Roman Temple Research Paper
This was the great temple on the Capitolium, one of the two peaks of the Capitoline Hill. It was
dedicated the Capitoline Triad, Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. Tarquinius Priscus vowed this temple, but
tradition states that a large part of the work was done by Tarquinius Superbus. With his overthrow in
509 B.C., the first consul of the new Republic dedicated it on September 13. Here on each January 1
the new consuls took office in a colorful ceremony. Each month on the Ides, a white sheep was
sacrificed to Jupiter. On the special Ides of September–the temple's annual festival–there was a great
banquet for the people of Rome in which the statues of the three gods participated. It was prone to
disaster, burning down in 83 B.C., A.D. 69, and 80. The last rebuilding occurred under Domitian.
Impressive remains of the temple can be seen today in and around the ... Show more content on

Its columns were cut from Pentelic marble and were originally of beautiful proportions, in Athens.
When they were shaped and polished in Rome, however, they didn't gain as much in smoothness as
they lost in symmetry and beauty, and now appear too thin and meager.
In all of Roman history since the founding of the city, the burning of the Capitoine in the fighting
between Vitellians and Flavians [in AD 69] was the most distressing and disgraeful event that ever
befell the republic of the Roman people. Not by any external enemy, but with the gods kindly
disposed (if that were possible, given our behavior!), the very seat of Jupiter Optimus Maximus,
which was founded with good omen by our ancestors as our guarante of empire, and which neither
Porsenna, when the city had been surrendered, nor the Gauls when it had been captured, were able
to descrate, was now destroyed by the madness of our

Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Man vs. Wild
Nature is an integral part of our lives that often isn't taken seriously. Many people, commonly big
companies, destroy nature to gain status and profit. This has been going on since humans came to
be. In the novel Lord of the Flies, this is a prominent theme. In the book, many British schoolboys
are stranded on an island after a plane crash. Immediately, roles are developed. Jack is a power–
hungry choir boy who disrespects nearly everything– especially nature. Ralph is the leader of the
group, a strong, well–built boy. Simon is an outcast. He is often analyzed as a Jesus–like figure and
he is truly kind. During the novel, Jack is constantly disrespecting nature; he is always killing
animals and destroying plants. Simon is very harmonious with it, he doesn't harm anything he
doesn't have to. Ralph changes his attitude due to whom he's with, as he is much more destructive
when he is with Jack, and is kinder when with Simon. As the novel progresses, so does the severity
of their traits. This theme develops at the same rate as many of the other relevant themes in the book
such as 'civilization vs. savagery', 'loss of innocence', and 'the nature of good vs. evil'. William
Golding's work, Lord of the Flies, develops a foil triad between Jack, Ralph, and Simon around the
concept of 'man vs. nature'. Jack is the savage force on the island; he is cruel, rude, and controlling.
Jack is the malicious side of the triad. He sees nature as something in the way, a thing to be

Reflection Paper On Therapy
Self–Assessment: Therapist For my MFT 507class, I was in a group with Elizabeth and Jaime. We
did a vignette to practice what we have learned in class and imply it in the therapy session. We
switched roles and always treated each other with kindness and respect. I will refer Jaime as Debby,
so there will not be any confusion.
Impressions
I learned many things with the vignette we did in class. Active listening is important be–cause it
helped Debby see that I was listening and just focusing on her. Also, it gave me the op–portunity to
clarify any misunderstanding. The assessment helped me to think critically and find out the reason
why Debby came to therapy. When I was watching the video, I was impressed how easily Debby
and I build a bond. I had the same name as her daughter and that made her feel comfortable. My
strength regarding this vignette was how calmly I talked to Debby. I am able to use verbal and
nonverbal behavior. For example, I used "ummm" to agree with Debbie, so she can see that I am on
the same track as her. This experience makes me see this is the career I want to pursuit. The role
playing as a therapist and having a senior citizen client open my mind and see that each person are
different that have different problems. I asked Debby why she thought that everyone hates her. She
just said that everyone did and no one like her. This question was unanswered because there was not
actual evidence of what she told me. Debby was part of a senior

Pompeii As A Roman Town?
What does the evidence about religious spaces tell us about
Pompeii as a Roman town?
In many societies religion has played a major role in their development, and the Roman Empire was
no different (Roman Religion, Definition by Donald L. Wasson published on 13 November 2013).
Michael Grant summarises Roman Religion for us when he says;" Roman religion was largely
concerned with ritual, not faith or belief. The Romans did not have a personal relationship with their
Gods nor did their religion offer them doctrine or an explanation of the World. They were
Polytheistic; they worshipped many Gods" (Cities of Vesuvius: Pompeii and Herculaneum 2001,
Michael Grant, pg.56). Within this paper my aim will be to show how Pompeii's religious spaces
compared to that of other Roman Towns, from the Roman Colonisation of Pompeii era onwards. I
will identify some of these religious spaces and evaluate their purpose within Pompeian society. I
will also identify how these spaces impacted upon the daily life of the Pompeian's and how they
contributed to the new Identify and establishment of Pompeii as a new Roman Colony.
Temple of Jupiter (Capitolium)
The Temple of Jupiter was built in approximately 150BC, within the Pompeii forum, while Pompeii
was inhabited mainly by Oscan's under the rule/doctrine of the Roman Empire. The Pompeii forum
was the economic, religious and political centre of Pompeii and the position of the Temple of Jupiter
within this Forum was significant. The Temple stood on

Essay on The Three Elements of the Female Athlete Triad
The Three Elements of the Female Athlete Triad
For an increasing number of women in the United States, a concern or preoccupation with body
weight and size is a constant pressure. Female athletes, like most women in our society, are also
often pressured to conform to certain ideal body sizes and shapes, as dictated by the entertainment
and fashion industries. Female athletes, however, face a twofold pressure. They face the burden that
our culture places on all women to be thin, but they also face the burden from coaches, parents, and
other athletes to succeed in sports and look good doing so by maintaining an unrealistically low
weight. When weight gain means removal from a team or elimination from competition, many
female athletes turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This term refers to a wide range of abnormal behaviors, the extremes of which are anorexia nervosa
and bulimia nervosa, but also includes limiting caloric intake, skipping meals, using diet pills, and
many other pathogenic weight control behaviors. Having stated these limitations, there are a number
of studies which do in fact indicate that female athletes struggle more with eating disorders than
average females. Studies report that the rate of disordered eating among female athletes may be as
high as 62% in certain sports (Yeager, Agostini, Nattiv, and Drinkwater, 1993). While a study of
college female swimmers found 15.4% were affected, a study of college gymnasts showed that 62%
of collegiate female athletes had seriously abnormal eating patterns. Smith (1996) found that
disordered eating is most common among those in appearance sports, such as gymnastics, ballet,
figure skating, equestrian sports, and diving. However, disordered eating behavior can be seen in
other sports in which appearance is not as important, such as tennis, swimming, and running.
Skolnick (1993) also notes that another study of 182 female athletes, who participated in a variety of
college sports, found that 32% showed disordered eating patterns. Margot Putukian, MD (1998)
reports in Clinics in Sports Medicine that a study of college athletes found 32% practiced some form
of pathogenic weight control behavior, and 70% believed their behavior was harmless.

The Characteristics Of Being A Jerk
Jerks; regardless of upbringings, current conditions, or social status, when one is confronted with the
idea of a jerk, certain people or behaviors may swiftly come to mind. When the concept of a person
like Dale, who disregards the needs of others and does not practice courtesy, arises, it is quite
evident that he is a jerk, and therefore, a considerably unjust being. Based on both the historical
analyses of Polemarchus or Thrasymachus and the current standards elaborated upon by scholars
such as Eric Schwitzgabel, Dale could undeniably be deemed a jerk. "Jerks see the world through
goggles that dim others' humanity.", states Eric Schwitzgabel, in his article How to Tell If You're a
Jerk (Schwitzgabel). Schwitzgabel states that with respect to scientifically recognized categories of
personality, the "jerk" is very similar to that of "the dark triad"; the dark triad consists of narcissism,
Machiavellianism, and psychopathic tendencies (Schwitzgabel). Regardless, there are still many
traits of being a jerk that cannot be seen in "the dark triad" (Schwitzgabel). Narcissism may regard
themselves as more important than the people that surround them, but could also, unlike a jerk,
strive to be the center of attention; Machiavellians believe that other people are tools to be exploited
for personal gain, but in doing so are conscious to their cynicism rather than ignorant; psychopaths
are often selfish and callous, with a tendency to engage in impulsive risk–taking, but jerks

