MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT
The Saturday 1st XI Played 18, Won 6, DT 4, L 8, BP 70, Total Points 150, and finished 10th in Division
1 (First XIs). The side were docked 40 points by the league for fielding a player that had represented
another club. We were always going to be up against it after this, and sadly relegation was the result. The
Saturday 2nd XI had a very successful season - Played 18, Won 11, DT 2, L 5, BP 39, Total Points 259
and finished 3rd (same points as 2nd placed Whitely Village) in Division 1. (Second XIs). The Sunday 1st
XI won five of the 13 played, with a further two abandoned, and the Sunday 2nd XI played five, winning
one, losing four. The Sunday sides in general suffered from a lack of availability which resulted in the
second eleven rarely taking to the field. The general theme throughout the sides was a lack of stability. We
need players to commit themselves to playing week in, week out!
There will be a trial net on Saturday 16th April at the Oval, 13.00 - 15.00hrs. On Saturday 23rd April there
is an away game versus St. James and on Sunday 24th there will be a trial game at home. On Saturday
30th April we are away at Roehampton to compete for The SW15 Cup, and on Sunday 1st May we are at
home to Crane. On Saturday 7th May the 1st XI are playing in their first league game at home versus
Horley, whilst the Saturday 2nd XI are away at Horley. On Sunday 8th May there is a home game in the
1st round of the league cup versus London Gymkhana CC and a Sunday 1st XI away game versus Hook
& Southborough. Tony Fenton is busy arranging the Sunday fixtures and will circulate these on the club
website in the near future. We are also entering the leagues midweek 20/20 competition. Paul McCann
will coordinate the sides/fixtures and will circulate further details in due course. The midweek LMS
competition is also going from strength to strength and details will be circulated by Andrew Woodhead/Dez
Telfer during the course of the season.
This season we are arranging a cricket week, 25th July to 31st July. It will follow on from the Club
Tournament on Sunday 24th July. The idea is to have marquees out on the pitch and possible opposition
are Slinfold, Residents XI, Fulham Compton Old Boys (our co-sharers) and a President’s XI. The more
available during this week, the better, and let’s hope on the social front, it will be buzzing! The much sought
after midweek game at Slinfold is on Wednesday 6th July, 2pm start. Tony has successfully managed to
resurrect the game against Ventnor on The Isle of Wight. A number of players have said how much they
would like to play in this game, so it is time to reserve Sunday 05th June for a day out to this memorable
location. 1pm start.
As ever, our grateful thanks go to Eddie McVarish and Alan Hartridge for all their work on the ground
throughout the year. Some of the scores achieved were a testament to the blood, sweat and tears Eddie
and Alan put in.
The AGM is on Wednesday 16th March 2016 starting at 7.30pm sharp in the upstairs function room of the
The Duke’s Head Public House, Lower Richmond Road (near Putney Bridge). Please make a special effort
to attend, as it is your opportunity to voice issues and concerns about your club. I will gladly accept
cheques/cash on the night for your playing membership, £100.00 full membership, £40.00 under
18’s/students. The club have also arranged card reader facilities, so you will be able to pay direct into the
account by card!
The club website holds a wealth of information, and the text facility has gone a long way in improving
communication. Our thanks go to Ben Brook for his time and expertise in this field. The site can be
accessed via www.putneycricketclub.com. Although we are relying on the website/texts as our main
communication tool, it is imperative the Team Secretary, James Peters, has each player’s current e-mail
address, phone numbers, (home/work/mobile), and address. Would you please e-mail James with any
updates/amendments to your details. James can be contacted on (h) 020 8265 2463, (m) 07711 928141,
or e-mail jdpeters2@googlemail.com A special mention has to go to Tony Fenton, Fixture Secretary, for
all his hard work in ensuring that we had opposition week in, week out.
Our thanks go to Charlie Smulian the Sunday 1st team vice, Rob Millar, Sunday 2nd team captain and
Stephen Bone, Sunday 2nd team vice. As well as the organisation on match days a lot of work goes on
behind the scenes, and I would like to thank all of the above for the time and effort they have displayed
during their time in office. We are looking for somebody to take the helm of the Sunday 2nd XI, and second
mates for each Sunday side. If you are interested in standing or indeed in one of the positions already
held, please get in touch with one of the committee and arrange to get a proposer/seconder, and send an
e-mail to the Club Secretary, Paul McCann, at least one week prior to the AGM, ie. by 9th March 2016.

Congratulations to Dylan and Cherie Ramsay on the birth of a baby girl, Sadie Blake, on 10.10.2015.
