Guruma Makarsankranti 2017 Highlights
1. Guruma Makar Sankranti Highlights 2017
Note: The following story was told in the context that in the state of Gujarat, on Makar Sankranti,
people fly kites in a big way.
1. Raju and Hemu were 6 and 8 years old respectively. Once while trying to catch a challenging
kite, Hemu fell into a well. Raju rescued Hemu by lowering down a bucket tied with a rope for
him to go in and pulled him up. Many of the villagers were stunned as to how Raju did
something needing so much strength. No one believed he could do this. An elder man referred
to as Dadaji pointed out why would Raju lie as he had no reason to. He was able to do so
because nobody to tell him he was weak and couldn't do it. Raju rescued Hemu because he
never thought he couldn't.
2. Like Hemu and Raju, we can do anything even that which we don't think we can do because
we're told otherwise from our childhood by society. The day we become governed by the soul,
we gain the capability to accomplish much. Don't estimate what you can or can't do. Why not
become like Raju on Makar Sankranti? It's not about rescuing someone. Rather, it's about us
reaching the depths of the wells of our inner selves. We are playing roles in this world but must
return to the original source in order to become immersed with it.Let us not forget that goal
instead of being caught up in our roles.
3. What the body believes is what we believe to be our threshold. We do things with the body
because we believe it so. Therefore we add to our ledger of karma (deeds in this case).
Breathing in and out is what's happending through our senses or the body and not by the
soul. What's the relation of the soul with the body? The body is perishable. Why are you
taking credit for it? Take neither credit nor guilt. (These are qualities associated with the
body rather than the soul).
4. Do what's in front of you. Handling responsibilities and relations with others is done via
the body. But enhance the soul. We get this opportunity through meditation because then
we are in touch with our soulfulness.
5. When meditation happens to you, we assume the essence of a soul. When it doesn't, the
opposite is true. As we progress in our meditative journey, we become like Raju who doesn't
think of his limitations. We don't get affected by sadness or vices around us. We become like
innocent kids. Then we can attain bliss.
6. When the rainy season happens, kids go without their umbrellas and enjoy themselves in the
open. Everyone else goes under a tree or store shade. In such set ups, we put our hands on our
heads or wrap clothes around a watch or mobile so they don't get ruined. Someone might be
wiping their glasses or drying a rupee note while love birds enjoy themselves. While someone's
talking on the mobile about the rain, a kid may nag their father because they would love to get
wet in the rain. They'll take their palms out into the rain and splash themselves. The kids make
the most of this rain.
7. In the same way, we are constantly surrounded by the downpour of the rain of vibrations in our
ashrams and centres. We don't tend to consider the centres to be as much like the ashrams but
during regulated times or for weekly meditation times, the guru energies pour down immensely.
2. But are we like that little kid when we're in the ashram? People largely switch their mobiles off
though some may keep it on the side. Are we busy talking to one another? Will we gain the
energy? Or will we lose it by being lost in our problems in spite of being in the ashram? Or may
we be immersed like love birds? There are some that share their divine experiences like the kid
playing in the rain.
8. For 23 1/2 hours be in meditation or mindful and for half an hour, meditate. Are you
stressed about something like getting things ready because a guest is coming over? Think
about the kid who may play choo-choo trains or climb a tree when the same thing may be
ready to happen while the grown ups stress out. The child doesn't perceive stress or
inconvenience.
9. This kid is in you. Awaken this kid. Take in as much bliss as you can. When the lights are dim,
we don't see the bliss.
10. Samarpan meditation begins with letting go. Why do you have no faith or think all is for the
best or that the guru energies look after us? When we go forward with faith, nothing can go
wrong. Sometimes, the guru energies create wayward situations to help you tread the right path.
The famous poet Narsinh Mehta asked Lord Krishna to always give him grief so that he may
always remember him and would therefore be near him. I don't say to ask for constant grief but
do live as a 2 and a half year old kid.
11. Nowadays 5-7 year old kids can lecture well and is very unlike our times. At that young age,
they ar also getting tensions. They have notions about things. So be careful what you say or do.
Kids got affected by this and their perspective is shaped by this. Don't let them talk like grown
ups. We would be chastised by our mom when doing so and we're told instead to go and play
and not listen in on what grown ups were saying.
12. Why are you making them old so soon? My sister is 12 years younger than me and I didn't
know my mom was pregnant with her. My older sister told me she was. And my mom told her
that she was so that she would learn how to make tea to serve everyone. This older sister
whispered about the new baby in my ear. Today's 5-7 year old kids know when someone's going
to have a baby and so much more. Some may even say “Oh you know, she's pregnant.” But I
had this level of innocence and that's perhaps why I could get a space in Swamiji's life.