The Forum Pompeii
The Forum Historians consider the Forum to be the 'centre of Pompeian life' therefore it is an
important aspect to study as numerous buildings and many events occurred there. From the latest
evidence, it is believed that the Pompeian Forum was undergoing a 'comprehensive, vigorous and
ambitious post–earthquake restoration.' (Bradley. 2005, p.87). The Forum at Herculaneum, however,
is still buried under the town of Resina and therefore there is not enough physical evidence to
provide a great depth of information. Studies were concentrated on the Forum at Pompeii. The
Forum dates back to the 2nd century BCE. It underwent numerous alterations during the city's
history and at the time of the eruption was in the process of receiving an ... Show more content on

damaged in the 62AD earthquake. It was described in Pompeii: The Vanished City (1992, p60) as
being 'turned into a workshop, with uncut blocks of basalt and stonecutting tools, and other building
supplies stored there.' However in the last decade, as noted in Pamela Bradley's book, it had been
repaired and in working order when the eruption occurred. The Sanctuary of the Public Lares was
located in the North–East of the Forum in Pompeii. The Lares Publici were the protectors of the
crossroads (compita). Historians argue whether the building was either commenced after the
earthquake of 62 AD or almost fully reconstructed as a dedication to the tutelary gods of Pompeii
due to the recent misfortune. The architecture was quite unusual showing changing designs. The
temple had no roof and had a floor with coloured marble arranged in a geometric pattern. It had no
wall on the Forum side that left it entirely open. It could be entered through a portico adjoining the
colonnade of the Forum. On entering the temple there was two alcoves where statues of the Lares
would most likely have stood. Remains show a centred altar. The rear wall reveals a niche where
statues of the town's gods would have been positioned. The Temple of Vespasian was located in the

How Did Rome Have Faith How Will People Live In Such...
Rome Galiya Bar–Tal Rome was one the greatest empire of all times. Rome was ahead of her time
and is responsible for a big part of modern civilization. It's hard to imagine that it all began on top of
a few hills. I debated a lot. There are so many interesting topics. But I decided to write about
mythology. I decided to research this topic because I was very curious about the beliefs of the
Romans. They won so many battles and lost some, but something surely kept their spirit. But what is
it that gives people hope that gives them strength and a safety net: Beliefs, faith. If there was no
faith how will people live in such difficult times? The Romans did have faith. They believed in
gods. In fact, they went to battle depended on the god's favour. Romans looked to the gods
whenever they had an important decision to make. Thunder, lightning and the behavior of the birds
were studied by augurs, who looked for signs from the gods, which would tell them the future. ...

Rush Hour Two: Through an American Perspective
Rush Hour 2: Through an American Lens Filmic comedies are often genres that are overlooked in
regards to the level of seriousness that they bring. Due to the levity of the content itself, comedies
have much more freedom to deviate from the contextual restraints, imposed by society itself, other
film genres must respect. Contextual constraints, such as, racial stereotypes, gender connotations,
and cultural references, are components that comedies use in order to achieve humor at its maximum
effect. The override of these constraints, however, has detrimental effects on entire ethnic and
gender populations that go unnoticed at the expense of laughter. The 2001 film comedy, Rush Hour
2, uses humor as a vehicle to propagate active stereotypes that render the Asian female as an
objective commodity that through an American lens devalues Asian culture and emasculates Asian
men as a result. Before one can examine the methodology of ethnic and gender portrayals displayed
in the film, one must first understand the context in which it was made. Directed by American
director Brett Ratner, the sequel to the popularized film Rush Hour was written by American
screenwriter Ross LaManna. This is an important notion to consider because it presents an
immediate bias as to the accuracy of ethnic representations that are conveyed in the film. The
partnership of Jackie Chan's character Lee and Chris Tucker's character Carter, may seem as a
progressive leap into
Lopez 2 equal representation

Female Athlete Repercussion
How many times have we all sat glued to our televisions during the summer or winter Olympics,
admiring the young female athletes competing in such sports as gymnastics, swimming, track, and
ice–skating? Behind those beautiful, slim bodies a serious condition may be lurking, one that is not a
popular topic of discussion among many coaches and even overly ambitious parents. Nowadays,
girls at a very young age are becoming more and more involved in competitive sports that require
intense workout regimes. Coaches are more frequently telling these young ladies that they need to
"lose that ugly fat" and "do whatever it takes" to maintain a low body weight. Even society praises
extremely thin and fit bodies. Just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three components of the triad are eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, lack of
menstruation (also known as secondary amenorrhea) due to low estrogen production, and
osteoporosis, or thinning of the bones. The specific component of the triad syndrome I am focusing
on is amenorrhea. It is a condition that is associated with reductions in heart, reproductive, and bone
health. It can be classified as either late onset of menstruation or loss of menses for at least three
months. The first symptom of the triad generally begins with an eating disorder, a very serious and
widespread problem among young female athletes. If left untreated, anorexia or bulimia can lead to
amenorrhea.
Amenorrhea is a condition of which I have first–hand knowledge. As a former gymnastic competitor
and a current teacher in our family–owned gym, I have seen the effects that strenuous exercise and
low calorie intake can have on a young, fragile body. Any girl or young woman who competes in
sports such as gymnastics, ice–skating, dance, or running is especially vulnerable. Sometimes the
very traits that make her successful –competitiveness, stubbornness and perfectionism – also make
her more susceptible to amenorrhea. She will do anything to run a little faster or perform a little
better, while maintaining low body weight so that she will look perfect doing it. But being under
such intense pressure to

The Piedmont Triad Regional Council (PTRC): Case Study

income, elderly, and disabled homeowners and renters. WAP is primarily administered through
Council of Governments, like PTRC, or by non–profit agencies. The WAP program at PTRC serves

However E. Constantinides (2006), suggests that this basic marketing strategy is more product
focused rather than customer focused, therefore inadequate to use in situation like that of PTRC
WAP's more service focused product. Constantindines further suggests that the main issues with the
"4 Ps" are lack of customer orientation, consumer interactivity, and strategic elements. These
suggested issues are direct components that are often used in PTRC WAP's daily practices.
Customer orientation ensures that clients understand the service being offered and why it something
they want to use. Consumer Interactivity allows the client to have more control and increased
communication during the weatherization process. For example, customers are permitted to decline
services if they do not want them completed at their house, but it is also equally important for them
to understand why the service is being recommended. It may be that the "4 Ps" need to be looked at
in a different way when being applied to public sector marketing. Product may be better represented
by a service, such as weatherizing a home. Price may be better represented by the funding source, in
this case a federal grant. Place, better represented by the delivery of the service. Weatherization
comes to the home with all materials in a 2–3 day time–span. Finally, promotion stays much the
same, but instead of advertising a product and price, a service is being advertised (Chew &
Vinestock, 2012). For service marketing there is an expansion to 7 Ps, with the addition of people,
physical evidence, and process (Chew & Vinestock, 2012). These additions to the marketing model
are an excellent way for PTRC WAP to better reach clients. People is the intake, energy auditors,
and crew that have their feet on the ground doing work. Their attitude and actions can provide a

The Triad : Chinese Gangs
The Triad: Chinese Gangs
Triads are a system of organized crime gangs that are closely knit and very often family run.
Referred to as the Chinese Mafia, Triads are active in numerous countries including China, Taiwan,
Southeast parts of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and many Chinatown scattered throughout
the United States (Huston, 2001). Believed to have in excess of 250,000 members, Chinese Triads
are one of the most expansive crime organizations in the world (Booth, 2000). While the term
"Triad" is relatively modern, its use comes from the triangle markings that are used on banners and
flags by the Hung clan. The Hung clan is largely considered to be the start of all things Triad.
Origins
The origins of Triad gangs can be traced back to 1000 B.C. in a centuries old secret society. In this
time period, peasants, often preyed upon by dynasty leaders, attempted to protect themselves by
forming various self–help groups. According to legend, Chinese monks, bent on fighting injustice,
formed an extremely powerful political group who were able to bring down Chinese emperors who
were considered "evil" (Booth, 2000).
Most of the current research dates out of the late 18th Century Hung Society where groups of
society would help foreign traders smuggle large amounts of opium throughout China. By the turn
of the 19th Century, secret societies were mounting an opposition in response to the harsh rules of
the Manchu Qing dynasty, who were regarded heavily as barbaric outsiders

How Does Jackson Use Symbols In The Lottery
Jackson employs the use of symbolism in many of her characters surnames throughout "The
Lottery" to promote her theme. Of these many symbols, and arguably the most deeply hidden and
relevant, is the symbolism of the Martin characters. The youngest Martin, Bobby, is a leader among
the village youth, as witnessed by "the other boys following his example" (Jackson). Compared to
the other children, the narrator places great emphasis upon Bobby Martin by mentioning the
character four times, indicating that the Jackson desires to draw her reader's attention towards the
boy for analysis. The surname Martin is Latin for "Martinus, a derivative of Mars, the Roman god of
fertility and war" (Hanks). According to Roman mythology, Mars, "the son of Jupiter and Juno,"
was a chthonic god, and as such he morphed from "a god of growth in nature" to "a god of death,"
symbolizing that, with time, changes are often imminent (Lindemans). ... Show more content on

