The Kongo Empire was part of an extensive trade network that connected much of
Africa to other regions. These trade routes brought wealth to not only the kingdom
but also the attention of European traders, specifically the attention of the
Portuguese. Due to European influence, specifically that of the Portuguese, the
Kongo empire fell during the reign of Nzinga Mbemba in 1665. Through
depopulation due to the dramatic increase in the slave trade, the changes in religious
influence and eventual colonialism, the Kongo dissolved into Portuguese territories.
European influence was not always negative in the Kongo Empire. King Nzinga a
Kuwu was the ruler at the time of the first arrival of the Portuguese, was impressed
by the Europeans and established an active connection. Eventually, he converted,
along with his son and wife, to Christianity due to the influence of the embassies.
While a desire to increase trade privilege most likely motivated this conversion, it set

ability to do assignments faster, a lot of time in class could be saved which allows
for more information to be taught. When notes and assignments are saved to a
computer, there s less likelihood of them getting lost, especially if important files

if typed and saved on a computer compared to writing on a piece of paper. This

The realm of classical music is a relatively veiled in the sphere of popular culture,
but if you take the time to scour through the beautiful, sometimes hundreds of years
old pieces, you will be surprised by the magnificence and allure that the classical
music genre can offer. There are three categories of classical musicthat can be
observed throughout the extensive universe of classical pieces, absolute music,
program music, and characteristic music or character pieces.
Absolute music is primarily instrumental and doesn t present a general theme or
idea, and is merely music for music s sake (Morgan). The term absolute music was
first used in 1846 in a program to Beethoven s Ninth Symphony that was written by
Richard Wagner, although the idea had been created in the late 1700 s by German
Romanticist authors (Apel). Absolute music does not tell a story or convey any
message external to the music itself, but still produces beautiful ravishing tunes.
Although it is not as common as program or characteristic music, it is still hiding in
prominent classical pieces. An exceptional example of mainstream absolute music

This paper examines three models of learning styles including Kolb Experiential
Learning Model, the VARK model, and the Honey and Mumford model. While the
research on these three learning style models details both strengths and weaknesses,
an alternative is suggested and explored in this paper. The methods by which each
model is measured are also explained in this paper; they include the Learning Styles
Inventory (LSI) and the Learning Styles Questionairre (LSQ) and correlate to the
Kolb model and the Honey and Mumford model. Using the information discovered
concerning the research of learning styles, the relevance and use of the models is
then examined in the context of the field of training and development. This paper
uses Pashler s (2008) findings to suggest that learning styles should not be the basis
for training and development but rather a tool to gain awareness for organizations to

Salmon populations have been declining for years, especially very drastically in the
last few years. This issue has been going on for years with very little awareness of
the public living in the Northwest, especially around the Puget Sound area in
Washington State. From Seattle Times I quote, There used to be coho salmon runs all
through Puget Soundand creeks. There haven t been for decades, said Julann
Spromberg, a toxicologist working for NOAA Fisheries. They re coming back, and
they re dying. We need to figure out what s going on.
One of the main causes of the declining number of salmon is water runoff. Water
runoff is an over flow of water from rain, snow melt, and other sources of water that
goes into the stream and eventually into the ocean. Unfortunately, the water runoff
will pick up anything that it went through such as oil, pesticides, fertilizers, and other
water contaminants. These water contaminants are bad for the marine life and the
environment, especially in our case the salmon in the Puget Sound area. With the
increasing population in the Puget Sound area, there will be more and more land
being developed to provide more space for more people. More population in the
Puget Sound area will also increase the water pollution in the Puget Sound waters,
which is not a good case for the salmons. In my opinion, salmons of the Puget Sound
