2. WHAT ARE SUBTITLES?
Subtitles are derived from either a transcript or screenplay of the
dialog or commentary in films, television programs, video
games, and the like, usually displayed at the bottom of the
screen. They can either be a form of written translation of a
dialog in a foreign language, or a written rendering of the
dialog in the same language.
Subtitles are also used for description of the audio content for
the deaf and the hard of hearing, beyond the dialogues, e.g.
the background noises, musical content, etc.
5. CONVENTIONS
35 characters in one line,
a line is normally 1/12 of the screen height,
maximum of two lines at a time
minimum display time: 1.5 seconds,
maximum display time: 3.5 s. (one line), 6 s. (two lines),
minimum of 0.1 s. between consecutive subtitles.