Martin, in spite of the hesitation from other villagers, "held the black box securely on the [three–

resided in a "temple on the Capitol together with Juno and Minerva, but he was the most prominent
of this Capitoline triad," this particular temple "was also the center of political life" and the location
where "official offerings were made" because "the Romans worshipped" him (Lindemans). In

Developing Self-Awareness Is a Requirement for All...
Developing self–awareness as a counsellor is considered "central to many of the mainstream
theoretical approaches" (Mcleod, 2009, p624). I will argue that without the development of self–
awareness neither a trainee nor qualified counsellor can meet the core conditions set out in most
theoretical approaches to counselling, congruence, empathy and unconditional positive regard. I will
also argue that counselling trainees need to experience the role of client themselves before they can
take others on the same road to self discovery. To answer the benefits and difficulties of the

Sanders (2011) argues that "By talking about ourselves as honestly as we can in a safe environment
and listening to the feedback from others, we can check whether the view we have of ourselves is
the one received by others" (Sanders, 2011, p61). Feedback not only raises our awareness to what
we say but, and perhaps more importantly, how we say it – our non–verbal communication. The
influence of non–verbal communication on a clients view of their counsellor can be taught, but I
was amazed at just how unaware I was of my own body language. During my first few triads I could
not control my hands, eventually opting to sit on them which was perceived as uncomfortable and a
result of my nervousness. "Receiving feedback gives us a chance to change and modify in order to
communicate more effectively" (Tolan & Lendrum, 1995, p30) and creates awareness of the
importance of effective communication when building a genuine relationship with your client.
Receiving feedback can also raise our awareness of the value of receiving genuine feedback itself,
as well as a need to sensitively communicate feedback to others. This also creates a greater sense of
empathy toward others. Triads also enable the trainee to receive feedback from a variety of different

Female Athlete Triad : A Condition
Bailey Jensen Mrs. Hable College Prep Writing 11 September 2015 Female Athlete Triad Female
athlete triad is a condition where bone loss, irregular menstrual cycles, and energy deficiency occur
in athletes. Occasionally referred to as the triad, this condition is seen mostly in female athletes,
although in rare cases male athletes can suffer from it as well. It occurs so often in today 's female
athletes however, due to distorted body expectations, common menstrual irregularities, and the
already lower bone densities of women. When these symptoms combine, it creates a very serious
and life–long health risk. Femaleathletetriad.org states that one of the causes is weakened bones,
which, in the most severe form, is known as osteoporosis. This state of weakened bones leads to an
increased risk for injury, especially when it comes to stress fractures (femaleathletetriad.org). Many
runners get stress fractures in their shins, located on the most forward side of the calves. Stress
fractures originate mainly from over exercising with not enough recovery, not eating properly
balanced meals, or from a mixture of the two. I can personally advocate for this, as a few years ago
on my own cross country team a sophomore girl cut meat and milk out of her diet while continuing
to do the very demanding varsity practices. Because she lacked the protein and calcium to fuel her
muscle and bones, she developed a very bad case of shin splints, making it nearly impossible to run

The City Of Pompeii And Pompeii
In ancient Pompeii, there were many important establishments in the Forum. It was seen as the
primal hub of the town, and due to the busy trading nature, a commercial centre for exchanging
foreign goods was a necessity. However in Herculaneum, being a quiet fishing village, the structure
of the Forum would have been very different to that of Pompeii. Most of the Italian municipalities in
their time had a Forum, a square in their town where the political, commercial, and social lives are
all intertwined. Not only did it act as a social meeting place for the residents, but it also functioned
as the primary religious and economic sector of the city. In Pompeii the Forum was a large area
measuring at around 157 by 38 metres, not including all the surrounding buildings (Unfortunately in
Herculaneum, the forum is still uncovered). The Forum was lined with the most important buildings
in the city. (See figure 1) In Pompeii particularly, the forum held the Municipal offices (A), Basilica
(B), Temple of Apollo (C), Forum Olitorium (vegetable market) (C), Latrines (public toilets) (D),
Temple of Jupiter (E), Macellum (marketplace) (F), Temple of the Lares (G), Temple of Vespasian
(I), Building of Eumanchia (J), and a Comitium (voting house) (K). On the western side of the
forum, there is a pedestal, built for outspoken orators. This served as a location where people could

Therefore, according to the article, researchers began to expand their understanding of sexual

Therefore, two studies were conducted that connected the personality traits of The Dark Triad such

The second study was similar to the first study result; however, it also revealed how Dark Triad

Spiritual Reflection
I have been into the practicum for over a month now. It is beneficial for me to reflect on my learning
and practice in the past few weeks in the areas of class reading and teaching, triads, meeting with
directees in sessions and supervision. My class reading and teaching in the last few weeks provide
me with a solid idea about spiritual direction. My understanding is that in the spiritual direction
session, the director is to listen to on an ongoing conversation between the directee and God. The
Holy Spirit has already been working in the life of directee before the session and will continue to
be at work after the session is over. The emphasis of spiritual direction will be to enhance the
relationship between the directee and God. In a spiritual direction session, typical questions asked
are "Where is God in this?" or "Where has God gone and why don't I sense any divine presence at
all?" I learn to know that "spiritual direction arises out of inviting and listening to God." One thing I
am in tension with myself and need to be reminded constantly is that I should not have the attitude
or expectation to resolve the issue mentioned in the session. The focus of the session should be
about what goes on between the directee and God. The triad experiences help me to put my learning
into practice and they build my confidence in carrying out sessions. Those questions raised in the
triads on reflecting the experience of spiritual direction help me to be aware of my

Counselling Skills
Evaluate and monitor self in using a counselling approach.
People who experience troubles can receive help for their problems in both formal and informal
ways. An informal helping relationship can be as simple as a chat with a friend while offering advice
and support. The counselling approach differs considerably form formal counselling which this
essay will discuss.
An informal helping relationship may involve counselling skills such as displaying good eye contact
and body language, listening, summarising and paraphrasing but this does not in any way mean they
are a trained counsellor. Formal counselling will involve the counsellor, who is formally trained, and
the client where the sole purpose of the meeting is counselling. The ... Show more content on

This is in keeping with the codes of practice which are in place to ensure the safety of the client and

the importance in having these guidelines in place. A client is more inclined to feel free to talk when
they know that what they say will not be disclosed and this should encourage a safe feeling for
them. At the start of the course a working agreement was decided and agreed by the class. This
agreement stated that we should respect and be respected, have the right to be supported, the right to
have fun and most importantly confidentiality. This allowed the class to feel safe to disclose
information that may be of a personal nature. I think that this agreement has been followed and I do
feel safer knowing it is in place especially during the triad exercises.
Many helping relationships occur in everyday life and this course has allowed me to understand the
difference between formal counselling and a counselling approach. I think I have become more self
aware and realise that I am slightly guarded, especially with certain people in my life. The triad
exercises made me quite anxious initially but feel as I gain more experience I am becoming more
comfortable during the sessions. The feedback I have received has been helpful and I do try to

Case Analysis Of SWAAirlines
1. SWA's Competitive Strategies and Execution
Cost Leadership: Under low cost leadership strategy, SWA emphasize on low–cost fares offer. SWA
has tried to price the same fares within a state–a method to strengthen its position as low–cost leader
in airline industries. This strategy can be achieved through simplifying their fare system by less
relying on artificial intelligence and eliminates unnecessary costs. Another step to keep the fares
low, SWA only provides snacks on flights instead of costly meals service. Not only that, SWA
eliminates unnecessary cost in various methods, such as reusing passengers boarding pass and
eliminating intermediaries' costs (i.e. travel agents). Moreover, SWA is equipped with exceptionally
productive work force to support this strategy. For instance, the pilots and flight attendants even go
as far to help cleaning aircraft and checking in passengers at the gate.
Differentiation: SWA make a great distinction by delivering outstanding services to their customers.
To actualize this, SWA is extraordinarily selective for recruitment. SWA recruits applicants that
demonstrate SWA spirit, which is positive attitude and teamwork; usually recruitment is through
peer recruiting or interview. Adding to that, new–recruited employee will be required to undergo
comprehensive training. This extensive recruitment resulting each of ... Show more content on

Chinese Triads Research Paper
Threat: Chinese Triads pose threats to U.S. national security in relation to drug and human
trafficking. In the United States, these groups are active in most metropolitan areas that have a large
Chinese population, and typically keep their activities limited to those areas. Within these areas they
are often responsible for heroin and methamphetamine trafficking, human trafficking and
intimidation/protection practices. While documented triad activity in the United States reached a
peak in the 1990s, it is not clear if activity has truly been curbed or if the nature of privacy within
the Chinese subculture is preventing the threat from being properly documented. Although Triads
are active within the United States, their involvement in allied states poses an additional threat to
U.S. security and its interests.
Background: The history of Chinese Triads within the United States is closely linked with the
history of Chinese and Hong Kong based triads. The original Chinese Triad formed during the 17th
century, and wanted to overthrow the Qing dynasty and bring back the Ming dynasty. However, by