Congratulations also to Shipar and Memory Ahmed who tied the knot on 13.08.2015, and to Jim Gunn
and Nikki who are getting married on 19.03.2016.
Our thanks go to Brian Macmillan and other players who provided teas for the 2015 season. Brian has
agreed to provide teas throughout the 2016 season. Captains have a lot on their plate on match days and
if they don’t have to worry about organising teas, it goes a long way in making the day run smoothly!
The presentation evening held on 7th November 2015 in The Cellar Bar, Star and Garter Hotel in Putney
was attended by 38 members. The club took £2,045.00 from the entrance fee, raffle/auction, less expenses
of £1,728.00, (cost of hall/buffet/drinks/test tickets/plaques/engraving/sundries), and the contribution to
C.R.Y. of £205.00, total profit = £112.00. Our thanks go to all those who donated so generously towards
the raffle and auction prizes, and of course the highest bidders on the night. Our thanks also go to Paul
McCann, Ben Brook and Mike Curtis for all their hard work in organising the event. This years presentation
evening is still at the planning stage. The date, location and finer details will be circulated during the
summer months, but the club will once again subsidise the evening to keep the price of tickets affordable.
All we would ask is that you commit yourself to attending, and help make the evening a resounding
success.
Cricket nets, in preparation for the 2016 season, are underway at The Oval Cricket Ground. We have two
lanes booked every Monday,8 to 9pm, which commenced on Monday 11th January 2016. £7.00 per
session, £3.00 bowling only. Details are on the web site. If you have any queries contact Piers Jackson,
(Jackson.piers@gmail.com), tel no. 07786 073120 or Hugo Flower, (hugo_dobsonfly@hotmail.com), tel
no. 07919 425106 who are the co-ordinators. It is down to each individual to promote the club to increase
playing membership and secure a full programme of fixtures throughout the year.
A golf day is being arranged by Paul McCann during the month of June. Venue will either be Effingham or
Tyrells Wood. Details will be circulated in the near future.
We are in the process, along with our co-sharers, Fulham Compton Old Boys Association, of getting
building quotes for clubhouse improvements. Grants are also being applied for. It is a time consuming
process and my thanks go to Paul McCann, Ben Brook and Tony Fenton for their efforts in this regard.
We have a stock of kit detailing the club motif at the club. If you are interested in purchasing a shirt, cap,
hat or sweat band, please let your captain or one of the Management Committee know. We also have an
on-line shop on the Putney CC website. A full range of cricket attire with the club motif can be purchased
at very competitive prices. Club ties can also be purchased at £20.00 each, and a new stock of club
baseball style caps at £12.00 each.
As always, our thanks go to Julian Day for the production and circulation of the Annual Report. Good Luck
for 2016 !

PUTNEY CRICKET CLUB – 2015 SEASON

In previous years we have relied on social functions, donations, high of the hall/pitch and a massive
financial boost from the presentation evening. Without these, it shows that the club is not holding its own,
with a deficit this year of £1,788. Yes, we have had a large ground equipment repairs bill and our stock of
cricket attire and ties has boosted the misc. equipment, (we have a healthy stock of ties and cricket
caps/shirts). Our membership was down on the previous season, 49 playing members as opposed to 63
in 2014, (66 in 2013). The percentage profit for the bar was 42%, which is excellent.
My thanks go to Paul McCann and Ben Brook for their help in organising the presentation evening. Thank
you to those that donated items for the auction. My thanks also to each member who contributed towards
the raffle, and to the highest bidders on the night. We received a Waitrose donation of £330.00, thanks
Paul for your efforts !
Expenditure: I will highlight the areas with the largest differentials.
Ground account:
As stated in last year’s breakdown, this fluctuates from year to year. In 2015 both the roller and outfield
mower were serviced, as well as the square mowers. The outfield mower will need addition work in 2016,
so we can expect a larger bill.
Pavilion account:
As I write this summary we are in the process of getting building quotes for essential works on the
roof/guttering and for the refurbishment of the gents and ladies toilets/showers. We are also applying for
grants. Although we have accumulated a healthy bank balance over recent years, the proposed works will
dilute our finances substantially.
Miscellaneous account:
Misc. equipment has been explained above. Sundries includes a payment to a local resident for damage
to her car of £320.00.
I again ask members to settle their annual membership of £100.00/£40.00 (students) at the earliest
opportunity. Please ensure you bring sufficient monies on the day of a game to cover match fees and I do
not want to see and I.O.U’s behind the bar! My annual reminder “only players nominated by the captain
are to go behind the bar, and I would ask all to be vigilant”, will go a long way in retaining the
percentage profit.
