted for dogfighting should go through something like sex a fenders go through. Have a yearly check up with someone of the law. In dogfighting anything and everything is done to turn on the survival instincts. At fifteen months puppies are put against each other. His cousin put Vick's address down on a police form. So when the cops went to find him they arrived and saw signs of dogfighting. As the investigation went on there was later found a pit of blood stains. The cops went and got a new search warrant(A Closer Look). Later Vick was accused of dogfighting, he pulled in his three associates. Purnell Peace, Quanis Phillips and Tony Taylor, were the three associates. • 3. Persuasive Essay On Dog Fighting There are over 16,000 dogs that die each year due to organized dog fighting and this number continues to grow. Dog fighting occurs when two dogs are set to fight until one cannot fight anymore and is close to death. Many times these dogfights will occur in an organized setting, that is unknown to much of the population. CNN claims that an estimated 40,000 people in the United States are involved in professional dogfighting, an illegal blood sport. When participating in these fights, owners can make up to $100,000 in just one fight, ultimately if the dog wins, but didn't fight hard enough he or she will be killed. Dog fighting is unjust and should not be tolerated. When looking at the high number of deaths and fights occurring year round it truly sickens me to think that people could treat an animal like this. To start off, allowing these animals to fight to their death is inhumane and goes against their basic right to life. Animals are sentient beings and deserve moral consideration and by killing these animals and making them fight it is violating all basic rights that they have. Animals are closely related to humans, they have the ability to feel pain and suffering so it is important that these animals receive the same moral considerations that all humans get. The most common injuries that these dogs sustain during these fights include severe bruising, deep puncture wounds and broken bones. Imagine having a deep puncture wound and a broken bone without any pain Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Dog Fighting Dog fighting is one of the most sadistic forms of animal cruelty. These dog fights are forced fights orchestrated by humans, and is often done to make money and for entertainment purposes. The dogs that are used are typically raised in isolation, so they spend most of their lives on short, heavy chains. Some chains weigh about 20 to 40 lbs "That's almost twice the dog's own body weight" (ASPCA). They are regularly conditioned for fighting through the use of drugs, including anabolic steroids to enhance muscle mass and encourage aggressiveness. Dog fights are cruel and wrong, many dogs never recover, and people need to realize what is more important to life. Dog fighting is wrong on many levels. Fighting dogs sometimes may have their ears cropped and tails docked...show more content... Many dog fighting operations have been found out by our humane society's animal cops, but the findings are breathtaking ("Dog Fighting"). Some dogs are found hanging from chains in trees in the backyard of the owner's property. Others are even found buried alive in boxes. It is truly a horrendous sight to see ("ASPCA").Very few dogs are found to be nonaggressive, most are biting at their catch poles as rescuers attempt to remove them. The odds of rescuing nonaggressive dogs are 10 in a 100. Once a dog rescued was a little girl, poor little thing was found tied up in a corner half starved rescuers say she was used for breeding ("ASPCA"). A huge percent of dog fighters have female dogs who the very rarely bring them into fights but rather just use them for breeding. When a female can no longer produce offspring they are either starved or used as bait. Unbelievable numbers of dogs have been rescued but once they are brought up into the fighting environment, it is very rare that they will drop their aggressive behavior that they have cruelly and inhumanely been raised to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Dogfighting And Animal Abuse Essay "Dogfighting is more than just a crime. It's a deep, persistent stain on our national character that, despite being illegal in every state, still disgraces our culture with a shockingly wide diversity of locations, participants and onlookers." – Matt Bershadke, ASPCA President & CEO It is hard to believe that "there are tens of thousands of dog fighters in the U.S., forcing hundreds of thousands of dogs to train, fight, and suffer every year." (2) Dog fighting is a huge part of animal abuse. We generally think of individual people, or families that abuse their dogs, but dog fighting is also a large part of the issue. "The shocking number of animal cruelty cases reported every day is just the tip of the iceberg; most cases are never reported." We need tougher laws against...show more content... The owner will probably do this using crude and painful techniques. These abused dogs will have spent their entire life training while being isolated from any dogs or humans. Only the best fighters get to have quality food and veterinary care. Other dogs are not fed enough and they also do not get the same veterinary care as the good fighters. Dogs are often