Editor's Notes
Hello everyone. In my presentation, I will prove to you that Collective Creativity is able to complement and enhance Design Thinking - but it also that it helps communities to create purposeful solutions and breakthroughs. What keeps us awake at night and what gets us out of bed every morning @Be-novative is a complex challenge: how can we ensure that organizations optimize both the willingness and the ability to innovate for breakthroughs?
But the growth in the number of patentable solutions is not the only one collective creativity can boost…
Working today with more than 60 amazing Fortune2000 companies, from various industries like Cisco, GE Healthcare, Microsoft, ING or Deloitte
We identified 3 key learnings to inspire collective creativity and create breakthroughs in any type of organizations. Let’s see how.
The first key learning is that you need to have regular times dedicated for solving challenges in a creative way together. The truth is, you don’t only need a challenge, but you need to make that challenge a social experience. Because if you ask large numbers of people to fill in an online form submitting their ideas on a blank sheet, don’t be surprised if the majority, more than 80% of the people will bounce back, because:
No, they have not thought about your question before
So No, they do not have any ideas in their pockets to type it for you,
But Yes, with enough inspiration and thinking together with others they would be able to come up with creative solutions for your question.
This is why we make it possible for people to join small teams of 4 thinking together in a challenge. They go through 4 phases of sharing ideas anonymously, so that they won’t be afraid of sharing really bold, surprising, creative solutions. People will not be biased about their friends’ ideas or supporting their boss’s ideas. They spend 15 minutes of sharing ideas receiving built-in inspirations like pictures or random words to inspire them to think about new surprising solutions. There is a little bit of competition and a bit of cooperation between the teams. They go forward with evaluating all ideas on impact and feasibility also anonymously, but at the very end at the challenge results page we show only the top 3 people on a leaderboard who shared the most of the impactful, feasible ideas according to everyone. This happens in only 25 - 30 minutes. So in only half an hour, we already have hundreds or thousands of ideas to build on, but we also can see which are the top1% that really worth it to experiment with. Teams can group and merge similar ideas together, elaborate on them as project concepts and follow their implementation stages transparently.

The 2nd key learning to create breakthroughs is providing the ability for anyone to innovate. In order to achieve that, you need to provide methods and time for people with the potentially most promising ideas to build strong concepts together and implement their ideas. Teaching them to use several innovation methods can happen for example on a Hackathon, on Innovation Days or just separating a few hours of their working time for creating prototypes. If there is a Hackathon, we advise to break its concept-creation phase into small sprints, where the teams can focus on one goal at a time.
= Understanding the problem for the point of view of the client who made the order and also of the end user (the clients’ client)
As a 3rd key learning we advise you to announce it not only at the end, but during the introduction of the program as well, that the winning teams will get resources and time to implement their ideas as a corporate project. This is the single most important motivational factor of those innovators you really want to talk to.
We are at the doorstep of a new innovation era, one that is fundamentally different in the quantity and quality of innovation it can bring. Innovation is not about a mysterious solo act or a single idea anymore. In any kind of complex product or project development, creativity involves a large number of people from different disciplines working effectively together to solve the greatest problems inspiring each other. The project managers and directors do not come up with all the ideas on their own, because an invention contains literally tens of thousands of ideas. The question is, how long it will take you to democratically surface the most promissing impactful-feasible ideas among all and how the people will enjoy the journey towards those breakthrough solutions. Our responsibility in this new era is to ensure both the willingness and the ability for our entire community-base to come up with creative solutions. What we can do is construct a safe virtual environment that will be fun to take part in, which nurtures respectful relationships and with built-in methods unleashes everyones creativity. Our accelerated world finally has all the ingredients to produce breakthroughs on a massive scale, where breakthroughs are the norm and your organizaton should be no exception to that. So Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to the age of collective creativity, where our innovators are not alone and where all of us can discover the innovator within.
Awakens the Innovator in everyone
We are at the doorstep of a new innovation era, one that is fundamentally different in the quantity and quality of innovation it can bring. Innovation is not about a mysterious solo act or a single idea anymore. Our vision is to motivate people to find out which ideas they are passionate about to pursue, and get connections, resources and methods to make it happen in real life.