As detailed under the pavilion account, we are in the process of arranging clubhouse improvements. These
do not come cheap, so any suggestions for raising club funds through social events or other means are
always welcome. Have a good season, and please stay for a drink or two after the game, not only to
socialise, but to boost club coffers!

THE EVE AND STAN MARSHALL 100 CLUB
The 100 club of Putney Cricket Club is an ideal way of raising much needed funds and a way of winning
cash prizes. If you would like to become a member, which costs £2.00 per number per month by direct
debit, please contact Mike Curtis (michaelhcurtis@hotmail.com). We are eager to increase the existing
membership of 37 during the 2016 season. The six lucky winners drawn at The Presentation Evening on
Saturday 7th November 2015 and each receiving a cheque to the value of £100.00 were: Derek Cowper,
Julian Day, Mike Curtis, James Peters, Stephen Wilcock, Mike Curtis and James Peters.

SATURDAY 1ST
XI REPORT
P W D L A
League 18 6 4 8 0
Friendlies 7 4 3 0 0
I think it's fair to say that the 2015 season for the Saturday 1s was not a resounding success, given we
were relegated it's be hard to summarise it in any other way.
Time and again we were let down by our batting and could only rely on regular contributions from Riki,
Devon and after a slow start some explosive innings from Tush. I think our batting can be epitomised in
our very first game against West End Esher. 26/5 chasing 168 became 163 all out because Riki scored a
ridiculous ton, if it hadn't been for Big Hig's questionable LBW we could well have won the game without
any support from all but one of the batsman.
This sort of batting collapse would prove to be a theme throughout the season and grew to be painfully
familiar, especially for the bowlers! One notable exception was our second game against Mertsham, Neil
C and Lil' Hig put on a hundred for the 1st wicket and low and behold we won the match (despite the
customary collapse still happening after the initial partnership!).
Towards the end of the season things began to click and our away game at Shepperton encapsulates
everything next season is all about. The top order, valuing their wickets (we saw off their best bowler for 8
runs off 9 overs on a rubbish wicket and still put on 200 odd off the other 36), laid a platform for the hitters
lower down. Norman, Saad and Jackson all deserve a special mention along with Andy H for some power
slapping at the end. The bowlers then fired. GP, Rolf, Prash, Saad and JP all bowled well, catches were
actually taken and both GP and Prash put their bodies on the line sustaining fairly serious injuries if the
process.
This is the spirit in which we will be playing next year, the team is starting to take shape and with some of
the new guys I've seen at nets so far there's going to be a bit of competition for places so let's make sure
we're playing at Shepperton level every week!

SATURDAY 2ND
XI REPORT
P W D L A
League 18 11 2 5 0
The 2015 season would have to be classed as a very successful year under new captaincy and certainly
a highlight for the 2s in an otherwise tough year on-field for the club. We won 11 of our 18 league games,
drawing 2, and losing 5. This saw us finished tied for second on points, and having topped the table for the
first half of the season, we ended up missing promotion on a countback. In the end, this was probably a
fair reflection – we beat all of the sides that finished 6th-10th on the ladder, but could only manage a single
victory against the other top-4 teams. We had a deep and versatile bowling attack which showed in our
ability to bowl sides out in timed games, but the lack of depth in our batting and particularly the failure to
post large 1st innings scores against the top sides was our Achilles heel once more. The mid-season loss
of our VC and prolific opening batsman (Saad Hannan) to the firsts was definitely a contributing factor.
While there was the usual large volume of players being called in to fill places in the 1st team, we managed
to develop and (largely) maintain a solid core of players. This was certainly comprised mostly of more
‘senior’ players but I think most would admit they had a bit of fun with their cricket this year. We played
hard and played to win, but we did our best to enjoy a beer after each game – even leading the way in the
opposition clubhouse.
Of the games we played, the highlight was an early season victory over Whitely Village away where after
bowling and fielding well we chased down 180. We dug ourselves into a hole after a great start, but
rebounded to chase down the total with 2 overs to spare and 7 wickets in hand. It was also pleasing to
knock off old foes Horley (twice) and Roehampton in a game where Julian Day carried the bat for 80*.
It makes the captain’s job much easier with a squad of players like the 2nd
XI – everyone puts in on and off
the field and the camaraderie was excellent. Julian Day turned back the clock in a milestone year and
finished the season with 352 runs at an average over 50, deservedly winning the batting award. Doug
Shaw (200 @20) and Saad (310 @31) were both in sparkling form in the first 5 games, while Parshav and
Chip also made some useful contributions. A push for higher honours will need a couple of batsmen to
score 400+ for the season, something we haven’t done for a while.