given illegal and legal drugs to enhance muscle mass and encourage aggressiveness. This can lead to additional crimes for the owner. Most of the time, dog fights are not to the death, but occasionally they are. "Fights can last just a few minutes or several hours, and both animals may suffer injuries including puncture wounds, lacerations, blood loss, crushing injuries and broken bones". If the dog is extremely injured, they might die because of loss of blood. If a dog losses and does not have a winning history, it will be left without care to its injuries. If the dog is an embarrassment to its owner, the owner will kill it in a brutal fashion as part of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Cruel Dog Fighting The Cruel "Sport" of Dog Fighting For animal lovers, it is difficult to understand why someone would cause a dog to engage in vicious fights, inflicting and receiving injuries or often death. Dogfighting is a serious and continuing problem all over the United States. A dogfight takes place in a ring made of plywood and is usually held in a hidden location such as a vacant garage or the basement of a house or business. Fights can last for hours, and the dogs are made to keep going even after having painful injuries such as torn flesh and broken bones. The fight goes on until one of the dogs is unable to continue. Dogs may die immediately of their injuries, sheer exhaustion or later from infections. Dog fighting should be stopped everywhere....show more content... Dogfighting is also part of a criminal subculture that can involve gang activity, illegal gambling, drug use, and drug dealing. Illegal gambling is an inherent part of a dogfight, and because of the large amount of money that changes hands, weapons are common on the scene. Children are often present, and besides the inherent danger of the situation to a child, their witnessing such cruelty has been shown to lead to violence. Most dogs used for fighting are pit bulls, normally known for their courage and energy. Pit Bulls have unfortunately been exploited by breeders running illegal kennels and by trainers who encourage aggression in their animals by various means: exercise to the point of exhaustion, starvation, beating, and harsh punishment. They beat these animals, feed them hot peppers, feed them gunpowder, and lock them in small closets. They do everything they can to make these animals vicious and mean, so the dogs become powerfully strong and aggressive. Many dogs are found dumped with untreated severe injuries or are tortured or hanged after losing fights. During the dog fighting the dogs themselves are not the only animal victims. Smaller animals such as kittens, puppies, and rabbits are killed and used as bait in training Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Animal Cruelty: Dog Fighting Essay Animal Cruelty: Dog Fighting Sherry LaFace COM 220: Research Writing January 23, 2010 Erin Fagan Dog fighting is a very cruel thing, and it is happening right under our noses. It is illegal to fight a dog in all fifty states. By being an observer at a dog fight, it is against the law in forty–seven states. So why do people continue this cruel practice? The answer seems to be money. Some people who breed dogs for fighting can sell their puppies for up to two thousand dollars. Even though fighting dogs is making money, it is cruel since pain is inflicted on the dogs; the ASPCA and the Humane Society are trying to prevent this with proper training. Some people might ask, "What is dog fighting?" The definition of dog...show more content... Once the dogs prove to be ready, they are placed in the pit against larger dogs to test their willingness or determination to face collapse and future defeat. If the dogs pass the test, they are deemed ready to fight. When this happens, they are brought into the arenas after being washed, to make sure they have nothing on their coats that will harm the other dogs. A pitch usually consisting of plywood walls, about twenty feet in diameter with carpet, is where the fight will take place. Inside of the pit there will be an indication of lines, usually marked by masking tape or paint. The animals are brougt to the pitch by their owners. Inside the arena there will be one referee and the two owners of the dogs. On command, the dogs will be released, they smash together like a couple of mac trucks. They look like a wrestling match with teeth, biting one another, trying not to let go of their opponet. The matches can last up to forty–five minutes and end when one dog can no longer fight back because of exhaustion or death. With the horrific thought of dogs being trained to fight and kill, the two top agencies, the ASPCA and the Humane Society, are doing what the can to try to make society aware of the cruelty of dog fighting. There are also the local law enforcement agencies that are doing everything that they can to stop this cruelty to animals by arresting the people that they can catch illegally fighting dogs. • 8. The Ethics Of Dog Fighting Across the world people abuse animals for sport, gambling, and pure exploitation like dog fighting, cock fighting, and breeding dogs just to be able to sell them to places such as shady pet stores and such. Dog fighting is a very lucrative illegal activity that goes largely unpunished these people take poor dogs and inbreed them with their