Dale A Jerk Analysis
Dale is a human being, like anyone else. However, he's a bit different from others. He's the kind of
person that cuts in line or the kind that vents his tantrum to his partner. We call these people: jerks.
So is Dale a jerk? A jerk is an individual that is foolish, naive, egotistical, as well as unjust. Here I'll
be explaining the views of Schwitzgebel, Polemarchus, and Thrasymachus of being a jerk.
Schwitzgebel defines a jerk as being "ignorant of their self–serving tendencies." An example of this
is parking in two spots in a lot, disregarding other people's need to park as well. A jerk would not
know that their selfish actions would affect others, therefore they do not know that they are a jerk
themselves. Not only do they lack attention to other's well–being, they also tend to view other's in a
negative light. As Schwitzgebel said, "Jerks see the world through goggles that dim others'
humanity." "Surrounded by fools, creeps, stuck–up snobs, smug assholes, and, of course, jerks,"
Schwitzgebel associates this view as a jerk's view; as most of the world do not see people
negatively. Thus, Dale's lashing out on his partner and his glares at his neighbors ... Show more

Polemarchus speaks of justice in The Republic as "someone who helps a friend and does harm to
those who are their enemies, including giving everyone their due" (p. 711). Socrates does refute that
"it is never right to harm anyone," (p. 713) and it's unjust to "render whatever is due to enemies" (p,
711) if they mean to do harm –– meaning to give back ownership of something a person had, letting
them harm another in the process. As a result, maltreatment and being rude is unjust. For that
reason, being a jerk is unjust as a jerk qualifies as being a rude, self–absorbed individual. Dale fits
this description perfectly since he shows many signs of his disregard of others' well–being such as
taking out his anger onto his partner –– a sign of not helping a

Violence in the Athletic World
HHPR 878–99 We can pretend that sports are not the main source of entertainment in today's
society. Whether we are athletes playing the sport, avid fans watching our teams and their statistics,
or the coaches, it is our character to always be in tuned to what is going on in the competitive sports
world. Now, our competitive nature can either give us an edge in life or, in opposition, can cause us
to burn bridges. To elaborate, being competitive shows determination, hard work, and is a form of
utilizing our gifted talents, resulting in positive outcomes; this is referring to anything in life, not
just athletics. On the other hand, being competitive to the point that we are losing teammates,
friends, and those close to us shows poor sportsmanship and can have a negative effect on character.
Physical violence is just one among the many different types of violence in today's athletic world.
Some of the more common non–physical abuses among both male and female athletes are substance
abuse, eating disorders, and verbal abuse/emotional stress. Although these are not physical, they
have the potential to eventually lead to physical violence and injuries. We all have heard numerous
theories of steroid and substance abuse. It can cause not only physical changes to the body, but can
also cause emotional and psychological alterations, including aggressive behavior that is not easily
controlled. The use of performance enhancing drugs is not a recent conflict; it has been talked of

Tartarus. Jupiter also had three sisters, Vesta, Juno and Ceres. He is the husband to his sister Juno,

Sacred Days
The Nundinae, which recurred every nine days, was special to Jupiter, as on this day, the high
priestess of Jupiter, would sacrifice a white ram to Jupiter. It was also the day that rural people
would come into town to sell, and be informed of religious and political decisions.
The Ides, which is the midpoint of the month, with a full moon, was sacred to Jupiter. This was
because the Romans believed that the full moon was a heavenly light, representing Jupiter's
presence. On the Ides, a white lamb was led to the Capitoline Citadel, and was sacrificed to him.
Festivals
Jupiter also had the most festivals, and public holidays, dedicated to him than any other deity. These
include:
The "Vinalia altera", on August 19th. This was the day that people asked Jupiter for good weather to
ripen the grapes before harvest, and a white sheep would be sacrificed. The high priestess of Jupiter
would also pick the first grape of the harvest.
The "Vinalia urbana", on April 23rd. This was the day in which new wine was offered to Jupiter.
This was done by pouring large amounts of fine wine, into a ditch near the Temple of Venus
Erycine, located on the Capitol.
The "Metitrinalia" on October 11th. This day marked the end of the annual grape harvest. It is the
day in which new wine was pressed, and mixed with old wine to control fermentation. Initially this
festival was sacred to Jupiter, but later Roman sources invented a new God, Meditrina, to explain

The Scene I Of Act IIi
Throughout the evolution of a theme and seven variations as well as a two–part fugue, Berg explores
the possibilities of various numeric significances and an ever evolving harmonic and melodic
vocabulary. By presenting the audience with a familiar formal structure Berg is then free to more
openly manipulate and change other variables such as using non–functional harmonies and
unresolved melodic passages. He combines both dramatic and musical foreshadowing to create a
visual and aural experience for the listener that is while always being conscious with what would be
too overwhelming to the audience. Berg creates an opera ripe with symbolism and significance. The
introspective Scene I of Act III is no exception. The scene opens with Marie in her continued
struggle through life, attempting to find solace in her bible. The audience is presented with her
frantic behavior in this scene and further observes how the plot will finally unfold, a sad and
unfortunate end. Musically, Berg paints this surrealism wonderfully, and through his recurring
methods and musical vocabulary, ties the scene together. Following two bars of silence, the scene
opens with a descending fourth figure that gradually evolves into an ascending third figure in m.6.
The four opening notes of the scene, G–D–F–Eb, form a 0146, which is an all interval tetrachord.

Characteristics Of A Dyad Relationships
The characteristics and dynamics of a group is specific and changes in correlation with the size of a
group. A group is more than one person that unite to meet similar goals and needs. Georg Simmel, a
German sociologist, refers to a "group of two individuals as a dyad, and a group of three people as a
triad." (Kendall 144). For instance, a married couple is a dyad group, and as the dyad relationship
evolves the group shifts to a triad when a child is born. As the group size increases or decreases the
dynamics, characteristics, and relationships change, accordingly.
Two individuals uniting as a married couple, a dyad, are associated with similar characteristics and
dynamics. While one married couple may have different goals or needs when compared to another
married couple, the overall characteristics are shared among majority of married couples.
Individuals unite with another individual because they share similar needs and goals in life. As an
example, an individual whom desires a life of marriage, a successful career, the purchasing of a
home, and a goal to build a family. Upon meeting another individual with these similar goals in life
may decide to tie the knot to form a dyad group. These two individuals carry on life working
together as a team to support one another and successfully fulfill these similar goals in life. "A dyad
is an intense bond, and acquires unification between the two individuals." (Kendall 144). It is
essential that both individuals continue to work

The female athlete triad is a health condition in which active women experience three inter–related
disorders due to unhealthy body weight and eating habits. In the case of the triad, the word active
refers to females who display moderate to high intensity levels of performance. The rate of
performance must be high in order to counterbalance the decrease in calorie intake. Females who
perform at a high intensity are at risk for the triad since they do not take in enough calories to fulfill
the amount expended. The three disorders within the female athlete triad are osteoporosis,

Low bone mineral density can result in stress fractures within a female's body (6). Female athletes
with menstrual dysfunction often display low levels of the reproductive hormones estrogen and
progesterone. When the levels of these hormones are low, it is difficult for bones to retain calcium
which causes a gradual loss of bone mass. It has been proven that when comparing amenorrhic
athletes to athletes with regular menstrual cycles, the bone mineral density if reduced by 14% in
amenorrhic athletes and 27% in regular athletic women (7). All three conditions result in serious
health and body conditions which can decrease a female's ability to participate in physical activities.
The female athlete triad is considered to be a significant health concern. In relation to the female
athlete triad, some women are more prone to the condition than others. Sports that emphasize
performance based on weight specifications increase the prevalence of the female athlete triad.
Women who participate in sports such as ballet, figure skating, gymnastics, diving, and other
aesthetic component sports have a higher risk of developing aspects of the female athlete triad in
addition to women who participate in sports that involve weight classes such as tae kwon do, judo,

Difference in Social Relations Between City Dwellers and...
Why are the social relations between urban and rural areas so different and what causes these
differences to occur? This question is what I am going to be arguing. I will be doing this not only
through my opinions and ideas, but also through the works of Georg Simmel, Louis Wirth and
Ernest Burgess. All three of these urban scholars add a slightly different view of urbanism as a way
of life.
Georg Simmel's interpretation of interpersonal social relations in the city is one based on the
stimulus a person comes in contact with. Simmel writes this in his essay, "The Metropolis and
Mental Life." He clearly states, "The intensification of emotional life due to the swift and
continuous shift of external and internal stimuli." (Blackwell, ... Show more content on