Bowling was our strength clearly, and it was often difficult to manage rotations and overs, but the pleasing
thing is that both John Simmonds and Rolf Merchant were rewarded for good form and went on to be key
contributors in the 1st XI. The remainder of the attack was consistent throughout the season with three
bowlers finishing with over 20 wickets each: Brian Macmillan (21), Paul McCann (22), and the skipper (23).
Highlight of the year goes to Owen Hereford who finishes his Putney career with one official league wicket
(v Old Pauline).
Finally, it would be remiss not to make mention of our ‘fielding’ in the 2nds. Not always an easy task trying
to find places to hide a bunch of slow, non-agile 40 & 50 year-olds, but thankfully we were blessed with
the ability and commitment of Nath Rutherford throwing himself around in the field to cover us all. He’s
now returned to the sunny shores of Australia and will be missed. As for the rest, we misfielded plenty and
dropped a few – could have been worse, but definitely can get better.
Thanks to all who played in the 2nd XI and look forward to 2016.

1. Minutes of last AGM
The minutes of the previous meeting held on 20th March 2014 were adopted.
2. Management Committee Report and Chairman’s Comments
Mike presented the Chairman’s report. Overall a reasonably good year capped by a successful Awards
evening. Teas were done by Brian McMillan and thanks were extended though we are now looking for
somehow to help out with Sunday teas. Mike thanked all the committee for their hard work throughout the
year.
3. Financial Report
Mike and Julian reported that the club made a profit of £1,700 last year (£2,000 withheld for repairs), and
still relies heavily on the generosity of members volunteering and their auction purchases at the awards
evening. Special thanks to Owen Hereford for arranging his cricket day and to the awards committee. Mike
commented that the club is looking to undergo a number of clubhouse improvements over the course of
the next year or so and that we also have to budget for equipment repairs / replacement. Full financial
report can be seen on website. Proposed - Chris Powell, Seconded Barry Perinparaja.
4. Team Secretary Report
James Peters reported that we had huge problems with availability from July to the end of the season. Ideas
for new players - Banner, Gumtree, Refer a friend, LMS, and Student Mags - please liaise with JP directly
as player retention is a problem. Was also commented that we are now running 2 LMS sides mid-week
and have entered the league 20/20 comp. Summer nets are going to take place at the oval - Peirs Jackson
to organise - may help with retention. Was also discussed whether there were grounds for a local 20/20
tourney with Roehampton and Sheen or even interclub- Tony F to investigate.
5. Team Captain Reports
• Saturday 1st: Dev Ebershon reported that we had a good start and that it soon petered out, we just about
stayed up. Gary Peters raised the point whether we will have the same problems this year with umpires.
• Saturday 2nd: Doug Shaw reported that we had a good start but it soon petered out, but we enjoyed
ourselves which was the main thing. Teas were the highlight.
• Sunday 1st: Charles Smullian reported that we had mixed oppo. Some good, some not so good! Struggling
to find players. Charlie won’t be standing for skipper this year due to time constraints - can we please all
help him in finding a suitable candidate.
• Sunday 2nd: Chris Powell reported that we had a consistent side with a good group of core players. Hurah!
Good team spirit throughout though it would be better to have the odd Sat player involved - partic as we
were losing strong new players from the club as they were not being appropriately selected for the right
team.
6. Groundsman’s Report
Eddie reported that the ground and pitch was looking in good condition though eyebrows were raised when
he asked “how much money is available” Eddie will be drawing up a shopping list for new equipment to be
presented to Mike at the next man meeting. E.g. hand scarifier. Tony F raised the question over a long term
financial plan for maintenance of the equipment to reduce impact of high cost replacements. It was decided
the boundary rope will be put on ebay. Possible white paint to replace. A working party is needed to remove
/ fix the cement blocks.

