MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT
The Saturday 1st XI played 18, won 11, winning draw 2, lost 3, canx 1, conceded (win) 1, total points 282,
finishing runners up in Division 2 (First XIs). The Saturday 2nd XI played 18, won 10, winning draw 1, lost
6, abandoned 1, total points 244, finishing runners up in the 2nd XI Premier Division. This should have
meant promotion to the Championship (refer to the end of the report). The Sunday 1st XI played 25, won
9, lost 12 and had 4 cancelled . The Sunday 2nd XI played 10, won 7 and lost 3 and the Sunday 3rd XI
played 2, won 1 and lost 1. Well done to all the squads.
We have arranged a trial net on Saturday 13th April at Wimbledon College, (Edge Hill, Wimbledon, Surrey,
SW19 4NS), 4 nets from 15.00 to 17.00hrs. On Saturday 20th April there will be a trial match at the ground.
On Saturday 27th April the 1st X1 are away to defend The Roehampton SW15. Cup and the 2nd XI are at
home in a friendly against St. James. On Sunday 28th there is a home game versus Park Hill. On 4th May
the Saturday 1st XI are playing in their first league game away versus Whiteley Village, whilst the Saturday
2nd XI begin at home against Byfleet. The Sunday home game on 5th May is yet to be arranged. The first
round of the league cup competition is on Sunday 12th May, opposition yet to be advised. Tony Fenton is
busy arranging the Sunday fixtures and as we go to print there are 9 home and 6 away fixtures already
confirmed.
We are again entering the leagues midweek 20/20 competition. Further details will be circulated in due
course. The midweek LMS competition is also going from strength to strength and details will be circulated
by Hugo Flower during the course of the season. The six a-side Club Tournament will take place on Sunday
23rd June. Please make a note in your diary!
As ever, our grateful thanks go to Eddie McVarish for all his hard work on the ground throughout the year.
Some of the scores achieved were a testament to the blood, sweat and tears Eddie puts in. Eddie has
agreed to carry on for another year but we do need to arrange a replacement groundsman going forward,
so if anybody knows somebody that might be interested, let it be known.
The finances again showed a healthy profit. This was mainly due to impressive bar takings. Letās all work
together to ensure this trend continues!
The AGM is on Wednesday 20th March 2019 starting at 7.30pm sharp in the Wolsey Room (upstairs
function room) of The Dukes Head Public House, Lower Richmond Road (near Putney Bridge). Please
make a special effort to attend, as it is your opportunity to voice issues and concerns about your club. I will
gladly accept cheques/cash on the night for your playing membership, Ā£100.00 full membership, Ā£40.00
under 18s/students.
The club website holds a wealth of information, and the text facility has gone a long way in improving
communication. Our thanks go to Ben Brook for his time and expertise in this field. The site can be
accessed via (www.putneycricketclub.com). Although we are relying on the website/texts as our main
communication tool, it is imperative the Team Secretary, Charlie Smulian, has each playerās current e-mail
address, phone numbers, (home/work/mobile), and address. Would you please e-mail Charlie with any
updates/amendments to your details. Charlie can be contacted on (h) 020 7371 0951, (m) 07904 834825,
or e-mail ( charles.smulian@yahoo.co.uk ) A special mention has to go to Tony Fenton, Fixture Secretary,
and Ben Brook for all their hard work in ensuring that we had opposition week in, week out.
Devon Ebersohn the 2018 Saturday 1st XI Captain and Tushar Bhakre the Saturday 2nd XI Captain are
standing down. Our thanks go to both Devon and Tushar for all their time and hard work in running
successful Saturday XIs and, indeed, both coming runners up in their respective divisions. Doug Shaw is
also standing down as League Representative and again our thanks go to him for filling the role so
diligently. Due to the number of meetings and e-mails that are sent during the close season the position
needed to be filled and Iām glad to welcome Richard Jeffries to the committee.
At the back of this report is a list of those members that are willing to stand in a managerial post or have
indicated their desire to fill a vacant position. If you are interested in standing for a position already held,
please get in touch with one of the committee and arrange to get a proposer/seconder. Send an e-mail to
the Club Secretary, Paul McCann, at least one week prior to the AGM, ie 13 March 2019.