moms, dads, and siblings to be able to create the perfect fighting dog that can make them loads of money. Some other things these groups do include giving them drugs that induce rage and make them even more lethal. • 9. Argumentative Essay On Dog Fighting Over the years many agree that dogs are one of the most loyal companions that people can get their hands upon. They are willing do almost anything for their masters, hunt, cuddle, and even fight other dogs. According to Orhan Yilmaz, dog fighting has been going on for centuries as a past time. When a dog enters a fight, there is almost always one dog getting injured, sometimes it is so bad that the owner of the dog carries it away in a bag to disguise it, just so the police do not see the injured creature. Having dog fights in an area repeatedly will end up attracting more crime even which causes only more trouble. A dog trained for fighting ends up becoming somewhat savage and likely to bite more people, causing injury or even death sometimes and since the animal has...show more content... is in the tens of thousands." (ASPCA) Even though dog fighting is considered a felony in all fifty states, it needs to be tracked more and make the culprits get locked in a cell for what they have done because it harms the dogs that are fighting, it ends up bringing more crime to the area where this takes place, and also makes it dangerous for veterinarians to work on a dog that is now potentially a hazard. Oliver 1 Dog fighting always ends up harming dogs quite severely, leaving permeant marks such as bite or claw marks which make the dog look tainted in the eyes of some, rather an animal that's being used against its will. Dogs for fighting may be born, bought, or even stolen for the sole use of fighting another dog. "Though different breeds are used in dog fighting, the most common breed associated is the American Pit Bull Terrier." (Destreza 281) The dogs used for fighting get very little compassion in their lives, living alone with only one thing being taught to them, to fight all other animals that they see. If a dog tries to escape from a dog fight instead of fighting, the owner normally will end up disposing of the animal. "When a dog is not successful in a fight, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

You probably didn't know this, but these are all examples of animal abuse. Millions of animals are hurt, suffering, and eventually dying because of animal abuse. FBI Now Tracks Animal Abuse Just Like Homicides, Arson and Assault. N.d. N.p. Chapter 1: What is animal abuse? Animal abuse is the harming of an animal on purpose by a human. Some experiments include forcing an animal to be injected with a potentially dangerous substance, letting an animal be exposed to radiation, removing the animal's organs or tissues to cause harm on purpose, making an animal breathe in toxic fumes or gases, and causing feelings of anxiety and depression during frightening processes. Some people say that the information from the animal is more important than the animal's suffering and pain. Animals have a shorter life span, which helps scientists see how it affects them over their lifetime. Animal testing can be very painful for the animal. During an eye test, scientists clamp the eye open and cover the animal in chemicals. Animals are sometimes injured during testing. Only some animals are protected by laws. Although these laws exist, some testers don't follow them. This means that the animals can be abused. Animals that are used are mammals, fish, amphibians, and certain invertebrates like octopus. These animals are the only ones that are defined as an animal by European legislation governing animal experiments. In the USA, mice rats, fish, birds, and amphibians are not defined as an animal under animal experiment regulations. What this means is that animal testers do not need permission to experiment on them. Over 70% of the tests are done without giving the animal any Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Dog Fighting Persuasive Speech Dog fighting Imagine, you are in a cage, your side aches, your ears are torn and bleeding. Cruel faces study you through the the bars. A gruff, high voice asks another "since he lost, will we kill im?" "Maybe, but the boss is the one who will decide, Jerry" a scratchy voice answers in return. A large face with a bulbous nose peers at you. You whimper, trying to signal the pain you are in. The man just laughs, and says "Sorry, you little scamp, if the boss doesn't kill ye, ye going to da pound. A man with a tall frame enters the room, his voice is like sandpaper on rough stone. " Is this the stupid mutt that lost me 1,000 dollars?" His voice is surprisingly calm but with a menacing edge. "Well, mutt, you look in pain, let me do something to ease your suffering." Without another word, he lifts a small black object and with a defining bang, everything goes black. Dog fighting needs to have a harsher punishment because it allows dogs to be trained in horrible circumstances, many dogs end up badly injured, and it organizes an illegal underground betting ring Dog fighting needs to have a harsher punishment because it allows owners to train their dogs in horrible circumstances. In one case in England, there are reports of dogs and owners who come to children's playgrounds to train the dogs to fight. In the article, it