  • 3. PUTNEY CRICKET CLUB – 2015 SEASON Page 3 MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT The Saturday 1st XI Played 18, Won 6, DT 4, L 8, BP 70, Total Points 150, and finished 10th in Division 1 (First XIs). The side were docked 40 points by the league for fielding a player that had represented another club. We were always going to be up against it after this, and sadly relegation was the result. The Saturday 2nd XI had a very successful season - Played 18, Won 11, DT 2, L 5, BP 39, Total Points 259 and finished 3rd (same points as 2nd placed Whitely Village) in Division 1. (Second XIs). The Sunday 1st XI won five of the 13 played, with a further two abandoned, and the Sunday 2nd XI played five, winning one, losing four. The Sunday sides in general suffered from a lack of availability which resulted in the second eleven rarely taking to the field. The general theme throughout the sides was a lack of stability. We need players to commit themselves to playing week in, week out! There will be a trial net on Saturday 16th April at the Oval, 13.00 - 15.00hrs. On Saturday 23rd April there is an away game versus St. James and on Sunday 24th there will be a trial game at home. On Saturday 30th April we are away at Roehampton to compete for The SW15 Cup, and on Sunday 1st May we are at home to Crane. On Saturday 7th May the 1st XI are playing in their first league game at home versus Horley, whilst the Saturday 2nd XI are away at Horley. On Sunday 8th May there is a home game in the 1st round of the league cup versus London Gymkhana CC and a Sunday 1st XI away game versus Hook & Southborough. Tony Fenton is busy arranging the Sunday fixtures and will circulate these on the club website in the near future. We are also entering the leagues midweek 20/20 competition. Paul McCann will coordinate the sides/fixtures and will circulate further details in due course. The midweek LMS competition is also going from strength to strength and details will be circulated by Andrew Woodhead/Dez Telfer during the course of the season. This season we are arranging a cricket week, 25th July to 31st July. It will follow on from the Club Tournament on Sunday 24th July. The idea is to have marquees out on the pitch and possible opposition are Slinfold, Residents XI, Fulham Compton Old Boys (our co-sharers) and a President’s XI. The more available during this week, the better, and let’s hope on the social front, it will be buzzing! The much sought after midweek game at Slinfold is on Wednesday 6th July, 2pm start. Tony has successfully managed to resurrect the game against Ventnor on The Isle of Wight. A number of players have said how much they would like to play in this game, so it is time to reserve Sunday 05th June for a day out to this memorable location. 1pm start. As ever, our grateful thanks go to Eddie McVarish and Alan Hartridge for all their work on the ground throughout the year. Some of the scores achieved were a testament to the blood, sweat and tears Eddie and Alan put in. The AGM is on Wednesday 16th March 2016 starting at 7.30pm sharp in the upstairs function room of the The Duke’s Head Public House, Lower Richmond Road (near Putney Bridge). Please make a special effort to attend, as it is your opportunity to voice issues and concerns about your club. I will gladly accept cheques/cash on the night for your playing membership, £100.00 full membership, £40.00 under 18’s/students. The club have also arranged card reader facilities, so you will be able to pay direct into the account by card! The club website holds a wealth of information, and the text facility has gone a long way in improving communication. Our thanks go to Ben Brook for his time and expertise in this field. The site can be accessed via www.putneycricketclub.com. Although we are relying on the website/texts as our main communication tool, it is imperative the Team Secretary, James Peters, has each player’s current e-mail address, phone numbers, (home/work/mobile), and address. Would you please e-mail James with any updates/amendments to your details. James can be contacted on (h) 020 8265 2463, (m) 07711 928141, or e-mail jdpeters2@googlemail.com A special mention has to go to Tony Fenton, Fixture Secretary, for all his hard work in ensuring that we had opposition week in, week out. Our thanks go to Charlie Smulian the Sunday 1st team vice, Rob Millar, Sunday 2nd team captain and Stephen Bone, Sunday 2nd team vice. As well as the organisation on match days a lot of work goes on behind the scenes, and I would like to thank all of the above for the time and effort they have displayed during their time in office. We are looking for somebody to take the helm of the Sunday 2nd XI, and second mates for each Sunday side. If you are interested in standing or indeed in one of the positions already held, please get in touch with one of the committee and arrange to get a proposer/seconder, and send an e-mail to the Club Secretary, Paul McCann, at least one week prior to the AGM, ie. by 9th March 2016.