Devon and Paulette Ebersohn on tying the knot at a civil ceremony on 21.08.2018, to be followed by a
further ceremony in Mexico on 27.04.2019.
Our thanks go to all those that provided teas for the 2018 season. If anybody knows somebody or is indeed
interested in making the teas on a Saturday and/or Sunday, please let it be known. Captains have a lot on
their plate on match days and if they donāt have to worry about organising teas, it goes a long way in
making the day run smoothly!
The presentation evening held on 17th November 2018 at the clubhouse was attended by 44 members
and friends. The club took Ā£2,172.91 from the entrance fee, raffle/auction, less expenses of Ā£1,177.60,
(cost of food/test tickets/affiliation to Surrey/plaques/engraving/sundries), and the contribution to C.R.Y. of
Ā£100.00, total profit = Ā£895.31. Our thanks go to all those who donated so generously towards the raffle
and auction prizes, and of course the highest bidders on the night. Our thanks also go to Ben and Kathryn
Brook for all their hard work in organising the event. This yearās presentation evening is still at the planning
stage. The date, location and finer details will be circulated during the summer months. All we would ask
is that you commit yourself to attending, and help make the evening a resounding success.
Cricket nets, in preparation for the 2019 season, are underway at The Brit Oval Cricket Ground. We have
two lanes booked every Monday, 7pm to 8pm, (three lanes from Mon 4th Feb), which commenced on
Monday 7th January 2019, (Tuesdays in April). Ā£8.00 per session, Ā£5.00 bowling only. Details are on the
website. If you have any queries contact Dez Telfer (darien.telfer@gmail.com) tel no. 07905 062207, who
is the co-ordinator. Thanks Dez for again taking on the role.
It is down to each individual to promote the club to increase playing membership and secure a full
programme of fixtures throughout the year. The much sought after midweek game at Slinfold is on
Wednesday 3rd July, 2pm start. Please make a note in your diary and book the time off work well in
advance ! A golf day is being arranged by Paul McCann in Sept/Oct. Details will be circulated in due course.
We have a stock of kit detailing the club motif at the club. If you are interested in purchasing a shirt, cap,
hat or sweat band, please let your captain or one of the Management Committee know. We also have an
online shop on the Putney CC website. A full range of cricket attire with the club motif can be purchased
at very competitive prices. Club ties can also be purchased at the club for Ā£20 each and a new stock of
club baseball style caps at Ā£12 each.
Paul McCann and I met representatives from the Championship League at Putney Lower Common in
December 2018. They wanted to look first hand at the facilities we provide, both clubhouse and ground.
They were very supportive and gave a lot of positive feedback, but the long and short of it is that we need
to have a ground outside the clubhouse before they will allow the club to play at Championship level. To
this end we both attended a meeting with The Putney and Wimbledon Common Conservatives in
November. We have formally applied for permission to move our ground from its existing position to outside
the clubhouse. Again, the Head Ranger is very supportive of our requirements but there are a number of
legal barriers that have to be dealt with before our application can be considered. This is not going to
happen overnight, so we will continue to apply what pressure we can to achieve our ultimate goal.
The changing room improvements, āphase 1ā, were completed in June 2018 at a cost of Ā£3,450 per club.
Both Tony Fenton and I, who undertook the works, are looking at the plans for āphase 2ā, with a view of
tweaking them slightly. We will update both committees of our proposals and a time scale of works in due
course.
As always, our thanks go to Julian Day for the production and circulation of the Annual Report. Good Luck
for 2019 !!

TREASURERāS REPORT
A very good season financially. The total profit for the 2018 season was Ā£1,985 and this takes into the
account our contribution to the phase 1 works of Ā£3,450. Our bar percentage profit was slightly down from
2017 (46.5%), but still impressive at 42.1%.
Our membership was up to 67, resulting in an extra Ā£810 of revenue from 2017, but we still need to attract
more players to field two sides on a Sunday throughout the season.