Simmel's work overlaps with that of Louis Wirth. Most notably their work overlaps in the struggle
to define the social relationships that are made in urban societies to those that are made in rural
communities. Wirth conveys this message in his work called, "Urbanism as a Way of Life." Wirth
writes, "The superficiality, the anonymity, and the transitory character of urban–social relations
make intelligible, also, the sophistication and the rationality generally ascribed to city dwellers."
(Metropolis, 68) Both Wirth and Simmel are aware that the social relationships of city dwellers are
ones based on intelligence and rationality and are removed of emotion. However, with Wirth, I
would like to focus on his idea that a city is not only high in population, but it is also high density
and high heterogeneity and how these things play a role in the social relationships of rural and urban
communities.
First, I would like to look at the competition levels between city dwellers and people in rural
communities. The high population and high density play a huge role in the amount of competition
that takes place in the city, compared to the amount that takes place in rural communities. The sheer
number of people and the relatively small area that they share cause the competition level to rise
exponentially. Also, the lack of emotional connections between city

monumental temples in highly visible locations. Situated atop the Capitoline Hill in the heart of the
ancient city of Rome, the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, shared with Juno Regina, and

Jupiter Optimus Maximus, the site came to symbolize Rome's position as Caput Mundi, which

Ops, Jupiter's mother, hid Jupiter away from Saturn in a place that would allow Jupiter to grow his

Jupiter was praised under many names at the temple on Capitoline. He was known as Jupiter
Imperator, Jupiter Invictus, and Jupiter Triumphator. Jupiter Imperator meant 'Supreme General."
Leaders would visit the temple and make sacrifices for Jupiter to lead them into battle. Jupiter
Invictus meaning to be unconquerable or undefeated and Jupiter Triumphator meaning to be
triumphant in battle. These three epithets of Jupiter go hand in hand with his title Jupiter Optimus
Maximus. Optimus Maximus means 'Best and Greatest' which is the only way to describe the king
of the gods who is a supreme general who is undefeated and triumphant. Jupiter also was
worshipped as Jupiter Victor which is pretty similar to the other epithets when it comes to battle.
Before any battle, the Roman Senate would wait for Jupiter's blessing so they could achieve victory.
The Romans centered their heart and soul around the worship of Jupiter and prayed that he would

Reflection On Spiritual Orientation
I reflect on my learning and practice in the past few weeks in the areas of class reading and teaching,
triads, meeting with directees in sessions and supervision. My class reading and teaching in the last
few weeks provide me with a concrete idea about spiritual direction. My understanding is that in the
spiritual direction relationship, the director is to listen to on an ongoing conversation between the
directee and God. The Holy Spirit has already been at work in the directee's life before the direction
session and will continue to be at work after the session is over. Typical spiritual direction questions
are "Where is God in this?" or "Where has God gone and why don't I sense any divine presence at
all?" It is important that "spiritual direction arises out of inviting and listening to God." One thing I
learn and need to remind myself constantly is that I should not have the attitude or expectation to
resolve the issue in the session. The focus on the session should be about what goes on between the
directee and the Holy Spirit. The learning of the triads helps me to put my learning into practice and
build my confidence in carrying out session. Those questions raised in the triad on reflecting the
experience of spiritual direction helps me to be aware of my deepest feeling, noticing God's
presence or a sense of holiness. The group learning provides a supportive and encouraging
experience. The learning of the triads allows me to appreciate the role of a