  • 4. PUTNEY CRICKET CLUB – 2015 SEASON Page 4 Congratulations to Dylan and Cherie Ramsay on the birth of a baby girl, Sadie Blake, on 10.10.2015. Congratulations also to Shipar and Memory Ahmed who tied the knot on 13.08.2015, and to Jim Gunn and Nikki who are getting married on 19.03.2016. Our thanks go to Brian Macmillan and other players who provided teas for the 2015 season. Brian has agreed to provide teas throughout the 2016 season. Captains have a lot on their plate on match days and if they don’t have to worry about organising teas, it goes a long way in making the day run smoothly! The presentation evening held on 7th November 2015 in The Cellar Bar, Star and Garter Hotel in Putney was attended by 38 members. The club took £2,045.00 from the entrance fee, raffle/auction, less expenses of £1,728.00, (cost of hall/buffet/drinks/test tickets/plaques/engraving/sundries), and the contribution to C.R.Y. of £205.00, total profit = £112.00. Our thanks go to all those who donated so generously towards the raffle and auction prizes, and of course the highest bidders on the night. Our thanks also go to Paul McCann, Ben Brook and Mike Curtis for all their hard work in organising the event. This years presentation evening is still at the planning stage. The date, location and finer details will be circulated during the summer months, but the club will once again subsidise the evening to keep the price of tickets affordable. All we would ask is that you commit yourself to attending, and help make the evening a resounding success. Cricket nets, in preparation for the 2016 season, are underway at The Oval Cricket Ground. We have two lanes booked every Monday,8 to 9pm, which commenced on Monday 11th January 2016. £7.00 per session, £3.00 bowling only. Details are on the web site. If you have any queries contact Piers Jackson, (Jackson.piers@gmail.com), tel no. 07786 073120 or Hugo Flower, (hugo_dobsonfly@hotmail.com), tel no. 07919 425106 who are the co-ordinators. It is down to each individual to promote the club to increase playing membership and secure a full programme of fixtures throughout the year. A golf day is being arranged by Paul McCann during the month of June. Venue will either be Effingham or Tyrells Wood. Details will be circulated in the near future. We are in the process, along with our co-sharers, Fulham Compton Old Boys Association, of getting building quotes for clubhouse improvements. Grants are also being applied for. It is a time consuming process and my thanks go to Paul McCann, Ben Brook and Tony Fenton for their efforts in this regard. We have a stock of kit detailing the club motif at the club. If you are interested in purchasing a shirt, cap, hat or sweat band, please let your captain or one of the Management Committee know. We also have an on-line shop on the Putney CC website. A full range of cricket attire with the club motif can be purchased at very competitive prices. Club ties can also be purchased at £20.00 each, and a new stock of club baseball style caps at £12.00 each. As always, our thanks go to Julian Day for the production and circulation of the Annual Report. Good Luck for 2016 ! Mike Curtis (retirement is nigh!) Chairman, on behalf of the Management Committee

  • 7. PUTNEY CRICKET CLUB – 2015 SEASON Page 7 In previous years we have relied on social functions, donations, high of the hall/pitch and a massive financial boost from the presentation evening. Without these, it shows that the club is not holding its own, with a deficit this year of £1,788. Yes, we have had a large ground equipment repairs bill and our stock of cricket attire and ties has boosted the misc. equipment, (we have a healthy stock of ties and cricket caps/shirts). Our membership was down on the previous season, 49 playing members as opposed to 63 in 2014, (66 in 2013). The percentage profit for the bar was 42%, which is excellent. My thanks go to Paul McCann and Ben Brook for their help in organising the presentation evening. Thank you to those that donated items for the auction. My thanks also to each member who contributed towards the raffle, and to the highest bidders on the night. We received a Waitrose donation of £330.00, thanks Paul for your efforts ! Expenditure: I will highlight the areas with the largest differentials. Ground account: As stated in last year’s breakdown, this fluctuates from year to year. In 2015 both the roller and outfield mower were serviced, as well as the square mowers. The outfield mower will need addition work in 2016, so we can expect a larger bill. Pavilion account: As I write this summary we are in the process of getting building quotes for essential works on the roof/guttering and for the refurbishment of the gents and ladies toilets/showers. We are also applying for grants. Although we have accumulated a healthy bank balance over recent years, the proposed works will dilute our finances substantially. Miscellaneous account: Misc. equipment has been explained above. Sundries includes a payment to a local resident for damage to her car of £320.00. I again ask members to settle their annual membership of £100.00/£40.00 (students) at the earliest opportunity. Please ensure you bring sufficient monies on the day of a game to cover match fees and I do not want to see and I.O.U’s behind the bar! My annual reminder “only players nominated by the captain are to go behind the bar, and I would ask all to be vigilant”, will go a long way in retaining the percentage profit. As detailed under the pavilion account, we are in the process of arranging clubhouse improvements. These do not come cheap, so any suggestions for raising club funds through social events or other means are always welcome. Have a good season, and please stay for a drink or two after the game, not only to socialise, but to boost club coffers! Mike Curtis Treasurer THE EVE AND STAN MARSHALL 100 CLUB The 100 club of Putney Cricket Club is an ideal way of raising much needed funds and a way of winning cash prizes. If you would like to become a member, which costs £2.00 per number per month by direct debit, please contact Mike Curtis (michaelhcurtis@hotmail.com). We are eager to increase the existing membership of 37 during the 2016 season. The six lucky winners drawn at The Presentation Evening on Saturday 7th November 2015 and each receiving a cheque to the value of £100.00 were: Derek Cowper, Julian Day, Mike Curtis, James Peters, Stephen Wilcock, Mike Curtis and James Peters.