My thanks go to Ben and Kathryn Brook for their help in organising the presentation evening which resulted
in a healthy profit of Ā£895.31. We also made Ā£120 from social functions. Thank you to all those that donated
items for the auction. My thanks also to each member who contributed towards the raffle, and to the highest
bidders on the night.
Expenditure: I will highlight the areas with the largest differentials.
Ground account
The overall costs were consistent with last year, with a slight saving of Ā£290 on equipment repairs. We are
going to get the outfield mower serviced this season so we can expect a sizeable increase under this
heading.
Pavilion account
The electricity bill increased by Ā£115, but this can be contributed to the two months of phase 1 works. I will
ensure that our co-sharers pay their fair share when phase 2 works are undertaken. The clubhouse
purchases, which does not include the phase1 works, increased by Ā£626. As well as sundry items, the
significant purchases were six bar stools, a hoover and the repositioning of the alarm box with new sensors.
(these items are shared with FCOB). The āHenry hooverā which was stored next to the kegs was stolen at
some stage during the season. I mention this to highlight the need to ensure the end door is locked when
players are socialising in the bar !
Miscellaneous account
The affiliation fees are down but this is mainly due to showing the āFriends of Surreyā fee in the 2019
finances. There were no fines, and we are still waiting for the Ā£75 from the league for Chobham crying off
on the morning of a game ! Teas increased by Ā£467.
I again ask members to settle their annual membership of Ā£100/Ā£40 (students) at the earliest opportunity.
Please ensure you bring sufficient monies on the day of a game to cover match fees and drinks. No IOUās
behind the bar please. (players leaving their name and drink on the pad by the till with every intention of
paying is all well and good, but sadly it is a sure way of losing money and having a negative effect on bar
profits !!).
My annual reminder āonly committee members are to go behind the bar, and I would ask all to be vigilantā,
will go a long way to ensuring we achieve an acceptable profit percentage.
Any suggestions for raising club funds through social events or other means are always welcome. Have a
good season, and please stay for a drink or two after the game. We have set up āNOWTVā throughout the
summer months to enable you to watch all the sport being aired whilst enjoying a tipple with your team
mates!

THE EVE AND STAN MARSHALL 100 CLUB
The 100 club of Putney Cricket Club is an ideal way of raising much needed funds and a way of winning
cash prizes. If you would like to become a member, which costs Ā£2.00 per number per month by direct
debit, please contact Mike Curtis (michaelhcurtis@hotmail.com). We are eager to increase the existing
membership of 36 during the 2019 season. The six lucky winners drawn at The Presentation Evening on
Sat 17th November 2018 by Soham Bendre and each receiving Ā£100.00 were: Olive Fenton, Mike
Henshall, Steve Trinder, Eddie McVarish, Mark Wibberley and John Greenslade.

SATURDAY 1ST
XI REPORT
P W D/T L A
League 18 12 2 3 0
2018 was a season of potential. A season of attainable goals. A season of hope.
2017 ended tensely and saw the 1st team narrowly avoid relegation. This brush with relegation would
either toughen the team mentally or be a worrying precursor for years to come. Thankfully it was the former.
2018 saw the return of 90% of last seasonās team and we had managed to include a few welcomed
additions. This enabled the team to play consistent cricket throughout the season, winning 12 games with
only 3 losses. A remarkable effort considering the previous seasonās results. A renewed strength to the
batting order with newcomers scoring heavily (by Putney standards) allowed the already best in class
bowling attack to do what it does best. This combination lead us to 2nd on the table and promotion, only
narrowly missing out on being crowned league winners. The results are a testament to the strength of the
team on and off the field. A true team spirit has been forged over the last 2 seasons and is a major
contributor in the clubs upward trend over the past 2 years. Long may it continue.
With the 2019 season looming, we have all team members returning for the season (first time in almost a
decade) and already have a few new additions which will only serve to strengthen the team. A change of
captaincy will bring a new ambitious and confident energy to the team that will make it an even more potent
force.
Bring on 2019, Putney is ready.