Somewhere down the line, we all have it and that's why we're connected to him. Maintain this.
Try to reach out to your soul so that you will always remain in good temperament.
13. There once was an office meeting where there was lunchtime somewhere. It was a program
where anyone could come. Now one person instructed everyone to hold a balloon in their left
hand while a toothpick would be held in the right hand. He then asked everyone to pass the last
balloon to him. Everyone poked their balloons out and then passed on the last one. Now this
person never said anything about bursting balloons so why did everyone do so?
14. Samarpan meditation is not for progressing alone. There is a great importance for collectivity.
In the ashram landscape, we are at the edge of the ocean and the wind is always blowing. Many
plants and trees aren't able to grow though many are planted. The leaves blow. Few of the plants
and trees have bloomed near the buildings because they prevent the wind from blowing the
leaves away so much. As well, when a group of trees are lined up together, they act as air-
breakers for one another. In the same way, collectivity prevents bad energy from filtering in.
3. Never lose the collectivity. It's like a cleanliness drive for our inner selves.
15. Introspect as to whether you bear ill will or not. Will you bear ill will if you know you will die
tomorrow? If you're dying, what difference would it make if the world is drowned? When your
sense of bodliness dies, your soul awakens. And that's when the dirt gets released. Whatever
bad was done or said was directed to the body. If someone says something unflattering to you,
laugh out loud. Pretend the other party is joking when they say it to you because you consider
them to be dumb. Fights will not happen this way. I feel that women especially confront such
situations more. So when it does happen to you, laugh at the small things. You'll be light then.
Laugh and spread happiness.
16. Meditate without expectations. It's like we budget our happiness. Make a rule for spreading
happiness too. When we would get pocket money, sometimes we saved and sometimes we spent
money. Making others happy should be second nature to us and not as though it's an attempt.
We realize what we get when we give happiness.
17. Once, I was taking a taxi in a town where I'd not been for 30 years and the destination was 40
minutes away. The taxi driver kept asking me how to go to where I needed to. I wondered why
he was doing so in an age where one could even google search it. It turned out that the taxi
driver was a 2nd
year pharmacy student from an ordinary family and he was driving the taxi to
support his studies. He mentioned how if he topped the class, he could eventually get a good
job as a drug inspector. I asked him how his studies were and he said they were well and he had
been at the top of his class in the last year. I asked how long he worked and studied. He
mentioned that he drove for 8 hours and went to schoold between 8 a.m. To 4 p.m.
18. The day I was in the car was a holiday so he was studying inbetween taxi breaks. Now inspite
of such a demanding schedule, this kid topped his class. Whilst we pay for our kids tuitions and
they get extra time. I was impressed by this and gave him 2001 rupees for such industriousness.
The young taxi driver began to cry because he was lacking 2000 rupees for his tuition and here
it was. I responded by saying good and by extending wishes that he maintain being a topper
and he said okay. I also said to him to always be honest no matter what you do in life. As he
wiped his tears, he asked if I was a teacher and I said yes. So honest India, honest world.
19. When you listen to your inner voice, you can do what you need to easily. Hence, I was a
medium for this boy. So do one to two things to make someone happy. Maybe your family
members need help with something. Surprise them. Help a neighbr or help young girls by
giving them a space on the bus. Give hope to those going through a rough time. Say something
nice to such a person.
20. 2017 is the Year of the Farmer. What can we do for farmers? Can we inspire farmers and other
people to meditate collectively or alone on the fields? Can we do it ourselves? There are quite a
few people who had some very nice experiences to share. Even those who gave permission to
use their farmland got it.
21. This is an unusual story of one of the Samarpan followers. He would meditate on the fields for
6-8 months. Now while the meditative energies made an impact on the fields, he also grew hair
on his head though he was bald. So just keep meditating. Don't keep expectations. What's meant
4. to happen naturally, will.
22. Our hearts doors open when we believe our crown centre to be activated. We then grasp the
vibrations that flow and faults go away. We become pure energy emanating from within
ourselves as though we are innocent birds. The guru energies work through us. Our journeys
have begun. In moments, we experience vibrations and go from body to soul. As the bodily
identification goes down, soulfulness goes up. And as soulfulness does so, we increase the
possibility of our inner child who is always grasping for the rain.
23. For at this point, your soul steadies itself and merges with the guru energies. They are always
with us (it's our awareness of it that changes). At this point, there is no feeling of being a body
nor is there an expectation. May your soul always be merged with the guru energies. Jai Baba
Swami.