Roman Temple Research Paper: Religious Spaces in Pompeii

  • 1. Roman Temple Research Paper This was the great temple on the Capitolium, one of the two peaks of the Capitoline Hill. It was dedicated the Capitoline Triad, Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. Tarquinius Priscus vowed this temple, but tradition states that a large part of the work was done by Tarquinius Superbus. With his overthrow in 509 B.C., the first consul of the new Republic dedicated it on September 13. Here on each January 1 the new consuls took office in a colorful ceremony. Each month on the Ides, a white sheep was sacrificed to Jupiter. On the special Ides of September–the temple's annual festival–there was a great banquet for the people of Rome in which the statues of the three gods participated. It was prone to disaster, burning down in 83 B.C., A.D. 69, and 80. The last rebuilding occurred under Domitian. Impressive remains of the temple can be seen today in and around the ... When they were shaped and polished in Rome, however, they didn't gain as much in smoothness as they lost in symmetry and beauty, and now appear too thin and meager. In all of Roman history since the founding of the city, the burning of the Capitoine in the fighting between Vitellians and Flavians [in AD 69] was the most distressing and disgraeful event that ever befell the republic of the Roman people. Not by any external enemy, but with the gods kindly disposed (if that were possible, given our behavior!), the very seat of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, which was founded with good omen by our ancestors as our guarante of empire, and which neither Porsenna, when the city had been surrendered, nor the Gauls when it had been captured, were able to descrate, was now destroyed by the madness of our ... • 3. Lord Of The Flies By William Golding Man vs. Wild Nature is an integral part of our lives that often isn't taken seriously. Many people, commonly big companies, destroy nature to gain status and profit. This has been going on since humans came to be. In the novel Lord of the Flies, this is a prominent theme. In the book, many British schoolboys are stranded on an island after a plane crash. Immediately, roles are developed. Jack is a power– hungry choir boy who disrespects nearly everything– especially nature. Ralph is the leader of the group, a strong, well–built boy. Simon is an outcast. He is often analyzed as a Jesus–like figure and he is truly kind. During the novel, Jack is constantly disrespecting nature; he is always killing animals and destroying plants. Simon is very harmonious with it, he doesn't harm anything he doesn't have to. Ralph changes his attitude due to whom he's with, as he is much more destructive when he is with Jack, and is kinder when with Simon. As the novel progresses, so does the severity of their traits. This theme develops at the same rate as many of the other relevant themes in the book such as 'civilization vs. savagery', 'loss of innocence', and 'the nature of good vs. evil'. William Golding's work, Lord of the Flies, develops a foil triad between Jack, Ralph, and Simon around the concept of 'man vs. nature'. Jack is the savage force on the island; he is cruel, rude, and controlling. Jack is the malicious side of the triad. He sees nature as something in the way, a thing to be ... • 5. Reflection Paper On Therapy Self–Assessment: Therapist For my MFT 507class, I was in a group with Elizabeth and Jaime. We did a vignette to practice what we have learned in class and imply it in the therapy session. We switched roles and always treated each other with kindness and respect. I will refer Jaime as Debby, so there will not be any confusion. Impressions I learned many things with the vignette we did in class. Active listening is important be–cause it helped Debby see that I was listening and just focusing on her. Also, it gave me the op–portunity to clarify any misunderstanding. The assessment helped me to think critically and find out the reason why Debby came to therapy. When I was watching the video, I was impressed how easily Debby and I build a bond. I had the same name as her daughter and that made her feel comfortable. My strength regarding this vignette was how calmly I talked to Debby. I am able to use verbal and nonverbal behavior. For example, I used "ummm" to agree with Debbie, so she can see that I am on the same track as her. This experience makes me see this is the career I want to pursuit. The role playing as a therapist and having a senior citizen client open my mind and see that each person are different that have different problems. I asked Debby why she thought that everyone hates her. She just said that everyone did and no one like her. This question was unanswered because there was not actual evidence of what she told me. Debby was part of a senior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Pompeii As A Roman Town? What does the evidence about religious spaces tell us about Pompeii as a Roman town? In many societies religion has played a major role in their development, and the Roman Empire was no different (Roman Religion, Definition by Donald L. Wasson published on 13 November 2013). Michael Grant summarises Roman Religion for us when he says;" Roman religion was largely concerned with ritual, not faith or belief. The Romans did not have a personal relationship with their Gods nor did their religion offer them doctrine or an explanation of the World. They were Polytheistic; they worshipped many Gods" (Cities of Vesuvius: Pompeii and Herculaneum 2001, Michael Grant, pg.56). Within this paper my aim will be to show how Pompeii's religious spaces compared to that of other Roman Towns, from the Roman Colonisation of Pompeii era onwards. I will identify some of these religious spaces and evaluate their purpose within Pompeian society. I will also identify how these spaces impacted upon the daily life of the Pompeian's and how they contributed to the new Identify and establishment of Pompeii as a new Roman Colony. Temple of Jupiter (Capitolium) The Temple of Jupiter was built in approximately 150BC, within the Pompeii forum, while Pompeii was inhabited mainly by Oscan's under the rule/doctrine of the Roman Empire. The Pompeii forum was the economic, religious and political centre of Pompeii and the position of the Temple of Jupiter within this Forum was significant. The Temple stood on ... Essay on The Three Elements of the Female Athlete Triad The Three Elements of the Female Athlete Triad For an increasing number of women in the United States, a concern or preoccupation with body weight and size is a constant pressure. Female athletes, like most women in our society, are also often pressured to conform to certain ideal body sizes and shapes, as dictated by the entertainment and fashion industries. Female athletes, however, face a twofold pressure. They face the burden that our culture places on all women to be thin, but they also face the burden from coaches, parents, and other athletes to succeed in sports and look good doing so by maintaining an unrealistically low weight. When weight gain means removal from a team or elimination from competition, many female athletes turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This term refers to a wide range of abnormal behaviors, the extremes of which are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, but also includes limiting caloric intake, skipping meals, using diet pills, and many other pathogenic weight control behaviors. Having stated these limitations, there are a number of studies which do in fact indicate that female athletes struggle more with eating disorders than average females. Studies report that the rate of disordered eating among female athletes may be as high as 62% in certain sports (Yeager, Agostini, Nattiv, and Drinkwater, 1993). While a study of college female swimmers found 15.4% were affected, a study of college gymnasts showed that 62% of collegiate female athletes had seriously abnormal eating patterns. Smith (1996) found that disordered eating is most common among those in appearance sports, such as gymnastics, ballet, figure skating, equestrian sports, and diving. However, disordered eating behavior can be seen in other sports in which appearance is not as important, such as tennis, swimming, and running. Skolnick (1993) also notes that another study of 182 female athletes, who participated in a variety of college sports, found that 32% showed disordered eating patterns. Margot Putukian, MD (1998) reports in Clinics in Sports Medicine that a study of college athletes found 32% practiced some form of pathogenic weight control behavior, and 70% believed their behavior was harmless. • 11. The Characteristics Of Being A Jerk Jerks; regardless of upbringings, current conditions, or social status, when one is confronted with the idea of a jerk, certain people or behaviors may swiftly come to mind. When the concept of a person like Dale, who disregards the needs of others and does not practice courtesy, arises, it is quite evident that he is a jerk, and therefore, a considerably unjust being. Based on both the historical analyses of Polemarchus or Thrasymachus and the current standards elaborated upon by scholars such as Eric Schwitzgabel, Dale could undeniably be deemed a jerk. "Jerks see the world through goggles that dim others' humanity.", states Eric Schwitzgabel, in his article How to Tell If You're a Jerk (Schwitzgabel). Schwitzgabel states that with respect to scientifically recognized categories of personality, the "jerk" is very similar to that of "the dark triad"; the dark triad consists of narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathic tendencies (Schwitzgabel). Regardless, there are still many traits of being a jerk that cannot be seen in "the dark triad" (Schwitzgabel). Narcissism may regard themselves as more important than the people that surround them, but could also, unlike a jerk, strive to be the center of attention; Machiavellians believe that other people are tools to be exploited for personal gain, but in doing so are conscious to their cynicism rather than ignorant; psychopaths are often selfish and callous, with a tendency to engage in impulsive risk–taking, but jerks ... The Forum Pompeii The Forum Historians consider the Forum to be the 'centre of Pompeian life' therefore it is an important aspect to study as numerous buildings and many events occurred there. From the latest evidence, it is believed that the Pompeian Forum was undergoing a 'comprehensive, vigorous and ambitious post–earthquake restoration.' (Bradley. 2005, p.87). The Forum at Herculaneum, however, is still buried under the town of Resina and therefore there is not enough physical evidence to provide a great depth of information. Studies were concentrated on the Forum at Pompeii. The Forum dates back to the 2nd century BCE. It underwent numerous alterations during the city's history and at the time of the eruption was in the process of receiving an ... It was described in Pompeii: The Vanished City (1992, p60) as being 'turned into a workshop, with uncut blocks of basalt and stonecutting tools, and other building supplies stored there.' However in the last decade, as noted in Pamela Bradley's book, it had been repaired and in working order when the eruption occurred. The Sanctuary of the Public Lares was located in the North–East of the Forum in Pompeii. The Lares Publici were the protectors of the crossroads (compita). Historians argue whether the building was either commenced after the earthquake of 62 AD or almost fully reconstructed as a dedication to the tutelary gods of Pompeii due to the recent misfortune. The architecture was quite unusual showing changing designs. The temple had no roof and had a floor with coloured marble arranged in a geometric pattern. It had no wall on the Forum side that left it entirely open. It could be entered through a portico adjoining the colonnade of the Forum. On entering the temple there was two alcoves where statues of the Lares would most likely have stood. Remains show a centred altar. The rear wall reveals a niche where statues of the town's gods would have been positioned. • 15. How Did Rome Have Faith How Will People Live In Such... Rome Galiya Bar–Tal Rome was one the greatest empire of all times. Rome was ahead of her time and is responsible for a big part of modern civilization. It's hard to imagine that it all began on top of a few hills. I debated a lot. There are so many interesting topics. But I decided to write about mythology. I decided to research this topic because I was very curious about the beliefs of the Romans. They won so many battles and lost some, but something surely kept their spirit. But what is it that gives people hope that gives them strength and a safety net: Beliefs, faith. If there was no faith how will people live in such difficult times? The Romans did have faith. They believed in gods. In fact, they went to battle depended on the god's favour. Romans looked to the gods whenever they had an important decision to make. Thunder, lightning and the behavior of the birds were studied by augurs, who looked for signs from the gods, which would tell them the future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 19. Rush Hour Two: Through an American Perspective Rush Hour 2: Through an American Lens Filmic comedies are often genres that are overlooked in regards to the level of seriousness that they bring. Due to the levity of the content itself, comedies have much more freedom to deviate from the contextual restraints, imposed by society itself, other film genres must respect. Contextual constraints, such as, racial stereotypes, gender connotations, and cultural references, are components that comedies use in order to achieve humor at its maximum effect. The override of these constraints, however, has detrimental effects on entire ethnic and gender populations that go unnoticed at the expense of laughter. The 2001 film comedy, Rush Hour 2, uses humor as a vehicle to propagate active stereotypes that render the Asian female as an objective commodity that through an American lens devalues Asian culture and emasculates Asian men as a result. Before one can examine the methodology of ethnic and gender portrayals displayed in the film, one must first understand the context in which it was made. Directed by American director Brett Ratner, the sequel to the popularized film Rush Hour was written by American screenwriter Ross LaManna. This is an important notion to consider because it presents an immediate bias as to the accuracy of ethnic representations that are conveyed in the film. The partnership of Jackie Chan's character Lee and Chris Tucker's character Carter, may seem as a progressive leap into Lopez 2 equal representation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Female Athlete : Female Athletes Female Athlete Repercussion How many times have we all sat glued to our televisions during the summer or winter Olympics, admiring the young female athletes competing in such sports as gymnastics, swimming, track, and ice–skating? Behind those beautiful, slim bodies a serious condition may be lurking, one that is not a