said the people make the dogs bite on to the equipment and hang off it to strengthen their bite before the illegal fight. "I find it absolutely astonishing that anyone is stupid enough to train fighting dogs but to do so in children's playground shows quite remarkable levels of idiocy and selfishness. There have been to many reports in the media of young children being seriously injured by dogs so to train a fighting dog in a playground and to condition it to behave violently around play equipment which is used by toddlers is one of the most despicable things that I have heard in a long time." said Chris Bond, the council member for the Enfield council in England. There is also evidence found that dogs are forced to train their jaws by ripping off bark from trees. This is killing trees as well as hurting their jaws. • 12. Dog Fighting Argumentative Essay Sadly, it is estimated that about "16,000 dogs [are] killed each year in organized dog fights and that number continues to grow," according to the stop dog fighting organization. Not to mention, it's also "not unusual to see $20,000–30,000 change hands during a single fight" ("What Is Dog Fighting, and What Can You Do To Stop It?"), but the price to pay is even higher because the penalty if you are caught is a $250,000 fine and three–year imprisonment. Dog fighting is a brutal illegal sport that not only harms the dogs themselves but also the people involved, and can be prevented by spreading awareness and taking action. The unfortunate part about dog fighting is that it is incredibly hard to catch in action. Karen Tiller, a professional dog fight detective, says that she "know it's going on." She says, "[they] see signs of it every day, but you'd have to turn the corner at just the right time to bust a dogfight" (Urban Dog Fighters Tough to Track). My plan is if we can keep as many dogs from getting into the dogfighting business as possible, then we can save many more lives and create a safer world. If you love dogs and want to save a life, you can adopt a dog. By adopting a dog you will be saving it from the horrors of dog fighting because for every dog that's adopted, one less dog is used in dog fights. So, don't let an innocent dog get chained up for the rest of their short lives because that's what the fight dog's owners do. They give the dogs steroids "to enhance muscle mass and encourage aggressiveness," according to ASPCA. Also if you are not interested in the long care needed for adopting a dog, Then share a story about something related to animal abuse that you've seen experienced, or read about because by sharing your story you can get other people involved, and more the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 14. Dog Fighting Research Paper "I choose to fight, but dogs don't. Dog fighting is for cowards don't do it" says famous fighter Shane Mosley. Lots of people don't know what dogfighting is, but I'm very passionate about putting an end to it once and for all. Dog fighting is where big, strong dogs are put together and have to fight and then whoever loses is chained up to something to die. In order to prevent or solve this problem I can help raise awareness, I would volunteer to help rescue fighting dogs, and I can donate necessities to help them take care of the dogs. Raising awareness is very effective. All I have to do is make posters and hang them up and people will see them everyday. I also could speak out. Like having a fundraiser or a meet up with people than I can share to all of them what dog fighting is, and how we can stop it. Another way I can raise awareness is to advertise. I could write a short paper and put it in the newspaper or I could create a website where people could learn more about dog fighting and how to adopt dogs or (a more modern day approach) I could post it on social media, this will surely spread the word. The next step I would take is to volunteer at a shelter. I would go and volunteer at dog shelters...show more content... I would bring in the necessary items that are probably too expensive, like food. Todays prices are so high that some shelters can't afford food, that's why I'd donate that. I also would buy brushes, dog shampoo, flea and tick medicine, etc for their health. Dogs in the shelter normally don't get a lot of that stuff because they can't afford it. But I would always donate that to help. The last thing I would donate are dog bones, dog treats, dog toys, and leashes. Then the dogs will never get bored in their cages and will always be on a leash so they can go for a walk. This is a very important thing to do in order to help victims of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. American Dog Fighting Essay Dog fighting is an inhumane blood sport in which dogs are forced to fight for profit and entertainment.Though it is a felony in all fifty states, it continues to happen all across America. These fights usually take place in a 14–20 square foot pit designed to contain the fighting animals. Both animals can end up with extreme blood loss, broken bones, lacerations, and puncture wounds.Dog fights aren't usually to the death, but the dogs can die later, due to blood loss or the owners anger at the dog losing the fight. If the losing dog has harmed the "status" of its owner, the dog may be brutally executed as part of the "entertainment". These executions include