  • 8. PUTNEY CRICKET CLUB – 2015 SEASON Page 8 SATURDAY 1ST XI REPORT P W D L A League 18 6 4 8 0 Friendlies 7 4 3 0 0 I think it's fair to say that the 2015 season for the Saturday 1s was not a resounding success, given we were relegated it's be hard to summarise it in any other way. Time and again we were let down by our batting and could only rely on regular contributions from Riki, Devon and after a slow start some explosive innings from Tush. I think our batting can be epitomised in our very first game against West End Esher. 26/5 chasing 168 became 163 all out because Riki scored a ridiculous ton, if it hadn't been for Big Hig's questionable LBW we could well have won the game without any support from all but one of the batsman. This sort of batting collapse would prove to be a theme throughout the season and grew to be painfully familiar, especially for the bowlers! One notable exception was our second game against Mertsham, Neil C and Lil' Hig put on a hundred for the 1st wicket and low and behold we won the match (despite the customary collapse still happening after the initial partnership!). Towards the end of the season things began to click and our away game at Shepperton encapsulates everything next season is all about. The top order, valuing their wickets (we saw off their best bowler for 8 runs off 9 overs on a rubbish wicket and still put on 200 odd off the other 36), laid a platform for the hitters lower down. Norman, Saad and Jackson all deserve a special mention along with Andy H for some power slapping at the end. The bowlers then fired. GP, Rolf, Prash, Saad and JP all bowled well, catches were actually taken and both GP and Prash put their bodies on the line sustaining fairly serious injuries if the process. This is the spirit in which we will be playing next year, the team is starting to take shape and with some of the new guys I've seen at nets so far there's going to be a bit of competition for places so let's make sure we're playing at Shepperton level every week! Piers Jackson Saturday 1st XI Captain
  • 9. PUTNEY CRICKET CLUB – 2015 SEASON Page 9 SATURDAY 2ND XI REPORT P W D L A League 18 11 2 5 0 The 2015 season would have to be classed as a very successful year under new captaincy and certainly a highlight for the 2s in an otherwise tough year on-field for the club. We won 11 of our 18 league games, drawing 2, and losing 5. This saw us finished tied for second on points, and having topped the table for the first half of the season, we ended up missing promotion on a countback. In the end, this was probably a fair reflection – we beat all of the sides that finished 6th-10th on the ladder, but could only manage a single victory against the other top-4 teams. We had a deep and versatile bowling attack which showed in our ability to bowl sides out in timed games, but the lack of depth in our batting and particularly the failure to post large 1st innings scores against the top sides was our Achilles heel once more. The mid-season loss of our VC and prolific opening batsman (Saad Hannan) to the firsts was definitely a contributing factor. While there was the usual large volume of players being called in to fill places in the 1st team, we managed to develop and (largely) maintain a solid core of players. This was certainly comprised mostly of more ‘senior’ players but I think most would admit they had a bit of fun with their cricket this year. We played hard and played to win, but we did our best to enjoy a beer after each game – even leading the way in the opposition clubhouse. Of the games we played, the highlight was an early season victory over Whitely Village away where after bowling and fielding well we chased down 180. We dug ourselves into a hole after a great start, but rebounded to chase down the total with 2 overs to spare and 7 wickets in hand. It was also pleasing to knock off old foes Horley (twice) and Roehampton in a game where Julian Day carried the bat for 80*. It makes the captain’s job much easier with a squad of players like the 2nd XI – everyone puts in on and off the field and the camaraderie was excellent. Julian Day turned back the clock in a milestone year and finished the season with 352 runs at an average over 50, deservedly winning the batting award. Doug Shaw (200 @20) and Saad (310 @31) were both in sparkling form in the first 5 games, while Parshav and Chip also made some useful contributions. A push for higher honours will need a couple of batsmen to score 400+ for the season, something we haven’t done for a while. Bowling was our strength clearly, and it was often difficult to manage rotations and overs, but the pleasing thing is that both John Simmonds and Rolf Merchant were rewarded for good form and went on to be key contributors in the 1st XI. The remainder of the attack was consistent throughout the season with three bowlers finishing with over 