popular topic of discussion among many coaches and even overly ambitious parents. Nowadays, girls at a very young age are becoming more and more involved in competitive sports that require intense workout regimes. Coaches are more frequently telling these young ladies that they need to "lose that ugly fat" and "do whatever it takes" to maintain a low body weight. Even society praises extremely thin and fit bodies. Just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three components of the triad are eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, lack of menstruation (also known as secondary amenorrhea) due to low estrogen production, and osteoporosis, or thinning of the bones. The specific component of the triad syndrome I am focusing on is amenorrhea. It is a condition that is associated with reductions in heart, reproductive, and bone health. It can be classified as either late onset of menstruation or loss of menses for at least three months. The first symptom of the triad generally begins with an eating disorder, a very serious and widespread problem among young female athletes. If left untreated, anorexia or bulimia can lead to amenorrhea. Amenorrhea is a condition of which I have first–hand knowledge. As a former gymnastic competitor and a current teacher in our family–owned gym, I have seen the effects that strenuous exercise and low calorie intake can have on a young, fragile body. Any girl or young woman who competes in sports such as gymnastics, ice–skating, dance, or running is especially vulnerable. Sometimes the very traits that make her successful –competitiveness, stubbornness and perfectionism – also make her more susceptible to amenorrhea. She will do anything to run a little faster or perform a little better, while maintaining low body weight so that she will look perfect doing it. But being under such intense pressure to ... Constantinides (2006), suggests that this basic marketing strategy is more product focused rather than customer focused, therefore inadequate to use in situation like that of PTRC WAP's more service focused product. Constantindines further suggests that the main issues with the "4 Ps" are lack of customer orientation, consumer interactivity, and strategic elements. These suggested issues are direct components that are often used in PTRC WAP's daily practices. Customer orientation ensures that clients understand the service being offered and why it something they want to use. Consumer Interactivity allows the client to have more control and increased communication during the weatherization process. For example, customers are permitted to decline services if they do not want them completed at their house, but it is also equally important for them to understand why the service is being recommended. It may be that the "4 Ps" need to be looked at in a different way when being applied to public sector marketing. Product may be better represented by a service, such as weatherizing a home. Price may be better represented by the funding source, in this case a federal grant. Place, better represented by the delivery of the service. Weatherization comes to the home with all materials in a 2–3 day time–span. Finally, promotion stays much the same, but instead of advertising a product and price, a service is being advertised (Chew & Vinestock, 2012). For service marketing there is an expansion to 7 Ps, with the addition of people, physical evidence, and process (Chew & Vinestock, 2012). • 27. The Triad : Chinese Gangs The Triad: Chinese Gangs Triads are a system of organized crime gangs that are closely knit and very often family run. Referred to as the Chinese Mafia, Triads are active in numerous countries including China, Taiwan, Southeast parts of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and many Chinatown scattered throughout the United States (Huston, 2001). Believed to have in excess of 250,000 members, Chinese Triads are one of the most expansive crime organizations in the world (Booth, 2000). While the term "Triad" is relatively modern, its use comes from the triangle markings that are used on banners and flags by the Hung clan. The Hung clan is largely considered to be the start of all things Triad. Origins The origins of Triad gangs can be traced back to 1000 B.C. in a centuries old secret society. In this time period, peasants, often preyed upon by dynasty leaders, attempted to protect themselves by forming various self–help groups. According to legend, Chinese monks, bent on fighting injustice, formed an extremely powerful political group who were able to bring down Chinese emperors who were considered "evil" (Booth, 2000). Most of the current research dates out of the late 18th Century Hung Society where groups of society would help foreign traders smuggle large amounts of opium throughout China. By the turn of the 19th Century, secret societies were mounting an opposition in response to the harsh rules of the Manchu Qing dynasty, who were regarded heavily as barbaric outsiders ... Of these many symbols, and arguably the most deeply hidden and relevant, is the symbolism of the Martin characters. The youngest Martin, Bobby, is a leader among the village youth, as witnessed by "the other boys following his example" (Jackson). Compared to the other children, the narrator places great emphasis upon Bobby Martin by mentioning the character four times, indicating that the Jackson desires to draw her reader's attention towards the boy for analysis. The surname Martin is Latin for "Martinus, a derivative of Mars, the Roman god of fertility and war" (Hanks). According to Roman mythology, Mars, "the son of Jupiter and Juno," was a chthonic god, and as such he morphed from "a god of growth in nature" to "a god of death," symbolizing that, with time, changes are often imminent (Lindemans). ... I will argue that without the development of self– awareness neither a trainee nor qualified counsellor can meet the core conditions set out in most theoretical approaches to counselling, congruence, empathy and unconditional positive regard. I will also argue that counselling trainees need to experience the role of client themselves before they can take others on the same road to self discovery. Sanders (2011) argues that "By talking about ourselves as honestly as we can in a safe environment and listening to the feedback from others, we can check whether the view we have of ourselves is the one received by others" (Sanders, 2011, p61). Feedback not only raises our awareness to what we say but, and perhaps more importantly, how we say it – our non–verbal communication. The influence of non–verbal communication on a clients view of their counsellor can be taught, but I was amazed at just how unaware I was of my own body language. During my first few triads I could not control my hands, eventually opting to sit on them which was perceived as uncomfortable and a result of my nervousness. "Receiving feedback gives us a chance to change and modify in order to communicate more effectively" (Tolan & Lendrum, 1995, p30) and creates awareness of the importance of effective communication when building a genuine relationship with your client. Receiving feedback can also raise our awareness of the value of receiving genuine feedback itself, as well as a need to sensitively communicate feedback to others. This also creates a greater sense of empathy toward others. Triads also enable the trainee to receive feedback from a variety of different people, not just their tutor. • 33. Female Athlete Triad : A Condition Bailey Jensen Mrs. Hable College Prep Writing 11 September 2015 Female Athlete Triad Female athlete triad is a condition where bone loss, irregular menstrual cycles, and energy deficiency occur in athletes. Occasionally referred to as the triad, this condition is seen mostly in female athletes, although in rare cases male athletes can suffer from it as well. It occurs so often in today 's female athletes however, due to distorted body expectations, common menstrual irregularities, and the already lower bone densities of women. When these symptoms combine, it creates a very serious and life–long health risk. Femaleathletetriad.org states that one of the causes is weakened bones, which, in the most severe form, is known as osteoporosis. This state of weakened bones leads to an increased risk for injury, especially when it comes to stress fractures (femaleathletetriad.org). Many runners get stress fractures in their shins, located on the most forward side of the calves. Stress fractures originate mainly from over exercising with not enough recovery, not eating properly balanced meals, or from a mixture of the two. I can personally advocate for this, as a few years ago on my own cross country team a sophomore girl cut meat and milk out of her diet while continuing to do the very demanding varsity practices. Because she lacked the protein and calcium to fuel her muscle and bones, she developed a very bad case of shin splints, making it nearly impossible to run at her full ... It was seen as the primal hub of the town, and due to the busy trading nature, a commercial centre for exchanging foreign goods was a necessity. However in Herculaneum, being a quiet fishing village, the structure of the Forum would have been very different to that of Pompeii. Most of the Italian municipalities in their time had a Forum, a square in their town where the political, commercial, and social lives are all intertwined. Not only did it act as a social meeting place for the residents, but it also functioned as the primary religious and economic sector of the city. In Pompeii the Forum was a large area measuring at around 157 by 38 metres, not including all the surrounding buildings (Unfortunately in Herculaneum, the forum is still uncovered). The Forum was lined with the most important buildings in the city. (See figure 1) In Pompeii particularly, the forum held the Municipal offices (A), Basilica (B), Temple of Apollo (C), Forum Olitorium (vegetable market) (C), Latrines (public toilets) (D), Temple of Jupiter (E), Macellum (marketplace) (F), Temple of the Lares (G), Temple of Vespasian (I), Building of Eumanchia (J), and a Comitium (voting house) (K). It's unfortunate that sexual harassment is even prevalent at such a high rate within our society. My understanding is that in the spiritual direction session, the director is to listen to on an ongoing conversation between the directee and God. The Holy Spirit has already been working in the life of directee before the session and will continue to be at work after the session is over. The emphasis of spiritual direction will be to enhance the relationship between the directee and God. In a spiritual direction session, typical questions asked are "Where is God in this?" or "Where has God gone and why don't I sense any divine presence at all?" I learn to know that "spiritual direction arises out of inviting and listening to God." One thing I am in tension with myself and need to be reminded constantly is that I should not have the attitude or expectation to resolve the issue mentioned in the session. The focus of the session should be about what goes on between the directee and God. In the United States, these groups are active in most metropolitan areas that have a large Chinese population, and typically keep their activities limited to those areas. Within these areas they are often responsible for heroin and methamphetamine trafficking, human trafficking and intimidation/protection practices. While documented triad activity in the United States reached a peak in the 1990s, it is not clear if activity has truly been curbed or if the nature of privacy within the Chinese subculture is preventing the threat from being properly documented. Although Triads are active within the United States, their involvement in allied states poses an additional threat to U.S. security and its interests. He's the kind of person that cuts in line or the kind that vents his tantrum to his partner. We call these people: jerks. So is Dale a jerk? A jerk is an individual that is foolish, naive, egotistical, as well as unjust. Here I'll be explaining the views of Schwitzgebel, Polemarchus, and Thrasymachus of being a jerk. Schwitzgebel defines a jerk as being "ignorant of their self–serving tendencies." An example of this is parking in two spots in a lot, disregarding other people's need to park as well. A jerk would not know that their selfish actions would affect others, therefore they do not know that they are a jerk themselves. Not only do they lack attention to other's well–being, they also tend to view other's in a negative light. As Schwitzgebel said, "Jerks see the world through goggles that dim others' humanity." "Surrounded by fools, creeps, stuck–up snobs, smug assholes, and, of course, jerks," Schwitzgebel associates this view as a jerk's view; as most of the world do not see people negatively. As a result, maltreatment and being rude is unjust. For that reason, being a jerk is unjust as a jerk qualifies as being a rude, self–absorbed individual. Whether we are athletes playing the sport, avid fans watching our teams and their statistics, or the coaches, it is our character to always be in tuned to what is going on in the competitive sports world. Now, our competitive nature can either give us an edge in life or, in opposition, can cause us to burn bridges. To elaborate, being competitive shows determination, hard work, and is a form of utilizing our gifted talents, resulting in positive outcomes; this is referring to anything in life, not just athletics. On the other hand, being competitive to the point that we are losing teammates, friends, and those close to us shows poor sportsmanship and can have a negative effect on character. Physical violence is just one among the many different types of violence in today's athletic world. Some of the more common non–physical abuses among both male and female athletes are substance abuse, eating disorders, and verbal abuse/emotional stress. Although these are not physical, they have the potential to eventually lead to physical violence and injuries. We all have heard numerous theories of steroid and substance abuse. Sacred Days The Nundinae, which recurred every nine days, was special to Jupiter, as on this day, the high priestess of Jupiter, would sacrifice a white ram to Jupiter. It was also the day that rural people would come into town to sell, and be informed of religious and political decisions. The Ides, which is the midpoint of the month, with a full moon, was sacred to Jupiter. This was because the Romans believed that the full moon was a heavenly light, representing Jupiter's presence. On the Ides, a white lamb was led to the Capitoline Citadel, and was sacrificed to him. Festivals Jupiter also had the most festivals, and public holidays, dedicated to him than any other deity. These include: The "Vinalia altera", on August 19th. This was the day that people asked Jupiter for good weather to ripen the grapes before harvest, and a white sheep would be sacrificed. The high priestess of Jupiter would also pick the first grape of the harvest. The "Vinalia urbana", on April 23rd. This was the day in which new wine was offered to Jupiter.