wetting the dog and electrocuting it, drowned, shot, beaten, and even hanged. Dogs who win these fights are force to fight over and over again. These winning dogs are used to breed puppies for profit. Female dogs...show more content... The most popular dog used in American dog fights is the Pit Bull. Because of the Pit Bulls reputation as a fighting dog, many people believe that they are not suitable family companions, especially around children. They believe that fighting is in their genetics, and that they were born for the sole purpose of fighting. This is not true. Any dog can behave in an aggressive way. The way a dog acts depends on how it was raised, how it was treated, what it was surrounded by throughout it's puppyhood. Sadly, most dogs rescued from these fights have to be euthanized because the can not acquiesce with a family lifestyle. 20,000 dogs a week are put down for dog fighting, and 400,000 put down in a year. The dogs in these fights are encouraged to fight to the death. In most cases, the dogs will fight until either they are both exhausted, or one go Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Animal Cruelty: Dog Fighting According to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty), the first humane organization, founded in 1866, in the Western Hemisphere that works to rescue animals from abuse and pass humane laws, the definition of animal cruelty is "acts of violence or neglect perpetrated against animals." This definition is presented in a paper written by Learning To Give, an organization that teaches children to give back, take voluntary citizen action, and engage civilly and presents it through a philanthropist approach. Animal cruelty is an atrocious act that needs to be understood and not undermined. It is easy to push something to the back of our minds and put ourselves in denial when the issue is not right in front of our faces. Many of...show more content... They focus on factory farms, the clothing trade, laboratories, and the entertainment industry (PETA "Human Abuse"). PETA also mentioned a study conducted by Northeastern University and the Massachusetts SPCA, which found that people that abuse animals are five times more likely to commit violent crimes against humans (PETA). If a person loves the feeling of overpowering others, why would they stop with one category? People who enjoy the feeling they get when they're in control will always be power hungry unless they get help; unless they are stopped. The Humane Society estimates that approximately one million animals per year are either abused or killed in relation to a domestic violence situation. From the U.S. Department of Justice (as of 200), there are approximately 2.168 million women and men that are physically assaulted by an intimate partner in the US. The APPMA (American Pet Product Manufacturers Association) estimates that 63% of U.S. households own a pet (Humane Society). The American Humane Association, whom since 1877 has aimed to protect children, pets, and farm animals from abuse and neglect, also gives insight to the correlation between animal cruelty and domestic violence. According to them, 71% of women, who owned pets, entered women's shelters reported that their abuser had either injured, maimed, killed, or threatened the family's pets as an act of revenge or in order to control their victims psychologically. • 17. Dog Fighting: Prison For Life Dog Fighting People involved in dog fighting must be put in prison for life. I believe this because illegally using dogs for personal pleasure is morally wrong. People who kill dogs for their benefit is technically murder, dogs have lives and we should not be able to manipulate them to our advantage. Men and women who murder any type of animal are not human and should not be allowed to live with the earth's community anymore. People need to notice what dog fighting is doing to dogs and other animals. People kill dogs for sport all the time. For example," Pro football player Michael Vick was caught with a whole community of dog fighting arenas."(p 4) This shows that it is happening all over the world and needs to be stopped. • 18. Dog Fighting Research Papers Dog fighting is an insidious underground organized crime that, although completely outlawed, has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. This disgusting 'sport' involves the actual pitting of two dogs against each other in a ring to fight for the entertainment of the spectators. The dogs, usually pitbulls, literally bite and rip the flesh off of one another while the onlookers cheer, scream, and place bets on which dog will win the match. After the fight, both dogs are left critically wounded. Generally, the loser of a match dies or is killed, unless he has any salvage value to his owner. But all in all, dogfighting is pure, unadulterated animal abuse. Why would people even partake in it, and what are the effects on the dogs and the communities which surround them? There are many reasons people are drawn to dog fighting, the most basic being greed. Major dog fight raids have resulted in seizures of more than $500,000. Stud fees and the sale of pups from promising bloodlines can also bring in thousands of dollars. For others, the attraction lies in using the animals as an extension of themselves to fight their battles for them and to demonstrate their strength and prowess.
