2. Concept: Leading Lines
I have always seen myself as the pillar of my life. Doing a lot, learning a lot, and earning a lot
are the three foundations of learning. The unshaken pillar holds the building and bridges
unshaken. Likewise, I am carrying my responsibilities. God's love is the pillar upon which the
world's faith lies.
Successful Sun
I AM A PILLAR
3. Concept: Forced Perspective
Be brighter as the sun, be as fierce as the sun, burn yourself as the sun, and soon you will
become like the sun, a special personality. In the east, the sun rises and falls in the west.
Similarly, start your journey from a point, be brighter, and do hard work, unlike what you are
living now, your success will alter your life, to its best.
Darkness
4. Concept: Symmetry
The answer is not to think about it if you're engulfed by darkness. The correct approach is to turn
the gloom to shine as a bright light. r shining in the dark is still unique, rather than shining in the
presence of light. Use the wisdom to glow as life gets sad. Shining in the dark leaves the
strongest impression and promotes trust in oneself.
Light is Bright
5. Concept: Low angle
Be like a tall pillar of light, and let your mind and heart be full of light. Still, strong and steady is
the light. The elements in the opposite direction are not necessary for the light to glow softly and
peacefully. It will provide light for everyone.
Broad Sky
6. Concept: Horizon photography
Let us all keep our eyes focused, not just on the bottom line, but on the horizon. Look at every
aspect of life from a broad perspective. Let us not be people of narrow-mindedness. Like a sky
that shows no choice to anyone in the world until it covers the entire earth, with a large mind.
Let's share the fun and think positive and be broad-minded as the sky.
Tree of Life
7. Concept: Low Angle
The coconut tree has been recognized as a representation of relaxation. It's up directly to
paradise. Coconut tree, as every part of a tree from top to bottom, is found to be useful, it is also
known as Tree of Life. Fruit coconut is considered to be the taste of heaven.
Focus the target
8. Concept: Forced Perspective
Everything we want can fall on our hands if we work with determination and hard work. We can
overshine the sun, by burning ourselves to become a successful human. Trying to lock the sun in
the frame is always difficult, but once we focused rightly, the target wouldn’t be missed out.
Beauty of Waterfalls
9. Concept: Wide angle
We can find beauty everywhere if we truly love nature. We always forget all our problems and
get lost in the beauty of the water that is tumbling down. The sound of water falling is a musical
feast to our ears. The beauty of this mini waterfall named Pudhu Yeri relieves us from stress,
gives some inner peace, and refreshes the soul.
Nature gives Peace
10. Concept: Horizon
We're able to grasp thousands of miracles by looking at nature. Look at the beauty of the River
Bhavani and the sky in the same frame. Isn’t the photo soothing? The beauty of nature is well
expressed in images rather than phrases.
11. PART II - PHOTO ESSAY
APPRECIATING NATIVE CULTURE - WEAVING
The rhythmic beats of the handloom pedals welcome you to home for the art of making silk
sarees and dhotis, Salem. Salem is renowned for its delicious mangoes, magnesite, hills, and
traditional culture of weaving. It is interesting to understand how the bundles of raw silk threads
transform into the elegant Dhotis and silk sarees.
As I live in the town of Salem, I have seen a variety of weaving procedures many times. Most of
the people in my region are interested in the waving of Dhotis. I chose, therefore, to cover up a
tale based on weaving. There are some areas, apart from my area where people weave silk sarees
as well. For the people of Salem, weaving is one of the main occupations. Salem is also a home
of spinning mills and power loom technology. Due to the major role played these days by power
loom technology, handloom weavers suffer a lot. They are unable to compete with economically
strong technology.
Handloom weavers live a very normal life due to decreased salaries and lower incentives. The
substantial portion of the wage given to them as salary would be deducted by a small mistake in
weaving the dhoti. With traditional instruments, handloom weaving is still dominant, but the
weavers' lives are not that well.
I tried to capture beautiful images of weavers engaged in different dhoti weaving processes.
Despite facing many challenges, weavers actively participate in weaving practices with a smile.
Contributing to the textile industry and preparing the traditional attire dhoti is the reason for their
happiness in weaving. In turning the larvae into the elegant dhoti, the images express the
sincerity of the handloom weavers.
12. A wrap is being prepared on the streets by Santharam, a weaver who has 40 years of experience.
13. In the early morning, Mrs. Geetha Sekar is also involved in preparing the wrap for the dhoti.
14. For preparing the wrap, 4 to 5 members are involved in the process. Mr.Sekar is involved in
making the wrap for the loom.
16. Mrs. Sabitha Santharam is spinning the silk thread in a spinning wheel, which was popularized
by Gandhi. With happiness, she is continuing this work.
17. After spinning, the thread rolled in the pin bobbins is soaked in water and hanged to become dry.
18. The pin bobbin is set into a wooden shuttle which will be in motion all the way to convert the
thread into dhoti.
19. Gradually, the thread is converted into a silk dhoti material.
The weaver presses the treadles by their foot all the way long to create a dhoti. Weavers always
suffer from leg pain due to the continuous motion of their legs.
20. A weaver hiding all their pain and smiling. The smiling face is even evident through the cloth
roller.
21. With sincerity in heart and seriousness in the face, Sabitha Santharam folds the material woven
by her and her husband. Finally, the weaving process comes to an end and now, the ’weavers’
family can get wages and again lead a normal life.
22. ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
With the guidance of Department (Centre fort Media Studies) I Indira Priya Dharsini M, began
to capture the images. The unique characteristic of freezing time is found in photography. I
began to love the art of photography. I take photos of nature everywhere I go and add them to my
album. As only a handful has encountered the object or landscape from a unique angle, I try to
take the photograph from a different viewpoint. The love of nature keeps me clicking on the
lovely landscapes. I will still take the chance, as a photographer, to capture the moments to keep
the time frozen under a frame and the memory lasts forever.