20 wickets each: Brian Macmillan (21), Paul McCann (22), and the skipper (23). Highlight of the year goes to Owen Hereford who finishes his Putney career with one official league wicket (v Old Pauline). Finally, it would be remiss not to make mention of our ‘fielding’ in the 2nds. Not always an easy task trying to find places to hide a bunch of slow, non-agile 40 & 50 year-olds, but thankfully we were blessed with the ability and commitment of Nath Rutherford throwing himself around in the field to cover us all. He’s now returned to the sunny shores of Australia and will be missed. As for the rest, we misfielded plenty and dropped a few – could have been worse, but definitely can get better. Thanks to all who played in the 2nd XI and look forward to 2016. Mike Henshall Saturday 2nd XI Captain

PUTNEY CRICKET CLUB – 2015 SEASON Page 12 MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD AT THE DUKE’S HEAD PUBLIC HOUSE ON 25 MARCH 2015 Present Mike Curtis (Chairman), Eddie McVarish, Chris Powell, Doug Shaw, James Peters, Julian Day, Richard Wilson, Charlie Smulian, Mike Henshall, Brian McMillan, Gary Peters, John Greenslade (President), Alan Hartridge, Paul McCann, Devon Ebherson, PiersJackson, Barry Perinperaja, Saad Hannan, Tony Fenton and Rob Millar. Apologies for absence Mark Wibberley, Paul Hogarth, Chin Ratnayake, Jon White, Matthew Atkins, Stephen Wilcock, Owen Hereford, Ben Brook, Andrew Woodhead 1. Minutes of last AGM The minutes of the previous meeting held on 20th March 2014 were adopted. 2. Management Committee Report and Chairman’s Comments Mike presented the Chairman’s report. Overall a reasonably good year capped by a successful Awards evening. Teas were done by Brian McMillan and thanks were extended though we are now looking for somehow to help out with Sunday teas. Mike thanked all the committee for their hard work throughout the year. 3. Financial Report Mike and Julian reported that the club made a profit of £1,700 last year (£2,000 withheld for repairs), and still relies heavily on the generosity of members volunteering and their auction purchases at the awards evening. Special thanks to Owen Hereford for arranging his cricket day and to the awards committee. Mike commented that the club is looking to undergo a number of clubhouse improvements over the course of the next year or so and that we also have to budget for equipment repairs / replacement. Full financial report can be seen on website. Proposed - Chris Powell, Seconded Barry Perinparaja. 4. Team Secretary Report James Peters reported that we had huge problems with availability from July to the end of the season. Ideas for new players - Banner, Gumtree, Refer a friend, LMS, and Student Mags - please liaise with JP directly as player retention is a problem. Was also commented that we are now running 2 LMS sides mid-week and have entered the league 20/20 comp. Summer nets are going to take place at the oval - Peirs Jackson to organise - may help with retention. Was also discussed whether there were grounds for a local 20/20 tourney with Roehampton and Sheen or even interclub- Tony F to investigate. 5. Team Captain Reports • Saturday 1st: Dev Ebershon reported that we had a good start and that it soon petered out, we just about stayed up. Gary Peters raised the point whether we will have the same problems this year with umpires. • Saturday 2nd: Doug Shaw reported that we had a good start but it soon petered out, but we enjoyed ourselves which was the main thing. Teas were the highlight. • Sunday 1st: Charles Smullian reported that we had mixed oppo. Some good, some not so good! Struggling to find players. Charlie won’t be standing for skipper this year due to time constraints - can we please all help him in finding a suitable candidate. • Sunday 2nd: Chris Powell reported that we had a consistent side with a good group of core players. Hurah! Good team spirit throughout though it would be better to have the odd Sat player involved - partic as we were losing strong new players from the club as they were not being appropriately selected for the right team. 6. Groundsman’s Report Eddie reported that the ground and pitch was looking in good condition though eyebrows were raised when he asked “how much money is available” Eddie will be drawing up a shopping list for new equipment to be presented to Mike at the next man meeting. E.g. hand scarifier. Tony F raised the question over a long term financial plan for maintenance of the equipment to reduce impact of high cost replacements. It was decided the boundary rope will be put on ebay. Possible white paint to replace. A working party is needed to remove / fix the cement blocks.
  • 13. PUTNEY CRICKET CLUB – 2015 SEASON Page 13 7. Social Secretary Report Current social functions for this year include: • A London 2 Brighton bike ride. • A golf day - TBC • Club Tournament and BBQ. 8.