  • 62. The Scene I Of Act IIi Throughout the evolution of a theme and seven variations as well as a two–part fugue, Berg explores the possibilities of various numeric significances and an ever evolving harmonic and melodic vocabulary. By presenting the audience with a familiar formal structure Berg is then free to more openly manipulate and change other variables such as using non–functional harmonies and unresolved melodic passages. He combines both dramatic and musical foreshadowing to create a visual and aural experience for the listener that is while always being conscious with what would be too overwhelming to the audience. Berg creates an opera ripe with symbolism and significance. The introspective Scene I of Act III is no exception. The scene opens with Marie in her continued struggle through life, attempting to find solace in her bible. The audience is presented with her frantic behavior in this scene and further observes how the plot will finally unfold, a sad and unfortunate end. Musically, Berg paints this surrealism wonderfully, and through his recurring methods and musical vocabulary, ties the scene together. Following two bars of silence, the scene opens with a descending fourth figure that gradually evolves into an ascending third figure in m.6. The four opening notes of the scene, G–D–F–Eb, form a 0146, which is an all interval tetrachord. On top of this linear tetrachord a solo cello oscillates between the notes G and D. These pitches are the tonic and dominant of the initial key area ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Characteristics Of A Dyad Relationships The characteristics and dynamics of a group is specific and changes in correlation with the size of a group. A group is more than one person that unite to meet similar goals and needs. Georg Simmel, a German sociologist, refers to a "group of two individuals as a dyad, and a group of three people as a triad." (Kendall 144). For instance, a married couple is a dyad group, and as the dyad relationship evolves the group shifts to a triad when a child is born. As the group size increases or decreases the dynamics, characteristics, and relationships change, accordingly. Two individuals uniting as a married couple, a dyad, are associated with similar characteristics and dynamics. While one married couple may have different goals or needs when compared to another married couple, the overall characteristics are shared among majority of married couples. Individuals unite with another individual because they share similar needs and goals in life. As an example, an individual whom desires a life of marriage, a successful career, the purchasing of a home, and a goal to build a family. Upon meeting another individual with these similar goals in life may decide to tie the knot to form a dyad group. These two individuals carry on life working together as a team to support one another and successfully fulfill these similar goals in life. "A dyad is an intense bond, and acquires unification between the two individuals." (Kendall 144). It is essential that both individuals continue to work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Female Athlete Triad Essay The female athlete triad is a health condition in which active women experience three inter–related disorders due to unhealthy body weight and eating habits. In the case of the triad, the word active refers to females who display moderate to high intensity levels of performance. The rate of performance must be high in order to counterbalance the decrease in calorie intake. Females who perform at a high intensity are at risk for the triad since they do not take in enough calories to fulfill the amount expended. The three disorders within the female athlete triad are osteoporosis, disordered eating, and menstrual dysfunction. Low bone mineral density can result in stress fractures within a female's body (6). Female athletes with menstrual dysfunction often display low levels of the reproductive hormones estrogen and progesterone. When the levels of these hormones are low, it is difficult for bones to retain calcium which causes a gradual loss of bone mass. It has been proven that when comparing amenorrhic athletes to athletes with regular menstrual cycles, the bone mineral density if reduced by 14% in amenorrhic athletes and 27% in regular athletic women (7). All three conditions result in serious health and body conditions which can decrease a female's ability to participate in physical activities. The female athlete triad is considered to be a significant health concern. In relation to the female athlete triad, some women are more prone to the condition than others. Sports that emphasize performance based on weight specifications increase the prevalence of the female athlete triad. Women who participate in sports such as ballet, figure skating, gymnastics, diving, and other aesthetic component sports have a higher risk of developing aspects of the female athlete triad in addition to women who participate in sports that involve weight classes such as tae kwon do, judo, wrestling, rowing, and equestrian (6). Most female athletes who participate in either high–intensity or endurance exercise have a greater chance of developing the triad. Studies have shown that women who ... • 70. Difference in Social Relations Between City Dwellers and... Why are the social relations between urban and rural areas so different and what causes these differences to occur? This question is what I am going to be arguing. I will be doing this not only through my opinions and ideas, but also through the works of Georg Simmel, Louis Wirth and Ernest Burgess. All three of these urban scholars add a slightly different view of urbanism as a way of life. Georg Simmel's interpretation of interpersonal social relations in the city is one based on the stimulus a person comes in contact with. Simmel writes this in his essay, "The Metropolis and Mental Life." He clearly states, "The intensification of emotional life due to the swift and continuous shift of external and internal stimuli." (Blackwell, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simmel's work overlaps with that of Louis Wirth. Most notably their work overlaps in the struggle to define the social relationships that are made in urban societies to those that are made in rural communities. Wirth conveys this message in his work called, "Urbanism as a Way of Life." Wirth writes, "The superficiality, the anonymity, and the transitory character of urban–social relations make intelligible, also, the sophistication and the rationality generally ascribed to city dwellers." (Metropolis, 68) Both Wirth and Simmel are aware that the social relationships of city dwellers are ones based on intelligence and rationality and are removed of emotion. However, with Wirth, I would like to focus on his idea that a city is not only high in population, but it is also high density and high heterogeneity and how these things play a role in the social relationships of rural and urban communities. First, I would like to look at the competition levels between city dwellers and people in rural communities. The high population and high density play a huge role in the amount of competition that takes place in the city, compared to the amount that takes place in rural communities. The sheer number of people and the relatively small area that they share cause the competition level to rise exponentially. Also, the lack of emotional connections between city ... • 72. The Temple Of Jupiter Optimus Like the Etruscans and Greeks before them, the Romans are known for having constructed monumental temples in highly visible locations. Situated atop the Capitoline Hill in the heart of the ancient city of Rome, the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, shared with Juno Regina, and Minerva, represented this tradition well. Before the iconic Temple became known as the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, the site came to symbolize Rome's position as Caput Mundi, which literally means 'head of the world'. Unfortunately, neglect, spoliation, and eventual site adaptation means that very little of the temple of Jupiter remains for us to study. Ops, Jupiter's mother, hid Jupiter away from Saturn in a place that would allow Jupiter to grow his powers without Saturn being able to find him. After he gets older, Jupiter returns home and battles Saturn, freeing his brothers and sisters in the process. The gods overthrow the titans, making Jupiter the king of the gods, Optimus Maximus. Jupiter was praised under many names at the temple on Capitoline. He was known as Jupiter Imperator, Jupiter Invictus, and Jupiter Triumphator. Jupiter Imperator meant 'Supreme General." Leaders would visit the temple and make sacrifices for Jupiter to lead them into battle. Jupiter Invictus meaning to be unconquerable or undefeated and Jupiter Triumphator meaning to be triumphant in battle. These three epithets of Jupiter go hand in hand with his title Jupiter Optimus Maximus. Optimus Maximus means 'Best and Greatest' which is the only way to describe the king of the gods who is a supreme general who is undefeated and triumphant. Jupiter also was worshipped as Jupiter Victor which is pretty similar to the other epithets when it comes to battle. Before any battle, the Roman Senate would wait for Jupiter's blessing so they could achieve victory. The Romans centered their heart and soul around the worship of Jupiter and prayed that he would lead them into many successful battles like he had done with his brothers and sisters against the titans many moons ago. 3) Worshippers The temple of ... • 79. Reflection On Spiritual Orientation I reflect on my learning and practice in the past few weeks in the areas of class reading and teaching, triads, meeting with directees in sessions and supervision. My class reading and teaching in the last few weeks provide me with a concrete idea about spiritual direction. My understanding is that in the spiritual direction relationship, the director is to listen to on an ongoing conversation between the directee and God. The Holy Spirit has already been at work in the directee's life before the direction session and will continue to be at work after the session is over. Typical spiritual direction questions are "Where is God in this?" or "Where has God gone and why don't I sense any divine presence at all?" It is important that "spiritual direction arises out of inviting and listening to God." One thing I learn and need to remind myself constantly is that I should not have the attitude or expectation to resolve the issue in the session. The focus on the session should be about what goes on between the directee and the Holy Spirit. The learning of the triads helps me to put my learning into practice and build my confidence in carrying out session. Those questions raised in the triad on reflecting the experience of spiritual direction helps me to be aware of my deepest feeling, noticing God's presence or a sense of holiness. The group learning provides a supportive and encouraging experience. The learning of the triads allows me to appreciate the role of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
