When Lord Dattatreya was not able to select an all accomplished Guru, then he had a premonition in his heart, in his mind he heard a voice of his soul that you will not be able to find an accomplished Guru in the whole world unless and until you become a true disciple and devlop the Spiritual enquiry, Shraddha and the requisite faith in your heart. Then you not feel absence of a Guru. The eyes of Lord Dattatreya were opened. His whole problem got solved. To gain the Knowledge of the Self, he understood what was to be done and he started proceeding to the south to fulfill his accomplishment. On the Way whomever he met he learnt from them and he returned to his house having become a realized soul.

3. Lord Dattatreya said- Earth, Wind, Sky, Water,
Lord Yama, Fire, Moon, Sun, Pigeon, Serpent, Sea,
Moth, Busy bee, Caterpillar, Elephant, Deer,
Pingala Dancer, Crow, Child, Women, Blacksmith,
Snake, Spider These are my twenty four Gurus.
4. Earth: The earth bears sunlight, cold, wind
and rain with patience. It bears the dirt
thrown on it by the people and does not
get angry when people walk on her. It
always revolves round its own orbit in
regular motion endlessly. I have accepted
the Earth as my Revered Guru and have
learnt from the divine attributes of the
Earth.
5. Wind: Not resting in one place, always
in motion, to deliver coolness to
everyone, to distribute the sweet
smell to everyone but to remain
unaffected by itself. These divine
attributes I have find in the wind and I
have accepted her as My Revered
Guru.
6. Sky: Endless and large, holding many
worlds in its lap, resourceful yet
without ego. This attribute of the sky
is dear to me. I am trying to imbibe
this divine quality of the sky is dear to
me. I am trying to imbibe this divine
quality of the sky in myself and I have
accepted the sky as my Revered Guru
7. Lord Yama: To maintain the balance in
the nature, to remove the unwanted,
to release bondage of attachment, and
to give rest to the tired, when I saw
Lord Yam being busy with these works
I decided to accept Lord Yam as my
revered Guru.
8. Water:
To make everyone Pure, to remain
plain. To deliver coolness to everyone,
to give life to the Plant Kingdom, in
spite of being the son of sea, yet to
make self sacrifice by going to every
one’s door, when I saw these divine
attributes in the water I decided to
accept the water as my Revered Guru.
9. Fire: Always with light. Whoever
touches the fire becomes like itself. It
also influences those who are near to
eat
10. Moon: Being without light, yet it gives
the moonlight to the Earth by
borrowing it from the Sun. I found this
divine Moon to be social worker. In
spite of losing all its Qualities at the
time of difficulty but not to get
dejected but to try again and again to
move forward. This Divine Quality of
the Patient Moon is very useful. Seeing
this I Made the Divine Moon as my
Revered Guru.
11. Sun: To do the daily task on its
appointed time on its own. It is by
itself Full of light and it gives light and
gives light to others also. Seeing this
great Quality of the Sun I thought it
appropriate to make the Divine Sun as
My Revered Guru.
12. Pigeon: The Pigeon saw the seeds lying
in the trap laid for him and due to
greed went to pick them up and in the
process lost its life. Looking at this I
had the Knowledge that due to greed
one loses its own Conscience and when
the conscience is lost the end comes
soon. The Creature from whom I got
this valuable lesson was the pigeon
and that is why I made the Pigeon as
my Revered Guru.
13. Python: In the winter season it loses
its skin and also due to the rainy
seasons due to blockage of its road the
python spends his days by eating earth
and was patiently bearing its poverty.
Seeing this patient bearing capacity of
the python I decided to accept him as
my Revered Guru.
14. Sea: The Rivers continuously keep on
pouring its water in the sea and yet it
does not cross its boundaries. It was
numerous treasures of jewels in its lap
yet it does not have any ego, by itself
its water is sally but it provides sweet
water to the clouds for rain, being
educated by these attributes of the
sea I decided to accept the Divine Sea
as my Revered Guru.
15. Moth: In order to achieve its aim, it
does not care for its own life, when I
Saw the Moth burning itself the lamp; I
was impressed by his single minded
determination. When I accepted the
Burning Moth as My Guru at that time
the soul of the moth told me that one
should not give much importance to
this perishable life but it should be
always ready to stand by the principles
of the truth.
