Employers usually hire part-time or temporary employees to help with the increased work demands or seasonal industry fluctuations. These types of employees are usually hired to cover for absent employees or to fill gaps in the company’s workforce. 
Temporary employees are paid on an hourly basis or by the amount of work they render. All temporary workers need to comply with the company’s rules, obligations, and policies. 
Contract Workers vs. Temporary Staff 
Contract workers are those that companies hire directly. They are retained for a fixed period of time and may be brought in for extended duties like maternity or family leave fill-in. Contracts may last for six months, a year, or even longer. 
Temporary employees, on the other hand, are brought in for short projects and assignments, which can last for several days to months. These types of workers are paid by the staffing agency that represents them. It is the responsibility of the employment agency to pay the worker’s salary, deduct taxes, and perform needed paperwork. 
The Benefits of Temporary Employees 
Hiring temporary workers reduces the stress and pressure from full-time employees during vacations and peak seasons. They help prevent poor quality work, which can be the result of work overload and lack of having sufficient time to dedicate to projects.
When some employees are out of office for vacation, sickness, or maternity leave, managers can hire temporary employees to fill their position. This allows the company to maintain proper staff levels, while reducing employee-related costs. 
Getting Help From Staffing 
There are temporary staff hire services, which offers a hassle-free alternative to minimize hiring risks and to save time and money. These companies make sure that the staff they recruit can fulfill all of the company’s responsibilities. Some agencies also supervise the replacement process to help managers focus on more important aspects of businesses. 
While temporary workers can help with business demands, managers still need to be specific about who they need and what skills they must have. This limits midstream turnover and the need to retrain employees.