SATURDAY 2ND
XI REPORT
P W D L A
League 18 10 1 6 1
Friendlies 6 4 1 - 1
Putney 2nd XI had an excellent year in 2018, finishing second in the Premier Division with 244 points, only
4 points ahead of Horsley & Send, with 10 wins, 1 winning draw, 6 losses.Stats for all formats: we had 5
players in the top 15 run scorers in the league. Amogh Bendre (3rd) 478 runs; Damandeep Singh (7th) 382
runs, Chin Ratnayake (9th) 307 runs Karan Chand (11th) 303 runs; and Doug Shaw (14th) 300 runs. Top
performers with the ball were: Tushar Bhakre (4th) 25 wickets; and Brian Macmillan (8th) 24 wickets. Top
fielding: Karan Chand (1st in the league) with 19 dismissals; and Tush Bhakre (3rd in the League) with 15
dismissals.
Like any other season, we had highs and lows. There was heartbreak, there were nail-biting matches and
there were wonderful individual performances. Thankfully we saw great weather and we only had one
league game abandoned all season. As we entered Premier Division it was vital to get off to a good start,
A few strong words in the dressing room and with high spirits resulted in the team embarking on a fantastic
run, securing five wins, and one abandoned over the first six games, catapulting PCC to Top Spot in Surrey
County League 2nd XI Premier Division very early through the season, leaving many dreaming of that
promotion and entering Surrey Championship.
Then came mid-June where things went downhill, the team then had a run of five games without a win and
a winning draw with only 4pts, majorly because of player unavailability and some inconsistent displays
contributed to the demise of the promotion dream for the season. After 12 games we had 5 wins, 1 winning
draw, 1 abandon and 5 losses. And PCC 2s were on the 6th spot in the table.
However, after those six games the team really dug in and we had a terrific run. Players felt settled in the
team and we had some very good individual performances, we managed to win 6 out of last 7 games and
secured our runners up spot.
A few individual highlights of the season. Bambamās 99* against Lingfied (1st game of the league) and his
154 off 94 balls with Amogh 57 in a third wicket 213 run stand against Woodmansterne (a record). Phil 85,
Tush 79 (6th wicket record partnership ā 151 runs in only 10 overs) and Scott getting a brilliant five-for
against Whiteley Village. Brianās 6 / 73 against Old Pauline. Chinnyās brilliance against Woodmansterne 7
/ 45, which changed the momentum for us. Oli (61) and Amogh (78) a 141 run stand for 3rd wicket
partnership when we were 4/2 against Shepperton.
A real plus point for the season was everyone contributing in with a match winning performance at least
once, special shout out to Oli Dudman, Alex Ockwell & Matt Cope who joined the team in the second half
and provided much-needed reinforcement and energy which helped us win six out of the last seven games.
A big thank you to Doug, Brian and Amogh for being the backbone of the team. Also not to forget Hensh
who has setup the right spirit in the 2s which made it easier for me to lead.
It was noticeable this season how many players featured regularly in the team, and also how many were
able to push on and play a big part in the 2ās Promotion, If this squad can stay largely intact, and with
another seasonās experience in league cricket behind them, there is no reason Putney 2s cannot dominate
and win the title next season.
Last but not least, I would like to thank the players for their unwavering support during the season. Having
the quality of teammates as I did this year makes being Captain a real honor and privilege! Words cannot
express my gratitude. Thank you. As people know I will not be continuing in the role in the 2019 season
but will be happy to provide any support and wisdom I can offer to the club and teams till I am around in
the coming season.I hope everyone has had a very enjoyable Christmas break but now that has passed,
it only means the new season is very close, looking forward for it.

Ey up. At the end of May 2018, 14 of us went up on the train šššš to Godās Country to play some clicket.
We played 5 games all over the county. W3, L1 T1. The weather was beautiful. On the last day, we went
to the Headingley test match, to see England destroy Pakistan, and us destroy our livers.
We beat Settle in our first game on the Sunday, who were not strong. We were bumped off the main pitch
onto a remote field. Hensh (remember him?) played for Settle, and was out first ball, caught by Tush off
Hugo. We then watched Settle 1s play at the main ground (where we were supposed to play), a thrilling
run chase ensued and we supped gallons of cold lager and Dark Fruits in the setting sun.
Bank holiday Monday, we went to Upper Wharfedale in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, on a glorious day.

trouble facing their quicks and earned the moniker Blockers. We won the game against a strong side who
hadnāt lost for 2 years. But they beat us in the beer races after.
At Sandle, Saad and Tush opened. Tush hit some of the biggest sixes ever seen over railway lines and
roads and easily retired on 50* after a few overs. Saad took 30 overs to get to 30 runs.
The game finished tied, we would have won but Blockers counted the overs wrong.
The sheds of Great Habton next, proper rural. It werenāt raining, but it were overcast. The sheds had no
leccy, no water, nowt. Hannaford showed up in his van. The farmers beat us soundly, but they put on a
great BBQ. Dev scored 100 not out. Ebersohn and Telfer with a sousant of Shaw put on 165 unbroken for
a Putney 5th wicket club partnership record. Decent pub plus fines session, then a curry in Leeds. Saad
ordered a phaal.
Last up was Bolton Percy, Brookseyās home village. Pre match Full English plus pints of Yorkshireās best
Sam Smithās bitter, and a village tour where Sarab finally got his sheep selfie. In the match, Ockers
smashed the skippers young son to all parts of the county, others chucked their toys out of prams and we
won a tight-ish game. Decent celebrations after and post tour fines session.

Make Putney Tours Great Again Formerly Known As Champagne Moment, ThunderBitch Moment Of The
Tour
Many brilliant moments but the standout winner was the brilliant day of cricket and drinking at the beautiful
stone-walled Upper Wharfedale, with a tense 1 wicket win at the death. Hugo and Hensh were last in, with
Mike hitting the winning runs.
Looking forward to organising the next tour in 2020!