16. Honeybee: It collects honey from the
flowers and offers it to others and
with this Sadhana it is teaching others
that one should not live for oneself
but others, it heard its message and
learnt it as a student. I decided to
make this obedient Honeybee as my
Revered Guru.
17. Butterfly: The Butterfly is full of
Attachments and not thinking about
his life or death it was sitting on the
Lotus Flowers. In the night the
Elephant ate the flower and as a result
the Butterfly lost its life, this lessons I
Learnt from the Butterfly and
memorized it.
18. Elephant : Overcome by lust the
elephant gets caught in the net thrown
by the Other Elephants and remains
imprisoned for the rest of its life,
Seeing this I came to Know about the
bed effects of the lust and I Decided
to accept this elephants without
conscience also as my Revered Guru.
19. Deer and Fish: The gentle deer is
drawn towards the lilting notes of the
flute and thus gets caught and seeing
the fish get caught due to their
attraction towards food used as bait.
Seeing this I thought that there is
much harm if you get attracted by
your senses.
20. Pingala Dancer: When Pingla Dancer was young at that
time it had many Customers. But When Pingla Dancer
Became old its body became diseased and she became
poor. Hearing the taunts of this world and also seeing the
effect of bad Karma that it had done in the other world it
started to remain sad. Seeing the state of that sad lady
the mind thought that is better to spend the time left
with us in doing some good deeds rather than repent at
some later stage. That sad lady, which made its own life
and the life of other people miserable, broke the ideal of
a householder and Married life felt remorse for all this.
Seeing the remorse of this Pingla Dancer the other people
get warned and I decided to accept this Pingla Dancer as
my Revered Guru.
21. Crow: The Crow does not have faith in
anyone and since he adopts the policy
of selfishness he is always the loser. All
creature despise him, Seeing this I
have understood that the policy of
selfishness can be extremely harmful.
Since the crow made me learn all this I
have accepted the Crow as my
Revered
22. Child: We should be childlike at heart.
Children do not nurse grievance,
anger, jealousy, hatred and are free of
ego and arrogance. Seeing these
qualities of child I decided to accept
the Child as My Guru.
23. Women: The woman was wearing set of
bangles when it was grinding the wheat
flour and there was noise when bangles
struck each other. Hearing the noise the
Woman removed all but one bangle and as
a result there was no noise. By observing
this scene I understood that if a parson has
many desires in the mind, a struggle goes
on the mind but if a parson has only one
aim then the mind does not struggles but
became silent. I decided to make that
woman as my Revered Guru.
24. Blacksmith: The Blacksmith puts the
small pieces of Iron in the Furnace and
with the help of the chisel it makes
fine instruments out of it. In the same
way a person who appears to be hard
and useless if he adopts strong
penance can transform himself into a
useful person. Seeing action of the
Blacksmith and learning thereof from
the results thereof I decided to accept
the Blacksmith as my Revered Guru.
25. Snake: The snake torments others and
is torments by others. Seeing this we
learn anger, hatred, jealousy is no
beneficial to anyone. Seeing this
quality of snake also as My Guru.
26. Spider: The spider started weaving its
own web and forms its own house and
when it wants to withdraw its own
web in its stomach and again starts
spinning a new one. In the same way a
person can also create his own new
world and can also replace this world
by another world as and when he
wants.
27. Insect: The insect brings another
insect and by its influence makes it
like its own. In the same way a person
also by his single minded devotion can
attain bodily and mental oneness. In
this way the Insect I have accepted as
my Guru.
28. The Real guru lies not in any Individual but in the
quality of the Individual. The Learned persons try
to learn from the common experiences and the
Observations of the common people. Thus their
Consciences goes on increasing and this
conscience is the main reason of their attaining a
Siddhi. The persons who are without conscience
are not able to learn like Brahma Even from a
True and learned Guru. The person can achieve
Spiritual Maturity only with the help of his soul.
When one makes a revered Guru, the aim of Life
is to achieve the Divine Light. Thus action is not
possible without having clear cut after that
everything else becomes our aid in attaining the
Divine Knowledge.
