Third Grade C lass Newsletter



• This week in class we will be performing
 some mathematic activities to help the
 students better understand how to apply
 mathematic skills in daily living.
Unit Plan
   In class we will start a project. This project will teach the students
    how to apply their mathematic skills in their daily life. The class
    activities will be guided by the following questions:

          Essential Question:
             – How can you use simple addition, subtraction and even division in your
                daily life?
          Unit Questions:
             – How can you mathematically solve word problems using addition,
                subtraction, and division?
             – How can you use addition to check your subtraction work?
          Content Questions:
             – What is 30 divided by 15?
             – If you go to the supermarket to buy groceries and the total amount is
                $155. If you hand the cashier $200, how much money should the
                cashier give you in return?
             – If you have 20 candy canes to give away, and you give all of them to
                10 friends how many will each friend get? Assuming each friend will get
                the same amount.

Role of the Teacher
• I think one of the most important roles of a teacher is to
  be a manager.
• They have to manage the classroom, manage their time, and
  manage different personalities.
• The classroom teacher also has to be able to be innovative
  and able to adapt. Teachers roles in the classroom are
  always changing, so teachers must always be ready to adapt.
• The most important role of the teacher I think is to
  prepare students to move out into the world as a productive
  member of society. Teachers must teach students proper
  manners and appropriate behavior. Teachers must give
  students every opportunity and chance for success.

Benefits of the Unit
   One of the benefits of the this math unit is that
    it will not only teach students mathematic skills,
    but also how to apply these skills.
   Students will be able to use these mathematic
    skills in daily life.
   This unit of mathematics will teach students how
    to problem solve.
   This mathematics unit will teach students how to
    work through difficult situations, not just in math
    but other areas as well.
Standards and objectives of Unit
• One standard for third grade mathematics and
  the study of numbers and operations is to solve
  addition and subtraction problems, including word
  problems, involving two- and three-digit numbers
  with and without regrouping.
     • An obj ective to this math standard is to be able to estimate sums and
       differences by using many options including rounding.
• Another standard for mathematics and the study
  of numbers and operations is dividing whole
  numbers using two-digit dividends and one-digit
  divisors.
     • An objective for this standard is to recognize division as repeated
       subtraction.
Project-Based Learning
Project Based Learning is a form of instructional
learning.
This type of learning gauges the students likes and
interests and teaches them based upon these
interests.
In Project Based Learning students work together
to achieve a common goal.
In this type of learning students usually participate
in group activities in which the students work
together to complete assignments.
This engages students to their own thoughts and
allows them to form their own ideas and opinions.
This type of learning will be used in my classroom
in the use of group projects and group
presentations.

  • 1. Third Grade C lass Newsletter • This week in class we will be performing some mathematic activities to help the students better understand how to apply mathematic skills in daily living.
  • 2. Unit Plan  In class we will start a project. This project will teach the students how to apply their mathematic skills in their daily life. The class activities will be guided by the following questions:  Essential Question: – How can you use simple addition, subtraction and even division in your daily life?  Unit Questions: – How can you mathematically solve word problems using addition, subtraction, and division? – How can you use addition to check your subtraction work?  Content Questions: – What is 30 divided by 15? – If you go to the supermarket to buy groceries and the total amount is $155. If you hand the cashier $200, how much money should the cashier give you in return? – If you have 20 candy canes to give away, and you give all of them to 10 friends how many will each friend get? Assuming each friend will get the same amount.

Benefits of the Unit  One of the benefits of the this math unit is that it will not only teach students mathematic skills, but also how to apply these skills.  Students will be able to use these mathematic skills in daily life.  This unit of mathematics will teach students how to problem solve.  This mathematics unit will teach students how to work through difficult situations, not just in math but other areas as well.
  • 8. Standards and objectives of Unit • One standard for third grade mathematics and the study of numbers and operations is to solve addition and subtraction problems, including word problems, involving two- and three-digit numbers with and without regrouping. • An obj ective to this math standard is to be able to estimate sums and differences by using many options including rounding. • Another standard for mathematics and the study of numbers and operations is dividing whole numbers using two-digit dividends and one-digit divisors. • An objective for this standard is to recognize division as repeated subtraction.
  • 9. Project-Based Learning Project Based Learning is a form of instructional learning. This type of learning gauges the students likes and interests and teaches them based upon these interests. In Project Based Learning students work together to achieve a common goal. In this type of learning students usually participate in group activities in which the students work together to complete assignments. This engages students to their own thoughts and allows them to form their own ideas and opinions. This type of learning will be used in my classroom in the use of group projects and group presentations.
